I love it!
My favorite shows are Divine Design, Simply Chic, Design on a Dime, Designer's Challenge (anyone else think it's funny that the host of The Bachelor is also the host of this show?), and Redesign with Kenneth Brown (love him!).

House Hunters
Designer's Challenge
Get Color -I've learned alot from that show !

Does anyone think Debbie Travis is annoying? She's a great designer, but she annoys me and they show her shows too much! LOL...

I don't really care for Debbie Travis' decorating. I also don't care for Sensible Chic.
I feel they take too many exceptions and I would be disappointed if I was the homeowner. I also don't like that they only do 3 walls - all my rooms have 4 walls.
I appreciate the designers who stick to a budget. It appears Kenneth Brown is good at that. I hate it when Designer's challenge decorators don't stick to a budget and the couple upgrade their budget $40,000. As far as I'm concerned the designer is unethical to present a package that falls out of the budget range. I also don't give them credit for saying in the presentation "... and if you will increase $$$, we can add..." No, the reality is that your are to play by the rules and not be an elitist jerk.
Ok, I'm finished.

I flip between HGTV, gossip shows, and Laguna Beach all weekend. My favorite shows are Trading Up, What Not to Wear, Clean Sweep, and old Trading Spaces. Another show I like is Sell This House on A&E.
So what is your decorating style???
I love simplistic w/ nature and earthtones with a pop of color in pillows. I also love accent walls. I think every one should have a bold colored wall in their house!!

Another person I do not like is Lisa LaPortier(sp) from ..Geeeze, I can't think of the show she's on....
But anyway, she absolutely annoys me to the bone...

Oh, I like Lisa & Clive from Designed to Sell. I also like the A&E's Sell this home. I just watched a show on A&E called America's ugliest living room. I don't know if it was a special or a new series. The Designer Doug from Trading Spaces host & he actually did a wonderful job. (very surprising to me, anyway!).
Now be honest, which designers do you or did you like on Trading spaces? I love Vern,
Frank & Laurie. I wouldn't want Doug or Hildie - their rooms were hideous!

I LOVE VERN!!!!
I would pass out if they ever sent me Hildy.....
Doug is cool.... But a little too Diva-ish for me.. I do like his new show..

Our TV stays on HGTV most of the time, but we switch over to TLC to watch What Not to Wear . My DH enjoys most of the shows on HGTV (but his first choice in college was to be an architect). Nobody has mentioned the outdoor shows. I love the show with Susie C., where they suprise one of the home owners with a new back yard. And Landscaper's Challenge... oh, and Curb Appeal. It is amazing what they can do to the front of these homes! Probably the only time in the fall HGTV won't be on is when CSI (all of them) and Ty's Home makeover show is on.
I HATE Trading Spaces now. I really haven't watched it since Vern stopped designing regularly. Vern is by far the fav on that show, but I also loved Laurie, because she loved fabrics, and knew that one really great fabric in a room can make a huge difference. Well, then Ty left... so I never watch anymore.

I watch HGTV a lot - I hate when they make "artwork" on the budget shows out of a posterboard and some tempura paint, or some fabric or whatever. I always think it looks terrible! I saw one Design on a Dime (I think it was that show) where they took some B&W photos of buildings and framed them for the homeowners. That looked 100x better than any of the "artwork" I have seen on other shows.
My favorites are I Want That, Divine Design and House Hunters.

Yeah, my guilty pleasure. I like the 'sell this house' type shows, but one more than the other. (I don't know which is which). I like the one where they have the appraiser come in and make comments, then the designers and crew get to work. At the end they have the open house. In the other one, they have an open house to identify the probs then the designers do their thing and then the same people come back to another open house. That one seems a bit contrived, and all the people wind up talking about how much better/different the house looks, not how much they'd actually want to buy it at all, KWIM? I also like it when they say whether or not they sold it, and for how much.
In the same vein, I also really like House Hunters, though the host is a little annoying. I wish they would show more diversity in the neighborhoods (i.e., not somewhere in CA). I saw a commercial for House Hunters International the other day... looks like they might be going in the other, extreme, direction. I think it's funny when the 'hunters' on the show always make the same comments; "oh, it's small", "oh, it's really bright/dark" "I don't like the color" (Then Change It!! Almost everyone will give their new house a coat of paint to freshen it up anyway!!). It twerks me when I watch a whole episode and then they don't even buy the house. Oh, and BTW, we know it's your realtor calling to say you got the house when the phone rings while you're hanging out on the porch steps with your whole family. ;)

Bumping up this old thread.
I watch way too much HGTV. Lately I find myself watching endless episodes of House Hunters International. The domestic version of House Hunters just depresses me (all those houses for only like $300k-- I wish!), but the International version is a lot of fun. I love seeing what's "standard" on houses in other places... washing machines in the kitchen, bidets, etc.
What are you watching on HGTV?

I watch everything. HGTV is my go-to channel when I can't find anything else on. Whenever I turn it on, DH wonders what project I have in mind next.
I just realized that I've been telling my dad about our HGTV when I really mean HDTV. Good lord, he'll get a kick out of that!

I watch House Hunters every evening while DH puts DD down to bed. If I am feeling a little lazy I keep on watching and watch Design to Sell.
I like Hidden Potential - I think it is a great concept in this economy, but I stopped watching it - without seeing the house after they buy it and renovate it, it lost it's appeal to me. I got kind of depressed looking at those dumps of houses. But it did get me thinking about the future - Given the right contractor, I may be more willing to buy a less-than-perfect house.

Bumping up this old HGTV thread. Watching the reveal of the HGTV Dream Home is one of my favorite things about New Year's Day. So excited to see this year's house! Anyone else watching?

The Outdoor Room looks interesting, and I watched a few episodes of House Hunter yesterday.... I'll have to check out the time of the Dream House reveal - usually at night, right?

Okay, for those of you that have watched HGTV for a while...is Holmes on Homes a new show or an old one that they are showing episodes of? I have never seen it before a few weeks ago and it's become one of my favorite shows!

I've never of Holmes on Homes until recently. I've watched HGTV for years and the title doesn't sound familiar. Maybe it is new.

I wasn't such a huge fan of the Dream Home this year. Maybe it was the location, maybe some of the decor choices, but I just didn't love it like previous homes. That master suite is fabulous, and I love the wingback chairs next to that tiled fireplace. But the two children's bedrooms weren't attractive to me (and the two large white beds in the lavender room were too large for the space, IMO) and I couldn't figure out why you'd want glass doors on your garage, especially if you're going to use the area in front of it as an outdoor dining space.
Why didn't they talk about the solar panels on the roof? That was maybe the most interesting thing about the place and they didn't even mention it. You have to figure your utilities would be sky high in a place that size, and with all those windows in that setting. Would have been nice to know how the solar would impact that.

Put me down as not loving this year's dream home either....although I may go ahead and enter the contest, just because....I probably won't go to the site to enter every day.
As for Holmes on Homes, that looks like it is an older Canadian show that they started airing here last year (not a fan of it or him).
I've heard of Holmes on Homes being advertised before, so I guess it was on another cable network and was moved to HGTV.
The last few dream homes have not done it for me. I think they might need a new decorator. I don't know if they have the same architect every year or not, but if they do, they might need a new architect too. It seems like they make some rooms too big and some rooms too small and IMO there is too much wasted/transitional space.
The outdoor room guy looks like he is pissing his team off the entire time in the two episodes that I have watched. I think that show is gonna implode.

Who's watching Design Star? In white below, just in case anyone's TIVO'd the episode but not watched it yet:
How in the world did Kellie not get eliminated after completely ignoring the homeowner's requests? That poor little boy looked like he was going to cry when he saw his room, and that wacky bed Kelly made just looks unsafe. I thought that room was worse than either Kevin or Leslie's!
I recorded an episode of HGTV'd just to check it out, and am now sure I will not be watching it again. I like David Bromstad, but everyone else on that show is unbearably annoying. Also, who puts a water feature into the backyard of a house where two very small children live without any kind of safety precautions? A toddler could easily drown in that.

We watch this and DIY, specifically for DH. I'm over the water features in practically every back yard they do. Why is it needed?
