scubasam - Glad to hear that the dr is supportive of your wish to have a water birth!! You must be one fit momma-to-be if your belly isn't showing as much as mine.... everyone thinks I should be delivering like yesterday!! :rolleyes:

dragonfly_71 - great pack n play!! I registered for one, but I really don't know if anyone will buy it for us.... oh well. I hear ya on the moving... Gabe is actually "swimming" around right now..... and he has the hiccups atleast twice a day.

Hospital bag - At our hour free labour and delivery nurse said that we have to bring EVERYTHING - diapers, pads, even our own pen to write my menu, etc.. So - I guess I'll be bring a few duffle bags with me... haven't really thought too much about it yet since I don't have a lot for the baby since I've been under strict orders to not buy a thing until after our showers.

Stretchmarks - The first sign of stretchmarks were around my areolas - since my BB's grew WAY too fast at the beginning.. they have since faded a lot. The only other area is my bum cheaks... but only Dave sees where my streachmarks are/have been and they don't bug him... so they don't really don't bug me.

DH maternity leave - not too sure what he plans to do...?? He's been working a lot of extra hours (he's salary, so it's not like he's getting extra pay, which sucks!!) so I hope that all his time away from me now will pay off with him getting at least a week or two with me and his son. I'll have to ask him what he is planning...

nursing bra - haven't even looked into yet.. will have to soon!!

Shortness of breath - only if I have to walk up stairs. But not only is my breathing different while walking up stairs, but I also get a big pressure feeling around my bladder so I have to walk REALLY slow up stairs... but it's not all the time. Just wonder if it's how Gabe is positioned at that time.

QOTD Anyone else still not wanting to wake/get up from bed cause you're still tired, but you are so blimey uncomfortable (hips numb etc) that you just get up and hope that you can survive the day?

This has been me the past 2 months. I guess it's my body's way of preparing me to get up when I don't want to....

QOTD: yes! I feel this way all the time in bed. when i have to roll over, i want to cry. it is so uncomfortable! but i'm still tired so i stay in bed but then i start snoring and DH wakes me up and it starts all over again! ugh!

have a wedding today, and no idea what to wear! :( i feel like i'm outgrowing my maternity clothes, and the dress i thought i was going to wear is a little snugger than i'd like..... so i may have to start getting ready NOW for a 5pm wedding! HA!

i just came from my doctor's appointment today. everything looks great. i also turned in my maternity leave paper to my doctor as my last day of work is september 6th.

my baby boy has been moving around a lot. my ob-gyn thinks that he is head down. we will be doing an ultrasound next week. i am now going to be seeing her every week :eek: next appt. is august 27th.

my big shower is today also. it's going to be in the evening. we also got our crib last night and we'll be putting everything together after the shower tonight.

Oh boy, I have a lot of catching up to do!

Stretch marks The bottom part of my belly looks like a road map :rolleyes: I'm not too concerned about it, for some reason, it doesn't really bother me. It's more of a "darn, stretch marks, oh well" type of thing. DH doesn't mind them at all, I think my mom is more freaked out about my stretch marks then I am, but then again, she went on a single slice of bread and butter a day diet, after she had me to loose the weight!

Time off Originally, I was going to work until I had him, but now I'm thinking about stoping at the end of Sept. Since I'm due Oct 2nd, and my Dr won't let me go more then a week over due, that would give me a week at home (if this little guy wants to hang out that long) I am not going back to work until after the holidays, maybe not even back to my actual job. I might get part time some where or I might start a day care in my home. I already have a friend that is begging me to take her daughter. I would only want two more children besides the boy, so that everyone can still get decent amount of attention.

Gymboree I have no idea if there is one in this area, but honestly, I can't see myself trying to squeeze out of our budget the money to pay for it. It's going to be very tight dollar wise around our house after the boy arrives.

PNP we have one from my cousin, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles on it, but it's got the bassinet and sheets, so we're good to go! :D

cell phones you can use them in the lobby, but since DH smokes (we are working on that habit) and they don't allow it on hospital gounds at all, not even the parking ramp, I'm sure he'll be making his calls across the street :rolleyes:

Rings for those of us who can't wear them anymore, I'm more blue about that then the stretch marks! I so miss wearing my wedding rings!!!
I am wearing them on a chain around my neck, but it's just not the same...

I still can't wait to say "I told you so" when G2 arrives around or after his due date! :D

Jenjen The football hold is asome! I'm not sure if that's exactly what you would call it, but it's the best way I could describe it! My mom calls it the sleepy monkey hold! LOL!

Hospital Bag I started the baby's bag - just using the HUGE diaper bag DH registered for that his co-workers bought him. We have a newborn sleeper in it, a couple of diapers, and the cord blood donation kit. That's all we've got so far.

Nancy I checked out your site, rosie baby, I just love all the fabrics you have! If we could afford to, I'd order a mei tei from you!!! Plus, I've always heard a ton of great things about your products!

Lorialys I really do need to check out that book "Happiest Baby on the Block"! I so hope that our boy doesn't get colic!

Chad and Liz I'm excited to have our breast feeding class in a couple of weeks! DH didn't want to go either, but I talked him into it. For my DH, if I can find things on the web, that I can print out, to support my reasons, he goes along with it better if he can see it in black and white. So I printed out something from LL that said for a successful BFing relationship, the DH was very important. I also printed out what it would cost for use to do formula vs bfing - as they say, money talks! LOL! So he is going to the class with me. Plus, since my mom had breast cancer twice, and it's proven that bfing can help decress your risk, he's all on board for that too.

Shortness of breath count me in! Going up the stairs at home is a pain! I feel like an old lady who smoked a pack a day!

Diane Love the nursery, the colors are so calming!

LML your nusery is coming along great! Love the colors and the alcove area is sooo cool! I just have a small square room for the boy to sleep in! LOL!

Godsgift Love your nursery also! I like the wood floors and the curtains! Makes it feel airy and peaceful!

scubasam Sounds like your appointment went well. Way to go on the weight gain! Interesting about the somewhat painful BH, hopefully they're starting the dilating/efacing slowly! Maybe Carter has already dropped and that is why the shortness of breath suddenly got better? I hope your shower was great!

DianeCourt Your nursery looks great! The color on the walls will match the starlight bedding perfectly, I think. Having the glider in the loft will be okay, I think. As long as you don't mind spending a lot of time out there for feedings!

adoredh Sorry about your rings! Yesterday it was soooo hot here and during the middle of the day my fingers swelled a bit to where I could barely get my rings off. I hope I'll be able to wear them until delivery, because I'll be sad if I can't!
"The Happiest Baby..." book is really great. I highly recommend it, especially if you have a hunch that you might have to deal with colic. I don't know if it is hereditary or not, but my DH had it pretty bad so I'm preparing for the worst just in case.

Stretch Marks Just as soon as I posted about only having a few on my hips, I noticed while getting into the shower that I have a TON on my butt and upper thighs. :( It made me sad. I know they'll fade, and I'll have to work on toning that area after the baby comes, but it still made me sad. I felt very fat and ugly yesterday because of it. :(

Shortness of Breath Only during BH contractions, and when I first lay down. I don't usually walk up the stairs unless I have to anymore, but that sometimes puts me out of breath for a few moments.

Just having a lazy weekend. It is so hot outside, that we can't go do anything!!! I need air conditioning! I've been watching our registry like a hawk, hoping that lots of stuff would be coming off this weekend since our showers are next weekend. But so far nothing else has been bought. :( Maybe it's just taking awhile to update or we have invited some serious procrastinators.

Lorialys - Thanks for the compliments. :) I'm not sure if we'll do ribbon or not...I was thinking of just having floating letters by attaching a wooden block or something to the back of each letter and attaching that to the wall. That way it gets some depth, as well. We'll see!

About your registry and shower...don't worry yet. Remember, most people don't buy gifts for showers until either the day before or the day of the shower. People will start buying stuff!

This is a lazy weekend for us, too. DH had to get drug tested for his new job yesterday and we walked half a mile with our dogs (in this heat it felt like 5 miles!)...but aside from that, we were pretty darn lazy. We did go out last night to see The Artistocrats...holy moly...dirty!!! I had never heard the joke before, but the previews and ads saying it is a documentary film about the dirtiest joke ever told...well, it was definitely the dirtiest joke *I* have ever heard.

Today we're going to Gymboree to look for a coming home outfit. We're going to buy two outfits...one Newborn size and one 0-3 month because we really don't know what size she'll be.

I am SO behind on s/o I will have to hold off on that for now, sorry.

I am going NUTS anyone else just totally UNABLE TO SLEEP AT ALL for more than 2 -3 hrs? My back & hips hurt when I sleep and I so badly want to sleep on my back then my tummy hurts, I have to pee every couple hrs and that forces me to get up and moving is SO much harder these days. I am not complaining, I am HAPPY to do this for the joy of being a mommy, just get whiney and sad because of lack of sleep. any suggestions? :(

DH and I are off to look at furniture for our bedroom, maybe see a movie and pick out a crib (IF I can bring myself to finally get one :rolleyes: )

We are on the countdown 5-7 weeks till FULL TERM :eek: this went by so fast.

I am starting to pack our bags. Our hospital suggests one for the delivery room and one for after. because the labor room is really small.

Lorialys Don't let those nasty stretch marks get you down! I think one of the reasons it doesn't bother me so much, is because I can't really see them unless I look in the mirror. So I just don't look that much! LOL! ;) DH and I are also having a lazy weekend, in fact I just woke up from a 2 1/2 hour nap! I feel so good right now! Good enough to go lay outside in the sunshine (gotta love that energy boost!) Actually, my next goal today is to clean out the basement. I have my sewing machine and tons of scrap material hanging out all over the place! Amazing that DH hasn't blown a top about it! :D

Coming home outfit My mom wants to pick one out for The Boy. She really wanted to do that, since she couldn't pick a going home outfit for my sister or I. They didn't have enough money and had to take a lot of hand me down clothes. I don't mind, it makes my mom happy, and I don't have to buy it! LOL!!!

Sleeping I also only sleep 2-3 and maybe 4 hours at a time. Believe it or not, and this is so sad, the best sleep I get is when I have the bed to myself! Then I don't have to worry about kicking my poor DH when I try to roll over! LOL! We haven't slept a whole night apart yet, but last night he slept out in the living room until 2am when I came to wake him up. I had deep sleep from 10pm until 2am and it felt great! I think I might try sleeping on the couch if I get desprate, for some reason, I can turn over easier on the couch too.

I just had all my shout outs typed out and then my laptop did something and it's all gone... sorry, I just really don't feel like re-typing it all again.. :mad: :o :(

Anyway - I got into a breastfeeding class for tomorrow 6:30-9:30. Then I also signed me and Dave up for a childbirth class Sept 9 (6:30-9:00) and Sept 10 (9am-5pm). I was hoping to not have to take a class since they aren't cheap, but after seeing a child birth video the other week, I'm not sure I can do all this "blinded", plus I want Dave to feel confident when the time comes, cause I'll need him to be calm and helpful. Also, he's very protective and sensitive when it comes to me (as I am sure all your DH's are). If I were to physically get sick, he'd be sick right beside me... it's happened before, on numerous occasions. I just want him to be prepared as much as I am.

Hope all your weekends were great - cannot wait for the heat and humidity to go away... what a year to be pregnant - the hottest summer in years!! Great timing eh?

its so great that so many of you are taking breastfeeding classes, especially with your husbands. we went to a class before stella was born and it was great to have dh totally on board once i was actually "in the trenches". he remembered things from class and offered support and was able to help in ways that wouldnt have been possible had he not attended with me.

i also highly recommend that all of you who are interested in breastfeeding start reading the breastfeeding support thread in the parenting forum. the classes we take are awesome, but there is so much you dont learn in class, like what it *really* feels like when your child is going through a growth spurt and you are nursing 'round the clock, what is "normal" and what isnt, etc. reading that thread before stella was born and for the first few months after her birth definitely kept me breastfeeding. it was great to hear from experienced moms, and to get encouragement and reassurance that it was all a passing phase and my child would NOT be attached to my boob forever and i would NOT be glued to the glider for the rest of my life, and that i WOULD be able to leave the house once again. it can be so difficult and overwhelming at first, and there is no substitute for the support you can get from mamas who have been there so recently.

i know my mom thought breastfeeding class and la leche league were ridiculous, because "you just put the kid on your breast, cavewomen did it, how hard can it be??" it is amazing how time erases the memory of the first months with a baby. if i had only had my mom to listen to i would have thought there was something wrong with stella (not just about breastfeeding, babies are also apparently supposed to sleep through the night from 6 weeks, eat everything you offer them, go to bed without assistance from birth, take regular naps, and understand and listen to the word "no" starting at about 12 months. :rolleyes: ) so it was great to have other people to turn to for help and support. ok, enough preaching from me... ;)

Well, we're home from the mall...we went to Gymboree and The Children's Place and didn't really find anything I loved that came in the sizes I wanted. The clothes I wanted all started at 3-6 months. The sales girl at Gymboree kept trying to get me to buy that size by telling me, "Lots of parents buy the bigger size because the baby will grow into it." I told her, "I don't care about growing room. We're having professional pictures taken within 10 days of her birth and I want her clothes to fit right for the pictures." Even after explaining why I wanted a smaller size, she kept trying to push the bigger size on me. Finally I looked at her and said, "Here is what I want: I want either newborn or 0-3 month. I want a skirt or cute jumper and a onesie. I don't want a bunch of pastel pink. If you don't have those three things in one outfit, then we'll go somewhere else." She directed me to sleepers. :rolleyes:

I realize I got a pastel pink shirt, but with the khaki, it isn't overwhelmingly pink for me. Plus, I loved the dog on the pocket! They had a white one, but it was kinda boring with khaki.

Alicia So sorry to hear you lost all those s/o's! I've had that happen before and it's not fun! Glad you chose to go to the classes, they really are helpful. DH and I have been going to a 4 class series that's been very helpful to DH, which in turn, is a huge help to me. He learned how to give massage last week, and boy did I love that! Plus he's getting prepaired for what he'll need to do to help our child enter this world. It's giving me more confidence in him, as my partner in this, that I may not even need to call my mom. She was going to be there to help, since DH wasn't too sure that he could do it, but now I'm thinking we'll play it by ear. I really like the idea of just DH and I being the first to meet our son. Guess we'll see how we do when we get there (BTW - as of today, that would be 6 more weeks for me! LOL!)

Nancy Thanks for all the insight on bfing - I have been lurking in the support thread, and even asked a couple of questions back on WC. There's a lot of information out there, which is why I wanted to take this class with DH. Crossing my fingers that over all, it goes smoothly!

LML Very cute outfit! Is that her going home outfit, or just for her pictures, or both? Are you going to get those super cute tights too? That's one thing I'm going to miss about having a boy, all those cute girly outfits! Not that the boys don't have cute things too, but I'll miss out on the tights and the pig tails, instead I'll be doing boy stuff - and according to my hubby, that means hunting, golfing, and race cars. Sigh - guess I'll depend on my sister for the mud masks and nail painting! :D

lml: cute outfit!

adoredh: I love the baby papasan, it looks soo cozy. I wish I could get that one. Unfortunately here in Floriday it would be too hot for our boy. Even in the winter it is usually still really warm so I had to pick the bouncer, the stroller, the carseat etc that would be the most comfortable in hot weather.

Thanks on the comments on the PnP. I still didn't get a chance to take it out of the box but the baby's room did get painted. It looks really nice but different from what I thought. So I decided to change the bedding I registered for. I had registered for "Believing in Dreams" by Eddie Bauer but I don't think that is really going to work too well with the way the room looks now. And besides I also just read in all the literature that we got at child birth class that using a bumper really isn't recommended anymore. So I was thinking that if I don't use either the quilt or the bumper then I would in essence spend 170 bucks for a sheet and a bed skirt. So I took the bedding set off my registry. I found two great bedding sets at target that would match great and also don't come in a set so that I can buy just the bed skirt and the sheets.

In other news I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to buy anymore maternity clothes but unfortunately my belly has exploded over the last few weeks and hardly anything fits me anymore. I have my second shower next saturday and absolutely nothin to wear. So yesterday I went to look for an outfit. I wasn't up to driving very far and around our house the only places that sell maternity clothes are target, k-mart and walmart. I did find a top at k-mart that I thought might work with a skirt that still fits me. I wasn't thrilled with it but I was desperate. So today DH said he needed to ride into town to check his PO box and if I was up for a ride. I was like yeah sure why not and went with him. Then once we got there DH said he actually really wanted to take me to the mall so that I could get a real outfit at motherhood. I was so excited. DH ended up buying me a dress for the shower and another outfit so that I would have a choice. I love this man!
He also wanted to buy me one of those nursing PJ's to take to the hospital but I don't think those would work for me. It looked pretty complicated and I think just breast feeding alone will be a challenge. I don't want to have to fight a nursing shirt on top of that.

Thanks! The outfit is for both going home and for pictures. I didn't get tights to wear with it because it will still be warm in October here and I didn't want to have her too hot with tights. Plus, the skirt has bloomers underneath and they don't snap, so it will be enough of a pain to change her diaper without adding tights into the mix.

My coworkers who have boys say that after their first boy was born, they hoped for boys for their others...something about having a little boy mesmerized all of them and made them willing to give up the girlie stuff. I'm sure you'll do just fine. ;)

dragonfly-- we have the believing in dreams bedding and i love it! but i know what you mean about the "wasting" of part of the set. i love the bed skirts you posted! are those from target? i think i remember seeing them there! very fun colors and adorable!!

i think alisha posted this last night..... but we're having the same issue..... because of my snoring, dh has been getting out of our bed at like 330am and goign to the couch :( i feel horrible, but there's not much to do about it! i have tried everything! breathe right strips, propping up, etc. i hope he's getting enough sleep! i feel like we're practicing for this baby to come with all the awake time we have in the middle of the night! HA!

I didn't realize that some of you had posted about the lack of sleep thing also. I was so cranky and tired and just in general feeling yucky that I just had to complain.

cartersmommy luckily I don't have the snoring problem, I would be in such competition wiht my DH there is no way he would hear me over his OWN snoring :rolleyes:

lml41981 I love that outfit. THe one thing I do miss by not knowing if its a boy or girl is being able to shope for clothes and stuff. I have some cute YELLOW stuff. but I am thinking of getting a boy & girl going home outfit for each!

Then when the baby starts moving is when they say its bad right :confused: ? My clothes aren't fitting either. I have 2 comfy pairs of pants left, and all the rest are too tight. None of my tops are long enough anymore - WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT?

alicia-beesha nothing worse than losing a s/o post UGH. I know what ya mean about feeling prepared. that is why we went with bradleys. I don't know if I will end up going all natural or not, but I felt like I wanted something for DH and I to be prepared for. Not just to go into the hospital with out knowing my choices and options.

I would do more s/o since I have time 5am here! but thats it on the posts they show.

I am officially in my 33Week and felt VERY overwhelmed yesterday in our bradleys class. We watched another birth video and this lady was super tiny and skinny and pushed and pushed and pushed her little baby out. I am afraid because I feel so over wieght, I haven't worked out in a while that I am just going to be a big fat beached whale and be able to do anything.

I even got a little teary eyed in class lastnight and asked the other girl that is due a day or two before me how she was feeling and she looked at me with terror and fear and said YEAH she was freaked out too. I know I can do this, but still the idea freaks me out.

OH and has anyone heard of the EPI-NO? It is to help stretch the periniam. Just wondering. this is what it looks like. I am really afraid of tearing, so I am thinking of getting this. anyone else tried it or heard of it?

Hi all
We have a crib, and it's put together!!! :D We have already had to kick the cat out twice :rolleyes: but I think he is learning that the high, surrounded by 4 walls and a bumper, cozy place is NOT for him to sleep in..I will post pics as soon as some other furniture is put together.

clothes not fitting Oh yeah...especially my shirts, I am flashing belly or adorable blue waist band these days. I wore my jeans last night for the first time in a month and OMG they used to be baggy in the butt and I laughed at them,, now they aren't so baggy :eek: I just hope my body goes back

snoring I guess it has been geting worse. DH told me this morning that I was "snoring logs" lsat night. I'm feel so bad..

sleeping I think I wake up every 3-4 hours to turn over..it is such a production. I just have to tkeep thinking that I am getting practice..plus Kaelyn is her most active right when I go to bed..it feels like she is burrowing into some part of my belly..it is so funny to watch.

sleeping--yep sleeping like crap. My parents were up this weekend and I had the perfect opportunity to sleep in as they got up with Colin but there is only so long I can stay in bed before my hips and lower back hurt so bad I can't stand it any longer. Sucks because I could have caught up on some much needed sleep.

clothes--oh lord yes. I had Colin at this point last time plus I was smaller with him so I didn't really experience this last time. I had to keep yanking on my shorts yesterday because they felt too tight and my shirt today looks too short really and I don't have anything much longer than it is length-wise. I would go buy some new stuff but I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to need it. I suppose if I'd find some really deep discount clearance stuff I'd pick up a few things but I think I"m just going to try to make due for a few more weeks. I do have two dresses I think I'll start wearing more as they are a bit more forgiving for stretch and shortness.

sleeping - Not sleeping well..haven't been sleeping well for a couple months now. Between reflux, getting up to pee, DH sleeping too close and making me hot and the dog rolling around...there's just not much sleep to be had.

clothes - They were starting to fit tight, but then I lost weight due to having to cut carbs. My doctor actually congratulated me on losing some weight on Friday (cause I've just lost cushion...nothing that would harm the baby). Now, I'm finding that except when pants are fresh out of the dryer, they are a bit too baggy again.

sdmama2be - You know they make nets that you can put over the crib in order to keep the cat out. I saw on the other website that someone else had installed a screen door on the nursery in order to keep the pets out but enable Mom and Dad to hear Baby.

shushyk - I had commented to DH that if we had not known what we were having, I'd have bought two outfits, too. I haven't heard of the Epi-No device...it looks kinda...strange though. Are you doing kegel exercises? Also, perineal massage will help tremendously. You ought to do up to about 150 kegels a day (don't start at 150 if you're not doing them now...start at about 20-25 per day and work up). You can do super-kegels, too, which count for two kegels...that's where you clench and hold for 5 seconds. Then elevators count for 5 kegels. We haven't done perineal massage, but the doctor or nurses might do it during labor if you request it.

adoredh - I have the Baby Papasan, too. I put it together the other night and I think it will be great! I need to get batteries for it so I can turn it on and get the dogs used to the noise. Same with the swing...I need to get them used to the noise and the motion it makes.

We've got Bradley tonight, which means it will be a loooong night. Basically, I get to go home, wash and cut some veggies for a veggie platter and then I won't get home again until around 10:15ish. We're learning some new positions tonight, so it ought to be interesting. Can't believe I'm almost 33 weeks. October is really coming up on us fast!

We ought to get our crib in this week. They said it was being shipped last Friday and that it'd be here no later than 8/29 but most likely before then. My dad is in town all this week, so if it arrives while he's here, I may recruit him to help DH put it together.

sleep i can stay up alot later now. i used to be in bed 8pm and out. now i can stay up til like 10. then i am up every 2 hrs to pea. i finally fall asleep really well about 6ish, and then dd wakes up around 7:30. so i am not getting much sleep. i try to take a nap when she does at 1pm. that helps a little.

clothes i just made the comment to dh last night that this did NOT happen with dd. i am outgrowing my clothes. like some of the others, i am walking about with the bueatiful blue band showing. and my shorts are starting to get a little snug. sometimes when i walk by a mirror in a store, i have to take a double take cuz i really do not recognize this body. :rolleyes: with dd my body went back to it pre preg shape pretty easily, hopefully this time it will go down fast too. my hips never did go back to being the same though.

Shortness of Breath Yes~ I get it a lot.. I have it right now and im just sitting here. I feel like I just ran up and down the stairs 10 times. :( not fun.

Sleeplessness Once I fall asleep at night I usually dont have a problem staying asleep. I only wake up to try to roll out of bed to use the bathroom. But I do wake up in the morning with the awful numb sides :( that is horrible. what I really hate is getting into bed at night and remembering I have to set my pillows up after I am in it, then I have to try to manuever everything around without getting out of bed, and I get frustrated and make DH do it. I usually feel tired all day long even if i do get enough sleep. :(

Clothes not fitting I've just noticed the last shirts I've bought are getting to short.. lovely. I only have a couple I keep in rotation and I think my pants are not too far from becoming a little on the small side too. So last night I broke down and ordered my first pair of maternity pants from motherhood. I will probably just buy a bunch of maternity tops from there too.. I was so trying to just wear normal clothes this entire pregnancy but it looks like i've been beat!

Coming Home Outfit We are bringing a preemie outfit that we bought at BRU just in case she is small and a NB outfit we got from target. I cant stop buying clothes!!! I cant help myself, I already bought her a capelet for next fall (hopefully it fits her for the fall!) from babygap. I have got to stop!

Saturday was a rainy day so DH and I went to the movies and saw 40 year old virgin.. that was a really funny movie. I couldnt stop laughing~ I really thought it would just be one of those dumb movies, but i was pleasantly surprised. We just came home and were lazy the rest of the night..

Sunday we went to the mall of NH, DH got a tshirt.. we looked for the capelet at babygap but they didnt have it in the store, so I bought it offline that night. We did, however, go to build a bear and built genevieve a really cute, really soft dark brown bear. We put the brahams lullaby chip in his paw. We made him naked without clothes.. its the cutest thing ever! :) We came home and bought a 23 set of walt disney DVD's from ebay (DH's idea) and also my mom had won an auction on ebay for Genevieve for 52 Dr. Seuss books!! she got such an awesome deal!! I cant wait to get them! :) thats about it.. I hope everyone had a great weekend!! :)

I am finally getting a chance to make it in here. Work has been so busy lately. I am hoping it slows down by the end of this week.

sleeping It's hit or miss for me. Some nights I sleep so good and others, I toss and turn all night. It is pretty typical for me to get up 2-3 times a night to go pee though.

coming home outfit I still haven't found anything I really like. I am planning on taking a newborn size and a 0-3 month size along to the hospital since we don't know how big she will be.

Question How is everyone organizing clothes? DH and I started organizing things in the nursery this weekend. I couldn't decide if I wanted to fold most of the clothes or hang them up. So far, we mostly have sleepers so I folded them for now but I think it might be easier to see everything if it was all hung up. What are you doing?

On the same line....how many clothes for 0-3 months are you going to have? I made a list of what we have so far and it really doesn't seem like much but I am hesitent to go out and buy a lot of clothes that she may grow out of right away.

Happy Monday all!

I'm super far behind on s/o's, I'll try to catch up later in the week.

We had our first childbirth class on Saturday, it was 4 hours long. Very interesting and informative -- it's a natural class that is focused on information rather than a specific technique. DH has a whole new respect for the birthing process after watching a few of the videos, and now clearly understands why we will be exhausted after delivery is over and perhaps his mother's constant nagging would get annoying ;) One of the partners kept falling asleep during the class, made me glad DH was so interested in paying attention. I felt bad for his wife! I'm looking forward to the next three weeks of class.

We meet with our doula tonight to begin discussing the birth plan. She in her infinite wisdom suggested waiting until after we began the classes, and boy is she smart -- I have a few tweaked ideas even after one session.

We got a lot of organization done in the nursery over the weekend, that felt good but still have a long way to go. I also shopped a little and am slowly ticking things off my supplies list. Oh, I priced shopped diapers this weekend and to my surprise Pampers Swaddlers in the newborn size are cheaper at our grocery store than at Target :confused:

Sleeping: I'm having VERY vivid dreams, even more so than normal which wake me up 2-3 times during the night. I often wake up with my hands/arms asleep too, weird. Rolling over is a major chore!

Baby Clothes: I don't have much yet. The only thing hanging are one piece outfits (not including pjs). Everything else is going in the dresser. I think we'll just buy 0-3 month as we go. I'm getting tons of hand me downs so I don't want to over buy before I see the boxes I am getting. It also depends on what size Bean is when he/she comes out. Returning is such a pain, so I've adopted a wait and see method unless I see an outfit on clearance.

Someone posted about the cat in the crib My sister lined the crib with double sided tape (or tape of some sort) and it kept the cats out; they hated it!! Now they have no desire to be in there.

EJM--I had a great book for my first son but I see BRU doesn't have it anylonger and I can't find it online. It was a "firsts" book but it was in a loose leaf-binder type format which allowed you to add scrapbook pages to it (which I never did for lack of time but I Liked that I can add to the book if I want to). I would like to find something similar for this child too so if I do find something like that I'll let you know.

Tiger Yes~ I am still in normal clothes. I just bought a size bigger in regular clothes rather than buying maternity clothes. but thats not going to work anymore! :) I am putting all sleepers, onesies, shoes type things in the dresser for now and using a shower rod we installed under our shelves to use as a hanging closet for more outfit type stuff. As for how many 0-3 months clothes we have.. we have so many that I cant even buy in that size anymore! i like clothes just a little too much..

EJM Glad to hear the classes went well and were informative! your doula sounds awesome~

ScrapBooking I have a family one for our new little family, but I am also making genevieve one just for her. There's a really cute one at Border's (were I bought our 'family' one) that I think Im going to get.. it also doesnt seem to be a pain to take apart and put together. You can put a picture in the front cover and a caption as well.
Michaels also has a lot of scrapbooks & supplies to choose from, though they are a bit pricey.

Happy Monday everyone! (I can't believe it's Monday again.....)

I'll BBL for SO's but wanted to drop off some pics from our coed shower/bbq on Saturday. People were so sweet & generous - it was really overwhelming how many people showed up and all the goodies they gave us. You just never think that people are going to spend money on you and they always surprise you. One thing that was nice was that we didn't receive a ton of clothing (we have sooo much already) and what we did get was 3mo-18mo. Only one outfit that was 0-3! People listened to our heed for practical things. After everyone left we just stood there in amazement of what was sitting in our dining room. And I still have 2 showers to go still!!! More than anything, it was so wonderful having all of our friends & family with us on a beautiful day - it was difficult to get to talk to everyone (kind of like a wedding reception!) but everyone said they had fun and the kids especially had a blast.

clothes to come home in/hospital bag--just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. Try to pack something without a tummy panel in the front--either baggy non-maternity stuff or maternity stuff that just stretched all over like leggings etc. Reason I say this is after my c/s I could not wear anything with the panel--the bottom seam where the elastic hit the rest of the material seemed to hit right where my incision was. Hopefully no one will end up with a "surprise" c/s but if you do you might have the same problem with clothes rubbing on the incision so I thought I'd suggest packing something that should work with either type of delivery.

Where did the weekend go??

Saturday, DH and FIL put new windows in the baby's room. I spent all day cuttin/cooking tomatoes and making my homemade sauce. I have another batch to start tonight. That's what you get for planting 36 tomato plants!! :o

Sunday, DH and FIL went to Pittsburgh for FIL's family reunion. I decided to stay home, because the drive was 3 hours and the weather was just too hot! My mom came over and we cleaned the bathroom, washed floors, swept the house (even around the baseboards :eek: ) and steam vac the living room carpet. I ended up taking a 2 hours nap in the afternoon. :p

I now notice I waddle! I think it's do to my hips not feeling that great... sciatic nerve.

Finally some relief in the weather this week. NO humidity and today's suppose to be the hottest (high of 83). WOO-HOO.

hmbay Thanks for the tip. My mom and I were talking about that this past weekend. I had abdomen surgery 2 years ago, and have a c-section scar. I remember how uncomfortable it was wearing anything over the incision (even underwear).

clothes to add to hospital bag Add "granny" undies too hmbay's suggestion. I had a previous abdomen surgery and have a c-section scar... and remembered bikini or low cut underwear rubbed the incision.

mcl, first, you'll never be able to fit all those images into one message. The most you can do in one message is 6, I believe.

Secondly, click on the links that you posted. It will open in a new window. Right click on the pictures and select "Properties." Where it says "Address (URL), highlight the entire URL and copy. Then, on CC, in the full reply box that has the smilies and all the text editing options, click on the little icon that looks like a mountain with a sun on a yellow background that is in the reply box (don't do quick reply that is under the thread...actually hit reply). Then, paste that url into the box and hit ok or enter or whatever it says.

No time for wkend recaps, but wanted to jump in with my experience this wkend. I met the biggest pregnant beeyotch ever! :mad: The girl had serious issues!! First, someone asked her if she knew what she was having. You know, a normal, sincere thing to ask. Her reply was "A BABY" in the most obnoxious, snotty tone you've ever heard. She said this within a group of people and everyone seemed taken aback. She then went on to say that they know the sex, but are not sharing. Fine. No biggie, but due you have to be so f-ing rude about it?

Then, someone was brave enough to ask her when she was due. She said "December", to which someone asked "December what?". She replied "some day in December"--again with the rude tone and rage in her eyes. WTF? To that, I turned to the guy next to me and said "that was weird". Everyone just looked at eachother wondering WTF was up with her. It was like she felt so high and mighty to withhold this information from complete strangers--like we really give a crap. I seriously wanted to punch her in the face. DH thought a prego cat fight at a wedding would be pretty sexy. :D I was just happy to see that she was due 2 months after me and was HUGE. Eat up, grumpy.

Well I TRIED, I tried SO HARD to figure out what crib to get ugh. I feel like I can't made a decision to save my life these days. I am normally a very strong assertive, know what I want kinda gal. I can't seem to do anything right now :eek: I THINK I am going INSANE

Ok off to stare at the 6 cribs I have it narrowed down to. Oh and to top it off a tire on DH's car is down, so we need to fix that, so he took my car. The other car is at MILs so she is picking me up in a few so I can call AAA - I am so tired :o

Thanks for all the compliments on our nursery! Yesterday, DH's aunt came by with the swing that matches the PNP! She said she wanted to buy the kid the diaper genie thing too but that TRU didnt have it in stock. I was shocked b/c she already gave the baby $$! WOW!

Gosh - i am exhausted - i sleep through the night with only minor interruptions to pee but its not quality sleep - that and work is majorly stressful right now. Today i wanted to quit on the spot... i keep telling myself 4 more weeks and i get to stay home! *sigh*

Clothes not fitting I was actually thinking this about a week ago, but wasn't going to post anything, afraid I was the only one outgrowing my maternity clothes :o Not that I don't feel huge already, but when maternity clothes don't fit you any longer, it just makes you feel giganto.

That's all the SO's I have time for now. I have to cut dh's hair and clean up the dinner dishes :rolleyes:

We ran to target tonight for groceries, and I picked up some rubbing alcohol and cotton balls for the umbillical cord and explained to dh what it was for. His response was "Glad you can take care of that." I told him that it really isn't that bad and usually doesn't even bleed except for a drop or two occasionally, and that it needs to be done everytime she gets a diaper change. And I definately know I won't be the only changing diapers, so he might as well get used to. Just waiting to see his reaction to the birth video we watch in our childbirth classes. :rolleyes:

Forgot to mention that they have the empathy bellies for the dh's to wear at our childbirth class. Still trying to talk dh into it long enough to take a photo, but not having much luck. Will definately post a photo though, if i can get him to do it!

so tonight was our final birth class and tour of the labor and mother baby unit. can i just say.... OVERWHELMING. we saw a BRAND NEW baby being rolled from delivery to the nursery for it's bath, and the nurse was just laughing because we all saw him before the entire family had! HA! it was amazing but at the same time i walked into the delivery room and wanted to cry kinda. does that make any sense? i just thought "HOLY S*IT, we can't be doing this in a month!"
it'll be wonderful, just a little overwhelmed at the moment!!!

cartersmommy: I still love the believing in dreams bedding. I saw it on display at BRU and it looked so great. It has that rugged appearance that I was actually going for in the nursery. However, the wall paint I picked doesn't really support the "rugged" idea. I should have either picked the olive green or the buttercookie color that is in the bedding. Instead I did a robin egg blue, which turned out very nice but different from what I thought. The two bed skirts are from Target. I found them online, I haven't seen the real thing yet. And I hear you on getting teary eyed in the maternity ward. I felt like that too when we toured the birthing center. And I can't believe we will be there so soon!

Shushyk: Well this is what I read about bumpers not being safe. Apparently even very small infants are able to scoot themselves into a corner of the crib and could possibly get trapped under the bumper and then re-breath air. Probably not a big chance of that happening but I am very paranoid about crib death. When I was an AuPair the host family of one of my friends lost their baby to crib death and ever since then this is something I am really afraid of.

Forgot to mention yesterday that I held a 1 week old on Friday. He was so precious and to my surprise I wasn't nervous at all.

Cut and cooked another 1/2 bushel of tomatoes last night and cooked a nice dinner. I am exhausted! Didn't sleep well either. :o

We didn't finish ours, but I got choked up at the class. I cried a little thinking HOW in the world am I going to do this??? The instructor said that is a sign that labor is nearing and to embrace the anticipation.

c j I don't have too much dizzyness, but it comes and goes quickly. I find myself all of the sudden needing to take really big deep breathe because I feel icky like I am going to pass out. Are you laying down during that time? Usually I am and find if I change positions it helps.

dragonfly_71 I understand, a lady I baby sat for lost TWO to sids. At the time they didn't have a name for it, but it was very sad. I think its because she smoked too. I bought that special monitor that has an alarm that will sound if the baby doesn't breath or goes off the monitor. so I think for me, I will feel OK with the bumper in there at least for a month or two. I also have been thinking about using the bumper as a decorative piece on a toybox for under the window. But I am SO not that good at projects. I was thinking like a pillow seat or something... but first I have to PICK OUT MY CRIB :eek:

Chad and Liz I would love to see DH get to wear one of those bellys!!! I don't think they have them in our classes. Ya know I was worse than DH during the video. We have seen 2 or 3 now and each one I get more nervous. I just can't believe that our bodies stretch SO MUCH in that area.

sdmama2be Thanks, I am sure what ever I pick will be fine. I think I was really bad yesterday because I had not gotten any sleep for so long. I feel A LITTLE refreshed today but not sure how long that will last!

LML I think you posted about doing kegels, i can't find that post. Anyway, YES I am doing them religiously, but I thought the epi-no would be additional insurance. Thanks for the info though :)

Lorene--happy birthday!!!! You remind me--I need to get dentist appts made for me and DH. I'm going to schedule them during maternity leave I think.

sleep--interestingly enough I'm not getting enough but the last two nights I've woke up reasonably rested and my back isn't hurting as much. The spotting has gotten less again too. I suppose the spotting and back pain are probably related as I do feel a tiny bit crampy when I'm spotting.

my next drs appt is this afternoon. I know he's pro ERC vs pro vbac so I'm going to use him to get all his reasons for an ERC so I have pros and cons to weigh. I suppose I should ask him about the pelvic rest too since the dr at the hospital said "well as long as you're still spotting..." but as of yesterday I'm more or less not. Not that I have any freaking interest in sex when I feel like a fat cow but it would make DH a happy happy man if he got to have sex again before the baby was born.

cartersmommy: As far as keeping an eye on your baby's movement, our hospital told us that you should call you Dr. if you don't feel any movement for 12 hours. The Dr. may then recommend that you go to the hospital for montoring and/or ultrasound.

Chad & Liz: I was going to add alcohol to my shopping list for cord care, too, but we learned something interesting in our last childbirth class last night - our hospital is phasing out of using alcohol to help the cord stump heal! Apparently they have extensive research that shows the stump heals equally well without applying alcohol on a regular basis. So they will be sending us home telling us NOT to use it! I think it's interesting how each hospital's practices are a little different.

godsgift: Beautiful photos! They look like they were taken by a professional!

We had our final childbirth class last night, which focused on newborn appearance & care. We also watched a very helpful video on Postpartum Depression, which I'm glad DH was there to see. My biggest learnings from the class were:

Pack a nail file for baby's nails - nurses in my hospital are not allowed to trim and/or file any baby's nails!
If you choose to circumcise, OBs perform the procedure at our hospital, not the pediatrician. We also got to see photos of the procedure that they follow (there are two possible procedures, our hospital follows one of those all the time.)
Pack my glasses - I will not be allowed to labor or deliver in contact lenses in the event that I would need an emergency c-section. :(

interesting. I wore my contacts during my first c/s. I distinctly remember popping them out back in the room and telling my mom to just toss them since they were disposables and I didn't have any solution with me so I know I had to have had them in during the c/s. Then again DH was holding my watch and wedding ring because the nurses didn't even notice I still had them on until they were wheeling me down to the OR and they go "you can't wear those during the operation" so maybe I wasn't supposed to have the contacts either....

I believe the rule about no contacts is only in the case of an emergency c/s when they have to put you under with general anesthesia. With an epidural or a spinal you can have them in, I think. Some hospitals don't allow you to even labor with contacts in because of the chance (however small) that you will need a c/s with no time for an epidural or a spinal.

Back from my dentist's appointment. It was just a cleaning, but I haven't had one in a really LONG time, so it wasn't a very pleasant one. I have to have a root canal!!! :( What a birthday present!

For those of you Bf'ing - I HIGHLY recommend going to a support group prior to the baby's arrival. I went to one this morning, it's held by the same people who are giving the class I'm taking in Sept. Every single woman there, said that they wished they had gone to one prior to having the baby. It was a very positive experience, something that you just can't get in a class. The support group I went to, was not run by LL - I just really feel like I "fit" better with this group. It's a buisness owned by two women that have been very welcoming and very informative.
We didn't talk about anything too specific, just that each one had issues at first that they had to work though and that every single one of them were happy that they worked through those issues. One lady said that "Breastfeeding my daughter is the highlight of my day" that was pretty cool to hear :)

Just thought I'd share my little happy high from this morning (happy because I feel like I have a head start on this mommy thing that's just around the corner! LOL!)

MIL kept asking questions and pulling DH and my mom aside when she was here.. right in front of me..hmm like I cant tell what they are talking about lol and of course I know my mom is going to be there~ she wouldnt miss it! I am really bad.. I will act surprised at least :)

I think everybody should check with their respective hospitals as individual policies may differ. It was made very clear at my hospital that contacts are NOT to be worn even during labor! Or, I guess if you don't know what the rules are at yours, just pack glasses, solution, and your lens case in your hospital bag so you're ready for anything!

Hi girls! I've been following along, but have been in a major funk the last two days. I'm not sure what has gotten into me, I let loose last night on poor DH. I couldn't stop crying, but I do feel better this morning. It was my first pregnancy break down thus far, so I guess it was the build up.

Just back from my latest appointment. Packed on a few more pounds, I need to slow down the sweets or the last few weeks aren't going to be pretty :p Heard the heartbeat which was 150 and regular, so good news. The doctor still thinks Bean is head down :D . I'm measuring 33.5 weeks, first time I've heard a number so not sure if I've been consistently ahead or not. Since I think my due date is a few days prior to what the doc says, 33.5 seems right on track.

Here are my next few appointments: September 8, September 19, September 28

i labored with my contacts in. i had heard that you wern't supossed to wear them. but when i got to the hospital, nobody asked me if i was wearing them, and i was in to much pain to even remember i was wearing them.
but good idea to bring glasses just in case.

EJM--sorry about the breakdown. You're entitled. DH will get over it.

Astara--I'm just like you with surprises! Every year I always figure out my Christmas/birthday gifts, but never let on.

Lvella--Nope, we won't be in Wisco for the holidays. We layed down a no travel rule this year, so my parents/inlaws have to come to us. It would have been fun to get together though. Once we have another trip on the calendar I will let you know. Will you be coming back to the Bay area any time soon?

DH took our Parenting class last night along with a tour of the hospital. Whew! It was overwhelming. First of all, I'm not a fan of hospitals. I've fainted in one before just visiting someone. The whole sterile environment really gets under my skin and I get uncomfortable. Wish I could just give birth in a hotel or something. Oddly enough, they allow cell phone usage throughout the hospital. Everything needs to be battery operated that we bring--laptop, music, etc. I was also very happy to hear that they've never had a security issue in the Newborn Care area. Speaking of which (new QOTD), are you planning to keep baby in your room overnight or will you have him/her stay in the nursery? Everyone I've talked to says put them in a nursery so you can get your last moments of sleep before you go home. Also, on your last night's stay at hospital they fix you a special candle-lit dinner for you and DH, and they allow you to bring in champagne. Bring on the Bubbly! :)

Class: Parenting class was okay, although the last hour was a struggle to stay awake. They taught us how to hold the baby, swaddling, ways to deal with colic. It was so endearing to watch DH handle this little doll like it was the "real thing". It sounds ridiculous but it was just too cute. :o They also got into detail about manicure/pedicures for baby. It sounds a lot more complicated than I ever thought. The instructor advised us to get a basic kit and never use an adult file as it will tear baby's nails to shreads instantly. Later this week we have breastfeeding and then part 2 of parenting next monday. Then, we are done with classes--woohoo!

I've been feeling okay, although my back kills when I sit for an extended period. I've got small pillows in the car and at my desk as the pain gets unbearable. Its in the middle-right of my back. Ugh! I think I'll try some yoga tonight and see if that helps. I still sleep through the night, rarely with a bathroom trip.:D DH thinks there's something wrong with me that I'm not getting up to pee at night. I'm just trying to enjoy it while it lasts. Despite this, I'm still incredibally tired in the morning. What I wouldn't do to sleep until 8 or 9.

Hmbay I hope you get some good information from him so you can make the right decision for you. A while back there was a thread on c-sections, and a few posters had their opinion about whether to attempt a vbac or to have a second c-section. I believe it was in the parenting thread. Although I do believe more people were for the vbac, so it might not give you the information your wanting to find for an erc.

DianeCourt That’s interesting about the cord and the alcohol. I hadn’t heard that before, I guess I just assumed it hadn’t changed. I’ll have to remember to ask them about that at cb class tomorrow.

Wow, that is really scary! And it also make it seem much closer. I’m glad this thread has had relatively good luck throughout our pregnancies. We’ve had one of the lowest m/c rates as compared to other threads, and no one has had their babies yet (knock on wood). Hoping that everyone here goes full-term.

Adoredh I’m glad that you have found a bfing support group that you like. I’m sure they will be a big help to you, especially in the beginning.

Astara I often do the same thing for xmas presents and such too. Funny when they think they’re being sneaky and that you have no idea, when really you know just about everything.

ejm Sorry about your breakdown, but your doing a lot better than I am if this is just your first one. Glad you had a good dr.’s appt and that bean is probably head down!

QOTD I am planning on exclusively bfing, so I won’t get much sleep anyways. I think I will have the baby in the nursery, and then if the baby needs anything other than being fed, they can take care of that, otherwise wake me up to feed her. I will need all the sleep I can get, especially when I head home from the hospital. Our childbirth instructor said that the first couple of days, the baby is still really tired from the whole birth experience, but then starts to be more alert after that. The exact opposite is true for the moms, the first couple of days, they’re really hyped up from the whole birth experience, but then after the first couple days (usually when you head home from the hospital) they’re tired and worn out.

surftraitor My back also hurts in that same spot. Usually right underneath my shoulder blade on my right side. I think it’s from sitting down all day long and not moving much.

So, I think I'm entering into a new phase......my body is starting to feel different and is doing new things. I've been much more AF type crampy in my lower abdomen, my lower back hurts and I'm just plain "sore" all over the pelvic region. It started on Thursday and at times has been pretty uncomfortable. Saturday night after the shower I had a really hard time climbing in or out of bed - at one point my back hurt so bad that I couldn't move. DH massaged my back for awhile and it eventually felt good enough that I could fall asleep but that wasn't until 2am. I thought maybe it was because I'd been up and moving nonstop since 9am but it hasn't gone away at all the past few days. I went to water aerobics this morning hoping that it would help but alas, no. I've had a few sharp pains that last a few seconds and some of my BH are now pretty painful vs. before there was no pain at all when I had them. And, on top of all that, I *think* I may have lost part of my MP this morning? I have no idea what it's supposed to look like but (TMI) it was a little chunk that was really thick CM - not bloody at all but definitely not anything I've had before. Anyone know (maybe our expert momma's in this group?) whether I'm on the right track here about it possibly being the MP?

I'm not too concerned because none of the pains are regular/consistent or lasting too long but it's so weird to be at the stage in which these things are starting. I guess my body's just "practicing" and getting itself ready! I just feel kinda dumb about all of this - I wish I knew what was going on in there! ;) :confused: Is anyone else going through this stuff yet?

Today was a blah day..I was tired (I think I slept for 3 hours last night total)and cranky. I had a complete preggo breakdown this morning. I had to take Oliver to the groomers, of course we were late :rolleyes: and he wouldn't go to the bathroom before he got in the car. If I had just taken him he would have peed in my car (prior experience). So here I am walking my dog up and down my street, sobbing hysterically and hoping that none of my neighbors would see me.

lvella--haven't had that happen yet however I'm having problems getting my bladder completely empty. I stand up and have to sit back down again and go more as the baby shifts around.

drs update--the drs appt went well. He actually encouraged me to try the vbac and said they wouldn't allow me to try after a c/s and with the low lying placenta if they didn't feel it was safe and yes there would be extra precautions they would have to take both during and after labor but again that if they felt it was too big of a risk they wouldn't allow me to try it. Supposedly this dr is pro-repeat c/s so I was shocked to get that reaction when I asked his opinion. And he was on time for his appt. Did say he had a 4 pm conference call but before he left he made sure I had all my questions answered--even said he could be a few minutes late for the call if I still had questions. MUCH happier with this new dr even though I'll probably see him only 2 or 3 more times before the birth. And the high point--he took me off pelvic rest since my spotting stopped completelly yesterday and the placenta has moved! :) So DH is a happy man tonight. Can't say it was the most enjoyable but is sex enjoyable at 35 weeks for anyone really? It was nice to have some intimacy back in our relationship though--although I keep checking to see if the spotting has started up again and so far so good.

levella yes, itsn't it lovly to pee yourself when you sneeze. it only gets worse the second time around. i have to try and make sure i squeeze myself tight while sneezing, and even still it likes to leak out. i actually have a friend who carries and extra pair of panties in her glove box for a just in case in public.

scuba first time around i was really confused as to what the mucus plug was supossed to look like. everyone including ob said it would pretty much look like a huge glob of snot. well, when i finally lost the plug, that was exactly what it looked like, when i wiped it felt really globby, i looked in the toliet and there was this HUGE blob of glop in the toliet.

chad and liz my dd slept thru the night for the first 2 1/2 weeks. it was heaven. after that, there were nights i was seriously up all night. dd is not almost 2, and we still have our night every now and then. :rolleyes:

shushyk: You know I've been thinking about getting that monitor, and I think if our baby is a preemie then I will definitely get it. If he is full term then I might not. I have this book that my mom sent me that is written by a Swedish child expert and in Sweden they still put their babies on their tummy to sleep because apparently that way they tend to sleep better but everyone has that monitor. It's as standard as having a crib. I thought that was pretty interesting.

QOTD, the hospital I will be delivering in actually does not have a nursery per se. The baby is in the room with you at all times unless they need to be in the NICU.

dragonfly--I have that monitor. Did get it mostly because Ds was a preemie but honestly I think it's worth every penny even if they aren't. You won't believe how many times you wonder "are they still breathing" at first and the monitor is good peace of mind. babycenter store often has them for around $40-50 shipped.

qotd--baby will room in although I am a light sleeper so I may regret that but I do plan to BF this time around so like someone else said the nurses would be delivering the baby and waking me up several times a night anyhow so he might as well be in the room with me.

Tulip, don't worry about it! You'll be ok!!! Let me know how your appointment with the dietician goes, how many carbs you are allowed to eat for each meal and snack and we'll get you some awesome recipes to try (also, ask your dietician if you count net carbs or total carbs...lots of products will say "3 net carbs," but when you look at the label, there are 7 grams of carbs...I have to count total carbs, which means not subtracting dietary fiber and the "good stuff"). One of my favorite dinners has 30 carbs in it...leaves me plenty of room for a cup of No Sugar Added Dreyers Fudge Tracks ice cream (17 carbs per half cup serving).

I understand the breakdown...I really do. I've had a few myself, but you'll really be alright. My most recent breakdown was on Monday when they told me they were increasing my insulin because my numbers are still not going down enough and consistently. Also, when at childbirth class I can't have the apple juice I crave so badly and I can't have some of the snacks others bring because they don't have the carb count included and I don't know it off the top of my head...so I sit there and much on veggies and peanut butter.

Really, it is an adjustment, but it is one that you are capable of making. You don't have to give everything up...you won't be forced to eat like a rabbit for the next two months. You actually NEED carbs, you just need to control how many carbs you have and which ones you have. You'll find that some things raise your blood sugar in unexpected ways and some don't bother you. For me, a sensible portion of low carb ice cream doesn't kill my blood sugar, but a banana sure does. Likewise, a Braeburn apple is fine for me, but Red Delicious is not.

Don't worry about it...you CAN control this and it will go away as soon as the placenta is delivered.

Lvella: That happened to me once, too - I had a sneezing attack because I was allergic to a friend's cat. (Although pantyliners have been a necessity for me since about 23 weeks for another reason - the disturbing amount of white discharge that's apparently yet another fun part of pregnancy & just keeps increasing as the weeks progress.) :o

Rooming In vs. Nursery: Our hospital promotes "family centered birthing," which is basically a fancy way to say that they really, really, want the baby to room in with you instead of hanging out in the nursery. I'm planning on doing that, but I also think it depends on how I feel after delivery. I'm trying to promise myself that I won't feel bad if I ask them to put Baby R. in the nursery for a while so I can get a little bit of rest before I go home.

I bought a Snoogle on Sunday and I'm amazed at how much it's helped my lower back pain! I realize now that my sleeping positions must have really been aggravating my back, so now that I have more support for my belly & legs during the night, my back is happier during the day. So far it's been more than worth the $50 I invested in it. :)

Baby R. REALLY enjoyed keeping me up last night! Between the 20 minute hiccup session the poor thing had & his/her desire to stretch out & poke limbs into my ribs, I tossed & turned in bed for over 45 minutes before things calmed down & I could fall asleep myself. :rolleyes: Crazy kid!

lml, thank you so much for your help and support. I think it helps to know I'm not going through this alone. I'm just waiting to hear back from the dietician about my appointment on Friday. The doctor's office said it wasn't full blown GD but I'm really close to it. They'll be giving me a glucose monitor to check my sugar levels. My SIL has Type 1 diabetes so she also offered to help me out with my sugar/carb counts and diet options. I'll let you know what my limits are when I find out.

I had my last montly appointment today and I was there for about 15 minutes. Its funny how quickly these appointments go.

Appointment Stats:
- I put on 2.5 pounds in month 7 for a total of approximately 25 pounds
- Heartbeat was 146
- Blood Pressure 98/70 (or close)
- Measuring 30 cm
- Glucose test number - 104

On September 1st we have the 4D u/s and I cannot wait!!! Then Sept 13 I start my two week apointments.

question about mucas plug. Lately I noticed a huge increase in ewcm, is that the mucas plus coming out slowly? How early can the plug come out?

QOTD - Rooming IN here. The hospital has a nursery, but its only an option if its STAFFED. THey said thats because they are a level 3 hosptial, and most healthy babies the moms want to be roomed in anyway.

Well yesterday I got into this weird confrontation with my friend. It was all over my shower... really annoying. I hate when I make someone feel badly about something I unintentionally did. Anyway its all over but it was really strange. Not to mention extremely uncomfortable.

More stuff was bought off my registry :D I love peaking! There is one little thing left to pain in the baby's room. That will be done this weekend. We gave away a bunch of stuff to HOPE (like good will) today, so all that extra stuff in the baby's closet is pretty much gone. Things are FINALLY coming together! (just don't ask me what crib I am ordering ;) ) I am ordering samples for the window treatment. I feel so organized!!!

Sounds like you'll already have a great source of support in your SIL!

FWIW, I'm also borderline, but for whatever reason, my body just wasn't responding to cutting carbs and exercising. That's why I went on insulin. The endocrinologist told me that my numbers were "unimpressive."

Here's my breakdown:
30 grams of carbs for breakfast
15 for a snack
60 for lunch
15 for a snack
60 for dinner

A typical breakfast for me is 3/4 a cup of Honey Nut Cheerios (22 grams) with 1 cup of Hood's Carb Countdown milk that I drink after the cereal is gone (3 grams), 1 cup of Diet V8 Splash (3 grams). A spoonfull of peanut butter and a couple eggs if I have eggs on hand.

Lunches are hard for me because I had been eating a turkey sandwich (roughly 30 carbs), one serving of potato chips (about 14 carbs) and some fruit that is cut to be no larger than the size of my fist (15 carbs). That was sending my blood sugar soaring, so I went to the grocery store and bought some frozen meals that are low carb. There's a line out by Kraft for South Beach Diet...they've got frozen meals, snacks and Lunchables type stuff. They're pretty good! They're not enough for an entire meal, so I supplement with other healthy options, but they're a good foundation.

For dinner, DH and I go out a lot or we grill. Last night we had soft tacos on low-carb tortillas. I had two tacos with sour cream and cheese...my total carb count was 25 for that meal. That left me with plenty of room for dessert (which is my weakness). I had low-carb ice cream. Two hours later, my BSLs were in the low 90's. My favorite dinner lately is a piece of grilled chicken with two tablespoons of KC Masterpiece barbeque sauce (15 grams of carbs), grilled corn on the cob (1/2 cup of corn is 15 grams, so I scrape it off the cob and measure it out) or peas with chili powder seasoning (15 grams for half a cup), oven-roasted asparagus (free! the carbs don't count!) and as much salad as I want with a no-carb dressing. For that meal, I have 30-45 carbs (depending on how much corn I eat or if I have corn and peas), which leaves plenty of room for either a Sugar Free Jello Pudding Pack or some other kind of dessert. Even fast food isn't totally off limits. Just go on the websites and print the nutritional info. I can't really eat burgers right now because the buns send my sugars soaring, but that's ok. I like fries better. :o

shushyk --we really didn't have many false alarms until Colin got older and rolled around more in his crib--if he'd get too far off the center of the mattress it would possibly alarm. we just turned it over to "sound only" once it got too annoying (somewhere between 9 and 12 months I think it was). Even with the false alarms I felt much better having it and honestly after the first few times you get a false alarm it wakes you up and you go check but your heart isn't in your throat anymore--you just go drag the kiddo back to the middle of the bed (unless of course they really have stopped breathing) and go back to bed yourself.

Good Morning!

I finally slept wonderful last night and woke up with NO back pain. You know what I did.... I got rid of all the pillows I was sleeping with and just used the two under my head :D I guess I had too many pillows propping me up and it was messing with my body position.

My little dilemma I received a package yesterday. It was from a Wal-Mart (one of our registered places) out in Arizona, so I know it's from my grandmother. But the thing is, my shower is suppose to be a surprise and so I am guessing it's coming up within the next few weekends :D I didn't open the box fearing that my grandmother left a message about not making it to the shower and revealing the date. Now I don't know if I should mention it to my mom about getting the package, or just let it alone. I am such a hard person to surprise, and I don't want my sister and mom to be all disappointed if they worked so hard to keep it a secret and I found out by a clueless grandmother!

The bed rails for the crib came in yesterday. DH decided we should order these now, instead of when we convert the bed a couple years from now. This was just incase the company didn't manufacture the bed and then we could have a hard time finding rails to fit.

Baby in Nursery/my room Our hospital allows the baby to stay in your room and can ask any time to have it go to the nursery. Depending on when we deliver and how much rest I am getting, I may send it off to the nursery for a few hours. I do want to BF, so they will definitly bring it to me when it's hungry. Our hospital really supports BF mothers!

well i went pee one morning at 3am, and when i wiped it was really slimy. i looked at the tp, and then in the toliet, and sure enough, it looked like a huge glob of snot in the toliet and on the tp. within 1/2 hour i started getting some uncomfortable contractions.
i have a friend who started losing hers about a month before the baby was born.

I too had problems making up my mind about our crib. But I finally just had to force myself to go with my gut and pick out something. Sorry you’re feeling overwhelmed from the classes, I think that’s normal. I got a little teary eyed the other night in the breastfeeding class, but just because I’m so excited to have that wonderful bonding experience with my child. That EPI-NO thing is interesting. Not sure if it works, or even HOW it works, LOL! I suggest you try perineal massage if you’re interested. And kegels if you aren’t already doing those, to improve your pushing control.

adoredh Thanks for the thoughts on stretchmarks. I’m just kind of trying to forget that they’re there and hope they aren’t as noticeable in a few months. It definitely does not make me want to get into a bathing suit right now though!!! LOL Hey shower twin, look at all that stuff that you’ve got already!! ;) We’ve gotten a few “big ticket” items taken off so far, but nothing like that! I hope your showers are wonderful.

I’ve been lurking in the breastfeeding thread over here since it started, and I know I’ll be using those ladies as a sounding board and a source of advice after Luke is here. I know breastfeeding is going to be really hard at first, but as long as I can get through the first few weeks/months, I think it’ll be the greatest experience! It is really great to have the support of the experienced moms on CC to ask questions to when things are tough. I also plan to join our local LLL chapter and see if I can make some new friends that are also breastfeeding moms!

I would call your doctor about some of those symptoms. It’s normal for BH to get painful towards the end, that’s how the cervix starts to efface and dilate before you go into “actual” labor. And it does sound like that could be your mucus plug that you lost. Read what I wrote below about it.

Cartersmommy I think you should be concerned if you don’t feel it at all for a few hours. But really concerned and should call your doc if you don’t feel movement for 24 hours. Especially if you try things to get him/her to move and he/she doesn’t. Glad your tour was good!

Organizing Clothes I have all of Lucas’s clothes except for some pants (that I don’t have hangers for) and his little wrap-around t-shirts, hanging in the closet. I imagine after my showers this weekend, I’ll sit down and see what else we need clothes-wise (hopefully nothing!) and wash the new stuff. Then I’ll probably fold the pants and t-shirts and put them in his dresser, leaving everything else to hang in the closet.
We have a good amount of onesies, sleepers, sleep-sacks, and outfits in 0-3 and 3-6 months. When I say “good amount” I mean, probably 3-5 each? This way I won’t have to do laundry all the time, but if he grows out of a size quickly then it’s not too much money wasted, you know? We are expecting a big baby, so I don’t have very much in newborn and premie sizes. Just a few outfits/onesies.

Scrapbook I don’t have the patience/time for scrapbooking, but I do have a baby book for Luke that has places to record all his milestones. I found it at a local boutique, but I’ve seen similar ones at BRU, Target and Walmart.

dizziness/lightheaded I felt this yesterday afternoon, but I think it may have been due to the fact that I was wearing a sweater and it was really hot in our office. Plus I didn’t eat much for lunch. I took the sweater off and ate something and felt much better.

Rooming in Our hospital encourages it, but also has a fully staffed nursery if you don’t want to. I plan on rooming in the whole time. I’m open to taking him to the nursery if I need to though. From what I’ve heard, you will be waken up a lot during the night for vitals and feedings (if you are breastfeeding) and the beds are not that comfortable, so you won’t get much sleep because of that.

Mucus plug I’ve heard it describes as a big chunk of mucus, or several smaller chunks, or looking like snot. It can be bloody streaked or not. But it means little about when you will deliver. Could be days, could be weeks. Though in our breastfeeding class they said it’s usually within 2 weeks of losing your MP that you will go into labor. There’s always exceptions to that though. But your physician should know if you think you lost it already.

My birthday was good, despite the bad news from the dentist. DH cooked a nice dinner, and we watched “Hitch” before bed. He gave me a 14 karat solid gold necklace chain to put my wedding ring on so that we don’t have to have it cut off if my fingers start to really swell. It’s beautiful. And he also put a box of blueberries in the gift bag for dessert! I LOVE blueberries. They were yummy. And a card from him and Luke. :D

Our breastfeeding class was Monday. It was great! I really liked the lactation consultant, and I’m so glad our hospital has such a great program for nursing moms. I did learn some things, like the hospital has kits for sale if you are thinking about renting one of their pumps. The kits are paid for by insurance if you request them while you are there delivering, and they include a manual pump as well!! So if we don’t get the Avent pump we registered for from our shower, we’re going to get our insurance to pay for the kit that comes with the manual Medela pump, even though we probably won’t rent a pump. We watched a video with lots of latch-on techniques and videos of babies nursing. That was useful because I had never quite understood why you’re supposed to make sure the baby gets plenty of the areola in the bottom part of the mouth, and less of the areola in the top. But it totally makes sense the way she explained it and how it was shown in the videos. I also found out that consultations with the LC’s at the hospital (on the phone or in person at the hospital, not at home) are free of charge. So that’s nice. Dh learned a lot too, so I’m really glad that he went. There were a lot of other dads there too, so he didn’t feel alone.

Tonight is our final birthing class, I’m excited! We’re going to talk about delivery, c-sections, and post-partum care as well as learn some more positions and techniques.

I have the good fortune to have had not one but three girlfriends offer to throw me a baby shower. One friend lives about 45 minutes south of DC, so I thanked her profusely but told her that I didn't think it would work since so many of my friends don't have transportation down there. She was the woman who had the birthday party over the weekend so we treated that like my last fling out before baby.

Another friend, S, offered. I threw her baby shower last year (and could have done a better job, BTW), but she just moved. Then B offered, so I suggested that S and B work together on the shower. Not a completely bad idea, of course, they have only met each other once.

S moved recently and I said that if the shower was too much, that B would be happy to host it at her house (or at my house) but that moving and having a shower a month later seemed like it would be pretty demanding. She insisted that it wouldn't be. We talked about dates, decided on September 10th, and I told her I'd get her and B a list of addresses. Then S closed on one house, bought another, and moved.

B is/was getting really nervous because she couldn't reach S. 9/10 is coming really quickly and invites hadn't been sent, nothing had been planned, what was going on? She finally got ahold of S who told her that she was on top of things and could B just get the cake at Costco and bring it? B is one of my DC friends - no car, no Costco membership. She lives in a tiny place on the Hill, what does she need a car and/or membership to a bulk store for, right? S was put out about this. There are any number of ways B could be helping out. She could have done the invites. She could have bought supplies at Safeway. B and I had lunch and she said that she felt as if she were shut out of things.

Anyway, Monday I tell Brian that I'm pretty nervous about things and what the status of stuff is. Later that afternoon, the e-vite to my shower arrives in my email. So 20 days before the shower the e-vite goes out. Now, because I'm me, I have basically told everyone who is invited that they are invited and to save the date. And, also because I'm me, I've been pretty insistant that I wanted something casual and laid back (and no games.) But an e-vite 2 1/2 weeks before the event?

I think S bit off more than she could manage given the events in her life at the time. But I couldn't really say "Look, let B send out the invitations." And I'm grateful to have a shower, since I didn't have a wedding shower (which is funny, because several of my friends were kiddingly grousing that they were just at my bridal shower and here I was hitting them up for another gift again - I kindly reminded them that, um, you weren't at my shower, because I didn't have one. And if you were at my shower, some bitch stole my gifts and pretended to be me!)

So is it petty of me to wish that I had just told B to throw my shower and told S thanks, but it's under control (even though S did offer first and I did accept her offer?)

The baby has already received several gifts. My great aunt sent the first gift, an afghan she crocheted from yarn that my great-grandmother left when she passed away. So touching! Then my friend Michelle brought me University of Oregon stuff from her folks.

Yesterday, I got home to find that my grandmother (the one used to hate me, but currently I'm only the least-favorite grandchild - rankings improve when you're 3,000 miles away) sent me an afghan that she crocheted for the baby. It's a dog with a bone, dish and house. I burst into tears and sobbed for about 20 minutes. This is the nicest thing she's ever done for me (of course, it *was* for the baby). And it was a dog. I know I never told her we were doing the room in puppies. Maybe my dad did. Regardless, it's the first time I've ever thought this woman actually got me or cared for me. Brian admired the afghan, but told me not to get too carried away. One afghan does not make up for 32 years of crap. Besides, he thinks she only wants to see the baby, which is probably true. I would never be spiteful and not send photos, but I also sort of doubt that we'd take him to visit her even if we do go to visit friends in Oregon. It's bad when my dad doesn't want to visit his own mother.

So that's the state of the shower. I'm unsettled about the whole thing. I'm sure it will be fine...

Correction - I wanted to make a correction from a few pages ago. Someone mentioned that we had the lowest m/c record and no one had delivered their babies yet. Yes, we have been fortunate, but I think we need to remember that LDSAngel had her baby at 20 weeks and Allison did not make it. I'm sorry to be a bummer to the thread, but it's important to me that we remember that LDSAngel is/was an October mom and her daughter was born, did live, and was just too small to make it.

We have been really blessed and should all be thankful for that (and now I feel like a complete idiot bitching about my shower above.)

jill: And here I was silently stewing over the invites to our shower not going out yet, and it's still 4 weeks away. That totally sucks, especially since B is so anxious to help with the shower. I agree that in the end, it will probably be fine, but I understand how frustrating it is right now.

LDS Angel: I often see you viewing the thread. Please post and let us know how you and DH are.

Rooming In: I can request the baby to go to the nursery but I don't really see that happening. I think I'm going to be in such awe of this baby that I won't be sleeping much the first few days.

As for me, I've started a list of freezer recipes I plan to have DH or I make in the next few weeks prior to the baby's arrival. Other than that not much is new, I'm LOVING the cooler weather we are having right now, it definitely helps the cankles.

In case anyone needs a laugh for the day, I forgot to post this about our first childbirth class last Saturday. The instructor had "vagina boxes" so we could feel the various stages of dilation and thinning. She told us the first couple, then passed them around the room so we could all feel. Talk about almost peeing my pants watching 15 people stick two fingers in each of these boxes then pondering the dilation amount with serious faces. Then as a "game", after the practice session, she passed around two boxes but didn't tell us any information and we all had to guess the stage. In a class of 15 people, equal men and women -- guess who was the only person who was not only the only person in the ballpark but hit it smack on the head for both boxes -- MY DH :eek: who is Mister No Baby Experience. I leaned over and told him he could save us a lot of unnecessary trips to L&D ;)

Don't ask me why that just came to me, but I figured we could use a little humor in here.

cJ If it were me, I would open the gift and if it revealed when the shower was, i would just keep it to myself. I hate surprises though. I can never wait to find things out!

Rooming in I plan on having the baby room-in with us. I agree with whoever said that I will probably be so in awe of her that I won't want to let her out of my sight. I doubt I will be able to sleep much in the hospital anyway.

My back has really been killing me lately. It is right in the middle of my back, on the right side. I am sure it is from sitting at my desk all day. I also get short of breath a lot. I don't even have to be doing anything. There are times when I am just sitting at my desk and all of a sudden it seems like I can't get a deep breath. Just a little over a month left....I can do it!!!!

Has anyone ever had any leg pain like this.....every once in a while when I am walking, my leg gets a burning feeling....like I just ran 10 miles and I am so tired that I can barely walk anymore. It is just one leg and it goes away after about 10 seconds or so. Is this normal?

I am starting to feel a little overwhelmed with everything right now. It seems like there is so much that we still need to buy. I just feel so unprepared. I feel like I am not going to know what to do when we bring the baby home with us, like I am not going to know when to feed her, how to breastfeed, when she needs to sleep, etc. I have never really been around a newborn for a significant amount of time before. I know it is just me realizing how close we are to the end, but it really freaks me out sometimes. Maybe I will start to feel better when our childbirth classes start on Sept. 8th. I have read so many books and magazines that you would think I would feel prepared, but I don't think any amount of reading can truly prepare you. All of my friends say that it will just come naturally. I really hope they are right.

organizing clothes (bear in mind that I am a bit OCD) I have all the clothes hung on baby hangers by size and type. All of his onsies are folded by color and size in a drawer. All of his bibs are folded in a different drawer along with his socks. *sigh*

rooming in Like some of the other ladies, I think I will be so enamored with my son that I will not want him in the nursery – that an I plan on bf’ing so I might as well keep him as close to the food as possible! :D

leg pain I have not had that type of leg pain but I was awakened at 3:00 the other morning with the WORST calf cramps! I couldn’t figure out why because I had 100 oz of water that day and had taken my calcium. DH says it was because I had very limited salt intake for the days prior… anyone heard of this?

rooming in: I don't think I have a choice at my birthing center. I think the only option is rooming in. The nursery is only used for babies that need special attention, otherwise it is not staffed.

Well I have a feeling my shower is going to be cancelled. It was supposed to be on Saturday but now this tropical storm is coming our way and is supposed to be here Saturday. I don't understand why all tropical storms/hurricans always have to hit us on the week end. Whoever is coordinating this, I'm going to have to complain.

Tiger-- yes, i have had some leg pain like that, only mine has happened while i'm sitting. i have horrible cankles and just figured it was from the swelling. ah, the joys!

speaking of cankles..... MINE ARE HORRIBLE! i feel like it should be something to worry about, but i know that it's normal. but man, i have never had swollen ankles before, and it just makes me uneasy!!

amber-- great belly shot! you have the cutest belly!! :)

tulip-- so sorry about the GTT. It will all be just great, and just know that your dr. will take very good care of you. just have faith that it will all be just fine and it's only for a few weeks!! :)

monitor-- i have that monitor too... i am anxious to use it and see how it goes. i'm glad to hear the testimonials on it though.

DH and i went and bought an excercise bike tonight. i'm really excited to have something in our house that we can use to exercise instead of going somewhere. and once carter gets here, it'll be even nicer! i'm excited to get it!

i just found out today that my mom's side of the family is throwing a small family shower (probably 10 or so people) for us and we're going to get a group gift of our travel system! i am so excited, as this one of the last big things we really need! i was so grateful!

ok, i should go watch some tv with dh and then hit the sak. i will talk to you girls tomorrow!!

Hi guys,

I'm back from our trip to the Bay Area. It was a great trip and we got SOOO much stuff. I cannot believe how generous people were.

I won't even list out everything because I'm almost a little embarrased. We had to ship most of it and then return a lot fo Babies R Us and then re-buy it when we got back down here.

Besides the big items off our registry we got some of the CUTEST outfits. I'm talking a full shipping box full. Someone even bought us pink baby UGGS! So cute.

Then I got back to work yesterday and went to have my "performance review" lunch with my boss and it turned out to be a Surprise Shower. I was SHOCKED! I had no clue they would even do anything for me. It was great, cake, flowers, ballons, and a $200 gift card to Amazon.com. I'm overwhelmed with the generosity!

This Saturday is also our shower down here with our friends. There are going to be like 30 adults and 6 kids. It should be a really fun time.

We are having awesome weather for this time of year. It's really helping my swelling. The top of my feet still swell, but it doesn't travel up my calfs.

We are having my in-laws over tomorrow night for MIL's birthday. I am dreading it. She's a nice woman, but her voice... it's high pitch, whinny and just gets under my skin. Everything is she says always has to have an "Awwww" in it. KWIM? My mom has given me some advice as to how to bring up my wishes for labor and delivery. I am going to open the conversation with asking them what their thoughts about it. Whether they want to be contacted before or after birth, etc. Then proceed to either agree or disagree with them and let them know my preferences.

I think this kid had a growth spurt in the last day or two. I can NOT seem to find a position I can breath in all of a sudden. :( But I've been sleeping a bit better (other than not getting enough) and the spotting has still stopped so I'm very happy about that. However I've been experiencing more swelling lately. I actually woke up with slightly swelled ankles yesterday. If you wake up with them you know it's not looking to be a good day. ;) I actually just had to take off my wedding ring and the other ring I was wearing and put them on my bracelet because they feel tight. DH got about half his stuff out of the nursury finally. I have the wall free for the dresser and glider. Just need to free up the wall for the crib and we're all good there.

My next appt is Sept 8th--37 weeks and 4 days! I probably should have tried to get in earlier that week but with it being labor day week and all they were pretty booked up and I wanted to go back to the same dr since I've decided I like him.

What a wild week it's been!

Monday DH and I went to the fair - got to see all the 4H animals (love horses, I used to be a trail guide and trainer for trail horses, miss that job, didn't even cover the cost of gas, but it was fun! :D ) They didn't have any carmel apples though, I almost cried in disapointment. DH is going back again tonight, and said that if he see's any, he'll get me one...

Tuesday I scrubed all of our outdoor chairs, 8 in total, all with the cushions. I wanted them to be nice and clean for the co-ed shower my parents are throwing this Sat. My great Aunts and Uncles are coming, along with my Grandpa and his wife. I want them to have the nice cushion seats to sit on instead of the fold up ones or the plastic kind. It took until this morning for them to dry, so I was glad I did it on Tuesday!!!

Wednesday - DH and I had our class, neither one of us wanted to go, both of us are just so tired with everything going on! So the first half of the class was about the different types of pain management you can use, then she showed the vacum and the forceps (giant salad tongs ladies, giant salad tongs) For break, which I was looking forward to getting up and walking around a bit since my back was killing me, was going into another room, sitting down yet again, and getting a sales pitch about buying bfing pumps. For other's, I'm sure this was useful information, for me, ugh, it ment sitting down again and hearing stuff I already know (from the another bfing group I'm going to work with) So that was not fun. Finally the lady stoped talking and we were ready to go to the hospital for our tour (right across the street) birthing room impressed DH, nice and big with jacuzzi tub, shower seats, chair that converts to a teeny tiny bed, rocking chair, and everything you need to deliver a baby. He was not impressed with how small the TV was :rolleyes:

Thursday - today for lunch, I bought 3 nursing bras, a nursing nighty, and a long sleeve nursing top from Motherhood all for $70 - steal of a deal. Tonight I have my first shower, thrown by my co-workers, very excited! But more excitting then that, today is our 4 year Anniversary! Very proud of Todd and I, we have a wonderful marriage, a baby on the way, and we're just doing fab-bo! :D

Friday - tomorrow night, DH and I hope to go to dinner for our Anniversary, (crossing my fingers for my fav Italian place, locally and family owned, love their food!) I am taking the day off tomorrow to get the inside of the Jimmy cleaned out, seats and floors washed, the works. DH is not allowed to smoke in the suv any more after tomorrow. Hee, hee, more insintive to quit!

Sat - my parents are throwing me the BIG shower with all my family from my dad's side (huge huge huge family) and my mom's side, plus a couple of our friends too. I think we'll have around 50 to 60 people!!! :eek:

Sun - I plan to play with all the babies gifts! LOL!!!

Well, I did decide to call the doctor and then preceeded to spend 6 hrs in L&D last night. I actually called the consulting nurse first....explained everything to her, she then talked to the OB that was on call at the hospital and he suggested I go in for monitoring. I was so freaked out and I don't freak out easily! I walked into the ER by myself (DH & MIL were on their way) and of course right in front of me is a woman hunched over a wheelchair in labor screaming at the top of her lungs. Um, yah, that in itself is enough to scare anyone!! Then I just felt stupid for being there and at the same time scared out of my mind that I could be her! I got checked in & they send me up to L&D - got hooked up on monitors and it was so wierd b/c I was definitely having contractions but I wasn't feeling them! A couple times I did and they were not pleasant by any means but for the most part all I felt was the constant ache in my lower abdomen. The nurse had her hand on my belly going "you don't feel this right now?!"....."um...nope." Some of the contrax were reaching up into the 40's (on the scale they use that goes to 100) and at one point were 6 min apart. They did an exam (love that) and found that I had a watery discharge so they sent that up to the lab to see if it was amniotic fluid and then said that I am a fingertip dilated....not quite a full 1cm but close. That at least explains the shooting pains I've had in my cervix. Sat there for another couple hours waiting for the results and they finally say that it wasn't so they gave me a terb shot to stop the contractions. If it had been fluid, they wouldn't have stopped it, which was scary b/c I was soooo not ready to have the baby last night! So, I'm ordered off work today and tomorrow and then if anything comes up again I'm to go straight to L&D and they'll just let the labor happen. Yikes. Needless to say it was a huge wake up call and DH & I and going to work our butts off to get bags packed, a phone list together, etc. etc. etc. Honestly, the scariest part for me was not feeling the contractions....I mean, next time I may not feel them either and I won't even know it's time to go to the hospital! My mom & sis had really quick labors and by the time they realized they were in labor, babies were just about here.......and after this experience I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be the same?! Course, my luck, I'll be the exception and will go 2 wks over my due date and have like a 48 hr labor! LOL! At this point I'm just so grateful that I don't have to go through this alone and at least I know what to expect when I go in there for the actual birth. And above all else, I'm glad to be at the 34 wk point in which Carter would be fine.

Ok, back to bed! Take care of yourselves ladies!!! Relax and keep those babies staying put! ;)

He was not impressed with how small the TV was
where were the speakers? when I delivered Colin the speakers were on the sides of the hospital bed..... While I was there for the few extra days recovering from the c/s Dh wanted to watch the football game and had to crawl into bed with me so he could hear it without making me totally deaf (and the sound quality sucked as well). :rolleyes:

scubasam --we were posting at the same time. Oh how scary. Luckily my two visits to L&D this time have only been an hour or so of NST's and sending me home. Hope Carter stays put a few more weeks--but if not I had my first son about this point in the pregnancy and everything should turn out fine--he'll just probably have a bit of hospital stay before he can come home (1-3 weeks most likely).

I was shocked when they told me to go up to a 40C from a 36A, but believe it or not, they fit pretty well! The cups are a little big, which the sales lady said is perfect, and the reason I'm up to a 40 right now, is because my ribs are wide from the baby. I've got the hooks on the biggest setting right now, so I'll be able to make it smaller as my ribs go back down.

I laughed at myself in the dressing room, I tried on the nursing shirt with one of the bra's, and check them out to see how they work. My boob looks huge peaking out from the cut in the shirt and the nursing bra!!! So weird!

WARNING: Rant

Ok, since I just *had* to tell everyone i'd been sleeping through the night and have only been getting up to go to the bathroom, I have been having the crappiest sleep! I cant get comftorble so I lay there till like 2am then I wake up every hour.. oh and get this my cat decided she likes to jump on me and put her face right in my face and scream at me!! (MEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) until I wake up! omg, she does this to me all night and all day. I shut her out of the bedroom this morning and I was able to sleep in till 10:30 but when i did wake up I could hear her sitting by the door "meeeeeeeeeh" scratch, scratch. AHHH! HELP ME!!!!! she used to be such a perfect little cat until she got spayed and that almost killed her.. ever since then she's been the most annoying thing ever. I love my pets, I really do.. its just hard to handle them while being prego! ok, sorry. I am done ranting now.

Rooming in We will be having Genevieve room in with us as well. I know I'll be up a lot and, like others have said, we will be so enamoured with her that we'll just want to stare at her all night.

Monitor We were wanting to do a video monitor (who knows if we will though) & regular sound monitors.. but I also like the idea of the angel monitor.. I was considering it before but it keeps coming back to me the more reviews I hear about it. Is there any kind of special hook-ups you have to do? or do you just plug it in?

I am glad to see im not the only one who knows "surprises" ahead of time! :D

I am starting classes beginning 9/8 the first one is 'Parent Preview'.. tour of L&D then Car Seat fitting on 9/13..then Newborn Care class 9/14. Yay! those are all I signed up for.. I just decided not to go through a really long class.. I also am wearing my maternity pants for the first time today. OH oh oh oh.. what is wrong with me.. why oh why did I wait so long! comfort at last! I am definintley buying more & ill probably get a couple of shirts too! Have a great rest of the week ladies!!!

Oh yeah & today is my 32 week appointment~ Hopefully everything goes nice and smoothly!

Hi everyone,
Just dropping by. Was uber-crabby yesterday but am happy to say I slept well last night and have renewed spring in step. :) In a move fueled by clothing frustration, I went to Gap Maternity yesterday and bought 3 new shirts. I'm wearing one of them today and feel so much better. My clothes were so uncomfortable I couldn't take it any more. Whenever I bent over, my pants would fall down and shirt would fly up. Its a recipe for disaster. I'm convinced Flipper is going through a big growth spurt this week. My back was killing, so I left at 4. At home, I took a nice 1 hour nap and DH fixed dinner. All was better in the world.

Tiger: my pain sounds just like your's. Middle back, sharp pain, hard to get comfortable...guess we're partners in misery. As I was laying down yesterday, I had the realization that this pain will likely still be around a month from now, since the baby will still be inside. Not good.

Scubasam: sounds like you had quite an experience! Glad everything came out okay. Your story was a nice awakening for me too (since I'm due a day after you). Take it easy.

Lexy: so jealous about the baby Uggs. I have a bit of baby girl envy right now, as uggs aren't as exciting for boys.

Lvella: sorry about the sneeze-pee. Haven't had that yet, but I'm sure I just need some time. Yet another thing to look forward too.

JH124: sorry about the cold. Major sucky. Am hoping to make it through the next 5+ weeks healthy. I can't imagine being in labor and sneezing! Ack! Perhaps that could push the baby out though...;)

Monitors: I've heard from a coworker that the video ones suck. They aren't very clear. Right now we just have a Sony one, but I was looking into the Angel monitor too.

Rooming in: I must be the only selfish mother, as I plan to have the baby in the nursery at night while at the hospital. Honestly, everyone has told me that its best to get your rest and it was the best decision they made, although very difficult. Sure, the nurse will bring the baby in every 2 hours for nursing, but I fear that if the baby roomed in with us I'd be constantly in fear of him stopping breathing. Thus, I'm still going to have him have his first sleepover in the "baby tank". Of course, I've been known to change my mind...

Classes: Breastfeeding tonight. I'm sooooo dreading it. DH is joining me, although he did battle me a bit. I told them that there's a lot of information to absorb and its best if both of us take it in. I think at this point in my pregnancy, he knows to pick his battles. My reactions are a bit iffy these days...Who knows if I'd ream him out, cry, or simply stop speaking to him all together? Poor guy.

Weekend plans:
Friday: Date night. No plans as of yet, but possibly dinner a/o a movie. All depends on my energy level.

Saturday: company sample sale. I'll be duking it out with fellow employees for the goods. Am hoping to score a 5x8 rug for nursery, bedside table for nursery, lamp, and some end tables for the living room. We'll see how it goes. Poor DH will have to be my Sherpa and haul everything into the cars.

Sunday: Girlfriend shower!! Excited to see all my friends. Its small--8 of us--and we're having lunch at a restaurant. That evening one of my high school friends and her DH may be coming to stay with us for the night. She's kinda flaky, so we'll see if they make it.

Wow--lots going on this weekend. Makes me exhausted just thinking about it.

Astara --angel care monitor. It's pretty easy. There is a flat board like piece about 10 x14 or so that goes under the mattress and has a wire that runs into the "base unit" that you plug in in the nursury. Then you just have your normal baby monitor you place elsewhere. So just the one extra piece--the board you slip under the mattress and that was easy enough to do. ETA: babycenter has it 45% off right now for the "basic" model which only has one parent monitor which is the exact same one I have. 9/18 and 10/17 are full moon days...

surftraitor thanks for letting us know that someone didnt like the video monitor. I really dont want to spend or have someone else spend that much money on something that is going to have crappy quality. baby boom eh? That explains why 9 out of 10 women I see at the store are also preggo..

Hi all!

Just a quick post from me, I noticed that the number of September mommies giving birth is really taking off. That means we are NEXT! Didn't I just get my BFP yesterday??? Now all of a sudden I'm feeling nervous and nauseous, wondering how the heck I'm going to handle everything.

Talked to my direct manager this morning and unless Bean decides to arrive way early or I take a sick day between now and then, my last day of work will officially be October 12th. I need to make sure to use all my vacation/sick time before the end of the year, and as long as the baby holds out until then there is no need to work later which is actually great since I think my actual due date is Oct 13th. I'm just hoping/praying I make it until at least October 10th so I miss year end at work :p so full moon stay away!!!

Scubasam: Thanks for the update, and glad to hear you are home again with Carter still in place!

Oh, and boy do I feel like a major b*tch. I got home from work yesterday and what was in the mail? The invite to my September 25th shower, and the invites were professionally done! I love my friends and feel terrible for saying anything about it yesterday. I'll blame it on the pregnancy hormones :o

Just popping in real quick for an update from today's Dr. appt!

Urine was clear
Gained 1.5 lbs since last appt. two weeks ago
Blood pressure was 112/68
Fundal height measured EXACTLY 32 weeks, right on track
Fetal heartrate was normal

As my Dr. said, I'm "sailing right along!" My 34 week appt. is in two weeks, on 9/8. I will have my Group B Strep test at my 36 week appt, so they gave me a pamphlet explaining that today. I feel really fortunate up to this point - I don't have any swelling & feel very good, in general. I hope it stays this way!

Also, my other Dr. had an 8 lb. 3 oz. baby girl on Tuesday! So happy for her. She was actually in labor during our childbirth class Monday night, so our instructor was able to call up to L&D to get an update for us at that time. I hope she's back so she can delivery my baby - I love her!

Scubasam: Whoa! I'm glad the baby is staying put. Sorry for your scare. :(

Monitors: We have the 27 channel Sony BabyCall, and that's all I'm getting. Having a large number of channels was important to me because there are SO many infants in our neighborhood - I want to be able to avoid cross talk on our monitor! No offense to any of you who are sold on the idea of the Angel Care monitor, but I think it's a bit over the top for us. It's a really clever & innovative product, don't get me wrong, but I've read that it's prone to false alarms. I don't need the kind of unnecessary stress that even ONE false alarm would bring.

My 10 year high school reunion was supposed to be tomorrow, but it got cancelled due to lack of interest. I'm actually not sad about that AT ALL! Now we have a free weekend to do whatever we want. DH & FIL are working on installing the ceiling fan in the nursery. It was supposed to be a quick job, but they started it last night & found out that the ceiling in the nursery isn't prepped to hold a fan yet. Why can't ANYTHING be easy?

Amen! That's why I plan to fight you for first! LOL! Plus, I really really really want to say "I told you so" when G2 is late, (message to G2: just a day, or an hour late, I don't mind, as long as I get to say "I told you so" to your mom, you know you want to help me out! LOL!)

I forgot, but I think Amanda's due date got bumped up to Sept too, we might have an all out war for who gets to go first. Honestly, we'll all be winners, as long as no one's too early :D

ETA - Heather - what was your new adjusted due date again? Sept 24 or something?

well my due date is funky. Dr says 9/25 based off of LMP. I say 10/1 based off of when I know we DTD/ovulated. u/s is dating me around 9/28-9/29 so to make it easier I've just decided to let my dr have 9/25 as my due date so it's less confusing even though the u/s dates me closer to "my" date. so if I go with the drs date labor day week I'm considered 37 weeks complete so I'm all for anything at the end of that week! :)

I don't know if you all recall that I was given the original due date of October 1-4th but my doctor changed it to September 24th during my 1st ultrasound. This Saturday, i am going to have my ultrasound to determine the size and position of the baby and maybe even once and for all determine my estimated due date.

adoredh- i actually am hoping that she'll go back to my original due date ;) don't get me wrong, i really am looking forward to meeting this little one of mine but was hoping to have more time to organize things. i am having my first internal this saturday. i'm supposed to be 36 weeks if i go by the september 24th due date. i'm really not looking forward to the exam, but i guess it must be done. i, too, have been having so many braxton hicks. it's been so uncomfortable for me, especially at night. i am so looking forward to next thursday---MY LAST DAY OF WORK! :D

i forgot to post this---i know that this is TMI but since we'd been posting about involuntary bodily fluids coming out, i literally thought that i had peed in my pants yesterday :eek: i was so surprised because i didn't even sneeze or anything. i quickly went into the bathroom and it wasn't as bad as i thought. i'm also positive that it's not my mucous plug. i still went ahead and put a pad on just to see if it will continue and it didn't. any of you had this sudden increase happen?

I'm normally pretty dry, (in fact, thought that would be an issue getting PG) but the last couple of weeks, I've also needed a pantly linner! Crazy, what our bodies put us through.

Speaking of something new -

every single time, and I mean every single time, I stand up, I feel a TON of pressure. Gravity is not my friend right now, it's very painful to walk for the first few moments... :rolleyes:

shushyk-- that crib is beautiful! we were going to go for a similar style originally but DH fell in love with the one we ended up getting. we have this deal that he gets to pick out the crib (still with my approval ;) ) and i get to pick out the beddings.

lex -- i'm glad that you had fun at your shower. how was the drive? i don't know if i posted on here that i had to cancel our shower at the san francisco bay area because i was having a ton of braxton hicks contractions that day (back n July) and MD highly suggested we don't go, even though she said i was perfectly fine :( :rolleyes: . she just thought that i would be uncomfortable with the drive and contractions. i was really looking forward to seeing college friends and family members, too. i'm glad that you got a lot of stuff for the baby. that's great that your work gave you a surprise shower! more stuff for ella.

adoredh-- i certainly will post how my appt. on saturday goes. i'm really curious to see how my baby boy is positioned at this point. last week, she said that he feels head down. we'll see if he stayed that way. he's been so active and just like you, i've been feeling extra pressure down there. what's annoying also is that everytime i hit a speed bump, i feel enormous pressure down there. i had to yell at hubby, even though i know he was driving extra slow for me.

we just finished putting the crib together! :D actually dh did all of the work. i just put the beddings on. it feels so good and we both can't help but feel excited! dh kept staring at the bed. he's so excited to meet his son! my tummy feels like a punching bag and as i'm typing there's 2 knobs sticking out of my sides. i have a feeling it's his feet. whenever i rub these two balls, he retracts and then pokes them out again. i can tell this kid is going to be one playful boy.

i'll try to post pics from our shower and the baby's crib but i have to wait for DH to upload our pictures.

Just wanted to update on today's appointment :)

Blood Pressure was great, no protein in urine, and I lost a pound! yay~ I thought for sure that I had at least gained 3! so that makes it 11 pounds so far. I am measuring @ 34 weeks now, so it looks like she is growing into herself now. Ill probably have another U/S at 36 weeks. Genevieve's heartbeat was nice and strong. Awww I love her~ :D
I think I am going to get my nails done tomorrow. I am so excited..its been so long.. I love doing girly things!

EJM Isnt that so awesome! I cant believe we are next either... It really does feel like we just got our BFP~ I cant believe how fast everything is moving along!

Wow, everyone has been chatty lately! I've been reading along but just don't have time for SOs with work.

I did find out I got the job in the town I live in, so I no longer will have the 2 hours of driving each day! Thank goodness....the gas money can be spent on daycare now!

We have got the crib up and our glider, but waiting on DH to make the dresser. I've washed up some hand me down boy clothes from my SIL. We start our childbirth classes next Monday....I'm actually getting excited for that.

rooming in - I'm really struggling with this one...part of me wants the baby with me in the hospital room, but then another part of me wants to get some sleep before I go home. I guess I'll play it by ear.

first baby - I'm going to vote for cartersmommy.

Who's Gonna Go First? I vote for adoredh.

Last night was our last childbirth class! It went really well. We discussed c-sections first. There wasn't much of anything she told us that I didn't already know, except if you have a prolapsed cord, the nurse that discovers it actually stays with you the entire time while they are prepping and doing the c-section, with her hand up your hoo-haa to keep the baby's head or whatever off the cord. LOL We also talked about recovery and post-partum issues for both a vaginal and a c-section birth. And then we did some breathing exercises, like transition breathing. And practiced some pushing positions. After that she quizzed the support people with a few scenarios that might come up during labor/delivery and they had to come up with the right kind of position or breathing technique for the scenario. Then we practiced those. After that class was over, and we got our certificates. We're graduates! LOL

Today was my work baby shower!! It was great, a small group but we got some cool stuff. LOTS of gift cards for Walmart and BRU, except the only problem is I have no clue how much is on them because everyone forgot to write that down!! LOL I'll find out somehow.

lorialys: Looks like you had a nice work shower! I work with a bunch of men, so the chances of that happening for me are slim to none. :rolleyes: I have a few girlfriends that I also work with, though, so I just invited them to my shower in two weeks.

Astara: Congrats on another good check-up! You're lucky you get another u/s - I won't have any other routine u/s unless something comes up that they need to check.

Has anybody had Braxton Hicks contractions that were uncomfortable enough to make you stop what you're doing? For the first time, I had 3 in a row last night after walking our dog. They were concentrated in my groin, so I was pretty certain that they were BH, but I was a little taken aback at how painful they were. I drank a glass of water & layed down, which seem to make them go away. I don't know....I guess I thought that BH weren't supposed to hurt that bad! Have a great weekend, everybody.

I have much more energy today and I will credit that to the burger I ate last night. It's amazing how much energy red meat gives me. It is seriously like night and day.. I forgot to eat it all week. oops. hopefully I'll do better this week.

shushy--I agree. The crib is very pretty and as someone who already had one in a crib the cost really doesn't matter-what matters is the safety and if you like it.

swollen ankles--anyone have a trick for this? Mine are actually bothering me and I"ve only been up for 3 hours. I have them propped up on my computer that is under my desk but is there anything else I can do for them? I didn't have this problem last pg because by now Colin was born plus it was winter.

heather--- i have the exact same problem, and my computer is my permanent foot rest also! i wish i had a cure of them also.... i drank TONS of water yesterday and that seemed to help somewhat, but other than that, i don't have a clue what to do. sorry they are bothering you! mine just always feel really tight.... not comfy.
yeah tight--that is kind of what they feel like--tingly and like they're going to burst or something. :( I'm going to try to drink more water today--right after I finish the pepsi I just bought for the caffeine I need to stay awake all day. I know caffeine is bad for retaining water but it's either that or fall asleep at my desk and I don't think my boss who sits right by me would appreciate that. ;)

Ankles - I've got a couple really big throw pillows for the bed that I tuck under the blankets at night - I stack them so they're pretty high. Then, I tuck two more extra pillows (smaller ones...just regular pillows) next to them for my knees. Then, I've got two pillows under my head, too. Basically, my side of the bed resembles a Craftmatic Adjustable Bed. It tends to keep the swelling at bay for the majority of the day, though if it is really hot and I've been outside or if I've been on my feet a lot, I can't fight the swelling.

shushy - I think that crib is really beautiful! Exposed hardware isn't a big deal, either. Some of the really expensive cribs have exposed hardware, too.

Astara - Enjoy the manicure!

Diane - I've had BH that made me have to stop and bend over at the waist. They were really uncomfortable, but not *painful.*

LDS Angel - thinking of you!

lorialys - congrats on graduating! your commencement ceremony will be held in a few weeks. ;) To find out how much those gift certs are for, there ought to be an 800 number on the gift card that you can call.

congrats to everyone who has their cribs put together. I'm still waiting on mine. It has now been almost 12 weeks. I was originally told 8-10 weeks and then it got bumped to 12-14 weeks. Beauty of it is that if we don't have the crib when the baby gets here, we're screwed because they don't offer refunds or exchanges. I've got 4-7 weeks left until she's here, so they better get on the ball or an angry mama bear will be up at their shop on a daily basis asking, "Where's my crib?" They aren't even answering the phone now.

First baby - I have no idea! Probably cartersmommy...aren't you due in September, Amanda?
Last baby - I'm gonna go with Tulip

I told DH the other night, "I think this baby will be here in September." He got a panicked look on his face and said, "Isn't that too soon?" I said, "Well, I am hoping if she does come in September it will be the last week in September. Then, I'll be 37 weeks and she'll be full term.

Only 4-7 more weeks of work!

lml-- my due date is really funky. my first initial date was october 2, then they did the 20 week u/s and he was measuring 2 weeks ahead, and so they moved my due date up to sept. 26th. then he's been measuring 2 weeks ahead until this LAST appt. when he was right on, and the dr. said, "he just doesn't want you to know when he's coming! he's going to be difficult!".... so there we go. could be september (the last of) or could be first of october. i'm hoping the end of sept. but who knows! :) unpredictable!!

My mom gets in to town tonight and my IL's tomorrow morning and brother and SIL tomorrow afternoon. Our shower starts at 3. It's expensive being with family. We spent over $250 on gas alone last weekend and then after taking family out to eat and getting our mother's hostess gifts we spent well over $500! Yikes. Oh well...I fell very lucky to be loved the way we are so $500 is nothing in comparison.

Ankles mine haven't really swelled up at all, a wee bit after walking, but that's it. I do have a suggestion though, that might help you out, try an Epsome salt soak in cold water. Feels good and should bring the swelling down. Epsome salt is great stuff! :D

DianeCourt I guess because I wanted a sliegh bed type of crib, this one I picked was really different when you compare them. but it matched the best to the existing stuff we had so I am super happy about it. And actually everyone else saying they have the same one is getting me excited for it to come in! I haven't really had PAINFULL B/H yet. I had some that were intense, but I don't think I would say they were painful. I have the most pain when I am trying to turn over in bed at night and I have to pee, I really feel it then.

lml41981 Yeah in my extensive search for a crib (and I DO MEAN very extensive ;) ) I did see that some of the more expensive cribs had exposed h/w and I thought that was dumb, they got the same rating as the one we bought. Like someone said, after all the search, all that mattered was it will look good in the room, and it was safe. So I am happy. Isn't the time flying by now?

LexyLou OMG did you have to put more stuff on your registry after that shower? Isn't it expensive having family. My aunt came out for a week, we ended up taking her here and there and to dinner... after a week I was like sheeesh good thing once the baby is here I wont be taking people OUT mostly hanging IN!

Thank you all for making me feel better about the crib. For those of you that said you had the same one, what mattress did you buy with it. I read on some reviews (and now I can't remember if it was for that crib or not) to make sure you get a certian sized mattress??

ankles Mine aren't so bad, but sometimes by the end of the night if I did a lot of walking they ache. I have DH give them a good massage (with lotion so it doesn't hurt) while keeping my feet up, that seems to work.

first to deliver No idea, I just can't believe we are talking about it already!!!

We got more presents this week!!! I am super excited. We got the diaper dekor, exersaucer, snap N go stroller, high chair, pNp, and the tub. The baby's room is all cleaned out. DH is going to finish painting the window treatment in there this week end. I ordered samples for the window treatment. (we are thinking of going with honey comb room darkeners) getting excited!!!

Yay! My crib was delivered to the warehouse this morning!!! I get to pick it up tomorrow. :)

Bad thing is that DH is working this weekend, so I might have to pick it up myself. If they will load it in my car, I can get a neighbor to take it out of my car when I get home. Then, of course, I will diligently take everything out of the box and look at it before DH gets home which will aggravate him because he won't know which piece he's looking for and where in the room I have placed it. At least that's how it worked when I took the Baby Papasan swing and bouncer out of the box. :p

no time for shout outs since i am supposed to be cleaning my house for our shower tomorrow. i voluntered our house since it is a nutreal spot, but right now i am kinda regreting it because i just can not get into cleaning right now. and i have a lot of it to do!
it will probably be a fairly small shower, maybe 10 people.
we got our first gift the beginning of this week. the tub side kneeler. and then yesterday we went to my dads house and they gave us their big gift early. we got our double stroller and carseat! yay. one expensive thing crossed off the list.

i have been cheating and checking our registry. i just can not help it. i did that with my dd's shower and our wedding. bad idea to be able to acess it so easily :)

ok i guess i should go try cleaning now.

ankles: Mine are still inflated. I was so discouraged in the BF class last night to look around the room of pregos with their feet propped up to see all their skinny ankles. I guess I should just appreciate the fact that I can still wear my rings. :o

BF class--wow, this was a long 2.5 hour class last night. At one point I looked over at DH who was asleep :eek: The video was this grainy british flick circa 1982--yikes. I've never seen so many ta-tas in my life and was shocked to hear that mine will double in size right after birth :eek:. I think DH is frightened too. This may cure him of being a "boob man", as I was a barely a b cup pre-prego. I felt like such a heathen when I asked about alcohol and nursing. But FYI--a glass of wine is fine. Multiple drinks you should probably "pump and dump"

update on prego friend with naughty DH--First, thanks to all of you for your advice. Apparently her DH wised up and realized a romantic dinner with his prego wife was more important than some work happy hour. Of course, she said he's having poker night tonight, but she can't put a leash on him (at least not in public). ;)

FYI--I created a thread in "parenting" looking for tips from other moms on how to get things done while caring for baby. There's a lot of great tricks of the trade that I will definitely try to use. Check it out.

surftraitor I’m doing the same thing you are for rooming in. Of course I won’t get much sleep anyways with the nurse waking me up every 2 hours, but it will be more than if the baby rooms in with me. So I guess that makes 2 of us selfish.

1 mommy Cleaning is one of things I’m terrible at putting off til the last minute. I think if our budget allows I’m hiring a maid service for right after the baby is born

organizing clothes I’m going to hang up all the outfits, tshirts and pants in the closet and organize by size. Then all of her bibs, onsies, socks, hats, etc I’m going to fold and put in her dresser drawers.

jh124 I apologize for the error I made about no one having their babies yet. I didn’t even know LDS Angel had her baby already. I missed about a week’s worth of posts right around that time and with the wc blackout I never really did get caught back up. Thank you for correcting me.

(I missed about a week’s worth of posts around that time) I just assumed you stopped coming in here as much because of the whole wc thing. My heart goes out to you and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Well, we have decided to go ahead and paint the nursery! I’m so excited because this will really pull the room together. (We weren’t sure if the landlord would ok it at first) We also bought a chair rail for the room that we’ll put about 3’ up. Above it is going to be a light/medium pink and below is going to be a lime-ish pastel color green. (It’s called Aloe Vera, to give a better idea) My dad and dh are going to work on that tomorrow. I also bought some premade corner shelves at Menards and painted them the same colors that will be on the wall. Dh had a friend make some vinyl graphics for the room as well. 3 of them are her name in white which we’ll put on the corner shelves, and then we also have frogs, flowers, and butterflies (to match the bedding) that we’ll put just above the chair rail every couple of feet or so.

I had a dr.s appt on Tuesday and everything went well. Up 1 ½ pounds in 3 weeks, for a total of 20.5. ( A lot better than the 9 pounds last month!) I’m measuring a week behind, which was reassuring to know that I won’t have a giganto 12lb baby. Now I go every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, then every week. Exciting I’m this far along already. I also really like this dr. She made me feel very comfortable even though it was the first time I had met her.

swelling--mine hasn't been that bad. i agree with everyone's suggestions. also what helps is cutting down on salty foods--which is hard for me because i love salty stuff.

i was so taken aback by my baby's movements today! they were so strong but no longer the tossing and turning. they're more in place but limbs that are poking. i feel like he loves my ribs (under my ribs) so much that he's almost scraping them :eek:

i got two of those swaddlers at my shower and i love them. they're so soft. i also got the same bath set from johnson's and johnson's with the cd lullaby. i have a 4 day weekend coming up and then next week it's work on wednesday and thursday then i'm off to maternity leave! i am so looking forward to it because there's so many baby related stuff i need to do.

shushyk: we are getting that same crib. MIL got us a gift certificate for the amount for our first shower, but I haven't ordered it yet because we will be getting a gift certificate for the matching dresser for the next shower so I will order both together.

hmbay: I don't have any problems with swelling and it might be due to this "strange" thing I do every day. I walk barefoot on tippy toes for about 10 minutes every day. I read that doing that every day would prevent any swelling in your feet or legs. So I have been doing this since I was about 5 months pregnant. Not sure if this only works to prevent swelling or if it will help once you already are swollen but it might be worth a try.

Sorry ladies.... I've been away all week. I'm starting to train my maternity leave replacement. She's my shadow, literally and physcially, so I don't want to go on-line while she's hovering over me :p

Just wanted to post that I have my next dr's appointment August 29 @ 2:45pm and my preassesment appointment at the hospital on September 6 @ 3:00pm Dave wants to come with me to the preassesment appointment because we can request a tour of the maternity ward.

Dave's aunt and uncle brought us part of the shower gift they got us on Thursday night. They bought us our crib mattress. The room is slowly getting there!!

and yes, I'm a registry lurker too... :o

okay ladies! i just came from my 36 week appt. and can i just say--SURPRISED was the word of the day. i was so surprised to hear how much my baby weighed. when hubby and i were on the road, i said my son would probably be around 5 pounds. nope! he is about 6lbs now and measuring around 36 weeks, which is right for a due date of september 24th. i couldn't believe when she said that i can potentially have an8 pounder baby :eek: . i know that these are all guesstimates but an 8 pounder!!!!. ladies, i'm just praying that my hips have expanded ENOUGH to accommodate this bundle of joy. (i am only 5'4" and weighed 105 lbs prepregnancy)

the good news is he is head down and he's pretty much occupying my whole belly. i was looking at my very first ultrasound at 8 weeks to now and he was literally a bean to now a 6 lbs baby! baby was also opening his eyes and staring at us during the ultrasound. he wasn't too happy when MD accidentally poked his nose with the doppler, though.

ADOREDh- she did not do my first internal. she will be doing that on friday, which is my next appt. september 2, 2005. my poor dr. is so busy right now. she's got moms delivering left and right. it's a good thing that her office is literally across the street from the hospital.

mcl I was about the same size as you pre pregnancy, so I can imagine how shocked you are! The ultrasounds have a margin of error of about a pound either way, so maybe the weight will be closer to 7?

Carter’s Mommy Dh and I recently went to Carter’s last weekend and spent way too much. All their stuff is just waaay to cute not to buy.

QOTD Does anyone really remember what they looked like pre-pregnancy? I was looking through some photos from last year and to me, the photos of me just really didn't look like me I almost had to do a double take and say, that's what my waist used to be like?

Dh and my dad got the room painted yesterday and the chair rail hung up. Now we just have to shampoo the carpets in there, dh has to clean out the closet, and then just put the room back together and hang the shelves we painted. Hopefully my dad will get the crib put together soon (he has it, just hasn’t set it up yet) so I can get the bedding out.

FIL and MIL came up Friday afternoon so we could help them pick out a laptop. We went to Sam’s Club and found one they liked, and then they also had to run to Target for some odds and ends. MIL asked us to show her the PnP we had a registered for. She said she wanted to make sure she knew which pattern we wanted, then she proceeded to take it off the shelf and put it in her cart. Totally shocked Dh and I. She got us a bunch of other goodies too. Here’s what we got:

She also got us sheets for the PnP. I have heard that they aren't very soft, so I thought about washing them a couple of times first with fabric softener, but something tells me you aren't supposed to do that. Does anyone else know if this is true or not?

QOTD Funny you should ask... after taking the 32 wk belly shot, I looked at the past ones and saw my 7wk shot (my first one) and remembered how "fat" I thought I was at that time.

Chad & Liz: How nice of your MIL & FIL! I've also heard that Graco's Pack n' Play Sheets aren't the softest. I registered for portable crib sheets from Koala Baby @ BRU instead - I read that they're softer & less expensive. Anyway, I don't know why you couldn't wash yours in a mild fabric softener - shouldn't hurt at all! Let us know what you think about them after you wash 'em & put 'em on.

dragonfly: I'm glad your shower was a such a success, considering the weather down there. You got LOTS of nice stuff - how exciting! I've heard those Fisher Price high chairs are the best. :) I like your Jungle Plaid one the best out of all of them.

It's a lazy Sunday! We got all of our carpets & couches professionally steam cleaned yesterday, so I'll probably spend the day putting the house back together. Enjoy the rest of your weekends! I have a 4 day weekend coming up next week for Labor Day - yippee!

we had our baby shower yesterday and more people than i thought showed up, which was nice.
we got alot of really nice things. people are so genereous!
all that we have left to buy now is the crib, dresser, and bedding. yay!! and we got 250 dollars worth of gift cards to babiesrus. so that should help us get a start. now that i have all these clothes, i am thinking we are getting the dresser first so i can wash and put away all the clothes.
and now dh is super excited about kai being here, he wants him here NOW. i told him he has to wait til oct. no way is he allowed to show up early. :)
kaimi was really good at the shower. she had lots of people to keep her busy :) 1 person was even nice enough to bring her a gift.

Hi ladies,

We had another great weekend and shower. Our friends got us some of the cutest clothes and other things.

We got another Pack N Play this weekend. We have one that we are leaving up in the Bay Area with our mothers and then one for down here.

We also got a beautiful toy box filled with Lamaze and Baby Einstein toys.

Then I got my Fleurville Sling Tote in Pink Stripe. I love it!

A bunch of clothes, cute blankets, a safetey kit, some Baby Einstein videos, etc.

Anyway, it was wonderful. Hope you all had a nice weekend too.

Astarta We painted the top 2/3 or so a medium-light pink (it's called jaguar rose) and then we painted the bottom 1/2 or so sort of a merigue-y / lime green (it's called Aloe Vera) We hung a chair rail in between the colors as a divider. Dh also had a friend make some vinyl decals of a frog a butterfly, and a flower and put them every few feet just above the chair rail along the wall. Now we just have the dresser and possibly the crib left to paint. This is probably way more info than you wanted to know ;) so I'll quit rambling now.

lex Glad you had a nice weekend and shower. Sounds like you got some great stuff.

Well, dh and I didn't get as much done as we would have liked this weekend, but still got quite a bit done. Our bedroom is a disaster right now because the nursery before hand was basically an overflow room of what didn't fit in the rest of the house, and now it's in our bedroom :rolleyes: Chad still has to clean out his closet and dresser, and then I can finally put away Daytona's stuff instead of letting it sit in bags on the floor.

I don't think I'll be going to work today (it's about 1:45am on Monday) I feel sh*t and now I can't sleep. Saturday I went to bed and felt totally fine, Sunday I woke up-still fine. About 2 hours after I woke up, I started sneezing and getting a runny nose. I figured it was probably from all the dust and such that we stirred up while moving everything around, or my sinuses. Either way, it usually leaves just as fast as it comes. Now my nose is completly stuffed up and I can't breathe thru it, so I have to breathe thru my mouth, causing my throat to be raw. Dh was nice enough to look up what medicine I can take and run to the store to get me some benadryl, but I should have had him grab me some cough drops. I still may run to the store and get some tonight. I think I have caught a bad cold. Oh what I would give for some nyquil right now :(

amtaylor: I'm so glad to hear you like the glider! I have heard bad things about jardine gliders but I sat in quite a few of them at BRU and I really couldn't tell a difference between this one and the expensive models. So I just couldn' justify a glider that costs double or even triple!

cartersmommie: I've seen the crib and dresser on display at BRU and I thought they look fantastic. I'm glad you like yours! I know it looks great with the believing in dreams bedding you picked because that is what they had in it!

chad and liz: cool stuff! gotta love the inlaws! Sorry to hear about your cold. I had one last week and it wasn't fun!

astara: yes we were once again so lucky to miss this monster of a storm but I feel terrible for the people who will get hit!

Good morning girls! I won't be able to do S/O's at all this week, it's our last week at work. I really am not enjoying the stress right now, but I think The Boy and I are handling it so far, pretty well :)

I did want to share that Target sucks at their registry, and that my family is amazing! LOL! I got a ton of things off our registry from Target (only a couple from BRU - but that's because there's only one in our area and most people have a Target near by) DH and I got our convertible car seat, stroller, FP travel swing, FP bouncer, Dr Brown's bottles, Advent bottles, crib bedding set (all but the bumper and matching curtains) a TON of Carter's clothes, and I mean a ton! (two carter's blankets too, so cute!) baby spoons, toddler spoons, sippy cups, bottle brushes, dish washer caddy, the diaper bag I wanted (small messenger bag from BRU) a personalized piggy bank for The Boy, diaper organizer, and just more then I can try to remember! It took our SUV filled to the top, and FIL's truck to bring everything home! Once it was in the baby's room, we could hardly walk in the room! It took me ALL day yesterday to put everything away and to wash all the clothes!

issue of the day: ACID coming up in my throat! it's a HORRIBLE feeling! i was awake with it several times last night, and it's still around this morning! ususally when i get up and am not lying down it goes away, but not today. UGH i have already taken 3 rounds of rolaids too.... not helping!

this weekend was good... didn't do much other than clean yesterday and do some laundry. i think next weekend i will wash Carter's clothes and get that done so that when he comes it's taken care of. i also need to start packing my bag for the hospital. it dawned on me yesterday that i'm 35 weeks today and it really could happen any time! UGH! where did all the time go?!?! it seems just like yesterday i was excited for our first u/s, now it's anticipation of delivery and meeting the baby! wow, how things change!! :)

Hi ladies,
Sounds like everyone is doing well, and the showers are keeping everyone busy busy busy. Our other two showers are not until September 15th (my work) and September 25th (our friends), and I'm trying to restrain myself from buying further supplies/clothes until then. It's tough :p , but then again I don't need every green and yellow outfit ever produced.
We had a relaxed weekend, well I did anyway, DH has a final and group project this week and then I have him for 3 whole weeks. He's actually taking next week off of work to do things around our place to get ready for the baby. Yeah, I cannot wait to get more stuff crossed off my list.
We are now halfway through our childbirth classes. We also met with our doula last night to discuss our birth plan -- she said it is most helpful for it to focus on baby care/post birth rather than labor/delivery aspects. I now have tons of questions at my next ob appointment regarding not going to the hospital right away if my water happens to break first. DH and I would like for me to labor at home as much as possible. And really until I'm in active labor at 4 or 5cm, they won't keep me at the hospital anyway. No point in rushing there to have to turn around and go home. I'm also now thinking about turning down internal exams (minus the GBS test) so I don't get my hopes up early. Although I'm not married to a natural birth, it has been great getting the non-doctor/hospital perspective on things. If nothing else, it has given us the reasons behind why various procedures are done or drugs administered.

I'm loving all the early belly shots! I thought I was so bloated at 5-7 weeks, what was I thinking??? :rolleyes:

chad and liz -- I'm dealing with the same thing but I'm pretty sure mine is my fall allergies that have flared up early since we had a few cool days last week. It got better after a couple days but I'm still stuffy and blowing my nose but I can at least breathe at night.

Alisha--I have the same convertable car seat for Colin. The straps are a bit of a pain but nothing you can't deal with and he seems comfy in it (plus it's half the price of the Britax) and the straps you just learn to deal with.

well one more week and I'm FT! :) Generally feeling good although having various aches and pains and all but nothing I"m too worried about. Although we have yet to pick a name. We agreed to quit talking about it until 37 weeks so that has been on my mind a lot lately--that 37 weeks is Sunday so we MUST pick a name soon....

Good morning everyone!

We had our last baby shower this weekend and got a lot of great stuff. I think our baby girl is pretty much ready to go now. We got our PNP, bouncer, a smaller diaper bag, sheets, bumper, and a ton of blankets and clothes. We had our vehicle stacked full on our ride home.

DH and I also picked up our crib this weekend. We put it together as soon as we got home last night. I love it! Now we just need to get the mattress and we should have everything that we need. Putting the crib together made everything really seem that much closer. I can't believe that we will be having babies in this thread within the next month! It seems like we all just started this process together.

I am still feeling pretty good, besides the back pain. I had to quit wearing my wedding ring today though. My fingers usually swell up throughout the day so even though I can wear my ring in the morning, I am scared that I will have to take it off sometime during the day and end up losing it. So, the wedding ring stayed home this morning. I feel so naked without it. I think I am going to have to go buy a cheap ring somewhere just so I feel like I have something.

We had our surprise shower yesterday :D And I was shocked!! I am not an easy person to surprise, and they got me good. I didn't have a clue until I opened the door.

We got a bunch of stuff... clothes, swing, bouncer, bathtub, wipes, wipe warmer, 2 diaper bags, blankets (some homemade), stuffed animals (some homemade), books, toys, bottles, bottle liners, etc. Things we didn't get that I was hoping we would was our travel system, exersaucer, diaper champ, crib sheets and changing pad.

Some things we received two or three of. I think some people don't understand what a registry is all about. We actually got the same rattle 7 times :eek: It wasn't on our registry, but I guess a lot of people thought it was cute.

I have been so good not buying anything for our baby. Now I can finally go on a shopping spree. :D

These pics are already outdated though since I bought some vintage hangers for the wall shelf since and also finished decorating the hutch. I'm still waiting on the darn glider to put in that corner and then I'll decorate the little table with a lamp, etc and hang a print or something...but this gives you and idea of where we are at. I LOVE this room. I cannot wait for it to be done.

I can't remember if I mentioned that my work also had a surprise shower for me last week. I was TOTALLY surprised. They got together and gave me a $200 gift card to Amazon.com. So generous. I can't believe it. I wasn't expecting a thing from work.

cartersmommy-Here's the diaper bag. It's the Fleurville Sling Tote. I love it because it's not as big as the Mothership (which is a beast) but still large and has a ton of pockets, etc. It also has clips to attach to your stroller.

Pump parts: I forgot to mention this in my earlier post. We were discussing breast pumps with the doula last night and I mentioned that our insurance does not cover rental/purchase of one. We are getting a hand me down from my sister, but I was going to purchase new parts for it. Long story short, she suggested asking for them at the hospital before we leave because some insurance will cover it if it included in the huge hospital bill (rather than if I bought it and tried to get reimbursed). I think a few of us were borrowing one, so if you haven't purchased the new accessories I wanted to share the tip.

Wow, you guys have had some great showers!!!!! Congrats on such generosity! We had our last shower a week ago and yesterday I went to Babies R Us and purchased some of the smaller items that I thought would be nice to have in the first month or so (really exciting stuff like nipple cream and breast pads LOL ). We have two more trips/vacations and then we're home until the Dude is here and I must say that I'm looking forward to being a home for a while; I'm starting to get/feel really big and its beginning to be uncomfortable. pump parts--interesting. My insurance wouldn't pay for the pump rental (rented a hospital grade one for 2 months since Colin was premature then I switched to my Ameda) but you know they did give me a kit at the hospital to use while I was there with a pump they brought me from the nursury since I had to pump to stimulate my supply since colin couldn't nurse. I took the kit home with me and I don't ever remember being asked by my insurance to pay for that over and above my "hospital copay" so EJM may be right. if your hospital will give you one I"d give it a try. :)

Anyone else annoyed to be at work today?! :mad: These next 5 weeks are going to be crabby ones for me. I'm just hating being here. Anyone who's probing me for info, asking me to attend 2+ hour meetings, expecting me to work through lunch is really on my $hit list. I'm this close to lifting my shirt, scaring them with my belly and telling them I have better things to do. Attitude needs major adjustment.

Adding to crabbiness is our last parenting class tonight from 6:30-9. I want to skip out, but DH is insisting we go. WTF? I just want to go home, curl up in one of the few pairs of sweatpants that still fit and veg out. :( I'm over all the class BS.

Lots of cute lookin' bellies in here. We still have internet issues at home, so I haven't been able to load. I think they're coming to fix this week. I was looking at a wedding picture of ours and can't believe how skinny I look. Will that body ever exist again?

showers--congrats to all on their great stuff. I had a small shower with my girlfriends yesterday. Got lots of cute outfits, blankets, play mat, etc. I won't put photos in here, as you've all probably seen most of this stuff. My shower was so great since it was only 6 of us at a restaurant. It was great to catch up with everyone. Additionally, most of them have babies so they all bought stuff that their children liked as tots.

acid reflux--my father has it, so I called my mom and she said the doctor advised him to avoid eating late at night, hard alcohol (no problem there :) ) and try to avoid pork products as they seem to inflame the acid as well. Hope this helps, cartersmommy

Our last class is Wed, and DH and I already made plans to skip it, if we didn't, every night this week I would have had stuff to do after work (instead of curling up in sweatpants, I'm so there with you!) I am beyond tired today, and think I'm also going to skip dinner plans with friends. I can barely stay awake right now, I'm so very very tired!

Our son was attempting a jail break last night, by punching, kicking, pulling, pushing on my ribs. I'm so sore and so tired and so crabby, and I really don't want to be at work. I can't stand that this is our last week here, and I am feeling the stress from getting everything ready to move (client files, personal files, the list goes on) only to move from my current cubie to a teeny tiny desk with no walls. Ugg - can I start maternity leave now? :(

Yes, I am so not in to work either. I'm just tired and by 2 pm I need a serious nap. Saturday night (Sunday morning) I woke up at 1:30 am and couldn't fall asleep again until 4:30 am...not happy. Plus, Ella loves to press her heels really far in to my ribs. Talk about painful.

I have 2 more weeks of full time and then Sept 12-16 I'll come in 3 or 2 1/2 days and work from home for two and then the next week I'll come in for 2 and then I'm on full maternity leave.

I think this will be the slowest two weeks in history. :)

cartersmommy: I've found the best heartburn relief for me is to watch what I eat & drink milk with my meals. If I have anything remotely spicy now, I can guarantee that I will suffer the consequences. Sometimes you just have to do it, though! Oh, and Tums. I am a Tums eating fiend now. :(

surftraitor & adoredh: I feel your pain with the weekday evening classes. Our final class was last Monday night, and DH & I were talking all weekend about how excited we were to NOT have to run around like crazy people after work today. It's a hard thing to do when you're 8 months pregnant & just plain tired!

I don't feel like working, either. Ugh. Aren't Mondays are the worst? I broke down & decided to use one of my vacation days this Friday so I can have a four day weekend. I was going to save it to add on to my maternity leave, but I just feel like I need a day to myself right now. So on Friday I'm getting my hair done at 1 PM and shopping for a dress to wear to my next shower after that. Sounds MUCH better than work! ;) Speaking of maternity leave, I don't know for sure when I'll start mine, but it depends on when my Doctor will write me a note to release me from work. Ideally, I'd like to stop at 37 weeks, but I think that 38 weeks is more realistic. The biggest thing is that I just can't concentrate anymore, between the physical things that are happening with my body, and the fact that this baby is consuming all of my thoughts, all day long! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it - it's all I can think about. I'm sure you all can relate.

DH & I will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary coming up on 9/14, and I think I'm getting an early birthday present around that time, too. I still do not have a digital camera, and I've been wishing for one for some time. And I'm terrible because I don't just want ANY digital camera, I want the digital version of the Canon EOS Rebel that I have now. Anyway, my b-day is two days before my due date & I've dropped plenty of hints to let DH know that it would be nice to get a digital camera before the baby comes. I think he's been listening because he told me to ignore any packages that MAY arrive on our front porch this week. He told me he got a surprise for the baby, but I'm on to him! I had my appointment with the dietician this morning at 7:30am. I'm monitoring my blood sugar level 4 times a day for a week then I'll be re-evaluated as to whether I need insulin or not. The diet changes were really not as bad as I thought. Wish me luck!

acid is still here after 4 rounds of tums and a zantac..... and a banana to try and absorb it..... UGH! dr. appt. tomorrow... do we think they can give me anything to get rid of this????
Yes! The doctor can give you stuff to help. I have been on Tagamet since 20 weeks because they thought maybe my m/s was caused by acid reflux (m/s was helped, but not stopped by the Tagamet). My tip: don't take it right before you go to bed, give it time to get active...otherwise you will find yourself sitting up and gagging on acid. It is not pleasant and I totally feel your pain.

Congrats to everyone who had showers this weekend. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves. :)

We got our crib on Saturday and what the ordeal it was to get it! We paid...a lot...for this crib because we wanted a convertible that would last for years and years (we plan for this to be the only bed we purchase for DD), had a spring mattress support system and a drawer underneath. We also wanted a single drop side and no solid pieces...I mean our demands were pretty specific. When you pay a lot, you really, really expect good customer service. I didn't expect the crib to take 2 extra weeks to arrive, not that it was a big deal...but don't tell people 8-10 if you know it will be 12. Then, I called to schedule a time for pickup and the woman took my cell number and said she'd call me if there was a problem but to show up 9:30-10:00 on Saturday morning. We showed up, but there was nobody to be found. We called and she told DH that she told me to call her to set up a time. DH said, "Why would she have needed to call you since you two agreed on 9:30-10:00?" They had also assured us that the crib would fit in the back of our X3. When she *finally* got there at 11:15, we had to unpack the crib from the box and load it piece by piece into our car. We got the crib home and DH assembled it yesterday. We noticed that there is a little bit of damage...that really annoys us, but it isn't a big deal, I guess. It isn't really visible, so we're the only ones who know it is there...but still, after paying so much, you expect it not to have a chunk of wood missing. Also, DH eventually got so frustrated by the directions (and me for insisting he read the directions) that he ended up pitching them and just putting it together without them. They were *very* badly written directions.

I don't have photos of the assembled bed yet, but I'll take some tonight. MIL is still working on the crib bedding...we ought to have that by the 11th.

numb/tingly at top of stomach: YES! it's such a weird sensation!! and my acid feels kinda cold and burning at the same time, and it sits like a lump in the bottom of my throat. no fun... but it sounds like thats what you're experiencing! ick. i have been wondering what that tingly feeling at the top of my tummy was!! too weird!

can someone describe what the acid feeling feels like. i have been getting this huge lump like feeling in my throat/very top of my chest for a while now. and it gets really uncomfortable. nothing makes it go away.

also....anyone getting a numb tingly sensation at the top of their stomach. it is almost like the asleep feeling?
Basically, acid reflux (or heartburn) feels like your throat and chest are on fire. It also tastes horrible...like stomach acid, if you've ever thrown up stomach acid. One particularly bad morning, acid reflux hit and I felt like I was choking and gasping for breath...I took very shallow breaths because it felt like the stomach acid had burned me or something and the air going past it was painful. I actually felt like I had to drink cold, cold water to put out a fire. It was incredibly scary.

Sorry, I have not felt the numb, tingly sensation. Baby is probably laying on a nerve or something, though. That'd be my guess. ;)

Hi ladies!

Just about to run off to my dtr's appt - f/u appt for the little hospital visit I had last week. I'm not allowed to return to work until seeing the OB so I was off Thurs & Fri but decided to come into work for 2 hrs since work is 1/2 way between home & the doc. Anyway, I'll come back after my appt to catch up but wanted to comment on the acid reflux.....I'm soooo sorry some of you are experiencing it too!! It totally sucks!!! :( Couple things that I've done that help most of the time......1) Doc gave me a prescrip for Ranitidine, which is the main ingredient of Zantac Maximum Strength 150mg, which you can get OTC. He said that it's the strongest thing he can give me that's baby friendly. Oh, and the 75mg Zantac does absolutely nothing. I also live on Tums....2) Absolutely no food or beverage after 8pm. A little milk if I get thirsty or a swig of water when brushing my teeth but that's it.......3) Bland foods. I feel like I'm back in the 1st tri b/c I've been eating mostly pasta, rice, bread, creamy sauces, etc. ;) but it is better than eating things w/ too much flavor.....and 4) I generally take the Ranitidine first thing when I wake up and then around 6pm. It helps to wait about 45 min after taking it before I eat anything.

Don't know if any of that helps/would help any of you but after a few weeks of suffering it's the best system I've figured out. *Although* having the baby drop last week has also helped a TON!!! ;)

QOTD - Answer: I take Zantac for my acid reflux. It works pretty well and is approved by my OBGYN. I also find drinking a glass of milk helps quite a bit. You should also avoid greasy foods, spicy and tomato-based foods like spaghetti sauce. Orange juice also triggers mine with the acid in oranges. I also try not to eat late at night. I suffered an ulcer last fall and know a lot about acid reflux. It sucks and it certainly is NO FUN! Concentrate on your diet and what you are eating and this should help out a little bit.

I had a doctor's appointment last week and was still measuring ahead by 3 1/2 weeks. So the doctor ordered an ultrasound and we had that this morning. According to the ultrasound tech, the baby is measuring right on schedule, so who knows why I measure so far ahead with each visit. It was so neat to see the baby! We never had a true ultrasound before. I now want to meet this little baby so badly!

Another QOTD - The ultrasound tech estimated the baby's weight to be about 6 pounds, 1 ounce. IS THIS BIG?
I mean, I was 6 pounds, 12 ounces and I was a week late.
Is 6 pounds big for 35 weeks along?
I need your opinions please!
Will I deliver a large baby?
Who knows.

We have our next doctor's appointment on Wednesday, September 7th. Our doctor should let us know his thoughts then.
He said if the ultrasound showed a big baby, we would look at inducing me at 38 weeks. I will also have the Strep B test - Does anyone know what this involves? I need to do some reading on the internet.

I had another shower today that was hosted by my co-workers. It was such a nice one! I received so many nice gifts. Our pack and play was purchased - what a relief!

Whoever mentioned that they were sick of working, I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU! How are we going to make it for another month or so? I am so ready to have this baby and be done with everything!

I'm on a scrip called Aciphex - I was on OTC Rantidine prior to pregnancy, and I was approved to take that the first trimester, the second tri - it did absolutly nothing for me. Acid reflux got so bad, that anything I ate or drank, including water, came right back up. After having the water come up so fast twice that I inhaled it and choked for over a half hour each time, they switched me to Aciphex which is also safe during PG. I now only have the reflux, not the acid, so while I still deal with that, at least it doesn't burn! Huge difference in my personality after getting that scrip! Prior to that, I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat hardly anything, and I was miserable 24/7 - now I'm a happy gal! :D

I truly feel for you gals! It makes a huge difference in your day to day life, if you can get rid of that acid! Call your OB's!

acheese - u/s measurements are notoriously wrong this late in pregnancy. Don't worry! You aren't having an elephant baby, I promise. Your doctor can actually get a better guess as to the baby's weight by feeling your abdomen.

Just checking in again. My cold hasn't gotten any worse, but it hasn't gotten any better either :( My work called me today to let me know that I'm really not supposed to miss any work in the first 60days (i've only been there about a month or so) and that this was my 2nd occurance (one day I was late due to a dr.'s appt) She asked if I was coming in tomorrow and I told her that I would try to make it in. She basically said that if I didn't come in, then they could (not definately, just maybe) let me go. At this point I really don't feel like doing anything. Even watching tv is a struggle. I guess I will try to make it in, and then they will actually see how sick and miserable I am and hopefully give me the ok to go home.

Just a heads up-gas prices are going to sky rocket overnight tonite so I would fill up on your way home from work tonight. I'm guessing probably about 20cents a gallon, but that's just a guess

Ditto on not feeling like working anymore. Even when I wasn't sick, I would count down the hours til I got to go home from the time I walked in the door. Now I just want to be able to breathe.

Wow, what awesome shower gifts everyone is getting! I can't wait to have mine in a few weeks. My mom crocheted me three blankets already and a little sweater for the baby. Last night DH put up the shelves he made for me in the babies room. I put diapers, wipes, vaseline, alcohol wipes, thermometer, hand sanitizer, kleenez and disposable gloves (yes, I'm going to wear disposable gloves if the diaper is too messy for my tastes...I know it is my child and it shouldn't bother me...but geez, I can't handle the thought of getting any poo on my hands. eek!) up on the shelves.

RAISING HAND....yes, I'm hating work right now too. I have even started a countdown and I tell DH everyday how much longer until I start maternity leave. I count the hours at work and I'm pretty much in the "I don't care" stage now. Considering I can't fit into half my maternity clothes anymore, I have a limited number of outfits for work. I really don't give a fiddly-fly-f*** if I wear the same outfit every week. My DH said to me, "hey didn't you just wear that outfit last week." Uh, yes I did and I don't give a cr#p a## about it. I need some major attitude adjustment as well. Also need to start working on my potty mouth before baby gets here. :rolleyes:

We have our first childbirth class tonight. I don't like the part of having to bring a pillow and blanket to get comfortable. (Hello, I'm 6 weeks from delivering this baby....I shouldn't have to be sitting on the floor...they should have a recliner for me to sit in and prop my feet up. Again, another example of how I need my attitude adjusted.)

Oh, and while I'm at it, if one more person asks me "how are you feeling?" I'm going to slug them. I feel like cr#p, ok!! I can't sleep, my feet are swollen, my back hurts. Geez, some people.....

I can't even begin to catch up on the shout outs but I want to say "hi" to everyone. :D All of your showers look like so much fun..ours are in early September, one is going to be an evening cocktail party and the other is more of the traditional shower.

I went back to work today after my five week summer break and let me just tell you I am on count down..even though I am working as close to my due date as possible, stupid school district uses all of my sick days first and then my half time sick days etc. We don't pay into state disabilty (I recently learned this) I would rather use them after she is born.
However I did have a huge reality check. The teacher that is due two weeks after me, has had to go into L&D 4 times over the past 2 weeks because she keeps getting contractions (6 or more per hour)...her doctor has put her on total bed rest and if it continues she will be in the hospital until her baby comes. She can't come back to work, see above complaint about school district policy regarding her pay situation AND she and her DH just bought a house..I feel so bad for her. And here I was last night complaining about being head butted in the rib cage while being kicked in the belly button, Kaelyn's favorite new game to play :rolleyes: I think she is also exploring my ribs with her hands...

Anyway I am off to put my super swollen cankles up..I am so glad Tony has a work dinner tonight because I am in NO mood to cook dinner ;)

work--hmm I hate getting up every morning when I'm exhausted but I'm really trying to finish up a project before G2 appears--it could mean the difference between a promotion by the end of the year or a promotion by the middle of next year. So no I'm not really hating work. Hating I'm tired and all but my work has been fantastic about everything so although I'd like to be home in bed and it's getting more uncomfortable to sit there all day I'm still happy to be going. I figure another week or two and that project will be done or at least to a stage someone else can do the last minute tweaks and get it into production after the user testing (I'm a software developer).

Back from the doc's.......essentially all is fine and he ok'd me going back to work but only on a part-time or work-from-home situation b/c I'm still having a lot of contractions when I'm walking/standing too long. Since I'm pretty sure my boss (who's been out of town and has therefore missed the whole hospital visit drama) will tell me exactly the same thing tomorrow, I guess I'm going to count my blessings and enjoy my time at home. I'm with all you guys on hating work right now but I am also not really excited about being at home because I tend to go a little stir crazy. Don't get me wrong though, I am so grateful to even have that option - to have such an amazing boss who only has my best interest at heart and probably won't even make me use any of my vacation hours until the baby actually arrives.

Anyway, the doc said the baby is definitely pretty low and he's guessing that Carter's about 4.5 lbs right now. He said that they're not concerned if I go into labor because all the major developing is done, baby's just adding fat to his bones at this point. Alrighty then!

At this point, we're pretty much ready however much we can be. After being scared out of our minds last week (lol!) we packed ours and the baby's bags, getting the infant seat installed at the hospital tomorrow, picked up the crib & changing table today (yay...finally!!), have washed blankets, bassinet sheets & 0-3 mo clothing, etc.

Going back a bit....looonng overdue SO's!

shushyk - Love the crib! It's beautiful regardless of what it cost! Can't wait to see it all together w/ the bedding, etc! And yay for the great gifts you got!

mcl - Yay for getting the crib put together! And you're almost on maternity leave...yippee!

DianeCourt - Um, yah, painful/uncomfortable BH's.....yep! Had 5 just this morning, all w/i about 20 min. I was about to think that they were real b/c they were so consistent but then just completely stopped. But yes, sometimes have to catch my breath w/ them. BTW, I really hope you get the Canon Digital!! We have the regular EOS and got the new 8mp Canon Rebel a couple months ago - it is awesome!!! The best part is that you can use the lens' from the non-digital on the digital. It takes great pics and we've been really happy with it. I'm crossing all crossables that you get to have one too! ;)

Lex - Awesome showers that you've had! You guys are truly loved! Loving the chandelier - the nursery has turned out so beautiful! Ella will love being in there. Love the shower pics too - you look great! And I hear ya on the expense of having family in town - we end up spending so much everytime my family comes to visit...I swear it'd be cheaper to go visit them....and they live across the country!

adoredh - Yay for your work shower as well! Great stuff! I have the Baby Papasan too - it's so cushy - I can't wait to put the baby in it! And I agree that Target's registry sucks. I ended up completely deleting mine b/c everytime I went online to change something, they had deleted something or added on something that I hadn't registered for......like the one time there were 4 pink things on there and I'm having a boy! Love the Triumph - we got one of those too!

1_mommy - We did the same thing and used our home for the co-ed bbq/shower.....it was so nice not having to cart gifts home but on the other hand it sucked to do all the cleaning beforehand! Glad you had a great time and got such great stuff!

Chad & Liz - So cool that the landlord is allowing you guys to paint! And chair rail looks so nice - you'll have to post a pic so we can see how it turned out! And yah, I was just thinking the other day about my pre-pg body.....how I'm ready for it to be back. And score for the goodies FIL & MIL got you! So sorry about the cold you have though!

hmbay: I feel the same way you do about work. I am uncomfortable and would rather be in bed but I don't hate it and I'm also still happy to be going. I think it's also because I recently started doing a different thing. I was underwriting auto policies for the longest time and I got really burned out on that so recently I started underwriting homeowners policies and I totally love it. I don't care much about cars but I love looking at houses (watch Househunters almost every night). So this is much more interesting which keeps me going.

scubasam: Wow, can you imagine you could meet little Carter any day now! I still have about 7 weeks to go but this is making it seem very close!

34 weeks today! I can't believe I've only got 6 weeks left till my due date and Lucas could be here in 2-3 weeks possibly

Not even going to attempt to do shout-outs! I’ll pick up from here, I think.

Back from a long weekend away from the computer! Ben and I went to Atlanta on Friday for our family baby shower. My MIL and FSIL threw it, and it was lots of fun! My MIL had to do some of the cheesy baby shower games, but I was able to talk her out of the really gross and messy ones, thank goodness. The good thing was, all the game prizes went to us. And there was a book that everyone passed around to write a little note to Lucas. And they wrote “inspirational” sayings on diapers for those 3 am changings. Very cute! My MIL made the cake for the shower (she’s been working in a bakery for the past year) and it was gorgeous. I have pictures, but they’re at home on my camera so I’ll have to upload a few of them a bit later.

We also got a lot of gifts, but just a few were things off our registry. Here’s some of what we got from our registry:

Baby monitor, disposable nursing pads, breast cream, closet organizer, shelf with bins for the nursery, Tiny Love Gymini playmate, Lamaze musical inchworm, Fisher Price aquarium, and a foldable storage bin.

In addition to this we got a lot of clothes, some in smaller sizes and some in larger sizes. This kid almost has more clothes than me now! And a bunch of bibs, which is great because I only had a few of those before. Some washcloths and towels, shoes/booties, and hats (mostly matching with outfits). A photo album, a baby book, a silver coin bank, and some small items like baby powder, desitin, baby wash, etc. Some little stuffed toys with teething chews on them, and one lady made a gift with a whole bunch of diapers, wipes and the small necessities all in a storage bin. Not to mention, the prizes for the games we had at the shower all went to us, so there’s a lot of little stuff like pacifiers and spoons and thermometers.

We actually got three of the closet organizers!!! And out of everything that we got from both showers, we only got like three gift receipts :rolleyes:. So I could only take back one of the closet organizers (which was a gift from FSIL, who happened to have the receipt on her). My MIL and FIL also bought our highchair, which was already bought by Ben’s coworkers last week. When they went to Target on Thursday to purchase it, they were told that it had not been bought yet. Which is so not the truth, because it came off the registry early last week. So I am NOT pleased at all with Target. Sure enough, on our registry for the highchair is says “Want 1” “Got 2”. Grrrr!! Same thing for the closet organizers. Anyways, we went to Target and Babies R Us Sunday, returned the duplicate highchair and closet organizer at Target and got the Baby Bjorn in city black and the Avent On the Go pump set.

Then we went over to Babies R Us to get the rest of the stuff we needed off the registry and can only find at BRU, since we don’t have one in Savannah. With all the gifts from the shower in the trunk, we filled up the entire backseat with this stuff:

Snugride in Colby, Ocean Wonders aquarium swing, Symphony In Motion mobile, Eurobath, 2 Ultimate Crib Sheets, navy Pack ‘N Play sheet, cream and Light blue changing pad covers, and cabinet locks. This morning I checked our registry to take all this stuff off and I noticed that our Diaper Champ was bought by someone! Not sure who, but it’ll be a surprise when it arrives.

So the only real necessities we have left on the registry are our convertible carseat, which we could wait to get anyways, and our stoller. We’ll go get the stroller next weekend sometime from TRU and use our giftcard from the other shower to go towards it.

It feels good to be ready for the baby! I’m sure there are some small items we still need to pick up at the store like baby wipes and alcohol and q-tips for the cord stump, but those are easy to find at our Walmart and we have lots of gift cards for there.

I spent Sunday and last night after we got home unpacking things from the gift bags and playing with them and putting them away where I could. Everything is out of bags now, I just need to find places to store things! I can’t wait to have everything washed and hung and put away so that I can take some pictures of the completed nursery!!!

I had my appointment with the endodontist yesterday. They were really nice, and I’ve never been in such a comfortable dentist’s office before!! The doctor examined my teeth and did some tests. He suggests that we wait until after Lucas is born to do the root canal on the one problem tooth. Since I am not in any pain currently, and there doesn’t seem to be an infection in the tooth, it will be safer and smarter to wait. He did give me a prescription for Tylenol and Penicillin just in case I start to have a lot of pain or swelling. So after Lucas is born I’ll make an appointment to come in and have the root canal done.

We had our last class last night! We learned about hygiene, including diapering and sponge bathing. Also, cord and circumcision care. Then we talked about what to do with a sick baby. I learned a lot that I didn’t know, especially about sick baby care. I need to go and pick up some baby Tylenol and Motrin and get some gas drops. Don’t want to have to run out to the store when we need these things! After that we covered infant cpr. I was really glad that we got it in our class. It is one of those things that you hope you never have to use, but just in case it is good to know.

My wrist started really hurting on Friday morning. I woke up and it was all stiff and sore, and hurt to move. Not swollen though, and I can still use all my fingers just fine so it isn't broken or sprained or anything. I don't remember hitting it on anything and it isn't bruised. It just hurts when I flex my wrist fully after it has been awhile since I have moved it. It does hurt right about in the same place where I broke my wrist when I was 11 though. Weird. I'm going to ask my doc about it on Thursday.

Also, I have been having major rib discomfort and at times even sharp pain just under my right boob. I think it has something to do with the middle back pain I have every day in the afternoon on the same side. I think it is my ribs spreading, but man it is painful sometimes. I'm going to finally ask the doc about this on Thursday too. I've had it for quite some time, but it has steadily been getting worse.

Thursday is our ultrasound! Can't wait to see my little guy.

scubasam - What'd you say? Did they end up finding the changing table?

lorialys - congrats on the shower. If items show up as purchased on your registry, I thought that the registry acted as a receipt. Could you return the other dupe closet organizer without a receipt and just get store credit? I'm sure you know this, but after the baby is born and when you have your root canal, be sure you ask how any medicine they give you will affect your breastmilk. Will you need to pump and dump and supplement/use previously pumped and stored milk or will it not be excreted in your supply.

hmbay - good luck finishing that project! Are you at least close to finished?

sdmama - sorry about the pay situation...that stinks. :(

godsgift - It is possible they'd have to cut the rings off. My mom told me about a trick where you slip dental floss under your ring, wrap it down your finger and unravel it from the other side...apparently it will force your rings off. I didn't try it because I haven't been wearing my rings since about 14 weeks. Hope you find some other way to get them off so you don't have to cut them, though!

jenjen - sitting on the floor with your pelvis tilted forward a bit is actually much better than sitting in a recliner! Sounds bizarre, but it will help position the baby in the correct way so that its head is facing the back of your pelvis - which will help to avoid back labor. We learned this at my birth classes...and even still, I'm the only one who consistently chooses to sit on the floor. The recliner is more comfy, though. ;)

Liz - sorry you aren't feeling well. Hopefully work will understand.

Gotta vent about my MIL for a second. I understand that she's lonely and bored...FIL took a job out of town about a year ago and they see each other primarily on weekends now. Recently he's been in Arizona for training...has been there for a week and still has another week or two remaining. So, she calls on Sunday and says she wants us to come visit either Labor day weekend or the following Saturday. She doesn't ask if that's good for us...she says she wants us there. I didn't know when DH told her that it would be fine that she wanted us there on Saturday. I also didn't know that despite being told numerous times that we have our hospital's child birth classes every Saturday in September except the first Saturday that he would forget. So, I called her last night and said, "[Name], I'm really sorry, but John didn't check the schedule when he told you we could make it on the 10th. We have an all-day childbirth class that we can't miss. Every Saturday except the 3rd is booked with classes. We can come the 3rd or on a Sunday, though." She huffed and puffed and said, "Well, I kinda wanted to see you and John and [SIL] and [her husband] and the kids all at the same time." Well, tough nuggets woman! Last I checked SIL wasn't giving birth in about 6 weeks! We always arrange our schedules to suit SIL's, MIL's and FIL's...for once they can do it for us.

Had our 5th Bradley class last night...we were a few minutes late and caught in a sudden downpour. I looked like a drowned rat. Of course, almost as soon as we walked in, the rain stopped. Urgh.

I so don't want to go to work today. We're considering selling our house and building a new house and I'd much prefer to go out and tour the models. We haven't fully decided if we're going to do this yet because it will mean a much longer commute for DH (at least 45 minutes, possibly more)...but the community is awesome. It is in a "small town suburb," has three pools, a tennis court, volleyball court, will have a golf course, stores, there are schools in the community that are highly rated - whereas the schools in Dallas are really bad. The homes are bigger than our 1700 square foot, filled-to-the-brim place and the yards are much bigger. I would have a kitchen with more than 6 feet of counterspace, too! It's a master planned community and it sounds exactly like what we're looking for...except the commute.

hey girls!
back from my 35 week dr. appt!! everything looks great! b/p was up just a tad, but dh was making me laugh so that could have been why! :) it tends to run just a touch on the high side anyway, so i guess that's normal for me. i don't like it though! it makes me nervous! urine and weight and baby's h/b look great though! measuring right on too, so that's good. next week starts weekly appts! i still can't believe that we're doing it weekly already! so fast. have the GBS test next week and an u/s basically because the dr. thinks it'd be "FUN"! HA! i love her!! :) plus it'll let us know what position he's in.... but she's pretty sure that he's head down because of where she finds his h/b (which is low in my abdomen). other than that, that was it!
Next appt. is Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 1030am for u/s and GBS test

not much else to report! we met with the maternity care coordinator last night to fill out paperwork on little man and make some decisions in advance about circumsicion, pediatrician visit, people in the room, etc. so that they can have it in my file so the nurses know what my wishes are. i feel very prepared now! we just need that stupid car seat!! :) then we'll be ready for him to come!!

work project--I've got probably 1-2 weeks worth of coding/fixing to do and it should be ready for user testing so it is completely feasible I could get it done in time if things go well.

sleeping crappy--let it begin. I haven't slept too badly up until lately and then last night was utter h*ll. I don't know if my back is finally giving out or my chiro messed it up but I could not get comfy for anything last night. I might start sleeping on the couch so I can roll back up against the back of the couch for more back support. :(

lml--sounds like a nice housing community. I don't know what the "normal" commute is in Dallas but here in Minneapolis it's average to have a 20-40 minute commute so I personally wouldn't be bothered by 45 minutes but that's because I'm used to around 30-35 anyhow. My commute now is a bit longer somedays but to me it was worth it to get the house we really wanted (we built new last September).

nurserys--everyone's are looking fabulous! We aren't doing much for G2's. Jon finally got all his stuff out so I'm moving the crib out of Colin's room and in yet this week and we'll get everything arranged and that will be that. no painting or anything else for us.

showers--sounds like everyone is getting some good stuff. Gotta love showers! :)

ACHEESE- i think you were asking if 6lbs is too big for 35 weeks. my baby is measuring 6lbs also and the doctor said that i can potentially have an 8pounder but lml is right that those u/s are not accurate with weights.

also someone asked i think what tests we have to do between weeks 35-37. it's group b streptococcus or GBS and it's not that bad. the doctor just swabs your vagina and rectum but she doesn't have to go in like the pap smear or internal exam, which is way more uncomfortable. if you do have it, you're given antibiotics.

LORIALYS- i'm glad that you had a wonderful shower! you sound like you're set for the baby to arrive.

LML- i'm sorry about your mother in law. tough, you need to do what's best for you. at this point in our pregnancies, where we're uncomfortable and doing what we can to just get through the day, people around us especially family and friends need to be supportive.

Sorry about not finishing that story - I was trying to be quick cuz DH was needing help. ;) Yes, they eventually did find the changing table and I was able to bring it home w/ the crib yesterday. Their customer service just should've been better......I don't understand why these places love messing w/ pg women!?! BTW, I don't think I realized before that you're in Dallas.......I lived in Grand Prairie & went to high school in Arlington for awhile. The new community you're looking at sounds great! Sometimes it's worth a longer commute to live in a place you love.

dragonfly - I know! Isn't it crazy how close it could be for any of us?! I keep getting caught between "I would love for him to be here right now" and "I'm not ready yet..he needs to stay in there for awhile longer." I've decided to just not think about it anymore....he's gonna be here when he wants and in the meantime I'm just going to enjoy the quiet time w/ myself & DH. :)

We got the crib set up last night and will get the changing table set up tomorrow - DH has a work dinner tonight and I can't carry it upstairs from the garage by myself.....regardless of how I'm motivated to do so. I'd get in huge trouble! ;) We had been given a bassinet but realized last night while moving it into our room that it's broken. :( So, we're either now hoping that someone buys our PNP or that we can borrow a bassinet from BIL & SIL now that they're baby girl is in her crib.

Off to get ready for work and find out what the boss man has to tell me today!

lml41981 Hmm, I didn't know that about the registry acting as a receipt. I'll look into it, but if nothing else I'll just keep both and use them both. More storage would be useful, since we don't have many shelves in the closet. Also, thanks for the reminder about drugs and breastmilk. That's definitely something to think about. I'm going to discuss it with my OB this week, and then I'll discuss it with her again when I know what kinds of drugs they are going to give me. I'm sure they can give me something that is safe and does not show up in breastmilk except in trace amounts. Hopefully it won't interact too much. I'm definitely going to wait until after we have a good supply established before getting my teeth done. No sense in making those few weeks even harder!
How exciting that you're thinking about building a new house. The neighborhood sounds great too! We've got a few of those type developments in our area and they seem really nice. We're also thinking about building a new house. It is somewhat stressful to think about though, selling and moving when I'm 6 weeks away from my due date!

cartersmommy Sounds like you had a great appointment! I can't believe internals are starting at our appointments already. Can't wait to follow everyone's progress, and get excited about our first term delivery.

Pumping and Dumping I think I remember seeing something a few days back in here about pumping and dumping if you have alcoholic drinks. According to our hospital's LC, you don't need to do this. Your body automatically removes the alcohol from your milk just as it does from your bloodstream. Of course, the more alcohol you drink the longer it stays in your milk, but pumping and draining your breast will not help or speed up that process. Just a tip for those of us breastfeeding mommies who are planning on having an occasional drink! Wouldn't want anyone to waste that precious milk.
