Hey! I dont live in Philly, but I live just north of the city, and work in Chester County. Doesn't look like many ladies are from our area.

justcbk - I'm honored - I think this is more posts than I ever had on the other site - and certainly the first time someone can recognize me, woohoo :)

I "know" a fre other Philly attorney's on other sites (the Nest ebing one of them)

I think you said you're clerking right? Are you downtown?

Welcome Sha :) I live just West of the City now - was in the city till 6 months ago - and I still work in the city. Unfortunately, I don't leave my office as often as I should ....

Justcbk - Where are you located? (if you're comfortable)

Sha told me that I should stop in!!! Hello, ladies. I could never get ANYONE to talk on the PA/Philly threads in the other site!

I live in Coatesville, and work in Kennett Square. Both are 20 min from MD border, 5-15 min from DE border, and 45 min from Philly (Depending on the day and traffic). As a matter of fact, I was just in Philly on Saturday for my bachelorette party. We went on the Spirit of Philadelphia.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome Rippy and jbenny! I also went over to the Philly thread on That other site, and found it a bore. I am hoping apon hope that we can keep it rolling over here.

I live in Willow Grove (montogomery co), but I work in Malvern (chester co).

Can I join? I live in Harrisburg now--about two hours from Philly area--but I grew up in Huntingdon Valley (northeast suburbs) and my parents and sister and her family now all live near the Montgomeryville Mall so I'm in the area about once a month... I don't think there's any other H'burg women around, so maybe I can stop by here once in a while...? :)

robyn,

we are getta the hell out of town! the madness that will ensue is something i don't want to be a part of, at all. and, luckily, we live within the area of expanded-center-city that is being closed to outside traffic on saturday, so i don't think i need to worry about what *might* happen to our new lovely home while we're away.

Sha259
06-30-2005, 07:59 AM
Welcome tenofcups! You are most certainly welcome to join us in here, the more the merrier. I went to school close to Harrisburg, and my gym is in Huntingdon Valley.

On another topic, I am very not looking forward to the chaos of the Live8 concert. Everyone asks if I plan to go, but I don't think many people are willing to deal with the crowd that is bound to happen. In stead my Gpop is having a family cookout in Delaware, and we all plan to go visit him. :)

Hi ladies! I live in Delaware. We are about 10 minutes from the PA line and about 45 min away from Philly!

I can't imagine what it's going to be like this weekend in the city!

06-30-2005, 08:27 AM
Hi Dana! Nice to meet you. Where is DE are you?, my Gpop also live right across the border.

Man, I know there are alot of ladies on here in our area. Whether it be in Philly & Burbs, South Jersey, or northern DE. But we are all scattered. :(

06-30-2005, 08:31 AM
I've been living in Philly for the past month for work (helping our Philly office with a situation they have). Does that count?? I'll be there through the end of July.

I've been staying in Center City :)

dlj78
06-30-2005, 08:33 AM
Hi Sha259!
I live in Pike Creek, although it's considered Wilmington (as is most of New Castle County ;) )

It does seem like we are scattered.

RobynScott
06-30-2005, 08:35 AM
aligirl - I think that counts - what do you do and where are you staying?

Dana - we got married in Delaware - at the Hotel duPont :) - we are actually headed to Wilmington tonight to finally do our wedding album - 10 months later!

Re Live 8 - I think I'm one of the few people who would like to see it - but really - I don't want to deal with the crowds. If we still lived there I would just walk over - that's what we did July 4 for the previous two years.

Our friends bought tickets to a bar in Fairmount so that they have a place to use the bathroom during the concert, *lol*

I know it will be crazy but I still think it would be great to see all of those performers - oh well - I'm sure I'll stay away from the madness.

aligirl
06-30-2005, 08:38 AM
RobynScott: This week I'm home in St Louis but next week and probably through the end of July I'll be staying at the Sofitel. Should be nice - good location. I work in finance / project management. Interesting, but not so exciting.

I'd love to see Live 8 - I have cousins who will be there... but I'd rather be home with my family then in Philly for the holiday weekend!

Sha259
06-30-2005, 08:40 AM
Robyn, don't get me wrong, if such a huge crowd wasnt forcasted, I think I may have tried to check it out, but I am not up for dealing with all those people.

And this:
Our friends bought tickets to a bar in Fairmount so that they have a place to use the bathroom during the concert, *lol*

Had me cracking up, very smart! :D

Hi Robyn!!!! Our company just recently had a luncheon at Hotel DuPont. It's beautiful. Who did your pictures?
I feel the same way about the Live8 concert. I would love to see it but there is no way that I could deal with the crowd. We could go stay at my SIL's place(she goes to Drexel) but it would be crazy getting in and out of the city!

Hi DLJ - Dana is my middle name :) I liked it so much, I refused to give it up when I changed my last name, so I have two middle initials now (Robyn middle maiden last)

Pictures - photographer was Laura Novak. We've had them since September, we just never narrowed down what we wanted and got in to choose our album - doh! :o The pictures themselves are AMAZING however - we were really thrilled with the job she did. I'll have to figure out how to post some someday ..

dlj78
06-30-2005, 10:27 AM
Robyn, I used to hate my name when I was younger because I knew it could be a boy's name too :o I like it now though. I went to HS with a girl who spelled it Dayna.

I heard that Laura does a fabulous job! We went with the dreaded Clair Pruett and although I am happy with my pictures, their customer service is the worst! My mom freaked out on them about a month ago, it's a long story ;)

06-30-2005, 10:38 AM
Dana ... I work about 7 minutes from Pike Creek ... in Kennett Square, PA. KS is actually where my wedding will be in 3-1/2 weeks, also. How are ya?! :) Wow, we almost went with Clair Pruett. I'm glad that my instincts were right about them. We actually decided to go with someone from the Main Line ... Annie Hosfeld. I'm excited about using her. There was just something about Clair Pruett that turned me off. We go bowling in Pike Creek all of the time!

Rippy~My FIL lives in Kennett! We are always going up to Giordano's for dinner! Have you been there?
I'm so glad to hear that you didn't go with CP. I have been married for almost a year and they still haven't gotten me my album! I got it once but there were a couple of pictures that were messed up so they had to take it and re-do those. I still can't believe that they gave me my album like that. And there was more too, I'm getting all worked up now, lol.
I live about 2 minutes from the bowling alley in Pike Creek! We always get shakes from Charcoal Pit ;)

Are you all ready for the wedding! How exciting! I wish I could do it again only because it goes by so fast!

Rippy1010
06-30-2005, 11:43 AM
Mmmmm. I love Giordano's. I love their Quattro Formaggi pizza, and also their Cajun Grilled Chicken Salad. We were going to have our RD there, because a lot of our dating in the beginning centered around Kennett and mostly Giordano's. But, decided just having a backyard RD. I am mostly ready, but my nerves have been getting a lot worse this week.

This is going to sound funny, but all of the times that I have been to Pike Creek bowling, I have never eaten at the Charcoal Pit. Do you recommend it?

Our wedding is at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett. :)

Rippy~We go there all the time! We had our RD at my FIL house. We had a pig roast! It was so much fun!
I'm sure that everything will go smoothly for you. ;)
I really like Charcoal Pit. They have some good food although they are getting a little pricey for what it is. My DH loves their shakes though.
I know where Anson B Nixon is.

Sweetpea ~ I did grow up in Coatesville, but not directly in the "city of". I lived for 28 years directly outside of Coatesville ... went to Unionville High School. However, my FH did grow up directly in the "city of coatesville". He went to Coatesville for 11-1/2 of his 12 years of school. But halfway through his senior year his parents sent him to Lanchester Christian School because he was getting into too much trouble. Did your BF go to Coatesville?

You know anybody in that class? Pretty Filipina girl names Johanna?

Hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying the shortened work week

I've been a member of a few sites (under the name Megali) and never met so many people from the same area as me.

I currently work in Newark but am looking for another job.

WOW! I haven't been getting notifications so I've been missing all of the action in here!!!! Look at all of the shoutouts I have. HAHAHA!

lmb ~ I used to live WAAAY outside of the city limits in Newlin Twp., which is closer to Embreeville (Marty's Bar, and all that). But, when FH and I moved in together in December we moved directly outside of the city limits in Caln Twp. Near Jack's Pizza and Rita's and DQ and the Wawa.

Avalon ~ I dated a few guys from Henderson ... maybe one of them is your DH. JUST KIDDING!!! What year did you guys graduate from Henderson? I used to hang out with the West Chester crowds a TON more than the Unionville crowds ... more my speed ... I was in all of the WC firefigher circles. LOL. I work in Kennett ... near the medical center on McFarlan Road.

Ok ladies, just got back from dinner in Philly and had to share this quick story.
We were driving towards the Art Museum and saw some people standing in the fountain. We got closer and realized that there was some guy in the fountain, he was washing himself and everything. And as we got even closer(the light right next to the fountain) we saw that he was completely naked and he was butt-flossing with something  (butt-flossing is when you take a towel or something and go back and forth in between your legs, lol). Anyhoo, we saw a FULL moon and everything, it was rather funny :p

Oh yes. Heard that one too many times.

But you know what another kicker was (and don't knock me too bad becuase I'm originally from NJ too!!) was the kids at UD that got huffy about the different pronunciations for Newark and New-ark. :) Hubby is one of them.

avalon-That's ok. I lived on Eastern Shore MD, and most people were like, "MD consists of more than Baltimore and surrounding areas? I thought that was part of DE?"

udsweetpea

I was also one that got huffy about the pronunciations about Newark and New-ark ;)

I love hearing funny stories about people not knowing Delaware's a state. When I would give my address to someone and say "DE", they would think its Detroit (kicker is... Detroit isn't a state!!!).

And now that I live in Florida and tell someone I'm from Delaware, they ALWAYS say either "oh, so you lived in Dover?" or "ahhh... Blue Hens." So all they know is the capital and the university mascot. It's so cute :)

I live in Wilmington, Delaware (Brandywine Hundred-north Wilmington) (originally DH and I are from the Lehigh Valley in PA) and we really enjoy living here!
Nice to see so many local faces!
When I was working (just resigned on July 8th so I could be a SAHM), I worked in Strafford, PA (on the Main Line) for over 4 years. I HATED my commute, but I digress.

Hi everyone!

Hi Jill, Welcome, and congrats on getting to stay home with your little one when they arrive (your due date is so soon  ) I currently work on the Main Line, in Malvern, not exactly sure how close Strafford is to there. How far is Wilmington from the PA border? I have family in DE, and have had thoughts of moving there myself, but for the fact that I don't think I could ever get a job in my field there.

Hi Shamena and thanks for the welcome!
Thanks for the congrats and I hope the baby arrives soon or on time. I'm just tired. :)
I believe I know where Malvern is. Strafford is very close to Paoli and Wayne (if you know where those two places are. I used to work right off of Route 30 at a children's clothing company till I resigned.
What field are you in?
Wilmington is SO close to the PA border. The exit that I used to get off to get home from work is Rt. 495, Nammans road. It's right off of 95 (actually forks to the right) and it's the first exit in PA. Wilmington starts pretty much right after Chester, Chichester, etc off of 95. At least the area of Wilmington that I live.
We really enjoy Delaware and you can't beat the tax free shopping! Plus, our property taxes are very very low!!

Sha259
07-25-2005, 09:07 AM
Jill, you make DE sound better and better! I have heard of both Paoli and Wayne, both are fairly close to Malvern. I am in Biopharm., but you may know that the Main Line is populated with them. Even though DH and I just bought our TH in PA, we still plan to move to a bigger house when we TTC, DE is a definate choice.

I actually no longer live in PA - but I jumped on the boards and was surprised to read so much about Coatesville. I grew up in Downingtown/West Chester area and graduated from Downingtown High School in 1992. Coatesville was our big football rival. LOL. I took dance lessons at Harrison's dance studio for about 15 years which was in West Chester so knew a bunch of ladies from Henderson and East. Crazy times! Went back to visit Philly last fall and gorged myself on herrs potato chips and pretzals. And lived at the WaWa! (we just don't get that stuff in Boston.) :-)

I've been to Longwood Gardens several times. It's only 3 minutes from where I work. We had some of our formal wedding portrait shots done there, too.

It's very beautiful. Right now they are doing some construction on the main entrance to the parking lot. Otherwise, everything is beautiful as usual. They are having fireworks in September sometime. Not sure when your birthday is, though.

Hi. I am joining too. I live in NJ but right on the Delaware near New Hope PA. I am getting married next June in Philadelphia. I actually spend a lot of time around Philadelphia since my fiance lives in Montgomery County and works in Northeast Philly.

If anyone wants to provide me with info on good wedding vendors in Philly, it would be much appreciated. So far we have only booked the reception site, the photographer, and hopefully by next week, the caterer. :D

anydaynow I live in NE Philly. I got married in Bucks county.
High tech hair salon and spa is great for makeup and updo's. I always go to them and they did me and my bridal party for my wedding day.

I used East Coast event group for my invites, pix, and videographer. They were awesome. They now have limo's and whatnot.

WHere are you getting married?

anydaynow61...I highly recommend Donna Adrienne Designs in Newtown for flowers, East Coast DJ's in Philadelphia for music, and Annie B's in Newtown for your cake (if not included in your reception site/caterer). I would have also highly recommended my reception site/caterer and photographer if you didn't already have them. :D

I would also recommend East coast dj's. They did our wedding and people are still commenting on how fabulous and fun our wedding was....and it was 4 years ago!!!
Ann's Cake Pan is also another awesome cake specialist. They did ours. They are expensive though. THeir located in Horsham but will deliver pretty much anywhere.
Schmidt's Florist in the Fox Chase are of Philly did our wedding flowers. Amazing work and they weren't expensive at all. I had roses, stargazer lillies and gardenias for me, 10 bm's and corsages for parent, grandparents, the church decorated etc and it cost less than $1700.

Did any of you watch Action News yesterday morning. They were doing a story about a man that started manufacturing designer purses, and they are sold at a select few stores and they are basically flying off the shelves? His name, I believe, is Thomas something?

I'm just trying to find the info right now, and I can't find it. I hope one of you lovely gals saw the clip.

Hi ladies. Hopefully you Philly ladies can help me out.

DH is traveling to Philly for business but will also needs to go into NYC. Is there a high speed train that goes from Philly to NYC. He belives he'll be in the downtown area. Do you know where he can catch the train and about how long does it take?

Thanks so much.

Jen1098 There are Amtrak trains that go several times a day from Phila to NYC. They leave from 30th St Station in Phila and go to Penn Station in NYC.
I'm sure on www.amtrak.com they can give you more specific times and details.

Rippy1010
09-20-2005, 10:41 AM
When we went to NYC about a year ago, there was no "high speed" rail to take. Basically because they are so close, I'm guessing. We also used amtrak.com for all of our info. They also give you estimated travel times, I remember.

Dotsie

I'm going to NYC from Philly next week. I'm using Amtrak. On a normal Amtrak train it costs about $106 round trip and it takes about 75 minutes. Your DH could also take the Acela Express train. I think that knocks about 20 minutes off the ride. I'm not sure about the price though.

Even though I live in Mont county, I know of a few really cool places to eat in Malvern, Exton, and in King of Prussia. I would love to go to the CheeseCake Factory again. But so far, not many people have responded. :( I know there are enough of us out there. If this did end up happening, I would love to do it soon, like by mid November, because it will get hard to get everyone together once it starts getting really cold and snowy. A weekend might be best, because it would be hard to get everyone together during a work lunch hour. So, I think I will make a poll and put it up later today. :D

Just popping in to introduce myself!

DH and I are Philly transplants. DH moved here straight out of college about 4 years ago, and I joined him after a stint for work in Ohio about 2 years ago. I'm originally from northern NJ and DH from Rochester, NY. We bought our home in Springfield (Delaware County) last December and I work in Wilmington, DE. We really like the area and will probably be here for a few more years :)

So nice to see some local girls on the boards!

RobynScott - I've never been over to the Nest. I know alot of other sites tend to do GTGs in Center City. We will probably have to shy away from that because we all live in the burbs, unless everyone was willing to go to CC.

Rippy1010 - Yeah, the one in the Court at KOP Mall. It's funny. I had never been there before I started working in Chester County. But I have now been there twice and I love it. Plus it doesn't hurt to be near one of the largest malls in the state, if not the country. :p

JFlo - Welcome to the boards.:D I am glad you and DH like Del. Co. To tell the truth I don't even think I have been in Del. Co., except to drive through. We are trying to do a GTG here, maybe you would like to join?

Beth - wow an hour to KOP from where you live? You must be in Upper Bucks huh? I know if I were driving from Doylestown, it would probably take an hour to get to KOP, and that's with taking the Turnpike. Lucky me, I am in Willow Grove, so it takes me 30 mins to get to Doylestown, 10 mins to Warrington/Warminster, and 25 mins to KOP.

Cohl - Welcome to the Philly boards, I know you have been around the CC boards for a while. :p So, how do you like working in CC? I know I lived in the city all my life, so I sort of miss it. But it is sooo congested in CC most of the time that I am relieved when I get to leave.
________________________________________

Okay, maybe we should get a consensus of where we each live and the time we are willing to travel for a GTG. I will start:

I am in Willow Grove, which is NW Montgomery County. I am willing to travel 45 mins to a GTG. :)

Hi all. I live in Harrisburg but have family in the Philly area and will be visiting there Thursday through Sunday for Yom Kippur and then some shopping. I'm hoping FH and I can get to a paper store to look at envelopments and various papers to go with them for our upcoming DIY wedding invites and annoucements. Harrisburg doesn't seem to have any place that sells them and I'd rather look at something in person than buy on line if I can.

I seem to remember that there might be a good paper store in center city and perhaps one in King of Prussia too, but I can't remember the names! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Coatesville ladies Can anyone of you help me out and tell me what are the names of the towns around the Coatesville/West Chester area? I'm looking to move there, but it seems West Chester is too pricey. Do you think I'd have better luck in other areas? I'm looking for a one-bedroom in the $550-700 range. Or if any of you know of anyone renting out a house, please let me know. Thanks in advance!!!

You will only find a few. This area is VERY expensive. For a 1-BR, your range should be about 650-800, I would think. You may have better luck searching for Downingtown and/or Kennett Square. Downingtown is kind of in the middle of WC/Coatesville. Kennett Square is south of both Coatesville and West Chester. The only other areas that I could tell you would be more expensive or equivalent to West Chester unfortunately. When we were searching, we found a 3-4 reasonable complexes in Downingtown, so try that first. We almost went with one in Downingtown, but ended up with a complex just outside of Coatesville. You won't have much luck with renting a house in anywhere near that price range. Houses get rented for $1200-2500 (or more) depending on location.

Sha259,

Sorry it took me so long to respond, work has been crazy. I love the city!! I don't drive in though, I take the Patco over so I don't have to deal with the congestion. (Thank God, especially now!) ah, chambersburg. I attended Wilson College. I lived most of my life in the burbs of Philly and spending 2 1/2 years in Chambersburg was a big culture shock. It's a small town and there's not a lot to do-my work study boss who is my dear friend, admits that there is not a lot to do. I'm not sure what else I can tell you? I'll do my best if you have any specific questions!

Thanks Lorbo-

Yeah - someone who has heard of the place. I was wondering where people go to shop, eat etc. Where is nice to live - rent and/or buy. Is it easy to get around there etc. What kinds of bars are there - local, college, happy hour. Basic things you would do everyday. Blockbuster? Gym? Those types of things.

I am also wondering how I will fit in there. The stats I read on the area is that it is 95.3% white. I am multicultural and coming from an area like NYC I am wondering how my transition would be. Surely, I don't want to be made to feel like an outcast. I feel I can fit in any place as long as the people are open to it.

Thank you so much for any insight you can give me.

i haven't been back in a few years-should probably work on visiting my school bud! my friend concedes that it's a hick town and she's lived there all of her life-she's joked about men dressing up in flannel and going to the bars. i don't know much about the nightlife-i'm positive that it's quite limited-the "townies" looked down at the students of Wilson, so we were supposed to avoid them. i worked in a sporting goods store parttime to help with school expenses. shopping-very limited-there's chambersburg mall with a value city, bon ton and sears, i believe. there are a few other shops but it's a tiny tiny mall, compared to what i was used to...then there's walmart, the sporting goods store now has a bunch of new stores in the same strip. a little further away is a giant(that's where i fell in love with the supermarket and i still trek to giants that are not as close as other supermarkets). and there's a kmart. most people will go to maryland for major shopping-i never did, because i could do that on my breaks and trips home.

coming from NYC, i think you'll be in for a major culture shock. some of the areas in town are a bit run down-in the heyday of c-burg, i'm sure it was quite a bustling town, but it's not now. the area around the college is breathtaking, very small townish, very well kept and quite a bit different from other parts of c-burg. my friend is quite happy there, but she'll admit that she's a small town girl-i always thought i was, until i went there!!!! does that help???

kimbyj
11-17-2005, 09:59 PM
Students of Wilson - what kind of students go there? It can't only be local kids so I guess that provides some diversity huh? I am way beyond college but hopefully the faculty presence would be helpful.

So Baltimore is 2 hours away? DC is 2.5 hours away? What big city is close? Can you tell me of any areas to live in or avoid? Maybe your friend would know too? I guess I am just trying to get a sense of whether every one in the town will know when I move there or if it is a bit larger than that. Where can I live without getting mugged? Does that even occur there. Is it worth it to buy a house and sell after a year or do I just rent? Those types of things.

Sorry to bug ya!

As an example, growing up, I remember taking the train into the city with my parents and brothers and sister. The highlight of out trip was seeing the light show and riding the monorail at the old Wannamaker's. Now, we try to make a habit of seeing the lights at Longwood Gardens.

Hahaha, I completely forgot to check up on this thread! :o How is everyone doing?

Andrea - Welcome back to the North Eastern US! Hope you are all settled in Exton. I swear it is one of my favorite places. You can always find great places to eat. :p I was just down at the Exton Mall on Friday. I had Chic-Fil-A, I LOVE Chic-Fil-A!!:D

Yes, we must, must schedule a GTG. So are we doing Cheesecake Factory at KOP? We could also do Maggiano's. Saturday or Sunday works fine for me. We could meet about 1pm. I am free every Sunday after 1pm. At least I am currently, so let's schedule quickly ladies!

I'm free every other Saturday due to a class and most Sunday's. The Saturday's that are out for in March are the 11th and 25th.

ME!! I am so tired of the rain it's killing me. We had our DS's 3rd bday party on Sunday... out in the rain:rolleyes: I actually saw sunshine today.. and blue sky. I thought the sun lost our address.

Rippy1010
06-27-2006, 02:31 PM
YES! This rain is driving me nuts. I know we needed rain ... but did we need it ALL in such a short spurt?! It's so hard to get back and forth to work with all of the roads shut down due to flooding, mudslides, trees down, and rock slides!

Sha259
06-28-2006, 08:16 AM
Well, if you weren't tired of the rain yesterday, I bet you are singing a different tune today. Most of the roads out there are flooded. Makes it really hard to make it in to work.

DelSol
06-28-2006, 09:26 AM

skraus75
06-28-2006, 10:36 AM
Today is so nice!! Okay, not really nice but not raining so far. The rain and humidity was so great last night that I'm happy for a little break. I just hope it dries up somewhat before the weekend. I'd like some quality park time with my dog! :)

Sha259
06-28-2006, 10:40 AM
I think things will dry out for the weekend and that we should have good weather for July 4th.

The roads were crazy this morning. The Eastbound side of the turnpike was completely shut down from KoP to Willow Grove!

Rippy1010
06-28-2006, 10:50 AM
Actually, even though it's not raining, the roads are just going to get worse. Most of the rivers aren't even supposed to crest until tonight or tomorrow morning. I work at a lumber company, and we had to cancel all of our deliveries for the rest of the day because all of the roads in the area are now shut down due to flooding and/or mudslides. (Route 30, Route 100, Route 52, Route 1, Route 82, and more). Sha, the turnpike was shut down all the way out here, too.

So, I'm now sitting at work with the realization that I can't get home.

Sha259
06-28-2006, 11:14 AM
Oh no Rippy! I know it is bad out here in Chester County. That's where I work. And I also know that the only way for most people to even get into work this morning was by the main roads, as all the back roads were flooded. But I did just hear from a co-worker, our resident meteorologist, that the commute home may not be as bad as predicted. But I think that also depends greatly on where you are.

Rippy1010

Any of our Exton/Downingtown/Coatesville/Kennett (or nearby) area girls going to be new moms within the next year or so?

Just trying to get a "new mom support group" type of network together in the area for when my little one arrives. :) Since I haven't been able to find one for myself.

Sha259
07-17-2006, 11:20 AM
Funny that you should ask. I am not personally having a baby anytime soon, but I work with plenty of people who live in the Exton/Downingtown/ Coatesville/Kennett (or nearby) area who either have infants or babies on the way. Two women I am close with here are due this fall. One in Oct and one with twin boys in Nov.

The one who is having twins is the type who would love to have a play group for her boys and is in the Kennett Square area. Let me know if you would like me to put the feelers out for her oppinion.

How is everyone holding up after the storm last night? We didn't have power between 8pm and 1am. I know there are still some places that don't have power. I am at work now and we can't receive incoming calls. There were trees all over the road this morning. Boy, what a mess!

I missed it all, we were on vacation. My mom didn't have power for almost 48 hours. Our neighbor said we lost our power but I think it was for a day, now it has me wondering if my food is the freezer & refrigerator are ok.

Rippy ~ DH & I are going to start trying in August, so if all goes as planned I could be due in May 2007. I'm about 30 - 45 minutes from your area.

Hi ladies,

Not sure if you girls could help me or not, but I was wondering if anyone had an ideas on how the Coatesville area is for living?

Thanks

Dotsie
08-18-2006, 05:36 AM
There has been a lot of negative activity going on in the Coatesville area lately. I haven't been there for a while but it seems like it's always on the news (in a bad way). There was a shooting there last week.

udsweetpea
08-18-2006, 03:42 PM
My BF used to live on the outskirts of Coatesville and loved it. There's a lot of beautiful scenery and very close to major roads, so you're not too far out in the middle of nowhere. However, the actual town of Coatesville wouldn't be where I would want to live. I would recommend Downingtown or Exton if you're looking for other towns to live in near Coatesville.

Sha259
08-18-2006, 04:14 PM
I would also recommend staying toward the surrounding areas of Coatesville, and not living in Coatesville itself. Both Exton and Downingtown are very close and very nice.

Ericka_Jarett
08-19-2006, 07:59 AM
Thanks ladies. I think now hubby wants to stay in NJ just a bit South of where we are. Supposed to go out for a drive today and check out the areas of a few places we saw.

Thanks again.

Rippy1010
08-20-2006, 12:08 PM
It looks like I'm late to the discussion (since we were nursery painting all weekend). But, I actually live in a Coatesville address ... and I agree that you don't want to live "inside" what would be "Coatesville City". However, I have had several Coatesville addresses in my life that were a few minutes outside of the "city" and very beautiful and safe. Where we are right now is a little bit too close, but two minutes down the road (still in Coatesville) is very country/rural setting. Caln Twp., Newlin Twp., East Fallowfield, or South Coatesville are all address/areas of Coatesville that are really nice places to live.

08-20-2006, 08:46 PM
Thanks Rippy for responding. We are still going back and forth about where to move. We never did look at the places in NJ that he wanted to check out, instead we went to PA and checked out some apartments we looked at a few months ago, got the packet and are contemplating moving there now, it's in Horsham, we have friends that live about 5 blocks from these places.

Than we went to check a few places in West Chester, either location is within 20-30 mins to hubby's job, so that's the reason looking in those areas.

If anyone has additionally feedback would appreciate it. I don't really know anything about PA or the towns that are safe or not. Thanks for helping me out ladies.

Rippy1010
08-21-2006, 05:49 AM
I don't know anything about Horsham, but since you have friends that live there I'm sure they are helping you with the info there. I, personally, LOVE West Chester. Most of West Chester is pretty safe ... driving around it would be obvious where you would or wouldn't want to live. But, if we had the budget, we would be living in West Chester. We looked at several apartments in West Chester ourselves.

Sha259
08-21-2006, 06:01 AM
Erika, I currently live about 10 mins from Horsham. It is a really nice area all around and the schools are also pretty good. I have lived in Upper Mont Co/Lower Bucks area for the past 6 years and Hatboro/Horsham/Warrington/Warminster/Ivyland/Southampton are all nice places to live. And there is alot of shopping and such in close proximity too. That's one of the reasons I love it up here. Well that, and the fact that we have one of the only ShopRite Supermarkets here outside of Philadelphia or NJ.:D

Ericka_Jarett
08-21-2006, 09:58 AM
Another ShopRite shopper, how cool. I was telling hubby as we were driving through West Chester and we passed a store, he commented that we would shop at that shopping center, but than he realized it was just an Pharmacy there, so for quick stuff sure, but not groceries. We went down and there was a Clemons market. Said guess I would be stuck shopping there, he did a search with his cell phone and found an Acme, Shoprite and SuperFresh all within 5 mins of where we were. I was a happy girl again, I love ShopRite. We have to see how much it will save us in tolls and such to decide which place would work for us best.

Horsham is closer to NJ so that means closer to my family and my mom, our babysitter. West Chester is about 1 hour from my family and I don't know anyone in the area. Actually was looking at churches last night on-line and saw one I would probably visit in Horsham if we decide to go there.

Thanks again ladies. Input is always appreciated.

Dotsie
08-21-2006, 10:04 AM
The Hatboro/Horsham area is really nice. I have tons of friends that live there and they all seem to love it. I only live about 20 minutes away. The Navy base is closing in the next couple of years so that should affect the community in some negative way, but I don't see it really bringing the area down.
Good Luck!!

Sha259
08-22-2006, 06:04 AM
Ericka - I love ShopRite. It's one of the reasons that we stay in the area. Although we will also be getting a SuperWalmart in the next year or so. So there will soon be even more grocery shopping options.

Dotsie - just a question. How do you figure the closing of the Navy Airbase will hurt the community?

Rippy1010
08-22-2006, 06:35 AM
How do you figure the closing of the Navy Airbase will hurt the community?

I don't live there, so I don't know ... just taking part in the convo. ;) But, I was thinking maybe because it would take a lot of jobs away from the area.

Ericka_Jarett
08-22-2006, 07:58 AM
Sha - thanks for the heads up about the Super Walmart. Hubby and I loved going to the one they had near us in WA State, we would go at 2 am just to get out of the house. :) (Lived with IL's)

We heard about the base closing as well. That is actually one reason hubby would like the area cause most likely the housing prices would drop with so many houses opening up hopefully. We will see.

Dotsie
08-22-2006, 08:01 AM
There's a lot of mom and pop type stores that depend on the military personnel to keep their businesses going i.e. dry cleaners, pizza shops etc. When you lose a couple thousand people from one area it will be detrimental to the local economy. I can guarantee some of these businesses will close up shop or move to a better location.

Sha259
08-23-2006, 11:46 AM
I don't know, The area up there is pretty populated. And I never realized that there were that many military families up here to tell you the truth. We have alot of businesses in the WillowGrove/Fort Washington/Warrington/ Warminster/Hatboro/Horsham area, so there are plenty of customer's to go around.

Also, I will have to be on the lookout in the next few years for a drop in home prices, DH and I will probably be looking to buy around that time too.

08-25-2006, 04:10 PM
Hi again ladies,

Just another question about the area we are possibly looking at. Anyone know how Blue Bell, PA is? High crime or sort of quiet and such. We go out tomorrow to look at 2 places one in Hatboro (unfortunately they rented the 2 bedroom of this duplex out and we are just looking at the 1 since we are in the area) and the other is in Horsham, which we have seen from the outside 2 times now but will actually get to go in this time.

Thanks for all your help, hopefully soon I won't have to ask these questions and bug all of you. :)

DelSol
08-25-2006, 04:21 PM
Ericka ~ I worked in Blue Bell for many years and have friends who live in the Blue Bell area. It's a great town. Let me know what place you were thinking of renting from and I can tell you if I've seen it or passed on my way to work. I would stay out of Norristown.
