So last Friday was my most recent ob appointment. I got to talk with my doctor for the first time since our ultrasound showed dilated ureters (technical term is bilateral pyelectasis). She really eased my mind a lot...assured me that it is nothing to worry about and may even be normal for my baby. I also mentioned how the other doctor said that it could be a boy because this condition is more common in boys than girls. I asked about that possibility because we definitely saw three lines on the ultrasound. My doctor got a funny look on her face and said she's seen several girls with this condition and that the u/s is 98% accurate and that she was certain we would be having a girl. She said we could take another peek at my 28 week u/s, though. We also determined that I have been having contractions. She said this is normal but to call her if I have any blood. We decided that is probably what the odd pain that I've had is. A mixture of that and RLP...

I forgot to post this earlier but Dh and I have talked about names a little bit more. As of now, we have it narrowed down to 2 names...Olivia Paige or Madison Paige. That's quite a change for us because as of last week, we had about 10 names on our potential list. We just started crossing off ones that either I didn't like or he didn't like...it's progress at least!

I LOVE those names Tiger! Especially Olivia! My friends' first daughter is Olivia and she's the cutest little thing. I guess there is a children's book about Olivia the Ballerina and they always read that book to her. Too cute!
I'm HERE!!!!
I just couldn't stand WC anymore. As much as I don't want to see our group break up, I just can't handle it :eek:

lml - Glad the doctor put your mind at ease about the dilated ureters. Contractions!! Wowser, did the doctor think they were the actual deal or BH?
LDS - So glad you posted. I hope you and DH are healing after your loss. I hope you keep following along and keeping us updated on you.
Tiger - Oh, I so love both those girl names. I brought them up with DH a while back and he vetoed them! :(
A big hello to everyone else who has made the switch over to WC. In my own selfish way, I would love to see everyone who was on WC move over here, but I know that might not happen, so for now I'm going to try and do my best at keeping up with the different boards.
Testing to see if I have a sig yet.
lml If you need help with this board, just let me know. I don't mind helping with both WC and CC.

Hey Girls!

So, how is everyone feeling?
Overall-I've been feeling pretty good but my back is starting to hurt. UGGG, I've been going to the chiropractor every week or every other week depending on how often I can get in and also getting a massage about 3 times a month. I LOVE it! My sacrialiac has been hurting and the chiro said it's definitely tight.
Weight Gain-I suck-I'm up 20 lbs pre-pregnancy :eek: At this rate of a lb a week I'll definitely hit the 35 lb mark. I just can't believe it, but I guess my body needs it...so I'm trying not to stress too much.
4D U/S-I think DH and I are going to do it. It's around $160 but I haven't had to pay a dime for any of my other appointments so I feel like it's money well spent. FYI-the lady at the U/S place said between 28 weeks-32 weeks is the best time to come and 28-29 is the ultimate because at 32 the baby could already be so scrunched that their legs could cover their face....
nursery-Again, I suck. Not much going on here. We got rid of all the furniture on there so it's empty and the bedding is supposed to be here tomorrow! Yipppee! The extra fabric I ordered for the chandelier and tablecloth are here too. I think this weekend we'll go get the paint and I might even start painting. DH and friend are going to put up the chair rail on the 22nd when I'm out of town for a Bachelorette Party. Hopefully the furniture wil be in the beginning of August and then I'll just have to wait until the end of August to get the chandelier and hire an electrician in September to go through the attic and put it up....so even though nothing is really done yet I feel like we have a good plan in place...
That's about it on our front. I would love to hear a breakdown of pregnancy life for all you gals!
Here's a pic from a wedding this weekend...don't know why my eyes are closed. You'd think I was drunk!
http://www.shutterfly.com/jsp/proceserv.jsp?uid=8AcNnLlq3bMw&rostate=67b0de21b99bf1b4a439&co=-1&js=1119981481202&ps=1&rs=6
Back from the doctor and all is well! Started scheduling my 2 week appointments, that totally blows my mind :D I cannot believe we are this far along already. I'll just borrow Lex's titles:
Overall: I feel good, the heat is a pain but it is supposed to get better by the weekend. I'm really uncomfortable after I eat meals, so I'm trying to eat 6 smaller meals instead of 3 bigger ones. My leg cramps stopped since I've been taking calcium each day.
Weight gain: I put on another 3, so I'm up 12.5 total. Not bad thus far, I just hope it all stays in my belly area.
4d u/s: We aren't doing it, just really no desire on my part.
Nursery: We got it painted last month, the crib has been on order, and we pick up the dresser in July at my parent's house. I've started the glider research and will decide within a month. We need to rent a storage space for everything extra which is top of my to do list, and organize the closests. I believe we have finalized the bedding choice, but need to order it. My biggest stress right now if beginning the daycare search, but since I'm 99% sure I'll be working 3/10 hour days now I at least know what to look for.
Peds: When is the best time to start thinking about one of these?
Better try to get some work done today........ ;)

overall the heat is starting to bug me. i took stella to the park today and i had to sit down a couple of times because i was hot and kinda dizzy. but its supposed to cool off a bit and at least not be so humid. otherwise i feel great.
weight gain last pg i gained a ton of weight. this time it hasnt been *quite* as bad, but at my last appt i had gained 8 pounds (since the previous appt) and that freaked me out. i have to go on a "diet" anyway to try and prevent The Boy from having his sisters allergies so im assuming that will help keep my weight gain in check. too bad i keep procrastinating on starting this diet. :p
4d u/s we did it last time and i would love to do it again. it was amazing to have a dvd of stella moving around and playing around and it was so cool to have a picture of her before she was born. right now its a matter of having the $ to do it.
nursery well i still have to get a mattress for The Boy's crib and some bedding and stuff but since he and stella are sharing a room its pretty much done. i just have to get some of my things out of the dresser so his clothes can go in there. we may or may not be moving before he is born so im not in any hurry to get things done right away.
eta:
peds id start thinking about it now, and maybe ask at your next ob appt who they recommend. my ob had a list and i asked if she could recommend one or two. she did, i did some internet searching (found very little), interviewed one and decided he was the right dr for us.

I'm making the move!!! :D
Overall - feeling pretty good, still very tired a lot, not sure if it's from the heat or from the Anemia... I failed the 1 hour GTT so I have to do the 3 hour on Thursday not very happy about that. My Dr's apt went well on Friday, The Boy's HB is 143, right where it's supposed to be (Nancy I love that we're both giving our son's a title "The Boy" LOL!)
Weight GainI did gain weight - I could say finally, but I gained too much in one month!!! 9 pounds!!! 4 of those pounds bring me up to pre-PG weight, so total over all weight gain is 5 pounds, but that number only makes me feel a little bit better about a 9 pound gain in one month!!! :eek:
4D U/S Don't know if there's a place to do one in my Poo-dunk town, and even if I could, I kinda like the mystery of not knowing what The Boy's features are until birth... :D
Nursery Haven't done too much to it. We have the crib (no matteress or bedding yet) and we have the dresser/changing table. Other then that, I think we're waitting until after some of our showers to see what we'll need to fill in on the nursery. I'm pretty laid back about it, I'm more antsy to come up with a name for our son!!!

I've been having sharper pains all day. They aren't crampy, so I doubt it's BH contractions. It's more like a line running from my public area to about my belly button.
Any ideas?
Overall I feel great! :D I have the ocassional sciatic nerve problem and I still feel tired. The heat and humidity is a pain in the butt, but now that we got an AC unit last week, I am in heaven! I have noticed that my center-of-gravity is starting to take effect.
Weight Gain Ughh. I eat all the time. The scales say I have gained 12lbs. But we'll see what the doctor says on Friday. Although I get the comment "you are all baby". So I hope that's good.
4D u/s Not doing it.
Nursery The baby's bedding will be here tomorrow :D :D DH is hoping to have our master bed/bath done by the end of July. Then August start the baby's room! Hoping we can get the crib sometime next month. My mom and I are going to refinish a dresser that I grew up with.

does it happen while you are walking around or sitting down? i get super sharp pain on my lower belly sometimes when im walking. which sucks because my dr told me to walk to help manage my weight gain. if thats what you are getting then it seems to be normal, i had it with my 1st pg too. :) i also seem to recall getting those sharp pains and having it just basically be "growing pains". things stretch, and i guess it hurts. sometimes ill turn a certain way or OMG sometimes when i sneeze it feels like my appendix bursts. happened last time too. but if its happening while you are being totally still and resting and while you are well-hydrated then id maybe call the dr.

I too am getting those sharp pains.
I was on a walk at lunch with a co-worker and that's when it happened. In my lower right abdomen. It really hurt and it wasn't round ligament or BH...very strange. I don't like that feeling!
Welcome ladies! I love that so many are making the jump.
adoredh-I mentioned it on LJ but have you thought of bringing a laptop with a movie to keep you busy?

Overall I am feeling pretty good. Besides the occassional ankle swelling and back pain by the end of the day, I am doing pretty good. I bent down to pick something up last night and I think I stretched something because my right side has been hurting all day.
Weight gain As of my last appt, I had gained 18 lbs since pre-pregnancy. I am another one who is going to be at the high-end of the 25-35 lbs my dr. says I should gain.
4D u/s I would like to be able to do it but it isn't offered here in my little town. So, I guess we will be waiting until Oct. to see our little one's features!
Nursery We haven't done anything so far and it is really starting to stress me out. I think we will wait until after our shower before we really start buying stuff.
Has anyone bought coming home outfits for their little one's yet? I am just wondering what size we shoudl get for that.
ETA - Lex...those sound exactly like my pains in my lower right abdomen. I thought I just stretched something wrong but I don't know now.

My pain is when I'm sitting down.
I've had sharp pain in my lower right side when I walk around, but that's constipation. This is totally different. I'm wondering if it's a UTI.

Overall - I am feeling better. Got sick on Sunday night, but that was really the first time in awhile. *knock on wood* I think the Tagamet with the Zofran is helping a lot. Right now I'm just in misery because the dentist finished my root canal today. She just has to put on the permanent crown. Near the end of my appointment, the lidocaine wore off and I felt it all. She asked if I wanted more anesthesia and I said, "No. I just want to get it done." It hurt like a mother, but I made it through no worse for the wear. Maybe I *will* be able to handle natural childbirth. ;)
Weight gain - Yup gained. ;) About 13 or 14 pounds.
4D U/S - Planning on it. We'll see. I have a regular u/s at my 28 week mark, so we may not bother.
Nursery - The painting is done and the crib is ordered. MIL claims to be working on the bedding. That's it so far.
***
jenjen, She said they're "practice contractions," in other words, BH. She told me not to worry unless I see blood.
cj, I added you to the mod list. The username and password are the same as before. Also, if you need to log onto WC, the email address I used to register is october2005moms@gmail.com and the password is the same password as for the boards.
LexyLou, yeah...I'm planning to get a 3d U/S, too. It is supposed to be my mother's day gift, but I might change my mind and substitute something else. ;) Even though I get an extra peek at 28 weeks, I'm planning to go at 29 or 30 weeks to another place to get it done... I wouldn't worry about the weight gain too much. You are a self-proclaimed gym-junkie, so you'll get it off soon, I'm sure. ;)
EJM, if you go to your health insurance company's website and print off a list of providers in your plan for the hospital you want, your doctor ought to review it with you and give recommendations.
nancy drew, I hear you on the heat. It is supposed to hit 100 all this week, I think.
adoreDH, sorry about the failed 1-hour. Good luck on the 3-hour. :(
jh124, that pain is very similar to what I was feeling. My doctor said it was a combo of RLP and BH. Does it burn when you pee? If so, you might have a UTI. I'd call the doctor to ease your fears (of course, I'm one to suggest that since I put off asking about it until my appointment).
Tiger, I haven't bought a coming-home outfit because I wanted to wait until my shower to see if we get anything cute. Plus...I have no idea what to get weather-wise.

wow!!! look at how many people have moved...I'm going to try to keep up with WC and CC but since I am not that good at keeping up with one thread this could get interesting.
My class is on a week long program in Old Town this week where they learn about CA history through "outdoor classrooms" It is such an amzing program and they absolutely love it. so while I am not teaching I have "professional development" all day long..of course then we go to lunch and eat way TOO MUCH yummy Mexican food, I cannot stop eating chips and salsa :)
overall I'm feeling way better than the first 14 weeks, I feel like i am human again. I have been getting wierd sharp cramp like things like so many of you...I am feeling the heat..Is anyone oelse drinking way more water than they used to ..I can't get enough. This little girl is kickingup a storm, but it is so low down because she is booty down...Tony finally felt her kick the other night. Every night he talks to her about his day and has his heand on my stomach..well the other night she "talked back". Of course I started to cry
weight gain yeah..at of my last appt I hd gained 7 pounds, however since that appointment I have gained 3 more...I am looking at 5 pounds a month right now...
4D US I don't think that we'll be getting one as I am getting more US at the docotrs because she is booty down (can you tell I don't like saying breech)
nursery I am not going to start on this until August since I will finish teaching the end of July and then we are going to SF for 4 days to visit Tony's sister. We are planning on pretty neutral colors, celadon green, white, off white and natural furniture with pink accents of course ;) However we NEED to get the closet done, when we bought the hosue the owners had gutted all of the closets so there is nothing but a HUGE pile of boxes inside..
I just want to say "hi" to everyone..I am sorry I am jsut too tired to do shout outs..Have a great night

Next appt & glucose test: July 12th
Weight gain - At my last appt I was at 12 lbs total gain.....according to my scale at home I'm probably at 14 lbs now.
Nursery - So far we've done absolutely nothing! I have family coming to visit in a couple of weeks so I had to keep the guest room as it is. As soon as they leave we'll start painting and putting up picture rail. We're doing sage & yellow w/ pale blue accents and white trim & furniture. I can't wait to get started! Our co-ed shower is at our house on Aug. 20th and I'm sure people will want to see it so I've got a good month or so to get stuff done after the family leaves.
4D U/S - We haven't decided yet. We'd love to do it....we're just not sure if we'll feel rich enough to afford it. If we do, it'll be in August sometime. We just found some property we'd like to buy and if we go ahead with it, we'll have to be good little budgeters for a couple of months before maternity leave.
Overall - I'm feeling great! The last several weeks have been awesome. I've loved feeling my normal self w/ the added bonus of feeling the baby play most of the day and having a cute little belly. How awesome it's been to not have to worry about my diet as much as I normally do and to stick my belly out w/o any care! ;) Things are starting to shift though and I'm a little nervous of feeling so uncomfortable in the last trimester.
Have a great night ladies!

Overall I'm feeling pretty good. Some tailbone pain after sitting for too long. And some lower back pain, but nothing I can't live with yet. Luke has been kicking up a storm, last night I actually saw an arm or a leg move across my belly. That was cool. Can't believe we're almost to the third trimester!
Weight Gain I was at 145 this morning. My doctor's office has my pre-pregnancy weight at 132, so that's a weight gain of 13 pounds overall. But I lost weight at the beginning, so I've really put on about 20 pounds. :eek: Whatever's best for the baby, right?
4D U/S We won't be doing one. We were amazed with what we saw on the level II, and don't see the use in paying so much for another ultrasound.
Nursery The bedding and accessories came in last night, so it's coming together. We've got to go pick up the dresser/changer combo, and hang pictures and curtains. And then get some miscellaneous stuff, and it'll be done!
Good Book Harry Potter 6 is coming out July 17th for anyone who's interested in those. ;)
25 week belly shots!

I'd been feeling great. My sweet boy has been moving a ton. Now, i actually feel him in multiple spots, used to be just one spot. i'm thinking either he's using all four of his limbs or he's playing drums in there. it's also ALWAYS in the middle of the night that sometimes i'd wake up. as i'm typing he's dancing away in my belly.
i'm having my second shower on july 9th in northern california being given by my family and college friends. in august, i'll have my third one being given by my church family.

lorialys ah thank you for posting when the new harry potter book comes out! i had a dream the other night that it came out and i didnt have it yet. i preordered like a year ago so this was very upsetting to me, in the dream. im a total dork.
for other harry potter dorks like me... i was just at navy pier tonight and the imax theater listing said the new harry potter movie would be there nov. 18. i have no idea if that is the actual release date or just the release date for the imax theater, but it means the new hp movie will be out in nov, which is so exciting to me. maybe you all knew that, but i dont go to movies at all and i dont read entertainment news like that. so i thought id share.

Weight gain - I weighed myself this morning and I'm up 15lbs. :( I was hoping that would be my total weight gain, not that much this early.
Nursery - We have cleared the room mostly and the walls have been painted since we moved in. Other then that we haven't even decided on a theme or bedding yet.
4D U/S - won't be doing it. Too much money and we did get 3 U/S already anyway.

Godsgift I so want your avitar (?) my husband loves to golf and we're having a boy to! Very green over your pic! LOL! The first outfit I bought for The Boy was a sleeper that had a teddy bear golfing with the words "Daddy's Pride and Joy" on it. DH loved that sleeper! :)
Nancy One of my co-workers, 5 years ago, had a son, and they called him The Boy all through out her PG too, cause they were in the same boat DH and I are in. We can't come up with a name! LOL! I still call him Little Bean too, but it's fun to call him The Boy, to sort of announce to others what we're having.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I bought some Laffy Taffy this morning, I love Laffy Taffy, and if I fail my 3 hour GTT tomorrow, it'll be the last time I get to eat it! :(
I had a long talk with The Boy last night, between my sever acid reflux/heartburn, anemia and the possiblilty of GD - he better stop being a lazy baby and move around more for me, to make all of this worth it! LOL! Not that it won't be worth it when he's born, but I'm into instant gratification - I want some belly kicks, and I want them now!!! :D
I am so glad to see a lot of you moving over from WC. I just wish everyone else would too :(
Tiger I haven't bought a going home outfit yet. I was going to wait until the showers were over and see how big the doctor thinks it will be. I have been debating on getting a newborn/premie outfit, instead of a 0-3 month. Just because the hospital takes pictures, and I don't want it to look sloppy on baby.
Hey ladies,
First, check this out...Big Enchilada Baby (http://www.themilwaukeechannel.com/news/4660578/detail.html?subid=22100414&qs=1;bp=t) YIKES!! Let's hope none of us get so "lucky".
Kudos to all the recent WC converts. I suspect more will come over from the WC when it becomes a ghost town.:rolleyes:
Nursery--DH and I have done nothing yet, except measure the room and where things will be placed. I'm hoping my co. has another sample sale for me to raid before I purchase everything. Getting a PBK crib for $50 would sooooo rock. Kids rugs are usually plentiful as well, so I'll save a ton there too.
4-D U/S--DH really wants to do this. It kind of creeps me out. Not sure why. He says he's going to book it for us, but if I know my hubby as well as I do, he'll forget.
adoredh--good luck with your GD test. I'm reading a great beach book right now "The Devil Wears Prada". I'm burning through the pages. Its along the lines of Bridget Jones, Nannie Diaries, etc and concerns the fashion mag industry. Nothing profound, but an entertaining read. One quick question about your potential GD...has your dr. mentioned any possible symptoms? Do you have them? Is there a correlation with weight gain/loss? Just curious.
For those who haven't had their Glucose testing, the drink is not that bad. My gag reflex is normally brutal (I think I actually toned my abs with all my dry heaving in the first tri) and I got this down fairly easy. Best of luck to all of you.
shower--This weekend is my first shower in Wisconsin. Most of my family lives there and since DH and I are making the trip there for the holiday, my aunts have planned a brunch shower. Should be fun. I haven't even thought of a coming home outfit for Flipper, but I suspect I'll be drowning in outfits after this weekend. My mum has already sent me 2 things for Flip. I'm convinced I won't need to purchase any new clothes for this guy until he's 5.
Hi Alisha!
QUESTION Has anyone heard about how the mercury in the baby vaccinations are effecting the increase in the number of autism cases?? My FIL brought this to my attention last week (he saw a program on it). I am starting to do some research, but wanted to get opinions from you ladies too. My FIL said that I can request to have vaccinations without the mercury. All the mercury does is expand the "shelf life" of the vaccine. TIA!
Good morning everyone! I am so happy to see our group growing over here. How many do we have left to "convert"?
I woke up with yet another charlie-horse type cramp in my leg this morning. It happened about 20 minutes before the alarm went off too...what a way to start the morning.
I thought I was going to have to go home sick a few minutes ago. All of a sudden, I got really hot, short of breath and nauseaus. I got up and walked outside for a little bit and now I feel better. It is the second time this has happened to me.
Has anyone seen any good maternity dresses lately? My BIL is getting married at the end of the month, so I am in search of a cute dress. I don't want to spend a ton of money on it though since I will probably only wear it once.
adoredh How did you see who was viewing this thread? Hello to you too!!
CJ I haven't heard anything about the mercury. I will put that on my list of things to check out before October!
Surftraitor I saw the Big Enchilada baby this morning too. I told DH i was praying that didn't happen to us! She was even 3 weeks early!!!
Morning gals!
Well I heard back from the photographer about the maternity shots and he is able to do it the one day we are available at my parents house. I added up costs last night. I guess I was denial about how expensive it would be to do it locally, yikes! All in all, he's going to be at least 50% cheaper (sitting fee plus reprints) so we are going to go for it even though I'll only be 28 weeks. His quality is the same as here just the cost of living makes him cheaper, and since we are talking about hundreds of dollars it really is significant. :)
Tiger: It's all the way at the bottom, there is a list who of is viewing the thread. I noticed this yesterday. If anyone wants to be really anonymous and lurk you just have to log out and I think you will appear as a "guest". This message board is similar to another doggie board I belong to and that is how it works over there.
I got a cute dress on the clearance rack at Motherhood. I bought it just in case I needed one because it was so inexpensive. I would think they would have most of the summer stuff on sale.
Peds: Thanks to all for the advice! Of course, dumb me asks you guys after my appointment yesterday but I know who my ob will recommend I think since they are part of a network. I did get a few recs from our old neighbor who had a 2 year old and was a neonatologist herself. I joined a local parents network and both of the practices she recommended happened to be discussed quite a bit on a few of the discussion threads. There are two docs, one at each practice I'll be inquiring about taking new patients.
cj: I have not heard anything about that. Guess I'll have to read up on it. I know very little about autism, but I guess I thought a baby was born with it (and it developed later) rather than acquiring it as the child grows.
Maternity pants: Has anyone found any gray business casual work pants? I can not find a pair anywhere, I cannot believe it. Old Navy and Gap only have black and tan, but I'm desperate for gray too! Any ideas?
ETA: I have my next appointments 8/9 and 8/23. Thanks!
cj: There was a huge uproar over this in the 90's, but it's sort of died down to internet message boards these days. Do your own research and read both sides of the argument. Basically, if you don't vax your kid, you are gambling that the rest of the world does so that nothing dangerous comes in contact with your child. IMHO, that's too risky. Millions of children in the U.S. are vaccinated per year, but thousands are diagnosed with autism. The odds are in my favor.
I also speculate that autism is overdiagnosed these days. Remember how when we were kids there were always a couple that were *different*? Whether anti-social or awkward or whatever? Now all those kids are diagnosed as autistic, running the gamut from severe to mild. Now, I'm not demeaning autistic children or their parents, my point is that either the medical field has new diagnostic tests or is erring on the side of autistic to try to provide greater care to those that need it. Additionally, more vaccines in the 40s-70s had more mercury in them than the modern versions do today - yet autism rates these days are skyrocketing compared to back then??
So that's my own personal opinion for you to disregard as you please. I encourage you (and anyone else reading) to do your own research - but please read actual science, not some hippy dippy message board - and discuss this with your DHs. Come to your own conclusions about what's best for you and your children.
We live in a large metro area, with a high number of immigrants and international travelers. If measles, mumps, rubella, polio, or God knows what else shows up in the U.S., I believe that Washington, DC, is as good a place as any for it to arrive - or New York or LA. So why gamble with my kid? DH and I agree that our child(ren) will be vaccinated on schedule.
I apologize in advance if I get too sparatic with this information about autism and mercury in vaccines.
But here's an article from 6/27/2005 NY ban mercury in vaccines (http://www.in-pharmatechnologist.com/news/news-ng.asp?n=60916-new-york-bans) . It does list of some other states and their progress on banning mercury in vaccines.
OMG! I love how big and active this group got over the past day! I'm so happy to see you all here. I just wish we could get everyone...I miss the whole gang.
I'm going backwards in my responses
EJM-I'm so excited for you and the maternity pics. I hear you on the cost. Luckily I have two friends who are photographers so I'm hoping I can get one of them to do it for cost. We'll have to see. :)
I have not been able to find any good grey pants. I bought a pair of GAP ones and they itch me like crazy. I hate them. Luckily my job is super casual and I can wear skirts and flip flops or I'd be in trouble.
TigerMotherhood has some cute dresses and also check out Ebay. The polka dot dress I was wearing in that pic I posted from the wedding was Motherhood and only cost $30.
cj-There was a huge thing about this on Dateline a month or so ago. All the Doctor's swear that it's safe but there's a couple radical groups who are really anti-vacs...so I think it depends on who you ask. The Dr.s all say the benefits way outway the possible negatives and they deny there can be any link to Autisim but who knows? Some people even say u/s are linked to autisim too...really I think people are just trying to find an answer to the increase in autisim in the past 15 years and don't know where to start, KWIM?
adoredh-You're so funny...I'm glad you had a talk with "The Boy". :) I really hope you pass the 3 hour. My mom said my brother was a really mellow baby in the womb and he was an awesome newborn...slept through the night at 2 months. I was super active (so is Ella) and I was a terror of a newborn. I didn't sleep through the night until I was almost a year! :eek: So maybe you should be thankful he's a mellow baby. :)
surftraitor-Yeah! Your first shower! How exciting. Didn't you mention the new bedding is coming out soon? I'm curious to see what it looks like. I got the new catalog last night and there wasn't anything new in it yet. I'm dying to see it!
I saw that baby on the news this morning. They said the biggest baby born to date is 23 lbs!!!!!!! That's a 2 year old!
MCL-How exciting! You are already on to your second shower!
lorialys-You look so cute! A perfect baby belly for sure!
sdmama2be-How jealous am I that you are in Old Town all week! Is it weird not seeing the restaurants in the Bazaar?
I have been drinking a ton of water too. I can't get enough and I'm always thirsty!
LML-You are crazy!!! I would definitely say you are a good candidate for natural childbirth! YIKES!
I think the reason I'm freaking out so much about my weight gain is because I am such a gym junkie. I'm afraid I'm going to have to really kick it up to get this weight off since my body is so used to working out...I think I'll get a trainer. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me-
We got the baby's bedding in the mail yesterday! I love it!!! I couldn't stop looking at it. Hopefully this weekend we'll go color match some paint and start painting.
My only concern is that I ordered the chair in a pure white chenille and I know realize the bedding is more of an off-white cream color background than a white. I hope it still goes. The furniture is white, so I hope it won't look too out of place. If worse comes to worse I can have it re-upholstered in the toile. :)
My back has been KILLING ME! Sciatica is rearing it's ugly head. I can't sit all day at work. I'm going to have to find an alternative, for sure. Last night I was in so much pain that I fell asleep at 9pm and skipped the gym. GAH.
Besides that, I feel great. Super excited about getting the bedding! It's starting to feel so real!
Can you believe that some of us are almost in our 3rd trimester????? Doesn't it just seem like yesterday we were getting our BFPs?
jh124 Thanks for you opinion. I fully agree that it is something I do need to research and talk to my DH about. From what I have been told by my FIL, I can request vaccinations without the mercury (Thimerosal) in them. They are available, therefore my child would still get vaccinated. It's something I am going to bring up with my ped.

Lex - I think I have that exact same polka dot dress that you had on. I wore it to a wedding a few weeks ago and got tons of compliments on it! Oh, and as for weight gain, I've put on 22 pounds in 25 weeks. My doctor isn't too worried with my height and build. He said the weight comes off a lot more quickly if a person b/f the baby. He also said that your weight might get back down to your pre-pregnancy weight, but your body is still different because hips spread out and might not completely go back in to where they were, so pants might be a little tighter in that area. :( Small price to pay I guess.

Thanks Jen...I'm just a little overly concerned with my weight. I think I'm going to start putting the scale away and just weigh in at the Dr.s.....
Mods, do we still have to wait for Katy to change the thread titles? Cause I count 10 boys now! Look at us grow!

QUESTION Has anyone heard about how the mercury in the baby vaccinations are effecting the increase in the number of autism cases?? My FIL brought this to my attention last week (he saw a program on it). I am starting to do some research, but wanted to get opinions from you ladies too. My FIL said that I can request to have vaccinations without the mercury. All the mercury does is expand the "shelf life" of the vaccine. TIA!
there was an article in sundays nyt about this. ill give a link to it but you have to sign up (free) for nyt online access to read it. basically it says that parents insist there is a link between thimerosal and autism but all scientific studies by the "big guys" have shown there is NO link between the two whatsoever. the form of mercury that is in the vaccines (if it is there at all, its supposed to be removed but i guess there are trace amounts) is a LESS toxic form than the mercury found in the fish that people eat.
On Autism's Cause, It's Parents vs. Research (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/25/science/25autism.html?pagewanted=1)
a few quotes:
Thimerosal was for decades the favored preservative for use in vaccines. By weight, it is about 50 percent ethyl mercury, a form of mercury most scientists consider to be less toxic than methyl mercury, the type found in fish. The amount of ethyl mercury included in each childhood vaccine was once roughly equal to the amount of methyl mercury found in the average tuna sandwich.
By 2001, no vaccine routinely administered to children in the United States had more than half of a microgram of mercury - about what is found in an infant's daily supply of breast milk.
Diagnoses of autism have risen sharply in recent years, from roughly 1 case for every 10,000 births in the 1980's to 1 in 166 births in 2003.
Most scientists believe that the illness is influenced strongly by genetics but that some unknown environmental factor may also play a role.
Dr. Tom Insel, director of the National Institute for Mental Health, said: "Is it cellphones? Ultrasound? Diet sodas? Every parent has a theory. At this point, we just don't know."
i would just post the whole article but its 3 pages long and i dont want to bore everyone to tears about it. i delayed the mmr vaccine for stella because i hadnt really read up on it, but after reading this i feel better about getting her the vax. its still a bit scary, because you never know whats going to happen, but its a personal decision and now that i know this and a few other things i feel better about the choices i have made.
oh and i hope im not being preachy about this either by posting this info, but since it was brought up i wanted to provide this article for people to see.

Wow, the group really is growing!
cj - Thanks for the comps on my screenname. It's what we call our dog, Sam.....after Scuba Steve from "Big Daddy". It's pretty funny - he loves it....he gets all excited b/c we say it in a higher pitch funny voice. ;)
Re: vaccinations.......DH and I have been having discussions about this recently. Our chiro, who happens to be a good friend of ours and is all "natural" about everything, gave DH this huge book of research and articles done on vacc. Plus, my cousin & his wife are pretty against them too - but they also live in Canada and had moved to the UK by the time their daughter needed to get her vaccs and I'm sure that the recommended vaccs in those 2 places are different than the US. Anyway, now DH is becoming against them and while I agree that there are certain ones that kids don't need and there are risks, I'd rather take a small risk w/ a vacc than take a large risk of our child contracting something from another child at daycare/school, a drinking fountain, whatever. It'll be interesting to see what we decide on. The article posted was pretty interesting as it listed our state (WA) w/ pending legislation. So it may be a moot point by the time Carter gets his shots.
Re: The Big Enchilada. I saw this yesterday and felt so bad for that poor woman! Funnily, my boss is convinced that I'm going to have a 12 lb baby! My dept started a poll/bet as to what day I'd deliver and how much the baby will weigh. My boss is such a loon! He even has 2 kids!! Um, hello?! What are the chances that a woman of 5'4" who was 7lb 6oz at birth and her DH who is 5'8" and 7lb something at birth will have a 12lb baby? I told him that if I have a 12lb baby that he has to give me an extra 2 months off paid mat. leave.....and he agreed. Kinda makes me want a 12lb baby just to get the extra time off! LOL!!! J/K!! ;)

Guys...I have a whine/question about the other thread...
I really hate the format and I hate how difficult it is to do edits to a thread. I will try to do this next round of edits tonight, but honestly, my priority is going to be to update the thread that is the easiest to update - this one. I know the updates to that thread are gonna take a long time, too, because there are a lot that weren't completed in time for the switch.
Would it be horrible of me to say that I won't update anymore after tonight? At the same time, cj, I hate for all the responsibility to fall on you. I wonder if hmbay and eliezrah would take it back on since they're the ones really pushing hard to keep that thread...they already know the password and stuff...
lml Don't stress about it. I think most of the people who are here will be posting updates here, or at least that is the impression I get. I believe the only people exclusive to WC will be hmbay, elizerah, and dianecourt -- at least who have posted that since the switch saying that is their intention. Hmbay also posts to the LJ thread you started. Most of the other Oct mommies have at least said they are joining here to read along, a few are just waiting for verification e-mails. I had that intention too, but it's just too darn easy to post over here ;) so maybe they will have the same feeling? Guess I'm saying that whoever does the updates probably won't have that many to do.
LexyLou
06-29-2005, 03:28 PM
LML-I wouldn't stress. Are you planning on frequenting both threads? If not I would ask Elizrah or hmbay to maybe co-mod...it's a lot to do both boards. I know I will still lurk on there to say hi to everyone but I don't expect to post there much anymore.
adoredh
06-29-2005, 03:29 PM
LML - I don't know if you noticed or not (not that I'd expect you to LOL!) but I've only posted my updates here. I'll be popping in to the WC thread to keep track of the other mom's (can't leave Heather and Lisa there all by them selfs!!!) but I won't be doing my updates there at all.
I wouldn't sweat it either, I'm sure that Lisa or Heather would be happy to update on that side when they can. Esp if everyone that moved over here tries to just keep their apointments and stuff on this thread (so that you don't have to pull double duty, or is that triple with the LJ thread too?!?!)
I'd volunteer to help, but I'm posting at work, which will be stoping sometime in Aug....
My Company has been bought out!!! They're calling it a merge, but that's not really what it is IMPO - the goal is to move our office to there's by the end of July/Aug. The new company is taking over our employment, which means I have a ton of worries right now:
Will I get the same pay?
Insurance (waitting period? heaven forbid!) Will I get new insurance? Will I have to switch OB's? Is my PG a pre-existing condishion that the new insurance won't cover? (does that mean I'd have to pay COBRA?!?!? :eek: )
I have a ton more worries, but since I was only told about this 10 mins ago, I'm going home to soak it in!
BTW - wish me luck on tomorrow's 3 hour GTT please, I don't need another failure on top of this! :(

Posting quickly to say that pregnancy cannot be considered a pre-existing condition when going from group insurance to group insurance. You *might* be subject to an eligibility waiting period (like if they say, "You're eligible for health insurance after 30 days of employment."). You'd need to check on that. Also, you'd want to find out if they are self-insured because self-insured companies don't *have* to offer prenatal care or childbirth.
You may have to switch OBs...that would suck...
Also, if your employer changes for any reason (meaning if your paycheck now has some other company's name on it), that ought to be a qualifying event with your DH's company, if they offer health insurance. I'd weigh both your options and your DH's options and go for the best. You have 30 days after the qualifying event to select coverage and then you are ineligible to change or add on until another qualifying event or until open enrollment.
Here's a site that might help you out.

lml can you just sort of throw it up in the air over there and see if anyone volunteers? just say what you said, that right now you feel it is easier to stay here and you were wondering if someone else would mind "helping" with updates over there at wc. that way you arent asking specifically and maybe the ones who stay there will volunteer to maintain the thread.
adoredh ugh. i hope it all works out with the insurance situation. id try to find out info on that asap, you dont want to have to mess with that as you approach your due date. i do seem to recall something about not legally being able to take away or deny insurance benefits to a pg woman in the 3rd trimester but i cannot for the life of me recall where or why i read that. good luck and keep us posted. also, good luck with the gtt. :)
****
i was just reading in your pregnancy week by week and it said that this was the last week of the 2nd tri for me!!!!! holy crap!!!!!!!!! i cannot believe i am almost in the 3rd trimester :eek: where did the time go?? sorry, just had to freak out for a sec ;)

WOW How this group has grown..."hi" to everyone
adoredh: sorry to hear about the insurance issue with work. I would defnititely find out as much as you can asap about the new insurance etc. As far as I know Pregnancy is not a pre-existing condidtion...do you knwo the new ins provider? then you can ask your dr if they accept that ins. Good luck with all of it...
Lexylou: It's so strange seeing all the bland restaurants...Casa Bandini is now called the Cosmopolitan Restaurant ARGH It is all khaki and white..the patio/fishbowl margarita area where you sat and drank/ate chips and salsa while waiting 3 hours for a table is GONE and has been replaced by wooded tables and chairs (part of the restaurant) I was very sad...so we left and didn't eat there. I hope your scaitica(sp???) calms down.
Tiger: I hear you on the leg cramps..I have had them for the past couple f nights and they hurt :eek:
The Big Enchilada: YIKES!!!!! That has to be one of my biggest fears, a gigantic baby..this little girl is already considered "long"
Vaccinations: Tony is in biotech and is very pro medicine/vaccinations so I guess we will be following through with them all...also our daycare requests certain vaccinations. I'm not sure how I feel about them, I guess I need to be more informed..sometimes I feel like there is so much to learn and I get panicy and start wondering what kind of parent I'm going to be :confused:
Quick question, since I am computer challenges How do you post pictures?? or is there a place that I can read up about it?? We finally got a new scanner and I would love to share US pics of Baby M Thanks

Had my NEW and TOTALLY IMPROVED Dr. appt today! I love her!!!! My total weight gain in up to 16 lbs though. I was nervous because that’s 5 lbs in 3 weeks. Dr. said that it was fine and I should aim for 1 lb a week. She asked why I left my last doc and I told her everything (oh and hormones took over and I started crying again *sigh*) She was shocked and told me that she would hope that we enjoy our visits with her :D
Her staff rocks too! They gave me a bunch of stuff for the kid and info about the hospital where we’ll be giving birth. They were so on top of stuff that I was almost in shock! Oh and I had another U/S and got to see my son :D :D what a cutie!! I’m still measuring 2 weeks ahead but doc won’t change my date unless its 3 weeks…Both DH and I were pretty big at birth – I was 10 lbs and DH was 3.5 lbs born 3 months pre-mature…. Oh and I passed the GTT :D

lml I totally understand if you don't want to do updates on the WC thread. I haven't even tried editing in WC yet. But if it's as a pain in the rump like you said, maybe Lisa or hmbay would rather keep the updates. Every time I go to that board I just get so frustrated with what they have done.

24weeks! :D
I have my doctors appointment tomorrow. I have a HUGE list of questions for him. I am a little nervous to see how much weight their scales say :eek:
Baby is really kicking now. Today was the first time I felt activity while taking a shower. (usually the kid isn't up unitl mid-morning)
I finished up going through both registries last night and I need to go back to BRU and finish up some items I miss. I plan on doing that tomorrow before my appointment. I also finished my guest list for my surprise baby shower. 55 people invited :eek:
question does anyone NOT pee in a cup when they go to the doctor?? mine has yet to have me do this, and when I tell people that they find it a bit odd.
lml41981
06-30-2005, 07:19 AM
cj, I think it is odd that you don't PIAC, too. My doc checks for sugar and protein everytime. I think now the updates won't be so bad, but there were like 12 pages to go through and it was just tedious and frustrating. Lisa isn't going to do them...she said she doesn't have time. Oh well... 55 people to your surprise shower? Woah - that's a lot. One question, though...if it is a surprise shower, how do you know it is taking place and why did you have to do the guest list? ;)
mommycal, I'm going to post updates here and post things I don't really want in the open on LJ.
godsgift, So glad you found a doctor you like! Also glad you passed the GTT. :)
sdmama, when you scan your photos, upload them to snapfish, shutterfly or photobucket (don't use msn groups because some of the urls are not working over here). Then, when you look at the picture you uploaded, right click on it and go to properties. Highlight and copy the URL for the photo. Then, when you get here, you will click the button above the reply box that looks like a mountain inside a yellow box. Paste your url in there and hit enter.
nancy drew, I feel the exact same way...Lex mentioned the other day that it felt like we had just gotten our BFPs...I've felt like that all along. I think keeping a calendar on my desk at work with each week marked on Thursdays makes it feel like it is going by faster for me, too.
*******
Vaccines: My uncle has autism (he was born either in the late 40's or early 50's...not sure how old he is). I don't know what caused it, but when he was diagnosed, my grandmother was told it was caused by bad mothering. Of course she took exception to that and pointed out that none of her other kids had it up to that point...and afterwards, none of them had it. They were all vaccinated and my siblings and I were vaccinated. I plan to vaccinate our child(ren) because the risk of autism is worth the protection from diseases that could kill or permanently damage.
I'm 25 weeks today...I can't believe that in about 15 weeks, I will have a daughter. Kinda freaks me out. :p
Does anyone have any parenting, breastfeeding or similar books that they have read or been told are good to read? If so, post them in red and I will add them to our thread.

lml The only reason I created my guest list is so that my mom invites the right people... especially friends and co-workers. Although the time, place and so forth about the baby shower will be a surprise. I have to admit I am a hard person to surprise about things like this. About the PIAC thing, it worries me that he doesn't, because what if I do have high protein or sugar levels?? How else would they know?? I think I will try to do WC's updates since no one really has the time. Do you want me to take you off as a mod??

EJM - sucks about work blocking Yahoo! and Hotmail. Is there a way you could make it seem like you have a legit business reason to check it? I got in trouble once for using Google because the boss said there was no way Google was work related...I was searching for something that was definitely work related...she told me the only acceptible search engine was Yahoo!. Glad your crib came in...mine should be here come August.

This was posted on the WC October Mommies thread and thought you guys would like to know... it's was posted by hopalong:
This is Lisa's (Eliezrah) friend Kristin - I haven't tried out these new boards yet, so I hope this works. Just wanted to update you.
Lisa left me a vmail at work that she was on her way to the hospital to get monitored. She said she didn't think it was anything major. However, I guess all week she has been having sharp pains in her stomach and I think she said that she had a small spot, so her doc advised her to go in just to make sure it was nothing. She said that she would call me back with more details as she had them, so I'll be sure to update in here. I did try calling her cell back, but of course she didn't answer. If I don't hear from her in the next couple hours I'll call her house since I'm sure someone is there with Jackie.
So please keep Lisa and Seth in your thoughts and prayers!!!!

lml - You've done such a great job along with the other mods keeping our stats updated both in WC and now in CC, that I don't think you are being unrealistic to want to only do one. Hopefully, someone over in WC will be able to update the stats for those remaining over there.
adoredh - Sorry about your company being bought out. I sure hope there is no waiting period....that would put not only pregnant people like yourself in a bind, but a lot of other people with chronic health problems. I know I worked for a company once that changed to completely different insurance companies (and totally different doctors in their networks). The new insurance company would make exception for those pregnant women to let them keep their same doctor if they were so far along in their pregnancy instead of making them find a new doctor so late in the game. How did your GTT go?
NancyDrew - I know what you mean about it being hard to believe it is almost the third trimester.....time flies....hopefully I will still think that when I'm 36 weeks pregnant and during labor. :p
sdmama2be - Can't wait to see your u/s picture.
godsgift - Yeah for finding a new doctor! Maybe you can call her Dr. Nice. :D Congrats on passing your GTT.
mommycal - I plan to post mainly here but lurk in WC and LJ. Just don't have time to do SOs in three places and I like this one best and it seems the majority of our group has moved over to here.
cj - Wow, I hope you get a lot of things off your registery!
EJM - Yeah for getting the crib in!
amtaylor - Thanks for letting us know about Eliezrah. I hope everything is ok.
The autism and vaccination discussion has been great. I feel the same as many as you that I will vaccinate just because of the benefits compared to risks. I did work with a woman whose daughter has autism and she strongly believe it was tied to her vaccination. She is a single mom and it is so hard for me to see her struggle to try and find caregivers for her daugher (who is now 12) while she works. Her daughter can't speak words, just makes noises, sounds and isn't potty trained.
Does anyone else have a "shelf" on the top of their uterus? I seemed to have really grown in the last few weeks and now I seem to have this little shelf right at the top of my belly where I could probably put a small plate and have it sit there. :p Yesterday, I actually felt kicks that high up....was weird to feel kicks coming up at me instead of out or down.
I've registered for things, but I'm not sure if I'll have a shower or not. I've had a couple family members and friends mention it but noone has said anything since then. I'm such a Type A personality that I want to get everything done and bought for the baby by Labor Day, just in case baby comes early or I just feel like sh$t that last month and don't want to do much of anything. I've been buying a few things at a time each time I'm out shopping so that it doesn't break the bank.
A big hello to all those who have joined over here! I so happy we are getting more and more people over here.

I hope everything is ok with Lisa. Thanks for posting that information amtaylor.
cj-I've had to pee in a cup every time I go. It's the first thing I do. I would ask your Dr. why he hasn't had you do that...but then again I went once a month for the first trimester but since then they have only had me come in once every 6 weeks. I have my 28 week and I'm curious if they'll have me start doing 2 weeks or another 4 weeks and then 2 weeks after 32? Weird.
I'm also having two showers with 50+ people. One up in the Bay Area and one down here with our friends. Crazy!
Hope everyone is having a nice morning. It's almost Friday!!! :D
QOTD-What's is everyone doing for the 4th of July?
I'm bummed it's on Monday and we don't have Tuesday off but we are doing our annual beach day again. It's going to be a much smaller group (25-30 vs the normal 60+) because some people are going to Lake Tahoe and some people want to go on Sunday but it will still be fun. I'm dreading getting up at 7am to get a spot on the beach though but DH really wants this to be his final beach hurrah! Sigh!

I've had to PIAC each time I go to the doctor's as well. It's just a normal thing for them. My next appointment will be 30 weeks and then I'll go every two weeks. When she told me that I almost passed out! I can't believe I'm that close already!
I'm having one shower, but I don't know how many people are going to be invited. I gave my mom a list about about 6 that I really wanted to be there. I think the rest will be family and church people. She only bought a pack on 20 invites, so it doesn't sound like it's going to be all that big.

WOW! This thread moves fast!!!
I would reply to each person, but I'd have to go back a couple of pages to make sure I had everone!
Thank you to everyone for the information on the insurance and different advise! I really appreciate it, and needed the extra confidence boost!
So far - my major worries have to deal with insurance and maternity leave, and if I'll even get hired. They can not hire me, and it would be hard to prove that it's because of my PG... no guarantees on anything yet, this is so hard to swallow!!!
If I do get hired into the new company - I'll have new insurance. I don't know what it is yet, I don't know if I'll be able to keep my OB or not. I have also heard that the new insurance can not consider PG as a pre-exisiting condish - hopefully that's true! I'm going to be devistated if I can't keep my OB! There's so much trust built up - I've been with her for 5 years! :(
DH is on my insurance. The company he works for, is just him and the boss. So it would be very cost restrictive for his boss to offer insurance. (no group rate for 2 people I guess?) DH is going to ask him though, to see what he says, maybe they can come up with something...
On another note - I had my 3 hour GTT today (spent 4 hours at the office, I was bored out of my mind!) Got a little sick feeling from not eatting and just having the orange gunk to drink. I'll find out on Monday if I passed or not (please let me pass, esp right now!!!)
Thanks again for your support girls! Wish I could do SO's but I'm so behind at work as it is (not that I really care about that at the moment...)

I am not a lawyer, but I would suggest you compile a brag book of all compliments you've gotten on your work via email or inter-office mail. Keep letters that show pay raises. Basically, keep anything that shows you were a good employee. That way, if they *do* let you go, they can't really say it was for anything you did and your chances of proving it was pg related would be better. Hopefully you keep your job, though.
And again, pregnancy cannot be considered a pre-existing condition when going from group insurance to group insurance. It is against HIPPA laws. The only thing is that you could be subjected to a waiting limit before you could get insurance coverage at all...but if not *everyone* who transfers from your company to the new company and selects the new company's insurance is subjected to the waiting period, then I'd ask questions because it would be shady for some people to have a waiting period and not others.

LML Good point about gathering all my letters and such together. It will be nice to have that type of a file to show him. I'm supposed to have a meeting with the "new boss" next week. Not sure what to expect, because it isn't an interview, and yet, in a way, it is. Such a weird sitch to be in! So surreal!
Insurance, the good and the bad:
The simi good - they have the same insurance company, so I would be able to keep my OB (as long as he doesn't have a waitting period for me to get on the insurance) I really need unintrupted insurance, as the baby is due Oct 2, and if the waitting period is from the end of Aug to the end of Sept for example, if something happens where I give birth early, I'm screwed!
The bad - our company does not qualify for COBRA - so I don't even have a safty net!!! :eek: :( :eek: :(
I wonder if I could take up the cost of insurance on my own, so that I'm covered until I give birth - worse case...

adoredh-I just want to let you know I'm thinking of you...I don't know much about the subject but I do know by law they cannot take away insurance from a woman who is in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy...doesn't mean they have to pay for it, so you could have to pay a ton but they do have to make it available.
I really hope this works out ok and the new company honors your insurance...

LMLI wonder if I could take up the cost of insurance on my own, so that I'm covered until I give birth - worse case...
This is an option. You would need to talk to a broker about getting insurance with prenatal care and childbirth coverage and no waiting period or pre-existing condition clause because HIPPA laws don't apply to independent insurance, so pregnancy *could* be considered a pre-existing condition with them. I don't know if that kind of plan is available...
I also didn't realize that they couldn't take away insurance from a woman in the 3rd trimester.
The other thing...and I hesitate to suggest this because some people take exception to public aid...but if you and DH qualify for Medicaid and you are unable to get insurance through work that will cover prenatal and childbirth, then you could look into Medicaid.

I just received a call from my doctor's office. I've passed the GTT, but my bloodwork came back a little off. I now have to start taking Iron supplements twice a day. She wants me to take the "Slow FE" brand and drink and TON of water to help keep away the side effects....
I'm glad I passed the GTT, but I'm really not looking forward to taking that supplement knowing that it makes so many other people sick :(

adoredh When I was looking for insurance on my own, there is a two year wait period before they will cover anything and what they cover isn't much (no delivery, if I remember correctly). I am confident everything will turn out for the best. Stay strong!
amtaylor
06-30-2005, 02:43 PM
Insurance is so different based on your state and even your region in that state. I've never seen a two year wait period... that's insane! I can't believe that they didn't cover delivery costs either. I guess my insurance isn't so crappy after all!

LML I'm normally a very independant woman, but I WISH we could qualify for medicaid!!! My friend just had a baby and did not have to pay a single dime for anything!!! Not her prenatal pills, not her Dr's apts, not a single bill will she see! It's just not fair, I pay up the ying yang for insurance, pay the co-pays, and have an 80/20 coverage for the birth. I'm bitter about it, paying the taxes that we have to pay, and still paying more on top of it all, while my friend gets to go home with this cute baby, a free car seat and a free crib (even though I already got her one) I'm very happy for her, but bitter that DH and I actually suffer more, because we work for a living and she's always just floated through life...
OK, off my high horse.
More updates - just talked to the new owner, he said that he wants to meet with me next week. Then he tried to calm my fears over the insurance (this is not written in stone, so I'll believe it when it happens!) by saying that for me, my insurance will either stay the same and he'll just pay for it out of pocket (will the insurance company let him do that?!?! I'm thinking not...) that normally they have a 90 day waitting period, but we would not be considered new highers. If his insurance company will just let him add us on, that's what he'll do. I feel a little better, but I'm not going to feel comfortable until it's in writting!
This is so stressful!
DH has been doing a GREAT job of calming me down though. He says that if I don't get hired in, then we'll have unemployement (since my company is so small, they don't have to, and they don't pay maternity leave - so we'd have a bit more money...) and for the hospital bills, he said The Boy is coming no matter what, so if we have to pay for it out of our pocket, we will. It'll just take us 40 years or more to do so!

Forgot to say: Amtaylor sorry about the low iron! Slow-FE is a lot better then what they first gave me, maybe you won't get sick at all! (I have a very sensitive tummy)
lvella - I think that any insurance has to give coverage to PG women, I think it's a law some where? I know that there was a year wait for private insurance that I was looking at, so if I got breast cancer or something in the next 6 months, it wouldn't cover anything... insurance sucks... I know that there are some places where you can purchase private insurance at a group coverage, maybe this makes a difference?

Welcome shushyk! Good to see you here.
adoredh-I'm sure he can pay for it out of his pocket and even if your insurance changes there is no waiting period for pregnancy and they can't consider it a pre-existing condition and not cover it...the worst is that you would have to change Dr's but I'm sure that won't even happen. It will work out. :)

hi everyone,
i wanted to comment on the vaccinations. when i decided to switch from hospital nursing to school nurse for los angeles unified school district, i learned a ton. first of all, there's vaccination requirements for childcare and when we decide to enroll our kids to school. i can't allow registration unless the immunizations are up to date. you can decline immunizations due to religious or personal beliefs but the minute there's an outbreak of some sort when there's immunization available, the school nurse has to exclude your child (ex. chicken pox).
i hope that everyone has a great 4th of july weekend. my baby boy has been kicking a ton all over but for some reason, he favors my upper right side a lot.

Nancy Drew No problem! I'm such a huge HP fan, it's not even funny. Cute belly progression! You're starting to get a cute little round basketball too!

HAPPY FRIDAY LADIES :D
I am taking a half day. I want to finish up the baby registry at BRU and then I have my doctors appointment.
My mom felt movement for the first time last night. She was excited because she never felt my niece move when my sister was pregnant. This kid is just a rocking and a rolling. I'm going to forget for a few moments, the drama of my job :D
Baby showers We have 80 people invited to the one my mom is throwing. It's my dad's side and my mom's side together - couples shower. I have a HUGE family on my dad's side, so that's why it's so large (those Irish Catholic's love to party too!) And we're all very close, so the Great Aunts and Great Uncles along with all the Aunts and Uncles, plus all my cousins and their spouses, it's going to be one huge party! :) This one is Aug 27th...
My MIL's will be more tradishional - maybe 10 to 20 women from her side and FIL's side (they're not married, but MIL still keeps very close with FIL's side of the family) I'll be helping with this one, because she's in a neck brace for the next couple of months (from surgery to fix her neck) sometime in Sept - they take their time planing things so I don't expect to know that date until Aug! LOL!
The girls from Girls night will throw me a shower too, it's on Aug 21st - rummor has it, that this is going to be a fancy tea party theme, but it's being kept a secret from me! LOL! There will be 8 to 10 of us at that one.
Work, I was expecting a shower from them, but with the move, now I'm not so sure!!! Would be kinda sucky not to get one from work, since I did all the baby showers from the past 6 years for my co-workers...
Movement seems to be getting stronger - I just can't wait until he moves more! LOL! Todd felt the baby move again the other night, that was nice. It makes me feel not so alone in all of this, when Todd's more involved. It's not that he's not involved, in fact, my getting PG seems to have made him more laid back, we've changed roles! I'm the worry wart, and he's the one that calms me down. Kinda neat to see how we each fulfill roles needed to make our marriage work :P
I got to hold my friend baby yesterday, it was too funny. He's not even a week old yet, so tiny! Anyway, I slouched down on the couch, and draped him over my tummy so that the boys could get to "know" each other. He fell asleep with his feet curled up underneath him, his head on the shelf of my tummy, and each teeny tiny little arm draped over the sides of my tummy. It looked like he was hugging my belly! So cute! Then he pee'd on me... LOL!!! :D
That's all for now, I'm going to try and ease-drop on my bosses meeting. They met with the new boss yesterday, and my manager is meeting with them today. I'm the only other agent in the office and they left the door open. Very easy to hear what they are saying about this sitch!! LOL!

cj, I'm not sure when the baby turns, but I'm 25 weeks and have been feeling kicks just below my ribs and. Last night I was eating dinner and feeling totally, 100% fine...no m/s at all. I got a swift kick that felt like it compressed my stomach and it made me sick one time. I was fine after, though. I know it was this strange kick that did it, too, because I wasn't feeling bad before or after. :rolleyes:
godsgift, yeah...I'm thinking about returning to work already, too. I don't want to post my thoughts on the subject on a public message board, though. ;)
sdmama, congrats on your students' work being sent as an example of how students can learn. :)

4th plans...we're going to my hometown tomorrow afternoon to watch a symphony concert and fireworks. Haven't heard anything from his parents, so at this point, I'm gonna say it is too late for them to request our time. We don't want to spend the entire holiday weekend driving.
Prayers for John, please. He was supposed to hear last Friday about a particular job, but that day got pushed back because scheduled interviews weren't over yet. Now they say he ought to hear today. He has two companies interested in him and both said today might be the day.
Hi girls -- I never made it back here yesterday to do replies and of course I'm just as busy today. I'm an accountant and it's both month and quarter end. Glad to hear everyone is doing well.
Showers: We are having two family/friends showers, and I expect each to be about 10-15 people. I think work will have one for me, just cake/soda thing in the office, and DH's co-workers usually buy a gift for the family for weddings and babies. It's a small group and they are close to each other.
4th weekend: I have to work tomorrow, yuck because of quarter end. I'm hoping we finish so I don't have to work on Sunday too. BBQ on Saturday night with friends. And I think we are headed to BRU on Monday to look at gliders. We haven't set foot in BRU yet, our registry I did 100% on-line, its so darn far away but it should be fun to look around.
Returning to work: Not ready to think about it yet! I'm still hoping to win the lottery between now and January :D
cj: Love that bedding!
I promise to drop by with more replies this weekend and my 24 week belly shot once I down load it.
Books: I was told by a lactation consultant that "So That's What These Are For" is a great straightforward book on breastfeeding. And FYI, I started The Happiest Baby and its very enlightening.

EJM: I've also heard really great things about "The Happiest Baby." I haven't started reading it, but our local Babies R Us is holding a seminar based on the book in September. If I don't get time to read it, I will definitely sign up for that class!
Has anyone else taken advantage of the free BRU seminars? I've gone to four and most have been very useful. I don't recommend the "Product Demo" one, but the rest are nice. You also get a free diaper bag full of stuff for coming. I think we have enough formula to last a while if the breastfeeding doesn't pan out, which is very helpful... have you seen the price of formula!? A few of our local grocery store keep it locked behind glass...
There have been some major issues going on at my husband's work and I'm a little worried. They've always joked about one of the Ranger having the potential to go "postal." Well now he's either been fired or asked to resign and one of his co-workers has become very criptic. He's checking everyone each day to make sure they are wearing their bullet-proof vest. The worst thing for me is that Marc was a witness to the act that cost him his job and he blames him.... I'm scared, but Marc thinks I'm just being hormonal!

Good morning everyone! Where did the week go? I am frantically trying to get things taken care of so DH and I can head back home for the 4th. I am so excited to spend 3 days at the lake...just dreading the 8 hours it takes to get there.
jh124 Love the bedding!
amtaylor Unfortanately, there isn't a BRU in my town so I dont have the opportunity to go to the free seminars. I wish I could though!
lml Good luck to your DH on the job situation today! Let us know if he finds something out!
CJ Good luck at the doctor's and I love that bedding. So cute!
showers My SIL is having a shower for me that will have all of my family and DH's family. DH has a really small family though and none of them really do anything together so it will probably just be his mom and step-mom who go so it will be mostly my family. The shower is scheduled for Aug. 13th and I expect around 30 or so to be there. Thank goodness for my family because I know Dh's family would never think of having a shower for me on their own. I also think I am going to have a small shower at work. They said they want to have it after my family shower so they can fill in the gifts that I have left over.
Returning to work I really really wish I would be able to stay home but it just isn't going to happen. Dh got a promising email about a job that he applied for recently, so I may very well be looking for a new job within the next couple of months. That could be pretty difficult since I will be about 7 or 8 months pregnant by that time. Pretty scary!
4th Plans We are making the 8 hour drive back to see my family and stay at their cabin on the lake. It shoudl be a lot of fun to see my family. They always do fireworks over the lake too so that will be fun to watch. We took Tuesday off so we won't drive back until then so it will be a nice long weekend for us.

Question... our hospital has all private rooms and two VIP suites. The VIP suites are an additional $250 per night. We're not having to pay anything out of pocket because I was smart and enrolled in the best insurance plan instead of going with the plan DH wanted to go with. Would you go with a standard room or would you go with a VIP suite?
Here's a standard room:
http://www.medicalcityhospital.com/CPM/03A.jpg
http://www.medicalcityhospital.com/CPM/04A.jpg
And a VIP suite:

http://www.medicalcityhospital.com/CPM/07.jpg
http://www.medicalcityhospital.com/CPM/05.jpg
http://www.medicalcityhospital.com/CPM/06.jpg
The plus to the VIP suite is that it has an extra bed for DH to sleep in and it has that really nice bathroom. I also like that it is bigger, so we'll have more space to move around and that I will have somewhere separate from the bed to sit when I want to get out of bed. All the rooms have internet access and tv. The suite has a kitchenette and the regular rooms have a minifridge.

lml41981 - If the suite won't cost you any extra, I vote for the suite. It looks roomier, the tub looks like it might be wonderful (even if you don't feel up for a soak, you can sit on the side and shower).
The suite is my vote.
lml41981

Whoops...I meant to clarify...we would have to pay $250/night for the suite because that is over and above a regular room. Had my hospital had semi-private and private rooms, we'd have to pay the extra for a private room, too.
The way we're justifying it is by telling ourselves, "Ok, this child is only costing us $20 to be born. We can afford to splurge on the nice suite." Of course, this is only if DH gets a job soon.
Although it looks much nicer, I doubt for $250/night I would enjoy it that much more for the 48 hours you'll be there. If you already have a private room, then I would just stick with that.
It sounds nice, but I think I would be more focused on the pain and labor than truly enjoying the upgrades this room offers.

So that means you can upgrade to the suite! :D
Our hospital has private rooms, so I know I'll get one of those, but they are smaller then your hospital's private room! I would be happy with just that! LOL!
Our hospital does have a really nice birthing room though (then you get moved to the smaller private room) that is pretty large.

lml congrats to your dh on the job offer!!! my vote is skip the suite. you will hardly care where you are as you will most likely be tired, shell-shocked, and a bit overwhelmed after giving birth. the tub looks nice but im pretty sure you arent allowed to take baths after giving birth so im not sure i understand why thats there (maybe for a water birth?) and i certainly didnt want to get anywhere near a tub for weeks after giving birth (just sitting down hurt). as ejm said, you will only be there a short while anyway and most of your time will be spent sleeping and focusing on your baby. looking back i cant even remember much about my hospital stay. we had a tv and vcr in the room and i dont think we turned on either one even once. for all i cared i could have been staying in a broom closet. anyway, thats just my $.02. i say save the $ and spend it on something that will last a little longer than your hospital stay. :)
lvella its great to see your belly again! :)

CJ cute bedding! I get TONS of kicks/punches/head butts all over the place so I dunno where he is. My dr says his head is in the right position. During our ultrasound, his head was in my lower right pelvic area…. He’s actually going to town on my entire abdomen right now. He seems to LOVE the space between my ribs….
jh124 LOVE that bedding – its what I voted for anyway :D
adoredh LOL @ getting pee’d on :) Hope you hear tons of good stuff!!
lml41981 YAY for John!!!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!! I agree with EJM on the room – I don’t think you will be spending enough time in the room to truly enjoy the amenities…
amtaylor I’ll keep your husband in my prayers. You may be hormonal but knowing that doesn’t lessen the worry factor…
Lvella43 cute belly shot!
Showers Ours will be both sides of the family, both sets of friends and both sets of co-workers and it’s a couples shower. I just didn’t want to have 3 separate showers so I combined them! :D
BRU is having a sale this weekend if anyone is out and about!

x post from wc
I'm back from VERY hectic week. I don't even know where to begin. The last time I posted was on the old WC!!
Last weekend I had a cousins wedding in Chicago (about 4 1/2 to 5 hours away) We got about halfway through Illinois when the car started jerking and had difficulty shifting. We finally got to our hotel around 2:30 and decided we would go to Shedd's aquarium. We got about a half mile down the road, when the car shifted hard all the time, not just once in a while. We got off the intersate and had them look at it. Since it was Friday afternoon, there was nothing they could do until Monday morning, but dh needed to be back at work by sunday afternoon! They said that GM would pay for a rental car only for the time that our car was in the shop and for only up to 2 days. GRRRR. So we rented a car anyways, drove back to Iowa Saturday night, halfway back to Chicago on monday night, and drove the rest Tuesday morning. Droped off the rental car, pick ours up, then went to Shedd's Aquarium for a few hours, then back to Iowa that night. A total PITA!!!!! When it was all said and done, GM did pay for the rental car the entire time. We are still going to write them a letter and hopefully they will reimburse us for gas and insurance on the rental car.
On top of all that I lost my job when i got back on Wednesday Luckily I didn't carry any of the benefits and was not the breadwinner. I was looking for a new job, because the 14K a year just wasn't enough, but I wanted something else lined up before I quit. Today I have been running all over town dropping off applications to 3 daycare centers. I wasn't overly impressed with the first one (koalaty time) but all I saw was the entry way, not any of the actual rooms. The staff was genuine and helpful and looked clean in appearance. The next one I went to seemed just plain awful. I say seemed because again, I didn't see any of the rooms. This one was Tender Years ( I think it'sjust local) The staff there was dressed in jeans at best, some in sweats and sloppy t-shirts. The entry way is the same as the lunch room. It didn't seem very clean, but the toddlers did just get done eating. I'm sure they can be quite messy. Most of the staff looked like they were still in highschool or college and one girl even said "What in the hell" in front of the kids. The last one (KinderCare) seemed awesome. I know KinderCare has a bad rap on the wc, so i was a little weery. But all staff was dressed appropriatly, helpful, and never once heard any of the yell. At Tender Years, the 2nd one i went to I heard several of them yelling. Since I couldn't see into the rooms, I'm not sure why exactly they were yelling. Maybe it was called for, maybe not. Hopefully I will get hired at one of the other centers and not have to worry about it, if not and i do get hired there, at least i still have 4 months to figure out if it's the best thing I can do for my baby.
THEN I get back to wc, to find out it has completly changed. I can't say for sure whether I will go here or to CC, but i will try to at least read up on both. Personally i don't like this new format, but maybe it's because I was so used to the old one.
SSL, I just had to get this all out and let you all know I'm still here.

LML-Congrats to your hubby! If you know you'll get a private room, I would pass on the suite. It seems nice but unless you are planning on a water birth, I doubt you would have much time to soak in the tub, you know? But if you don't mind shelling out $500 for just the piece of mind, then go for it...you only live once. :)
Lisa-Look at your cute belly!!!! I love it! Thanks for sharing.
Chad and Liz-I'm so sorry about your horrible weekend and week. I sure hope you find something soon. Were you not eligable for maternity leave at your old job? I know in CA they have to have a REALLY good reason to fire a pregnant lady.

I just got back from getting my wedding band cut off :( I didn't want to go to the doctor's office or out with our friends without it, so I put them on Tuesday. I forgot to take them off that day and now I'm paying for it... I got the diamond off, but the band wouldn't budge! unforntunately in Iowa, they are only required to give you 6-12 weeks off, UNPAID. And by their policy, they don't pay maternity leave. DH was very upset when he found this out, so needless to say the job wasn't much of a loss. I just hope I can find something soon. I had an interview already yesterday. It went ok, but not great. I have already worked for the company before, but in a different department, so that is a huge plus. The hours are kind of early, but then i would also get off early. (6a-2p)

We got the baby's bathroom almost done. I need to paint the cabinets, replace the light fixture and faucet, get cute drawer pulls and a silver door knob and hang something on the wall.
We went to PBK today and they had a bunch of stuff on sale, so that's where we got our bathroom. I can't remember if it was happy bugs or dragonflies that we got and it isn't online, but here are pictures (I need to iron the shower curtain).

Hi girls!! Hope everyone is having a fabulous 4th of July weekend.
godsgift77 Sorry to hear about your fears of having to leave you little guy when you return to work. I know it must be hard to deal with. Personally I haven't felt that way because I know that I'm going to be a SAHM, but I sympathize with you. (((Hugs)))
cj Cute bedding! I think the baby can turn anytime up until delivery. And even then, some babies are so stubborn that they stay breach. After awhile (after 34 weeks, I think?) it gets harder for them to turn because there isn't much room. But my mom said that she felt me turn right before she went into labor, and it was a pretty uncomfortable feeling at that point because I was so big!
adoredh LMAO at you holding the baby and then him peeing on you. Just wait!! ;) My mom insisted that we buy lap pads last week when we were shopping, and now I understand why! LOL
amtaylor I'd love to take the BRU seminars but we don't have a store in our town, or anywhere near. :( Hope the situation at Mark's work gets resolved peacefully, and soon. Sorry to hear about having to get your wedding band cut off though, that stinks.
jh124 Yay! I love the doggies, so cute.
Tiger Hope your DH gets that job!
lml41981 I agree with what a few others have said about not getting the suite. The private room looks pretty nice to begin with, and you probably will be too much in pain and/or focused on delivery before the birth to enjoy it. And after the birth you'll be pre-occupied with the new baby. The seating area would be nice though, for guests. I guess it's up to you! Congrat to John on his job!!! Cute bathroom stuff, I love the bugs on the towels.
lvella43 Nice belly shot!
Welcome acheese!
Chad and Liz Sorry to hear about your crummy week/weekend and about losing your job. It doesn't sound like you were too attached to it though. (((Hugs)))
sdmama2be Cute ultrasound pics!
We worked really hard on our nursery today! We got the wall border hung, the wall hangings and curtains hung, and the stuffed animal hammock put up.

Lorialys Love your nursery! You are so much further ahead then Todd and I are!Right now, we're just waitting to see what we recieve from friends and family at the showers and fill in the rest. We have the crib, but still need the mattress. The bedding is on the registry, so we'll wait and see if we get it. Also, with how busy the weekends are this summer, it's a little hard for us to even think about what we want to do with the babies room. We may just keep the blue sponge painted walls, not sure what Todd wants to do! (remember, he's the one that's decorating the babies room, so it's all in his hands! LOL!)
I am so excited to have my very own PC - finally! Still think it's more of a luxory right now, but the doors are wide open for working at home if I wanted to, and DH is looking forward to keeping better track of our finances.
Glad you're enjoying peaceful times in the babies room. It's got to be nice to soak it all up, just you and Luke (before Luke gets a voice and can scream the house down! LOL!)
Tulip I'm so sorry for the loss of your Grandmother. Grandmother's are very special, and while I lost mine at a younger age, I've also found myself longing for her to be a part of this PG. I know that both of our Grandma's are going to keep an eye on their Great Grandchildren, and they'll still be a part of everything, just from a different view... Praying for you and your family!
Jennifer Welcome to our new home! It seems pretty hoppin' over here, even on the weekends! So glad that I get to pop in here on the weekends too! Even more excited that I'll still be able to stay in touch on maternity leave! (had dreams of walking to the libary to get on the net just to let you guys know he was born and the birth story! Now I just need to walk up to the PC! LOL! :) )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spent most of the weekend with MIL - it was fun, swimming in her new pool and eatting burgers. But today, I was looking forward to a break, and that was not ment to be! Just as we pulled into IHOP, who just be just getting our of her car? MIL with her boyfriend! Guess I was just ment to spend the WHOLE weekend seeing MIL at least once a day! LOL! It was nice to have breakfast together though, DH doesn't talk much when he eats, he's very into his food, so don't mess with him when he's hungry! LOL!
Felt the baby do this rolling thing yesterday and today, how cool was that?!?! And to even feel it from the outside too! Hopefully he's starting to get more active, I love feeling him move, and would love to feel more of it! Can you believe that I'm also under a 100 days? Not sure how far under, since I don't have my ticker anymore, but I'm now 27 weeks, and in the baby book, it says that this week is the start of the THIRD TRIMESTER! Holy moly!!!
Have a great night everyone, I have to finish dinner, and DH wants to play Texas Hold'em! (not sure if I'll see him ever again when he gets on this computer to play his games! LOL!)
Sdmomma2b The PC's at work are way fast, miss that at home! I have Netzero high speed, but nothing compairs to how fast work's connection is! But, it's not supper slow or anything, I'm just spoiled... I'm just glad to be able to come in and not worry about someone walking by my desk! LOL!
Amanda Very glad to be online at home too! Now I don't have to be so 007 at work (although, you know I'll still be 007 for everything else! LOL!) It's so nice not to have to sneak around online, worrying about getting caught. At least now, with the office being bought out, I'm 99% sure that they are not going to be checking what I do with my time online for the next 2 months! I'm so not looking forward to the move...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Regarding work - I have a meeting with the new boss on Wed, not sure what to wear. They get more walk in traffic then our office does, so they dress more professionally. All my maternity clothes are casual - I may go with my all black outfit from Motherhood:

(which of course, I just found out is on sale - go figure!)
Does that look professional enough?

adoredh Thanks! I'm so impatient that I couldn't wait to buy most of that stuff. My mom and MIL bought some too. We're having a small shower as well, so I'm pretty sure that we'll still end up having to buy some of the major stuff. Good luck to you and Todd in decorating! I think that outfit is a great idea!
sdmama2be Thanks! It really did not take all that much work. The hardest part was painting and hanging the border. But even that only took a few days worth of work. You can do it!
cartersmommy I know, it's crazy isn't it?

Wahoo! We're up and running again.
Tulip-I'm so sorry about your grandmother.
Godsgift-Wow, you've done a lot with the nursery. Can't wait to see pictures.
Lorialys-You look great! I love your belly shots.

I posted this on LJ but I'll post here too.
How many times a day on average do you get Braxton-Hicks contractions?
I'm 27 weeks and I get them at least 3 times a day and sometimes as much as 5 or 6. I'm not worried, should I be?
Also, I've been getting that super sharp pain in just my lower right side when I walk. Even if it's just a light walk (like walking the dog). I called the Dr. and I have my 28 weeks appointment next week and the lame nurse just told me not to work out until then....ummm I want to work out! Are you guys getting these sharp pains? They don't feel like round ligament and it's only when I'm walking.
Also, I have been SO tired lately. Anyone else?

Tulip- My sympathies to you and your family over the loss of your grandma. I lost mine four years ago, and I often think of how she would've loved to have experienced this pregnancy with me.
Lorialys- Your nursery is sooooo adorable! Isn't it amazing how much difference a week makes in the size of the belly?!
LexyLou- I hear you on the tired issue, but have not experienced any BH contractions. I too have sharp pains, but they are in the upper right hand side (beneath my ribs). Sometimes I feel like the baby is pulling at them or something!!!! That's too bad the nurse wasn't of more assistance to you.
Lots of fun stuff happening here! All of the nursery talk and pics really wants me to get the ball rolling! I am using it as an incentive though (I have to move out of my teacherage rental first). YUCKY SORTING/PACKING = FUN DECORATING.

lexylou I haven't had any braxton hicks as of yet, or at least I don;t think I have. But I have had those same sharp pains you have described. Usually on my lower right side, and sometimes on my left. I'm the same as you, just regular ol walking. And I feel it more sharply everytime I take a step. It isn't everytime I walk though, but when it is, it usually doesn't quit untill I'm done walking. You'll have to let me know what your doc says. I was just planning on mentioning it at my next appt a few weeks away yet.
x post from wc
QOTD How much of your nursery do you have left to finish?
I have almost all of it left to do. Today I think I'm going to clean out the dresser that Daytona will be using. Dh's job is to clean out the closet in there and sort through all of his clothes. My dad is going to set up the crib sometime this month i think. Then I will wait until after the baby shower (assuming I have one, I haven't heard much about one yet) and go out and purchase everything I have left. I gues I feel like I have so much to do, but I can't do any of it yet.
Morning!
Doctor's appointment went well Friday. I gained 4 pounds in 4 weeks. A grand total of 14 so far (at 24w). My blood pressure was great! Baby's heartbeat was 151. I asked the doctor about PICA and he said that there are two things that it checks for... sugar and protein. He said the sugar levels are check at the GTT screening and he feels that will tell us if I will have sugar problems or not. As for the protein, to be consider having preeclampsia (sp?) you need both high blood pressure and protein in your urine. So until I have high blood pressure, he won't check my pee for protein. His response eased my mind.
I am finally joining the swollen feet club. I am slowly weeding out shoes that don't fit... especially all my cute sandals :(
DH and I had a busy but nice 4th weekend. Saturday had a picnic at my sister's house and were able to see the city's fireworks from there. Sunday had a picnic at DH's cousin's house. And Monday my parents had a picnic. Needless to say, I am picnic-out :p
I finished our registry Friday. WooHoo! I have about 130 items... I just hope I don't look too greedy.

Looking good CJ!
Marc used the fetal microphone last night to read Cinderella to Mackenzie. She seems to love it! It's the most that she's moved ever.... yesterday she was pretty quiet, but as soon as he started reading she went wild. He was so happy.... she doesn't even move that much during music time, so I think she really likes to hear his voice :D
Nursery: Well.... we own nursery furniture, but since we will be moving before the end of the year, it's just sitting around. It sucks not being about to do anything for her! The worst part is that I don't know when we are moving... soo it could be as soon as August or as last as November :(
Morning girls! I meant to post yesterday but my worst nightmares with my MIL are coming true. She has already begun her manipulative behavior again and I was so upset yesterday I didn't feel up to posting. DH and I talked about it yesterday and he is on board with me, and was to respond to his mom's e-mail this morning. Should be good, last time this happened during wedding planning she freaked. It all revolves around the shower and her not thinking we are spending sufficient time with his family. She is trying to manipulate the situation because she knows how much we adore his grandparents. She also gives us large gifts to use as a bribe later which I hate when that happens. Frankly its not like we aren't traveling 10 hours each way in a car for this thing (20 hours in the car over 3 days), which is a lot for 28 week pregnant lady in my book. Oh well, I told DH to put his foot down now or it will only get worse after the baby arrives. He finally sees how bad his mom can truly be. I know his e-mail will come off much too sweet for my liking, but in the end we are not giving into her which is what is most important to me.
Officially put down the deposit yesterday for the maternity photos, which will be in 2.5 weeks. Yeah!!!!
Long overdue, these are from last week -- my 24 week belly shots.

We spent the weekend shopping and cleaning. We went to BRU to look at gliders, boy was that exhausting. I added about 5 more things to our registry, I was really glad I had done most of it on-line in advance. If only they would actually make the on-line updates! :mad: Now I'm even more confused about gliders. Of course we both fell in love with the reclining glider which is the most expensive. It would cost more than the crib and we aren't sure if we want to fork over the money. I mentioned upgrading for baby #2 with the recline feature, but DH thinks if I want to we should just do it now. Anyone have any input? Is a reclining glider worth the extra cash?
Nursery: Crib is being delivered (and set up ;) ) on Friday. Painting is done. Picking up the dresser from my parents in 2.5 weeks. We decided on bedding just need to order it since BRU doesn't have it and I won't put it on the registry. Need to decide on the glider. Other than that, organize the closests and get the odds/ends for decorating. Wow, that's a long list! :eek:
Tulip: I'm so sorry about your grandmother. Even if it is unexpected it doesn't make it any easier.
Amanda and adoredh: Yeah on passing the glucose tests!
lorialys: Your nursery looks great! You are inspiring the rest of us to get our tails in gear :p
lml: Your bathroom is adorable!
Nancy: DH tried on a Bjorn at BRU and wants to put it on the registry. I convinced him to wait until he can try out a sling. We need to talk ;) I might have him slinging our 15 pound dog to win him over prior to October. He practices swaddling her already.
amtaylor: I'm sort of late in posting, but I would be as worried about your DH's work situation as you are. I'm sure he is being cautious but just doesn't want to worry you, hopefully it is peacefully resolved. Such a cute story about Cinderella!
cj: Welcome to the cankles club! My feet swell so bad if I'm not able to sit while commuting to work. Cute belly!

Hello everyone! We are finally back from our long weekend! It looks like this thread was busy while I was gone. Sorry, I am not even going to attempt SO's because it looks like I have several pages to go back and catch up on.
We had a great weekend. It was so nice to be able to be back with my family and hang out all weekend. I really wish DH could get a job back there so we could move back closer. We spent the whole weekend at my parents cabin and down at the lake. It was so nice to just hang out in the water all day and relax.
I was able to see the quilt that my mom is making for us. It is going to be so cute. I can't wait until she has it finished. I think she is going to have it done by our shower on Aug. 13th. I am excited to see the finished product!
No info on the DH's job that he applied for yet. They sent him an email last week saying they would be starting phone interviews this week so he is really hoping to hear something today to set one up. Please pray for us. This job would move us back to 2 hours from our family instead of 8!
I am going to try to take some belly shots at lunch time so hopefully I will have those to post this afternoon.
I am off to go try to catch up on this thread now!

QOTD: The Nursery: The dresser/changing table is in the room (along w/ ALL of DH's sporting equipment and extra clothing at the moment :rolleyes: ). We have the crib, it just needs to be put together. I have ordered the crib bumper, and that is all I've accomplished! I need to clean out/ revamp closet to maximize storage, find an armoire, order bedding, decide on window treatments, paint, etc. LOADS to do.
CJ- Congrats on great appt. results! Things sound like you're progressing very nicely- cute belly shots! I too am a bonafide member of the cankle club. All was fine until I went to N. Carolina two weeks ago. They blew up like puffer fish and haven't been the same since :(
Amber- I thankfully missed the huge heatwave you all have in NC. But it was still plenty humid for me!!! It was very fun, I could've hung out at the beach all week if we had time!
That is so cute that your DH reads/talks to your baby and that she responds that way! Here's hoping that he finds out about the job soon and you guys can move earlier as opposed to later- fingers crossed!
EJM- Oy! MIL issues. You have the right attitude- be firm up front, so she knows that you see right through her and won't be manipulated! That's also great the DH can understand/and even act on your perspective of the situation. You're right, it will only get worse when the baby comes- so good job in putting your foot down now!!!
I am also searching for "the" glider. I don't know much about reclining vs. regular, but do keep in mind where you'll put the glider post-baby(s) and how it will best serve your family down the road. If you think the recliner will be more functional in the long run (plus more comfy for you and baby now, then I'd go for it!!!)
A while back I posted in the WC Oct 05 mommies thread about "handling the onslaught of out-of-town visitors while you're trying to deliver a baby". I completely dodged the bullet and DH's parents told us last week that they will just wait until Christmas to fly out and visit and meet the baby!!! Here I was so worried that they'd come out a week before baby came and stay a week after!!! WHEW! I am so relieved. My MIL is a very stressful house guest. She is very invasive, controlling, and snoops around constantly whether you're home or not. It would've been very difficult to handle in addition to caring for a newborn. OH, HAPPY DAY!

Thanks for the support on the meeting with my "new" boss. Which is only in a half an hour. Here's the bummer - I've got the outfit, did the hair, and thought I grabed my make up on the way out to the car. I'm going to this meeting with no make up on!!!
I guess it's not that bad, since I rarely wear makeup in the summer due to my allergies (I usually rub everything off from itchy eyes and face) But I really did want to look my personal best... :(
For baby news - The Boy is moving around like crazy this morning! Wonder if he can tell I'm nervous? With him moving so much though, I haven't really thought about the meeting as much as I would have - so good boy, for providing mommy with a distraction when she needs it! :D
I'll come back and do SO's and let you guys know how it went, tonight from home (then I can spend more time in here!)
Have a great day and wish me luck!!!

I totally forgot to tell you girls the most exciting part of my weekend. I ate goat cheese and it was H-E-A-V-E-N. I eat cheese like its my job, DH and I usually (as food geeky as this sounds) have a cheese course a few nights a week after dinner. Well Bean put a huge damper on my cheese selection. Anyway, the wine store we frequent has a huge gourmet cheese counter. I guess I've asked enough times, or other women have, but they have now started labeling all their pasturized cheeses and recently began carrying a pasturized goat cheese. Of course it isn't quite the same as unpasturized, for a woman who has been deprived it was delicious! The amount of unpasturized cheeses they carry has increased a ton lately, and even Whole Foods had pitty on me and started carrying a pasturized Raclette cheese (one of my favorite winter meals). I am so darn excited :D , now if only they could do something about sushi.....

Hi ladies,
Quick drive by. Super busy at work since it's Quarter End.
Belly shots are TOO cute! I love them! :)
QOTD-Nursery, we have barely begun. We painted all the walls pink and next week we are going to tape out the bottom part for under the chair rail and the stripes. Hopefully I can paint the stripes next week too and then on the 23rd DH and a friend are going to put up the chair rail.
We have the bedding, but are waiting for the glider to come in to have all the furniture delivered. Hopefully that will be in the beginning of August. Then the chandelier will come mid August and I'll have that put up. I'm not expecting to finish the nursery until the beg/middle of September.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had my 1 hour Glucose test this morning. Went well. Lady wasn't very nice. As she's taking my blood she just says, "You know if you fail you'll have to come back for the 3 hour." GRRR...I'm not going to fail lady....I hope.
Tonight we have our first childbirth class. Super excited about that.
That's all that happening here. I'll have to take a 27 week belly shot for you all.
Other than that....
We've accomplished some BIG things in the last two days:
1. Decided on Health Coverage for Mackenzie
2. Decided on Life Insurance Policies and are starting the process next week
3. Picked a Daycare center. We just have to pay the $30 enrollment fee.
4. Scheduled hospital tour - next Tuesday evening
5. Scheduled meeting with potential pediatrician's office - Friday AM
Hopefully all this progress will help reduce some of my worries... ;)
Hi Levella43, LexyLou, amtaylor, and mcl!
(I love how you can see who's in the thread at the same time!)
The meeting went well, and not so well. It was good from the naive' stand point - very positive, he kept telling me he was impressed with my numbers (sales) that my bosses and manager have nothing but good to say about me. He told me he wants me to concentrate on my corporate sales more, since they only have one person who does that. That I would be able to have my insurance while I'm on maternity, that my hourly wage and vacation time would stay the same, blah blah blah. Then he said something, and I can't remember exactly how he worded it, but it was to the effect that he hopes that everyone will be able to make the transfer in the merge.
Warning bells went off in my head: 1) to me that sounds like a way out for him not to hire me - 2)everyone is way too positive about this... almost too happy/excited like they're trying to keep us calm. 3) he never once said when my start date was or that I was hired. 4) I think they're trying to keep us happy, so that they can "steal" our book of clients and not have to hire everyone in. For all I care, they can have my clients, if I don't go back to work after the baby is born, what do I care? BUT I want to be hired in now, so that I know my insurance is going to be covered when I do have the baby! I'm really not feeling as positive as I let everyone at work think. Even DH doesn't really realize how much I really think I'm going to get screwed on this...
At least I found out from my insurance that I can switch it to an individual insurace (for about $600 to $700 a month, but it's better then worring about a huge hospital bill)
I'll have to come back for SO's I promiss I'll get to them!!! :)
adoredh Sorry to hear you didn't get all the assurment you needed from your meeting. Is there a time frame that your company is looking at regarding when the new company should hire everyone.
amtaylor Great belly shots! You have really gotten a lot done lately! Maybe your list will inspire me!
sdmamatobe I love your belly shots! Did you get the report cards done?
Lex how was the childbirth class? I am going to call on ours today.
I have my followup u/s in about an hour. They are going to check to see if my placenta moved up. Pray for me that it has! I also plan on asking about the GTT test. My dr still hasn't said anything to me about it.
Nursery We still haven't done anything for the nursery. Since we still aren't 100% sure where we will be living, we are holding off. I have a pretty good plan in my head on what we are going to do though.
QOTD Has anyone started stocking up on diapers yet? I think Dh and I are going to start buying a pack of diapers everytime time we go to the store so it isn't so overwhelming when the baby gets here. I think we will probably buy a variety of sizes...mostly 1's and 2's. I am not quite sure how many to get or what brand though. Any suggestions? I guess the good thing is, if we buy them at Walmart, we can always return them if they end up not being a good brand or the wrong size.
:D 25 weeks :D
Nothing new to report. Waiting for what's left of Tropical Storm Cindy to move into the area this evening.
Great Belly Shots amtaylor and sdmamatobe
QOTD I have thought about buying diapers ahead of time, and have mixed feelings. I did register for the pampers swadlers NB and stage 1. I have heard many good things about them from my sister and fellow friends. Although people have cautioned me about buying too many diapers before hand because all babies are different, therefore not all brands and types work. I think it's personal preference in what you do. I will have a couple boxes before hand, but not too many. I think going to Wal-Mart is a smart idea... at least you know you can return them :)
So far, we've bought a pack of Huggies and two packs of Kroger ultra comfort, all in size 1. The Kroger brand we got for only $0.13 each with our Plus card. They are having a big diaper sale on the mega packs and boxes at Babies R Us through the end of the month, so you might find a deal there. The size 3 diapers in the sales flyer are priced at $0.09 each :)
Consumer Reports rated diapers last year, here was the breakdown:
1 Pampers Custom Fit Cruisers $0.30 $46.50
2 Huggies Supreme $0.32 $49.60
3 Pampers Baby-Dry $0.28 $43.40
4 Huggies Ultratrim $0.29 $44.95
5 Luvs Ultra Leakguards $0.23 $35.65
6 Baby Basics Ultra Leakage Protection (Albertson's) $0.21 $32.55
7 America's Choice Ultra Thin Stretch (A&P) $0.22 $34.10
8 Ultra Comforts (Kroger) $0.21 $32.55
9 White Cloud (Wal-Mart) $0.21 $32.55
10 Simply Dry (Stop & Shop) $0.19 $29.45
11 Loving Touch (Target) $0.21 $32.55
12 Little Ones (Kmart) $0.22 $34.10
The #'s are price per diaper & price per month. Almost all of them rated "Excellent" for resisting leaks. They were rated on resisting leaks, keeps baby dry, fits a variety of kids, & fastener quality.
Best value:
5 Luvs 23˘
6 Baby Basics (Albertson’s) 21˘
Hi ladies-
Hope everyone is having a good morning. I'm horrified about the events in London. I've been trying to get ahold of my friends there but all the lines are down...not surprising. I'm sure they are ok, but it's still a horrible day for them.
QOTD-I'm holding off on diapers. I did register for some of the N size pampers but I don't want to buy too many for a couple of reasons:
1) If she's a big baby she won't ever fit in to N's
2) If she's a small baby she will be in N's for a longer period of time and won't fit in to 1's.
3) People say you have to see what brand works best for you and your baby...I've heard Pampers for a girl and Huggies for a boy but it totally depends....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Child Birth Class was fun. We talked about effacing and dialating, etc...
I did learn that you time your contractions not from end to beginning but from beginning to beginning.
So if you start one at 12 and it goes until 12:02 and the next starts at 12:04 then they are 4 minutes apart not 2....interesting.
We did some slow breathing excercises and our husband's got to pinch us to simulate (whatever) a contraction while we relaxed and breathed through it....yea...we couldn't stop laughing. Too funny.
I'm just excited for two weeks from now when we get to have the tour of the birth center. :)

Hi all!
I'm back from vacay, but have been really swamped. Everytime I try to post, the site goes down. :mad: Anywho, no time for so's, but curious if anyone has found childcare yet?? If so, what sort of questions did you ask? DH and I are working on this now and a friend of ours has some good referrals. Thoughts? TIA!

hi all --
Lex I pray your friends are ok.
Tiger hope all goes well with your appt!
amtaylor thanks for the info on teh diapers! I always wondered what the price difference was and how it compared to quality.
QOTD Nope not buying diapers. I have severely sensitive skin and DH's is sensitive as well. I'm afraid that baby may be allergic to one brand and not the other so I registered for 1 box to try them out. If they work then we'll buy them...
We get to have our hospital tour this Sunday! I'm excited!! Sorta scared because it is getting more and more real -- as if baby chris' kicks are not real enough!
Also i think i had my first braxton hicks last night. It was uncomfortable but not painful and it only lasted for about a minute. My uterus got REALLY tight and i got a bit short of breath...
?? Has anyone started researching pediatricians? How soon do we have to make a choice?
anyway. hope everyone is having a good day :)

diapers we use a combo of cloth and disposable, so i have been building up my stash of cloth dipes for The Boy. i think im all set for those. as far as disposables go i will probably buy 1 package of the nb swaddlers or huggies and use that and the package we get at the hospital, then see where we are. i didnt like the swaddlers so much because there isnt any elastic in the back so if there is a big poo explosion (and there always is with an infant) it just goes right up and out the back of the dipe. maybe they have redesigned them though. i wouldnt recommend buying a whole bunch of dipes, as tempting as it may be, because you may find that a certain brand doesnt work for your baby or that you just dont like them and then you are stuck with all these diapers and you still have to buy more.
i decided to get my glucose screen tomorrow (yuck!) and my next appt is on tuesday. i forgot to ask about my placenta, which is apparently close to my cervix and may pose a problem during delivery. hopefully it will move out of the way. i suppose ill get another u/s to see where it is as i get closer to my edd. yay!

godsgift77: We are meeting with our first pediatrician tomorrow. The office we are going to does a prenatal seminar and then will talk to each parent in detail as well. There were a few things that we looked for and decided we HAD to have:
* Hours other than 8-5 M-F: This office has earlier and later hours as well as "sick" hours on Saturday and Sunday
* Insurance - do they take yours and do they file for you... filling on your own is a pain in the butt! Do you have to pay up front or be billed later?
* This doctor participates with our hospital and will have access so they can visit us during/after delivery
I also have a list of questions that I plan to ask tomorrow:
1. Average wait time for appointment
2. How are call-in questions addressed and can the doctor come to the phone during office hours
3. Will we see the same doctor each time or be rotated through
4. How often are well-baby checkups
5. Explain your approach to pediatrics in general: sleep arrangement, feeding, aggressive vs. conservative treatment, etc.
6. Doctor's experience and training
Surftraitor:
We've picked a daycare just this week! Here are a few things we looked for:
1. Make sure the center has low ratios. The infant room at our center has 4 babies to each teacher
2. CLEANLINESS
*the kids ... look them over. Are their faces and hands relatively clean?
*Look at the classroom, too. Walk around, scout it out, be nosy. Are there crumbs on the floor? Does it look like spills have been cleaned up, or left to dry on the floor. Are the carpets relatively clean, or are they covered in stains? Look in the cribs ... do the linens look clean? Kids should have their own cribs, and the linens should be washed every single day.
3. HEALTH CONCERNS
*ask about their diapering system
*ask how they deal with sick children
4. CHILD/TEACHER INTERACTIONS
*watch how the teachers behave with the children
*Ask about infants who are awake but not crying... what interactions do they get. Are they left in the crib, do they play on a floor gym, etc.
*Pay attention to the atmosphere in the room ... do the teachers and kids seem happy and comfortable, or are they stiff and unnatural and generally unhappy? How long do kids cry before they're tended to? Watch how the kids behave with the teachers? Do they seem comfortable and affectionate?
5. FOODS
*ask what foods are provided by the center, and what you need to bring in. Some centers allow breast milk, some don't
6. SECURITY
* The center should have a list of people who are allowed to pick up your child if you are unable to do so
* At the center we picked, you have to be buzzed into the area where the children are... there's no way to get in without knowing the code or being allowed in.
7. OPEN DOOR POLICY
*You should be encouraged to visit your child as often as you want and you should feel welcome in the classroom at all times. There are actually centers that do not allow parents to drop by unannounced!
There are a ton more things you could ask... but that's all I can think of right off.. hope this helps! :)
Oh... I got bored and decided to play with the camera.. thought I'd share :) 26 weeks, 1 day

Hello everyone! Geez, I've fallen behind in shoutouts. :eek:
Nursery - We have a bedroom that is all cleaned out, just need to get it painted and can then start moving furniture in. I still need to get a dresser. FIL is building us a crib. We bought a glider and ottoman this past weekend. Hopefully DH can get it painted after he gets back from London in early August. BTW, he leaves for London next Thursday for 2 1/2 weeks and the whole bombing thing has me scared. :(
Diapers - I bought some size 1-2 Pampers from Sam's a few weeks ago. I am going to get a small pack of Newborn diapers to have on hand. I figure I can away return them if they don't fit or sell them on ebay at the very least.
Daycare - We found an older lady a few weeks ago for daycare. We visited her in her home and took a look around her house and backyard (it was important to us that she have a backyard that was fenced in.) We asked her about the normal...rate, hours, foods she serves, activities, CPR training/first aid training.
Well, we FINALLY had our big u/s today! (Yeah, yeah, I know....my doctor is weird in waiting until this late.) Anyway the technician and a student started the u/s. They asked us what we thought we were having and I said boy, DH said girl. The tech asked the student what she thought she saw and she whispered it to the tech and he said he thought the same thing. The problem was the umbilical cord was inbetween the baby's legs, so they were having a hard time telling what it was. Finally, the cord moved just enough for them to get a snapshot and confirm what they thought.......
It's a BOY!!!!!
I tried to tell DH that mother's intuition isn't hardly ever wrong. We got a picture of the penis but it is hard to deciper since the legs aren't really visible like some of you other ladies pictures have been. To me it looks like a nasal aspirator. :D
There's a blue arrow to the nasal aspriator...uh, I mean penis and scrotum. LOL
http://images.snapfish.com/34439%3A2323232%7Ffp54%3Dot%3E2346%3D93%3C%3D43%3A %3DXROQDF%3E2323953%3A999%3C3ot1lsi
This one is where the put the color on....the red streak is where the baby is blowing out the fluid he has been inhaling. The tech said babies are practicing breathing in and out the amniotic fluid. We also got to see him yawn and put his hand up by his mouth. The tech thought he might have been sucking his thumb when he did that.
http://images.snapfish.com/34439%3A2323232%7Ffp54%3Dot%3E2346%3D93%3C%3D43%3A %3DXROQDF%3E2323953%3A94552ot1lsi
Hi girls! I've had the worst time getting on this site today, glad to see I'm not the only one.
jen: Congrats on the boy!!!! Nasal aspirator, made me LOL
amtaylor: those photos are great! Thanks for the daycare list, I really need to start making calls.
Pediatricians: Made 2 phone calls today and neither practice does pre-natal visits!! :confused: Not sure about just putting a doctor on our hospital pre-registration form, BUT these two doctors in two different practices came highly recommended by both our neonatologist neighbor and the local parents group I joined. So we may just wing it, we'll see. I guess if I really don't like them then we can switch. Our insurance is good, so we can go to most doctors.
Diapers: Haven't even thought about it! I'm in denial about this baby arriving. The girls on WC were posting about the number of weeks left until our babies start arriving, and its freaking me out :eek:
Ok, I'm bad but I peeked at our registry and someone bought our stroller (our most expensive non furniture item). We use a rewards credit card that gives us gift cards to stores including BRU. We charge DH's MBA tuition to it so we are close to $400 in gcs for BRU so I think we are going to splurge on the reclining glider since we don't have to buy the stroller ourselves. I read on a ton of mommy boards that people couldn't live without it or wished they had gotten it. DH said I should go for it, if I think it will be used that much more.
Oh, I also signed us up for Infant CPR on September 24th. They have two classes that day and one was already full! I couldn't believe it so I'm glad we at least got in.
Have a good night!
On my way out the door, but my manager just stopped by.....I got approved for 3-10 hour days starting in January!!!! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

Hi all
EJM Congrats on the working 3 10s..I am super jealous
amtaylor Your belly shots are adorable..I think I am inspred ;)
Jen congrats on yourboy!!! Great US pics too
Surftraitor I asked all of what amtaylor already said..especially focused on the interaction when my baby is awake and not crying. I also asked about teacher turnover, teacher education levels/background, where do they get the substitutes from (when a regular teacher is sick), how often do they wash/change the toys. We really looked at how the infants were with the teachers (were they comfortable etc) Our center has a daily "report card" as well as monthly "learning goals" for social, emotional and physical development that you develop with the teachers. Security was also big, same buzzing in/parent code situation and encouragement of walk in visits (Tony will be able to go every day on his lunch hour). For me it was very important to find the right place to help raise our little girl and we are paying far more than we anticipated, but this place just felt right compared to the others that we visited. HTH
Lex Hope that all your friends in London are safe..
Pediatricians and Diapers Honestly we haven't even looked into either. Our preregistration form asked for a name but when I called they said I could inform them alter..I need to ask for references. Diapers, hmmm I should probably start stocking up but of course I will procrastinate on this as well :rolleyes: and be paniced come October.

Wow! This site has been crazy today. I can't seem to get in and post often and I didn't get all the notifications...lame.
amtaylor-What adorable belly shots! Did you have your DH take them or did you put them on a timer? I always love the heart with the hands over the belly shot. TOO cute!
jenjen-Congrats on your BOY!!! I can't believe you waited so long. You have patience girl! :)
EJM-YEAH! How exciting to see things move off your registry. No one has bought us anything yet but I know DH's mom wants to buy us our Peg Perego and my girlfriend bought us the Snugride...plus my mom said her friend is going to buy our Maclaren...yippeee!!
congrats on 3 days a week! That's awesome!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel like such a slacker! I haven't even begun to look into pediatricians or daycare.
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to come back to work right away after baby...the earliest would be when she is 7 months old so it's a little too soon for me to look + I'm hoping to do a part-time in the office schedule so I think we are going to play it by ear but I really have no excuse for not looking in to pediatricians! YIKES!
ETA: My friend's in London are all AOK. I haven't talked to one but I'm pretty sure he both lives and works in the South Side and all the bombings were on the North Side...I'll talk with him tomorrow, hopefully.
Thanks guys! I cheated and used the self-timer. My husband doesn't really get the whole idea of belly shots, so he would just whine if I asked him to take them :rolleyes:
amtaylor Great belly shots. I may have to steal the heart idea for my pregnancy scrapbook. Too cute :D
Peds I am just going with the one that I went to as a child. It's actually the only decent one in our area. My neice goes there and my sister really enjoys the new doctors and knows the old ones that we had. I love the fact that they have a seperate time for well-checks for infants up to 6 months so no sick children are in the office.
jenjen congrats on your baby boy!!
EJM congrats on getting your part-time schedule!! How exciting things are starting to be bought off the registry. The word is starting to get that our is finished. Now I just have to be stern with myself and not peak ;)
QUESTION Anyone else having a burning sensation at the top of your belly. I have this sensation on and off and I am thinking it could be coming from leaning over at my desk or at home doing stuff and causing a crease between my BB's and ever so growing belly. I am getting it now as we speak. The girl in my office said that her midwife asked if she had any burning sensations because it could be from the baby pushing on her intestines :confused:
Diapers, we've decided to go the disposable route for the first month and see how the laundry situation goes before we decide on cloth or not. Haven't bought any diapers yet though. I'm hoping to get some at my showers first.
Day Care, don't have to worry about this yet since I have a year off. Don't know what I'm going to do after that. SIL said she could take the baby 2-3 days a week. It depends if I change jobs or not. I should say depends on my new job b/c I'm not coming back to this one.
Went to the doctor yesterday and I have a bronchial infection. Lovely cough that I have is now explained. I sound like I smoke 3 packs a day.
Finally got to hear the h/b for the first time. They weren't able to count the beats though b/c baby's h/b and mine are in synch. The nurse says that happens in less then 1% of pregnancies and the baby and I must be very bonded. It was so cool, you could hear the baby's h/b and then in the middle mine would beat. You couldn't get them seperately.
I'm off this afternoon for a week long vacation. I'll catch up with you guys on July 18th. :D
jenjen Congrats on your boy!!! How exciting that you were Finally able to find out!
Tulip Have a great vacation!
amtaylor Great belly shots! I love the heart on the belly.
Day Care I haven't started looking into this yet because I am still hoping we will be moving before then. I did hear from my neighbor that the lady across the street is planning on staying home with her boy (3 years) and the other neighbor's little girl (4 months) starting in October. I may talk to her about watching our baby girl starting in January. I don't really know her very well but I have talked to her a couple of times when we are out on walks. She seems really nice and is always outside playing with her little boy. It would be so convienant to have our daycare be right across the street!
My appt went really well yesterday. I had the u/s to check on the placenta. It has moved up...but barely. The dr. seemed ok with it though because he said it was clear of the cervix so everything should be fine. He thought it would continue to move up a little as I progressed through the pregnancy. They weren't going to really look at the baby at all yesterday since they were just checking the placenta, but I asked so they humored me. It was great because we were just able to focus on the face. I saw our little girl yawning and rubbing her eyes. So precious! Unfortanately, the baby's head was right by my cervix so they had to get out the dildocam in order to get a good shot of the placenta. I hate that thing!
I scheduled my next appt for July 21. I will do the GTT at that time. I was under the assumption that the drink we have to drink is orange flavored. Mine looks like it is a lime flavored drink. Has anyone ever had anything besides the orange?
last time mine was cola flavored. i HATE cola anyway and this totally put me off. it was like regular coke with an extra pound of sugar. i am hoping for any other flavor BUT cola this time.
QOTD we havn't started buying diapers this time around yet. but for dd, we started stalking up early. mostly newborn- size 2. babies r us has a great exchange policy on diapers. i don't even think some of the diapers were purchased there and they let me exchange them. so even if you get to much of 1 size, exchanging shouldn't be a problem as long as they arn't opened.
in the beginning we tried just about every brand. newborn huggies wern't bad. but our favorite ended up being pampers swaddlers. and now the cruisers.
dd had alergic reactions to pretty much any other diaper than the pampers swaddlers. but before she started having reactions, we discovered that we liked them better.
we also have a favorite wipey. we like the huggies non scented better than any others (or the target brand compared to huggies) they are thicker than the pampers and just seem to be easier to get the messy diapers clean.
hth! :)
So, I just typed this huge post and CC threw it out. ugh. I did all these s/o's and everything! :mad:
Here's a brief version...have been feeling very tired this week. Not sure if its a phase of the "joy" of the 3rd tri. Also, I felt miserable last night. My lower abdomen was really hard (baby's head?) and I felt a lot of pressure down there. Flipper was very active too. I felt I had zero control over my body.
Thanks to everyone on the congrats on our baby boy! We are just thrilled. We tossed around some names last night like Hunter, Ethan, Jacob and Luke. Hopefully we'll get it down to two and then when I met the man for the first time, hopefully, he'll look like one of the two names we picked out. BTW, does anyone know the website where you can type in a name and get a list of potential nicknames. I think someone mentioned it a while back.
EJM - That great about all the gift certificates to BRU. I've been meaning to looking into getting a reward credit card and the one you have sounds awesome. Congrats on your three day work week! I'm so jealous also!
sdmama2be - Sounds like you have a great daycare lined up. I'm sure that was a relief to find such a place.
LexyLou - I'm glad your London friends are safe. How scary! That's great you take 7 months off to be with Ella. I'm jealous of you too! :p
amtaylor - What great pics of your belly! And to think you did it by yourself....that is great.
cj - nope, I haven't had the burning sensation on top of my belly yet. But I've noticed my belly and the shelf between the top of the belly and my bbs is making it hard to sit comfortably for any period of time.
Tulip - Sorry to hear about the bronchial infection. How sweet that you and baby's heartbeat were in sync. I've never heard of such a thing.
Tiger - I'm crossing my fingers your DH will hear something soon on the job. I've seen a few admissions job open up in McPherson (I think) but nothing along the lines of what your DH does. Congratulations on your placenta moving. So I assume this means that a VB is possible then.
1 mommy - I'll have to remember your tip about huggies being the better of wipes. Thanks!
surftraitor - Sorry to hear that the third trimester exhaustion has found you.
I'll be going to Michigan next week for a conference. Hopefully the weather there is cooler there than it has been here and I can get some relief from these swollen ankles.
Tiger: I've only had the orange stuff, but lime might not be too bad... I love lime :)
This morning we met with our first pediatrician's office. Even though they answered every question almost 100% the way I wanted, I'm just not sold. I can't put my finger on why, but it just wasn't right. Marc really disliked them, so I guess that's a good thing. The doctors seemed okay, but nothing special. We have a prenatal visit scheduled with another office on Tuesday. I'm 99% sure that we will be going with this new office. We already know one of the doctors from a Babies R Us seminar we attended. We really liked him from the moment we met him. He seems to share a lot of our beliefs and feelings and is a lot more personable than the doctors today. It's a farther drive, but probably will be worth it. I just hope that his partners are as nice!
definetly go with a ped that you absolutly love. we just pretty much picked one with kaimi and really regreted it the first year. we only stuck with him because she had so many ear infections. but in june she saw her new highly recommended ped, and i loved, love, love her! 110% better.
so really take your time and pick one out that you feel comfortable with. it really will be worth while!
This thread moves way too fast! I think I'm going to have to stick to doing just updates in here and shout-outs in WC, it's too hard to keep up with two threads! Sorry girls, but I am reading along and I may start doing shout-outs again in here if I can, okay?
We had our appointment today! It went well. Luke's heart-rate was 151 and the nurse found it immediately, unlike the last two times where she had a hard time distinguishing mine and his. She said I'm measuring great and looking good. She gave me the glucose drink for next time, and said that after the next appointment (3 weeks) we'll start the every 2 week appointments! I asked for ped's recommendations, she said she'd get me them next time. As well as the cord blood donation info. We talked about BH contractions a little bit, and discussed my wishes to put together and birth plan and go over it with her.
My next appointment is July 29th and we'll do the 1-hour GTT then.
Other than that, not much new here. Luke's movements are getting much much stronger. Yesterday I swear he was using me as a punching/kicking bag all day! I'm pretty sure he's head down, because I've been getting a lot of kicks in the upper right side of my tummy, and it starts to get sore after awhile. Yesterday I'm pretty sure I felt a knee and another foot at the same time. Crazy soccer baby!
Happy Friday all,
It's still super busy at work, but I like it. :)
I fly out tonight to SF for one last trip. I'm going to help my mom do my shower invites.
I'm so excited, my shower up North is going to be between 35-50 people! My mom is hiring a caterer to come in and cook. It's going to be an all woman more traditional shower...
The next weekend is my shower here in San Diego. Our friend's are throwing it and it's more of a BBQ than an actual shower. It's co-ed. I think there will also be like 40 people but I don't think they will all bring gifts.
Most of the guys will just come to party and I think the girls will do more of the shower thing. I'm really excited for it. It will cool to have one last party with all our friends.
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been by in awhile - busy busy at work!
I can't believe I'm 28 wks today - woohoo for the 3rd trimester! It is so weird to think that I'm this far already and it's a sigh of relief knowing that if for some reason Carter was born today, he'd be ok. Only 12 wks to go! :D
Funnily enough, when I hit 27 wks last Saturday, all of a sudden I was uncomfortable....like the 3rd trimester uncomfortableness instantly began. DH says he's not going to let me read anymore books or be online because so that I don't get "talked into having symptoms." Whatever! ;) Part of the uncomfortableness is that we were out on a boat last Saturday and the wind kicked up late in the afternoon and it was horrible getting that boat back to the launch. Chad & Liz, being out on a boat is fine (according to my doc) and I've been out at least 4 times this summer and haven't had any problems. The doc also said that even though it was rough on my body last Saturday being out there w/ the boat banging around, the baby is so cushioned that he didn't notice a thing. I had some cramping but I am certain that it was because I was using my abdominal muscles to hold myself still in the boat. But he assured me that it's really difficult to damage the baby from that. So, no worries about boating.....even if you get caught in whitecap water! ;)
On the note of cramping, Lex, besides the cramping from the boating, I've had some of the same pains that you were describing a couple pages back. It's annoying but doc says it's likely stretching. I've also been having BH on and off the last couple weeks - I swear one day earlier this week I had one that lasted all day! My belly was so tight and then the next day people were telling me I had grown so maybe the tightness was my belly skin rebeling against additional growth? LOL!
Carter's still being pretty active. I'm feeling kicks up at the bottom of my ribs on the right side now and it's become harder to breathe. He's also become so fun to play with - if I poke at him, he pokes back. He was doing that off and on for awhile but now I think he has more conscious control of his responses so it's really fun. I'm ready to play with him w/o having skin and uterus in between!
Daycare - We've secured a spot at my SIL's home daycare. It's such a blessing because Carter will be w/ family and if there is any person in the whole world (besides DH & I of course) that I would want to care for him, it's her. It's also halfway between our house and my work so it's convenient. And $125 per wk! Yay!
Nursery - Still not one thing done yet. :( My family comes in to visit next weekend and leave on the 23rd so we're planning to get right on it as soon as they head home! We had all the carpets cleaned upstairs last week and haven't moved the furniture back yet so we talked about painting both the nursery and guest room this weekend. Yay! We then have to sand and repaint the crib and bookcase.
Diapers - We're doing disposables. I think if I was going to be a SAHM I would be up for cloth but I feel like that would be too much work for SIL since her other kids aren't cloth and we travel so often that disposables will be easier. So far we've been giving a package of Huggies sz 1 and a few Pamper Swaddler samples. I had planned on stocking up throughout the pg but obviously haven't. Probably better that way since I don't know what will end up working best.
Peds - Haven't given it one thought. I'm so bad! One of my best gf's who has a 1 yr old has my same insurance, used my same OB clinic and gave birth at the same hospital as I will and I know she loves her ped so I might just use the same one.
Lex - Just wanted to add real quick that I'm glad your friends in London are ok. I have family and friends on the southside and the eastside that are all ok as well. I was really worried though bc my good friend Charlie works right near Russell Square - fortunately he was at work already when it happened.
Ok, I'm off to start taping for painting! Have a wonderful weekend ladies! :D
i also have been having braxton hicks off and on the last couple of weeks. by the way, i am week 29 now. i can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going. my son has been so active and he's using my belly as a punching/kicking bag. i, too, have been having tightness of the belly. it is so uncomfortable for me when that happens. it's so tight that i feel my belly button is going to pop out (still an innnie). also, when my tummy is super tight, that's when babe decides to punch/kick right in my belly button :eek: also, my 1 hour glucose was 136 :( . i spoke with the nurse and she said the doctor will let me know if i need to do a 3 hour one. her parameter is 65-130 as a normal level. when i called the doctor's office the day before my 1 hour test, i was told that i won't need to fast. i actually had lots of sweets the night before and a glass of juice before i went to the appointment. hopefully, i won't have to do the 3 hour test. i still haven't heard from my doctor. hope that everyone is having a great weekend. i actually am having a 4 day weekend. :D
by the way, do we now have 12 boys?
braxton hicks- i got a good share of them yesterday. but other than that i don't get them to often.
i have a drs appt tues, i will be 25 weeks, so i don't know if i will be taking the glucose test or not. may be to early. but when i took it with my dd it really didn't taste that bad, flat orange crush soda.
something cute to share: we always tell kaimi baby kai is in mommys tummy and show her my tummy.
well kaimi has started saying baby kai is in her tummy and she lifts up her shirt to show us baby kai is in her tummy too. and if she see's a baby on tv, it is baby kai to her :)
Morning girls! I hope everyone had a great weekend. We ended up being rather productive in the nursery without meaning to. An appointment I had was canceled on Saturday, so DH and I went to the store where we bought our crib to look at the gliders. We found one we liked, with the recline, and then headed to BRU to see how it compared to the one we liked there. Unfortunately for our wallet, we could not get the comfy seat from the baby furniture store out of our heads as we were sitting in the chair in BRU. We talked about it, and then came home where I searched on-line to try and find a better deal. If anyone is interested in a Dutailier, Baby Catalog is having a sale and free shipping right now. We had picked out the fabric in the store, so we knew what we wanted and I ordered it last night on-line. All in all, I ended up saving $200 :D over the baby furniture store for the exact same chair and stool by ordering on-line. They also are running a sale on the Colgate Classica mattresses, which I got (even with $16 shipping) for $25 cheaper than the local store.
Our crib was delivered and set-up on Friday and DH and I LOVE it! I couldn't be happier with our choice. Once we have a little more done in the room, I'll take and post a few pictures.
On the actual Bean front, I have a permanent foot in my right rib so sitting has become rather uncomfortable unless I lean back or to the left. :rolleyes: Since I sit all day, I'll have to think of something to get the baby to move.
DH has now decided he likes the name Avery for a girl. I've spent more hours than I'd like to count talking him out of names that no one could pronounce, so this is a relief. I'm thinking we'll go to the hospital with 2 names for each gender then pick once Bean pops out. We like a few "A" names, and DH's co-worker is due for their second child next week. They have picked out an "A" name as well but won't tell people what it is until the birth. I could care less, but DH doesn't want to use the same name they do. So far our front runners are:
Madeleine Grace
Avery Regan or Elizabeth
Noah ????
Aidan Thomas
Hope everyone has a good day!
