Maybe I am overreacting, but I "think" my gyn fired me today. I have been patient of his for 3 years. I was diagnosed with endometriosis & had a laparascopy about a year ago. The endo didn't get any better so I've been back to see him about 3 times since the surgery. Today I went in to discuss the fact that the endo is worse & I still haven't gotten pregnant after many years of ttc. Know what he tells me? That I need to find a doctor who fits my personality better and I need to see a reproductive endocrinologist to help me the endo. I am so ticked off about all this. Actually I am more hurt than I am pissed. I am confused about an RE helping with endo and I don't understand why he doesn't want me as a patient anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that. The personality part is just weird, sounds more like he has a problem than anything on your part!

But maybe it's better this way? After a year of TTC, ob/gyns should refer you or at least discuss your option of going to an RE. It sounds like it may be a different thing than it is, but an RE is really just a specialized ob/gyn. It's just a category of ob/gyn. They work with infertility issues, including endo, PCOS, unexplained--pretty much everything. I really, really recommend at least consulting with one. There have been too many people who haven't gone right away and then really regretted it. Since RE's are specialists, they know so much more than regular ob/gyns about all this stuff.

Wow! I honestly believe that was his way of saying, "I don't know how to help you!". No offense to gyn's but once I went to an RE I was SO surprised by how much more they knew!!! It is trickier with endo because endo can cause so many different things. A RE should definitely be able to help you. Some offer free consultations.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies! I feel much better knowing that I am finally heading in the right direction. :)

I think this should have happened a LOT sooner. You should be seeing an RE with recurring endo regardless of if you are trying or not. With offense to the ob/gyn's I saw for several years trying to get a proper diagnosis...they just aren't equiped to treat it properly. I just FINALLY got a very good friend of mine to go to my RE - after she's been messing with ob/gyn's for about 10 years and 3 surgeries. She's doing much better now.

My OB/GYN "fired me" after I had been ttc for about a year unsuccessfully.
He did some basic testing and said, "Yea, I could prescribe clomid and watch
you here, but to be honest, an RE specializes in this and will be able to do
specific tests and find out what will work best to get you PG as quickly as
possible." I was relieved that he said this so early, since I didn't feel like wasting time :)!

Seeing an RE with Endo and TTC for over a year is definitely a good thing. :) I'm sure he meant well, but doctors can be completely socially inept sometimes.

Yeah, I agree he should've sent you to a RE much sooner and much more politely!!!!! The way I'd look at it is that if he's a jerk (even if you didn't know it up til now), best to be rid of him anyway. Sounds like he's the one with the problem; even if you were a difficult patient (and by no means am I saying you are), he should have not only the couth but the know-how to handle that professionally. Be glad you're done with a Dr. who doesn't know how to handle things!

After several mos. of TTC on clomid, my dr. suggested that I see someone else, and even went so far as to say anything more was out of his leauge and he wouldn't be offended if I went elsewhere. I never did go see a RE, and wound up pg. on my own about 4 mos. later.
