I love to x-stitch but I usually only do it in the winter while Dh is planted in front of the TV all day watching football. I usually stick with smaller projects like onesies. They're usually a big hit as gifts. (the baby's last name is Gratzer)

This next craft won't impress anybody else but me but I thought I'd post it here anyway. I just taught myself to sew and I've made two curtains thus far.

I'd love to see other projects if you'd like to share...I need inspiration! :D

Wow Gayle! Those are awesome! You are very talented! How did you get started with such a craft?

Thanks Shannon. I just sort of fell into it actually.

I have always loved dolls, and I had this image in my head that I wanted a 1920's bride doll. I couldn't find one that looked like what I imagined so I thought to mself, heck, I paint, I sew, I'll make one:)

4 years later it's actually become a booming little homebased business.

I am having the time of my life actually :)

Well good for you! I've always admired people that take a idea and bring it to life...and the fact that you've made it business is a double bonus!

ShannonGH, I love the onsie, and I am impressed with the curtains. I am teaching myself to sew as well. I got myself a sewing machine for Christmas (from DH) and have been trying to learn. I made a curtain and a few pillows for my office. I need to take some pictures of them.

Gayle, I have seen some of your dolls on your WC journal. (I am a big time lurker, and yours was one I checked often. :o ) They are really amazing, it seems like you put so much work into them and your love for it really shows in the end result.

My latest hobby was really a result of the WC. When I became PG I noticed so many nurseries were decorated with hanging letters of the child's name. I really liked the idea & wanted to have customized ones. I made letters for my daughter's room and before I knew it many family members, friends and girls of the WC wanted me to make some for them. I have such a good time making these and they are all different. I have actually just recently created a web site to sell them. Here are a few I have done for the WC gals.

To all of you cross-stitchers, quilters, knitters, and crocheters: I truly appreciate all the work you put into your projects!! It's all so pretty, but I just don't have the patience for any of them. I feel it takes a special person to do those specific crafts. :D

polkadot~
Gee, you're making me blush. :p Be my guest! Feel free to copy any of those cakes. Actually, I copied the Sleepover cake from a website. Although I can't remember which one. It's a regular 9x11. The "pillows" are marshmallows that are smashed down a bit. The "heads" are vanilla wafers. The "eyes" are tiny sweet tart type candies. The "bodies" are indeed twinkies. The trim on the blanket is a fruit roll up that I cut to be narrower.

Jewelry is my latest passion! I love making jewelry, as it's instant gratification - which is necessary for me to complete any project. ;)

jlp, your cakes are sooooo cute. I have zero skill there at all.

jlp
06-30-2005, 08:26 AM
Thank you. :)

I don't know how much skill is involved. :p I just use a lot of imagination. The best part is browsing the candy aisle for just the right decorations.

p.s. I've been a long-time admirer of your dolls. I remember seeing them from time-to-time at the WC. Now those are pure imagination! ;)

I'm rather proud of the afghan I crocheted for a friend's wedding recently:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v336/kjparker/Crafts/th_8559d679.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v336/kjparker/Crafts/8559d679.jpg)
(Click on the thumbnail for a full-size picture)

It took me quite a while, but it was done in panels, so that made it easier since each panel could be finished fairly quickly and that gave me the quick gratification I often need.

I'm currently working on a crocheted shawl and a knit sock, but neither is finished yet. It will get done eventually, though. :)

You can see more photos of my crafts in my Craft Photo Album (http://photobucket.com/albums/v336/kjparker/Crafts/?action=view&slideshow=true).

thanks Tara. :) I checked out your website and I love the letters you make for nursery walls. I'll be keeping you in mind when I get PG.

yes, I've made other jewelry. Some of it is posted in the Beads and Beading thread here. I just started making jewelry last Fall. I started out teaching myself using some books I bought at Micheal's and then I found a Bead shop near me that offered classes. The classes helped a lot b/c I wasn't really doing things the right way. I found the shop by me just by googling "bead shops."
