View Full Version : How long between books?

Usually, once I finish a book, I like to leave some time (a day or so) before I pick up the next one, to ruminate and reflect on the book I just read. But lately (thanks to this forum!), my 'to read' list is so big, that I pick up the next book just minutes after finishing one. I feel bad doing this sometimes, like I don't do a book justice, if I just drop it and move to the next one so quickly. And sometimes I am still in the mindset/setting of the previous book, when I start the next one. But there is too little time, too many books!
I guess this isn't a problem when you are reading a series.
What about everyone else? Do you move from book to book quickly?

i go from one to another immediately and i also like to read 2-3 books at a time
I usually go right to the next but once in a while I'll take a few days before I pick up a new one. Some weekends I will read 2-3 books straight through.

I'll be reading anywhere from 1-3 books at a time, and rarely have "space" between any reading. Books that deserve reflection/pondering I'll do so when I can't read, like on my commute home, even if I've already started another book. Although when I'm in the middle of multiple books, usually only 1 is a "thinker" and the rest are "fluff."

One after another. I don't pick a book up and start reading the second I finish a book, but I usually have it picked out. Yeah, some books just have to ferment in your mind before you can go onto the next one. I can tell if I'm reading the next book but thinking about the prior one, and then if it's really throwing me off, I just pick up and kind of browse through the book again.
Too. Many. Books.
Not. Enough. Time.
And still, what do I find myself doing some evenings? Flipping through the television channels. Not watching anything, mind you. Flipping mindlessly.

It depends on if I have another book waiting or not. If I do, then I go right into the next book the next day. If I don't, then it can be a little while. I have a big book - The Fingerprint of the Gods (an alternative view on prehistory) that I stopped reading a while back. I found that I didn't agree with some of the author's interpretations and lost interest in it. Still, it exposes me to different ideas and I learn some new things in it. So, if there is nothing else in the house, I pick it back up. But I drop it again when I've got my hands on something new. I think I'll finish it someday.
