I love this show on the Food Network. Giada's recipes are so simple and elegant and they look so good that I've been wanting to try some of them for a while now but haven't had the time.
I thought this would be a good thread to discuss this show and any recipes from it you've tried.
I love Giada and her show!! I got her cookbook for my birthday but haven't tried any recipes yet. But, I can't wait, as everything she makes looks soooo good on the show! :)
I love her! I make her chicken parmasan all the time because it's so quicky, and friendly to my low carb diet because it's unbreaded. I also love her orricette(spelling?) with toasted breadcrumbs. It's so good but not friendly to my diet!
She made this, Wicked Hot Chocolate Mousse (http://foodtv.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_28337,00.html), yesterday. The recipe makes it looked complicated, but she made it seem very simple. And very good!!

I've made a few of her things. I follow the show and her cookbook. The last thing I made were these rasberry dream cupcakes. The next thing I want to try is: Olive Oil Almond Citrus Cake.

I dig Giada, AND she was a sweetheart at her booksigning.
I think I've made about half of the recipes in her book, I love her raspberry tiramisu, chicken parm, the white bean pita dip is a hit whenever we have people over, salmon baked in foil, checca sauce, etc.

I just love Giada, and watch her show almost everyday. Her recipes are easy, and the ones I've tried, delicious. Some of what I've made are the zuccotto, salmon in foil, checca sauce, eggplant rollatini, and the sun-dried tomato pesto. Funny pontmarie because I was just talking about her raspberry tiramisu with DH last night. It looks yummy, and I'm dying to try it out.

I LOVE Giada! I am so not a cook, but my sister is actually a chef at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando. She's in charge of the brunch menu at their Vineyard Restaurant and will pull from Giada's recipies sometimes. SO GOOD!!
I've made the shrimp fra diavolo. It's yummy, but too spicy for my DH.
I made the chicken tetrazzini, which was a pain to make, and to top it off, it wasn't all that good IMO.

The show kind of bugs me, to tell the truth, but I have a few of her recipes which are old standbys - there's a recipe for Panzanella (a Tuscan bread and tomato salad) that I make all the time in the summer.

Just out of curiosity, what is it about the show that bugs you? The reason I ask is because the first couple of times I saw it, I was kind of put off by how "artsy" the videography was. I didn't feel like a cooking show. But the more I watched it, the more I appreciated the style and I love how close the camera gets to all that delicious food! :D

Mostly the personality of Giada. A lot of TV chefs really bug me, actually -- her smiles seem really fake to me. Like she's not authentically excited about the food. And also? She's so skinny I found it difficult to believe she was making all that fattening food and enjoying it. I've gotten more used to it, though. And she's not as bad as Rachel Ray.

LOL. I've thought the same thing.

Ha ha! Well, I guess her smile does seem a bit on the fake side. I think they told her to tone it down though because I've noticed on some of her shows she doesn't smile nearly as much as in other shows. Maybe it was for that very reason.
But you're right, she doesn't annoy me NEARLY as much as Rachel Ray does. RR thinks she's so funny and laughs at all her stupid jokes and I just want to say, "Oh for Lord's sake, SHUT UP!!!" But I do like some of the stuff she makes so I watch her anyway. :p
Giada has big hair which makes her head look too big for her body.
I turned it on while I was getting ready and she was making these mini shrimp calzones. They look so good. Anyone try them? Mini Shrimp Calzones (http://foodtv.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_31519,00.html)

I recently made these Mascarpone and Dark Chocolate Cream in White Chocolate Cups (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_32983,00.html) and her Chocolate-Hazelnut Ravioli (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_32984,00.html).
Both were good. I thought the white chocolate was a little overpowering and I would prefer milk or semi-sweet chocolate instead (but I'm not a huge fan of white chocolate anyway). But a tip, don't add cold mascarpone to the melted chocolate, it makes it seize up. After the fact that was obvious but I still did it (I was able to save it by slightly warming the whole mixture over a double-boiler).
I highly recommend the chocolate-hazelnut ravioli. Literally you just need Nutella and wonton wrappers. It was really easy and so, so tastey.
I've made others, but those are the most recent. I agree about her fake smile and her extreme looks of pleasure when she tastes her food. But maybe that's because she never eats?

Oh, I made the chocolate hazelnut ravioli the other night. So easy and very yummy!
I made her Chicken Saltimbocca (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_26144,00.html) last week. It turned out really great and wasn't hard at all. The toothpicks holding it together while cooking were a PITA to deal with but very easy other than that.

I was just trying to find the recipe b/c I couldn't remember the name. For the last 6 years DH has asked for stuffed chicken parm for his birthday. This year he asked for this. You know that you have a great recipe when an italian boy who won't eat anything but chicken parm asks for this dish!
I also love her pork chops ala piazzola and those raspberry cupcakes.

My thoughts EXACTLY Bouche! LOL I have gotten more used to Giada, I guess, but only because I make myself since she makes some really delicious-looking dishes. The Baked Mashed Potatoes with Parmesan and Bread Crumbs (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_32174,00.html) are to DIE for. Sunday I am trying her fettuccini alfredo (or Emeril's-hers has lemon juice, which Im not to sure about) and later this month I am going to try her chicken parm recipe later this month :)

I have gotten more used to Giada, I guess, but only because I make myself since she makes some really delicious-looking dishes. It was the same for me in the beginning. She annoyed me to no end, but I watched the show because everything she made looked sooooooooo good. Now I actually like her. I think some of her shows she's more annoying than others, but I think it's mostly because I'm watching her so much that she's grown on me. Same with Rachael Ray. That girl annoyed the crap outta me at first but now I actually enjoy her.

I'm surprised that I'm just now finding this thread! I love Giada and the Everyday Italian cookbook. We probably make something out of it once a week.
We've mostly make various pasta dishes that contain no sauce and some kind of sausage and vegetable. The lemon/parma angel hair pasta turned out to be sooo good as well. They also make good leftovers.
This week for lunch I've been making the toasted ciabatta bread and nutella sandwiches (I add cut up bananas too) - they are so good! Nutella is my new favorite thing. :D

I love the Everyday Italian cookbook. I don't watch the show very often though.
I've made the pork milanese, chicken saltimbocca and the roasted baby potatoes with herbs and garlic. They were all super easy, especially the potatoes! Yummy!!! The next one I'm going to try is the spaghetti and clams (ack, i'm sick right now and that sounds so disgusting!)

A question for other lasagna rolls makers/lovers, do you think that making the rolls ahead of time and freezing them? I don't think the bechamel sauce would freeze well so I imagine it would be without the sauces but was curious on what others thought?

I have had very good luck freezing the barilla lasagne noodles. I make my own version of lasagne rolls, not sure what is in Giada's version, but I actually spread a little bechamel sauce inside the rolls, and have never had a problem. I flash freeze them on a cookie sheet, then I vac seal them.

Her lasagna rolls and chicken saltimbocca are both delicious. I also watched her story on Chefography. Being from an Italian family, I could relate to a lot about her life (big family dinners, being somewhat isolated with my siblings as my playmates) but most especially sitting down to a family dinner and having the topic of conversation being what we were going to eat at the next meal! :)

Is this is?
Creamy Farfalle with Cremini, Asparagus, and Walnuts
Salt
1 pound farfalle pasta
3 tablespoons butter
1 pound cremini mushrooms, thickly sliced
1 pound thin asparagus, trimmed, cut crosswise into 1-inch pieces
1 cup mascarpone cheese
Pinch freshly grated nutmeg
3/4 cup walnuts, toasted
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the farfalle and cook until al dente, stirring occasionally, about 12 minutes. Drain, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and saute until tender and most of the juices have evaporated, about 5 minutes. Add the asparagus and saute until the asparagus is crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Add the farfalle. Stir in the mascarpone and nutmeg and toss until the cheese coats the pasta, adding the reserved cooking liquid 1/4 cup at a time to moisten. Stir in 1/2 cup of walnuts. Season the pasta, to taste, with salt and pepper. Mound the pasta in a large bowl. Sprinkle with the Parmesan and remaining 1/4 cup of walnuts. Serve.

I made the Chocolate Hazelnut Tart (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_33308,00.html) from the Afternoon dessert episode on Saturday.
It comes out very much like pecan pie with chocolate. I would have preferred less nuts and more chocolate so I will probably make that change next time.
It's a quick throw together dessert but takes an hour to bake.
