Finding out the gender?: not sure - we were surprised last time, but... :)
Other children: DS, 17 months
we got a BFP on Easter Sunday, but exactly one week later (the day after DS's 1st birthday party, with my in-laws still staying with us) I miscarried... which sucked (even more for having an audience!) I ended up doing some acupuncture and even having my hormone levels tested before getting this BFP (I'm on progesterone now, so hoping this one works!!) We have our 1st appt tomorrow with my OB - I'll know more then - and I can't wait!!!!
Thanks for starting the group!!!

Didn't get a chance to pop in yesterday. Had our u/s. Baby is measuring right on EDD. We go back next Tuesday for our last u/s with the RE, assuming everything still looks good. I start seeing my OB the next Tuesday after that.

We also had a loss about 2 1/2 years ago. It took a while before I wanted to give it a shot again. We also relocated during that time so we wanted to be established in our new town before trying to conceive again.

welcome, R_mageddon!
How's everyone feeling? I had my 8 week appt last Wednesday - everything went very well, luckily! the baby was actually measuring a few days ahead, and the heartbeat looked good... so yay!! :) I go back next Wed for one more, then I've scheduled my nuchal already for Oct 22nd.
The OB moved my due date to May 4th, which is funny, since that was the exact day DS was due 2 years earlier! (but he came a little early - we'll see about this one!) I'm so excited to be at just about 9 weeks, cause that's when I think I started feeling better last time - fingers crossed!! I'm going to have to start a new job soon, and it would be so much easier if I weren't worried about having to eat all the time!! :)

Hi all! I'm hesitantly putting this out there. We haven't told anyone but a few close friends, so it'll be nice to "talk" about it with someone! This is our fourth kiddo and we are thrilled. I always wanted 4. DS#3 is just getting out of the crazy baby stage and I'm excited to start all over again! I have to decide on a practioner still, I used the same doc for the other three, but am thinking I may explore the midwives around and I may end up with them or maybe the OB I've been with forever.DH said whatever I wanted.

Other children: #1 was ectopic pregnancy and we have a beautiful son--#2, Jimmy who is 21 months!!!
I am extremely worried about joining this thread...my first pregnancy was ectopic and I am having some lower back pain, which is FREAKING me out. Of course, we just returned from a week of walking in Disney World so that might be the back pain too...just praying that baby is okay and implanted in the proper spot!! I have an ultrasound on 10/17 but I am trying to get in earlier!!!

I have not been feeling well AT ALL. It's brought me to tears a few times. Adam's been great though. He's been taking care of me (letting me rest, getting me ginger ale etc) and has been extremely supportive (ESPECIALLY when I get frustrated at myself for crying). I think what makes it worse is struggling through my long, busy work days while pretending that I feel fine. By the time I get home I'm exhausted and so nauseated that I can hardly take it. I'm not announcing at work for probably another month or so because I was offered a promotion (I start the position on Monday) that has a lot of responsibility that no one else in the company is qualified to handle. I don't want them freaking out at the idea of my doing the job for 7 months then everything going to hell for a year (I'm Canadian). I am pretty positive that I am not going to take the full year and at LEAST go back part time to keep things smoothly but want to have a solid plan in place that I can sit down and lay out for them before announcing.
We do, however, plan to announce to our families in a week when we go home for Thanksgiving.

So sorry for your loss HK!!
Has anyone else been feeling SUPER tired?? I feel like it is 100% worse than it was when I was pregnant with my son. I came home from work last night, laid down in bed at 7:30pm, was asleep by 7:45pm and didn't wake up until 6:30am. I am literally exhausted. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I am teaching children with autism (although I was doing that when I was pregnant with my son) or if it is just early pregnancy symptoms...ugghhhh...I just want some energy back!!
I also have been feeling so nauseous...everything and every hour of the day I am feeling so sick!! My stomach has also popped a lot quicker than it did with my son. Or maybe I am just retaining water since I am thirsty all the time.

ABSOLUTELY! the fatigue/nausea combo has brought me to tears several times. I'm about to hit 11 weeks though and it SEEMS like both those things are starting to ease off. I hope I didn't jinx myself by saying so, especially since in a couple hours we're hitting the road to head home for thanksgiving weekend. I'd hate to not enjoy MIL's awesome cooking tomorrow because I didn't feel like eating it!
We're making our announcements this weekend. Today will be the first. I'm super excited!

How did the announcements go r-mageddon??
I am still feeling pretty sick. I have my first gyno appointment on Monday. I am assuming I will have the ultrasound done at that point. I miss not going to the fertility specialist with this pregnancy. With my son, I had an ultrasound every single week for 12 weeks. It was nice having the comfort of that many photos!! plus it was cool to see our son growing! I am happy though that we didn't need to go back to the fertility specialist!!

The announcements went GREAT! Both our families are completely thrilled and our mothers are already talking about the shower and stuff they want to buy the baby lol. Both of our BFFs were just as happy, if not more! This is our first and Adam's brother and twin sister each have two (I'm an only child), it was nice to finally be a part of the kid conversations. His sister used to talk to their brother as if he was the only one that would understand or have any more babies. It used to sting a little.
Thursday was our first big midwife appointment.
The appointment went amazingly! One of our midwives (they work in teams apparently) is hilarious! We get to meet the other at our next appointment.
She took some blood (yuck) and did the detailed medical history. Because of diabetes and such in my family, she wants me to do an early 2 hr glucose test and gave me the paperwork to get that done in the next week or so.
After talking with her, I'm swaying towards natural birth with pain management and I think Adam is more on board with this as well. We're looking for a birth with little intervention and this would help with that.
We also heard the heartbeat! OMG, what a sound! She had trouble finding it at first and I started to panic but she kept at it and sure enough, our babe was just playing hard to get. I can't describe how that felt when we finally heard it.
What I really love is now we're planning, making decisions and DOING something more than just waiting. It feels real now...people know (I told my boss today after the appointment too), we've heard the heartbeat, we're deciding on our birth plan etc. I'm excited :)

So happy to hear that your announcement went well!!! It is so exciting telling people and seeing how excited they are for you!! Glad you liked your midwife too...I remember hearing Jimmy's heartbeat for the first time and my husband and I just both started crying. The fertility doctor left the room so we could have some privacy and left me strapped up to the heart rate monitor so we could listen while he wasn't in the room. It was an amazing feeling!! Nothing better than hearing your child's heart beat for the first time!!

Well, my gyno cancelled on me at 3:59 when my appt was for 4:45pm. I am very annoyed and also very upset at this point. I talked to the nurse and she said my HCG level was 64000 but my progesterone level was 11.7. I lost an ovary and tube during my last pregnancy and wonder how much that is affecting my levels. They scribed me progesterone...but I wonder how much the level fluctuates during the day. I went at 4ish to get my blood drawn. I am now re-scheduled for my gyno appt on Thursday...hopefully everything goes smoothly for it!!

We officially started our second trimester today!! I'm just waiting for the whole 'feeling great' part of it that everyone keeps talking about. This week has been the worst yet for morning sickness
Tomorrow I'm going for an early 2hr glucose test. I'm not at all looking forward to it but know that it's smart to have done considering the history of diabetes in my family. I'm afraid that drink is going to make me sick though, especially after fasting.

Rmageddon I did the 1 hour already due to my PCOS. I've gone back and forth and how bad the drink is through out my pgs, but I really do think you'll be ok. I only know 1 person who has actually thrown up from the drink.

I don't think I'm going to be here much longer though. Yesterday I had real light bleeding and thought it might be from going to the chiro the other night. Today, it's heavier. I think it's not going to be a viable pregnancy this time around.

10-21-2011, 03:39 AM
I had a scare yesterday...had bright red bleeding in the morning. Went straight to bed and called gyno. He had me come in at my regular time for an exam and we got to see our baby with a heartbeat. He isn't sure why I am having bleeding...but he said now that we have seen the heartbeat and the baby is measuring right on target that the chances of losing the baby are very slim. He said that right around 7-8 weeks there will sometimes be bleeding and no one really knows why it happens. Praying that it doesn't happen again...freaked me out!! I can't take the stress...haha!! I have been ordered to take it easy for 2 weeks and no sex for 1 week. (Didn't want to tell him that the idea of sex at this point makes me want to vomit!!--:))
So, in happy news, got to see our baby and the heartbeat. Official due date is 5/30/12!!

lady1297 I hope you are doing ok and that it was a false alarm.
bethnjim I'm glad to hear that the baby is strong and doing well despite the bleeding!
Fenway Welcome! The more, the merrier! It's weird to me to have someone joining who's due date is almost 2 months after me. It feels like I was just the newbie worried that I was coming in too soon :)
AFM I survived the glucose tolerance test. It was unpleasant to say the least but I'm glad that I did it. I thought that I was going to make a new friend because there was another pregnant woman only 2 patients ahead of me that said that she was going to be there for 2 hours. I was excited that I'd potentially have someone to talk to, but when they called her to the window, she hadn't known that she had to fast so they sent her home.

Haha Fenway - I'm June 30th too! Just waiting for my beta on Wednesday to officially join, but I've been getting BFPs since last Tuesday.
Hi ladies, I am joining. I was part of the pregnancy group on here when I was pregnant with my DD 6 years ago and it was great to just "talk" with other moms-to-be about what we were going through. So I am going into my 11th week....since it has been a while since I was last pregnant, I truly forgot just how miserable these first few weeks can be....I just want to throw up and sleep all the time....starting to come out of it a little, I feel like I have more energy since last week....I know that "honeymoon" phase of the second trimester is coming up...just want to fast forward there... :)
I had a u/s on 10/6 (8 week visit), and we saw the heartbeat. Going for the nuchal translucency u/s on 11/4 and seeing my doc again (12 week visit).
We just finally told most people this past weekend, which makes it feel very real to me finally! We told my DD who is 5 and I thought she may be upset or jealous but she has been so sweet about it, talking about how she is going to help me with the baby and how she has to start doing more things by herself because she will be the big sister...I was so proud of her! Still haven't told my boss or anyone at work yet...will probably do that sometime this week. I think its getting harder to hide. With my DD I didn't show till I was like 6 months...with this one I feel like I already need maternity shirts...

Welcome, everyone!
I booked my first appt for Thursday. First appts are always done with the NP. She is awful. She talks AT you, not TO you. If my SIL didn't warn me last time around about how lacking she is in the personality department, I probably would have bailed on that office and found different doctors. She's a horrible first impression for the practice.
So, I know this sounds bad, but tell me what you think. My OBGYN only does one ultrasound for the entire pregnancy. I really wish they did one early, too. SIL, who has been though two pregnancies with the same practice recommends that I tell them I have no idea of the date of conception or my last period. In that case they'll do an ultrasound. I just want to know everything is okay. WWYD?
I already can't sleep. With Chloe, I slept like a rock from conception until about two weeks before she was due. She's been an awesome sleeper since she was born. I hope my lack of sleep now isn't a preview of what's to come later!

I have had my beta (1,297 on 17dpo) and repeat beta (3,902 on 19dpo) and feel comfortable joining in here as I can! I don't want to miss out on any of the good chats that are in here! :) I have my first appointment on November 7th for an ultrasound. I'm hoping to see the little heart just beating away when I get there.
As for symptoms, I'm exhausted. I didn't remember it starting up this early with DS, but DH swears I was. Maybe I'm noticing it more because I don't have the luxury this time of just crashing on the couch whenever I get home. Anyway, I have a little more nausea than I had last time. Last time, I think I had a whopping two total times when I felt "off" but this time, it seems to be more regular. I've even thrown up a few times, which seems crazy! Maybe that means this is a girl!

I saw my GP yesterday and his test didn't show a +, but it was about an hour after I had peed at home, and I had 3 + in the last 5 days (including 2 hours after I got home from the doc). He admitted their tests aren't great and he sent me for blood work anyway.
We will be finding out the gender ASAP, because we have a genetic disorder that only occurs in males in my family. Last time we had an amnio at 15 weeks, and will likely do the same this time. We are wishing, hoping, and praying for a girl.
We had a rough time getting the bfp and it happened out of sheer luck! DH and I had both been diagnosed with diminished fertility and we gave up hope and made piece with our one child. Then we got nasty colds and were at home together hopped up on cough syrup and decided to BD in the morning. Sure enough, it's what worked with DD, and it worked this time too! If only we had remembered that, we could have saved ourselves the 16 months of frustration. :)
Last time, I had a rough pregnancy, so I hope this one is free from reflux, kidney stones, norwalk and 8 months of morning sickness. But nothing easy is ever really worth it, right?
So far- just feeling a bit queasy/butterfly tummy, tender breasts and peeing a lot.
Feeling super nervous about telling the folks I work with. It's a baby factory around here and I just started a temporary assignment in September, to cover a one year mat leave. This is my dream job and I hate the timing, but I am so thrilled to be pregnant!

We weren't trying, but we definitely weren't preventing either (using the "pull & pray"...it's a long story. I don't agree with it, but agree with not denying my husband sex either). Will be stopping in the dr's tomorrow to get a "pee test" to show to my insurance company. I can't believe it! I really hope it's a girl, but will be thrilled with a happy baby either way!

We've already announced but I thought of doing some sort of baby related carving this year. I always do intricate carvings and thought it might be fun to do something to commemorate our coming arrival. I say go for it!

sare79 - I will hope for a girl for you guys! Are you able to guess based on the timing of when you BD relative to O date? What does the Chinese Calendar say?
I think we're going to tell our families after the first ultrasound in a few weeks! I can't wait to tell them, but I just want to see how everything is progressing.

chiclady- Chinese calendar says girl for us. Hopefully it's right. I'm not exactly positive when I O'ed because it was off this month with us having colds and I wasn't temping this cycle. I'm just trying to believe. My brother had two boys, so it's only fair to my mom that I give her two girls, right? ;)

The baby was measuring right on target and the OB said my risk of m/c is down to 2%! I scheduled my NT scan for 11/8 and then go in for my next OB appointment the week after the scan.

Well, still having bleeding in and off, but no cramping and it comes and goes, so I'm still hopeful. I am hoping the doc will do an early ultrasound.

lady I'm sorry to hear you're still bleeding but it's good news that there's no cramping. FWIW, I had a lot of bleeding with my last pregnancy and found a subchorionic hemmorage on an early ultrasound. Despite the bleeding, I saw a h/b twice so the little guys can hang on through a lot. My PG ended in m/c but that was due to a chromosomal issue and not related to the bleeding. I would push for an u/s to set your mind at ease, if possible. Good luck!!

Confession time! Even though I am only 5 weeks, we told our almost 5 year old yesterday.
DH and I spilled the beans because she came down with Fifth Diease (also called slapped cheek or roseola) and it can be pretty harmful for a fetus.
DH took her to the Dr to get it checked out and the Dr said "make sure that Sarah washes her hands any time she touches her because it could hurt the baby." C asked "what baby?" and DH tried to shrug it off. She was put on Benadryl to get rid of the itch and inflammation and she's one of the kids who gets wacky on it instead of sleepy, so she broke DH and when they went to take me to the lab for my blood workup, she said "Daddy said you have a secret to tell me."
Sure enough, we caved and told her. It was like we told her we were going to Disneyland- she was so happy and started squealing and grabbed my tummy and kissed it and said "I'm your big sister, baby."
This is a girl who will wish at a fountain every chance she gets, every wish on a birthday candle and every eyelash wish for a baby sister. This is a girl who helped change a fiend's 2 day old baby diaper in the hospital because she was so excited to be around a baby. This is a girl who got barfed on by the same baby and said "Shhh... it's okay baby. You'll be okay."
We wanted another baby for lots of reasons, but giving our daughter a sibling is amazing.

I hosted a girls night out last night and was instantly called out for my lack of drinking. Since some of my girlfriends know now, it only seems fair to tell our families. I'm thinking we might stop in on the ILs tonight to tell them then I'll probably spill it tomorrow night at the Halloween party we are hosting. My dad and smom will be there. Mom and sdad will have to wait until we see them on Monday.
My OB is 14 weeks pregnant. While I am thrilled for her, I'm bummed because I'm sure she will be on maternity leave when I deliver. I haven't even talked to her yet, but I heard through the grapevine. All the other doctors in the practice are men.
Other than that, not much new here. I'm freezing all the time, and the exhaustion is starting to set in. I've had slight waves of nausea, but nothing too bad yet.

emjay!!! Welcome!! So excited for you!!! Wes is doing great, and since then I've had Parker who's 15 months! This will make #4! We can't even believe it!
fenway- Talk about FREEZING! DH and I had date night last night, and I could not get warm in the restaurant! It was AWFUL!!! I'm either extremely hot or extremely cold! I definitely remember this from all 3 of the others. One of the few things I disliked about being pg. :)
I'm extremely exhausted! I can't get enough sleep, yet, when I try to nap, I can't fall asleep. Thankfully, all 3 of my kiddos still take naps. P (15 mos) takes 2 naps a day, and the two big kids (DD, 4; DS1 3) still take a two-three hour nap in the afternoon. I love when all 3 are sleeping at the same time. Even if I can't sleep, I at least get to rest.
spilling the beans- We already told most of my family. Haven't told my crazy sister, she'll blab to the world, or my brother and his wife. Going to tell them on Monday night. I told my 3 bffs, and a couple of strangers (don't know why I do that). We'll probably wait until we've seen a heartbeat to tell our extended family. We're not telling my MIL until we see a heartbeat because my drug-addict BIL and his GF are pg and due in Feb, and there is WAY TOO MUCH drama surrounding them right now. We don't want MIL to freak out. She's already doing enough damage to herself by completely enabling their situation "doing it for the baby". It's a really sick and sad story. You would think after one son died to a drug overdose, she would treat this one differently. Who knows. Sorry to rant, I'm just so over the whole freaking situation. Thankfully, I don't count on her for a whole hell of a lot, so I'm not worried about it affecting mine, DHs and my kids' lives. Just her own.
Dr. appt- I have my first pre-natal visit on Wed at 3:30. I can't wait! I LOVE my ob, and even though she's never made it to one of my deliveries (I've been induced for all 3, and have always gone faster than expected. LOL) I'm really hoping she'll be there for this one. I know she'll be happy to see me too. Hopefully, she'll schedule an U/S for the following week, or another day that week so we can see a hb. I know I'll feel much more confident after I see that. =)
Well, off to force myself to eat some bf. I don't have ms, but am appetite free in the am. It hits me about lunch time, and then I stuff myself WAY too full. So, I try to eat something and drink some juice in the am at least.

Here's this year's pumpkin. Decided to do the comedy and tragedy masks because this is the first year we didn't travel to our hometown for Halloween mostly because we didn't feel like travelling, especially when we knew I wouldn't feel up to most of the festivities. We live in Stratford Ontario which is home to the famous Shakespeare festival, so it seemed appropriate to honour our first year physically here.

:) We had an ultrasound today. I was soooo scared I had a miscarriage. I bled every morning. Last night, I bled A LOT around 3 a.m. Like period heavy. Day 1 period heavy. I was convinced we would go in there only to be told there was not baby anymore. I was so stressed out. Mega stressed. Then she showed us the baby. The heartbeating-head moving-arm stump - leg stump moving living baby. And we heard the heartbeat. It was so sweet. I'm still scared that something might happen. My mom said her miscarriages didn't have cramping or hurt. So until this bleeding stops, I'm going to be a nervous wreck. But as for today, the baby is there.

I have had quite a few episodes of spotting as well, including one episode of red bleeding in the middle of the night at about 8.5 weeks. I never had anything like that when I was pregnant with my son so I was beyond freaked. My OB did an ultrasound the next day and attributed it to "growing pains." It has completely stopped in the last couple weeks, but that doesn't prevent me from checking the toilet paper like a crazy woman every time I go to the bathroom. It is so hard not to stress out when that happens. Good luck to everyone!

I hope everyone who is concerned for their pregnancies are hanging in there! I'd be a worried mess if I had experienced that with this pregnancy given that we've already had a miscarriage.
Aside from the scares that some are having, how is everyone feeling? I think I MIGHT finally be coming out of the woods. At least I'm not super sick ALL of the time. I am getting patches of relief. At 14.5 weeks, I've been pretty jealous of women who say they never felt sick during their pregnancies or started to feel better at around 9-10 weeks.
I've also discovered the infamous 'pregnancy brain'. Oh my goodness, I don't think I've ever been so scatter brained in my life!

I don't feel pregnant, which worries me a bit because i was so sick with DD. I'm only 6 weeks today, so it just might be too early. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to sail through this pregnancy without any ms, but I just want to know that everything is okay. I've never been good at the waiting game. I'm freezing all the time and I go from starving to full with three bites of food. Other than that, I feel normal.
I may have jumped the gun a bit, but I just ordered a new stroller. Phil and Ted is running a free doubles kit special until Monday, so it just made sense to order it now and save the $100. Of course, now I'm reading that it needs a car seat adapter which is an extra $40, and I gave my Moses basket to my niece. that's an extra $60. There goes the $100 savings... I also have my Bumbleride on Craigslist but I'm not getting any hits on it.
My maternity leave will be right in the heart of my busy season for my business, which isn't good. I think I might take a long leave from my regular job (last time I took 6 months) but try to still see clients at my home office. I just can't see turning down clients during tourist season when I'm still trying to build my clientele. July and August are my busy months and I'm due June 30. Summer of 2012 will only be my second summer open.

Fenway - 6 weeks is about when the MS hit me.
We're DEFINITELY playing the name game. In fact we spent the whole afternoon doing so with boy names because we faltered just a bit on our boy first name (not the second name because it's my deceased father's name). We still love it but it is unconventional (even though it's an ancient Roman name) and we got silly worrying about the potential teasing factor. After looking at quite literally thousands of names this afternoon, we confirmed that this is the name that feels right.
Girl - Briar Rose
Boy - Gaius Kenneth

feeling I am starting to feel somewhat better. I am still exhausted (which I was with DS, too), but of course, it's compounded by the fact that I have a toddler this time around, so I can't just get home from work and lie down on the couch this time. I also have had lots and lots of nausea this time (not so much with DS), but I guess I should be grateful that I am not vomiting as many women do. That is starting to ease up; I still have the WORST taste in my mouth like I am sucking on an old penny or something. Ugh.
names DH and I decided we wouldn't talk names until after the 20 week u/s, but we talked a little Friday night. He likes Isabel a lot, but I am just eh about it. We both like Annette a lot.
confession When I was pg with DS, I did the Drano test (http://www.babygenderprediction.com/drano-gender-prediction.html) for gender prediction. :o Well, it happened to be right. I also had a girl friend who was due five weeks later who did it, and it was right for her, too! So.... I totally did the Drano test on Friday night. :o :o Dr. Drano says baby is a girl. Obviously, we aren't going to be convinced until our big ultrasound. We will be having our big u/s just after Christmas; the time will pass by so quickly... crazy to think that Thanksgiving's in a few weeks!

I am still here...I had some more brown spotting and my gyno put me back on progesterone until I reach 12 weeks. I am officially 11 weeks, so only one more week. I have been a bit worried because I have back cramping with the spotting, but I am trying to stay positive.
Glad to hear that I am not the only one feeling SO TIRED!!! I am exhausted. Between working my job (teaching children with autism), taking care of a toddler and the house, I am stretched to the limit. I had a brief moment of insanity this moment and tore apart the upstairs hallway closet. Don't ask me why...I think with each pregnancy my brain cells take a hit!! It is now cleaned out but I am SUPER BEAT!! I still have to grocery shop, clean up the kitchen and clean up the HUGE mess in our family room that I also created. I am also still fighting feeling queasy all the time and have vomited...more times than I would like!! My gyno said it was a good sign...but he is a man, so wouldn't understand how horrible you feel when your body is constantly wanting to heave the contents of your stomach!!
We are NOT playing the name game. We had a really easy time with our son, who is named after my husband. We haven't even discussed it yet. We will probably do that AFTER our 21 week ultrasound!!

I've happily moved into the 2nd trimester and my morning sickness turned off like switch, so I'm feeling quite a bit better. Unfortunately, where the nausea ended, afternoon/evening headaches picked up. Still better than being queasy all the time, though!
I had a routine OB visit on Friday and was able to hear the little one's heart beat - always a wonderful reassurance. We are definitely playing the name game over here. We have a definite girl first name, a possible girl middle name, a possible boy first name and we're nowhere on a boy middle name. We'll be finding out the gender this week, so we're hoping to make final name decisions, too. Can't wait to know who this little one is (and super ready to start feeling some movement, too).

I'm feeling pretty good. I am one of the lucky ones who doesn't get sick I guess. I never got sick during my first pregnancy and this one is about the same. I might feel a little nauseous if I am super hungry, but that's about it. However, I've been so sore, like a crippled old woman. I exercised religiously before I got pregnant with DS and all throughout my pregnancy with him, but this time around I hardly have the time to work out, so maybe that's the reason. My back hurts off and on and I just feel like my joints in general are weaker/more sensitive. Who knows.
Names - We've discussed some but will keep the actual name we decide on a surprise until the birth. I have a few I've bounced off of my husband, and I'll let him sit on them for a few months until we start to really have to decide.
For those with children already, when are you planning on telling them about the new baby (if you haven't already)? My son turned 3 in August and I am dying to tell him, but I feel like May is so long for him to wait. We will probably wait until Christmas at least to tell him, and maybe we'll get him a baby doll as a present so he can "practice." I've asked him what he thinks about having a new baby come live with us, and how some of his friends have little brothers and sisters, etc. and he is definitely open to the idea. We showed him some home videos last night from when he was a baby and he enjoyed watching them. He asked me this morning if we could go buy a baby today. :p I just don't want to put him through months of asking where the baby is and when is it coming. What do y'all think?

Emjay My DD just turned 3 and we've already told her. My DS had also just turned 3 right before he was told about DD. I think the concept of having the baby/ baby being in mommy's tummy/ coming to live with you/ etc has so much to it, that it takes quite awhile for little ones to wrap their heads around/ adjust too.

For us, we have decided to wait until almost before we tell everyone the news to tell our DS. This is because DS has never been able to not tell everyone he meets exactly what is going on in his life. His preschool teachers know when I go to the grocery store, when our TV was broken, etc. Since I'm not ready to share the news with everyone outside our family and it seems unfair to tell him that he's not allowed to tell anyone, we are waiting until close to the end of the first trimester. We also aren't telling DH's family other than his parents until later because his sister just had a failed IVF cycle. While I know she will be thrilled for us because she knows that we struggled this time to get pregnant, it just doesn't seem very kind to her to come out with our news right after she has had a huge disappointment of her own.
As for me, I'm feeling a lot better. I went to the doctor yesterday and had an ultrasound and saw the most beautiful baby and heartbeat I've ever seen, well maybe since DS! The heart rate was good. Supposedly I've gained one pound, but that was likely a scale thing because the day before at the gym, I hadn't gained anything. I'm trying to avoid gaining as much weight this time around. Although I lost it very quickly, 50 lbs is a lot to put on. I'm hoping that with my due date this time, I won't be quite as swollen. DS was born on 9/1/08 so at the end of a very hot summer - I put on at least 15 pounds of water weight!
I'm feeling good but very tired. And it seems that the fatigue is getting worse each week. Last night, it was all I could do to stay up until 8:30 so I had a little time after DS went to bed. Long gone are the days when I could come home from work and pass out on the couch! I've had a few days when I wasn't nauseous so much as I could not open my throat to eat anything other than bread. I definitely didn't have that with my DS. It seems to be more infrequent so that's good!
As for the name game, we definitely have a short list for boys and girls. It's funny because all of the boy names that we considered for DS that we didn't use have automatically been eliminated in my mind. Almost like, if it wasn't good enough for our first son, it isn't good enough for this one (if it's a boy). I don't know if that makes sense at all, but it does for some reason to me.

I just took a peek at the Chinese calendar and also tried the pendulum method and both said BOY. I'm SO tempted to try the drano test. I'm hoping for a girl and DH is hoping for a boy.

emjay We told DS when we told everyone else. Mostly, we told him so early because he likes to play very rough, and we were explaining to him that he needs to be gentle around my belly. He is very excited. We did tell him that it takes a long time for a baby to grow enough to be born, and he seems to get that. I think it's all based on your child. :)
Fenway If you do the Drano test, have your DH mix in the crystals outside and have a lid for your jar; it really does make nasty fumes. I just used a clean spaghetti sauce jar, and DH did the rest outside. Have fun! :)

I've got to ask what the Drano test is? We're not planning on finding out the gender, but I'm all for fun non-scientific things.:)
Reenie
11-08-2011, 04:54 PM
Here ya go, Pookie. http://www.babygenderprediction.com/drano-gender-prediction.html Make sure to get Drano crystals if you do it (I had to go to Home Depot for them... didn't have them at Target).
Pookie
11-08-2011, 05:44 PM
So it says to do it after the 4th month? I bought one at Walgreens somewhat similiar, but it wasn't "technically" accurate because I was still on the progesterone cream. Who knows, maybe I'll try them both, lol.
Reenie
11-08-2011, 06:28 PM
Eh, I did it before 4 months both times, I believe, as did my friend. You get a TON of crystals in the container, so theoretically, you can do it many, many times if you have enough jars. :p
Pookie
11-09-2011, 10:13 AM
Reenie Thanks. I went out and bought it last night.
Here's for my so far highly "unscientific" gender prediction testing:
Walgreens test: boy (However it says not to use if you have PCOS and are on progesterone, which I have both.)
Pendulum: boy (However my OB, who did it with me in her office, said I probably wasn't far enough along for the right "energy." Did that at 13 weeks.
Drano: girl (I'm 14 weeks and it says to do it after 20 weeks.)
Chinese: boy (Right with one kid, wrong with the other.)
I still say I'm having a boy, but who guess I'll find out in April.:)
How is everyone else feeling?

I haven't been up to posting much about this pregnancy because things were looking kind of iffy last week. I had some spotting and cramping and was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma. The doctor said it was large and could threaten the pregnancy. However, I haven't had any more bleeding and the clot seems to have stabilized. We saw the heartbeat on Monday. I go back on Friday for another u/s.
I am having some soreness on the right side of my abdomen today. Not sure if it's ligament pain already or sore ovary from IVF. Oddly it goes away if I stand up and walk around. Every time I cough or sneeze I get a SHARP pain in my right side.
I've been feeling ok, a little nauseous here and there but nothing too bad as long as I eat (which I have been doing A LOT of). I've been craving veggies, which was the same with my DS. I have been really tired though. Thankfully my DS still naps so I get a nice break in the middle of the day.
We've told DS, but he's 26 mo. so I don't think he understands. He's not real verbal so we don't have to worry about him spilling the beans. If we ask him if he wants a baby brother he shakes his head no. If we ask if he wants a baby sister he says "yeah".
The Chinese calendar and pendulum test are both saying girl. The Chinese calendar was right with my DS.

Almost everybody thinks we're having a girl. I feel strongly that it's a boy though and a colleague of mine dreamed last night that it was a boy as well. I can't WAIT to find out. I love surprises but only if I don't know that there's a surprise coming ahead of time. LoL

I had a dream it was twins! I hadn't even considered it as an option until now. My dad is a twin.
Each day I'm a little more nauseous than the day before, but nothing as bad as I had with Chloe. It's still early, though. I've been craving greek salads. It has everything I want; lettuce that seems somewhat hydrating, salty feta, vinegary dressing, olives and hot peppers. I seriously can't get enough.
I have an ultrasound on tuesday, which will be just over 7 weeks. When does a heartbeat show up on an ultrasound?
emjay
11-10-2011, 05:49 AM
Fenway, you should be able to see the heartbeat. This (http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/earlyfetaldevelopment.htm) is a good link about early development. I saw my baby's heartbeat at 6w1d.
Gender - I am guessing boy, but that's probably because that's what I really want. Well, what I really want is a healthy baby, but I would love for my son to have a brother. Most people around me say girl, but I think that's just because they assume every woman wants a girl and since I've already had a boy, why would I want another? We'll know when I deliver. I love being surprised!
How scary Diam! I'm glad things are looking good for you.
So after I posted the question regarding telling your child about the baby, my DS has been talking non-stop about it. We have been talking it up to him some by asking him if he likes babies, would he like a baby to come live with us one day, etc., but his teacher at school told me yesterday that he has been talking non-stop about it. Then, when I picked him up yesterday, he asked me if I had a baby in my belly! I have no idea where he even learned that babies are in their Mommy's tummies before they are born. I asked him who told him that and he said "my Grandma and Grandpa," but they have been under strict orders not to tell him and I don't think they would say anything. Then this morning he said something about how I need to rock him and Daddy can rock the baby. I said "what baby?" and he said "the baby that is coming to our house." I'll give him the official word at Christmas, but either he is more perceptive than I realized or I've just been talking about it too freely.
Great news chiclady! I was so relieved when I saw the heartbeat for the first time. It's such a milestone when it feels like you've come so far and waited for a long time.
I have a regular OB appointment next Thursday. I'm looking forward to hearing the heartbeat again and officially being in the second trimester. I feel like I've been so worried about every little thing this time around, that I haven't stopped to enjoy much of it. I took weekly belly shots last time, but this time I've been too paranoid. I think I'll start on Sunday when I'm 14 weeks. Lord knows I look about 5 months pregnant already. I have GOT to go get some maternity work pants and long sleeve shirts. I only have jeans, skirts, dresses and short-sleeved/sleeveless stuff from last time since I was mostly pregnant in the warm months.

I go for my first genetic counselling appointment next Thursday, and they'll set me up with my first dating ultrasound to figure out when we will be doing the CVS or amnio.
I keep saying I want a healthy baby, but I really want another girl. With the genetic disorders, it would just solidify on my mind that we don't have anything to worry about. I know it's ridiculous because there is a world of other complications, but for some reason, I just keep thinking girl equals healthy in my family. DH really wants a girl as well, for the same reasons, and also because we have a storage locker full of girl clothes that we could reuse.
I started looking though my old maternity clothes last week because while I haven't gained any weight, my pants are all so tight! While I was doing that, I came across other baby stuff. It's been so long since having a baby that our bucket seat is expired, so we'll have to buy a new one.
One other thing I wished I had with DD was a glider. We had a big comfy chair from Ikea that I fell asleep in all the time, but I really love using a glider when I watch my friends' children. I'll be keeping my eyes open on Craigslist for that.
I've been queasy for while, but nothing like the daily throwing up with DD. I wonder if it's because I'm not as worried/stressed this time around.

Been lurking, but finally joining. This was a total whoops. DH was supposed to get a vasectomy and didn't but we were super careful. We only told my mom and I told my friend at work because I have been super nauseous and extremely tired until yesterday. Still haven't told the kids, work or most of the family.
I had my 12 week appointment yesterday and she couldn't find the heartbeat, but we were able to see baby moving around on the u/s and she said I was measuring a little small, but I did with all my kids. They wanted to change my due date to 6 days later, but there would be no possible way for me to have gotten pregnant she changed my dates.
names We haven't even talked about it. I think we were in shock. We always use family names, I like Nora Jane for a girl and not clue for a boy.

I'm 6 weeks today, due July 5. Is it all right if I hang out in this thread until a summer thread is started?
My first appointment isn't until 11/29, and I don't think this is going to feel real until I actually have that appointment and know the baby is healthy & developing normally. I have been really nauseated the past two days, but am trying to take symptoms (I'm also SUPER tired and have started going to bed early) as a good sign!

I have my first appointment November 23rd. I delivered at an Army hospital last time but this time I will be delivering off post at one of the hospitals. I'm relieved because we aren't in the same state as last time and this Army hospital is horrible!
Telling kids- DS knows, maybe we talk so freely about it. I think he kind of gets it because two of his friends just became big brothers and he went and visited the new babies.
Names- If it's a girl we're thinking Mia, but I can't think of any middle names other than Grace that go well with it. Boys, I won't even talk boy names with DH because he dislikes every boy name.

Welcome Sposa and Ilovemysoldier!
I am pretty sure I've felt my baby move a few times in the past few days or so. Am I crazy? Anyone else think they are feeling anything?
Pookie

Emjay I had some gas that felt somewhat like movement when I was around 12 weeks, but nothing in the last few weeks. I'm hoping that since I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow and have a posterior placenta this time I'll feel something soon. DD had an anterior placenta so I didn't feel much until after 20 weeks.

Hey everyone! I've been stalking, reading along, but not commenting much. I had a lot of bleeding the last few weeks, so even though I joined this thread, I've avoided posting, just in case. Well, the bleeding has pretty much abated, we had an ultrasound at 9 weeks 5 days and baby was happy and healthy and measuring exactly on time. So now I feel safe posting.
Gender prediction: I WANT to say girl. The Chinese Gender Chart says girl and was right on the first three boys. Maybe?? I soo want to do the Drano test, but hate buying the stupid stuff for one test. SHOULD try the pendulum one! What do I think??? I don't even want to say! LOL!
Telling the other kids: DS1 has suspicions, but we haven't told him directly. Waiting til I'm safe in the next trimester and have had one more doctors appointment (which is in 2 weeks).
Names: We have quite a few girl names floating around. I think the main two in the running are Mary Agnes (nn Meg) and Lily Anne. For boys?? HA! We ran out of those a whole child ago. I want Liam Nicholas I think. Hubby wants William (close!) Something. I think maybe we could do William Charles, (nn Liam). Can I say realistically, I'm not wanting to come up with boy names!? LOL!
I'm so tired at night. I don't get a chance to nap with three kids running around, two in and out of school all day long. So by the time they are in bed, I tuck myself into bed, watch a bit of tv and fall asleep. I'm soooooooo stinking hungry though. It comes out of no where. And I've been more nauseau's this time around than my other three pregnancies combined. That plus the bleeding make me hope I get to pick girl names!
Soo different this time around.

Lady This pg has been different for me as well. I have one of each gender, though. Just thinking it was because I'm older now and already chasing 2 kids around? As for the Chinese charts, it's been right once and wrong once. The drano test says you have to be 4 months to "make it accurate", but by then you could see on u/s? We're not actually finding out this time, so I'm all for the wives' tales, lol.

Hi, ladies! Sounds like you are all doing well. And hi, Ilovemysoldier! Looks like we are due date buddies. :)
I knew that weird and/or vivid dreams were a pregnancy thing, but I assumed they started later. I have had the oddest dreams every night this week. Is that really starting this early, or is it just a coincidence? Last night, for example, I had a dream that one of DH's friends and I went to an outdoor Anthropologie store located in the French Alps. We decided we needed to pee, so we went to the bathroom, where we ran into one of my best friends from high school. The bathroom was exactly like the one in my college's fieldhouse. When we all left, we ran into my BIL, who asked us if he knew where we could find paella, because he was craving it. It's funny—I guarantee he's never heard of paella, but I actually think he'd really like it. So I'll have to tell him about it (just paella, not the dream).

Sare79 - how did everything work out with your DD's Fifth Disease? We think my DS has it. :( He has a cold and when he woke from his nap his cheeks and chin were red and stayed that way. I'm hoping my RE can test me for immunity tomorrow since I have no idea if I've been exposed before.

diam124 - For DD, it started with the red cheeks, and that went away with the help of some Benadryl after 2-3 days. She seemed fine for a day or two and then had a fever spike of 103, and lost her voice, with a nasty cough. That lasted about 4 days, and then she got better. The cough is lingering though.
I broke down and bought some maternity clothes this weekend - a pair of cords and black pants for work, as well as a few tops and a bella band. I wish I knew about the band last time around- it is really coming in handy! I got the black one and I am seriously considering getting the white as well.
We went away on a short trip to visit some family this weekend (1 hour driving and 2 hours on the ferry each way) and that wasn't great for my queasiness. I also had a tiny bit of spotting yesterday morning, which I never had with DD, so I was pretty freaked out, and so was DH. It was only the one trip to the bathroom that it happened, so I don't think it's a big deal, and it seemed to clear itself up.
My brother and his family were in town for the weekend, so we told them last night at dinner, rather than waiting and telling them on the phone. We lost our dad this year and my brother and I have grown a lot closer because of that, so I knew it would mean a lot to tell him in person.
My genetics appointment is on Thursday of this week and I am hoping that they will send me for an ultrasound. I had one at 7 weeks last time, so I am impatiently waiting to see a heartbeat.
How's everyone else doing?

All of us except DH are fighting some sort of germ here. The kids have been coughing with runny noses for what seems like 2 months now, and I got it at the beginning of last week with fever and all. Hoping it will end soon!
I got to see my little blueberrie's flickering heartbeat last Wednesday, and that made me feel GREAT! I go back next Wednesday, since they dated me a week behind what I should be. Typical of my pregnancies though since I tend to ovulate around the 21st day of the month.
Ferris- We were supposedly being "very" careful too. I don't believe in birth control (religious reasons), and we normally use NFP. DH likes to use the "pull & pray method" (which I don't agree with, I know, sounds hypocritical, but also don't deny him sex. A happy man makes for a happy family. :) ) Anyways, I've always told him that method doesn't work, and finally I was proved RIGHT! God definitely wants this little one! And we are thrilled about it!
I am extremely exhausted! I really just don't want to do anything. I took the kids to Monkey Joe's this am, and by the time we left, I was almost falling asleep in the car driving home. Yes, I took Parker (16 mos) on all the inflatbles and slides. It's very empty first thing, so I'm not worried about being kicked by another kid.
migraines- So...told my dr about my migraines. She gave me a bunch of solutions. But then, when she found out I was still nursing, she told me that's why I was having headaches and until I stopped, I would have them. Have you ever heard of such a thing?? I was totally peeved! I don't get migraines every day, in fact, I've only had one so far this pg, and I nurse my LO several times a day still! I don't have any intention on weaning until he's around 19/20 months, so I just didn't get this! So annoying!
Ferris
11-14-2011, 04:29 PM
foxyboo We figured it was meant to be too, just a little shocking when all the others were planned! I get migraines too and I am not nursing anymore (milked dried up when I was about 6-7 weeks pregnant) so I wonder what your Doctor would tell me!
Irritated Okay today absolutely everything is bothering me! Everyone at work is better than everyone else, the kids couldn't do anything themselves, and then when I get home BIL ate what I was going to make for dinner. Ugh. I just need to be alone today, but that's not going to happen!
Sare79 Good luck on Thursday. I just broke down and bought maternity this weekend too since I had given all my stuff to Goodwill.

Ultrasound today. I'm a little nervous because I've been feeling way better this time around than last time. With DD, I was terrified for pretty much the entire pregnancy. This time I know exactly what to expect so I feel much more laid back. Maybe it was stress that caused me to feel so awful?
That being said, Bionic Nose has begun. I can smell EVERYTHING. Last night my bathrobe (fresh from the clean laundry) made me want to hurl. My shower oil, which I always thought was the best smelling thing ever, smells like a dirty trash can to me this morning. This is the oil. (http://www.soap.com/p/aveeno-shower-bath-oil-55172) I thought it would have been great for battling dry skin from pregnancy and winter. I promise it usually smells like almonds. I totally recommend it if your Bionic Nose isn't as bad as mine.

Good luck with your appt. Fenway. I don't particularly feel sick this time around either and my sense of smell is also out of control. The whole house smells to me right now. I threw out some onions that were fresh because they smelled like dirty socks to me.
Sare- thanks for the info. Luckily DS' rash hasn't reappeared since Sunday so I'm thinking it was some random thing and not fifths. I did get tested to see if I'm immune though just in case (don't know those results yet).

Everything went fine and I saw the little heartbeat. It was 146 bpm. Even though my conception date gives me a due date of June 30, they gave me a due date of July 2 according to the ultrasound. Are you ladies going to kick me out of this thread? ;)
I'm sooooo tired. I'm really not a big fan of trimester 1.

Ditto on the bionic nose here! Although, it is not nearly as bad as last time! My poor DH was the source of my smell issues and was showering a couple times a day so I could stand the smell of him. He tried about 10 different deoderants, soaps, ets to no avail.
Fenway - Congrats on seeing the heartbeat! I'm really hoping to have an ultrasound with my appointment tomorrow, so I can see the heartbeat! Do you want me to change your due date in the front page?

Diem- I'm not worried. My office said ~5 days so it's still accurate. It will suck when 6/30 gets here and I'm in those final "get this thing out of me before I kill someone" stage, though. :p With Chloe I evicted with acupuncture. Hope everyone's doing well! We were away for 4.5 days over the weekend so I haven't been around. We went home for a family funeral. It was fun. It was also the first time most of the family had seen me since our announcement (my mom announced for us at Thanksgiving since it was Adam's family's year) so I got a lot of attention. The groom (my cousin) even apologized to me in the reception receiving line for not congratulating me when I hugged him outside of the church Lol. I informed him that it was his day and the apology was unnecessary.
Tomorrow we have another appointment with our midwives or as Adam affectionately calls them "The baby witch". We get to meet our second midwife (they work in teams of two) tomorrow so I'm looking forward to it. I hope I like her as much as I do the other one. I assume we'll also get to hear the heartbeat again. I can NOT wait until the 20 week ultrasound!!
I weighed myself at my mom's and it looks like I'm right on track with weight gain which makes me pretty happy and so far it seems to be all baby/tummy and little gain in other places. Still have my hour glass figure so far, it's just gotten extra curvy in the tummy!

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow. Can the emotional stuff start this early? Because I definitely just cried watching an episode of Sports Night.
We're telling my parents tonight. I'm a little antsy, because it's still so early on, but we've got a thing tonight where it'll be super obvious that I'm not drinking. So we figure we might as well tell them, because otherwise my mom will just—correctly—guess. My parents are great secret-keepers, so I'm not worried about them blabbing, and I know they'll be excited about a grandkid. I just haven't had my first appointment yet, and am stressed about telling people before I know that everything is going well.

Our appointment went really well! Our second midwife is my age and very sweet. I think the two of them will make a great team.
We got the results back from my early glucose tolerance test. I am right smack dab in the middle of normal. Woo!
My BP was 90/60 but I've always had low BP (was hospitalized for it once).
My fundal height is dead on for where we are and the heartbeat is loud and strong. She even found the placenta so that I could hear the sound of the blood flowing through it. It was definitely cool. I cried again Lol.
She gave us the requisition for our ultrasound and we booked the appointment for December 1st. I can't wait!!!
All in all it was a great visit, the pregnancy is going completely normally so far and I'm truly loving my midwife experience. They listen to us, let us choose what we want and don't want and most of all involve us in EVERYTHING that is happening.

I also have my genetic testing scan scheduled for tomorrow morning at 7:45am so I can get it done before work. I am so excited to have 30 minutes of seeing the baby. I am feeling really queasy still and have thrown up a time or two. Seems to happen most when my stomach is empty, which means I am eating A LOT. I'm still here but I'm feeling horrible. I could cry because I just don't feel well. No morning sickness or anything; just general icky feeling. This is so different for me because after DS I said I would have been a surrogate for someone. It was so easy. I also feel a little bad because DH is the only one that really hears me whine since we haven't told tons of people yet. We're waiting until next week after my 1st appointment BUT I'm kind of poking out. I'm right on that 'is she fat or something else' line.
I'm glad to hear everyone else is doing well.
Macgirl - So excited for you! Did this pregnancy feel different than the last one?

Congrats on your girl Macgirl!
SpelKen- I'm right there with you! I feel horrible all of a sudden. At the beginning of the week I was saying I didn't feel pregnant. I totally take that back.
Does anyone want to share their tips for M/S?
For me, it's anything lemony. I'm usually a coffee drinker, but just like with DD, the smell of coffee makes me want to vomit. Instead I've been mixing my own iced tea lemonade. I'm using Simply Lemonade and Tradewinds iced tea. It's almost as good as the Starbucks half and half.
And of course, there's always the ole standby of saltines.
Anyone else have some tricks?

SpelKen - Don't feel bad, I've had a few good break downs because of how crappy I've been feeling for so long

So sorry Diam!! :(
Fenway--The only thing that is working for me this pregnancy is eating smaller meals that are protein heavy and keeping myself well hydrated. With my last pregnancy, the only thing that worked was carbs, but carbs make me vomit this pregnancy!!
I had my gyno appt yesterday. Everything looks good. My numbers all came back looking great as far as blood work. I had a talk with my gyno about the glucose test and the fact that I can't even THINK about drinking that vile stuff with how queasy I have been lately. He told me to take my time...I am a scheduled c-section anyway. He told me to watch myself though and to try to follow the diet I had last time when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I heard the heartbeat...155...it was so nice to hear. I have my genetic testing in 2 hours...so excited to see the baby again!!

Congrats macgirl on your little girl!
I hope you feel better SpelKen!
As for nausea, I've been lucky once again to mostly avoid it. If I get really hungry I might get a little queasy, but I just eat and I feel better. I've really been craving salads (they have to be ice cold!) and fruit. I was the same way when pregnant with DS.
I had a regular check-up yesterday. Baby's heart-rate was 160 and I'm up 2 lbs. I went ahead and had blood drawn for the AFP test, and should have results back in a week or two. I think I'll rest a lot easier knowing (hopefully!) that things are normal. I don't go back until January 5th (7 weeks away!) due to scheduling conflicts between me and my OB (the practice is just her, her nurse, and the receptionist). I will have my anatomy ultrasound then, but we won't be finding out the gender so I'm not in a huge rush to have it done anyway. Between Thanksgiving, a trip to NYC with my husband, son and some friends of ours, and then Christmas, the next month and a half should go by quickly!
I bought a bunch of maternity clothes last weekend. I got a couple pairs of pants for work and about 7 winter tops. I already feel like I've worn most of it and it's only been a week! I am going to go broke if I keep buying new clothes! Anyone find any good versatile pieces they recommend?
I hope everyone has a good weekend! We've had a cold spell down here in the South and I'm loving it!

diam124 -I'm sorry to hear that.
Macgirl - Congratulations on your girl!
Fenway - I'm trying to eat every couple of hours, even if it's just cheese and crackers or a piece of fruit. Vicks has a vapor inhaler (http://www.vicks.com/products/vapo-family/vapoinhaler-nasal-congestion-relief/#)with that eucalyptus/menthol smell and if I am super queasy, I take a whiff of that.
As for me, I had my first genetics counselling appointment yesterday. We updated my family history and talked about my options for genetic testing and I have opted for a CVS. Last time I had an amnio and didn't have a great experience (with the technician and doctor), so I am trying something different, and it's earlier too. When I asked for the referral to the genetics clinic from my family doc, I also requested an ultrasound. He wouldn't refer me for one because he said the obstetrics clinic would, but they don't see paitents until 12 weeks. When I went yesterday, the genetics clinic called him and said he needed to request one, and I have to go see the family doc today to get my referral and a cervical smear.
So, it looks like I will have my dating ultrasound next week, then my CVS in about 2 - 2.5 weeks. We should know the results by Christmas! Think positive (GIRL) thoughts for me!

Diam, I'm so sorry for you.
I'm realizing that I need to reset my diet and that's helping a little with feeling better. My BF from college was in town last night and came over to talk. We spent a lot of time talking about babies and my DH said "I thought you were going to tell her as much as you were talking." I feel very guilty (and extremly blessed) because we have another friend struggling with infertility and I really would have hoped that it happened for her before me. I know she won't begrude me but I still feel guilty for it.

I went to the family doc yesterday and I am on modified bedrest this weekend. I was having a bit of spotting yesterday morning but there was something else that came out that was like a clot or tissue (albeit very small), but he wants me to stay still for the weekend.
I had plans to do a bunch of Christmas shopping this weekend for family that is out of town so I could get on the shipping. Oh well.
I have my first ultrasound on Thursday afternoon and I am really looking forward to it. I just want to see the heartbeat.
I have had a bit of a struggle this week- My family doctor referred to be an OB clinic when my pregnancy was confirmed. If I have problems, the OB clinic says to go to the family doc. The family doc says he can't do prenatal care. The genetics clinic needed me to have a cervical swab to test for syphillis and gonorrhea before my CVS and the family doc said he wouldn't do it. When I called the OB clinic they couldn't get me in to do it and they said that they don't start care until 12 weeks. I was a bit distraught yesterday, calling back and forth with the genetics clinic, and they talked to the procedure room and asked their advice. They said that they would take my word that I haven't contracted it in the last year (when my last PAP was). It was kind of a rough day yesterday!

Sare- That spotting is awful. Mine has finally been stopped long enough for me to feel safe saying it's in thepast. At least for now. I never thought it would end.
Nausea- It hit me like a vengence around 10 weeks. Small frequent meals and not letting myself get hungry (it came on in a second- I would think, gee I feel hungry, the next second I was ready to puke. Certain foods do set it off. Stuff I make that I'm not a HUGE fan of but the family likes (meatloaf, spaghetti, etc).

ASM: Things are sooo busy. I hardly have time to think about being pregnant! I haven't even gotten the maternity stuff down from the attic. And I really need to. I haven't lost the weight from my last pregnancy so I don't know if ANYTHING is going to fit. I want to buy clothes in regular sizes...maybe I'm still in denial.

Hello! Does anyone know if there will be a July 2012 thread? I know there are a few that have joined this thread. I'm due at the end of the month and feel I don't really belong on a thread with May moms. It will make the last trimester seem to last forever.:)

Well, I had my ultrasound this afternoon and got to see the little one and the heartbeat. It was very exciting! The baby is measuring at about 8 weeks, and there is no way I am only 8 weeks. That would mean that I found out I got a positive pregnancy test at about cycle day 18, and I ovulated on day 14. I don't know of any test that would show up strong on 4 days past ovulation! The genetics clinic will be basing the CVS on these measurements, so I will probably have it in about 2 weeks.

The same thing happened with my DD. She measured small the whole time and they adjusted my due date with her as well, which means that after my induction with her- it had been 44 weeks!
I'm not overly worried, when the ultrasound tech said I was measuring 8 weeks, I just felt like I'd already gotten through most of my first trimester, and now I have to repeat it!

10w4d!
Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'm just getting back in here after a great weekend with family. My family knows, his parents know, but we're waiting to tell his siblings because my SIL just had a failed IVF cycle. We want to be sympathetic to how sad she is right now. Anyway, I'm excited for it to be out in the open!
I had an ultrasound yesterday because I was at the doctor for bloodwork. I was expecting only a blood draw for the 1st trimester screen, but she told me that there was another ultrasound! I was so excited! Baby looks great, we got to hear the heartbeat (high 150's) and it was an amazing sound. Even though I've been through it once before, I still think that every time I see that little junebug on the screen is amazing! Baby was measuring well! We go back for the triple screen ultrasound in two weeks! AND I scheduled all of my appointments through the second trimester already, which is awesome so I got better times than I have been getting. :)
sare - I think that it's fairly normal for the measurements to bounce around a bit. I think it's a fairly inexact science the measurement, especially when you're talking about how little our beans are so far! At my first appointment, the baby was measuring a full 3 days ahead of when I ovulated, but this time, the baby was right when I ovulated. That's not a huge number of days difference, but it's definitely a difference.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving and got plenty to eat!
It's hard to believe I'm already in my 17th week! I was in such a rush for the first trimester to be over and now that it's over, time is just flying by. I'm definitely feeling little bits of movement now and have been for at least a week or more. I love it! Despite the movement, three ultrasounds, and my expanding belly, I'm still finding it hard to believe this pregnancy is actually real. I'm not sure if it's because I've been trying to get pregnant for over a year and can't believe it's finally happened, or if I'm just too busy with my 3yo, work, and life in general. I'm almost tempted to find out the gender so I'll feel like I have some kind of connection with this baby, but I really love being surprised so I don't think I'll cave. I remember feeling similar when pregnant with my son and we didn't find out the gender with him, but after my big u/s at 22 weeks I remember feeling more connected. Maybe once we get the nursery set up and some of our old gear and baby clothes out it will really sink in. I'm excited to finally break the news to DS soon as well. May is still a long way off for him to wait, but I think he is starting to pick up on it due to all the baby talk that's been circulating lately around us.
chiclady - Enjoy those ultrasounds! They are so much fun!
R_maggedon - How exciting that your u/s is so close!
Sare - My OB measured me 3 days behind the day I am 99% sure I ovulated. I know it's hard not to stress about it!

Still here- just busy, busy. We had a great Thanksgiving, and like my due date twin, emjay, I am glad that the first trimester is over and the second seems to be passing more quickly. I am not as exhausted as I was (can actually stay awake past nine!), but I do notice that I am getting more tired from doing things. I am hardly nauseous at all any more except when I get overly hungry, and generally, I am feeling great... so great that it's got me nervous! I have felt a couple of flutters that I've wondered about, but I haven't felt anything yet that I'd say definitively was baby movement. Because I am feeling better and not quite sure about baby movement, I am super-paranoid (yes, I am crazy). I thought about renting a doppler to ease my mind and then decided against it because I was afraid I'd have trouble finding the heartbeat and freak out when things were really fine (yes, I am really THAT crazy). My next appointment is on Dec. 16 at 18w5d, and it can't come soon enough! I will be relieved for the check-up and will also be scheduling the BIG ultrasound! :D SIL announced her pregnancy, too... she is due about four weeks before me. She was also pregnant when I was pregnant with DS, and her DD was born about 6.5 weeks before DS was. I am trying to keep sure that my weight gain stays within normal boundaries this time (I gained 55 pounds last time, and the first 30 slid off like nothing, but the other 25 was a real pain to get off, and when I did, then I gained some stress weight from work last year, and well.... it's always a battle for me. Ugh.), but it sure is hard with the holidays...
R_maggedon I am so excited for you!!! Are you going to try to learn the gender?

Reenie: Glad to hear you are feeling less tired. I can't wait for that, though it is getting a bit easier to stay awake during the day, I'm not so compelled to fall asleep if I sit down! And congrats to your Sister!! Babymovement? I can't wait!! :)
Chic: Yippee for unexpected ultrasounds. Very sad to hear about the failed IVF. I hope she gets some success soon, though.
Sare: I wonder all the time about the accuracy of the ultrasound dating. For two of my pregnancies, I didn't go in for the early ultrasound for that reason. We use NFP, so I KNOW when we concieved for each of my kids. I didn't need the ultrasound to tell me. But with this kiddo, I went because of all the bleeding. More for ME than the dating. But our dating was spot on, so I wonder....maybe I'll have another huge baby! LOL!
--
AFM: Thanksgiving was busy, but fun. We went to the inlaws then took our 3 boys to the Polar Express train ride an hour away. THEY LOVED IT! Sooo awesome and fun. I was supposed to go to the doctors this morning for a check, but he was apparently sick so they rescheduled me for tomorrow. According to MY scale, I've only gained 2 pounds the first trimester. I'm curious if that is what their scale will show. I'm way way overweight (about 50-60 pounds so), so I really really only want to gain a little bit this pregnancy. I am actually hoping that eating healthier and getting some exercise will keep me in a nice check and maybe I can gain around 10-15 pounds at most. So far, so good. I haven't been very hungry and when I do snack, I am trying to make good choices, so that all has helped keep the weight gain low.

Reenie I can't wait to feel baby movement! It's such a great feeling!
Chic it's always a bonus to get to the see baby! I agree about the heartbeat. I usually cry every time I hear it.
Emjay I agree about seeing baby at 20 weeks makes it more real and more of a connection. We didn't find out gender of my first 3 and I wasn't any less connected.
Safe they had me 6 days behind at my last appointment according to my LMP, but I usually O 2-3 days late and the Dr said they expect about 4 days difference during the first u/s. Also, with my other kids, they always measured smaller and they were smaller whe they were born.
Lady That sounds like so much fun! And yeah for only 2 pounds!
AFM I am feeling less tired, but now I can't fall asleep and when I do it sucks. ugh. I was up till 11, fell asleep to only wake up to DH work calling 15 minutes later, then him getting up at 3:30 To fly to New Orleans. As for weight I am up about 6 pounds. I had previous gained, 45, 50, 40. I lost all of it each time, but it took longer each time. I hope I gain less this time.
We have told all our family, and on Thanksgiving my DH told his dad and he didn't say a word to me about it or even talk to me for 4 hours! At least say something! I have told some people at work, but I'm waiting until after my appointment next week. I am getting huge though and I am sure some people are wondering but don't want to ask in case I'm not.

R_maggedon I am so excited for you!!! Are you going to try to learn the gender?
Yes we are. I only like surprises when I don't know they are coming. We have names picked out so I really can't wait for this baby to be a PERSON, if that makes any sense. Originally we were going to keep the gender a secret from others but we're going home this weekend to help my mom decorate her house and I'm pretty sure we won't be able to contain ourselves. Most people think it's a girl. I think boy.
I cry every time I hear the heartbeat, I'm afraid of what kind of blubbering mess I might be tomorrow LoL. I really can't remember the last time I was this excited!

The full bladder thing is freaking me out a little. I'm trying to figure out how much water I should drink and how far in advance. If my bladder is too full Ill be super uncomfortable and if it's not full enough we'll have to wait.

Good luck today R_mageddon!
When I went for my ultrasound, there was a man there (in his mid-40s) who came into the clinic very noisily and demanded to be seen right away because he couldn't hold it much longer. He proceeded to go to the desk and make loud grunts and sighs for the next 10 minutes until his appointment time. Then, he said he needed to go just a little, and the clerk said that he may find that more uncomfortable, and sure enough he came out demanding to get in immediately. Finally the clerk had enough of trying to keep him calm and relaxed and making suggestions to distract himself with a newspaper, and she said " See these three women in the waiting room? They are all in the exact same boat- 3 cups of water over an hour ago, and they all have babies pressed on their bladders as well. HAVE A SEAT." I thought it was hilarious, personally.
AFM- we've gone public with the pregnancy announcements. Everyone at work knows, we posted the ultrasound picture on facebook and emailed relatives. Now to get through the next 28-30 weeks (I'm assuming this one will be late and induced like DD).
lady1297

Sare- That's freaking HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!! We went public today. It makes me feel less worried I would 'slip up' and tell the wrong person the wrong thing. I did offend a few because I didn't call. But after calling the uncles, the bff's, and a few others, I was over calling. Any one call took more than 20 minutes!!
R_mageddon - It's too late, but I've learned, drink the water on your way there. Our hospital takes forever. So thta keeps the discomfort to a minimum. One time, they told me, "Pee just a little to make yourself comfy" Uhm, I was was 8 1/2 months pregnant. That is physically IMPOSSIBLE unless my husband accompanied me and lifted the 9 1/2 pound baby off my bladder and then clamped the whole with an alligator clip (yes, that is what I told her! LOL!) Hope the ultrasound went well!!
AFM: I had my first official OB appointment yesterday. Doc was pleased with everything so far. 1 pound weight gain (I'm in the obese category by about 6 pounds so they don't want me gaining alot). We heard the heartbeat for a split second. He had a hard time finding it and as soon as he did, baby moved and he lost it. We had a good laugh over that. It was an overall good appointment and I decided I'm glad I stuck with what I know. My next appointment isn't until the last week of December and then he'll give me the ultrasound slip for the 20 week ultrasound! Squee!!
QOTD: Does anyone have a sleep suggestion for an addicted tummy sleeper who can no longer sleep on her tummy? The C shaped pillow isn't working (not ENOUGH belly) and little pillows don't seem to stay put. I'm frustrated in my sleep.

I did ok with the water. It's seems I managed to time it perfectly. Go me! Lol Thanks for the story Sare, that made me chuckle.
As for our little guy. He's breach but super active and more than a little stubborn. The tech had to get him good and mad before he'd showed us what we were looking for. ;) We've got arms, legs, feet and hands. He even stuck his tongue out at us.
My placenta is low so i'll likely need to go back for future ultrasounds but I'm hoping that as my uterus grows, it'll move into a better position.
All in all, it was amazing and we're thrilled!

Here's a question for you all. How much weight have you gained? I've been relatively happy because it seems as though I'm only gaining baby and not a bunch of other weight. R_mageddon - Congrats on your baby boy! Little boys are so much fun! :)
Sare - That story is hilarious. I think if I had been there I would have burst out laughing.
weight gain - I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and I've gained 2 lbs as of my last appointment at 14.5 weeks. My first weight check was at 10 weeks so that was 2 lbs in about a month. I gained 24 lbs with my son and so far am on track for about the same this time around, if I had to guess.
tummy sleeping - I am a big tummy sleeper and can still sleep mostly on my tummy, but I definitely feel my rock-hard uterus down low and it's annoying. One thing I do is use a body pillow and lay on my side and kind of hug the pillow all the way from my chest down to my knees. It sort of simulates having something under my stomach. I never bought any pregnancy pillows for my last pregnancy and I don't anticipate needing any this time. I think by the end of my pregnancy with DS, I was practically sitting up in bed to sleep, propped on so many pillows, just because it made it easier to get in and out to pee a million times a night.
Things have been pretty routine around here. We are flying up to NYC next week for almost a week to visit my SIL and see her in her Broadway debut. :) I'm so looking forward to getting out of town and away from work for a bit.
We told DS about the baby last night and he said "I want a baby brother, like me." He didn't seem too hopped up about it, but I think we've been talking about babies enough lately that it's just not a big deal. Once we start setting up the nursery, I think he will really start asking questions. We shall see!

R_mageddon- I wouldn't worry about it at all! It depends on so many things- how sick you have been, how much you weighed pre-pregnancy, how much things changed when you got your + (like going from active to sedentary, etc.).
Personally, I am even with my pre-pregnancy weight. I was down one 2 weeks a go and then up one this week. I am in the obese category and I am 100% positive my OB will tell me no more than 15 pounds for the whole pregnancy. I've been very queasy and a bit barfy, and was in weight loss mode when I got pregnant.

I was highly active before getting pregnant and stayed that way for a few weeks but once the morning sickness kicked in I just couldn't do it. My eating also changed. Still, I think I'm still doing ok. Like I said, I'm not gaining anywhere but in my tummy so it's not that I'm just going hog wild with the eating.
Speaking of my tummy growing, I've really popped in the last week or so. It's kind of amazing really.

R_mageddon - I think your weight gain is pretty normal at this point. They say about 5 lbs in the first trimester and then a pound a week in the second. With my first, I gained 8 in the first trimester and then went hog wild in the second with my weight gain. I can't remember the exact total at 2nd trimester. But I gained 50 pounds overall. And I lost it all by 6 weeks post partum. I should also note that it was 15 lbs of water weight at the end, which came off super fast. I think if you're active before and during your pregnancy, you'll have an easier time of losing it.
AFM, I've gained 4 lbs so far at 11 weeks. My primary complaint has to be the constipation. I'm taking Miralax every three days because it works and then I don't go for three days. Three days seems to be the turning point when it becomes uncomfortable. And I eat a ton of fiberrific foods and drink a ton of water. I remember this with DS too. I have another ultrasound next Monday and then I'm going to tell work and DH's family! Really exciting stuff around here!

chiclady - I can totally relate! I'm taking Colace once a day, drinking a ton of water, and eating anything with fiber I can get my hands on. It sucks. I, too, remember it from my previous pregnancy, but I think it's worse this time.
R_mageddon - It really is amazing to watch yourself grow. I'll see pictures from the end of my last pregnancy and I still can't believe how much your body can change!

R-mag- Congrats on a boy!! I can't wait 'til my ultrasound next month!!
5 lbs in the first trimester and then a pound a week in the second.
If this is true, I'm proud of myself. I do agree that weight gain is highly individual. I am in the obese category (I weigh about 50 pounds over 'ideal weight' and about 20 over my other pregnancies weights). So for me it was important to get through the first trimester with as alow a weight gain as possible. Also, for me it would be good to get a bit more active and really just swap pounds, not a crash diet, but if I actually lost a few pounds of fat that countered the baby's needs, I think that wouldn't be bad. Realisitcally, I want to gain around 15 - 20 pounds max this pregnancy. I can't imagine more than that, I would have to live in my pajamas, I'd have NO clothes that would fit!
chiclady- Oh my, the constipation! I've had that issue already. I told my husband the other day, constipation HAS to be natues way of preparing you for the pain of labor. Oh my, it was bad bad bad the other day. I need to pick up some Miralax AND increase my dietary fiber. But it's not as yummy as french fries (oh HOW am I going to keep the weight down when all I WANT to eat is french fries and ranch dressing?!!!)
AFM: I think we finally hit the 2nd trimester. I am not as tired, though by bed time, it takes zero time to fall asleep. Today I'm nursing a killer headache. If i don't move, I'm okay. If I do, Oh my. But we got our Christmas shopping well under way and we are about half decorated. So, given how tired I was a week ago, I'm impressed.

Well, this is a new one-I have a new pregnancy symptom over here that I had never heard of before. My right thigh goes numb for a while and tingles a bit. It doesn't seem to matter if I am sitting or standing or walking- it just goes numb. I googled it today, and discovered it's something called meralgia parentheses. It can also be caused by tight clothing or obesity. Many pregnant women recommend wearing a maternity belt to lift the uterus off the nerve it's pinching. Anyone else ever get this?
On top of my morning (afternoon) sickness and nosebleeds, I'm a walking disaster! This pregnancy is going way better than the last one, though, so I shouldn't complain.

Nose bleeds! I hadn't had any until the other night. I woke up to my nose gushing blood. I made quite the mess of our sheets and the bathroom by the time I got it stopped and myself cleaned up.

It's been pretty quiet here lately.
I'm feeling really nervous about my CVS tomorrow, but trying not to think about it and instead focus on the fact that I have three weeks off work starting tomorrow.
I thought my morning sickness was taking a turn for the better but I spent most of Saturday night throwing up instead of at my friends' Christmas party. My DD was really disappointed and even asked if I would stop being sick so she could go to the party.
Not sure if I mentioned it here, but my family doctor was refusing to give me prenatal care, like referrals to the genetic clinic, prescription of diclectin, ultrasound, do the cervical swab needed before the CVS... His feeling was that once he referred me to an OB, he was off the hook, but they don't see patients until 12 weeks. So this week, I was able to switch to a new family doctor, who does prenatal care and delivers babies! I'm so happy to have this new doctor who is nice, female, and has children of her own (6 of them!). We'd been looking for a new doctor for over a year- since the last time he screwed up with some meds I was on and (I believe) caused a miscarriage.
How is everyone else doing?

Thanks for posting!! I thought I killed the thread with my nose bleed post LOL
I'm doing good...desperately trying to get ready for the holidays and completely restructure my department at work at the same time.
My morning sickness is mostly gone. I get the odd wave of it (especially when hungry) but generally it's good.
Little man is wiggling like there's no tomorrow. I like it. I feel more connected to him now.
We have a midwife appointment tomorrow and decided to opt out of the follow up ultrasound that the radiologist wanted us to do due to missing a certain angle and my low placenta. We talked it over with one of our midwives on the phone and since the situation with my placenta can change drastically and will require an ultrasound later anyways, we decided that we didn't need it. She assured me that there wasn't a PROBLEM with the baby, just that they missed getting a picture to check for a cleft lip which we wouldn't be able to do anything about until after birth anyway.
The biggest thing for me lately is my dreams! It seems like I'm dreaming about everyone I've ever known and all my fears and worries are working themselves out subconsciously so that I can stay calm in my waking hours. I dream quite a bit about my Dad which I'm sure is normal since it makes me sad that his grandson will never meet him. I miss him more these days. Oh! and sex! I am constantly dreaming about sex! :o

I am constantly dreaming about sex too, but have ZERO interest in it...haha!!
I am also SO tired. I have been falling asleep at 7:30pm almost every night and if I don't fall asleep at that point, I am overtired and can't sleep. My oldest is fighting a nasty cold and is getting THREE two year molars at the same time, so he has been miserable...and I am not loving his daycare right now. When it rains, it pours.
I have another appt on Thursday with the gyno, so I am looking forward to hearing the heartbeat. I am also hoping he write me a script to have an ultrasound done so I can see what we are having. I am so excited to find out!!

Today is my CVS and I am super nervous. We'll be at the hospital for a few hours. I need to get some blood taken first to compare the DNA to, and then the pre-procedure counselling, followed by the actual procedure and monitoring for about a half hour afterwards. Honestly, this isn't even the hardest part. The hardest part is going to be waiting to find out the results.

Dreams I don't sleep well enough to have any! But I do have to say that my sex drive always increases in the 2nd trimester. I guess I have to make up for the 1st trimester.
Fenway if I remember right, I did have sex dreams when pregnant with DS but not my DD's. And since I think this is a girl too, that theory might be true!
SareHow did it go?
Afm had my appointment yesterday, and I have gained 7 pounds, not to bad for me. I am annoyed at the midwives though. They keep bothering me about the screening for downs, etc because I am going to be of advanced maternal age. I have declined 3 times, don't ask me again! Other than that my DH is on another business trip (2nd time this month for a week each). But I was able to schedule our u/s for December 30, since my DH is going to New Zealand for 3 weeks right after the new year. We are actually find out the sex this time so it's kinda exciting!

Hi everybody!
Congratulations, R_mageddon on your BOY! :D
sare Hope everything went smoothly today. A friend of mine recently had a CVS. How soon will you know the results?
sex dreams No dreams at all except one dream about going for the ultrasound and learning the baby is a boy (I'm convinced that it's a girl, but we still haven't had the big ultrasound).
Just staying super-busy. I think I'm feeling bits of movement here and there, but definitely not like I did with DS (DH could feel it from the outside at this point with DS). Actually feeling some anxiety about that. Going to the doctor on Friday afternoon, and I will be very relieved to hear that little heartbeat. Also should be getting scheduled for the big ultrasound then! Cross your fingers for me that they can fit me in one afternoon next week... that'd be great so that we could show our families the pics (and maybe share the gender if baby cooperates) at Christmas. Otherwise, we probably won't see most of our families again until after the baby is born.

It went ok. They had me laying on the table and I got to see some amazing images of the little one, whose eyes were open. The baby was waving and kicking, and flashing it's little bum at the ultrasound- having a great time, but then when the doctor came in, he said my bladder wasn't full enough, so I had to go drink another few cups and come back in a half hour.
I guzzled more water and went back, and they said that because my placenta was posterior, they would have to go in through my cervix. The worst part was when the dr inserted the speculum, he sort of rammed it against my cervix, and it was jarring. It made me panic and cry a bit, but I managed to catch my breath and breathe really deeply the rest of the time. I didn't feel them collect the villi at all, although I am fairly certain I peed on the table because my bladder was too full.
DH brought me home and made me one of my favourite meals, and bought a few snacks for me to have. He's headed to work today, so a friend is picking DD up from school/daycare and keeping her until after dinner. It's tough to just lay down all day, although I should be basking in my kid/husband free day.
Ladies, hope you are all well. I've been following along here too but not posting....but I've been feeling great, lots more energy and no more nausea thank goodness!! I had the nuchal u/s on 11/4 and all the results came back normal. Had a regular appt on 12/4 and my OB took more blood which for further down' s syndrome screening which came back fine too. I am starting to feel movement which is weird to me , with my first pregnancy I didn't feel anything until way past 20 weeks. So far no back pain, and I've been sleeping great! I hope it stays this way! I have a regular OB appt and also my 20 week u/s on 12/30, so we will know the gender before the new year. Very exciting! :)

Hi Ladies - Sorry I haven't been back here in a while! I had an ultrasound Monday and everything looks great! And I think I am feeling the baby as of the last few days. I felt DS at 15 weeks so I guess it's possible that I'm feeling it this early now that I know what to look for. It's always in the same spot, way down low and on the left side. It happens a few times a day so I think it's very possible that this could be it. I was thin before pregnancy so maybe, but who really knows. We'll see!
We finally told all of our friends and family this weekend! It's so exciting to share the news with everyone!
QOTD - For those of you that are repeat offenders, did you have big babies the first time around and what does your doctor say about this pregnancy?
My DS was 8lb 13oz and my doc mentioned that I'll have late third trimester ultrasounds to check for size. I sort of think that I'll be able to handle it because I didn't know with DS that he was going to be so big so I am sure I can handle a little bit bigger baby and would rather not know if he's bigger and make decisions to induce or something. Of course I want to avoid an emergency c-section if I can help it, but I also want this baby to come when he or she is ready because I think that nursing and sleeping goes so much better when the baby is ready to come.

Hi everyone! Things have been busy, busy, busy for me. I just got back from a 6-day trip to NYC and it was exhausting! Between all the crowds, being pregnant, and hauling a rambunctious 3yo around, it was all I could do to not fall down dead every night. I really felt the ligaments pulling in my belly and was worried that I was over-doing it, but I guess I'm just growing! We had an awesome trip and can now focus on full-on holiday mode. Once the holidays are over, it's nursery/baby mode. We have a blank slate for the nursery since we moved only about 6 months ago and the room is just used for storage right now. All the stuff will move up into the attic and then we can paint and decorate. I'm excited! We will be doing a yellow and gray theme to keep it gender-neutral.
Sare79 - Glad to hear your CVS is over!
Dreams - I don't remember having sex dreams last time around (and it was a boy) but I could just be forgetting. I've definitely had them this time and my sex drive is a lot stronger than it was last time as well.
QOTD/Big Baby - My son was 8lbs 1oz when he was born at 37w1d. I had a very easy labor and didn't tear at all, so I'm not too worried about size. The thing I am worried about is an early baby. DS was fine and needed no extra help when he was born, but I've heard that a lot of the time your first pregnancy is your longest. I really don't want this baby to come any sooner than 37 weeks! I expressed my concerns to my OB and she said that it's not so much the length of your pregnancy, but to what size you gestate your babies that seems to dictate when they decide to be born. So this baby is more likely to come at close to 8 lbs than at close to 37 weeks, make sense? I don't know if she's right, but everyone has a different opinion on pregnancy length/baby size when comparing their individual experiences. Only time will tell I guess.
Movement - I've been feeling this baby a ton now. Multiple times a day, every day. On Saturday night I think my husband even felt it. It's not just kicking/tapping anymore either, but I can feel the baby shifting around or when it's moved lower or higher in my belly. It's awesome!
Pookie
12-19-2011, 11:44 AM
Chiclady I agree about your body making babies a certain size and having similiar gestations. I think the first pg being the longest is more of a wives' tale. I think when you look at the actual data, it is more that your body has a certain "gestation" and then is done. I think you can take or leave the third trimester u/s depending on how other things are going. For me, I'll have several due to being high risk.
movement This baby likes to hang out on my cervix, which is kind of a weird feeling.
Sare When do you get the CVS results? I would think the waiting would be the hardest part, especially this time of year.
I have my "big" u/s tomorrow. It doesn't seem as exciting as the previous times due to not finding out the gender. I hope we can hold our guns. I'm finally not as nauseaus, but still hungry all the time. Scared to see the scale at my next appt.

Hi everybody!
Staying busy, like you all. I had a check-up last Friday; baby's HR was 140-150 BPM. I have gained 11 pounds total so far, and the doctor was fine with that. Fundal height was measuring perfectly. They took blood for the second part of the quad screen. I'll have my next appointment at 22 weeks, the 1-hour GTT at 24 weeks, and then another appointment at 26 weeks. Ah well. My big U/S is on Thursday evening, and I am very excited; I am praying that everything looks healthy, and I am hopeful that we will find out the gender. :D
baby size I was induced with DS at 41w2d (gave birth at 41w3d), and it was a long and very hard labor despite being dilated several cm when I arrived for the induction. I had to push for well over two hours, and DS weighed 9 lb., 3 oz. (and I did tear). Ultimately, I was thrilled not to have a c-section, which was my biggest fear. The doctor with my DS did not do any cervical checks at my weekly check-ups until I was either 39 or 40 weeks. Because of the timing of my DS's birth and our spring break that year, I was off for almost four weeks before he was born! I am trying to decide when to start my maternity leave with this baby. I will either work up to 38w5d or 39w5d (provided, of course, that baby doesn't come prior to that).
Have done NOTHING to get ready for baby other than consider what we'll need to buy, etc. I am hoping we'll move before then  so that will be a factor...
Best wishes to everyone having ultrasounds soon! :)

Lucky things have slowed down for me since we are on winter break. It came just in time.
Baby size my first was my smallest, and born at just 37 weeks, my others 2 were born at 39 weeks and were a pound heavier. But I have little babies, my biggest was 6 lbs8oz.
Getting ready for baby we have nothing! We gave everything away and will need to get everything again. We do have DD2 crib, but she is still using it and probable still will when this one is born.
Movement I feel it off and on, but I have been having BH a lot. Did with the other too.

I keep forgetting to come in here and update!! I have my actual due date...because I am a repeat C-section. My official due date is 5/21/12 at 8:45am. It is nice to know exactly what day you will be giving birth!! :p:D
I have my next ultrasound on 12/29 at 9am...keeping my fingers crossed that they will tell us the sex at that point. Hopefully my little one will cooperate!!
Nothing much to report other than that...still throwing up, still getting headaches, still exhausted...haha!!

QOTD- My daughter was born at 41w5d, at 7lb 3oz. She measured small most of my pregnancy, so much that they had moved my original due date back 2 weeks. So in my mind, I was pregnant for almost 44 weeks. I'm not overly concerned about having a big baby, because the sizing and dating seems to be similar this time around.
My CVS- I should find out the results some time after Christmas. The cells take 10 days to culture and since I had the procedure on December 14th, my guess is that they won't call me until the week between Christmas and New Years. Sometimes it takes even longer. Dh's birthday is on January 4th, and that's my cutoff date in my head.
Due Date- Like before, the baby is measuring smaller, so my due date has been adjusted to July 5th. I suppose I could let someone else be threadmistress here and I could go join the new thread, but I may as well stay here. It's frustrating, because at first, my due date was June 20th, then bumped to the 26th, and now July 5th So, I've been through that 12 week mark 3 times now! In my mind, I am over 14 weeks, and so I measure things with that calculation in my mind.
Movement - Not really feeling any movement here, since I'm now only 12 weeks.;)
AFM- I've been having sharp cramps in my side, like the type you get from exercising, but much more intense. I met with my new doctor yesterday and she said it's my organs shifting around to make room for Rocket (as my 5yo DD likes to call our baby) and the accompanying stuff.
At my appointment, the new doctor and I discussed the risks associated with my weight and delivery. We've agreed that 15 pounds is the max I should gain, and that optimally, I could continue with my slow weight loss that I was doing before I got pregnant. I'm still in the severely obese category, and she was saying that the baby will get what he/she needs from me, especially if I am eating healthfully. I understand that and am doing my best to keep the weight consistent. I'm still up one pound from pre-pregnancy weight, which is reasonable in my mind.
The morning sickness is still pretty bad, and my poor DD is suffering. I can't tell you how many times I've asked her to make a ham sandwich for herself for dinner because I'm curled up in the fetal position in bed. I'm hoping it doesn't last too much longer. With DD I was sick the whole time and on Diclectin, which reduced the actual vomiting to 1-2 times a week. No Diclectin this time, and I'm throwing up about once a week now, just with lots of nausea.
Sleep- How is everyone sleeping? I'm not sleeping well. Most nights if someone wakes me up (i.e. DH blowing his nose, DD has a nightmare), I can't fall back asleep for at least 3 or 4 hours. I can fall asleep really easily at night, and try to stay awake until at least 9 or 10, so I can try to sleep a bit later in the mornings. Last night, after feeling really nauseous, I took an anti-nauseant, and asked DH to sleep on the couch. I went to bed at 8:45 and woke up at 6:00, with several wake-ups for turning over and shifting, but was easily able to fall back asleep each time. I think for me, if I hear noises, I have troubles sleeping, and if I wake to turn over, I'm worried about waking DH, or having enough room to turn over. For some reason, I don't think he'll sleep on the couch for another 30 weeks, so I guess I need to come up with a better solution!

Sare Sorry you have to wait so long for the results. I can't imagine how nerve wrecking that must be.
AFM Had the big u/s today. Baby is looking great and we managed to stay on team GREEN!!! We had to wait for the peri to come in and give the "ok", so it was hard not to change my mind. I'm glad I didn't give in. Except that I'm going to start having monthly u/s, so there will be plenty of opportunity.

Hey all....Been very busy with Christmas and the kids school. So different than my other pregnancys.
Baby Size: My three were all different sizes and gestations. DS1 was born on his due date, 8 lbs 1 oz. DS2 was 3 1/2 weeks early,7 lbs 12 oz (I think, I'm blocking it right now) and DS 3 was a 40 weeks 3 days and induced because I had prodromal labor for three weeks ... he was 9 lbs 6 oz. So, everywhere. DS 3 would have been born much earlier, but his hand was over his head and would engage the cervix then he'd pull it back...over and over and over...
Movement- I've noticed some fluttering...but can't decide if its baby or gas! LOL!

We had our big ultrasound last night. The baby is measuring beatifully and consistent with my changed due date (changed after seeing the nuchal translucency scan), so they're keeping the due date at May 13, Mother's Day. We got to see all of the beautiful body parts (I think the spine, heart, and facial profile are my favorite things to see!), and baby's heartbeat was 147. My placenta has moved up (thank goodness!), and the tech was able to explain why I haven't felt more pronounced movement (which as been making me feel anxious): I have an anterior placenta. So that is actually kind of a relief. And you can add us to team pink because, just as we've suspected all along, she's a girl! :D DS is very, very excited to be getting a sister!
Pookie Yay for your good ultrasound! Why are you going to have more, if you don't mind my asking?
sleep I am sleeping okay. DS (2 years, 8 months) still doesn't STTN and often climbs in with us in the middle of the night, and we could really use a king-sized bed with DH, DS, and me and my growing belly. I am using the Boppy Pregnancy Wedge that I also used with DS, and it is helpful.
We are putting a bid on a house tonight, and I am really hopeful that we'll get it. We currently live in a tiny 2BR/1BA townhome that we are quickly outgrowing; the new house has 4BR/3BA and a family room in addition to the living room, and a lot more space in general, so please cross your fingers for us. I happen to know that there are already two other offers on it and the bank (it's a bank-owned foreclosure that is in GREAT condition; it was just built in 2005) is taking offers from other people like us (aka, owner-occupants) through Monday (can't imagine they'll get too many offers after today with the holiday), so it's kind of a highest and best bidder thing. I'm hopeful but not counting my chickens! I am at work today and have to pack and tidy up when we get home, then we'll meet with our real estate agent to sign the offer and drive OOT for Christmas. Busy day!!! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah.

Sare Hoping for speedy time for you to get your results back.
Reenie Congrats on the girl! I'm high risk due to having Pre-E with both of my kiddos.
minor vent So apparently I stepped on some glass last night and had to go see my GP today. I had to get weighed and I'm not up 8 pounds. All in all, I know it's not a ton for 20 weeks, but I was overweight to start with and hoping to minimize my weight gain. I've never gained that much so early before (and I gained 35 with DD). It isn't even Christmas yet, so I'm not looking forward to getting on my OB's scale on Tuesday, since I need to stay off my foot for a few days.

I'm so excited to finally have it out in the open! (Even though I've basically been telling everyone I run into. LOL. And DD has told the world.
I had my 12 week u/s on Monday, where the midwife (I normally see someone else) said that the u/s was dating 8 days earlier than my due date. Since I was induced with the last 3 based on "size" (ended up 8.10 @39.6 wks, 8.12 @39 wks, & 8.10@39 wks), we'll see what happens this time. I'm actually kind've hoping that I'll "go on my own" this time.
weight- I've only gained about 3 lbs. Thank goodness! I've been trying really hard to watch what I eat, while still allowing myself craving foods.
sleeping- I sleep HORRIBLY! I just can't figure it out. I'm still able to sleep on my stomach, but I don't sleep well at all. So bad that I can barely stay awake with my 3 little ones in the am.
movement- Thinking I'm feeling tiny flutters, but not sure. I felt DD @ 18 wks, DS1 @ 13 weeks, and DS2 around 16 wks. Hopefully I'll start feeling more soon!
I declined all fetal testing because we will love this baby no matter what. My youngest sister was "predicted" to maybe have downs, and she absolutely does not and is in all honors and AP classes in her senior year of high school. She's one of the smartest people I know. So, no sense in spending a whole pregnancy worrying (I don't think negatively about anyone who does have the testing, it's totally a personal choice ;) )
I've been suffering from a migraine today. It's been pretty bad, coming along with dizziness and diarheah (sp??). But, I have to say I've only had 4 in 13 weeks, so that's a GREAT record for this pg. I had one a week with my boys, and about 2/month when I'm not pg. They started with DD (#1), and I've been prone to them ever since. I'll take a random migraine over daily nausea anyday! Though, there are definitely a few things that make me want to hurl (like the overwhelming smell of fried chicken!) DH took the big kids out shopping for my Christmas present, so I'm having a nice quiet night with my little man.

Renee congrats on your girl! And sending good thoughts on the house!
Foxyboo Super cute! I still haven't come out on FB and I am 18 weeks. I am the same with you on the testing.
Pookie I hope your foot is feeling better.
Sleep I sleep terrible. My kids all STTN so it's all on me. My DR said I could take Tylenol pm, but I haven't done it yet. Yesterday I was so tired from sleeping terrible that I went to bed at 7, I still woke up every hour but I am not as tired today.
Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm another one struggling with sleep. It's 3:15am and here I am!
It's been an interesting week for me. I pushed myself too hard I guess between 13 hr days at work (there are some pretty huge projects I need to get done by Jan. 1st) and trying to get ready for the holidays (we travel so no last minute shopping/wrapping for us). I had some light bleeding for 2 days starting on Wed. It was scary! Apparently that can happen with a low placenta and I got a hard reminder that I'm not super woman and when my midwife tells me to take it easy, she means it. Little man is fine though and the spotting stopped completely which has me relieved! Now that the preparations are done and we've made the trip to our home town, I'm going to try to take it easy and just enjoy the holiday. We aren't heading home until the 27th so I can definitely relax on the 26th.

Bumping this thread up!
How is everyone doing?
I made it through the holidays with only a few hiccups. MIL is very close with her sisters so she told them about my CVS and all anyone wanted to know was the results. I still don't know. I hope I find out this week, but I am still waiting.
The other thing is that DH's aunt (who was hosting) didn't plan the dinner very well. She had everyone come at 5:00, and there were two appetizers. Dinner wasn't served until 7:00. I was starving at that point, as was DD, who is 5. By the time we did the gift opening and dessert, we didn't get home until almost 10:30. We were all exhausted. DH and I are first ones with kids in our generation - everyone else in the family is over 16, and can stay up late.
Sleep- DH has been sleeping on the couch many nights so I can try to get more than a few hours at a time. Some nights I have been able to sleep with him in the bed, and some nights his snoring, even breathing, keeps me awake. I have to admit, he has been great.

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday for those of you who celebrate! And for those who don't, I hope you were able to just relax and have been feeling good!
Pookie - Sorry to hear about your foot! That totally stinks! As for the weight gain, I'm sorry to hear about that too. I'm up 6 pounds as of last week but I'm only 14w5d. But with DS, I gained 50 total and 10 at this point so I'm pretty pleased so far with my weight gain. I didn't have any morning sickness so my appetite has been pretty constant. The weight gain is always different for everyone and I'm convinced that each woman's body basically gains exactly what it needs to without much ability to change it significantly. I'll hope for a steady weight gain the rest of the time for you.
sare79 - It's so frustrating that people don't take little kids schedules into account. My family and DH's family have been really good about accomodating naps and bedtimes and little hungry tummies pretty good, but our friends aren't that great about it that don't have kids. It makes for such a long and cranky day for everyone.
R_mageddon - Glad to hear the spotting went away! It's so hard not to try to do everything that we're used to doing! Hope you enjoyed the time with family! A much deserved time off!
AFM, I pulled a muscle in my back a few weeks ago lifting my moose of a nephew (45 lbs) around when we celebrated Christmas with them. It's so frustrating and it just kept getting worse every day until I went to urgent care. Since I'm pregnant, I obviously can't take the Vicodin that they were going to prescribe me so she told me just to rest it and take Tylenol and use Thermacare wraps. And I could take Tylenol PM at night, which I totally did because my back was spasm-ing all night long leaving me with no sleep. After about a week, it started to feel a little better, but it's a good reminder that I need to take it a little easy. Lifting my son has been fine because he's a skinny-mini at only 32 pounds. And I think I'm used to lifting him.
We came out to our family and friends last week and it was fun. We posted a picture of us on Facebook with our DS in front of the Christmas tree holding the ultrasound and said that the Best Gift under our tree was Baby LastName #2!
I've also been getting some headaches lately which I recall from my son as well at about this point. In the last few days, though, I think it's tied to not eating after 2-3 hours. I am not a snacker so it's tough to remember and I don't feel hungry, but I think my headaches are definitely tied to not eating so I'm going to make a conscious effort to snack a little more, even if it's just a handful of almonds or dried fruit or something.
Sleep - I've gotten some pretty good sleep since my back feels better. That's been welcomed for sure. I get up once a night to use the restroom but it's straight back to sleep.
baby moving - I really think I'm feeling this baby now. I felt DS for sure at 15.5 weeks even though I had my suspicions that I felt it earlier. It's such a cool feeling!
maternity clothes - I'm still able to wear two pairs of jeans and a few other pairs with either the rubberband trick or a bella band. But I think I need to start to transition to maternity clothes. I hate how big they are still and look funny on right now, but my regular clothes also look funny. I'm tall so I don't have a pronounced bump yet so I'm in the terrible "in-between" phase. What are you girls doing with maternity clothes so far?

I feel like they will have more in common when they reach college age with only being 2.5 years apart too!!

Okay, totally gross topic, but does anyone have any ideas for constipation?? It is TERRIBLE with this pregnancy. With my son, it was the exact opposite. It is very painful at this point and I was hoping there were some quick food tricks. I have debated going to the Hibachi Grill tonight to see if that helps (always have stomach issues after I eat there...haha!!)

Congrats on your son! I have a feeling I'm on Team Blue as well, but we'll have to wait until spring. I hear you on the constipation. This is #3 for me and I've never had this before. For me, eating foods that I "digest" fast and uping my water helped. There is nothing worse than constipations.

Constipation: Ugh. I have no suggestions. Though having McDonalds with the boys yesterday helped a ton. I am trying to up my water though.
Contraxs: Anyone else feeling them already? I was on meds with my third child to stop contraxs at 32 weeks and I'm totally paranoid this time. I feel tightening around my stomach occasionally through the day. I try to sit down and get a drink and relax...but I would rather it just stop. I have doc appointment early next week so I'm going to bring it up then.
Beth: Congrats!! Boys are awesomely fun!

Quick post from my phone but the magic trick for constipation for me has been coffee. I was taking Colace daily, eating a ton of fiber, and drinking a ton of water, but once I started drinking coffee again it has worked wonders. My OB also suggested exercise and eating a whole apple every day before eating anything else. Good luck. I know how much it sucks!

Pookie - Boo hiss! I was on the Brethan last time around and I just have this sneaking suspicion it will happen again. I'm wondering if I'll have to go into the hospital again to get monitored or if he'll prescibe it based on my concerns...
Nesting: anyone else starting any ridiculous projects or is that just me? I get insane about now with organizing and cleaning and make work for my husband! LOL! We always seem to start some insane project. Last week, we redid our home office. It was in DESPERATE need. MUCH better now. And today, we drove to IKEA (an hour away) to buy Trofast storage units for the playroom. I'm half way done with that project. I hope to finish it sometime tomorrow or Wednesday.
Baby moving: Baby is totally moving and grooving. It's kinda a rolling motion and it keeps throwing me off because there is some similarity to the braxton hicks contractions and so I get worried. I'm trying to take it all in stride, one project finished before starting another one.

Congrats on your BOY, bethnjim.
Braxton Hicks Nope.
movement With the anterior placenta, I am not feeling as much as I did with DS. Definitely been feeling more in the past couple of days, which is reassuring. I am excited for DH and DS to be able to feel the movements, too, which they haven't yet.
constipation I would suggest trying to eat around 30 grams of fiber each day with lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains and making sure to drink lots of fluid (I think a good rule is to take your body weight and divide it by two and substitute oz. for pounds to see how much to drink. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you would drink 75 oz. of fluid each day). Original Fiber One cereal tastes okay, Kashi Go Lean Crunch is yummy, Flat Out Multigrain with Flax flatbreads are really good for sandwiches and they have TONS of fiber, and of course, if you need a sweet treat, the Fiber One granola bars are good, too (they are really just fiberized, glorified candy bars).
nesting/projects Yes! I made a list of things, we started buying a few things here and there, I got out my Ameda pump (which I decided I didn't like as well as my Medela pump) and cleaned and sterilized it, and I have it listed on eBay right now, I got out my Medela pump and threw out the tubing and one of the horns which somehow had mold in it (yuck), and ordered replacement tubing and a new horn along with two extra valves, some membranes, and the neat new Breastmilk storage labeling lids by Medela (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/medela-breastmilk-labeling-lids/ID=prod6063024-product?V=G&ext=frgl_Google_Baby,_Kids_&_Toys). If you need any Medela products, Walgreens.com is having a pretty good sale right now, actually. Done a few other things, too, but can't do TOO much besides buy things until I see if we'll be moving.
We did not get the house that we bid on. A cash-buyer ended up getting it. I understand, but I am disappointed because it was a perfect space for us. So the hunt for a new house continues.
I have also been reading up on breastfeeding to remind myself because, even after breastfeeding my son for 25+ months, I have forgotten a few things  . I am not sure exactly how that happens.
I am still on break from work until Monday, and I am glad for the time because I have been doing some cleaning/getting ready for baby things as I mentioned above. Going to get the upholstery cleaned on our couch, ottoman, and snuggle chair in the living room this week and I have a small mess in the basement to clean up from putting stuff away from the holidays, but other than that, our house is ship-shape because I tend to keep things tidy and organized anyway and also, I spent a good deal of time this summer cleaning/reorganizing/throwing stuff out in preparation for moving sometime soon and hoping for a second baby.
Happy New Year, ladies!
Happy New Year! Quick post to say we are Team Pink! U/S was perfectly normal and now all of a sudden I am feeling tons of movement...I've been so sick with a cough, cold and pink eye, so I had to give in and take Robitussin just to sleep....and had to get antibiotic drops for my pink eye....having major guilt about it but my OB assured me it was all perfectly safe.
SOOO happy to be having another girl!! Love the idea that my DD will have a sister, even if they will be 6 years apart. DH is excited too, I think he may have been secretly hoping for a boy but nevertheless he is very happy with the idea of "all his girls" ...
Hope everyone is feeling well.

Congratulations on your boy, bethnjim!
Congratulations on your girl, KB57!
I'm still waiting for the results. I called the genetic counsellor last week to find out a date I should know by because I'm feeling super anxious and she told me that because the amount of sample they got from me was minimal, they had to wait for it to double in size first. Normally that would take about 2 weeks, but mine needed to grow longer because they didn't have quite enough. I should know by next week, hopefully.
I'm trying not to stress out, but I coincidentally stumbled on an article about raising babies with hemophilia in a work RSS feed on something else, and I just feel really overwhelmed.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me this week (think pink).

Happy New Year to everyone! This is the year our babies will be born! :D
Sare79 - I am sure your wait is agonizing! I will be thinking pink for you!
KB57 - Congrats on another girl! I am (not-so) secretly hoping for a brother for my son so I know what you mean.
Reenie - That stinks about the house! Hopefully you will find something else just as perfect really soon!
Nesting - I think I am starting to get there. What will be the baby's room is just an empty plain room that's been storing all the junk we haven't figured out a place for yet since we moved about 8 months ago. My husband has to put some more decking down in the attic and we will move a bunch of stuff up there and then we will paint and set up the furniture. I have to get a new dresser for the baby since my son is keeping his, but I will be re-using his crib and glider and need some new accessories. I'm excited to decorate it!
Braxton-Hicks - I am struggling with distinguishing between the baby moving and BH. I read somewhere that if your belly feels like the tip of your nose it's not a contraction, but if it feels like your forehead then it is. Sometimes only half my belly is hard and I know then that it's just the baby. I remember thinking I was having BH with my son, but it was really just him stretching or getting in an awkward position. It definitely makes me nervous and paranoid when I think I'm having one.
Movement - Tons. You can already see it from the outside and my husband has been feeling it a lot. I keep trying to get my son to feel it but he has no patience. :P
My big ultrasound is on Thursday, but we aren't finding out the gender. I'm really excited to see the baby and how much it's grown and to know that (hopefully!) everything is well. My mom and husband are coming and we are bringing my son so we'll see if he cooperates/cares. If he doesn't, my mom will just take him out, but it should be fun!

Sare - Woohoo! I am sure that is such a relief for you!
I had my ultrasound yesterday (re-scheduled from Thursday because my OB was delivering a baby). Everything looked great. The baby is 1lb 3 oz and I've gained 9 lbs to date. The baby wouldn't show his/her face but we got some good shots of the hands and feet. My OB said the baby had "beautiful fingers" so I guess that's good! I forgot to ask what the heart rate was, but I'll ask at my next appointment. We are firmly on Team Green. My OB didn't even look during the ultrasound. She said as long as they see that the fluid levels look good and there is no obstruction in the bladder then there is no need to look at the genitals. I thought that was pretty cool. The baby was measuring a few days ahead but she kept my due date the same.
Things are chugging along here. I am getting hit with the urge to get the nursery ready NOW. We started to pre-organize the room (it's full of crap that doesn't have a place in our new house from our move 8 months ago) and picked out paint colors. We bought a dresser off of Craigslist and will paint it soon. I am modeling my nursery after this one (http://www.domesticadventure.com/2010/12/the-nursery-reveal/), and I am super excited to get started on it!
We had a fun night last night cheering my alma mater on to a National Championship! My baby was kicking up a storm during the game. Roll Tide!

Sare79 Congrats on you girl!
BH Yes, I have been having them, but less than with the other 3.
AFM We didn't find out the gender of our other kids, but DH wanted to find out this time in case he needed to freak out about having 3 girls in a row, and after 1 hour of the u/s, taking 3 trips to the bathroom, turning on my sides and tilting me back, we were finally able to find out we are having a BOY! My husband is relived, but we gave all of our boy stuff away and have to start over. We even have to get a new stroller. We have a pink and red one! The baby is breech and I have been feeling the kicks really low! Plus we don't have many boy names. We used family name with the other kids and feel that we should this time too, so I spent some time at work and came up with a few more choices:
Oliver (would have been DD2 name if she was a boy)
Patrick (DH hates it, but I love it!)
Elliot
Davis (Nephews Middle name)
Simon
Roger (my mom's brother and she wants us to use his name)
We don't want anything too popular but it has to go with my other kids names. Douglas, Margaret and Charlotte. It's such a weird feeling to know what we are having this time. I am not quite sure what to think.

Thanks Ferris and emjay!
Congrats on your boy Ferris!
AFM- I have been sneezing for a few days and woke up with a nasty cold this morning (well the middle of the night). I went out and bought supplies this morning from the grocery store- kleenex, saline spray for my nose, hand sanitizer, oj and automatically picked up Tylenol Cold Daytime and Nighttime combo pack.
I haven't taken it yet, but I did visit the safefetus site and it lists two of the ingredients as Class C, so I am deliberating not taking it and just giving it to my husband to use. Still not sure what to do, but I work with about 5 clinical pharmacists, so once they get into work I am going to bombard them for advice.
After leaving the grocery store and putting the cart away, my nose got really runny and a bit dripped down my throat, causing my gag reflex to go into over drive. I ended up throwing up in the parking lot! My whole breakfast smoothie on the parking lot! Ugh. I felt so embarassed and bad that I went back in the store and told them what happened and they said they would get someone to clean it up. The good news is, it didn't look like vomit, just a spilled smoothie, and it was super early in the morning so no one saw.
When is this morning sickness going to end?

Sare79 Yay for team pink! I am sure you must be feeling so relieved! Congrats. Hope you feel better soon!
emjay That is awesome that your DH has been able to feel the baby’s movements. My DH has felt one kick so far, and DS hasn’t felt any. I am not sure if I should try to let him feel or if it would freak him out (he is 2 years, 8 months). Glad your baby looked beautiful at the ultrasound. :D
Thank you, threadmistress (who is the threadmistress? LOL), for updating the genders.
Hi, Pookie and chiclady815. :)
Ferris Congrats on your boy! I admire and respect waiting until the baby’s born to find out the gender, but DH and I so loved knowing with DS that we decided to find out again. I am glad that we did. Your kids’ names are wonderful. I think Oliver and Elliot sound the best with your other kids’ names, but they are all nice.
AFM, just chugging along here. I started back to work Monday after being off for two weeks, and I have been SOOOOO sleepy. I have a prenatal checkup on Friday afternoon, and then she’ll schedule my GTT (I think for the following Saturday, so in about a week and a half). I have definitely been feeling the baby move a lot more now, and I feel like I look huge. I may have mentioned it, but I sold my Ameda pump on eBay and I redeemed some CC rewards points for a gift card, so I will be doing a little bit of baby shopping this weekend. I’ve been reviewing checklists and a book, and we picked out birth announcement (I know, way early). I also have been getting together my maternity leave binder for my sub who will be coming in (I know it’s not for a long time still, but I am a planner).
Hope everyone’s feeling well!

Had my 19 week appointment, got my ultrasound script. I just need to make the appointment. Baby's heartrate was 160 and that was about the end of the appointment. Oh, I have a lovely UTI too, so I'm on an antibiotic. First one since I was a senior in high school. Great luck I have! LOL! Just a quick drive by to say that everything i going well for us. Baby boy is growing and getting strong. He's definitely a mover and groover and is strong/big enough now that most movement is visible externally. Everything's measuring about 5-7 days ahead but our midwife hasn't moved our due date. She's super laid back though so I'm not surprised.
We're in hard core nursery mode and my mom & MIL are in hardcore shower mode. I've also picked out the nursery furniture that I like and we plan on placing the order very shortly.
I've put in my proposal for maternity leave. I'm not taking my full 50 weeks so I've put together a plan to come back part time until the new year.
We've got a bunch of appointments and busy stuff regarding the baby coming up too. I need a blood draw the week of Feb 1st to check for antibodies (I have O- blood) then the following week I have my next midwife appt as well as my Rhogam injection at the hospital. I'm going to see if we can schedule our pre-admission appointment for that day as well. After that, our midwife appointments are every 2 weeks. In about 6 weeks we'll be having another ultrasound to check on my low placenta. We want to attend a prenatal class in the middle of all of that as well.
On top of that we need to travel to our hometown at least once before the shower, then again for the shower & a wedding (same weekend).
All of this makes me realize that we're actually getting pretty close and that time is going to fly by! Soon we'll have our son in our arms...I hope we're ready LOL

HALF WAY POINT!! WAHOO!! (And yet, How????)
I just wanted to pop over and say we got our ultrasound scheduled for Monday Jan 23. I'm honestly scared to death. On one level, I just want to know the baby is okay and on the other level, if I'm truly honest with myself, finding out the gender is scaring me. I will say I want another boy, but my heart yearns for a girl. And I have a feeling this is a boy. I don't want to go any further with that thought, but it's the truth.
Pookie

Lady I have one of each and I'll still say gender is hard. It does sound like you'd like a boy or a girl, though. I have a definite preference as well, but I'm trying to calm myself by thinking that God will give us what is perfect for our family. That and it does seem to be "boy season." I've always followed the "trend." lol We're having a surprise this time, though.
R maggedon Time does fly, especially at the end. The third trimester can be slow. The second goes faster and the third just speeds by. Do you have to put in your work proposal now, though? My big advice would be to wait to have the baby and see how you feel, especially for a first baby.
Ferris Have you narrowed down your list? My favorite's are Patrick or Davis.
names Has anyone come up with anything definite? Our boy name is James Philip. We got married at St. Philip's church, so that's where the middle name comes from. We don't have a girl name yet, but I think it's a boy anyways. For a girl, my first choice is Isabella. However DD is already Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Isabella are the same name in different languages, so I don't know if we can use it. DH likes Gabriella, but I'm not totally sold yet. I also like Sophia, nn Sophy. The middle name would either be Faith or Hope.

[B]Ferris[/B We have a 4 bedroom house. It's going to be tight since the 4th doubles as a study/ guest room. I'm thinking initially the baby will be in our room. Then we'll leave the futon and condense the playroom into half office/ playroom. Eventually we'll move, but hopefully that will work for the time being.
Anyone else out of breath yet? I know I'm due at the beginning of the thread (24 weeks), but I could barely move at Zumba tonight. I have a feeling this baby is going to be MUCH bigger than the others.

20 weeks and 5 days!
L&L- CONGRATS!!!!
Pookie- Oh my, yes. I told hubby that these kids have rearranged my insides. I feel like the fat (I'm overweight by about 50 pounds) is all shifting up into my chest and if I don't sit JUST right, I can't breath. I'll be in BIG trouble once this baby gets huge!
Ferris: We're on #4. Mine are all boys, (well, we'll know if this one is too on Monday) and #1 and 2 share a bedroom already. If this baby is a boy, then he and #3 will share a room. If it's a girl, then #3 and 4 will share a room until it seems time to switch things up or the boys ask to sleep together then it will be a room switching insane weekend of bed rotating. We have technically a 4 bedroom house, but we remodledone bedroom into a suite office/bedroom for us. We also have a full attic that we can at some point utilize, but code requires us to put in a fire escape if we use it as a bedroom so that will be later. So, the plan for now is regardless of gender, two will share rooms. The baby will be in our bedroom for awhile anyhow. We are probably going to side car the crib to our bed and put a dresser in our room. So realistically, #1 and 2 will share a room, #3 is still in the nursery and #4 will be with us for 6-12 months.

I've been following along and owe an update. I'll get to it. I promise!
So I'm cheating. My gender ultrasound at the ob is feb 6, but I made an appointment for Saturday at a local keepsake ultrasound place for a gender check. I have control issues. Lol.

Congrats L&L on your girl!
Pookie - I am right behind you and am totally out of breath. I am pretty sure I've been having a good bit of BH (at least I think that's what they are). I called my OB about it because it seems like it's been happening a ton. They checked my urine to rule out a UTI (it was clear) and chalked it up to a growth spurt. There is no consistency to it, but man is it annoying. Baby moves a ton when I'm not getting BH so it's a constant awareness of something. It can be very tiring! I've only gained 10 lbs to date but I feel like it's about 110. I'm nervous for what's to come!
Fenway - That's exciting! I saw where you posted in the Confessions thread about getting a webcam video monitor. We are seriously considering a dual setup like this when the baby comes. How are you liking it? I checked out the demo on the Foscam website but my main concern is that I have to have my phone or laptop on all night right next to my bed. Is that how it works for you?
names - I think we've 99% narrowed it down. We are big on keeping names and gender a surprise so we'll see which one we get to use!

R maggedon Time does fly, especially at the end. The third trimester can be slow. The second goes faster and the third just speeds by. Do you have to put in your work proposal now, though? My big advice would be to wait to have the baby and see how you feel, especially for a first baby.
names Has anyone come up with anything definite? Our boy name is James Philip. We got married at St. Philip's church, so that's where the middle name comes from. We don't have a girl name yet, but I think it's a boy anyways. For a girl, my first choice is Isabella. However DD is already Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Isabella are the same name in different languages, so I don't know if we can use it. DH likes Gabriella, but I'm not totally sold yet. I also like Sophia, nn Sophy. The middle name would either be Faith or Hope.
Yeah...since I'm choosing an unconventional return to work pattern and my position is relatively pivotal in our company, my employer needs to know my plans. I feel comfortable with the proposal and know that no matter how I work it, leaving my son will be hard. Luckily I work in a great company that values my loyalty and believes in work/life balance.
As for names, we, of course know that we're having a boy so we have a solid boy name. We did have both our boy name and girl name picked before we knew though.

I love it so far. It was a little complicated to set up though. We are fairly tech savvy people, but we needed someone to come in and get it running.
The app I'm using on my iPhone runs the sound in the background. It drains the battery like crazy, but I use an iHome alarm clock, so during the overnight hours the battery isn't an issue. For naps I'll either set up my laptop or plug in my phone. I wish we went with this option from the beginning. Our traditional monitor (Graco, IIRC) has been a big disappointment. One of the parent units won't work at all anymore and the other only has a 30 minute battery life, if that. The stupid thing is only 16 months old. The webcam option wasn't much more $$, even including setup, and I think we are getting way more use out of it. DH works OOT and loves checking in on her. We're keeping it set up until DD goes to college. ;)

Thanks for the info Fenway! My husband works in IT and got it all figured out using the demo and some app he downloaded. Which app are you using? I have an iHome too and figured that's what I'd probably use but my FB notifications and texts don't ding through the iHome speaker so maybe I have to change a setting to be able to hear the noise from the app? I'm sure my husband can figure it out. We have a Summer video monitor that we've used since he was born and I love being able to see him, but that monitor is dying a slow death. Based on what we saw w/ the web demo and logging into the web demo from the app, the video quality is a ton better, plus you can pan across the room, etc. It will be cheaper and better to get two of these than a new double monitor setup. I'm pumped!

The sound doesn't come through the iHome, just the phone. I plug it in for battery life. What app did your husband find? We're using Baby Monitor Foscam. The computer program doesn't work well with Mac, as an FYI. In order to get audio you need an additional plugin, which doesn't work that well. If you run macs that's something to think about. I'm sure there's aftermarket software that would work. I'll eventually try to find something, but I have no idea where to start.

Ah, that makes sense. The demo has stagnant noise in the background and it's really hard to hear as is so I figured if I tested it on my iHome I would hardly be able to hear it. The app he found is called CamViewer. I'll download the Foscam one tonight and test it out. We don't have any Mac computers so that shouldn't be an issue for us. Did you buy a wall mount for the camera as well? Our current camera is mounted to the wall but I will be able to put a new camera anywhere in the room to see my son now since he's in a regular bed. For the baby, I will have to have it up high so I can see down into the crib.
