Howdy Ags (and curious non-Ags)!!
I'm starting to discover just how many Texas Aggies there are on these boards so going on maggieb's suggestion of a thread, here we are!
If you please, let us know your class, DH's if he went, major, and where you are now.
This is a place where we, as Aggies and Aggie fans, can get together and relive our old days as students in Aggieland. Feel free to post memories, photos, discussions about the Corps, football, the Aggie Band, etc.
I know there are individuals from the school in Austin (and various others) that might feel inclined to come in and harass us. Please refrain from doing so. We'll afford you the same courtesy if you start a Longhorn thread. Thanks!
I'll start:
Me: Tara '99
DH: Ryan '99 (Squadron 17 in the Corps)
My major: History
DH's major: Ag Systems Management

OK, while we're on the topic of food in CS...here are some of my faves:
-Freebird's
-Cafe Excel
-Double Dave's
-Ninfa's
-La Taqueria (closed in 1991)
My freshman and sophomore years I lived in Mosher!! Then my junior year I lived in Rudder and then for half of my senior year back at Mosher. I miss being able to get out of bed and getting to class 10 min later!
Any other fave memories?

Yea!
Me: Jacqueline, Class of '01 - Education
DH: Matt, class of '99 - Architecture
Masters '01 - Construction Management
We live in Dallas
Did yall know that Garcia's closed down? Last time we were down there, we were looking to eat there and sure enough, it is no more :(
Maggie - when you visit your mom in Ft Worth, you might want to take a ride over to Addison or to Greenville in Dallas - those are the two new Dallas Freebirds locations!!
We went to Wings n More for Matt's birthday today, and, Gah!! The hostess girl was wearing a burnt orange Texas shirt! All of the Aggie football pictures in the world won't make that look like College Station! :p
We're thinking about going to the SMU game. Matt's a wee bit reluctant to go, though, because he went to the Baylor game in Waco last year, and...well...we don't discuss that night any longer...

My best memory is of DH proposing on the steps of the Admin building. Followed closely by our first date that ended on those same steps...My goodness. We actually met at the Marble Slab on Texas by Old Navy. Very few places can you wear shorts and meet friends for ice cream in the middle of February :p We try to go to Marble Slab on that day in Feb every year - cheesy, yeah, but that's okay :)

mamah: Thanks! I had no idea there were some Freebird's in the DFW area. My DH will go crazy when he finds out! Too bad we're not traveling anytime soon. I have to say that I didn't know there was an Old Navy and a Marble Slab in CS! I am showing how old I am! The only place to shop for clothes when I was there was the mall. What was the name of that mall???
DH and I also met at A&M. We were in the same chem lab together. One day the TA asked the class who they were going to vote for. This was during the Daddy Bush/Clinton election. Everyone raised their hand for Bush, except for two people...you guessed it...me and DH! We took notice of each other then, but actually met one on one at a friend's apartment for a bbq.
One of my best memories of Aggieland is my Elephant Walk. I got so dirty and nasty. DH's friends found me and pelted me with ketchup and mustard. It is so unlike me to have fun at something like that, but it was a blast. Just to walk around campus and see all of the places that had become so dear to me.

-Cafe Excel
My freshman and sophomore years I lived in Mosher!! Then my junior year I lived in Rudder and then for half of my senior year back at Mosher. I miss being able to get out of bed and getting to class 10 min later!
Any other fave memories?
Is Cafe Excel the one on Church Street by Wellborn? I went on a date there once, I think.
When you were back in Mosher your senior year were you already married? There was a girl living down the hall from me that was married and living there while she finished out school...it'd be neat if it was you. :)
Hmm...favorite memories, first would be Ryan proposing to me under the Century Tree, second would be driving up to College Station from Houston on our first date and walking around campus and third would be getting my Aggie Ring and my ring dunking party that night. I dunked it in a pitcher of milk. :o
Ryan and I didn't meet at A&M. We had many mutual friends, I hung out outside his dorm on the Quad my freshman year, were in a class together (Management 101 with Dr. Ben Welch...anybody have him or know him?? Fabulous guy) but never met. We finally met in 2001 online when I was in North Dakota for grad school. Small world, huh? :D
College Station food:
-Los Cucos (although not anymore...too many health code violations)
-Northgate Freebirds (the one, the only, the original)
-Fitzwilly's (I love the Fitz's Favorite, a greasy cheeseburger, fries and a drink for like $3!)
-The old Wings-N-More on Texas across from campus
-Bernie's Pizza Rolls (a pizza place on campus attached to Sbisa)
We're thinking about going to the SMU game. Matt's a wee bit reluctant to go, though, because he went to the Baylor game in Waco last year, and...well...we don't discuss that night any longer...
Yeah, we were at that game, we call it the "Debacle." My step-dad is a HUGE Baylor fan and has given me sh!t about that game since (regardless of the fact that we've creamed them in everyother game!) We're going to CS for this year's Baylor game. I hope we murder them!

That doesn't happen anymore. They created a Junior E-Walk that keeps the juniors WAY far away from the seniors so they don't have problems with that anymore. The only messy thing that I encountered was the dirty, DIRTY water in Fish Pond...we were at the end of the line.
I love this thread! Thanks for participating! :D

I just found this thread! :) I'm so excited!
Me: Kristin '99, '04
DH: David '03
My major: B.S. Poultry Science, PhD Food Science and Technology
DH's Major: DVM
We're in Fort Worth
Favorite CS Food
-Koppe Bridge Burger and Fries with a cold Shiner draft!
-Blue Baker (which used to be Brazos Blue Ribbon Bakery)
-Freebirds
-Wings-n-More solely for their fried pickles (So happy to find one in Grapevine!)
-Cafe Eccel's Strawberry tarte
-Casa Rodriguez in downtown Bryan
My favorite memories would be going to Aggie games, camping out for t.u. tickets in front of G. Rollie. My favorite game that I went to was one in 1998 when we beat Nebraska, who was trying to go for a national title. I'm still kicking myself for selling my tickets when we beat OU. I love when the Ags pull off an upset. :)
More importantly, DH's and my first date happened at the Olive Garden (which burned down :() followed by 4 hours of talking at Research Park. He proposed at Research Park 14 months later. :)

I was at that Nebraska game! It was awesome, that was also the first Maroon Out. Another couple of great Aggie games were the Big 12 Championship in St. Louis when we beat KSU in overtime for the Championship and the tu game in 99 after Bonfire fell when we beat them (if I recall that was the last time we beat them).

Matt has his white towel from that Nebraska game hanging by his computer at work. His boss hates it b/c bossman used to play football for the school in Lubbock :p But bossman's boss is a diehard Ag, so the towel gets to stay :D
Ooohh, research park...one of our early dates was spent at research park. we just walked and talked, watching ducks and stars forever. that was the night i told matt that i had cervical cancer and was waiting on my latest biopsy results. i had to tell him that if these results came back positive for cancer, it was likely that i would never be able to carry children of my own. and this man of mine just sat right there at the edge of the water and told me that, with or without children, any man who had the honor of marrying me would be the luckiest man in the world. right there in that lovely park, i knew that this was the man i was going to be with forever...
And...how could I forget Sweet Eugene's? Mmm...I'd love to have a homerun coffee shop like that around here. Starbucks just isn't the same.
And before A&M, I though baseball games were boring! Love me some Aggie baseball!

Wow, you have quite a man!
I heard Sweet Eugene's closed. :(
To whomever was talking about Garcia's on Harvey, that is now Fuddrucker's. If you were to go back now you'd never recognize University Dr. between Texas and Highway 6. It's got tons of new restaurants and hotels. College Station is becoming a real town!! I remember when I was there there were hardly any good date restaurants. Now there are tons...strangely there's still a long wait at all of them.

I'm here too!!!
Me: TL, '98
My major: Kinesiology
I'm in Canada
I see that I am the only one of us that didn't marry an Aggie. Heck, I didn't even marry an American! But, he has been converted and wears A&M caps all the time.
Well let's see. I too was a Mosher Mugger my freshman year. I lived in the Grove over off Villa Maria in Bryan close to Bryan HS my sophomore year. Then I lived out the remaining three years in a duplex on Webhollow (across from the Hall of Fame). Tara, you would have been at A&M when we had our infamous block parties. I hear now though that it is really all run down and trashy over there.
maggie- I think it is called Post Oak Mall. It has been a while though so I could be wrong.
tara-I had Dr. Welch as well. I remember he said that he would get to know all of our names. I thought he was crazy b/c the class had 575 students, but he did know them all by the end of the semester. He would still say high to me when I saw him. Super guy!!
Restaurants:
Cafe Excel (loved their brunches)- Yes, Tara it is the one off of Welborn right after you cross University. It is the one with no sign. My brother's (class of '91 and '92) turned me on to that place
Wings 'N More- The original across from campus on TX
Free Birds I remember my freshman year when it nearly closed down and they sold shirts that said "Save the Bird". Now it is huge!!
Koppe Bridge and Chicken Oil Company- great big greasy cheeseburgers and Tiajuna fries...mmmmmm
Double Dave's- Just got a few of these while in TX visiting family in the DFW area
Brazos Blue Ribbon Bakery
Taco Cabana - nothing better than their tortillas and queso after a night out!!
I too was at that Nebraska game, 50 yardline second deck half way up...great seats.
Memories: I have a LOT, but these are off the top of my head
-tu game my sophomore year when we lost at home and they snapped the longest home winning streak in the nation- they rushed the field and there was the huge brawl...On the way down the ramps we all started doing yells so that the tu coach and players couldn't give interviews outside their lockerroom...they were so pissed, the coach started yelling and cussing at everyone, which of course just fueled the fire!
-Bonfire falling my freshman year and rebuilding it in one week
-going to the Colorado game my Jr. year
-going to the BYU game my JR. year
-Bush Library dedication and all the celebrities in town
-working at the student rec center-fun memories
-A&M beating Clemson to go to the College World Series!!!
-Elephant Walk
-my KINES classes- we were a close knit group
-intramurals
-my first Taps and Muster (AMAZING)
-getting my ring
I will be back more frequently! Thanks for starting this thread!! It makes me feel like I am close to home even though I'm not!

Well let's see. I too was a Mosher Mugger my freshman year.
Whoop! I loved living in Mosher! :D

Yup, its Post Oak Mall.

I love Dr. Welch! He was my Succeeding in College prof. He was also the faculty advisor for DHs Corps outfit. He named his son after my DH.
I remember that! I was a fish, sitting on the first deck, right next to the tu student section. My friend and I had 2 corps fish escort us back to Mosher because we were too scared to walk back by ourselves. Ryan told me that he punched a guy in the stomach when they tried to rush the field.
-Bonfire falling my freshman year and rebuilding it in one week
I remember that too, although I was a senior in hs then. My boyfriend at the time was a BQ and got me a t-shirt that said something like Aggies get it up faster twice or something like that.
I will be back more frequently! Thanks for starting this thread!! It makes me feel like I am close to home even though I'm not!
I'm so glad you have a little piece of Aggieland with you in Canada.
BTW, what part of Canada are you in? I've been to Winnipeg a few times when I lived in North Dakota. I really liked it up there, so beautiful!

Howdy! I guess I don't technically belong here because I'm a current Aggie. I'm in my 4th year of a PhD program at A&M (Econ) and so is my husband Derek (Computer Science). And in honor of the game today, my Aggie baby and I wanted to say Gig Em!

Hi Megan! It's so good to "see" you again! Your baby is soooo cute! What's his name again? Love the ensemble! You can hang here all you want, you're an Aggie! We took similar pictures of Aidan today...

Oy, the Ags might be winning but we aren't playing so well. Oops, took too long to post, now we're tied.
