DH just got a new job - woohoo! :D - so I am trying to convince him to take a few weeks off between jobs. We are hoping to take a vacation one of those weeks (preferably the week of 7/18) - so I'm wondering what last minute deals you girls recommend?
I was thinking maybe a cruise - but my newlywed body is not in the mood for a warm weather cruise and wearing a bathing suit all the time
Also, he doesn't have a passport and mine is expired - kind of limits us.
I proposed an Alaskan cruise to him (I would love to go) - but I don't think that's gonna fly.
Any ideas / recommendations / raves? All suggestions welcome.
(looking to keep costs reasonable - but willing to up budget a bit for a great trip - like Alaska :p )
TIA for your help!

how far are you willing to travel? i'd say go some place exotic - australia, africa, china, but with only a week that may be too much.
what about peru or argentina?
any part of europe would be wonderful, but maybe to pricey at the last minute and during peak travel season.
canada would be lovely!

Canada's a possibility. Unfortunately, my passport is expired - DH doesn't have one - and of yeah, he hates to fly! :o - he'll do it though.
I suggested a cruise to Alaska but I don't think I will be able to convince him. Now I'm thinking maybe Vegas and rent a car and head down to the Grand Canyon for a night or two - if I can convince him.
Thanks for the thoughts!

From the East Coast you could do a quick trip to either Bermuda or Aruba. There are even cruises to Bermuda out of Boston (I don't know where you are on the east coast). Or the Carribean or Mexico (though not AS close, I don't think). I'm more of a lounge around the pool vacationer, though, so that's what I would choose.
If I were you I would probably hit some discount travel sites (like orbitz/expedia, etc) and see what is available for "last minute deals". You could at least get some ideas and then go from there.

I'm posting here because we're in the same boat, DH has a new job and we'll have time to travel (same time as you!). We'll be leaving from Chicago and we would love to go out of the country...it's just so expensive right now. Any ideas for deals?

DH and I planned a last minute quick vacation to VA. We will be going for 6 days and will be staying in Williamsburg. I was always a history buff and have visited Colonial Williamsburg in the past and enjoy it there. Maybe take a trip that wont involve a plane. But if you do fly, I would def. recommend Bermuda. My best friend lives there, and when I went to visit, the flight only took about 2 hours (flying out of Phila.) Only thing is, this is peak vacation season, and ALL of the hotels may be either fully booked, or way expensive. Whatever you choose, I hope you guys have tons of fun!

i don't know anything about costs, but I'd recommend a weekend in Charleston, SC - it may be a tad hot (but you'll get that almost anywhere on the east coast at the moment) .... I went for my first time over New Years- it's such a charming southren town...and there appeared to be a lot really nice bed and breakfasts along some of the main streets.

DH and I enjoyed Charleston too. It was way too hot when we went there in July, though.
