I'm trying to figure out what to get myself from Amazon for my birthday. :p My sister gave me a $50 gift card. She was insistent that I buy something for myself, not for the baby. But all I can think of right now is buying stuff for the baby!! If you guys could get anything from Amazon right now, what would it be?
I'd probably get something "pampering related" like some bubble bath or something. Or a movie I wanted.

School is going wonderfully! I love our new schedule and I'm hoping that we will be able to keep it. My students have been really well and tolerant of everything that's new and not so fun.
I was suppose to have my doctor's appointment yesterday, but they called at lunch and rescheduled. The doctor was in the emergency room, so I'm now going on Thursday, Sept. 1st.
Our final childbirth class was last night and one of the couples came and she was no longer pregnant! She had the baby 6 weeks early on Tuesday. He's doing really well and weighted 5lbs 4ozs. That's pretty scary seeing that Wednesday is 6 weeks for me... I really need to get on the ball and get all the little stuff that we need in case she comes sooner than expected. It really got Marc to thinking too... he's going to be in Salemburg for training the next 3 days, and he gave me the contact number. He's been there numerous times and has never given it to me... can we say nervous!

Jill, you are NOT allowed to give birth yet...what are you, 32 weeks? At least you're past the magic number of 27 weeks, but still...the boy has to hold out for 5 more weeks, at least. Tell him he's grounded. btw...the drug you got was probably Terbutaline. It is very commonly used to stop labor.
Lorene, I think I'd probably wait to use the gift card until after the baby gets here and then I'd buy clothes. Either that or a nice robe that you can wear for late night feedings and when you don't feel like really getting dressed during maternity leave. I figured that was why my crotch hurt...I kinda had a feeling she was getting engaged because my belly has dropped a little and I'm walking as if I'm walking around the baby. I don't feel like the baby is going to fall out yet, though.
amtaylor, I know how you feel. I think you're due one day before me because I'll be 34 weeks on Thursday. I really think she'll get here at 36 to 38 weeks though and so I'm trying to prepare the house as much as I can. I'm just hoping to make it through all my Bradley classes so I can be as prepared for birth as possible.

Umm...has anyone noticed there's already a May 2006 Moms thread? Do you realize we'll have 7 month old babies when they give birth? We haven't even had our kids yet and they're growing up so fast. :eek: :p

Holy cow!!! I saw the thread and was amazed that we're already at a May baby thread but the fact that our babies will be 7 mos by then is crazy!! :eek:
jh124 - Sorry you had to go in but I'm glad is all ok! Take care of yourself! Yep, terbutaline, that's what I had last wk too...great drug isn't it? :rolleyes: Love how jittery it makes you. I hope your doc clears you for getting back to life.

Hi everyone,
Popping in to say we're dealing with a scare on my end too--my coworker. She's due 10/26 and her water broke yesterday morning. She's at the hospital and they're hoping to keep the baby from delivering for another week in order to get the lungs to develop further. I was surprised. I had no idea that the baby could stay put that long once the water broke. In addition, my boss is having a joint shower for us tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately, she cannot be there. :(
So, I'm due 10/2, my boss is 10/13 and aforementioned coworker is 10/26. Technically, I should go first (in a perfect world of healthy babies and uneventful pregnancies). I suspect I'll be the last to go, as my boss has gestational diabetes and they're monitoring the baby every week. I have a feeling that over the next few weeks I'm going to be envying these women as they'll be moms and I'll still be in training. Ack.

Hi ladies,
I had my check up on Mon. everything is fine. Nothing new. SHe thinks the baby is about 4.5- 5 pounds, but she said she will get more accurate as I get closer to the end. I was thinking hmmm this is pretty close! The baby has not dropped yet even though I thought my tummy shaped changed. She thinks the head is down (but didn't seem 100% about that :confused: )
lorialys ooh that reminds me I got a gift cert. for my b-day too (to motherwear) Im going to order something today! Let us know what ya get!
Chad and Liz glad your feeling better!
hmbay what a nice surprise from your co-workers.
amtaylor OMG 6 weeks early, I am there already. I would SO not be ready. I started packing my bag (but not much is in it ;) ) That is funny about DH giving you the #. I notice that if I wake up in the middle of the night DH comes out and finds me to see if I am OK. I promised him I would wake him up if I go into labor.
lml41981 I really think she'll get here at 36 to 38 weeks though and so I'm trying to prepare the house as much as I can. I'm just hoping to make it through all my Bradley classes so I can be as prepared for birth as possible. I don't think the baby will get here early, but the classes started a bit late. Our last one is the week we are due! I don't know if we will make it through all the classes or not. I have been replaying and replaying in my mind all the stuff I need to do around here. I am not getting anything done though. Every time I think about it, I want too, but I have no energy to actually DO anything.
OMG - I forgot to mention I FELL OFF THE BED LAST NIGHT :eek: Thank goodness it was just the top half of me and I fell right into a pile of clothes sitting on the side table of my bed (good thing I didn't put them away yet) I gave DH a heartattck. I was trying so hard to get comfy that I didn't sit all the way on the bed and fell right off. I was laughing so hard, I couldn't believe I did that, nothing got broken or even bruised. Just a warning to everyone be careful, now I get in bed with the light ON first and then we turn it off!
Have a great day everyone!

amtaylor Glad school is going great!
Surftraitor Sorry to hear about your coworker.

I'm still around! Little A.J. is doing just fine. I have another doctor appointment tomorrow so we'll see what that says!
Here's the double stroller we just bought for our boys...

I got all of A.J.'s clothes washed and now we wait! We also scheduled ourselves for a c-section on October 17th. This is my second c-section. The doctors and I decided it was the safest option for the baby.
Well, I need to get my butt to bed here! I will post some more to you ladies soon!

lml41981 Thanks for the tip. I think I get it – I slip the floss under my ring then wrap it toward my fingernail then pull the ring off? Or will the ring just come off? I’m sorta desparate – I so don’t want to have them cut off :( Sorry about your MIL and the down pour! As far as the commute – I’m in the Los Angeles area and 45 mins is normal! LOL! I think it would be worth it for the better school system alone… We built 2 years ago and I have CERTAINLY not regretted it!
lorialys I know this is going to sound bad but I was so happy to read that I won’t have to pump and dump if I have a drink! Thanks for that info :D
jh124 Sorry about the pre-term labor. Rest up!
hmbay I love surprises! How sweet of your coworkers!
Nope – according to that survey I’m not going into labor anytime soon – Thank GOD!
Got my hospital bag finished last night. I realized that I didn’t have MY going home outfit in there! :D I also still need to figure out what to bring CJ home in… I may wait til after the shower so that I can wash everything all at once…
I so envy those of you who love your jobs… I am so sick of the politics on mine that I could scream. I think it has a lot to do with prego hormones but I just want to quit most days….

Ok...I just googled it to see if I could get better directons...what it says is to wrap the dental floss tightly around your finger right up to the ring and then slip the end under the ring. Then, take the end that you slipped under and start unwinding the floss from your finger. It will force the ring to slide off your finger. Probably waxed dental floss would work the best. Be prepared for it to be uncomfortable...

hmbay How nice of your coworkers to throw you a second shower! I think I’m in the same boat as you – I don’t hate my actual job, just hate getting up in the morning.
amtaylor Glad the new school year is going good for you and the students too. Don’t get too nervous about your dh being gone. I’m sure everything will be fine.
Surftraitor I hope for the best for your co worker and her baby. Your boss and your coworker may be mommies before you, but at least you and your babe are doing well.

OMG - I forgot to mention I FELL OFF THE BED LAST NIGHT
That made me LOL!! I’ve come close to doing the same thing a couple of times. The farther along I get the more the bed shrinks because of all the extra required pillows.
lorialys Looks like you had a lot of fun at your showers. Also, your room looks great-I love that crib.
Michelle and Curtis Congrats on a good dr.’s appt. Looks like you only have about a month and half left until you meet your baby!
godsgift To get your ring off, try running your finger under cold water for a few minutes, to keep the swelling to a minimum, then spray some windex on it. The windex is slippery and keeps the friction down. And don’t worry about the windex hurting your ring, I got this tip from my jewler.
Sorry about all the work politics. Soon you will be on your maternity leave though, and not have to think about it at all!
jh Sorry about the preterm labor, but glad you’re ok.
Not much new here. We have our third birth class tonight, and although I really enjoy going, I HATE that we have to basically sit on the floor. I don’t understand why we can’t have normal chairs and then move them out of the way at the end of class to practice our labor positions and relaxation. There must be something funny to them with 15 very pregnant women trying to get up off the floor.

Here's a photo of our assembled crib. MIL is finishing up the bedding, so all it has is a store-bought sheet right now. I'll post one with all the bedding when we get it next weekend.

ring removal How about trying an ice bath for your finger (glass of water with lots of ice) to constrict the blood flow. The use windex on your finger to help slide it off.

falling off the bed--sorry I had to laugh too. We have a king sized bed but right now I have about 4 or 5 pillows on my side. I keep losing one or two during the night as they fall off the bed (but so far not me). DH was complaining last night that there is no room left between me and the pillows--I can't imagine if we had smaller than a King right now. :)
cribs--my goal for the night I think is to get the crib apart that is still in Colin's room and get it moved into the nursury now that Jon has all his stuff out but a few boxes. Of course that leaves a bed and a bookshelf in Colin's room since I put his dresser in his closet because it's a bit "tippy". Poor kid. I have to get him some more furniture so his room doesn't look so bare.
Hi girls! Quick question for those who have had BH contractions. Is it just a quick thing or does it last a while? I haven't had any at all (or at least as far as I can tell), but last night my stomach hurt from 9pm until midnight. I don't think it was stomach upset but rather the baby. I couldn't really walk or get up off the couch. Since it only hurt at the top of my belly I didn't really worry about it, per our childbirth class the real labor is in the pelvis area. I slept on the couch until I felt well enough to walk to bed, and I feel totally fine this morning again. It was just weird, and I don't know how else to describe it. I also thought that maybe this kid is starting to drop??? Is it too early for that (I'm almost 34 weeks). Ideas? I'm not worried enough to call the doctor just curious.

I had my Dr's appointment this morning, everything looks great. Baby's head down still, heartbeat is strong (141) and even though I've been having lot's of BH's and contractions, my cervix is not dilated! :D Which is a good thing, since we want baby boy to stay in and cook a little bit longer. Dr said she would for sure see me next week (the start of my weekly appointments) She is also happy to say that my cervix is "in the front" and easy to reach - which means no painful exams for me! I also got the GBS test - not painful at all! I was worried about the rectum swab, but it's just on the outside, so it was done before I even knew she started! I will find out my results next week.
Oh yeah, I forgot, I gained 2 1/2 pounds for a total of 13 pounds gained this PG.
So for work, we went to meet the people at the office we're merging with. Can I just say, that I'm even more reluctant to make this change? They were nice, don't get me wrong, but when asking how they do day to day operations, it's way different from us. They are more paper people, we are email and computer profile people, they really have management watch over their every move, while our management lets us manage ourselves. This is not going to be an easy transition. Plus, the desk is soooooo tiny, how in the world am I going to even be able to fit my reference material in my work space?!?! The office looks like an old fashioned 70's office with everyone stacked right on top of each other. I'll be able to almost reach out and touch my neighbor! (think of the set up as slightly bigger school desks and lined up together, and you get the picture!) I'm not excited about having clients come into that office, it seems way to crushed and distracting, instead of relaxing and enjoyable. Right now, if I have clients come in, they can sit at my desk, inside my cube-ie and enjoy making their travel reservations with out feeling like they've gone to a government building for food stamps! Ugg - it just seems so unprofessional!
And there is a wall between our office and theirs for sure, it's subtle, but it's there. Why oh WHY did this have to happen at this time in my life? Dealing with a major change in my work day, and dealing with office politics, is not what I imagined my last few weeks of PG to be! This is going to be stressful, no matter how much I try not to let it be…
Speaking of stress, I better get back to work, so that I can get some things done and start packing up my desk!!! (half of which needs to go home, since I don't have room for it in the new "office")
Sorry for the vent!

I'm getting really annoyed with people who keep asking how I'm feeling, if I'm getting enough sleep, how pregnancy is going...I know they mean well and I feel bad for getting annoyed, but I'm tired of all conversation focusing around pregnancy.
I did feel a bit better yesterday when a secretary I know came up to me and said, "Oh! Your belly is getting so big. Can I rub it?" I smiled and said, "I'd rather you didn't but thanks for asking first." She said, "But it is so cute." I replied, "Yeah, but we're at work and I'd rather not have people at work touching my stomach." :p

Belly rubbing:
Isn't it amazing how everyone has a different approach to things in life? LML is very proper and professional in her work environment, and enjoys her personal space :)
Me on the other hand, I go running (or a fast waddle) to my co-workers, and make them feel the boy's hicups! LOL! I'm all about budda belly rubs - "come one, come all, enjoy a free belly rub for good luck!" or "Come check out the amazingly lop-sided belly!" (had baby moved all to one side, and that looked waaay too funny not to share! LOL!) I could start my own PG freak show in the office!!! :p
But I totally agree with how annoyed I get having people ask me how I'm feeling that day. Mainly because it depends on the time of the day - first thing in the morning, I grunt more then talk. Around 10am, I get an energy boast and everything is perfect with PG and the world - catch me just before lunch, and don't mess with me, major hunger induced attitude going on! - try to ask me how I'm feeling around 3pm, I might wake up long enough to tell you I'm dead tired.

Michelle and Curtis Cute stroller!
godsgift77 No problem!
Chad and Liz Thanks! Sorry you have to sit on the floor at class, that stinks. Hopefully you can put some pillows under you and lean against your DH and that will make it a bit more comfortable.
lml41981 Beautiful crib! I hope you think it was worth the wait, but I'm sure you do. :D I hear ya on being annoyed by people. If one more stranger gives me a "you look like you're ready to pop" comment, I think I'll scream. Why is it that people you don't know think they can talk to you when you are 8-9 months pregnant! Nobody ever talked to me so randomly like this before!
EJM That doesn't sound like BH to me. At least, not what I've experienced BH to be. My belly does get really sore sometimes up near the top, I posted yesterday about this. My skin is getting so stretched out it is really painful sometimes when Luke is pushing hard from the inside.
adoredh Sounds like you had a great appointment! Sorry about the work situation, it sounds crummy. I hope it turns out to be better than you're anticipating.
Last night we went out to dinner at Applebees. I think I may have had my very first "real" contraction. Not sure, but it was definitely different from the BH I've been getting. Way low down in my abdomen, and it did hurt a bit. It wasn't very long, and I only had one, but it was exciting nonetheless! I'm so ready for this baby to be cooked so he can come out already!

Hey Ladies!
I got some input from my SIL on what to pack in my hospital bag, & I thought I would share it. Not only did she give birth to her first child last December, but she's also an OB/GYN! So she definitely lives this stuff. I don't think there are any huge surprises, but here is what she recommends:
Use the hospital gown, pillow, & robe during labor/delivery because things get messy!
Bring a pair of comfy socks from home for labor that you don't mind throwing away (again, the whole mess factor.)
Snacks for DH
Hard candies for you to suck on during labor (Jolly Ranchers, etc.)
Book/magazine for early labor to keep your mind occupied.
MOST IMPORTANT ITEM: Lip Balm!
Clothing that fit you when you were 20 weeks to wear in recovery (stretch pants, t-shirts, sweatsuits, etc).
Old underwear & heavy flow pads in case you don't need the hospital's mesh panties & mammoth pads for your whole stay.
Boppy
Nursing bras
Pillow for postpartum if you're particular about yours
Belly Touching: Has only happened to me twice - once was a good friend's mom, so I was cool with that, and the second time was a stranger in the bathroom at a friend's wedding (not so cool). I don't need to worry about it at work - I work with 99% men. In fact, some of them are just now coming up to me to tell me "I had no idea you were having a baby!" :rolleyes:
lml: Gorgeous crib!
shushyk: Do we need to get some of those bed rails that toddlers or senior citizens use? ;) Actually, now that I'm also trying to manage my Snoogle in the bed, rolling over has become slightly dangerous for me, too!

Hi ladies,
I've been reading along but have had the time (or energy) lately to reply. I'm going to attempt right now.
Jill-Sorry about the scare. I'm glad things are better now and I'll be sending stay put vibes for your baby.
Shushyk-OMG! That is hysterical about falling out of bed. I can imagine what your DH was thinking!
surftraitor-Yikes, that is so scary about your co-worker. I think that under monitoring they can keep the baby in for longer than 24 hours in extreme cases like this. I think they give the mom a med that speeds up kidney and lung development of baby so it's like in 24 hours the baby develops 5-7 days worth. I sure hope she's ok and baby is fine.
lorialys-Great belly shots. You definitely grew in the past week. Super cute belly. I hear you on random people talking to you. I have never had so many people at work talk to me before. I don't even know their names or what department they work in but all of a sudden they want to stop and talk to me in the halls. I actually think it's kind of sweet. It's too bad people aren't this nice to each other on a regular basis though.
1 Mommy-So sorry about M/S! That's horrible. I hope it passes soon.

Our bag is pretty much packed. I just need to throw in her outfits to come home in and my last minute stuff like face wash, brush, shampoo and conditioner, etc.
I think we might try to install the car seats this weekend and then take it to the fire station to have it checked.
QOTD-At what point are you installing your car seats?
I will be 36 weeks on Monday so we figured it's a good idea to get it in in the next week or two. Is that too early? When are you guys doing it?

shushyk: Do we need to get some of those bed rails that toddlers or senior citizens use? Actually, now that I'm also trying to manage my Snoogle in the bed, rolling over has become slightly dangerous for me, too! OMG I will have to tell DH that.
I am glad everyone got a chuckle out of that - I still can't stop laughing about it (probably because I didn't get hurt) but seriously I ONLY get in bed with the light ON now :o
DianeCourt Thanks for the suggestions for what to pack (and the guard rail!)
1_mommy (((((hugs)))) that sucks I am so sorry about the m/s.
lorialys I am constantly wondering if I am getting contractions. I get a lot of "cramps" but ones that make me stop. Someone said its round lig pain. but I don't think so??? How many weeks are you?
adoredh you are SO cute with you belly rub. That would be me (if I was still working) depending on WHO it was though. Sorry about the work merge thing, that is never easy. and then you will be going on leave right?
lml41981 I went to a work function the other day (I don't work there any more but my DH does, thats how we met) and one of the girls came right up and rubbed my belly. I didn't mind that until she said OH ITS SO SOFT :eek: :confused: :o I was really upset, I am a BIGGER woman and had a lot of belly poodge before I got pg and now the baby is super high so when you touch my lower belly that is mostly ME. I was so embarresed.
That crib looks awesome, is that a little alcove in the room? can you post pics of the rest of the room?
EJM BH goes away if you drink water or move positions. Its more like a tightening of your lower belly. You might have had gas. I know this sounds strange, but sometimes when I get gas pains now it hurts to the point of I can't move. I talked to the dr. because they are SO BAD. I would still check with the dr. just in case.
hmbay yeah we have a king too. I sleep with TWO body pillows, two kind pillows and ONE regular one and still can't get comfy. some nights they all go flyin and others I manage to get comfy for a few hours. I am glad we have the king too even though it takes up all the room!
godsgift77 any update on the ring? did you try good old fashion butter or ky jelly?
LexyLou I know it was TOO FUNNY
QOTD Not sure about the car seat. we are trying to buy a new car, so I was waiting to see if that was going to happen or not. We might install it at week 38 if we dont get the new car.
lorialys

1_mommy Sorry to hear about the nausea returning.
DianeCourt Thanks for the advice on what to pack! I need to start thinking about that this weekend.
LexyLou Thanks!! Yeah, most of the time I don't mind. Except for the random people that approach me in the parking lot. That bothers me because I don't know them or even what department they work in!
shushyk Yeah, I get cramps too but I wouldn't call those contractions. Today I've had a lot of lower back pain and that AF crampy feeling, but since I haven't had any more of what I would call contractions, and no bloody show or anything, I'm not worried. I'm 34 weeks, just one day behind you actually. But I am thinking this baby is going to come early.
Carseats I think we're going to install ours this weekend. I'm only 34 weeks though.
hmbay
08-31-2005, 10:01 AM
qotd--hmm well I doubt we're installing it until we head to the hospital. Most likely we'll take my car which has LATCH (none of our other cars are new enough) and I'll just grab the bucket and base on the way out the door so it's in the car for the ride home. However I would recommend getting it checked for anyone who isn't a second time parent--I'm just not too concerned about having it checked since we've used it previously (although we never had it officially checked then either). I am a bit concerned about putting both seats in DH's car though since he doesn't have LATCH and has shoulder belts on the sides of his backseat. With only one carseat right now he puts it in the middle with the lap only belt but once he has to haul around two we'll have to make sure we have everything installed properly as I know the shoulder belt installs are trickier. We have two bases for the infant seat so once that is installed properly in DH's car we should be good but we move the convertable for Colin between the two cars so we really need to make sure we know how to properly install it into DH's car as it will get moved often and we can't "just leave it" as is once it's been ok'd as installed properly.
ejm--my vote is also for gas pains. I have IBS and get some seriously aweful stomach aches sometimes and they feel pretty much like you described.

Today is the 34 weeks mark
Here are the most current belly shots:

Yesterday's Dr. appt. also went very well:
* BP: 112/52
*Weight: 127 (total gain of 22 lbs.)
*Fetal HR: 130
*Measuring about 1 week ahead still
I now will be going in every week :eek: . In two weeks I will have the last u/s to get an estimated weight on baby. My doc, as well as myself want to make sure baby isn't going to be too huge.
The nursery is painted and awaiting the crown moulding. It's so frustrating to be so close, yet................
The glider still isn't here, but should be arriving shortly.
Had my first baby shower last weekend:
http://jenniferandtimothy.com/images/showerpregbest.jpg
The theme was "pickles and ice cream".
My hostesses had a complete sundae bar with various flavors of ice cream and every topping imaginable (including brownies).
Plus she had every pickle variety you could want, buffet style.
It was too fun:

They also made a scrapbook full of nursery rhymes as an activity:

It was such an enjoyable time and Baby G scored some fab things!
QOTD: I think DH is going to install it and have it inspected next week while he is off of work. If we waited any longer I'm not sure when it would get inspected, as most of the places near us require appointments during typical working hours.
Thanks for your input on my question girls! I'll chalk it up to gas, and I'd much prefer to hear that from you girls then call the doctor and have her tell me :p . It definitely wasn't the stretching that I normally have been feeling. I haven't had anything at all today, so it clearly was a passing phase.
Route to the hospital: I realized this past weekend that the Chicago Marathon is scheduled for Oct 9th, just a few days before my due date. Many of the roads around us are closed all day for that, including the ones we would take to the hospital so I've had to map out another route. So just a friendly reminder to make sure no special events fall near your due date, and to have a back up plan just in case.
Had my appointment yesterday (32w 4d). BP, weight, and baby's HB all good. I think I had a BH when he was checking the baby's HB. It was at 140 and then dropped down to 118. He felt around and said things were okay.
I made the rest of my doctor appointments yesterday. I have my GBS test next appointment (at 35w). Appointments... Sept. 16, 23,30 Oct. 7,14,21.
We had our last lamaze class last night. We are now graduates. The instructor asked me how I was feeling, and I told her I have felt different the past few days. She replied... I normally don't say this, but you looked like you dropped. :eek: I didn't think you started dropping until 36 weeks!?!?!?
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
carseat I need to purchase ours soon. I am hoping to have it installed and checked by 36 weeks.
Great Belly Shots

No time for a long post, but wanted to pop in regarding QOTD. You can go to seatcheck.org (http://www.seatcheck.org) for locations near you who are certified for car seat installation. Lexy--we were told that many fire stations no longer do it. In CA, they will not let you leave the hospital with the baby unless the car seat is correctly installed.
Speaking of cars, just got quote to repair my car brakes and oil leak. Spending $1600 on my audi was the last thing I wanted right now. I HATE cars.

Thanks surf...actually it's interesting because seatcheck.org didn't have this fire station listed but the list at Babies R Us did so we called and they told us they still do it...phew!

Wonderful belly shots everyone and shower pictures! I was just thinking today, that tomorrow (Sept 1) I can officially tell people that I'm due next month! :eek:
We had our first childbirth class on Monday. We have about 15 couples in class. We watched a video and they didn't blur out anything. DH was fascinated that the baby just knows how to get into position in the pelvis and how to turn his head and body to get out. The narrator on the video was saying as the cervix dilates, many women feel pain and burning....uh, you think so, Sherlock!! We also talked about BH and how it is really important to drink lots of water to help avoid some of them. That was enough to kick my rear into gear and start guzzling up the last few days!
Has anyone else had a sharp pain in their abdomen? I had this sharp pain in my abdomen for about an hour today and it eventually went away. I figured it might just be ligaments stretching but did it get me thinking about how I am not ready to have this baby. I don't have my bag packed...our car seat won't get here for another two weeks. I'm just not ready!!
I figure once the car seat does get here, I'm going to install it and the base in DH truck right away and go get it inspected to make sure we have it in there right.

Carseat Installation: I would check the fit of your car seat in your vehicles ASAP. Car seats & vehicles are definitely not all the same, so it would be a shame to have a seat that doesn't fit in your vehicle, and to discover that at the last minute or at a really inconvenient time. At a minimum, if you don't feel like messing with installing it now, hang on to the box the seat came in, all paperwork, and a receipt so you can return yours if needed & pick out a different brand.
Just to let you know that I'm a total hypocrite - I haven't checked to see if the Primo Viaggio we have fits in our cars yet. However, I have good intentions of doing so soon. ;)

QOTD Carseats - I plan on doing this around the same time I pack my bags. My childbirth instructor recommended doing that by 35 weeks, though I doubt I will get it done by then. I think I'm about the only one in this thread who thinks they're going to go late. So far I'm measuring about a week behind, and my mom was also 11 days late with me. Now, just because I said this and I feel like I still have plenty of time to get things done, she'll come early :rolleyes:

QOTD - Funny you guys are talking about this today b/c it is on my list of things to do this week! We're not so concerned about how to actually do the installation since we've done it several times w/ all the nieces & nephews we have but what I am concerned about is the fit of the seat we're hoping to use. It's a brand new Graco that a friend gave us (she got 2 at her baby shower and only ended up using one) but the backseat in my Explorer is a bit slanted so I'm wondering whether we'll need one of those adapters so that the carseat is at the right degree. I seem to recall that the infant seat should be at a 45 degree angle so that the baby is laying properly and w/ the slant of the backseat, it wouldn't be. So, I just want to make sure that the experts take a look to make sure that the seat is ok or whether we need the adapter or a different seat, etc.

domesticdreamer Cute belly! What a cute theme for a shower! And how original, to make a book of nursery rhymes.
cj Most first time moms drop sometime between 2 and 6 weeks of their delivery. Of course, this is just an average. You could already be dropping.
jenjen0713 Hmm, I've been drinking so much water today because I'm really thirsty but I have noticed a lot of BH. Interesting. I get sharp pains all over the place, sometimes from my rib area, sometimes when he moves and tries to stick his knee out of my belly, and other times from my cervix/crotch area.

rings Thanks for all of your advice but as i type this with a numb windexed and peanut buttered hand, my rings are firmly in place :( I guess I will have to pray that they don’t have to cut them off… I would be so sad…
shushyk I’m not the smallest woman either so when people say “oh its soft’ I say its because you’re touching FLUID not the baby. Duh. As far as cramps – I don’t have them yet but my BH’s have gotten a bit more intense lately…
dianecourt thanks for the info – esp about laboring in their stuff… I almost forgot to pack the lip balm!
carseat DH is telling me that I am OCD because I want it in this weekend… and I’m only 34 weeks. So I guess we’ll wait until I’m 37 weeks. Then I’ll put it in myself!
I am having my GBS this Friday and am setting my appt for the next u/s for sometime next week….

godsgift77: I had my ring cut off and it wasn't as bad as I imagined! It didn't really hurt and was actually kind of neat to watch. It only took a few days to get it back and my ring looked great... actually better than before it was cut off. I ended up having my band sized up so I could still wear it, but it was a bit snug to begin with.

godsgift Sorry to hear nothing is working with your rings. Don't worry. If you do have to have them cut off, I am sure they will fix them so you can't even tell!
carseat I have been wanting to do this but DH keeps telling me that we have plenty of time. Hopefully I will convince him to do it within the next week or two.
I have been busy washing blankets and sheets tonight. I am going to start washing all of baby girl's clothes tomorrow night. She has so many clothes already!

scubasam--my graco snugride is only 2 years old and the seat itself has a little "level bubble" on it you can check once you have it installed. If that's all you're concerned about I would guess yours would have the same and you wouldn't need an expert to tell you it's level or not--just use the gauge and follow the directions to prop it up to level if necessary (I think they say to use a rolled towel?).
I've been having a lot of BH contractions today. I assume they're BH because I'm not getting thigh/back pain and they aren't getting worse--just kind of interesting they've come on all of a sudden really but I guess I have been doing a lot more lately and probably not drinking enough water. I'm also finding it just exhausting to move--getting in and out of my car is the worst thing ever. I can't believe how just a couple days ago I felt so much better than this. :(

Hi ladies! Today I had another appointment and this one didn't go as well as I would have hoped. :(
Everything was fine till the doctor measured me. I am 32 weeks and 2 days as of right now and I measured out to be 37. I'm way too big too fast which is causing some concern. Tomorrow morning I need to call up to radiology and get in for an ultrasound ASAP. Yuck! This is familiar territory though. The same thing happened in my last pregnancy and it turned out I just had a very big baby. Skylar weighed in at 8lbs. 13oz., 20" long. This baby is expected to be much larger by the sounds of it.
I also bought a breast pump today off of a friend at work. It's really nice and she hardly ever used it too!
Carseat...
Our carseat is a Graco Snugride also. It's about 2 years old as well. I got it with our stroller as this whole travel system combo before Skylar was born. My snugride has the bubble thingy as well. We aren't installing our carseat right now. There really isn't much point to, it just takes up too much space in the back seat. Curtis will probably put the seat in after the baby is born. It will be installed in the middle and Skylar will sit behind the driver's side.

hey guys!
missed too much today to do SO's, but everything here is good! got in my nap for the day after work, so i feel good! :) HA!
carseats: our hospital has a program called "CLICS" that will install and inspect the carseat by appointment. i am really glad they do this, because the hospital is literally right across from where we work! very convienent!
Jen--- you are SO cute prego!!! love the shower idea! what a cute theme!
O-- i hope you don't have to have your rings cut off either! i'm sure they can try SOMETHING that will get them off if you can't. i'll cross my fingers!
i just realized that tomorrow is september 1st and lots of us could have babies THIS MONTH. wow, is that crazy, or what?!~?!
hmbay- i feel the same way about getting in and out of the car. it is getting harder and harder. driving is also no longer fun, especially here in los angeles because it's been extra hot.
my only consolation is ----- tomorrow is my last day of work and i'm off to maternity!!!!YIPPPEEE!!!
Good Morning.
I have been thinking a lot about the devistation that has happened down south. It saddens me so much. I am also worried about the rapid increase in gas prices and my long comute to work. Gas jumped yesterday 51 cents :EEK: in our area.
My sister is coming over this weekend and we are going through the baby shower stuff and sort out the doubles and make a list of necessities that I still need before the baby comes. I received a flyer with coupons from both BRU and TRU this week. Great timing by their part ;)
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
scubasam A coworker of mine had problems with the angle of the car seat and the police officer that inspected their seat used a "noodle" (those long styrofoam sticks kids play with in the pool) to prop it up. Hopefully where you get it inspected they have a solution for ya!
hmbay just kind of interesting they've come on all of a sudden really but I guess I have been doing a lot more lately and probably not drinking enough water. I'm also finding it just exhausting to move Me too. Just in the past few days my BH's have really increased and I have noticed I've been doing way more then I should. And the exhausting part... I was just thinking about that when I stepped off the elevator this morning. How could I feel so good last week and now just to walk a few steps takes everything out of me. :rolleyes:

I was cleared yesterday to return to work today. Good thing, too, because three days of best rest was enough for DH. Monday, he was super sweet and helpful. Tuesday, not as sweet and somewhat helpful, but kind of annoyed that I asked him to do things for me. Wednesday, downright agitated and I know he was ready to yell, "get off your ass and do it yourself - oh, right..." He'd get that look like, "you're asking me to do WHAT for you?" My husband is known for many things, but a patient bedside manner is not one of them.
My cervix is long and closed, which is good. I will be on Terbutaline for the next 3.5 weeks, until I hit 36 weeks, then whatever happens happens.
More later.

My DH is similar. After Colin was born he asked what I wanted as a gift and I told him I wanted him to take care of me since I'd had a c/s and I didn't want to feel like I HAD to get up and cook, clean etc. He did his best but it about killed him. One time when I had the flu and asked him to make me some soup he actually told me I was closer to the kitchen than he was. :rolleyes: Love him to death but he's a lousy nurse.
c j--our gas went up 40 cents in two days and I hear it went up again this morning but I"m almost afraid to look online to see how much. It's just insane. My "economical" car that gets 32-34 miles to the gallon doesn't even seem economical right now. I can only imagine what anyone driving an SUV or 20 some miles to the gallon car is feeling right now.

Rings I haven't been wearing mine for a couple of months now. They are on a chain around my neck, so that I can still have them on me, but I sure do miss them on my fingers! I even miss the indent you get from wearing your rings so long! :(
hmbay I totally agree with you on driving! Getting in and out of the car sucks! Even getting off the couch is hard! I'm really starting to think about asking DH to help me get off the couch! My tummy wasn't very stong prior to having baby (what are situps again?) now that everythings moved all over the place, it really takes a lot to sit up from laying down!
Michelle I'm so sorry that the apointment didn't go so well. It does sound though, that this is something you're used to, messuring ahead that far. You're just able to have big healthy babies! :) Plus you'll get to see the baby again! Good luck, and I'm sure it's just a big healthy baby :D
Amanda EEK! I can't believe that this month we could have babies in our group! How exciting, scarey, and um, scarey some more! LOL! I'm perfectly happy staying PG for a while longer yet, no matter how tired I am or how much my back hurts, I really can't imagine having a baby actually, in reality, in my home!!! Yep, The Boy, can stay nice and warm inside me, where he's safe, with me 24/7 and I don't have to turn into worry wart mom - because I know I will once he's born!
Watch out if you come over to my house to visit the baby, I'm armed with anti-bacterial soap, and I'm not afraid to make you use it! :p
Car seats Just heard on the radio, that they are having a baby fest at a local mall next week Friday, and 10am to 2pm, they will inspect car seats for you. Not sure if the new boss will let me have it off, but I'm going to manage it, some how...
I can only imagine what anyone driving an SUV or 20 some miles to the gallon car is feeling right now. Quietly raising hand :p I had a nice economical car before, but my Escape does get 22-23 mpg right now.
I'm really starting to think about asking DH to help me get off the couch! adoredh My DH has been doing this for weeks. He's to the point that if he sees me getting up he just automatically holds out his hand :D What a sweetie.
Holy Crap! I just looked at my ticker and 50 days are left. I know some of you have less, but I just can't believe that the days to baby arrives are becoming few.
Busy morning at work, but wanted to let the Dutalier ladies know I just received an e-mail that my glider/ottoman have shipped. It has been 7.5 weeks for my express 4-6 week order. :D I'm so excited!!!

Feeling like I should be taking advantage of the "work from home" option my boss gave me and leave my Explorer parked in the garage unless absolutely necessary! ;) Yah, I actually need to go fill up this morning and I'm a bit scared about it. I can't believe some states are up to $5-$6 a gallon! The worst here so far is $3.28.

Hi everyone,
No time for SO's this morning as I just came from Dr. appt and need to get crackin' with work. Appt went well. BP and baby's HB are spot-on. I only gained 1/2 lb :D. Not sure how that happened as I feel like I've been eating my face off lately. Baby is head down, with his back on my left side and feet/hands on right (explains my constant sore right ribs). Dr. also took a close look at cankles. She didn't say anything, but put pressure on them--whatever that did??. Oh yeah, and apparently I was having a contraction while I was there. Didn't feel it. My next appt is 9/8
Gas prices are insane. CA has always been higher than rest of US. We started the week at $2.74 and this morning it was $3.10. So glad I gassed up on Sat. Now I'm not feeling as bad that my car is in the shop and DH and I have been commuting together. We may try to do that a bit more often now.
Life has been crazy this week. FIL is in the hospital with a blood clot in his leg. He and MIL were supposed to leave for Europe this week, so I guess that trip is probably postponed. They're putting him on blood thinners to see if they can get the clot reduced. Yikes.

gas prices--I filled up (well half a tank being optimistic it would go down after the "holiday" weekend even though I know I'm kidding myself) last night for 2.99. For contrast my gas station sells milk for $2.50 a gallon if you buy two gallons. that is so wrong. Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if it's $3.15-3.30 by the time I leave work today--that's what's been predicted here in Minneapolis anyhow.

Gas, right now it's about $1.20/litre. Since there are 3.9 litres in a gallon we are paying $4.68/gallon.
I'm really surprised at how much I enjoy being pregnant. Even with the carpal tunnel and the GD, I love it! Lately I've been able to see Lumpy moving around. It's like watching popcorn pop in my belly. Too cool!

CJ any good sales at BRU/TRU? I'm anxious to see the flyer. I know one usually comes out around this time of year. TIA!
I got the TRU flyer. Pack n Plays are on sale $10 off one that is $75 or more, IIRC. We will be taking advantage of that...plus, if you spend $75, you get a $10 gift card with the coupon from the back of the flyer. I guess we'll also be stocking up on our baby bath junk.
We sent MIL the URL for the stroller and carseat we want. We weren't sure if she'd want to pay $170 for the carseat, so we told her we'd pay for part of it. She said, "Nope. I want your baby to be in the safest seat possible, so I'm willing to pay top dollar." Well...I'm not sure you can get much safer than the seat we chose...it's very highly rated. We decided to go ahead with the Britax Preview instead of the Forerunner stroller. I won't have a snack tray, but I think I will be fine without it since I'm starting without it. I am eager for it to arrive!
Gas prices - Yeah...one of our cars runs regular...it was at $3.09 this morning. The other car runs premium...it was at $3.20. SiValleySteph suggested in another thread going to the auto parts store and getting octane booster if your cars run a higher grade octane fuel. Apparently the difference in price between the octane booster and the fuel makes it worthwhile. I don't know how much octane booster is, but I guess I'll do the math when I find out.

I can't do SO right now, but I'll be back later to catch up.
This morning I had our 4-D u/s and the little stinker had his hands in front of his face the whole time (I even poked at him to try and get him to move!). All bodily parts and functions are great.
The Little Dude is, however, actually little. He's in the 6th percentile for size and they had me do additional testing (HR, Contraction & kick count monitoring and maybe something else....not sure). I will be going every week now for testing to be sure the Dude is on track. I must admit that we are both a little taken back, but the docs seem to think everything will be fine, he just needs extra care.
shushyk I hope you are ok, the cut sounds fairly deep!

I just got back from a dr. appt today. I had to see a different dr in my practice because my regular dr. got called out for a delivery. He did the GBS test and also checked my cervix. He was pretty rough when he did the internal though. He said my cervix wasn't dilated at all but it was thinning a little bit. I got home and went to the bathroom and saw blood soaked through to my pants. I was bleeding quite a bit. It seems to have slowed down now. I have been trying to get in contact with my dr. but no one is answering for some reason. I have a feeling it is just because he was so rough when he was doing the internal, but it is still scary to see all of that blood!
I am just going to hang out at home until I get ahold of my dr. I called work and told them not to expect me back for a while.

Tiger I don't like hearing the word rough AT ALL! So sorry you had to go through that. Too bad you can't contact his doc for his next prostate exam and see how he likes "rough".
LexyLou
09-01-2005, 01:49 PM
Tiger-that is not right. You should not be bleeding like that from an internal...he had no right to be that "Rough". I would definintely call and tell them.
Lisa-Sorry that dude was covering his face and measuring small. I'm sure he's fine he's just a little guy. :)
shushyk-I don't know if you need a tetnus. When did you have your last one? I would call your regular doc and ask.
GAS-Ummm my car gets 16-18 MPG (4Runner)...I can still get gas at the Arco around the corner from my house for under $3 but I'm not sure how much longer that will last. It's insane.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dutailier Rant-Okay, not so much a rant because I refuse to let myself get so worked up over a chair considering we are about to have a beautiful baby and the chair thing will work itself out but I'm very frustrated.
We ordered the chair and ottoman on June 3rd...plenty of time, right? It's an almost $800 chair and ottoman set. The girl at the store said 8 weeks maybe 10 but that's the most. It's now 12 weeks. I called the store and the guy tells me that there should have been 38 chairs on the truck this week but there were only 37....guess who's chair was 38? Ours, of course. It's not even done being made because of the fabric we selected???It's white chenile people...not that rare.
Anyway, so now they don't think the chair will come in until the END of September...ummm my baby could be here and I want to finish the nursery darnit!
So she's trying to see if she can get it here by the 20th...not holding my breathe. In the meantime USA BAby is going to send us a "loaner" chair...which I'm sure will be totally ugly and not even match our room but at least it will be a place saver so I can see how far down we need to move the dresser and how big of a table I can get, etc...
I'm also hoping they will also offer us a credit of some sort. Like I said the chair cost over $700 and we still owe $350 on it. I would like them to split the balance with us and the USA BABY guy made it sound like they would be willing to do something like that.
So, life goes on but really annoying nonetheless...this chair BETTER be worth this wait.
Tiger I don't like hearing the word rough AT ALL! So sorry you had to go through that. Too bad you can't contact his doc for his next prostate exam and see how he likes "rough".
Giggle...I would be furious if I were you, Tiger.
ETA - I just called the pediatrician to set up a pre-natal appointment. They had one, uno , 1 appointment available for the month of September (one pre-natal appt, if I had a sick kid, they could have gotten me in.) And our appointment is for a week from today. So I would advise all other procrastinators to learn from my experience and make your appointments now. Of course, since Hank tried to come on Sunday, an appointment next week is probably a good thing right about now.
Well, I am back at work now. The bleeding eventually stopped. I was able to get ahold of the nurse and she confirmed that the bleeding was probably just from the exam. She said as long as I wasn't cramping and it stopped, that I shouldn't be worried. I really hope I don't have to see this doctor anymore. I start going every week now. He was just so rough! I had to grab the side of the table because it was hurting so bad. He made a comment that it was going to be "uncomfortable" because he really had to push hard because he said the baby's head was blocking the cervix. I am just glad the bleeding stopped!
Anyway, my next appointment is Sept. 8th. Hopefully my regular doctor won't get called out!
Lex So sorry to hear about your chair dilemma! I can't believe it is taking that long. I would definitely push for them giving you some kind of credit. Hopefully the loaner chair won't be too ugly!
lml Yea for MIL buying the car seat and stroller you want!
lvella Too bad your boy wanted to keep his face covered! He's honery already!
shushyk I hope your finger is doing alright!
Can someone explain to me what it means when the dr. tells me that my cervix is thinning? Does that mean things are starting to progress down there?
Can someone explain to me what it means when the dr. tells me that my cervix is thinning? Does that mean things are starting to progress down there?
Tiger, I'm glad to hear you are ok -- but I would be very upset. If the internal was going to be that bad, I would want to make sure it was totally necessary.
Progress in a relative way, your cervix must totally thin (also called efface) before you can dilate towards 4cm which is considered active labor. It doesn't necessarily mean you will deliver in x number of days, but it is progress!! :)
Tiger-- I know some spotting is normal after an internal. I did have two with my last pregnancy and they were uncomfortable but I never bled really from them. Just had some spotting from them. I hope you can see the other dr for the rest of your appts. I haven't had any internals yet because of my placenta issues but I anticipate having one at my appt next week.
Tiger-- I know some spotting is normal after an internal.
I wouldn't have been as worried about some spotting, but this was definitely a lot of bleeding. It was enough to soak through my underwear and my pants by the time I got home (about 5 minutes). It kept up for about 20 minutes when at that time it started to slow down and eventually stop. I was pretty freaked out when I first saw it. Like I said, I am just glad it stopped now. My regular doctor is much nicer and I don't really expect this to happen with him. I have heard several people complain about the dr. I saw today saying how unfriendly he is. It is very obvious when you go to make an appointment...my dr. is always almost booked and the other one always has a lot of empty slots!
EJM thanks for your explanation of thinning! That's kind of what I was thinking but I just wanted to make sure.
ugh DRAMA - thanks for the info ladies.
Update: Well the bleeding stopped, and the ob said I don't need it. Until I said ARE YOU SURE? she said well maybe you should get it (I think she was worried about if anything DID happen it would be on her right) so then I called my GP - who would give me the shot. They said she would have to call me back. THe nurse calls back and says I HAD IT 3 yrs ago. :eek: WHAT I don't remember, I said can you check again PLEASE against MY SS#. so she checks and she was like OH yeah, your right no you didn't have it :mad: WHAT how can you tell someone that??
OK, so STILL waiting to find out WHeN GP can give me the shot. :mad: WTF is up with this place.
My finger is all better, and I think because of my first aid I did a great job in keeping the skin tight and I don't need a stitch on it. just waiting on the shot (Oh and the last time I had it was in 92) over 10yrs.
________
Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
Tiger OUCH, I am SO SORRY. geez. Once I had a rough pap and bleed A LOT from a woman dr WTF I wanted to kick her in the face!
CErvix - right now looks like (sort of) a water bottle top (since its sitting right next to me) so it is round and has depth. When it thins out it is losing its depth. You can be walking around 100% effaced and not dialated at all. So you can't really make any judgment calls by knowing that. but still pretty cool to know the process has started!
A note about effacement that my birth instructor told us: the more effaced you are when you begin labor, the quicker your labor will likely be.
Tiger - sorry the doctor was rough...glad the bleeding stopped
Shushy - glad your bleeding stopped, too! Sucks that you have to get a tetanus shot, though.
This one you can see his foot in front of his face:
lvella--Little Dude is so cute! Don't stress about the size thing. He could undergo a big growth spurt. That's what I had with Flipper this week, and boy can I feel it..
coworker update--so earlier this week I reported that a coworker was in hospital with broken water (due 10/26). Now my boss (due 10/13) went in with contractions this morning. She's on 5 days of bed rest. I'm the lone prego on the floor. :(
shushyk--you've had one heck of a day. Tetanus shots hurt, too. Didn't your parents tell you not to run with scissors? ;) :D
Tiger--that OB sounds like a monster. I probably would have kicked him in the face. Hope its all behind you now.
Lexy--sorry about the glider. My ottoman is still on order. with Dutailier. Someone told me they close the factory during most of August. I'm cringing just thinking about when its going to arrive, but at least I have my glider.
godsgift77 Sorry about your ring!
hmbay I hear you on getting in and out of the car, torture!! Especially because I'm so short that the seat is way far forward and my belly almost gets stuck. LOL
Michelle and Curtis Sorry to hear that you're measuring big. Hope that it just means the baby is big and healthy.
mcl Lucky you!
Surftraitor Your baby and my baby are in the same position. Isn't it wonderful on the ribs? Sorry to hear about your FIL, I hope he's okay.
lvella43 Sorry your little guy wouldn't cooperate. Remember, ultrasounds can be somewhat far off on size prediction at this point. There are a lot of factors they don't take into account. Adorable pictures!
Tiger Sorry about the scare, I hope you found some reassurance from your OBs office. Scary! Thinning means it is going from being long to being short. Have you ever seen a diagram of the female reproductive system? The cervix has to not only dilate out to 10 cm from being closed, but has to shorten and "thin out" as well. Did I explain that okay?
shushyk Sorry you're having so many problems with the doctors!
Okay, as promised I am back from my ultrasound with pictures!!
He is looking good, head down already so that's definitely good news. The ultrasound technician estimates his size to be around 6 pounds already, she doesn't think we have much chance of him being a 7 pounder. But we knew that already!!
Here are the pictures:
The first one is a profile of his sweet little face. The bumps on the left are mouth and nose, and the big round thing is his head. :-) You can post this one on the first page if you like.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d720b3127cce93852fb294f900000036108AcsmjZw2cNc
Second picture is a little hard to make out, but it is looking straight on at his face. The white lines in the middle are his nose and the dark round spot above is his eye. He has chubby little cheeks already.
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d720b3127cce93852fbe94f500000036108AcsmjZw2cNc
Third picture confirms what we already knew, it's a BOY!
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d720b3127cce93852fb315c800000046108AcsmjZw2cNc
The last picture is looking down on his head, and the little straight things sticking out from it on the right hand side are tiny little hairs!
The doctor said my weird rib pain/discomfort is totally normal, but there's nothing I can do to make it go away except deliver or make the baby drop. LOL She has no clue about the odd wrist pain either, just said to take tylenol if it is really uncomfortable. She gave me pre-registration info for the hospital. And said that the cramping I've been having is normal, and is just my body gearing things up!
During the ultrasound Lucas's heartrate was 142, then when the nurse was taking it later with the doppler it was 144, then he elbowed the doppler out of the way and it went up to 148. Silly baby... ;)
My doc also said my weight gain is looking good, and not to worry about it going up some in these last few weeks. It's mostly water weight at this point. So that makes me feel a LOT better for being up 3 pounds this appointment. Not to the point where I'm gonna go eat a bunch of cookies, but if I gain some more weight before I deliver, it won't be a huge deal. :D
I have one more 2 week appointment scheduled for the 20th (but I'm gonna see if they can move that up to the week before that) and that's when they'll start internal exams, the strep B test, and run some bloodwork as well. After that it's weekly appointments!
Lorialys Awwww! He's adorable! Funny that our boys are around the same size and due on the same day!
gas its $2.83 here in so cal... i guess i should be grateful that we're not in Atlanta where I hear its up to $6 :eek:
The president is asking that people not get gas until absolutely necessary -- i'm going to buy a hybrid... :rolleyes:
rings i forgot that i have a toe ring on and its gonna have to come off too! :( I have had it on over ten years now and forgot that it was there til someone at work noticed it today and asked how i was going to get it off :eek: *sigh*
~~~~~~
In other news, i did get to see my son today! It was a total surprise since i was having a hard time getting my dr office and the u/s place to get on the same page. Anyway, they called today and asked if we could come in at 1:45. of COURSE! He's in position and he's measuring RIGHT ON!!! I am so glad since I was worried that he would be big. He's 5lbs 14oz right now and the reason i'm big is because there's tons of fluid :D He was putting on a show for us too. He kept putting his hands in his face then he'd put his foot and hand on the u/s - i'm so in love with him!

godsgift77: I had my ring cut off at a jewerly store chain... I think it was Freidman's maybe?
I went to my doctor's appointment and feel really frustrated. I feel like I was shorted or something. Things were well.. I'm up 24lbs according to their scale. My bp was 110/60 and I had to get my blood drawn again to check the iron levels. Hopefully the supplement is doing enough! The draw didn't really hurt, but now I'm bruised and it's super sore... it hurts to bend my arm or even touch near it. I didn't know it, but they planned to do the GBS test today. When the doctor came in she did the test and an internal. I'm completely closed, so that's great. She listened to her heartrate that ranged from the 120s-130s. That's low for her and I was a little concerned, but it didn't seem to bother her. The whole time her and Marc were going on and on about gas prices and travel. She didn't even measure me or feel for the baby's position like they normally do. Then she started going on about a story she heard about Park Rangers being on of the most deadliest jobs (Marc's Job!) and that was it... she just left. I had brought my birth plan to discuss, but that didn't happen. She didn't ask a thing or talk to me at all... just came in, violated me, and left :rolleyes:
It didn't help that when I went to make my next appointment they wouldn't give me a choice. They said there are too many patients that need to come every week or two and they are running out of space. I just have to take what I can get and maybe try and call to see if there's an opening. At least it's at 2pm on 9-15, so I don't have to take but half a day, but really.... this is the last thing I need. I don't have enough paid time already and now they are making me waste it on a stupid appointment :mad:

Lvella, what a cute little dude you have.
Tiger, I would have kicked that doctor hard. I'm sorry it was so bad.
lml, can you give me some ideas on snacks? I'm having trouble finding ones I can eat in between meals with the GD.
lml41981
09-02-2005, 06:26 AM
Sure...I'm allowed two 15 grams of carb snacks a day. What are you allowed?
If you go to the grocery store and look around, you'll find lots of South Beach Diet products. I bought some peanut butter snack bars that are exactly 15 grams...they are really good. I also bought some SBD version of wheat thins. They're actually 16 or 17 grams, but since I'm on insulin, one or two extra grams won't hurt me.
I will buy either Skippy's Carb Smart peanut butter or Peter Pan's No Sugar Added peanut butter and measure out roughly 15 grams of carbs (Peter Pan has 4 grams per 2 tablespoons...Skippy has 5 grams per two table spoons) and eat it with any of my free veggies (raw celery, carrots, even broccoli doesn't taste horrible with peanut butter). The peanut butter is fatty, so it will affect your sugar levels, but it also has protein that you need.
Then, of course, there's my sweet tooth. I am very fortunate to have a Tasti D-Lite near my home, so I will go there and get a 4 ounce ice cream, which has fewer than 15 grams of carbs. Baskin Robbins has some no-sugar added soft serve ice creams that are 15 grams for 1/2 cup. Also, Dreyer's/Edy's has some no sugar added options that are slightly more than 15 grams per 1/2 cup serving.
I like Planter's Nuts, so I kep a can at work and will eat some nuts for a snack...I also went to Sam's and bought individually packaged cashew nuts. I just throw those in my handbag and will snack on them if I need to. If you can portion it out and be disciplined, you can have half a bag of Peanut M&Ms...a bag is 30 grams of carbs. Also, a package of 3 Ferrero Rocher candies is 17 grams.
If you need sweets and choose to use your carbs on that, then when you get hungry again you'll just have to do veggies and cold-cuts.
Have you figured out how fruits affect you? I can have a portion of a Braeburn apple that is about the size of my closed fist and it won't affect me badly. The same sized portion of a banana or a Red Delicious apple will send my sugars through the roof. The same sized portion of an orange doesn't really affect me, either. My dietician said to be sure to stick with fist-sized portions of fruit because that is about 15 grams of carbs.
Nature's Own or whatever the brand of bread it is makes a whole wheat, sugar free bread that has 7 grams of carbs per slice. I'll toast some bread and spread peanut butter on it and that will hold me over for awhile.
If you're a juice person, V8 has Diet V8 Splash that has 3 grams of carbs per 1 cup serving. It's really good, too.
One tip...on any of the pre-packaged low-carb candies or something, it will say something like, "3 Net Carbs!" Ignore that. Look at the nutritional info and see how many total carbs there are. I was told we don't get to do "net carbs."
Oh...the South Beach Diet brand foods are made by Kraft...they have a line of frozen dinners that are low-carb. I didn't like the garlic-herb chicken, but you might. It comes with green beans, which actually weren't bad. The entire meal is 15 grams of carbs, so if you were particularly hungry at a snack time, you could eat one of those meals.

Thanks. I actually wasn't given any specific number of carbs to take at all. Just eat within the guidelines given and see how my blood is 2 hours later. So far I'm good with plums and Granny Smith apples. I even had some apple juice and was okay with it too. So far cereal seems to be my only no-no. I'm just getting bored with my chocolate pudding 2 hours after my lunch. I'll have to check out what I can find at the grocery store. Thanks for the tips.

I havent had time for S/O's lately now I'm way behind and again dont have time.. so I'll just have to forego them all together until I can catch up better..
Rings Luckily my rings still fit me almost the same as they did pre-preggo (they move around a little just not as much). The only swelling I get in them is if im really hot or eat too much sodium.. it goes away pretty quickly though. Thank goodness~ I havent had cankles yet either.. hopefully it stays that way! :)
carseat we are getting ours checked at our hospital on the 13th. Hopefully it fits well and everything!
Car It's really hard for me to get in and out of the car too. Last night I was laying on my back with my head propped up on DH's lap and I couldnt get up!! I had to have him push my back up so I could get off the couch! lol
Beautiful U/S pictures Lvella what a cute little fellar you have!!
Hope everyone's doing great!! my next appointment is Sept 6th for my 34 week check up. I totally panicked this week and for some reason thought my 3-D u/s tech told me I had a placental abruption.. So of course I called into the office..i called the 3-D lady afterwards (the nurse at my OB office sounded a bit annoyed) to make sure and she said i have an anterior placenta not an abruption! How embaressing.. I hope they dont remember.
Have a wonderful long weekend!!!! :)
Just a quick post.... haven't had internet at work for 2 days.
I called the doctor's office about 38 minutes ago and awaiting a call back. Haven't had much movement this morning since 6am (now 10:38am). The baby had hiccups then. Since that time I have had maybe 4-5 kicks. The receptionist told me to drink some orange juice while I wait for the nurse to call back. She said that usually gets the baby moving. All it did was give it hiccups. I'm a little worried, and just anxious because it's now been 39 minutes since I've called the office. I'll post to give an update later.

c j--I hope everything is ok. I do know as you get further along the baby starts to move a bit less as they get cramped but I don't think that's usually until the last few weeks. Maybe the babe is just chilling out for the long weekend! ;)

morning gals!! :)
not much going on here. last night we had mexican food for dinner and i felt like such a swollen blimp afterwards. i felt awful! i just went to bed at like 10 because i couldn't stand it anymore! then i was up like 3 times going to the bathroom, which is more than usual. ugh, and this morning i feel like poo. hopefully after my 4th glass of water (i've already had 3) i'll feel better. i am so ready to be "normal" again! cankles cankles cankles!
DH has the day off today too, and he was still in bed when i left, and it was SO hard to come to work today! he looked so comfy! i hate that i couldn't get back in bed!! can you tell that i'm not in the best mood today?!? :rolleyes: sorry to complain. i'm just getting so uncomfortable and ready to have this baby out!
oh a happier note, someone bought our stroller!! yea!! :) i thought my mom's family was buying the whole system, but it looks like someone beat them to part of it!! yea! we have our book shower on sunday, so maybe someone decided to do the stroller instead of a book!! :)
ok, gotta run! hope you all have a great day and weekend!
amanda
The nurse finally called back, it's amazing how minutes can seem hours :o Anyway, since the OJ gave the baby hiccups, the doctor wasn't too concern yet. But they want me to to call back if I don't have 10 kicks/2 hours. I have had 5 in 30 minutes. Not the norm, but at least it's something.
I am not much use at work, so I am going home for the afternoon. I am going to drink lots of water and lay on my left side. Let hope that the baby doesn't give us a "Labor" day surprise. (note to baby... just because it's labor day weekend, doesn't necessarily mean "labor" for you.)
cj: YEAH, glad to hear the baby is kicking up a storm! :D I was told to be concerned if you notice a decrease in movement over a few days, not a few hours if that makes you feel any better. I agree with hmbay, the baby could just be resting a little more this morning.

Hi everyone!!!
Well I ended up NOT getting the shot, and my finger is healing just fine :D .
cartersmommy YAY I love looking at my registry!
c j that happens to me all the time. The baby doesn't move a lot. Then ALL of the sudden I get an enourmous amount of movement and I am like WTH are you doin in there. Hope everything is fine, but that happens to me all the time.
Astaraoooh lucky you. My ring hasn't fit since 13W or so :eek: but I gained a lot of weight before I got pg so I am sure that had a lot to do iwth it.
amtaylor oooh that would bug me too. I would be like HELLLO can we talk about ME AND THE BABYYYYYYY!!
godsgift77 DIdn't get the shot :D hope the ring slides off soon.
Lorialys Lvella GReat pics!!!
I so want to get a 3D pic looking at yours - but I am holding off
I just bought my moms ticket to come out and visit. SHe turned me down for the 2weeks and said she could only do 1and half what ever we fought over it, but I know when she is here she will want to change her ticket if I didn't have the baby early enough. (I HOPE :o )
We got the pack n play from someone, and when I opened it, put it together THEN I realized IT WAS THE WRONG ONE. I wanted the one with the changing table attached and sitting a little higher up. THe one I got had the removable table. So I have to take the batteries OUT, unpack are refold BLAH I hate that part.
My shower is just another week away!! YAY. I am a little more involved then normal people so I am planning the games. What games did you guys do at yours that were fun? We are going to do the dirty diaper one (where you put different chocolates in the diaper and make them guess what it is), I was thinking the string one (but I dont really want people guessing how huge I am) and bingo. any good suggestions?
I am getting orchid plants as gift prizes for everyone. Ok off to the mall to meet a friend. Have a great day!
adoredh
09-02-2005, 09:24 AM
Shower I never really did tell you guys how great the shower was! I just ooh'd and ahh'd over the gifts! LOL!
My dad planned the games, so we had a card game, everyone that came in the door, got 5 cards, you could make your hand better if you wanted to buy 2 more cards for $1.00 - Todd and I got the money at the end, and the person with the best hand, won the prize. (prize was a Texas Hold'em poker set in a nice wood case)
The 2nd game was the diaper toss. This was all my Dad's idea, and it was waaay too funny! They filled up water ballons, then "diapered" them with Pampers newborn size (perfect fit) then you tossed the diaper back and forth like a ballon toss. If it fell, you were out of the game (because it didn't always break when they fell from the diapers) The really neat thing, was if the ballon did break, the diaper got all the water, so no one got really wet! (my Great Aunt ended up with a wet spot on her boob, which was way to funny! LOL!) - the prize was gift certs to Blockbuster
The last game, was the diaper raffle, if you brought a diaper or a package of baby wipes, you got entered into a drawing - we got a TON of diapers and baby wipes! - the prize was cool! A big basket with two really nice bottles of wine, cork screw, silver wine topper, wine glass rings, cheese, crackers, summer sausage, and of course, godiva chocolate! My cousin won and was so excited over that prize! :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, that was fun to take my mind off this being the last day in our office. I was fine until I turned the last corner to the office, it hit me all of a sudden, that this morning was my last time making the drive to this office. I started crying in the car, and sat outside for 15 mins. I couldn't make myself go in, because that meant it really was my last day, and if I stayed out in the car, it wouldn't be my last day yet. If that makes any sense... it's been a whirl wind this morning, and honestly, I can't wait until the end of the day, so that I can go home. But I have to show up to the local bar, as every employee, past and present, are meeting for drinks and memories tonight. Not excited...
What a depressing week, the hurricane, and not even being able to watch the news with out crying, and my company being bought out. Just a little too much for me, thank you very much :(
I am a little frustrated right now. I am still spotting this morning so I tried to call my doctor. I was told that both my doctor and the doctor I saw yesterday and both of their nurses do surgeries on Fridays so they won't be in at all today. So there is no one I can talk to about the spotting without going to the ER.
So, I am hoping I can gain some insight from you wonderful ladies. Do you think I should be worried? It has changed to brownish in color. It has been almost 24 hours since I first started bleeding yesterday.
After the drama of yesterday, I decided to call the doctor's office and ask nicely if it was possible to change my appointment time to a later one someday that same week. The computers were down, but she took my name and number. While I was in the cafeteria, she called and left me this wonderful message.... "I noticed you have an ultrasound on the 13th at 3:30, so I scheduled your OB appointment for 4pm that day."
I LOVE her! Hopefully I can talk with the nice appointment lady from here on out :)
Tiger--I'd have your dr call back. Brown blood is usually okay if you aren't having any other problems (cramping etc). It's usually just the 'old' blood getting cleaned out. However I would still make sure you talk with your dr. Can you call L&D and talk with a triage nurse there without going in? I know I did that a couple times when I was spotting from my placenta issues.
Tiger - I'm so sorry that dtr was so rough! Why are they so insensitive sometimes?! :mad: When I had an internal last wk in the hospital (which was my first the whole pg), I bled for 4 days afterwards. It turned brown on the 3rd day and stayed that way until it stopped. The nurse had told me after the exam that I could bleed for awhile but it was so nervewrecking regardless! I think as long as the bleeding is decreasing and turning brown, you should be ok....but certainly talk to a consulting nurse if you can just to make sure.
adoredh - Hugs! What an emotional day/week. Take it easy this weekend honey.
shushyk - Yay for no shot and healing! I love the idea of orchid plants as gifts - they're so pretty!
cj - Glad the little one started moving around again. Baby freaks me out w/ that every now and again as well......he'll be sooo quiet for a day or 2 and then get right back into his normal routine. And he's been quiet more often in the last couple weeks. They just don't have much room anymore, poor things!
(note to baby... just because it's labor day weekend, doesn't necessarily mean "labor" for you.)
LOL! My boss and co-workers were just yesterday discussing the origin of Labor Day and he said that I was the only one who could technically take the day off b/c none of the others (all girls in my office) were at risk of going into labor. We had to remind him (as he's from South Africa) that that is not the meaning of "Labor Day"! :D
cartersmommy - yay for the stroller! Hope your day goes fast so you can start the weekend!
carseat - I installed it yesterday so I could check the little level/guage thing and it ended up being level! Yay! Thanks again for that tip, hmbay!!
Have a dtr appt today that I am soooo anxious for. I've had pretty serious af-type cramping, bad lower backache and some good contractions the last couple days so it'll be good to go in and get checked. Last night I could barely move. We'll also do the GBS test.
I'm off to work - I'm in the middle of putting together my budget which is due today and between that, the dtr appt at 12:30 and our office closing at 3, it'll be a crazy day. Good news is that the budget was my last major project so I can go into labor whenever now and not feel guilty! :D Talk to you girls later - have a great last day before the holiday weekend!
godsgift77 Thanks! Also funny that you think 6 lbs means he won't be big and I think 6 lbs means a big baby! If he gains a 1/2 lb a week at 40 weeks that could easily be a 9-10 pounder. And that's just an average growth rate. Babycenter says at 34 weeks the baby should be 4 3/4 lbs so I think around 6 at that point can be considered big.
lvella43 Yup, he's a proud daddy. :D
amtaylor Sorry about the annoying appointment. My doc has tried to run out of the room a few times without asking if I had any questions before, but I've been able to stop her in time. ;) I always have something to ask these days. Glad you were able to reschedule your appointment.
cj Glad you took the day off. Hope baby cooperates and starts moving a lot soon! I feel more movement these days than actual kicks, and the doctor said it's normal for things to slow down a bit toward the end because there's just no more space left!
cartersmommy Hope you're feeling better.
1_mommy Glad you had a good appointment!
shushyk Thanks! Glad to hear that your finger is better. We had 3 games. The "guess how big around Lorene is with string" game, which was hilarious because some people thought I was huge!!! Not one person estimated smaller than I was, but one person was within 2-3 inches and she won. We also passed around a bin with typical baby items in it and everyone had to look and try to memorize what was in the bin. Then we took it away, and they had to write down what was in the bin from memory. The person with the most correct items won, and we got all the stuff that was in the bin! And then the last game required two people to try and cloth diaper a baby (safety pins and all), but both could only use one hand to do it together. The shortest time to complete, won.
adoredh Your shower games sound like they were fun! Sorry about the stress and sadness at your job today. Hang in there, it'll be okay.
Tiger Sorry the spotting has returned. I wouldn't worry too much since it is brown now. But they should have someone (doctor or nurse) on call to answer your questions. Does your hospital have a nurse-line maybe?
scubasam Sounds like your body is really gearing up for labor!
I spent this morning finishing unpacking and putting together and away all the stuff we got from our shower and our trip to BRU. Now I've just got to do baby laundry and thankyou notes!
Gotta go find some food for lunch! Be back later.
Thanks everyone for your help. I am not too worried since it is brown now. I think I am just more frustrated that there isn't anyone to talk to when I call my doctor. I guess that is one of the many drawbacks of living in a small town.
I'll be back later to do SO's. I am starving so I am off to lunch now.
I had my 34 week appointment this morning and have now officially met with all the doctors in the practice. I loved the doctor I met with today...he was so sweet. Out of all 5 doctors, I like my regular doctor first and him second. I'd be thrilled if he were the one on call when the baby decides to show up. I didn't gain an ounce between my last appointment and this one. Of course, I've lost fat and gained baby, so it is just evening itself out...but that's great. I am measuring two weeks ahead and they estimated the baby to be about 5 pounds. Not too bad! The doctor asked me about my drug preferences and I said, "Well, I'd really like to go natural and I don't want to have my options even told to me. If I want drugs, then I'll ask." I mentioned that we're doing Bradley because I think it is important that the doctor know that I am doing something to educate and prepare myself for a drug-free childbirth. His eyes got big and said, "You're the first patient in three years who has told me she's doing Bradley. It's amazing how it goes in circles. Right now everybody is breastfeeding, but a year or so ago everybody was bottle-feeding. It's really interesting to watch." He seemed to be very pro-Bradley, too.
I now start my weekly appointments. Next week I go for a non-stress test and then the next week I'll have a sono. Then I'll have another NST and then another sono. We'll keep that up until she's here. They really don't want me to go overdue, but I don't think it'll be a problem because I have a strong feeling that she'll be here early.
Shower games: My shower is next weekend and we are playing a grand total of....none. I despise shower games. More power to you if you enjoy them, but I'm not one of those people. :p
hello everyone! i am now officially on maternity leave!!!! :D the only thing is that i still woke up so early this morning because i'm so used to it. it's so good to just relax. hubby is going out of town for one day for the last time. i was going to go with him but i changed my mind being that i am now going to my 37th week. i was going to clean the bathroom and wash the baby's clothes but he made me promise not to do anything, NOT EVEN GO FOR A WALK :( he says that he doesn't want me to potentially go into labor without him here. so all i'll be doing tomorrow is watch tv and movies he's rented and put my feet up.
anyhow, we have a wedding to go to tonight so it should be a fun night for me and hubby minus my high heels. hope everyone has a relaxing, fun-filled labor day weekend and to those of you having a shower this weekend--have tons of fun!!!
No time for so's right now, just a quick flyby.
I just found out that my shower hosted by my sister is going to be Oct 2 :D Now I'm just trying to get my guest list down and decide on games, which brings me to the question - What shower games did/are you going to play? I'm looking for ideas for just about any type of game, but don't want ones that make anyone look like a fool, guests included. (like the tp around the belly game. Must have been a man that thought of that one)
We still can't move the rest of the furniture in until the crown molding/shelf is done along top the wainscoting. But having the chair in there means we're one step closer :D !
I woke up at about 3 am this morning writhing in pain and yelping. I had the worst cramp on the side of my uterus. It woke me from a very sound sleep and alerted Tim too. My head and neck were just drenched in sweat, it hurt so bad!
It wasn't a patterned contraction or anything, but a very sharp pain. Very different from any BH's I've had. Tim had me get down on all fours and a few minutes later it completely went away. I drank a bunch of water and was able to go right back to sleep.
It was odd and I've had no pain or discomfort since and baby has been moving normally (very active).
It struck me as interesting timing since I put together my hospital bag last night before I went to bed.
Chad n Liz Re: Shower Games.
At my shower, the guests each chose a pre-printed nursery rhyme and decorated a scrapbook page to match. My hostess had all sorts of scrapbooking supplies out for everyone to use as they wished. The rhymes were are collected in a book and I chose my favorite page and the person who did that page won a prize.
It was a cute activity more than a "game" per se, but I really think the guests enjoyed working on something and interacting and mingling that way. Plus I have a really cute book of personalized nursery rhymes to read to Baby G.
domesticdreamer - Oh, I love your glider! Very pretty. I had the exact same sharp pain on my side of my belly the other day too. It lasted for about an hour and had me kinda scared. Very different from the BHs.
Tiger and amtaylor - Sorry to hear how your doctor appointments went. Hope it was just a fluke and you won't have any more experiences like that.
I don't know what kind of shower games we will have at my shower next Saturday. I'm sure there will be some, just don't know yet what they will be. I have been a registry peeker as well. Someone has bought our pack-n-play! Score! :)
Yesterday I just didn't feel like going into work, so I called in sick. I call it one of my mental days. Plus I really didn't feel like having to make the hour long commute and use up all my expensive gas when we will be driving a lot this weekend. Thank goodness I start my new job that is 5 miles away in a week.
I finally started to put together a hospital bag. I need to get some nursing bras and maybe a cheap nightgown and robe.
Does anyone else feel like there is a brick laying on top of your cervix? It is the only way I can describe it to DH....just feels like this huge weight is pressing on my hoo-haw.
I just got a flyer in the mail which I thought was from BRU. I looked it over and I saw that they have some of the things we still need (i.e. activity gyms, butt paste, cabinet latches) on sale. So I was kind of peeved at first because BRU is about 26 miles away from us and we were just there last week end and with gas prices the way they are right now I really didn't feel like driving back there. But then I realized the flyer is actually from ToysRus which is only about two miles from my house! Yay! I am so excited now!
So I will make a trip there sometime this week end. I also have to go to Target and get some nursing bras and Target is right next door to ToysRus.
I can't decided which activity gym to pick. They have so many choices. I remember from being an AuPair that the baby gym was a life saver. Whenever I wanted to do something really frivolous for myself, like say....eat or use the restroom, I could put the baby under her baby gym and she would be content for at least 10 minutes. So I definitely have to get one once I figure out which one.
hi everyone!
my husband and i went to a wedding last night and we had such a great time. we are really relishing these last few days that we'll have to ourselves. we're so excited for the baby boy to be here but we know along comes so many changes as well.
at the reception, which was beautiful, i discovered how i truly no longer know my own body anymore. i enjoy dancing with my husband and i asked him to get on the dance floor with me but when i attempted to move, I COULDN'T move like i used to. it was so hard to maneuver my stomach. all i could do was dance from side to side. it was so awkward. i couldn't believe it. it was just funny though because dh knows how much i love to dance. our friends were cracking up also.
shushyk This one was fun – it was celebrity baby name matching – I found the weirdest celeb baby names and had folks guess. It was a great convo piece besides being funny – Talulah Bell ( what were they thinking!?)
Adoredh Sorry you had a rough day. I am the same way with the news lately which is why I am watching HGTV and TLC all weekend! Hope you are feeling better – your shower sounds like it was SO much fun!! :D
Lorialys I was trying to give myself the fantasy of NOT having a HUGE boy! LOL!! I am still worried that he’ll be a 9 pounder…
mcl Glad you had fun at the wedding! I tend to forget/not realize how big my belly is and bump into stuff all the time… *sigh*
I had my appointment yesterday and everything was good. I gained 1 lb and baby’s h/b was 138 and he was being stubborn about letting us hear it :D I also had my Strep test and will get the results next week (I think). I asked the doc about my swelling and she said that as long as my rings are not painful, they will not cut em off! Also she said something that made me realize WHY I’m swelling like this… I drink too much water and I don’t elevate my feet properly… My mom kept telling me that I needed to drink more water so I was up to a gallon a day and it seemed like the more I drank, the bigger I got… So today, I’m taking the doc’s advice and drinking only as I am thirsty… I still don’t think the ring is going to come off but at least the cankles may disappear soon! Doc said that I am retaining more water than most (also why I am measuring so far ahead) so I shouldn’t drink as much water because my body isn’t releasing it…
9 more working days and I’m on maternity leave!!! WOO HOO!! :D
My shower is tomorrow!!! I’m so excited!
Hey all
I hope that you are all having a great 3 day weekend. I have been really busy getting ready for school and trying to start prepping for my long term sub when I go out on maternity leave. I was absolutely exhausted by the time Friday came and we had Open House.
Kaelyn has been a really active baby especially the past month..well starting Thursday evening she started moving around significantly less. I figured it was because I had been so busy and on my feet so much..but then all day Friday there was little movement, and when she did move, I could barely feel it..I started to freak out and read every babybook I had..so Friday night I was up all night to see if I could feel her move and by 7 am Saturday morning I was so stressed and hadn't felt any movement for about 2 hours that I called the doctor who immediatley sent me to the hospital (triage)..We were so scared. When we got there they put on all of these monitors and once they found the heartbeat I sort of relaxed, it was bouncing between 140 and 150 which is normal. So I lay there for 2 hours while they did stress tests and monitored things...I was not having contractions which was a huge relief. So by 10 am I was sent home, and now have to record kick counts every evening and relax this weekend. I will NEVER again complain about being kicked/head butted etc...
Okay I am off to put Kaelyn's clothes in her new dresser :D I will post pics as soon as I can find the camera..
Have a great weekend
Lex, you AND the room look awesome!
sdmama2be - ahhhh how scary. There are a few times where I get super freaked out because of the soft kicks or lack of kicks at all. Then I am ready to go to the dr and the baby will be active again!
godsgift77 - that sounds like a really fun game.
mcl - I know moving is so different now isn't it. Forget about dancing :rolleyes:
Hi everyone else, super tired to do the rest of my S/O I have to VENT
Everyone that said they got the same crib as I did. DID IT COME BROKEN??? :mad: We need an entire new crib because the part where you put the matress support onto the crib and screw it in is ALL STRIPED. Both front posts and one back side (but since the back is all one peice we need to order an entire NEW crib)
Now I am thinking I might just return it, and say screw it I don't want the crib. We had to ask a friend to go with DH to get it since it wouldn't fit in our car. Now we have to RETURN the entire thing - and its ALL PUT TOGETHER.
too tired for shoutouts ladies but I do read along.....
I feel crappy. Been battling some nauseau, some lower pelvic pain and some lower back pain. I think I've had a few contractions (not sure if they were BH or "real" since I've had back pain today) but nothing that has gotten constant or stronger. No bloody show. Just more or less just being uncomfortable. I'm 37 weeks as of today so my guess is I'm thinking this kid is going to try to make an appearance sometime in the next week but I might be wrong. I guess we'll see. I still don't want to be the first on this thread although I am very tired of being pregnant so anyone else want to have their kid soon????? ;)
in other news we went to a friends wedding yesterday and I had to wear flip flops. Couldn't even get my pretty sparkly shoes on. :( Oh well she didn't care--she was just happy we made the wedding.
and my parents got the crib moved when we were gone so today I put the angelcare monitor in it and put sheets and the bumper on it so other than hanging up a dark out shade the room is ready to go although I think I might rearrange a few things.
hey girls!!
hope everyone is having a great long weekend! i'm so glad to not have to go into work tomorrow! YEA!! :)
Lexy-- you look amazing! and the room is really coming together, as far as i can tell! i love the little sweaters hanging on the shelf!! adorable!! more pics!
Shush-- no, our crib didn't come in damaged! i'm so sorry that yours did! what a pain in the a**!! I hope that you can either get it replaced or get a different one before baby arrives!!
heather--- LOL about not wanting to be the first to go. you're not going to persuade our kids out that way ;) ha! i have been feeling the same way the last day or so. kinda crampy, headachy, just overall icky. but then again, i haven't made myself do much, and i always feel icky when i just lay around doing nothing. could be my fault!!
had our book shower today. it was actually really fun. we got lots of great books for little carter, and some other great stuff! i will post pics when i get them from MIL, but someone made us an ABC quilt that will be an awesome play mat/blanket, we got our baby monitor, our stroller, a KC Chiefs outfit (too cute, DH is a FREAK about KC Chiefs!) and I also got a mothers bracelet from SIL's and MIL! I was so excited!! I love it!!! Everytime i look down my wrist says "Carter" and it makes me smile! :) I just can't believe that in less than a month he'll be here!
I washed all our bottles, pacifiers, and his clothes this weekend. made things feel SO real!! I am getting really excited, but also a little anxious about the whole delivery thing. I'm not nervous about pushing so much as I am to the laboring. I just hope that i can relax and make myself go with the natural flow! :) i'm sure it won't be a problem. (crossing fingers)
hope everyone had a great weekend!! talk to you soon!
Amanda
cartersmommy- sounds like you had a wonderful shower!
hmbay- just like you i don't want to be the first one to go either BUT i am so uncomfortable to the point that i just want my son here. my tummy is so hard. i think that he flipped face down because the whole front of my tummy is so hard (his back maybe) and my whole tummy now moves in that area vs. just limbs or knobs when he was the other way. also, ladies, i know this is TMI, but i'd been having diarrhea since this morning and lots of pressure on my lower abdomen. NO pain or bloody show yet though. i can't believe we're almost there. i hope everyone had a great weekend.
lex- beautiful room and you look great! i hope you get your glider soon.
shushyk- sorry about the crib. isn't that a pain. i hope that everything works out.
shushyk: Sorry to hear about your ordeal. That stinks! We just ordered the crib a week ago, we did not get it yet. I have read several reviews where this crib came either damaged or with parts that didn't fit. That is why we will have ours delivered and set up. I figured that way if it comes with holes that aren't drilled all the way, as one of the reviews said theirs did, they can take care of that right there and if it is damaged otherwise they can take it back and deliver another one. It wasn't even very expensive, $80 to deliver the crib, glider, and dresser, and $40 for setting up the crib. And the warehouse where we would have had to go to pick up the pieces is about 1.5 hours away and we would have had to rent a truck. So I figured paying extra for delivery and setup would be worth it to avoid the frustration of having to deal with returning a damaged crib. Right now we are waiting for a call from the warehouse to schedule a date.
sdmama2be: Wow that was scary! I'm glad everything is okay. I have noticed that my little one moves a lot less than he used to. He also doesn't kick much anymore he just wiggls around. I haven't really gotten concerned though because I just figure he is running out of room in there.
LexyLou
dragonfly-I agree that having the furniture set up is the best way to go. We also paid extra to have them set up the furniture and there was a huge gash on our hutch and since the delivery guys were there they took it back with them right away and within 3 days we had a new one.
So sorry Shushyk. What a bummer. It will all work out though and soon you'll have your beautiful baby!
cartersmommy-I'm glad your shower went well. Did you wind up getting your stroller system?
thanks for all the replies... UGH I am feeling better now. Just to clarify, the crib itself came in perfect shape its the holes that dont fit the screws. (so the screw just falls out. There is a way to fix it without taking the entire thing back (like putting this tape on the screw) but I don't feel comfortable doing that.
Here is a picture so far. The room is SUPER small, I think this is the best set up. (window covering should be here mid sept)
Alexis you look adorable!!
We had our shower yesterday and WOW we are so overwhelmed. We don't need anything else. We got the diaper champ, temporal thermometer, angel care monitor with 2 monitors, two baby carriers, two play gyms, two papasans, three diaper bags, 700 diapers, 900 wipes (literally), tons of baby care products, more clothes than will fit in his closet, two baby baths, countless frames and other deco stuff. We got enough money to start his college fund and enough gift cards to buy the glider from BRU....
We are so very blessed to have friends and family who care so much for our child!
I hope you are all having a nice relaxing weekend -- we've got to go start washing clothes..
Good morning everyone!
Off today as well - I love 3 day weekends! It's been a pretty low-key weekend so far which has been so nice. We are really trying to take advantage of our time off to relax or do things together. DH has been fishing the last 2 mornings and I've slept in which has been awesome. Saturday we had our childbirth prep class - it was useful for the most part - the instructor was great and there were some really fun couples there but overall, I think we probably could've skipped it. Not sure it was worth the $100, however, it did teach us ways to work together through labor and that's important. Yesterday I worked on the nursery a bit - got some more things washed, put things in drawers, etc. Went to Target for a bit afterwards and it literally just wiped me out! I spent the rest of the night on the couch.
I empathize w/ all of you who are feeling crappy - seems like I'm constantly having af-type cramping, tons of pelvic pressure, painful BH, backache, etc. It feels so debilitating at times and is really starting to annoy me, honestly, since it's been this way for at least 2 wks now. I will gladly volunteer to be the first to go!! :D
Speaking of which, had an appt on Friday. My OB was in surgery so I ended up w/ the same OB that was on call the night I was in L&D. He completely irritated me - he didn't remember meeting me or anything that went on so I had to tell him the whole story. Then he preceeded to give me info that was completely opposite of what he'd given me at the hospital...and was talking down to me, was negating everything that I was feeling (the cramps, etc) and acted like he was totally put out by having to cover the appt. I understand that they see a lot of people and can't remember but don't contridict yourself and don't treat patients that way. He did the GBS and then said I'm still at 1cm. Among other things, he said that if I ended up in L&D again before 38 wks that they'd stop the contractions again (which is opposite of what they said before) and I said "No, you won't...(for various reasons..blah, blah)." I think he was really taken aback by it. I started calling him on the contridictions b/c I was just so irritated that he was talking to me like I was stupid. I mean, come on, don't mess w/ a 36w pg woman....you should know this buddy. At that point he must've been just done w/ me because he left as quickly as he could. Once again, there is a reason why I only see MY OB!!!!
Anyway, enough of my rant. ;)
Shushyk - I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to fix the holes either. Besides, it should've been done right in the first place! I hope you are able to get a new crib or some other resolution! The nursery is looking great so far!
Lex - Love the nursery & you look great! I'm excited to see it all done w/ the glider in place (as I'm sure you are!).
cartersmommy - Sounds like a great shower! Cool that you got things in addition to books!
godsgift - We crossposted. Wow!!! What a fabulous shower - you are so set now!! Yay!!
Have a great day!
godsgift-- SO wonderful for having such a great shower!! i'm so glad!!! you'll have to post pics!!
shush-- love the room so far!! the dresser is awesome
i feel like poop today. either it's my allergies or it's a head cold. i'm completely congested, have a small headache behind my eye, and am just exhausted! maybe just my body telling me to slow down and rest before this kid pops out?! ha, i just hope i'm not getting sick. that would suck! i have a dr. appt. tomorrow morning, so maybe she can shed some light. my mom said i've been sounding stuffy lately, so maybe my sinus' are just swollen or something. whatever it is sucks.
hope you all have a great monday off!! :)
mcl Lucky you on maternity leave already!
domesticdreamer Beautiful glider, it looks so comfy!
godsgift77 It's okay, I understand. I won't tell anyone about your fantasy, LOL. ;) Glad your shower went so well!
sdmama2be Sorry you had to go into L&D triage, but I'm glad Kaelyn is alright!
LexyLou Cute belly shot!
shushyk So sorry your crib came broken. I hope it won't be too much trouble to have it fixed.
hmbay Sounds like your body might be gearing up for labor. I hope someone else beats you to the first baby though!!
cartersmommy Glad your shower went so well and you got lots of stuff other than just books!! I've had some allergy issues this weekend too, so it could definitely be due to fall allergies.
We installed Luke's carseat on Friday night. It's been fun riding around since then with the carseat in the back and thinking about how very soon there will be a baby sleeping (hopefully) in there! ;)
Saturday we went to Toys R Us to get our stroller. They were so understaffed, it was hard to get anyone's attention so they could go see if there were any strollers in the back. But they were very nice when we did get their attention. First they pulled the wrong one out of the back, I'm glad I noticed it was the Metrolite Delancy travel system and not the Metrolite LE Colby stroller. We don't need another carseat! Then it took them forever to figure out exactly which model we wanted, and then they said they didn't have any. Can you believe that they cannot order items for their customers? They get a truck in each week, and if the item isn't on the truck that week you are out of luck. They said to call on Tuesday and see if they had any. We got home and I decided to just order it online through amazon.com. We had to pay almost $15.00 in shipping, but I guess it is worth the hassle. It should be here later this week.
Morning.
DH and I had a very busy baby weekend.
Saturday, my sister and I went through everything from the baby shower. I made a list of things we still needed. I returned over $60 worth of stuff from Wal-Mart. Some people I don't think understand the concept of a registry. :rolleyes:
Sunday, DH worked on the baby's room and painted it yesterday.
Monday, my mom and I went to BRU for the crib mattress, glider and travel system. DH was excited about the travel system that we put it together as soon as I got home. It was so nice to see DH excited about the baby... it just doesn't happen to often :o We took everything off, so I will wash that tonight. Then we'll install the car seat and I'll have it checked sometime next week.
I found out Sunday from my mom that there are more things being bought off my registry. I've already had my shower (both sides of family) and there were a few people that I am really close to from my work there. I am wondering if they are going to have a SURPRISE shower at work for me from all the other employees that I work with (most of them are men)??
Too tired from SO's... Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend :D
Morning ladies!!! I've been reading along, but too tired to post (seems to be the trend around this thread, we are so close!!).
Our glider/ottoman came on Friday, so DH spent the evening assembling that. I love it, and so happy we splurged on the recliner feature. DH has been installing additional shelving in the closets so we can have more room for baby stuff. He's off this week from work so I expect major progress ;) Reality finally set in with how close we are, and he's been a man on a mission with getting stuff done. I hopefully will have almost complete nursery photos this week sometime. I meant to get our hospital bagged packed and birth plan completed but it didn't quite happen, oops, so that is this week in the evenings.
DH's birthday was in August, but we had been way to busy to get together with his parents to celebrate. We had brunch on Sunday. They gave DH a really fancy-smancy hard disk DVD video camera. They didn't know we already have one. :rolleyes: I was so proud of DH who usually never says anything, but he piped up and said he loved it but we do have one. He said we had been debating about upgrading our digital camera and would love to exchange the video camera for a new digital camera. They were ok with that (his dad gets so offended sometimes about gifts not being perfect), and MIL wants him to get whatever he wants. The video camera ended up being expensive enough we'll be able to get a great new digital camera, back up hard drive for our home laptop, a photo shop program for downloading pictures, and upgraded memory for the new camera. YEAH!!! We were having trouble justifying spending money on a new camera, so this settles that discussion. And apparently BRU had a good sale recently so MIL bought a few more things off our registry "for fun". She was on her best behavior this weekend and didn't try to rub my belly, so their visit was the least stressful we've had in a while :D
We went to dinner last night with friends, including a couple with a 5 month old. DH asked his buddy about how they handled calling parents on the way to the hospital. Turns one of the grandmothers (despite being asked not to) tried to push her way into the delivery room, which is what I picture happening with my MIL. DH is now coming to terms with the fact he may need to wait and call his parents post-birth instead of on our way to the hospital. Anyone else having this difficult conversation with family members?
Must get to work, so jealous of all the ladies who are on/so close to maternity leave..... :)
Well, this was both a wonderful & awful weekend at the same time. I'll explain in a minute.
Amanda: I just started feeling my seasonal allergies kick in over the past several days. It's that time of year! I'm not taking anything for them unless I get really miserable, though. If I get to that point, I'll go get some Claritin over-the-counter.
lorialys: I can't believe that nobody would help you @ BRU! At our local BRU, I always have 10 people coming up to ask me if they can help me with anything while I'm there. Sometimes they're TOO helpful! Glad you're getting the stroller via mail order anyway.
scubasam: I hope you don't end up seeing that same awful OB in the delivery room!
godsgift: I'm so excited for you that you had such a wonderful shower. We feel the same way - just blown away by everybody's generosity!
shushyk: I can't remember....did you get your crib at BRU? Our first crib was a Jardine crib from BRU, and it was the WORST quality....it wouldn't even go together. We were SO irritated that we boxed it back up & marched it right back to the store. They cheerfully accepted the return, but what a PITA! I hope the next one works out better for you. The room looks great, by the way!
EJM: I'm in the same exact situation with my family & the whole delivery room scenario. I've considered not calling them until after the baby is born, but once I saw the way our hospital is set up, I think we'll be OK. The entrance to the LDR unit is LOCKED from the waiting room for security reasons. It's also handy to keep unwanted visitors out of your room, because they won't let anybody into LDR & your room unless you give the nurse that controls the door an OK. Just let the nurses know as soon as you're admitted who is allowed to be back there when you're in labor, and who is allowed when you deliver. They are more than happy to be the bad guy for you & kick people out that you don't want around!
OK, so here's my update.
Good news: DH surprised me with an early anniversary/birthday present on Friday.......I GOT THE DIGITAL CAMERA I'VE BEEN HOPING FOR!
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/items/371194.jpg
It's the Canon Digital Rebel XT, and I can't believe I actually have it! It's an 8 megapixel SLR, and I love it! I'm up & running with it now, so hopefully I can share pics with you ladies more often now.
Bad news: My trouble free pregnancy has apparently come to an end. (I KNEW things were going TOO well!) On Saturday, my tailbone started to ache, and it quickly turned into a constant lower back pain. It's not like the kind of pain you have when you strain a back muscle, either - it's coming from deeper inside & it radiates out to my hips & thighs. It hasn't gotten any better, and the only way I can get relief is if I lay down on my side. Standing, sitting, & walking are extremely painful. Since my next Dr. appointment isn't until Thursday, I called SIL (SO nice to have an OB/GYN in the family!) to see if she had any idea what might be wrong. She said my symptoms match something called sacroiliac (SI) joint pain, which sometimes plagues pregnant women:
http://home.inreach.com/doodle/simages/si_joint2.gif
Hormones loosen your pelvic ligments to prepare the pelvis for the passage of the baby down the birth canal, and sometimes they loosen things a little too much! It's awful - I really can't do much of anything productive. It hurt so bad this morning that I cried while trying to get myself ready for work. DH even has to put my shoes on for me. :( I was able to move my 34 week appointment up to Wednesday, 9/7 @ 1:40 PM to see if I can get some relief a little sooner. We'll see what my Doctor says about it. Tylenol isn't even putting a dent in the pain. :( My big shower is Saturday, and 31 people are expected....I don't want to be in this kind of pain for that!
Dianecourt Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. Hopefully you can get some relief at your appt tomorrow. I have also been having some pain in my tail bone. It comes in spurts though and doesn't sound anywhere near as bad as your pain.
EJM Good score on new camera and all the other goodies! Glad you are making progress on the nursery
CJ sounds like you made a lot of progress on baby stuff this weekend too. That will be cool if your work has a surprise shower for you!
lorialys That's too bad that you ended up having to order the stroller online. I hate paying shipping, but you are right...sometimes it is just easier that way.
Lex Great belly shots! I love what I can see of the nursery too!
godsgift YEA for the great shower! It is so amazing how generous people can be!
I am so jealous of all the people who are getting ready to start their maternity leave. I plan on working as long as I can. I want to be able to take as much paid time off as possible after the baby, so that means I have to work now. I would love to be able to stay home right now though.
DH and I had a pretty good weekend. We got a lot of stuff done around the house. I am on a mission to get the house cleaned and keep it that way. I don't want to worry about having a dirty house when the baby comes and the company starts arriving. We still have several things I want to get done but I feel like we accomplished quite a bit this weekend. It's such a nice feeling.
I have not been sleeping well at all lately. I constantly wake up feeling like I can't breathe. If I prop my head up on 2 pillows, I feel better, but then it hurts my back to lay like that. It ends up being a no win situation. I am starting to feel like I am going to have this baby sooner than later. I have been having some pain in my tailbone and a lot of pressure in the pevic region. I have also been experiencing some AF like cramping on and off. Anyone else have this?
We start our first childbirth class on Thursday. They will go once a week for the next 4 weeks. I hope we get all of the classes in before the baby gets here!
I started packing my hospital bad last night. What is everyone putting in your bag? I don't want to pack too much but I want to make sure I have everything I need.
Oh...one more question...Where is everyone buying their nursing bras? I really wanted to get some of the camisole bras from Target but it says they don't have any available.
good morning everyone! i hope that you all had a wonderful labor day weekend!
TIGER-just like you, i'm also nesting. there are times when i'm really tired and then all of a sudden, i get a jolt of energy and EVERYTHING must be done. last night, i washed all of the baby's clothes and all of his linens and as i type, (taking a break) i'm actually putting them in their cute storage boxes. that's my project for the day plus cleaning the bathroom to make room for baby's stuff.
DIANECOURT- score on the camera! i hope that your tailbone pain subsides and that you will be able to rest up in preparation for the baby.
EJM- i'm so glad that you had a wonderful visit with your in laws. you guys scored too! everything you guys bought will come in handy when the baby gets here as i'm sure we will ALL be taking tons of pictures! you're right, the hospital will not let anyone in the L&D room without your permission. the L&D nurses for the most part always takes into account what you want/need/prefer (at least that's what i've observed when i would float there to help out from time to time).
it's official! my baby boy has completely taken over the house! i just had to get up at 5:30 am this morning because i felt the need to get everything done. dh was telling me to rest up and that things will be done. all i know is that i'm feeling different you guys. the baby has dropped. i now have a tummy resting on my lap and it's so uncomfortable when i'm on my feet for a while so i do want to get things done.
GOOD NEWS!--- two of my college roommates just called me this morning telling me that they wanted to surprise me but they are not able to due to the fact that they want to get it for us now!!! they're buying our travel system for us today. they are so sweet and generous. they said that this is the least they can do to welcome their nephew!
Hi ladies.
I have been reading along as well but, like most of you, have been too tired to post.
shushy I am really sorry about your crib coming in like that. Hopefully the new crib that you get comes in perfect :) I love your room though, its going to be gorgeous once its done! :)
Cartersmommy & godsgift Glad you both had great baby showers!! :)
Diane Court sorry about the joint pain.. Hopefully you can get some relief soon at your appt. Awesome on getting the camera you've wanted for so long :)
Tiger: I have been having some pain in my tailbone and a lot of pressure in the pevic region. I have also been experiencing some AF like cramping on and off. Anyone else have this? Yes, I have been feeling that way a lot too.
I am so tired. I am also tired of not being able to move around. It just keeps getting worse. I dread going to bed at night bc I know I wont be as comftorble.. I would just sleep on the couch but if Im not next to DH I cant go to sleep. Yesterday we did have a lot of fun though. We had a cook out with our neighboors (the guy who lives there is DH's best friend) and it was really nice to do something with other people for once. My mom was here for the weekend. It was really nice seeing her.. I wish she didnt live so far away! ok well.. I get to go do housework now. fun times :) Hope everyone has a great week!
mcl--just "had" to get something done huh? Nesting perhaps? ;) I'm all for you going first then I can go next! ;)
insurance rant--last time my insurance was wonderful. It cost me $220 to have Colin ($20 maternity care, $200 hospital copay). I shouldn't complain since with his extended hospital stay and my emergency c/s the total bill was actually around $70K. I figured it was the same deal this time on copays only maybe it had gone up to $300-350 or something since it's still the same insurance but I finally looked today--they changed the $200 hospital copay to 10%. And it looks like my two little trips to L&D were billed as hospital admittances instead of under the "blanket maternity coverage" for $20. Which means I thought I had to have around $350-400 stashed away to pay the bill but I'm probably looking at around $1k. I know that's still a piddly amount compared to what some of you will be paying depending on your insurance but I was so not expecting that on top of the other financial bind we're in right now with our tenants moving out Sept 17th and not having any renters lined up yet. ugh. I don't need this stress right now. I wish I'd never looked today and just got shocked when I got the bill later.
Tiger house cleaning mission- I feel the same. I wish I had the nursery done so that was one less thing to worry about. :rolleyes:
What is everyone putting in your bag - I have already packed too much :o Here is my list.
Hospital paperwork
Nightgown during labor (if don't want hospital issue)
Extra thick sanitary napkins
CD player, CDs
2 big towels
plastic bag for dirty clothes
Small gifts/cards for nurses
Slippers, socks, robe
Nursing bras, pads and underwear
PJs for after delivery
Toiletries (stuff for hair and makeup)
Pillows
Hard candies
Magazines, books, baby book, journal etc.
Clothes to wear home (i.e, maternity shirt and pants)
Food (bottled water, gold fish, crackers Gatorade
swimsuit
comfy shoes for DH
popsicles
cards, games, and stuff to read while waiting, DVDs to watch movies
cameras
coins for vending machine
massage stuff
cell phones (with #s)
email list for announcement email
:eek: TOO MUCH!! I so don't want to bring ALL this stuff but I feel like I have to?
BRAS - I bought a bravado online (I am very busty and needed a bigger size) also got a gift cert to motherwear and am buying from them too.
DianeCourt I did buy it from BRU what did you end up getting after the mess? Did you buy from BRU after that? We don't have much time left and I am feeling REALLY anxious now.
I hope your pain goes away soon ((((hugs)))) that sucks. I know I wake up almost crying from my hip pain, but that is usually only from sleeping. Laying on my sides really kill me. I find myself waking up on my back A LOT.
That camera is awesome. We just got a digital 2yrs ago, but I already hate it. I mean I love it for this or that, but for action shots the button takes a long time to refresh. So it takes the picture like 5 seconds after you are trying to take it.
EJM how much longer till mat leave? Hope your work day/week goes by fast. Hmmm MIL thing - maybe you should just wait. You can always make up something later. If MIL already knows that you guys want it just you in the delivery room then not calling till after baby is born should be fine. How far do they live from the hospital? Does your hospital allow you to request NO visitors? so if she did come would they not tell her where you guys are? glad you had a good visit at least.
All that stuff you got in place of the camera sounds wonderful!! Can you tell your IL's my b-day was in JULY ;)
c j isn't it crazy how excited the guys are getting now!!! DH called himself the "old man" yesterday LOL it was so funny. Saying how he wants to play golf with the baby.
lorialys thanks, I am kinda still annoyed about the crib, but slowly getting over it. My big fear/worry now is what happens if the NEXT one comes in bad too. I think we might put the seat in the car in another 2 weeks. It must be cool looking in there and thinking that a person will be sitting there soon! I think getting stuffed delivered is SO much better. I hate the hassel and for 15 bucks! Not bad.
cartersmommy thanks! I am really enjoying putting the room together, just wish I started a LITTLE earlier because of course now I am worried about not having it done on time. How are you feeling?
scubasam what a jerk that dr. is unbelievable. Is that one on-call if your other one is off? Or will you be delivering no matter what with the other dr? Your shower sounds wonderful! You got a lot of great stuff!!!
Oh there is no way I am "fixing" the crib, we ordered a new one. Now I am just worried if the new one comes in bad how long it will take to get an entire new one... They smell too I really want it to air out.
godsgift77 - thanks for the game stuff! I printed them all out and got the pencils/pens ready for the shower!! YAY for fun shower!
washing question what are you guys washing your clothes in, and how about the bumper and stuff. I am afraid to wash the bumper and have it look all funny when it comes out.
What is everyone putting in your bag? I don't want to pack too much but I want to make sure I have everything I need.
Tiger, I'm putting the relaxation things that I've enjoyed so far in my Bradley classes in there...things such as bottles of frozen water and my hot sock, a tennis ball to rub up and down my back, massage knuckles, Burts Bees for my lips, scented lotion (probably I'll actually use baby lotion because I like the smell of baby powder), and this is really bizarre...but I've been liking the smell of alcohol prep pads...it relaxes me for some reason (I smell them when I give myself an injection or when I test my blood), so I'm going to take some with me. I'm also taking my swimsuit and DH's swimsuit for the shower, a change of clothes to come home in and maybe some pajamas that button down the front, though I don't really want to bloody up my own clothes. I'd rather bloody the hospital gowns. I'm getting a really nice, huge boppy (called a Bosom Buddy, IIRC) that I'll take...plus all my bathroom items (toothbrush, toothpaste...that kind of thing). Her coming home clothes and maybe a onesie or something so she has her own clothes to wear...receiving blankets (unless we swipe some from the hospital)...and clothes and snacks for DH. Also, my doctor approved Gatorade even though the hospital says I can't have it, so I will have some Gatorade in there to sip when there aren't nurses in the room. I'm thinking of taking grapes, too, because they're not too carbalicious, but they provide a lot of water...and if I do get hungry, they will help. Plus, they won't hurt coming back up if I have a fancy transition. Finally, we're taking cell phones, my laptop, digital camera and cord (for posting pictures in my LJ) and cash so that someone - anyone - can go get me my first, long-awaited Chipotle Barbacoa burrito with half pinto beans, half black beans, rice, cheese, sour cream and guacamole from across the street. They have over 80 grams of carbs and are so off limits right now, so of course it is the one thing I am dying for.
eta: I almost forgot! We're having supplementary newborn screening done through Baylor Hospital...it is really cheap and will determine whether or not she has any metabolic disorders that could cause difficulty with certain foods or whatever. So, we'll be packing that paperwork. Also, if anybody here wants more info about the supplementary newborn screening (tests done that go above and beyond the normal screening for PKU and other things), you can get more info at:
http://www.baylorhealth.com/MedicalSpecialties/MetabolicDisease/newbornscreening.htm
They will send you a packet of info to give to your doctor and you send the kit back to them with your payment for the testing.
Wow!
Went to the Dr for my 36 week appointment. I'm 100% effaced and baby's head is SUPER low. The Dr. barely went in and felt it. She said if it goes any lower I'm in labor.
She said it could be any day now. She doesn't really think it will be this week or next week but she still wouldn't be surprised and she certainly doesn't think I'll go late...so it looks like I'm going to have a September baby! EEEKKKK.
Lex--yay! please go first and I'll gladly go 2nd! ;)
Lex: Ahhhhhhhhh, reality check! I'm now officially going to be in full nesting mode.....
Diane: I hope you feel better. I've had some pelvic pain, but I cannot imagine being in constant pain like what you are describing. Yeah on the new digital camera!!
Tiger: I'm trying to not take too much to the hospital. I searched for "hospital bag" on CC and found a recent thread. LML hit all the things we plan to pack.
I got 2 cheap maternity bras at Kohl's. As with everything at Kohl's they were on sale. I had originally bought the Target tops, but they were soooooooo small -- as in I'd probably need an XL and I'm not that big. When I went back to exchange them they didn't have my size and I've given up ordering them on-line. I plan to spend $$ on the Bravados but want to wait until after birth so I don't get the wrong size.
mcl: The hospital calls into our room to ask if person x, y, or z would be permitted, and we can always say no. But it would be hugely stressful for both of us to just know they are even in the waiting room. DH feels too guilty to wait until the baby is born, which is my preference -- only child syndrome. :rolleyes:
hmbay: Can you ask that your L&D visits be resubmitted? Sometimes it is a coding difference between insurance and hospitals. I've had to do this before with non-pregnancy doctors visits that were supposed to be 100% covered.
Shush: I'm using All Free & Clear for washing, no dryer sheets or fabric softener. I washed everything, except the bumpers. I did have to iron the bed skirt, but that wasn't a big deal. Our bumper covers zip off, but I'm lazy.
I'm working until the "bitter end" so probably Oct 12th, over a month. :( My IL's live about 2 hours from the hospital but that is plenty of time to get there before the baby is born since that is the typical time for pushing stage. She definitely won't be permitted to enter the room, but her presence can be so stressful.
lml: Love what the cash in your hospital bag is for! :D That is my DH's favorite too.
ETA: Oh, DH has also finally realized we need to come up with names and soon! Duh honey, you are the one holding up the process. I love the guy, but I refuse to even consider some of the names he throws out. :p I now am given a new list of possibilities each night. As long as Bean is a girl, we'll be fine -- it's the boy's names that are problems.
I still think MCL will be first. :)
After having my little scare on Friday with the baby not moving. I can't get the little one to stop!! :o I am sitting here with my legs spread out (feeling like a man) as far as they go and just can't get comfortable. My belly feels like it's in my lap, the kid it kicking and moving like crazy, and I feel like I could pee my pants any minute. Ugh...
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
EJM[ That was nice that your IL's didn't mind having the video recorder exchanged for a digital camera. Sounds like you made out well with the deal.
Diane Court Nice camera! Sorry about the pelvic pain. Let's hope you can find some relief tomorrow at your appointment.
Tiger Sounds like we have a similar mission. I sat down last night detailing a cleaning list for the week. I want to make sure things get cleaned and stay that way.
mcl What a wonderful surprise from your college friends!!
shushky Thanks for posting your list. There were a few things on there I need to remember to pack.
lml Thanks for the website about additional screening. I will have to check it out.
LexyLou :eek: You could be our first. I agree with EJM on the reality check. Now I am sitting here at work thinking... hold crap I have so much to get down before our baby gets here.
EJM I am glad that I am not the only one who's DH is holding up the baby name process. I have given up and just figured will find a name after the baby is born. Although DH did surprise me the other night and asked what I thought of the name "Amber". :eek: I didn't know what to say. :P
ejm--when I do get the final bill I will call. My insurance has been very good about some of that stuff and I think I might be able to convince them it should be covered under the $20 maternity copay but I'll just have to scrape up the money somewhere for the "real deal" when it happens. Ah well it's only money right? ;)
washing stuff--first kiddo I washed everything with target brand of dreft and it worked fine. I didnt' wash the carseat, stroller covers or bumper or anything until this time around and we were fine so for those of you who hadn't planned to wash them you probably don't have to but then again it can't hurt incase you have a baby with really sensative skin.
hey girls,
i'll try and get to SO's later, but first i had to post this, because i can't decide how i feel about any of this. had my 36 week appt today and our u/s was AMAZING!! Carter is weighing in at 6lbs 9oz! i know it can be off, but still!! wow!! already!! with 4 weeks left to go!! :) wowza.
then i had my normal appt. i slept in this AM and didn't have any water (which i'm really hoping is what caused this)... so i go to leave my speicmen and it's got tons of protein in it. she said that because of no water it could just be super concentrated, but now she's also warned me that if on Thursday (she is having me come in again for a bp and speicmen check) things aren't any better she'll be discussing inducing sometime in the near future. i had blood taken and hopefully that will all come back normal and will prove that i don't have preeclampsia, but i'm still really upset. i don't know why exactly either. i know this is fairly common, but i have just had NO problems, and all of the sudden THIS. i'm really scared and am ready for the baby but i wasn't expecting to go in and hear that we could have a baby next week!! YIKES! she did an internal today also, and i'm 1cm and mushy... and she was able to touch the baby's head, so if i was going to be induced, then it should go smoothly.... she said i was ahead of the game as far as dilation etc. I was in tears at the dr. office, and dh just thinks i'm worrying over nothing..... and i agree, if this is the only thing we have to worry about, then GREAT... but i've NEVER had anything wrong with me, so this is just all new to me. and she said i'd be normal right after delivery... GOD i hope she's right. so i'm on maternity leave now too, and on part time bed rest to see if i can get my slightly elevated bp to come down and not increase! ick.
sorry to be a downer.... does anyone think i should worry about this or should i??? i really am a worry-wart, and can't help it! but tell me if i'm overreacting!
Amanda,
I don't think you should worry - if it were really bad, the doctor would have put you in the hospital. You said that your due date has flip-flopped from September 26th to October 2. That would put you at 36 or 37 weeks today. 37 weeks is full term, so if you were to be induced and deliver now, Carter would probably be just fine. Also, you already know this but worrying and panicking will only raise your BP - which will make your results on Thursday skewed. If there's something that you can do to relax yourself, definitely do that. My MIL was on full bed-rest in the hospital for the last 2 months of pregnancy due to preeclampsia...they wouldn't let her leave the bed to pee! After three weeks, when her BP wouldn't go down, she told the doctor, "I really want to wash my hair. I promise you that if you'll let me wash my hair, my blood pressure will go down." Sure enough, as soon as they let her up to use the shower and she had clean hair, her BP went down.
Amanda Hugs to you! Things will be okay. I agree with lml that you should find something that calms you and just try to relax... I know easier said then done. :p
Amanda - 36 weeks is for all purposes "Full Term" so you and Carter will both be fine. I know mentally you aren't prepared to have a baby next week, but it will be fine. You and Carter will both be healthy and that's all that matters. :)
I agree--depending on your dr they consider either 36 or 37 weeks FT. It will be fine if Carter makes his entrance sooner than you thought. :)
Amanda, I'm sure everything will be fine even if Carter wants to come early. 6lbs 9oz is not really a small baby.
Lex, I can't believe it could be soon for you too!
I feel like I'm WAY behind all of you. We have our first baby class this weekend and my shower is on Sunday. So far the Pack 'n' Play, diaper pail and baby bathtub have been bought of the registery. I'm so excited! :D
i am officially uncomfortable. i have really been feeling great up til yesterday. it hurts to walk because i have constant pressure down there. i can't sleep at night, can't find a comfortable position, then as soon as i do, i gotta get up to pee, and i am talking like every 2 hrs. walking is a chore. i took dd to the mall this morning and was walking so, so slow because of the pressure, then my ancles and feet hurt.
i was hoping to make it longer without feeling so uncomfortable. this is when i want oct to hurry up and be here so i can feel good again.
ejm Score on the camera! Sorry to hear about the IL’s and the delivery room. This conversation hasn’t come up yet, and I’m sorta scared to bring it up because of the tension that will probably come from it. If we do call them before baby is here, then we will make sure all the staff knows that the only other person allowed in the room will be dh. So even if they try to barge their way (which wouldn’t surprise me) they won’t be allowed in. I think if you make it very clear to the staff who is and isn’t allowed in the room, then they will help you carry out your wishes.
dianecourt Yeah for a new camera! That sucks about the SI pain though. I hope your doc can provide some relief for you soon!
Tiger I’ve only bought one nursing bra so far, and I got it from Motherhood. It’s not a tank style, but it is supposed to be really comfortable. I did see some other tank style nursing tops somewhere else besides target, but now I can’t remember where :rolleyes: The gap maybe? I only plan on buying one for now to see how it fits, and then buying the rest afterwards.
Sorry to hear about the shortness of breath and back pain. I’m feeling the same way too.
Maternity leave jealousy Count me in too. I keep telling myself that my turn will come in soon enough, and that I might as well learn patience now. (not helping :cool: )
hmbay Sorry to hear about the hospital charges. I’m sure you know this already, but make sure you get an itemized list of your bill after your hospital stay to make sure there aren’t any charges that shouldn’t be there to help bring the cost down some. Crossing my fingers that you find new tenants soon!
Nesting Count me in too! My latest thing has been washing/shampooing everything. Yesterday, I spent the entire day shampooing carpets, (again) washing bedding (even the cats’ beds), and washing more of Daytona’s clothes. I don’t know what my deal has been lately, but cat hair has been annoying the crap out of me. I vacuum all the time-usually once a day (furniture included) and have been washing the bedding (where the cats spend most of the day) at least once a week. It never really bothered me before, but now, if I can see hair on it, it has to be washed.
Hospital Bag I plan on bringing my regular bathroom products, plenty of socks to keep my feet warm, lip balm, nursing bra, camera, laptop, cell phone, coming home outfit for baby, and myself, swimsuit for me and dh, pajamas (not sure if I’ll use them yet as I really don’t want to ruin my things) magazines cards, etc to keep me from getting bored, a focus object, birth plan, call list, snacks, suckers, pillows, baby book,
detergent I can’t remember what kind exactly, but we have the generic brand from target in free and clear. I think it’s either All, or Target’s brand though. Plus a few free samples of Dreft.
lex How exciting to hear the “any day now” speech. I can’t wait til I get to hear that! (of course my luck, it’ll be like 2 or 3 weeks after I hear that :o )
Cartersmommy Sorry to hear about the dr.’s appt, although no matter what happens, everything will be fine. Maybe you can convince your dh to give you a couple of extra back rubs to help you relax more. :p
1mommy Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling so crummy lately…unfortunately I think that is the general consensus around here.
Not much news here. Counting down the weeks until my maternity leave. (7 left) Everyday after I leave work, i say to myself, only 6 more mondays, only 6 more tuesdays, etc. I have a feeling I'm making it feel even longer doing it that way :rolleyes:
I have my next dr.'s appt tomorrow, so hoping everything goes well. Haven't had any real problems yet so I don't suspect anything to come up. I'm also going to try (really hard) to remember to ask the dr how long overdue they will let me go and if they can tell which way the baby is now. I don't know what the deal is, but I've meant to ask these questions for weeks now, and somehow always forget. Must be the pregnancy brain kicking in.
Today was hard to get up and go back to school. I was NOT ready. I've been feeling weird today. She's been moving a bit strangely and I'm real sore everytime she moves. I'm also sore in the pelvic region... definitely not a great feeling! The best part is the groin pain. I get numb and tinglely down my right leg with an occasional sharp pain or two. They have been getting worse and I have had to stop and regroup while walking this evening.
Tonight we have a breastfeeding class at the hospital. Marc joked and said... "well while we are there..." and "it will save us a trip.." That's SO not funny! I'm definitely not ready for her to make her appearance yet!
Maternity Leave: Count me in as jealous! I get zero paid leave, so I'll be working up until the point my water breaks :rolleyes:
Nesting - I've got issues with nesting, too. The problem is that I have so much I want to do, but no time to do it. Fortunately, I've been communicating my list to DH and he's been working on it while he's home (he's still on half-days at work). I was considering taking the week off before my due date if she isn't here yet...that way I can clean and get things totally ready before she gets here. I'm also motivated by not wanting my MIL to see any clutter...she has this incredibly annoying habit of cleaning my house and I don't want her to touch a thing.
Nursing bras - I've got two that I bought at BRU that are ok. They have underwire, though, so I'm going to start looking for some that don't.
Maternity leave - I'm not jealous but that's cause I've got a secret. ;)
Good luck to those whose labor is impending! Try to rest up as much as possible...
***
In-law vent...I know I do this a lot. Weekend before last, MIL called DH and asked if we'd come over on 9/10. DH forgot about our hospital childbirth class, so I had to call MIL last Monday and back out. I offered up this past weekend or Sunday the 11th as an alternative and she said that was simply not doable because SIL goes to church on Sundays and doesn't miss morning or evening services, that she wanted to see us all together and that they would be at the lakehouse this past weekend and FIL wouldn't be in town. So she expects me to cancel my childbirth classes that we've paid for and are kinda important to attend because they're the ones where I learn hospital policies? Whatever. I told DH that the offer still stood...we could go one weekend or the next, but not both and not on Saturday.
Come to find out, FIL came home early...so on Saturday night she calls and invites us to the lakehouse...2.5-3 hours away...for Saturday night. We wouldn't have gotten there until 10 and I wasn't sleeping over because she won't let the dogs be inside. So, she said, "How about Sunday, then?" DH decided he really wanted to go, so we went. I reminded him that the deal was either this past weekend or this coming, but not both. I also reminded him that our stroller and carseat would arrive at her house this week and that she'd try to manipulate us into driving to pick it up and that I didn't want to pay for gas and spend all that time in the car two weekends in a row. So, we went on Sunday...but strangely, SIL wasn't there with her family. What happened to wanting to see us all at the same time?
Sure enough, as we were leaving, MIL said, "So, what time next weekend are y'all coming to [Hometown]?" I said, "We weren't planning to because we came here this weekend." She said, "But the carseat and stroller will be there and you NEED that in case the baby gets here. And plus I'll have the bedding finished and you'll want that, too." :mad: I'll bet you a dollar we end up driving over there at some point this weekend. And then the next weekend is DH's nephew's birthday and she wants us to come over that weekend too. She can...do something not nice...for all I care. If I'm skipping childbirth class on the 17th, it will be so I can go to my hometown's fall festival and eat some really yummy stew not so I can go to her house and sit around twiddling my thumbs and listening to 3 kids bicker, fight, throw temper tantrums and scream about not wanting to eat what was fixed.
Oh...and we showed them floor plans we're considering for the house we want to build...DH mentioned that we could potentially be in by Christmas and that we'd like to host Christmas dinner. I laughed and half-jokingly said, "Yeah...although wouldn't it be a shame if [SIL] and her family never saw the house we have lived in for a year and a half?" MIL said, "Well, if you'd invite us all over, we'd all come." BS. We have invited them all over and MIL and SIL always find a reason why it just won't work. And if they can't find a reason, they make one up. The real reason is that SIL lives 45 minutes from MIL and an hour and a half from us and she just doesn't want to drive that far. We live an hour and 45 minutes from MIL and drive to see the family 98% of the time. The other 2% is when MIL and FIL have come over to help with the house.
Only good thing is that we established that as long as we call her to tell her when I go into labor, she will wait at home and not come until we tell her to. She knows she's not going to be invited into the delivery room. My mom, on the other hand, would like to be at the hospital while I labor just in case I want her to come in the delivery room. I'd actually rather she come over while I'm in first stage so that she can French braid my hair so it will be out of the way. I don't want to have to go to the salon to have that done...and what if I can't be worked in while I'm in first stage? I know that while i'm in second stage I won't be interested in having it done...but I definitely want my hair out of the way and I want something more comfortable than a messy bun or ponytail.
DianeCourt-UGG, I had that sacrialiac pain very early in the pregnancy and it was no fun at all. It seriously reduced me to tears and I have chronic back pain so I have a very high pain threshold but sacriliac is really painful. I hope you are at home resting it...did they give you vicodin? That's totally safe to take and will help you with the pain.
Astara-I can't sleep without my DH either...which sucks because the brat is always stealing my body pillow. :D
chad and liz-I didn't even think about requesting an itemized bill. Thanks for pointing that out.
hmbay-I'm so sorry about your insurance. 1K is a lot of money and I would be frustrated too.
amanda-I wouldn't worry too much. Like the others have said if they were really worried they would admit you right away ans really if he's already 6.9 then he's a good size. Exciting though! :)
lorialys Sorry about your stroller issue – my mom ended up getting our metrolite from WalMart b/c it was about $30 cheaper…
Dianecourt COOL camera!!! My hips hurt too! I’ve got an appt. on the 16th but don’t know what to do until then… that’s when she’s going to take me off of work anyway….
Lex oh WOW! That close already?!?
Amanda {{HUGS}} I have a friend who had preclampsia her entire 3rd tri and her son was just fine… I hope you feel better soon!
lml whats the secret??
maternity leave 8 working days left!!
Nesting I am SO wiped out! I tried to be superwoman yesterday and wash ALL of CJ’s clothes – he had 6 grown-up loads of clothes and they are all but one folded and put away! Who knew that a kid could have so many clothes before he even makes his appearance! I washed them in All free & clear. Then I cleaned the kitchen and living room and the baby’s bathroom…
DH was so cute! He was so excited about the gadgets that he installed/assembled everything. He put my glider together, then installed and tested the monitor, then put in the dimmer switch and put new shelves in baby’s room. What a sweetie! :D
Now I have a pain in my back that hurts so bad that I can't bend to the left at all. Last night I was almost in tears because it hurt to move at all :( Today my allergies are really bothering me – nose is stuffy and I just feel icky. I’m having pain in their hips/pelvis area – no pelvic pressure and it doesn’t feel like cramps, it feels like my joints are trying to run away from each other!
We have our first class next week – there are only two so I guess its not so bad waiting so long…
hey girls,
thanks for the encouragement. the funny thing is, i'm not worried at all about the baby! i'm more worried about me! i know that sounds selfish, but the dr. assured me that the only thing this would effect is my fluid level around the baby, and she said that wouldn't be a big deal seeing as i'm almost full term. i just want to be able to labor naturally and not have to worry about all the other stuff that pre-e comes with. hopefully tomorrow my blood work will come back fine and i won't have to worry. DH is certain that it's because i didn't drink ANY water this AM.... and i always drown myself before appointments so i can leave a good speicmen. oh well, i know there's nothing i can do! so i shouldn't worry!
the cutest thing about the appt today was that Carter has a FULL head of hair and is a thumb sucker! :) he has chubby cheeks and from what the tech could tell he has daddy's lips! :) very cute. i can't wait to see what he looks like!
and lexy--- WOW! sounds like you could be our first one unless they induce me asap.... can you believe it?!?! thats nuts! i can't believe she's so low! your last belly shot really didn't look like she was about the fall out! :) hope it's not bothering you too much.
ok, going to drink some water and relax! talk to you girls later on!
Nesting -this weekend we steamed cleaned the carpets, I washed all the base boards in the house, dusted the fan blades on our celling fans, washed the windows inside and out (they tilt in so I could do them) and latter taht night, I had major contractions, in my front and in my back. DH was so excited he wanted to start counting them, but I told him no. Half hour latter, he wanted to take me to the hospital, I was so uncomfortable. I drank a ton of water and layed on my left side, they started going away after an hour or so (still had them through the night, but not like how they started) Had about 20 of them on Monday... so , lesson for the girls, try not to go over board on nesting :)
Had my Dr's apt today - lost a pound, bp and protein are a-ok - but they wanted to check me again since I had those major contrax this weekend. Had another contrax while I was getting the exam - but guess what, all those lovely contrax are not doing a darn thing right now! LOL! (this is good, but not going to be so good in two weeks when I wish they were doing stuff) I can say that having a contrax while walking through Walmart - not so fun, but doable.
Hope everyone is feeling well, I'm caught up, but to be honest, after my first day at the new office with the merger, all I want to do is go to bed!
One little funny note- I had the Dr write a scrip for DH - it says: Alarm is not to be set prior to 0630, Dr's orders - since he likes to set it at 530am and hits snooze for an hour- after not sleeping all night due to allergies, I was more in the mood to bean him over the head with the alarm clock. I thought requesting a drs note would be cute and still get my point across :D
Just wanted to say really quick to Amanda in Bradleys class they talk about how if you get 80-100 grams of protien a day you wont get preeclampsia sp???
I am sure you are fine, but from now till the next BP check in try getting LOTS AND LOTS of protien and water. Eat eggs or french toast for B-fast. (frozen french toast from aunt jamima has 8 per 2 slices) eat almonds, chicken, I like chicken nuggets with honey YUMMY, drink milk as a snack, try writing down the amounts of protien you are getting per day and see if you can get to 100 every day. Bradleys swears by it!!!
Hi everyone else, be back later for more s/o
wow ladies! it seems like a lot of us are gearing up for the big day!
LEX- i think that YOU will be the first one to deliver. i can't believe the progress you've made. and i agree that on your last picture, it didn't look like you were carrying low. maybe ella listened to you about having sapphire for a birthstone.
i've got a lot accomplished today. i cleaned the bathroom and the baby's stuff is now in there and i've put away his clothes. we're waiting to hear from the store for our travel system that my friends got.
our bags are packed! one for me and one for dh. he also got the digital camera and video camera ready with new batteries.
we just need to stock up on easy to cook meals (meaning frozen foods) for dh, but the ladies from our church will also take turns bringing us meals.
have a good night everyone!
well I woke up with cramping and some light spotting again. Actually I think this time it's my mucous plug and not really "spotting"n as it's more mucousy. Hmm my drs appt isn't until tomorrow afternoon and he hasn't even tested me for GBS yet. I think if something would happen today and I haven't been tested they just give me the antibiotics anyhow don't they? I think I have to have an IV because of the vbac/placenta issues so I guess it's not that big of a deal if I have to have one for GBS. we'll just see how the day goes. I went into work because well I'm not really in labor--just having signs it will most likely be coming sometime in the next few days/weeks but I knew that already since I know my dr won't let me go much beyond 39 weeks because of the previous c/s so that's no big surprise. Funny thing is my SIL is being induced Thursday morning, my BF from HS is having an ERC on Friday and my BF from grammar school is having regular contractions as I type. Maybe we'll all have our kids the end of the week! ;)
hmbay & LexyLou: I agree - this is very exciting! Keep us updated!
Hey, now that I have this fancy new digital camera, I'm looking to sign up with a new online photo sharing service. I've been using Sony's Imagstation, but it's not the most user friendly. What does everybody recommend? Shutterfly? Snapfish? Why? Thanks for your help. I'll be back later to update after my 34 week appointment this afternoon. I'm happy to report that my back pain is improved today, but still there & still VERY annoying. At least I was able to get a full night's sleep last night.
MP--well I haven't seen any more of it since this morning but I'm still having cramping on and off. I don't think labor is impending as in the next day or two but you never know. And I didn't lose enough of it this morning to have lost it all unless I lost some of it previously when I was having bleeding issues (tmi but there were some clumps in with some of the spotting but they weren't really mucousy). lex or amanda or mcl can gladly go first! :)
PUPPPs--anyone else experiencing this? what I thought was my c/s scar started itching like crazy a few days ago and now it seems to have spread and I have tiny little itchy pimples scattered over my stomach. Sounds like it's nothing to be concerned about (http://dermatology.about.com/cs/pregnancy/a/puppp.htm) but man does it ITCH!!!!! I find it interesting they say 70% of the women who get it have boys.....
dianecourt--hmm I prefer shutterfly actually. I've tried snapfish but not used it much. I use photobucket too as shutterfly doesn't work directly on livejournal. But I've uploaded most of my stuff to shutterfly and ordered pictures from there and been happy with the results.
PUPPP's Not yet but heard it's very popular for 1st time moms. My sister had it and it spread to her face and arms. Oh and she had a girl :)
oh goodie. :rolleyes: I'll settle for just my stomach thank you. It's bad enough there. Sounds like some drs will prescribe a cortisone cream for it. I'll have to ask mine tomorrow if this itching doesn't drive me insane before then.
Holy moly, I can't believe it either that there are some people soooooo CLOSE to delivering. My money is still on cartersmommy though to be the first! :D
People at hospital - Luckily DH and I are a united team to our families. Even though he would love to have his mom in the room with us, I told him no way! He told his parents that neither of them are allowed in and I know he will enforce it if they try to come in. My mom just assumed she'd be in the room with me as well and I told her point blank that she wouldn't be. It would just be me and DH. When I'm in pain, I really don't want a lot of people around me.
Hospital bag - I bought some trial size things like toothpaste, shampoo this weekend and started putting my bag together. I've still got to get a robe, and some nursing bras. I also need to put the baby book in it, so I can get his footprints stamped into it. I might throw in a deck of cards in case me and DH get bored.
Maternity leave - I'm jealous at those who are taking off prior to delivery. I want to save all my time for after the baby is born even though I would LOVE to stop working earlier. I've got a countdown going as well as to how many days I have left working. It seems to be the only thing to keep me going these days.
Have an appointment this afternoon. Not sure if the doctor will do an internal and the strep test since I'm only 35 weeks.
I can't stop walking by and staring at the room. I can't wait for the new crib to get here so I can finish putting that together. There MIGHT be room in there enough to fit a small glider. NOT SURE. If not that, we need something maybe a little table or book shelf. But then I wonder what color since it will be hard to try to find yet another peice of wood that matches.
Right now the room is a bit stinky from the new carpet, the crib, and bedding (I will wash that on sat or sunday after the shower)
Hope everyone has a great day.
hmbay - sorry about the pupps
Lex OMG that is crazy, did you have any idea?
QOTD - for those of you who "dropped" how could you tell?
DianeCourt - I like Shutterfly. Ofoto requires you to make at least one purchase per year to keep your account active. Sure, I buy more than that, but I like that Shutterfly will keep my photos indefinitely. I also upload them to Photobucket to use on LJ.
QOTD - for those of you who "dropped" how could you tell?
I *think* I've dropped, but I'm not certain. I can breathe more easily, I haven't needed heartburn medicine in awhile (knock on wood) and I have to pee a whole lot more often.
Your nursery looks great, shushyk!
PUPPS - is that red dots? I can't remember
Diane - I use Snapfish and Shutterfly because sometimes one will cut off the photo and the other won't. Snapfish, I believe, requires you to purchase something every so often. I purchased and was happy with the pictures. I use those two to post to CC and I use groups.msn.com to post to LJ. Sometimes groups.msn.com puts an ampersand in the URL, which doesn't work on CC for some reason...so I usually upload to two, sometimes all three sites.
cj - I've shared my secret in my LJ, but I can't share it on CC yet. ;)
I prefer Shutterfly...they are all good but I just started using it years ago and it's been my online photo place ever since.
hmbay-You are a strong woman. I don't know if I would go to work today if I started losing my mucas plug...maybe that's all the difference between first time mom's and second time moms. You're an old pro. When's your actual due date again?
Going First-I honestly don't think I'll go first. I REALLY want to keep this baby in until at least 38 weeks. I haven't been put on bed rest or anything, I just can't really work out. I've been doing my prenatal yoga and walking the dog but like I said, I would feel much better letting her back another couple of weeks. Anytime after the 19th of September is AOK with me but if you could all give her vibes to stay put until then, I would appreciate it. :)
QOTD-Dropping-To be honest with you, I don't think it even looks like I've dropped. I know the baby has dropped because the Dr. told me but her legs are still all the way under my rib cage so she's a long one. I don't know if everyone's belly actually drops or if it's just some woman depending on how you carry. I know she's down there though because my stomach is bigger (can eat more) but my bladder is like the size of a quarter. I got up 7 times last night to pee....grrr.
pupps-my belly has gotten itchier lately and I get a rashy look sometimes but it goes away...that article says it starts at the stretch marks, do you have to have stretch marks to get PUPPS? I don't have any stretch marks so I'm wondering if I'm just getting the rash from my itching.
shushyk-The rug looks great. When do you get the new crib?
Lex--well I figure until I know for sure I'm in labor I need to be at work. I can't afford to take extra time off as much as I'd like to. My SIL says she lost her MP last week and still hasn't gone into labor so I'm not freaking about losing it right now--I was getting a bit freaked out with the backache and contractions I had erratically on Sunday though! ;)
pupps--hmm I don't know if you can get it without stretchmarks or not. I do have stretchmarks this time. The itching started on my lower belly and I figured it was my c/s scar and it's worked it's way up until I noticed little red pimply like itchy things scattered across my stomach up to my chest level. It's still the lower belly (c/s and stretchmarks) that itchy like crazy though more than the upper belly but I can't get a really good look at what the lower belly really looks like at the moment. ;) I do know I just had general "stretching skin" itching last time which is normal but I didn't have this.
QOTD - Photos - I LOVE shutterfly. I have ordered pics from them and if they don't come out right they will correct for free. THey send me coupons and stuff. PLUS they are always up when I use them to post.
LexyLou - Gosh I hope it comes in by next week. I am getting a bit anxious because if that one is bad TOO then I am SCREWED! :o :eek:
lml41981 - Thanks, I am so loving the nursery. I just can't wait to get some stuff up on the walls and the window coverings. It will really pull it all together.
OK - after the dropping Q - I don't think I did. I DONT KNOW. I CAN eat more, but I still get h/b. I do pee more, but sometimes I can still sleep through MOST of the night only getting up 2 or 3 times.
Just made my apt. with the pediatrician. Did you guys meet with yours yet?
shushyk - Love your rug and the sheeps on the comforter. It looks similar to our bedding we have. I'm with you in that I thought I might have dropped but realized I haven't. (Hey a girl can wish can't she?) I noticed I can eat more, but like you I still get heartburn and only have to make 1-2 trips a night to the bathroom.
Lexylou - Sending a bunch of vibes to keep that baby girls of yours in place for a few more weeks. :D
pediatrician - The doctor I go to now is a family doctor. I like him and his style and really like his staff, so I decided to stay with him as the baby's doctor as well. I like the fact the two of us will have the same doctor and that he will know the baby's history from the very beginning. Friends and family are shocked that I'm not going to an OB and that I won't be taking the baby to a pediatrician, but I'm comfortable with the care I've received.
Lexy Wow! I will hope and send vibes for baby ella to stay put until at least the 19th. My DH steals my blankets and sheets! I cant stand it~ :) He likes to roll up in them until he is totally covered.
cj Yay on feeling the baby move like crazy!! :) I've been feeling pretty manly myself too lately! LOL :)
carters mommy I will be thinking of you this week. Hopefully it was just because of the water or something. I understand that you are mostly nervous for yourself right now, I would feel the same way. PreE is a big thing to have to deal with. But at least if you do have to be induced, your considered full term and if you have PreE it will go away once you give birth. At least it isnt something that will stick around.
Tulip dont worry.. Im behind you! so at least your not the furthest behind~ Our parent preview class is tomorrow but then we have our newborn class next week. Our shower isnt until the 17th so no one has bought anything yet. That doesnt stop me from checking of course :)
1_mommy I totally sympathize. I never thought I would be so excited to go into labor.. now I find myself wishing I was one of the ladies here that will be ready near the end of sept. I am ready!!
Chad and Liz Yay on everything going well! I always seem to forget to ask questions about the same things too! Beautiful Belly shots! :)
lml I am really sorry about the whole MIL issues you've been dealing with. I would have to go on MIL strike or something!
hmbay wow you are so close~ I Hope you get something to relieve that itchiness.
Diane I also use shutterfly and I love it. It's really easy to use and the quality of the prints that come back are awesome!
shushy Beautiful nursery! Love the rug.. it goes beautifully with the bedding and furniture!! Thanks for reminding me about the Pediatrician. I have to make that appointment still! ahh im so far behind. I still have to send in our L&D registration too.
Extra tired today again. Hopefully I can make it to the store. I had to reschedule my appt yesterday for friday instead.. this week is going to be busy, we have our parent preview class tomorrow.. its so sad that we are just now taking a tour of L&D!
I feel lots of pressure down there too and have to go to the bathroom more frequently. my feet hurt so bad at the ball of my foot. Poor DH was complaining last night that he was sore.. I was like oh your arm is sore?? My WHOLE BODY is sore and it has been and it probably will be until I deliver. poor guy.. i know he cant wait to get his wife back!
DianeCourt Sorry about the sacroiliac joint pain!! I hope it gets better soon.
shushyk I washed our bumper in All Baby and dried it mostly in the dryer (took it out before it was completely dry and let it air dry). It turned out just fine! Cute rug!
LexyLou Wow, what a surprise! That's exciting.
cartersmommy Way to go for growing such a big boy!! Sorry to hear about the possible pre-eclampsia, I hope you can relax and the levels go down.
Michelle and Curtis You look great! I hope the ultrasound goes well.
hmbay Sorry to hear about the PUPPPs
Photos I use shutterfly mostly, and I love it. I've ordered from there as well, and their stuff comes out great. I hate photobucket, and I use mpix for livejournal but I don't like it very much either.
I don't think this baby has dropped yet.
Which reminds me, I have belly shots to post!!
I can't believe he's still getting bigger in there. It doesn't look like there is any room to grow!!
I am so uncomfortable it is not even funny. My ribs are killing me!! I wish this child would drop already and get the heck out of there. Though it feels like he's pretty low as it is, since when I'm sitting I have major pressure on my hips and pelvis. I'm probably just lucky like Lex and he's a long one or something. I had a bunch of BH last night they were pretty strong but not painful and they didn't stick around or anything. Bummer. I'm totally ready, even though I'd like him to stay put for a few more weeks still.
hi everyone,
photos- i use photoshop and i love it. you can do minor enhancing and you can keep photos indefinitely without purchasing.
dropping- aside from people telling me that i've dropped, i've also felt it. i used to carry so high but now my tummy is literally resting on my lap when i sit down. although, i do agree with lex, i still feel feet kicking me on my rib cage, but dh is tall, 6'2" so it may be that he's also long.
HMBAY- i don't know, you might end up going first, the way things are looking :D
LEX- hoping ella will stay put but still be a sapphire girl ;) i saw on another post that you are moving to new jersey in april? i have a friend who is originally from new jersey so i'll try to get the scoop on the best place to live for a young family.
LORIALYS- nice photos! i agree with you. there are times, especially during braxton hicks when i feel so uncomfortable that i really don't think there's anymore space for him in there. your nursery looks great by the way.
i went for a walk this morning and boy was it tiring. i used to go for miles but i literally just went around the neighborhood and i am wiped out. i have some errands to run today but dh wants me to slow down. i feel like there's still so much to do though. we're possibly picking up our travel system today or tomorrow and i'm planning on getting my diaper bag today and start putting that together. both dh's bag (full of snacks) and my hospital bags are packed and are in the car.
i can't wait to see who delivers first. speaking of, i know that some of you don't feel comfortable posting pics of your babies here once they arrive. i would love to see pics of you guys angels though. i know that other threads what they've done is post pics and tell people that they will delete the pics at the end of the day or two. maybe we can do that and not leave our baby's pics if you're not comfortable.
i can't believe we're talking about these things now! it used to be that we were talking about 1st trimester issues. how exciting!
mcl, I'll post pics in my friends-only LJ...if anyone here isn't on my friends list and wants to be, let me know. Otherwise, I won't post baby pics to a public thread.
The other option for those who are interested in sharing photos, but not posting them to the thread, is to private message pics to people (with the obvious understanding that nobody in the group would distribute them outside the group)....but you can only PM 5 people at a time. I think there are about 30 people in the group, so that'd be six messages...unless there are people who don't want to receive PMs.
Hi ladies!
Photos: I use Shutterfly and like it. I have yet to order photos from them, I usually get them locally, but anticipate ordering more once the baby arrives.
hmbay: Your post made the arrivals seem so much more real and CLOSE. :)
Dropping: I haven't noticed anything, but a woman at work did comment last week she thought I started to drop. I'm already carrying rather low anyway.
Hospital Bag: Packed ours last night and have a list of odds/ends I need to pick up. Just a reminder (I forgot until just now myself) don't forget to pack your cord blood kit or the donation information if you are signed up to do that.
DH has been working like a madman and got tons of work done at our place yesterday. What a surprise when I got home last night! :D Tonight we are meeting with our financial planner to discuss 529s and college savings. Where did the time go? :eek:
ok girls!!
no preeclampsia!! :) i'm so happy! all my lab work came back totally normal, so i'm happy about that!! they do, however, want to start doing NST just to make sure things are still going well with the baby. so after my weekly appts. i will be monitored for 30 minutes afterwards. yea. small price to pay though! i'm just glad everything is healthy!!
in other news, DH has shingles! :( poor guy, thought he had poison ivy and turns out it's shingles! he got antibiotic for it today, so hopefully in the next few days he'll be feeling better. good timing, huh?!
hope you all are having a great day! off to wash little man's clothes!
I had my dr.'s appt this morning and everything is going well. Still measuring about a week behind, but the dr. (nor any of the other dr.'s) are concerned at all. I gained 2 1/2 pounds for a total of 23 so far. I would have liked to see the weight gain under 2 lbs, but eh, what's a half a pound anyways? I have one more appt at 2 weeks, then weekly from then on. Hard to believe I'm far enough along for that already. Also, she said their general rule of thumb is that they only let their patients go a week overdue, so it looks like Nov 1st at the very latest. Oh, and also, Daytona is head down, so that was awesome news.
My next appts are for Sept 21, Sept 26, and Oct 4
Just an idea for when we start getting closer to the end of the month-Since we don't really have tickers anymore, maybe we could post at the beginning of each week who is due that week or will have an induction/c-section? What do you all think?
Wow! So many people getting so close! It's so exciting to think that it's coming to be that time already. I can't wait to see who's going to go first!
All the nurseries are looking beautiful! You guys are so creative and great decorators! :D
Photos - I really like Shutterfly. I haven't ordered from them but have liked everything else about them re: uploading, posting, etc.
Dropping - I first noticed it when we were in the nursery about to take a belly shot.....I caught a glance of my belly in the mirror and was like "holy cow!!" DH noticed it too and then people at work noticed it that next week. It was confirmed by the dtr at my next appt. There's definitely more pelvic pressure now and I can breathe more easily, eat more easily, etc. There are certain days that it seems to really help my acid reflux but there are still days when I still suffer b/c he gets his feet up good and high. I have a pretty short waist so I'm sure that makes a difference.
Hospital bag - We're *mostly* packed. I packed the diaper bag w/ a couple different outfits and receiving blankets, a couple diapers & wipes, and a few other little things. In my bag are pads, a nursing gown, robe, slippers, socks, undies, Preggie Pops, toiletries, a couple movies/magazines and an outfit to come home in. DH will put in a change of clothes, toiletries, a book, and slippers. It may be kind of a lot of stuff and the hospital may supply some but I'd rather overpack when I have no idea what I'll want and/or need.
Pediatrician - Sadly, we *just* started thinking about it this weekend b/c the instructor at our childbirth class was really pushing finding one now. I have a good friend that has my same insurance so hopefully she likes her ped and it might be a good option for us.
ETA: Amanda - yay for no pre-eclampsia! What a relief!!
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and I don't play one on tv.
Amanda, yay for no preeclampsia! Sorry to hear about the shingles, though. Have you had chicken pox before? If not, then you could get chicken pox from his shingles. Also, why would the doctor give him an antibiotic for shingles? Shingles - or Herpes Zoster - is caused by the varicella-zoster virus and antibiotics don't work on viruses. The varicella-zoster virus also causes chicken pox, which is why I asked if you've had chicken pox. The only reason he might need an antibiotic for shingles would be if he's scratching himself to the point where he's getting a bacterial infection in the wound. I'd ask the doctor about the antibiotic because overuse of antibiotics in our society is a problem...it creates antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Ask about these antiviral drugs which could help with the severity of shingles instead: acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famcyclovir.
lml--
thanks for the info! acutally i could have been mistaken. he's on that vitrax drug.... i think it's for herpes! HA! maybe that's an antiviral medication? I guess i just assumed it was antibiotic. i'm not good at that stuff. hopefully whatever they gave him will do the trick!! and yes, thankgoodness, i've had chickenpox. i would be freaking out if i hadn't.... he'd be on the couch permanently!! HA!
09-07-2005, 02:15 PM
Amanda, Valtrex sound familiar? It is the name brand of valacyclovir which *is* an antiviral drug and does treat shingles. Shingles is caused by a form of the herpes virus (so is mono, actually) which is why the same drug that can treat genital herpes can treat shingles. :)
Hi all
Just a quick drive by post as I have ten tons of paperwork to go through tonight UGH the realities of the first week of school :rolleyes:
Went to the doctor today...lets just say when the doctor says "WOW She's big for this gestational phase" you know you should start to be concerned... Of course they won't change my due date but have told me to be prepared earlier than later..He also said that my weight gain is really good considering the size of the baby..YIKES..two comments about the size and it's only 5 minutes into the consultation. :eek: He was able to figure out how she is situated in my belly and I am super excited to report that she is head down :D :D Everything came back normal from our scare this weekend and that I have to do official kick counts every night and bring them to my next visit Wed Sept 21
cartersmommy I am so happy to hear your good news
Anyway I have procrastinated long enough...take care and I will be back tomorrow to do some shout outs...
Hi everyone,
Lots going on. I've been reading along but have been swamped at work. I'm due in 4 weeks and they still don't know who's going to take my place while I'm gone. :rolleyes: Ah well, not my problem.
sdmama2be--sounds like you had a good appt. I guess you can look forward to going early.
cartersmommy--glad to hear your appt went well today and nothing to worry about :D :D :D Sorry to hear about your DH. Shingles? Sounds nasty.
amanda--you look like you've dropped. Cute belly.
Chad and Liz--good idea about weekly due date postings!!! Yay for good appt.
dropping--I feel like sometimes the baby has dropped and other times that he hasn't. DH thinks I have. There's definitely times when I'm feeling a lot of pressure "down there", yet I'm still struggling with breath shortness when doing absolutely nothing. I'm convinced our little Flipper is a tall one. I'm 5'9" (and didn't grow into my long legs until I was about 16) and DH is 6'2" so a munchkin he isn't likely to be.
pediatrician--we've already selected ours, although we did not meet with him. His office charges $75 for interviews and we decided to pass since 2 sets of friends use him as well.
hospital bag-- Here's a ridiculous MIL story: On Mon night she called and asked if I had packed my bag. I've thrown some odds and ends in and I also threw in some snacks for DH that I picked up at Target. She immediately asked if they were healthy snacks. "Um, no" I replied "If I did that, he'd probably ditch me for the nearest vending machine". She didn't seem too pleased. Then, in the next breath she asked me for the name of a local cookie company she could use to send DH some cookies for his b-day. It was all I could do to hold back from saying,"Shouldn't you send some granola or fruit instead? It probably should be something healthy". God, she's nuts.
hiccups--anyone else's babies having hiccups on a daily basis? I'm feeling them at least once a day. Poor guy.
Updated to here!
For our final month of pregnancy, is there anybody who can help with updates? I'd hate to get behind on arrival announcements. If anyone can help out, please let me know and I'll PM you the password to the account.
tons of hiccups and because she is so low (TMI warning) I feel it in my vagina and butt. It's a REALLY weird feeling! :eek:
I feel it in my vagina and butt. It's a REALLY weird feeling! You are not the only one LexyLou... this has been going on for weeks for me. :p
hiccups at least 4 times a day for 5-10 minutes. Doctor told me it's due to their digestive system not being fully developed. My mom said I was born with hiccups and they could always tell the nurse was bringing me to my mom because I would be hiccuping. I guess the kid is taking after me :D
lml I will still help with updates. Since I'm not due until later in the month. I do apologize for not being a big helper lately. :( sorry.
hiccups: Baby R gets them several times a week now. I always feel them very low, right where my pubic bone is. I always feel bad for him/her - sometimes they last 15 minutes or longer! Poor thing. :p
pediatrician: I had to list one on our hospital pre-registration form, so we figured that out about a month ago. We're going with the same family practice that DH & I use - it's 4 young doctors, and I've really liked every one that I've had to deal with.
amtaylor: You look great! Hard to believe there's only 5 weeks to go, huh?
Shutterfly: I signed up last night - thanks for all of your advice, ladies. Hopefully I'll be back soon with my first digital pics to share!
My 34 Week Appt. Update:
My back felt slightly better yesterday, so we're just going to keep an eye on it for now. I got a maternity support belt to wear, a note okaying a prenatal massage, and I can use hot compresses & up to 3000 mg of tylenol per day for relief. I really, really hope this resolves on its own. At least I can function now, which is more than I could do this past weekend!
I'm measuring two weeks behind right now, which I'm trying to not to worry about. He wasn't concerned, and said it could just be the way the baby is lying.
He did a pelvic exam to see if the baby had dropped & maybe that was causing my back problems. Baby is still high.
Blood pressure, urine, & fetal heartrate are normal. I'm up two lbs. from my 32 week appt.
My next appointment is 9/21 (36 weeks). That's the beginning of my weekly appointments! Depending on how this back pain goes, I may ask to be put on disability as early as 36 - 37 weeks. If it's a lot better, I still think that the latest I want to work is 38 weeks.
hiccups--both kids had them several times a day at the end. Actually the hiccups are supposed to help the lungs/breathing mechanisms mature. I was told part of the reason Colin probably didn't need oxygen when he was born six weeks early (the "iffy" stage where they may or may not need breathing assistance for a bit) was probably because of all the hiccups he'd had.
well I am officially losing my MP and let me say it's gross. eesh. I know not everyone obviously loses theirs from what I've read but mine is an obvious thing. I suggest those of you getting closer to your due date wear a pad or pantyliner just in case. I've also had some more cramping this morning but I'm at work. I'm not having obvious contractions and I have a drs appt at 3:45 today so I figure I might as well be here until I know for sure something is going on. If I'm not in labor by tonight (DH's request was I wait until at least tomorrow since he had friends over really late last night and he's tired today :rolleyes: ) we're going to see my SIL who was being induced this morning. She didn't find out if it's a boy or a girl (it's their 3rd and she's never found out with any of them) so it will be fun to see if I get to meet Carter or MacKenzie tonight! :)
Diane: Glad you are feeling better!!
Heather: Yeah this is so exciting!! Congratulations on making it this far, I know you doubted it alot of the time. Gotta love our DHs, his comment made me LOL.
Tons of doctor's appointments today, me included. I slept pretty well last night for the first time in ages. I think I was so zonked nothing was going to keep me awake, and only one bathroom run :cool: I'll be back later with the update.
Have a good day everyone!
mcl Thanks for the compliments on my belly and our nursery!
cartersmommy What great news!! I bet you are feeling better now that you know there's no preeclampsia. Sorry to hear about your DH's shingles.
Chad and Liz Sounds like you had a great appointment. I like your idea of posting each week a list of who's due and is scheduled to deliver.
amtaylor Beautiful belly shots! Sorry to hear about the shooting pain in your legs. Sounds like Mackenzie is on a nerve!
sdmama2be Funny about the big baby comments. Though I'm sure you didn't find it all that funny.
Surftraitor Too funny about your MIL's comments. I totally would have said that!
DianeCourt Glad to hear that your back is feeling a little bit better. I hope that it feels lots better soon!
hmbay Thanks for that info on hiccups! Sorry to hear about the gross MP. :p Hope you get some good news at your doctor's appointment today!! I also hope that you don't go into labor tonight so you get to see your new nephew or neice! How exciting.
Pediatrician We've found one and he comes very highly recommended by my doctor. She takes her kids to him and so do some of the other ladies in the office. I'm not planning to meet him before Lucas is born though.
Hiccups Umm, yeah all the time! At least two or three times a day. Hmbay I'm glad to hear that it just means he's getting really good at breathing. ;) Mine are still pretty "high" though, so I don't think he's dropped. They are usually right above my pelvis, and not in my cervix yet.
The interesting thing though, is that I get these funny little movements sometimes where my stomach just slightly goes out and in for awhile. DH was feeling it this morning, and he came to the conclusion that it must be the baby practicing breathing in there! We saw him doing it last week on our ultrasound, and his rib cage was moving in and out. So maybe when he's lying just right with his back facing out I can feel his ribs moving in and out while he's "breathing". So cool!!!
Anyways, I'm doing good. Still super uncomfortable, but what else is new? The latest annoyance is sharp shooting pain in the tender area just below my right boob. It seriously feels like a bee sting for about 3-5 seconds then goes away. Weird. I would love to see what he's doing in there to cause that!
I finished packing Lucas's bag for the hospital, and mostly packed my bag. The only things I have left are some clothes and my toiletries, our contact lists and our camera.
I worked on thankyou notes from our showers last night, but tonight I need to complete our pre-registration paperwork and our cord blood donation paperwork.
I love holiday weeks, it's almost the weekend again!! Hopefully our stroller will arrive today or tomorrow so we can finally say that we're ready for baby to come.
Oh yeah, I changed my next appointment from the 20th to the 14th of September. Didn't want to go almost three weeks between appointments!
lml I dont mind helping with updates. :)
jenjen Im glad im not the only one! lol
hmbay WOW!!! I cant believe how close you are!! Its great that you have made it this far though~
chad and liz I think your idea about posting when you are close to your due date, induction or c section is a great idea!!!
carters mommy YAY on no Preeclampsia!!!! :) :)
Hiccups Yes, I feel them low in my cervix too.. weird. I have the lovely lthigh cramp thing going on once in a while too.
Hospital bag Oops.. I need to do this!
Baby Photo's I will post a couple pics of genevieve for you guys to see~ However we decide to do it will be fine with me! :)
Hopefully I can get around to washing baby clothes!!
good morning everyone!
we went on our hospital tour last night and it was such a big group. we had about 40 couples that they ended up breaking us up into three groups. the tour was great and dh and i ended up leaving early because the last part was about registering and we already preregistered online last month.
PEDIATRICIAN- we picked ours through the local Los Angeles Parenting magazine where parents rated their pediatricians and ours was wonderful when we met her (she doesn't charge for the interview either). it also turned out that 2 other couples in our birthing class are going with her after they interviewed her so that just confirmed everythilng. dh loved her and she also has two boys.
i can't believe i slept from 11:30 - 7 am last night. i think i got up just twice to go to the bathroom. :eek: :D i am so amazed.
QOTD: do any of you get this "funny" feeling, sensation down there. i don't know how to explain it but i am getting this "stinging" sensation from time to time, especially when i'm standing for long periods or sitting for long periods. it doesn't hurt but i definitely notice it.
HMBAY--i'm thinking about you. maybe you'll have the baby sooner than expected. how wonderful is that! you get to meet your baby soon!
it sounds like a lot of us are in that NESTING phase, where we feel the need to get things done. last night, we also got our travel system, which was given to me by my college room mates. dh put it together and we just need the little one now. dh is coaching him to come out on saturday as that is dh's birthday.
have a great day everyone!
Hi everyone,
GREAT NEWS Amanda!
Ugh too tired for too many s/o I know there was something I wanted to respond to yesterday but can't remember :rolleyes:
QOTD - Anyone getting anything for your DH for when the baby gets here? I wanted to get something like a dady t-shirt or something. I was thinking MAYBE a special diaper bag for him, but I wanted something small/simple to bring to the hospital or give him right before the baby is born. any ideas?
I just got back from my appt. today. Everything is still looking good. I was able to see my actual dr. today and it was so much better than last week. He was so much nicer than the dr. I saw last week....no pain at all during the internal. He said my cervix is still pretty thick so he thinks I have at least a couple more weeks left. He also said I have a really narrow pubic bone, but he didn't think that would cause a problem. That was the first I have ever heard that. I didn't gain any weight and my dr. doesn't think I will gain much more. I can handle that. The baby's h/r was 160. I think that is the highest it has ever been. Oh, and my GBS test came back negative. So, it was a pretty good appt for me.
We have our first childbirth class tonight. I am excited to finally start our classes. I was told to bring 2 pillows and a water bottle. For those who have already taken the classes..do you know what the water bottle could be for? I am just trying to figure out how big of a water bottle I need to take.
QOTD I am planning on ordering a philadelphia eagles (DH's favorite team) outfit for the baby girl and giving it to DH in the hospital. He will love it. Other than that, I don't think I am going to get him anything else.
Had a scare this morning. Logically, I knew the baby was fine, but I started to panic anyway. What happened is that the dogs water dish is in the kitchen on a bathmat. They don't always keep the water on the bathmat, though...especially Gretchen who has a tendency to play in the water. I slipped on some spilled water and landed in the splits. I haven't done the splits since I was 12 years old. Of course, it made me late for my endocrinologist appointment because I had to collect myself and catch my breath. Plus, I had to call my OB to make sure I didn't need to come in. Within 20 minutes of calling, they called me back and said unless I have spotting or the baby isn't moving, I don't have to go in until my regular appt. tomorrow. So, I'm at work now, my pelvis hurts horribly and I really want to just lay down with a heating pad on my crotch.
The good news is that I have dropped 11 pounds since my GD diagnosis. The doctors are not worried at all about it...said it is a good thing. They also said that if I continue on the diabetic diet after the baby is born and pick up some more exercise that the weight will probably melt off. This puts my total weight gain during pregnancy at 20 pounds. Also, they said I've probably lost more fat than I realize because I'm gaining with the baby. Everyone tells me my face and shoulders look more slim, so maybe it is true. I can only hope.
QOTD I am putting a little goodie bag for DH. I've bought a Steeler's onsie and a bib that's says "I love Daddy". But we received 2 of those bibs for our shower, so I need to return it :rolleyes: My mom suggest I put a pair of goggles, ear and nose plugs as a little "fun" for when he has to change the diaper. I am not sure what else I'll do.
lml41981 - glad you are ok. Maybe you can go home early?
Tiger - that is my fav team too! (I am from philly)
Great ideas! I was thinking of ordering this T-shirt http://store.babycenter.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/49811_207296_md.jpg and getting some one or two daddy books. I think I will add a giants outfit in there!
QOTD - Red Envelope has a really cute "dad" frame that I was planning to get. We're having professional shots taken 7-10 days after she is born for announcements, Christmas cards and Christmas gifts, so I'll just put a print in the frame and let him take it to the office. :)
shushy - thanks...I'll go home early if my boss tells me to. Otherwise, I really don't want to use my benefit time. I'm just going to try not to walk much.
Ladies, I have been keeping up with you all, but just haven't been keeping up with QOTD's and replies. I'm just happy to read up and know everyone is doing great!!!
35 Weeks!!!!
I took my 35 week belly shots yesterday, but never got around to uploading them etc.
So here is the latest:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d729b3127cce93baa2bae8d100000016108AaNGzJq3ctN
It's funny to me that it's just a little off kilter.
And from the profile:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d729b3127cce93baa2a6e8cd00000016108AaNGzJq3ctN
Anybody else notice that it's all round and then at the tip of the belly it's super flat? Hmmm... that's interesting.
I still feel really good. I am sleeping well if the room is cool, otherwise Baby G keeps sweating me out!
No complaints really other than lack of energy and having difficulty bending over or getting up off of chairs,etc.
My latest Dr.s appt. was on Tuesday and everything looked great. My total weight gain is 22.5 lbs and my bp is still great. My ankles/feet have been perma-swollen for the last month though :rolleyes:
Waincoting arrived and I've been primering and painting it all. The contractor will be here early Monday morning to put it up :D That means it will be move in day (which is perfect timing since my shower is on Saturday!!).
The electrician still hasn't gotten back to me about hanging the chandelier though- I'll have to give him another buzz.
I am soooooo excited that the nursery will be done :D !
lml I am sorry for you scare..I hope the pelvis pain subsides soon so you dont have to suffer!! Yeah on loosing 11 pounds!! awesome~ I love the frame your getting for your DH.. too cute.
domesticdreamer Beautiful belly shots!! :) Yes I do see that it is flat in the tip. Glad you had a good Dr's appt and congrats on almost being done!!!
Pediatrician We are going to call this week to see if we need to go to a prenatal visit and if it costs money. We have friends who bring their children to the same place and they are very happy with them so we will probably just go with them... unless we go to a visit and the dr is a complete jerk or something~
QOTD, I know I'm getting Dan combat flight simulator time but I don't think I'll have anything to give him that's I can wrap. We'll see if I find something in the States when I go for the weekend.
lml, glad to hear about the weight loss. Maybe the GD diet will do that for me too. Here's hoping. Glad to hear you didn't hurt the baby with your acrobatics.
Tiger, glad to hear about the great appointment.
domesticdreamer, you look great!
mcl, glad to hear your hospital tour went good. We go on our next Wednesday.
Getting ready for our birth class this Saturday and my shower on Sunday. Can't wait, I hope this is going to be a good weekend.
Dan's now decided that he wants the baby born before Halloween so he can take it trick or treating. :rolleyes: Is anyone else planning on taking the baby out to friend's and family's houses dressed up?
We aren't going to take her out, probably, because I think she'll be too little, but we did buy a lobster costume at BRU and will dress her up and take pictures so we can embarrass her later on in life. ;)
domestic dreamer-Cute belly shot. I too have that little flat spot. Do you by any chance have an anterior placenta? I do, so I wonder if that's the reason it's flat for us both or if it's something else.
hmbay-How exciting!!! I can't believe you are losing your MP! It's funny you mention that not everyone loses it because my mom said she never did...I wonder if I will.
Tulip-We got her a little monkey costume because we call her our "Chango" which is monkey in Spanish but we don't plan on taking her out since she will be so little. We'll just take pictures and open the door for the other kids with her in her costume.
QOTD-Gift for Dad-I don't think I'm buying him anything that day. For Father's Day he got the Diaper Dude and earlier in the pregnancy I bought him a daddy shirt which he's going to wear to the hospital. We also just bought him two really nice suits from Macy's so he's been taken care of. :)
We'll see though. I have a hard time not shopping for him.
Back from the doctor, everything looks/sounds great! I couldn't bring myself to look at the scale this time. We actually spent more time asking him questions than the exam portion. I'm still rotating through all the doctors and this is the "head" doctor and interesting enough the most liberal in the practice. I asked about staying at home once my water breaks, and he said he actually encouraged that -- of course after 18 hours, he'd want me to go to the hospital but he said to stay home where I'm more comfortable. We also discussed our pediatrician choice. He LOVES the guy and the female in the practice, which I found really reassuring since no one does pre-natal appointments in our area. He did say there is a third doctor in the practice is less than warm and fuzzy, which I had heard before but at least I'm noticing a pattern. Of course he is competent for an ear infection (or the like), but "not someone you want to have a conversation with about starting to feed your kid solids." As long as I like two of the three doctors I think this will be a great choice for us.
Costumes: We don't get trick or treaters :( I did buy a Halloween outfit for the baby. It's an orange shirt with a pumpkin face on it, and black pants with little pumpkins for us to take photos.
Gifts for dad: I got DH a baby hand print kit that he wanted, although I already gave it to him last week when it arrived. Other than that, I don't plan on anything else. He got a manly diaper bag for Father's Day.
lml: Glad to hear the baby is ok! Pregnant or not, doing the splits like that sounds terribly painful.
Had my doctor appt yesterday. DH came along and this was the second one he has been too. My blood pressure was up (135/83) which is high for me..then I give them a urine sample. After the nurse tests it, she pops her head in the exam room and asked what I had for lunch because there was a lot of sugar in my urine. Now my first reaction was to lie and say I hadn't had anything sugary, but then I knew I had to fess up.....had a brownie and then there was a cookie, oh and then there was the pop I drank. Yikes, felt like I was in confession as the nurse and DH kept asking, "anything more?" Guess the doctor wasn't concerned about either because he didn't say anything about either. DH did ask him if it was ok for me to drink pop and he said it was....even said an occassional drink to relax is ok as well. Don't think I'll be doing that, but nice to know. Found out the doctor will be one to deliver. He gets the call day or night....they don't do a doctor on call in his practice, so that was reassuring. He even told me what two days he was going to be gone out of the office between now and mid-October, just so I knew. Since he isn't an OB, I think he maybe only delivers one or two babies a month and it was so fun hearing him talk about how exciting it is for him each time one is born, particularly to first time parents. He said he never gets over the miracle of life. Making me misty-eyed just thinking about it. Oh, and he made me feel super good, when he said he was impressed I didn't have any stretch marks. :D (Kinda amazed I don't considering I've now put on 37 pounds total. :eek: )
Hiccups - Baby gets them maybe once a day. He hasn't dropped, so they are a lot like Loralys's baby in that they are more in the pelvis and not the cervix.
lml - Sorry to hear about the splits....sounds painful.
cartersmommy - glad it isn't pre-e. I'm sure that was a huge relief to you.
Great belly shots of everyone who has posted.
jenjen0713 glad you had a great appt!
Trick or Treating nope – I got him a pumpkin costume at BRU though so he can help mommy hand out candy to the neighborhood kids…
QOTD: i am not going to be getting dh anything because he made me promise not to get him anything. he said the fact that he's having his baby boy is a big enough gift.
GODSGIFT77- cj's room looks wonderful. his closet looks like my son's closet with lots of blue outfits too. by the way, we're calling my son LJ (he's named after my husband.
lml- i'm glad that you're okay. wow, i don't even know if my body is capable of doing the splits. that's wonderful also that your GD diet is working for you.
we're also not taking the baby out for halloween. being a pediatric nurse, i've seen babies get so sick around that time of the year, which is why i am strategically putting antibacterial gels and encouraging handwashing when people come to visit and want to hold my baby boy. not to be paranoid but i've seen how hard it is for the children when they get sick, especially the precious babies with immature immune systems. we live in a condo complex with lots of young professionals so i doubt we'll get a lot of trick or treaters.
halloween: we got a really cute halloween outfit as a shower gift. It's a long sleeved onsie with a pumpkin on it and matching hat, bib, and booties. We won't take him out though, we'll just take pictures and open the door with him if we get trick or treaters. The last few years we didn't have very many, there aren't too many kids in our neighborhood.
Question: I noticed that quite a few of you ladies had ultrasounds recently. I only had two u/s and I don't think I am getting anymore. Was that just routine that you had a third (or more) u/s or were they checking for something particular?
I had a 6 week u/s and a 20 week - both routine. Then, I had a 28 week ultrasound to follow-up on the dilated ureter problem that the baby had (it resolved itself). I will most likely have another u/s next Friday to look at the size of my baby (unless she decides to do it tomorrow since I fell today, but I'm scheduled for a non-stress test tomorrow and my GBS test). One of her partners said that the most likely scenario is that I'll have a NST tomorrow, an u/s the next week, then another NST the following week and then another u/s...continuing in this pattern until I deliver. My extras are based on those two complications, though.
jenjen that is too funny about the sweets confession! I hope I dont have to confide..
godsgift Beautiful Nursery :)
Halloween Costumes We wanted to get a costume from BRU but they were all only 0-6m and looked way huge.. so we just got a onesie that has a black cat with a witch hat on it with matching bib and it's also personalized. MIL may also make a little acorn costume for her. We are not taking her out. We will stay home and hand out candy.
U/S I had one at 11wks and also one at 20 wks those were both routine, but since the baby measured large on the last ultrasound I will be getting another one probably around 36 wks.
Poor DH..he is sick :( I hope I dont get it! ew~ We went to our Parent Preview class earlier. It was interesting (but of course DH was bored) and answered some of our questions.. I dont even think I need a birth plan now, they do everything I have down on my birth plan already! :) So I will probably just forego that alltogether. The birthing rooms are huge and seem really relaxing.
jenjen--I had a similar experience a few months ago--my dr came in and said "have you had a lot of sugar today?". I had to admit to having had candy and having just slammed a mt dew on the way to the appt. :rolleyes:
halloween--don't have a costume for G2 but my mom did buy him a cute halloween bib. I'm hoping Colin's pumpkin costume from last year still fits. We don't get trick or treaters (we live a few miles out of town) and I doubt we'll go anywhere other than the IL's since they live just down the road so I'm not too concerned about costumes yet this year.
u/s--only reason I got so many was the placenta issue I had. Otherwise I would have just gotten my 20 week one (oh and the 9 week one they did when the dr couldn't find a heartbeat with her doppler)
drs appt today:
I'm dilated to between 1 and 2 and almost 100% effaced (well duh with all the crap coming out of me the last 24 hours I'd better be almost 100% effaced...) The head is down--WAY down. Even the dr goes "whoa that kid couldn't be much further down at this stage". He assured me that was a very good sign for my vbac being successful.
Answered all my questions:
--I don't need to go in any earlier just because it's a vbac or I had placenta issues--just come in when contractions are 5 minutes apart OR I'm uncomfortable (if before 5 minutes apart) or if I start bleeding (he said he didn't anticipate that but he needed to mention it anyhow) or my water breaks.
--I will have to be on an IV and continous fetal monitoring once I'm admitted BUT both are portable so I don't have to stay in bed the whole time however things like using the shower for relaxation etc will be out of course if I'm wired up to stuff but I can walk around etc which is a relief--I was afraid I was going to be stuck in bed the whole time.
--He said the epidural was something they do like to avoid if they can help it in a vbac however since they do the continuous fetal monitoring etc they would rather I have one if I'm in a lot of pain than fight the pain and possibly stall out the labor. He said it is nice if you have one and if they have to do an emergency c/s that everything is in place and they just need to turn the meds up but that it's not a big deal if it isn't and they deal with it when the time comes (if the time comes).
--scheduled me for another u/s tomorrow afternoon (which sucks haveing to take off work so early as the only time they could fit me in was 2:30). Said I really didn't need it as the placenta would NOT slide back to closer than 2 cm but that he felt it would help me be more relaxed about everything so he saw no reason why not to have one last one. Interestingly enough he didn't tell me to schedule an appt for next week.... :)
--and for the PUPPP he just told me to take tylenol pm at night so I can sleep and to take some benedryl and that neither were really going to help but they should make it tolerable.
So DH, my mom and I are thinking Saturday or Sunday. I haven't had any more regular serious contractions but I'm pretty sure I don't have more than another day or two to go. Might be wrong but I'm really not thinking so in light of the MP and G2's head being down so low.
HMBAY-- i'm so excited for you! i'm so glad that you're going to have a vbac. i know you're going to do great. so possibly this weekend, you'll have your little one. :p
i'd been having cramping on my lower abdomen tonight off and on, very irregular and it's concentrated on my lower abdomen, nothing on my back so i doubt i'm close like hmbay.
Really tired today. I tossed and turned most of the night. There was a dog over at the horse farm beside us that barked all night :mad:
I am really starting to feel "weird" down there?!!? I still have 6 weeks to go, but everyone is saying that I will be going 1-2 weeks early. I think the just jinx me and I won't be going till November!
* * * * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * *
hmbay :D It looks like you will be our first!
Halloween Costume Didn't get one... they look too big. I did pick up a sleeper with a pumpkin on it that said "my first halloween". My mom bought us a "first halloween bib". But with my luck, the baby will show up after Halloween :rolleyes: As for trick-or-treaters, we have a really long lane back to our house and no one came last year except my niece.
Just wanted to give an FYI...for anyone who either can't resist buying baby clothes or needs more, Gymboree already has their new stuff on sale for 9.99 and up to about 20. They've got some really cute stuff, especially for girls!
hmbay :D It looks like you will be our first!
as much as I didn't want to be you know I'm all for it right now. I slept like crap because I had contractions all night and some lovely loose BM's. And some bleeding. I suppose I should have called the hospital as it wasn't brown--it was red--but with all the bleeding I've had this entire pg I just ignored it as G2 is still squirming and kicking up a storm and I really didn't want to go to the hospital at 3 am just to be sent home anyhow. I'm at work right now because the contractions hadn't really gotten any stronger even though they kept waking me up at night. I'm not really sure if they're following a pattern or not but I still feel crampy and icky and really just want to go home. the bleeding has slowed to extremely extremely minimal so I'm at work until my u/s appt (or unless my contractions kick into high gear). I'm hoping I'm not at work on Monday. ;)
ETA: I forgot--my SIL had a girl yesterday! :) Haven't gone to see her yet but everyone keeps popping out boys in this family so I'm glad to see someone finally had a girl.
HMBAY-- i woke up at 5:30 this am too. take care of yourself. please let us know how things go. i'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
hmbay I can't believe you are so close! I think you are definitely going to be the first!
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting some sleep? I can't seem to fall asleep lately. I toss and turn all night. I feel like I can't breathe when I am laying down. I lay down and feel like I can't take a deep breath so then I can't stop thinking about it and I just make it worse.I have tried sleeping in the recliner, propping my head up with pillows, moving to a different bed, etc. I feel like I have tried everything and I still can't sleep. I don't know what my problem is. I know a lot of it is me doing it to myself. I get it in my head that I can't sleep so then I think I jinx myself and really can't fall asleep. I got up and went to the bathroom at 5 this morning and just started crying because I was so tired and I hadn't slept all ngiht. DH heard me and came in and tried to help me relax. It didn't work though and I was still awake when the alarm went off at 6:15. I think I only slept for 1.5 hours last night. I can't take this anymore. Is it safe to take Tylenol PM? Does that work? I have never taken any kind of sleep aids before.
In other news, we had our first childbirth class last night. We really didn't learn too much though. I was surprised to learn one thing...they said they will not attempt to deliver any babies before 36 or 37 weeks here. They will fly the mother out to the bigger city. They said this was because they don't have the means to take care of a premature baby here plus the altitude is so high. I am glad I am almost at 36 weeks now so I don't have to worry about it.
Tiger, check with your doctor first, but I think we can take Benadryl. That ought to make you pretty drowsy so you can sleep.
hmbay - good luck! hope your VBAC is successful. Question for you since I know you've had a NST...what's it like? I have one at 1 today and don't know what to expect. Great that your SIL had a girl. Funny...when we found out we were having a girl, my cousins on my dad's side of the family said, "Great! Finally a girl amongst all our boys!"
no time to read the thread since i am trying so hard to get ready for dd's birthday party tomorrow. have tons of stuff to do today, but i thought i would drop this off since it is kinda exciting :p
had my drs appt which i found out my dr already has my induction scheduled for oct 11. wow!! shocked me. she is taking kai at 38 weeks because she doesn't want to risk me going into labor on my own. i already have instructions when to stop taking my medication. and hopefully the day before the induction i am starting to dialate, and we will continue with it, if not, it will be put back 1 week.
anyways, my next appt is sept 22
lml -- NST. I've had two variations of them done. One was where they actually wanted my participation and the other they didn't. Pretty much they put this tight stretchy "belt" around your belly that covers the entire belly, slide two monitors under there. One tracks contractions I think and the other the baby. Then you just relax for 20 minutes or so and they record data. The one they wanted my participation they wanted me to push a button to indicate each time I felt the baby move--not sure why as only one time have they ever had me do that and I've had 3 NST's over my two pg's. If they see enough movement/appropriate heartrates etc over the twenty minutes they are satisfied and figure everything is fine. If they didn't tell you to--make sure to eat or drink something before so the baby "wakes" up other wise you'll be there a while. :rolleyes:
1_mommy That's a fine day to have the baby... it's DH and I's anniversary :D
Thanks hmbay! I will be eating lunch in the car on the way to my appointment, so I guess I'll have that part covered. :)
Happy anniversary c j. And happy birthday to your daughter, 1_mommy
hmbay: Good luck, what you are describing definitely sounds like early labor to me!
Hope everyone has a great weekend, I'm hoping the manager says we can leave early today. I had my worst case of cankles last night, it was awful and freaked out DH. They are a little better this morning but I've never seen them this bad -- I think I just overdid it yesterday and didn't really have a chance to elevate them last night.
Daycare update for us, and finally some good news! The center that is closest to our house called yesterday, and they now are requiring a deposit for the waitlist. Not that it is good news, but I think it will deter some people from staying on the list AND the best part -- we are now only about 20 people down the list instead of the 70 something I was when I called originally in July. Sounds fairly promising for January when we'd actually need to take the baby. This has been the biggest stress for us, so a ray of hope is progress!
Have a terrific weekend! We have our last childbirth class tomorrow :)
My doctor's appointment sucked royally! I had my NST and the frickin' nurse forgot about me. It was supposed to take 20 minutes and I sat there for an hour and a half hooked up to the stupid machine unable to reach my phone or anything else...positioned such that I couldn't even bang on a wall to get someone's attention. I called out, "Hello?" and nobody heard me. I finally kicked my shoe off and used my toes to grab my purse so I could use my cell phone to call the doctor's office and speak to someone to say, "You forgot about me." The nurse finally comes back in and doesn't acknowledge that they forgot me and doesn't apologize...just says, "I thought the other girl was going to get you out of here. I was taking care of patients." I said, "Yeah, well, I'm late for work." She said, "It's ok. You gave us plenty of info." I wanted to say, "No kidding? Did I?" As I checked out, they told me I have another NST next week and then an u/s at 37 weeks. I told the girl, "I'll do another NST, but could you please ask them not to forget about me this time?" :mad: :mad: :mad:
I was told to double my terbutaline and "rest" but not bedrest. My mom is arriving tomorrow to help out for a few days. Which is great, but I wanted her to help me, not be at my beck and call. So many things have just gone flying out the window.
Thank you ladies for answering my question on the u/s. I have a doctor's appointment Monday and I think I will have my first internal exam. The baby measured about 8 days ahead on my u/s at 18 weeks but my doctor wasn't too impressed with that. They didn't change my due date or told me that we had to monitor this any further. So I guess unless something comes up during my next appointments I will probably not have another u/s.
The warehouse finally called to set up an appointment for delivering our furniture. Unfortunately they come to our area only once a week and that would be next Thursday where neither DH nor I could be home. So DH will see if he can have them come Thursday the following week. I'm fine with that but I just hope the pieces they deliver are okay and we don't have to wait another week or two for them to re-deliver. Or at least I hope the dresser is fine. We don't need the crib right away since we'll have the baby sleep in the PnP in our room for the first few months, but I would like to have the dresser so I can finally wash all his clothes and put them away. DH thinks we are cutting it too close and junior may already be here two Thursdays from now. I really don't think so. I think he will stay put for at least another three weeks.
We are leaving for our part 1 of the all day "for couples who work" baby class in 30 minutes so I thought I would see what was going on..wow I've missed a lot!!!
hmbay: Good luck!!!!
jh124: Hoping you enjoy your baby shower. Take it easy...
lml: Sorry aboutyour crappy appointment..Ican't believe they forgot you!! I would not have been very happy either.
godsgift: Your nursery is beautiful!! CJ is going to love it.
Our glider came in yesterday, so today after class we are going to pick it up from BRU!! Of course I am sure I will find other things to buy (I'm getting really bad). Then tomorrow it's opening day at Charger Stadium...YIKES I will be there all day with DH and his friends..hey they need a Desiganted Driver ;) I am so ready to be relieved of that job...9 months is a long time to be a dd
I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend, rests and relaxes...
Take care
good morning everyone! i just came from my doctor's appointment and i am at 1 centimeter. the internal wasn't as bad but definitely uncomfortable. she said that i can definitely have this baby this week. the nurse didn't even schedule me "officially" for next week's appointment but she says if i don't have the baby before next saturday to just come. that's how much the office thinks i'm going to have the baby this week :eek: :D i don't know but we figured he'll come when he's ready to come. dh wants him to come today because it's his birthday, but i doubt that's going to happen. we're pretty much ready, ready as we can be. also my gbs came back negative- so no antibiotics needed for me.
my check list:
-pediatrician picked out
-birthing class all done
-hospital tour done
-pre registered at the hospital
-clothes are all washed and set
-crib set up and ready for baby
-carseat installed
-bags are all packed and in the car (both dh and mine)
-got diaper bags for me and dh yesterday and they're both packed (i ended
up getting the wendy bellisimo chocolate "love" bag. for those of you who
haven't gotten their diaper bags, she has a couple of new ones.
at this point, if we've forgotten anything else, it's probably not as important anymore.
the one i got is this:
http://www.wendybellissimo.com/product/diaper_bags/images/thm_love.jpg
i love it! i filled it with everything i need for my baby boy inside and MORE and it is not at all bulky. it is very pretty and feminine, which is what i wanted and i love all the labeled compartments inside. well worth the money. the only other suggestions i would have had for this bag would be:
1. feet for the bottom to avoid getting dirty
2. shoulder strap so i can hang it on my stroller.
these are the new ones:
have a great weekend and to those of you who are having their showers, i hope you have fun and are blessed with tons of love and gifts from your loved ones.
Gift for Dad We probably won’t be getting each other anything. My maternity leave is unpaid, so we really need to save all we can.
domestic dreamer I also have that flat spot. And thought I was the only one
hmbay How exciting! Sounds like either you or mcl will be the first. Crossing my fingers for a successful vbac for you! And congrats to your SIL
[/B]Halloween costume[/B] We haven’t gotten one yet. Dh says we should wait to see if she’s even here by now, but I’m having a hard time resisting! Also, they all look huge, and the doc even said we won’t be having a huge baby by any means, so I may just end up getting a cute onsie and a bib or something like that. It’s usually pretty chilly here on Halloween, so we probably won’t go out anywhere, just hand out candy.
1_mommy Have fun with your dd’s b-day party, and how exciting you already have an induction date!
ejm Good to hear your one step closer to getting the daycare that you want. Dh and I are still currently working on this so I know how stressful it is.
jh124 Sorry to hear about the BH’s. Take it easy, and I hope you fun at your shower. (and yes, you will make it that far)
lml I would be pretty mad too. Especially since she didn’t even bother to apologize to you.
dragonfly I hope your crib arrives in good shape, and in time! I know it’s a common problem with all brands for it to arrive with some parts damaged, but I would be pretty mad if it happened twice too, especially this close to the end.
sdmama2be I’m getting a little tired of the DD job too. It’s just assumed that anytime we go out with dh’s friends, that I’m the DD.
mcl I’ve been eyeing that diaper bag too! Sounds like you won’t be too much longer either. I’m so excited to start seeing the October (or September) babies arriving!
Not much going on here. Dh and his buddies are at the bar this afternoon watching the Iowa – Iowa State game so I’m just spending the afternoon relaxing and putting away the rest of Daytona’s clothes. Or at least those are my intentions. ;)
MCL-OMG!!!! I'm so excited for you!!! YIPPPEEE. BTW, I have the same L-O-V-E bag and I also have the Fleurville Slingtote. I love the L-O-V-E bag though. It's awesome how much storage and compartments it has. I too am bummed I can't hang it from the stroller though.
hmbay-I'm thinking of you too and hoping you are doing well.
I don't know if my body is super gearing up for labor ir if this is just the normal aches and pains of the last month but I have been having between 4-7 contractions a day and they aren't BH. It starts in my back and radiates to my stomach. The only weird thing is they last at least a minute so I don't know if they are true contractions.
Also getting super sharp pains in my pelvic area...yikes
Still hoping to keep Ella in another week though. :)
Hope you are all having a nice weekend.
Hope you are all ha
godsgift - Love the sports theme room. You weren't kidding when you said he had a lot of clothes! Sorry to hear about your allergies. For some reason, it seems I haven't had near the problems with allergies that I've had in the past. I'm so jealous you only have one more week of work...enjoy these last few weeks before CJ comes along.
mcl - I'm big on the antibacterial gel after hearing the horror story of premature nephew getting RSV a few years back. I've got a big bottle in the baby room now and plan to keep some in the diaper bag. How exciting for you that you might be holding your little one this time next week!!
dragonfly - I've only had two ultrasounds...one at 11 weeks to date the pregnancy and one at 26 weeks to determine the sex. The doctor said the only way I would get another one is if he thinks the baby isn't head down and they need to do an external to get him to move.
lml - I can't believe the nurse! How frustrating for you!
astara - That acorn costume sounds like it would be so cute. Hope your DH is feeling better and you don't catch what he has.
hmbay - Sounds like you are getting closer and closer. How did your u/s go yesterday?
cj - I've been feeling weird down in the who-ha area too. I'm hoping it is just our bodies getting ready.
Tiger - Sorry I can't help you with your sleep question. Sleep is a precious commodity these days to all of us it seems. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time.
1 mommy - How wonderful that you know an exact date by when your baby will be here. So exciting!
EJM - sorry about the cankles. That is absolutely no fun. That is great news about your daycare. I'm sure you are breathing a sign of relief now that the waiting list is so short.
jh124 - Hope your contractions slow down. How was your shower?
Tulip - Hope you have a great shower on Sunday and enjoyed your birth class today.
sdmama2be - How was your baby class? Have you gotten your glider yet?
LexyLou - Hope Ella stays put for you. She is probably getting ready for her big entrance into the world.
QOTD (TMI) - So, is anyone else out there still DTD with your DH? We (or rather I) am finding it increasing more and more difficult to do. Today, I had the worst pressure feeling in my cervix area. Don't know if it is related to DTD or just normal pregnancy stuff. I'm about ready to tell DH that we are doing with DTD until after the baby is here.
I had my shower this afternoon and can't get over how generous our family and friends were. My DH and Dad hung around and videotaped it. We got our pack n play, tons of clothes, toys, books, closet organizer, blankets, bathtub, diaper bag and other little things. Now, I can go buy the last few things we need like bottles, monitor and diaper pail. I'm washing up some of the baby clothes tonight. Luckily we only played two games and they weren't too bad.
Updated to Here!!!
hi ladies,
tonight was dh's birthday dinner and i was feeling a lot of irregular contractions off and on during the party. finally, on our way home, i noticed that they were getting stronger and stronger but still pretty irregular. i also just noticed before posting this that i am having lots of thick, mucousy secretions (mucous plug). i'm going to try to sleep but i also warned dh that we may have to get ready but i'm gonna do my best to stay at home as much as possible. i don't want to go to the hospital just to be sent home. i don't know if my doctor "helped" me along at the appt. today when she did the internal. i was 1 centimeter. i don't know if i am further along now. we'll see. i can still stand the pain.
mcl how exxciting!! you know when the contractions are getting bad when you have to stop what you are doing and you can't talk thru them. good luck to you! :)
today was dd's b-day party and i am so exhausted. i have been going non stop since yesterday at 8am, and my ankles hurt so bad and are so tight right now. we just got dd in bed and yes it is after midnight!
Oh my goodness MCL, this is so exciting. I guess we will be seeing baby pictures soon!
I am noticing something really strange going on with me. Usually, whether I'm pregnant or not, I only drink water. Occasionally I drink 1% milk but I drink that more as a snack, not really as a beverage. But somehow recently water does not seem to be able to quench my thirst anymore. No matter how much water I drink I still feel thirsty. And then I am craving sweet drinks like gatorade or lemonade. Once I have some of that I am not thirsty anymore. Does anyone have any idea why this could be?
