I faintly remember reading about a technique where a poster could be mounted to canvas, then something was painted over the poster to appear like canvas/art strokes to make the poster appear like it was actually painted on canvas with oil paints. Does anyone know how to achieve this look?

I would think you could decoupage the poster on the the canvas and the aplly a think layer of glossy decoupage to the top of the poster once it was dry. Otherwise, you could apply polyeurathan with a brusk and i htink that woudl work as well. HTH.

Yep, they did this on an ep. of Sensible Chic I saw recently. Just like Villanelle75 said. They cut the poster to the size of the front of the canvas, decoupaged the back of the poster, put the poster on the canvas, decoupaged the front of the poster with criss-cross broad strokes, and then painted the sides to match the colors on the sides of the poster. Their canvas even had staples on the side and the paint apparently covered that.

It acutally looked pretty good exept for the one where the poster was smaller than the canvas, so that was obvious, even though they painted the canvas to match;). It seemed like as long as you were careful putting the poster on straight, it turned out well. I would use staple-less sides, myself.
