Sweet!!!

I was going to join the Feb/March group, but there's a big difference between being due at the beginning of February and the beginning of April, so I'm glad to see this thread. Now we just need to find out who started this thread hours ago and didn't join herself! :p

Finding out the gender? No way! This is the best surprise ever!
Other children: Maddie, April 17, 2008

I just got off the phone a few hours ago with a nurse at my doctor's office; they were confirming my pregnancy. I went in today and took a urine test while we were in for DD's 15-month WCV. I have an appointment scheduled on Aug. 19 with a nurse for a prenatal visit. I'm really looking forward to this, because I'm going for a VBAC (DD was Frank breech) and I will be able to talk to her about my best options for an OB who is VBAC friendly -- unfortunately our HMO doesn't cover midwives or I'd go with one.

I hope I'm not alone here for too long. Come on April Mommas!!

This is my first child. I am having bouts of nausea throughout the day for almost a week. First symptom was a very sensitive sense of smell. My first appointment is August 17th. Somehow I am keeping my pregnancy secret from my mother so that I can tell her in two weeks on her 50th birthday. Anyone have some ideas on how to tell Grandma, then Grandpa?

MrsBeckyLP, I'm going to be going for a VBAC, too. I'm really excited about it! I've been researching my options for about a year now, and I've picked a midwife that practices at a hospital that is really VBAC-friendly. I'm happy to have found a fellow VBAC-er in this group.

I wondered as we were trying if I'd be as happy to be pregnant the second time, with a busy preschooler running around. As it turns out, I am SO happy to be pregnant. I've been slightly nauseous, really tired, and peeing a ton, but all of that is totally cool with me. It took us about a year and a half to conceive each time, so by now I'm just thankful to be nauseous and tired and all that. I still can't believe it finally happened! I actually had an appointment with an RE to start testing on 8/4, which is the same thing that happened when I got pregnant with Ava. It seems that for me, in order to conceive, I need to have a looming infertility workup in my future ;)

Hi uwsweet and a_spark!! Congrats! I'm glad to see a few other people have joined already. That's a good sign for April. :)

uwsweet- I see you are from WI but now live in Texas. I live in WI! Where are you from?

a_spark- Yay for attempting a VBAC! I'm glad we'll be here to root each other on and share resources. :)

Telling people- With DD, I gave my mom a small canvas wall hanging that said "Life is Good at Grandma's." It was for her 49th birthday, so it wasn't like she was surprised she was getting something; my dad was standing there watching her open it. We told the ILs with a Grandparents Day card. It took MIL a LONG time to catch on, mostly because she wasn't wearing her glasses and only pretended to read it. Nice. This time I bought this (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26868688) shirt from Etsy and plan to put it on DD when we go visit our parents. My mom was here visiting (and babysitting for DD when we went to a wedding) from Wednesday night to this morning, so I had a really hard time not telling her!

I should get going. I'm sitting here watching DD take her bath, but she's been in for plenty long now. Time to get the kid to bed so I can go to sleep!

Hi, guys :)

I just had to pop in here because I am SO HORMOTIONAL right now! Argh. Every little thing either makes me want to cry or punch somebody. I can't wait until the second trimester when this will settle down a bit. I wish I had some kind of protective gear to wear to cover my thin skin! Anyone else dealing with this? I'm sure I was this way with DD, but I think it's harder this time around since I'm also chasing a toddler.

Come on lurkers -- join us! I see the number of thread views keeps going up!

Hormotional- (Haha -- I hadn't heard that one before!) I'm OK, but I'm just really edgy. Last night DD wined all night from the time we got home from the time I put her to bed, and I was going insane. She drove me nuts like she never has before. We had bad weather, so we couldn't go outside, and DH worked late. I could not wait for bedtime, and I usually cherish my evenings with her. I also find that I'm crying easily when watching TV shows or reading sappy stuff.

Congrats MrsBecky and aspark! Hopefully a few more will join us.

MrsBecky - I lived west of Madison in Cross Plains. Where in WI are you?

I haven't been too emotional, just last week Tuesday before I took the test, I was crying watching "Cheaper By the Dozen", then totally shocked and stunned by my early BFP on 10DPO. Otherwise I've had the heightened sense of smell, nausea in waves through the day and food aversions. Can't believe I can't drink a whole can of coke anymore, granted it's a good thing that will be dropping out of my diet as soon as it can without causing me too many issues.

I've only told my best friend (actually her before DH since he wasn't home yet and I was freaking out). DH finally told his boss today, he wanted to tell somebody and all his close friends and wives are on facebook. We're trying to keep it secret until Aug 7th for my mom's 50th birthday! I'm still trying to figure out how to tell her and my dad. Right now, I'm getting her a charm necklace or bracelet from Things Remembered with a charm for her 50th. I might add another charm to a cute baby bib or something for her first grandchild. But I'm open to any other ideas. This has been so hard knowing for a week and not being able to tell my mom since we talk everyday.

uwsweet- I'm in the Madison area (northeast). I like your idea of getting a charm bracelet with a bib or something similar for your mom. It's been hard for me to keep it from my mom also; we're really close, and she was even at our house for 3.5 days last week! That was tough. Luckily we'll see them again this weekend and I get to tell them then.

I told my co-worker today when we went out to lunch. She's the only person IRL I've told besides DH, of course, so it was nice to spill the beans to someone! She's really excited for me, but she's also disappointed because I will not be returning to work after we have Baby No. 2. I'm PUMPED about that!

Well, ladies...I'm outing myself as your threadmistress, but sadly I won't be for long.

Last Wednesday (10 DPO) I got a BFP. It was a shock and took a good 24 hours for it to sink in and me become excited. Then on Monday, I started bleeding. My OB got me in right away for blood tests, and I received a call a few minutes ago diagnosing me with a chemical pgcy. :( I think I'm doing okay with everything. Since Monday I have been reading like crazy, so I was mentally able to prepare myself for the worst.

Let me know if anyone wants to take over, and I'll PM you the log in information. Until then I'll hang out with you all. I hope no one else has to experience this and that you all have a very H&H 9 months! :)

tgr- I said it in the April/May '08 group, but I'm so sorry. :( You can PM me the info and I'll take over; it's definitely not fair for you to do the job.

I was hoping to avoid being a TM this time around, but hopefully we'll get some newbies to join and help out at some point. So if anyone else is reading this, remember that! ;)

I can't believe nobody else has joined us yet!

So how is everybody -- well, the two of you -- doing?

I'm feeling pretty good, though I have tiny bouts of nausea pretty much all day long. I'm OK with that though, because it's nothing major at all. My boobs aren't tender this time around, but I wonder if that has something to do with the fact that I'm still nursing? My nipples sure are sore/sensitive when DD is nursing though. And I've been sleeping like crap. Just horribly. And that's a real bitch when you're so tired all the time.

Have you guys seen the news about H1N1 flu and pregnant women? I don't usually worry about stuff like this, but this does worry me a bit. I've read that 13 percent (six out of 45) of the people who've died from it were pregnant women who were otherwise healthy. So that worries me. And then there's the whole vaccine thing. I didn't even get a regular flu shot when I was pregnant with DD (I've never had a flu shot, actually), and now I'm supposed to be getting this flu shot -- provided it becomes available to me -- that was so quickly developed? It all makes me slightly nervous.

In other news, I'm excited that we're telling my parents tomorrow!

Nausea hit me like a freight train today, but no barfing...it's just like last time- I'm really, really queasy but nothing happens. I went out and got lemon candies, candied ginger and some grapefruit oil to sniff, so hopefully those things will get me through! I was overwhelmed by all the smells in the grocery store and thought I'd have to run out of there a couple times. But I welcome it, because it means this baby is really in there! Anything for reassurance :)

H1N1 Funny you should mention that, MrsBeckyLP, my dad called me about it this morning. I kind of brushed him off, because he's a HUGE worrier, but the numbers you mention do concern me a bit. I'll have to look into that more. DH is a teacher, so he brings home a lot of germs.

There has to be more ladies lurking. We can't be the only ones.

I've feeling ok. Nausea has gone down in frequency, but still getting it in the middle of the day. When I get home at night I take a nap, but then I'm sleeping horribly. Either mind racing, muscles ache, breasts ache and I just lie there tired but can't sleep. DH is being very protective and making sure that I'm getting in all my fruits and veggies.

I think after my appointment on the 17th I'm going to put in my 2 week notice at work. I work part-time standing, walking and lifting in a prep kitchen. The stress of a new owner changing everything, grumpy customers due to new owner, and just standing that many hours and forgetting to eat isn't good for me. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while, but finally need to make sure I'm doing what is best for me.

One more week and I'll tell my parents that they will be grandparents! Just one more week of keeping it a secret from my mother. She has most of the weekend I'm up there planned with fish fry and a movie friday, farmers market and Packer game Saturday, then State Fair on Sunday. Should be a busy weekend, hopefully I'm still feeling good at that point. I will have to change the game plan of the alcoholic drinks her friends intend us all to have and such at the Packer game and State Fair, but I don't think anyone will mind.

Hi, ladies.
I just decided today to check on whether there was an April thread yet. Guess I'll go ahead and join. Still can't believe I'm able to be here! It's been a long road, and I'm still more than a little nervous about getting through these early weeks.

This was an IVF cycle, so I'm still waiting on the follow-up beta hCG blood test results. (They do three - first one last Wed. was a solid 207. Had second one on Friday, but won't get results until tomorrow, when I'll also have blood drawn for the third.) Provided the numbers are going up appropriately, our first ultrasound will likely be sometime next week.

Welcome, beetle and stevesbabygirl! I think we were getting lonely in here :)

Is anyone else super bloated? This will be my second, so maybe that's why... I'm 5w today and already have lost all definition in my stomach and a lot of my waist. I feel really heavy/thick in the middle. The nausea is definitely here to stay, but it only gets bad if I let my stomach get empty. Of course, this means that I am constantly having to eat. I'm basically grazing all day long. Today I let my stomach get empty and got pretty nauseous and really angry. I was stomping around the house, muttering about the mess and being a general pain, so DH sent me upstairs to read for a bit. So... I basically got put in a time-out :) As soon as I ate I felt totally fine again, so clearly I need to just keep snacking and make sure it's healthy so I don't weigh 900 pounds by the end of this! I've also been really tired and have had to take a nap every day.

So, that's me, hope everyone else is feeling good and getting enough sleep!

I'm only 3w5d at this point (got my BFP at 3w2d, wow!), so I'm still feeling pretty good, aside from a little cramping. I feel a little off at times, but nothing bad so far. Oh yeah, and totally bitchy too :p.

Thanks for the welcome, a_spark.

Bloating is actually my major issue right now. I'm at a real disadvantage, because a lot of bloating is inherent to the IVF process, and it can then be exacerbated by hCG in the system. Right now, I literally look about 6 mos. pregnant. I am having HUGE issues with finding clothes to wear that fit and don't cling and show my belly. I would love to hear any suggestions y'all have on that! I am concerned that people at work are actually going to notice before I'm ready to announce.

MrsBeckyLP
08-03-2009, 07:45 AM
Welcome beetle and stevesbabygirl!! Congrats to both of you!

Bloating- Yep. Majorly, and I had it last time, too. I'm embarrassed that a lot of my pants and shorts are getting uncomfortably tight already. I think I'm going to show fairly early this time, and I anticipate a large belly by the end. DH actually said to me last Wednesday, "Wow, you have a belly already!" Actually it is just flabby bloat and makes me feel like a lard ass! Like beetle, I think I'm going to be visibly showing before I'm ready to tell my boss. Then again, I really don't care about that this time, since I'm not going back to work!

Cramping- I was having that pretty badly for about a week, but it's pretty much stopped now. I am having gas though, and I can't take a decent shit. I must up my fiber intake (but I've heard that also increases gas ... great).

Tiredness- I've been exhausted, but I can't sleep at night. It's horrible, actually. I bet I've been getting three or four hours total per night. It doesn't help that DD doesn't regularly STTN and still wants to nurse when she does wake up, so we're doing CIO in the middle of the night this week. It's actually really simple -- I turn the monitor down really low, and I pretty much can't hear her since our rooms are on different sides of the house and I sleep with a fan on. What I don't know won't hurt me. She NEEDS to get this sleep stuff figured out, and I NEED a break for a few months before this baby comes! I'm pretty sure she only cried on and off for about five minutes last night.

We got to tell my parents this weekend, and they were so excited. It was nice to break the news to my mom; I hate hiding things from her!

I was at a baby shower yesterday, and three of my girlfriends are due in October. They were having their picture taken together, and one of them said, "Wait a minute! Are any of you holding out on us? Should any of you be in this picture, too? Becky, how about you?!" I just about died, and I had to try really hard to not bust out laughing. I did tell one of my friends after the shower, and she started crying for me. She said it was just as exciting as when I told her I was pregnant the first time, which made me feel good.

Friday's beta (quantitative blood hCG test) results came back this morning, and it was good news. They want to see the number double every 36-48 hours, and mine went from 207 on Wed. to 525 on Fri. So far, so good! I had the last beta drawn this morning and will have the results tomorrow, and I think they'll then schedule an ultrasound for next week, around 6w3d.

ETA, MrsBecky, I've had a lot of gas, too, and I've also been really tired but not sleeping great. I imagine it is even more challenging with a little one!

I feel like I'm suffering from insomnia too. DH and I tend to go to bed on the late side anyway, but I'm having a really hard time falling asleep now, blah.

I have a doctor's appointment for a pregnancy test tomorrow, yay! The lady I spoke to on the phone was totally bitchy . Gee, sorry I didn't know exactly what kind of appointment to ask for! i asked for a prenatal appointment, and she would just keep interrupting me with questions. Man this group is lonely. I hope we get some more moms soon! An LJ buddy of mine just got a BFP, so I'm anxiously waiting for her to join! ;)

Nothing much new to report here. Still exhausted, still sleeping like crap. I'm trying to wear dresses and knit skirts to work since I'm so bloated and my regular shorts/capris/pants are uncomfortable. I actually pulled out the maternity clothes bin and washed some of my capris and shorts, because I think I'll need them no less than two weeks from now, and I wanted to sort through to see what I had. I tried on some of my jeans, and I instantly remembered how comfortable maternity clothes are! I started wearing pants with the demi panel pretty early last time (about 8 weeks or so), and I won't hesitate to do the same again this time. I'm lucky that my due date is just two weeks before DD's birthday, so I probably won't need to buy much this time around. Though I love to shop, so I'm sure I'll wind up with more than I really need. :p

Welcome and congrats, mlfallis!

MrsBecky, did you actually shop for maternity clothes that early with your first pregnancy? I'm curious how early the 2nd-time moms started wearing maternity during your first pregnancies.

I am in a real pickle with the bloating issue. I already look undoubtedly pregnant (related to hCG exacerbating IVF effects), and I'm at a loss on how to find clothes that fit and hide the belly. I actually sent my BFF a picture last night, and she was shocked at how big I am. I don't like the idea of going out and buying maternity clothes this early, especially since we're just not ready to make an announcement. (Only our immediate families and a few close friends know.)

Also feeling a bit frustrated with the local fertility clinic, where I've been having my beta blood work drawn. We actually went to an out-of-state clinic for our IVF cycle, but I'm having the post-cycle monitoring done locally. They're supposed to fax results to our out-of-state nurse as soon as they come in, but they STILL haven't sent Friday's beta results. Good thing I was able to get the results myself while I was there yesterday, or I'd be going nuts by now! Will be really unhappy if they can't get yesterday's results to our nurse today.

beetle: I will answer while you wait for Becky. I started wearing clothes by 8 weeks as well last time, but this time I am going to try to hold out longer, if possible, since I am starting bigger than last time. I really don't want to gain 50 lbs again. I was enjoying eating for two the first few months a little too much.

MrsBeckyLP
08-04-2009, 08:57 AM
Yay Melissa!!! Congrats again!

beetle- I think I bought them online (Gap, Old Navy). Motherhood Maternity asks for your due date, so I would have felt silly telling them it was so far away! My other problem was that I had gained about 5 or 10 pounds in the two months before I got pregnant the first time, so my clothes were getting tight anyway, and the bloating made it unbearable. It really kind of sucked, because then I didn't have anything to wear after I had DD. You could always try leaving your pants unbuttoned and then wear a belly band (I dug out my belly bands yesterday, too). Honestly though, you will be amazed at how comfortable maternity clothes are, so I'd go for it sooner than later. I've never quite understood why people (not saying you are, just people in general) are hesitant to wear maternity clothes. If you layer with tanks or a belly band, and if you wear long enough shirts, nobody will know you're wearing maternity pants, and you will feel so much better! I'd highly recommend something with a demi panel; they work great for earlier on.

eta: Melissa, I gained at least 5 pounds in the first three weeks last time, before I even got to the doctor! I ate, and ate, and ate. This time I'm trying to eat fruit and veggies when I'm hungry two hours after eating a meal. I've known for two weeks, and I still haven't gained anything. Whew!

Welcome mlfallis :D!

I had a doctor's appointment today, and they confirmed my pregnancy with another test, yay!

My next appointment in August 17th. That will be our first ultrasound, and I'll be 5w6d.

QOTD - What is your strangest pg symptom so far?
I'm still really early in my pregnancy (4w today!), but my strangest symptom is that food is tasting differently to me right now. I was eating Wheat Thins yesterday, and it seemed like they had no flavor. Same with my favorite pasta that I make for me and DH all the time.

a_spark
08-04-2009, 11:07 AM
Congrats on the confirmation, stevesbabygirl! and welcome, mlfallis! I'm glad we're getting some more moms on this board.

QOTD-- That's a tough one...I think it might be that I CANNOT tolerate meat. Ugh. And I am a major meat-eater, usually! Also, coffee tastes bad to me, too, which is insane given the fact that coffee was my absolute most favorite thing. It's so strange to have these aversions to things that I used to absolutely love.

I am right there with you on the bloating, ladies. I start out the day pretty flat, but I look like I'm about 4 months pregnant by the end of the day. I really need to break out the maternity clothes from the garage and sort them because I know my pants aren't going to cut it in a couple of weeks. That's DH's big project, as they're buried under towers of stuff. He keeps telling me it can wait but I know that my persistence (er, nagging), will make it happen sooner rather than later :)

Well, I think I'm ready to cautiously join although I'm still in a little disbelief that I'm actually pregnant (but in a good way of course!) Here is my info:

DH: 37
Married: 2002

BFP Date: Aug 3, 2009
EDD: April 13, 2010
Gender Prediction: No idea, but I'll say girl!
Finding out the gender?: Absolutely!
Other children: DS, 2 1/2 years old

I'm so happy to join all of you and I seem to be sharing my due date with stevesbabygirl. :)

My first OB appt. is not until September 14th so I'm very jealous that you all got an appointment sooner. As a RO though, I'm totally fine with it and hopefully will be able to relax until then.

And I hear ya on feeling bloated all the time. I had a great workout session today but I still feel super bloated to the point that I have to unbutton the top bottom of my pants! I'd really like to hold out breaking out the maternity clothing until close to 12 weeks, but we'll see how it goes. Luckily it stays so warm here well into September that I can wear forgiving wrap dresses and skirts.

QOTD: No really strange pregnancy symptoms yet although I do get waves of mild nausea during the day and it's sometimes hard to swallow my food for some reason.

beetle: I'm fairly small-busted so I was able to get away with wearing my regular tops well into my 2nd trimester, which was nice although I think my pants got pretty tight around the 8-week mark as well. I definitely went overboard with the food in the 1st trimester but really watched it after a wake-up weigh-in call with my OB and luckily only gained about 30 pounds in total. But I really watched what I ate and exercised throughout my pregnancy. I hope to do the same with this one.

stevesbabygirl: congrats on your great doctor's appointment!

Congrats, stevesbabygirl, on official confirmation!

And congratulations and welcome, lilo! Sounds like you did well staying in shape last time. I am really trying to be careful about what I eat, and I'm exercising faithfully every day, which is why this crazy bloating is taking me by surprise. Of course, our family has all been asking about twins, since we did transfer two embryos (but one was farther behind - dr. gave us a 20% of twins). :)

So the final beta from yesterday came in at 1501, which is great. First ultrasound is scheduled for next Wednesday, August 12.

QOTD: I guess my strangest symptom has been this persistent metallic taste in my mouth that started very early and hasn't gone away. I didn't even know it was a pregnancy symptom until I asked about it in the IVF thread. :D

Welcome beetle, stevesbabygirl, mlfallis and lilo! So glad to have more ladies join us for the greatest month of the year! I'm off to Wisconsin tomorrow for the week to tell my parents and friends. I bought a baby picture frame for my parents and put in "Reserved for Baby XXX, Estimated Arrival 4/3/2010" then I got two charms for my mother's 50th birthday, one Mom and one Grandmother. I don't think I can hold out until friday to tell them, especially with the symptoms I'm having (super tired, food aversions and nausea) but so happy that I'll get to tell them in person.

QOTD - What is your strangest pg symptom so far?
Food aversions that can change in an instant. Also that Coca Cola just doesn't taste that good right now. I've been horribly addicted for years, now I haven't had one in 3 days.

See you when I get back, unless my parents computer is working.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

uwsweet: That is a sweet way of telling everyone about your pregnancy. I'm sure they'll love it. :)

beetle: I hear ya. It's like the bloating goes away after I work out, but by the time I get home, I'm bloated all over again!

Has anyone else's sense of smell heightened? I swear I can smell things a mile away and lots of food smells are turning me off.

How is everyone feeling today? I'm still getting waves of nausea, a little cramping every now and again and just a weird gagging feeling in my throat. I'm not complaining that my symptoms are mild right now though because I know the potential of feeling horrible in a few weeks so I am trying to enjoy this while it lasts.

lilo: Smells drove me nuts last time. DH thought I went off my rocker as I could smell stugg he couldn't.

Today I am feeling so good so far, but 3pm onward is the real test if I remember from last time.

Another Question: When are you planning on telling work? I am trying to figure out when to tell me boss since I know RO that you could tell by 6 weeks, which freaks me out by the way.

beetle- Great numbers! How exciting that you'll have an ultrasound next week already!! I can't wait to see that little heartbeat fluttering away.

uwsweet- You're just in time for the heat wave. We've had 70s pretty much all summer, but it's supposed to be in the 90s this weekend! Have a wonderful time telling your parents.

smells- My sense of smell is heightened. I remember last time I would want to kill DH if he burped in the car while I was riding with him. Last week when we went to the outdoor aquatic center in town, I commented on the strong smell of chlorine, and my friend looked at me like I was crazy and said she couldn't smell it at all. I almost blew my cover!

Work- I really haven't decided when I'll tell them. I was around 10 weeks last time and was starting to get a bump (after having a flat stomach), so I was worried they'd notice before I told them. So I guess it will depend on the size of my belly! I work in a really small office (boss/owner, two FT co-workers, me (four days a week), and a PT girl who is there two days a week), so I'm not worried about much. My boss is really flexible and is a great guy to work for; I'm sure he's expecting another announcement from me soon.

Speaking of work, is everyone returning to work after baby comes? Is anyone currently a SAHM?

I know I've said it twice already, but I'm just so dang excited! DH and I decided about four months ago that I will not go back to work after we have No. 2. Right now I work 8-4 Monday through Thursday, and daycare here is ridiculous. After those costs for two children, I'd be bringing in only a few hundred dollars a month, and it's not worth it to be away from my kids for that small amount of money. I do write and edit for a living, so my goal for the next few months is to get started at freelancing. I also plan to offer my freelance services to my current boss. The only thing I have to worry about is when in my pregnancy to let my boss know I won't be coming back, though I highly doubt he'll hire a replacement.

beetle

MrsBecky, I am pretty excited about the ultrasound! I'm also envious that you'll be staying home. I always wanted to be able to stay home once we had a family, but my DH is part-owner and CIO for a start-up company. My job is our primary source of income, our only source of insurance, and by far the more stable situation. I am fortunate, though, because DH works almost entirely from home, and I work from home three days/week. With some flexible, back-up child care through a SAHM friend, I don't think we'll need daycare.

Telling work: I probably won't make a general announcement until at least 12 or 13 weeks. My boss is already aware, because I needed to work very closely with her on the flexible scheduling necessary for our IVF cycles - particularly this last, out-of-state one. We have a difficult department VP, though, so I would like to wait until things are pretty solid before letting him know.

Smell: I have a very keen sense of smell normally, but I have actually been more stuffed up with allergy/sinus issues the last few weeks, so I'm probably smelling less rather than more!

I'm curious how early the 2nd-time moms started wearing maternity during your first pregnancies.

About 12-14 weeks with all my pregnancies. This is my 5th pregnancy, the 3rd one in the past year, so I've been pregnant for 6 months out of the past year anyway. With my first pregnancy, I noticed a lot more bloating than I have in subsequent pregnancies, but I also weighed more then than I have for the others.

No symptoms for me so far. I had Betas done at 13 and 15 dpo and my doubling time was 24 hours, but no symptoms is unsettling to me. My first appt. is September 1st when I'll be just about 10 weeks.

Welcome mamax2!

I'm currently a SAHM, and won't be returning to work anytime soon. Before having DS, I was a surgical tech for a plastic surgeon.

What is everyone's mommymobile? I'm currently driving a Ford Focus, but we're looking at getting either a Toyota Highlander or a Honda Pilot. I like the Highlander a lot, but the Pilot has more seats, which is important to be because DH's parents often come with us to family events, so we need to have the extra seating.

I already have 2 kids so we're mini-van all the way :D:p I hated getting it, but I LOVE driving it now. It's just so much easier w/the kids and they love it too.

work ~ I work part-time both in and out of my house. When I'm in the office, my Mom watches my kids and when I'm at home, I work at night for the most part after the kids are asleep. So, we'll keep doing the same thing.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

work I am self-employed and work from home, so I'll likely take 6-8 weeks off, then ease back into working when the baby is napping, then get a part-time nanny when s/he's 6 months old. Same thing I did with DD... it's hard sometimes but it's also really awesome to spend so much time with my kiddo(s)! I still can't believe I'm going to be a mother of 2...!

I'm having trouble sleeping at night due to alternately being SO THIRSTY and then of course having to pee three trillion times. Argh. It makes me really cranky and that sucks for my whole family.

Welcome, mamax2!

As for our transportation, we currently have a Jeep Liberty. Hasn't been that reliable, unfortunately, and I wish we'd gotten something more fuel-efficient, but we'll hang on to it for as long as we can. My husband drives a Ford Ranger pick-up, which we may at some point have to replace with something more family-friendly, but for now we like having the utility.

MrsBeckyLP
08-06-2009, 08:42 AM
Vehicle- I have a 2008 Impala we bought when I was pregnant with DD. The trunk is HUGE and works well for now, but it might get tight when No. 2 comes and we travel the 1.5-2 hours it takes to go see our family. Maybe we'll stop traveling so often, but I doubt it. DH wants a minivan, but I'm not so keen on the idea. I'd much rather have an SUV. We won't be buying either any time soon, though, because we don't want to have two car payments. DH drives a four-door Cavalier to work that we don't take anywhere as a family.

Oh, the hunger. I am STARVING all the time. It's bad. And tired. I can't keep my eyes open, but I'm still sleeping horribly at night. We were having an impromptu meeting this morning at work, and I couldn't stop yawning. My boss kept looking at me funny, so I just said, "Sorry. I've been sleeping like crap lately."

vechicle - I drive a 7 passage Trailblazer, and DH drives a extended cab truck. We will be keeping these vehicles until I go back to work. THen I will be getting a new one and DH will take my Trailblazer, his current truck can take two kids for DC drop off in the morning which is he job. I have no idea what I will be getting as I love my Trailblazer but they don't make it anymore. I need 4 wheel drive for where we live and my commute to work in the morning. I can 100% say it will not be a mini van though, it doesn't give enough clearance for snow in the winter.

Welcome, MSH!

vehicle We share a Land Rover Discovery. DH works 4 blocks from our house and I work from home, so in general it works out. There are times when we want/need to go separate places and have to do some negotiating/someone has to volunteer to take public transportation, but for the most part it's a good setup, especially since it's paid off. There's plenty of room in the back, so we'll just toss another car seat in there. Kind of sucks for our passengers (i.e., we won't be able to have any, except very very thin people!), but I'm happy that it's great in the snow and everyone fits.

That's exciting news stevesbabygirl! Congrats! You're going to love the Pilot. We have the 2008 version but my girlfriend bought a 2009 version with all the bells and whistles including the sun shades that are built in (I wish we would've gotten that) and the navigation system. I swear, the amount of times we've been able to change DS in the back when we're out and about is the worth the $$$ alone. ;)

Not much new going on with me. I seem to be getting a little dose of heartburn now and again after eating, which isn't fun. Other than that, I feel good except for the constant need to drink something and feeling bloated all the time. I feel like I'm getting certain *looks* from some of my co-workers so I think I may have to wear a girdle of some kind to at least make it *appear* that my stomach is flat at all times. :D The exercise helps tremendously with the bloating though so I hope to keep that up even if I start to get bad bouts of nausea like I did with DS.

September feels soo far away before my first appointment but oh well. We did tell my parents and they're very excited. Other than that though, we're keeping mum until after my first appointment.

How is everyone else feeling??

Tentatively dipping my toes in the water ... Last night, I completely unexpectedly (to me) got a BFP! I took a test just to stop the 'FPS' from playing mindgames with me, and when I went back and looked, the test said "pregnant"! EEK! The test actually expired in May 2008 (from a test pack bought when I got pregnant with DS1 in October 2006) so I need to test in the am with a 'real' test, but AF still hasn't shown, I'm having some nausea, and well, the test said pregnant.

I've been reading along with the hope that I'd be able to join ya'll - but not really expecting it. I'm excited that I get to join everyone. Hoping for Happy & Healthy 9 mos for all of us!

ETA: Based on the due date calculators, I think my due date is 4/14, but that's based on a 28 day cycle - and mine have been going from 28 - 32 recently, so I wonder if that will change?

Welcome and congrats newmommy and RobynScott!

I felt pretty crappy today. I woke up with a headache. Actually, who am I kidding? I didn't really sleep again last night, so "waking up" isn't exactly it. Then I felt pretty queasy for most of the day. DD and I watched quite a bit of TV today. :o And to top it off, the darn kid only took a 40-minute nap!!

I guess we're telling the ILs this weekend. Long story, but we have a wedding to attend tomorrow, and DH decided last minute that it would be a wonderful idea to go stay at his parents' house instead of mine after we leave the reception. Their house is about 40 minutes in the opposite direction of home, so I'm highly irritated. They're coming next weekend to babysit DD (for the first time ever, which makes me REALLY nervous since MIL and FIL aren't too good with DD) while we go to my cousin's wedding, so we're going to see them a week from now. Why the heck do we have to see them two weekends in a row??!! I'm not a huge fan of the ILs, if you can't tell. Anyway, I fully expect it to take MIL and FIL quite a while to catch on and see that DD's shirt says "big sister."

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm looking forward to heading home early on Sunday and going to the aquatic center.

Is anyone else still BFing? DD only nurses two or three times a day, but I would like her to wean at some point soon. I'm really hoping my supply will just dwindle, but my luck that won't happen and I'll have to force the issue; I'd rather she "self" wean because the milk just isn't there anymore. I DO NOT want to tandem nurse, and I'd like to have at least four or five months off before nursing another one for this long.

polkadot how fun! Seems like so many girls I know are in this group :)

MrsBeckyLP I just weaned DS#2 3 weeks ago, so right around the same time I would think we conceived and I noticed the boob juice had started to change so your baby may wean because of that too?

angelcookie2002 and RobynScott Welcome!!

I'm feeling great, found out drinking a large decaf coffee didn't quite agree with me but that is the only thing I have noticed food/beverage wise. I do seem to crave sweets, need to pee more and my skin is breaking out. Nothing major but still different from my first PGcies (both boys), which is leading me to believe this may be a girl.

I called the MW office the other day to book my appt because I loved then with DS2 only to find out 3 of the 4 don't work there anymore!! I know one of them personally, so I sent her a message asking what was going on. Well as luck would have it her and one of the other MWs are opening their own practice within walking distance of my house!! They hope to open in September so it works out perfect but until then I am in the care of the old office. I am also being sent for a dating ultrasound as I am not 100% sure when we conceived, not really looking forward to the "probe" but it will be a nice confirmation even though the lines on my cheapie tests keep getting darker each day I still don't believe them.

Oh and I thought this may be fun for everyone.
A friends mother told me about this algorythem which will predict the gender of your child.
- Take the age of the mother at the time of conception, divide by 4, write down the remainder
- Take the age of the father at the time of conception, divide by 3, write down the remainder
- The gender of the baby should be whomever has the lower remainder.
- If the remainder is the same the gender of the baby will be whomever had a birthday the fewest days befor conception.

So in our case my remainder is 0 and DHs is also 0 but because my birthday was a month before and his is in a couple of weeks our baby should be a girl!

This works for both of our sons and quite a few of our friends but ofcourse not everyone.

Welcome angelcookie, RobynScott, and polkadot :D! It's nice to see some of my LJ ladies here :D!

According to that algorithm, we'll be having another boy. And according to the Chinese gender predictor, we're having a boy. But according to the cowlick swirl (look at the back of your baby's head - if the cowlick goes right, the next one will be a girl...if it goes left, then it will be a boy), it will be a girl.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

MSH - looks like our DS's share a birthday - 7/17! Great date :p

According to the algorithm, DC#1 would be a boy (he is) and DC#2 would be a girl (we'll see!)

So, I hope I get to stick around here. No signs that AF is coming - and had some definite nausea yesterday / last night - but - I took a test this morning (since the only one I've taken so far was an expired digital) and the test was defective! I didn't get a positive, BUT - I also didn't get a control line, so I'm not counting the result. AF is showing no signs of coming (but I also don't really have other symptoms - besides the nausea) - so, we'll get some more tests today and see what happens. I hope it's still positive! (not freaking out yet, but maybe I will if they come out negative!)

Wow, ALL of them say I'm having a girl, which has been my thought since before I got pregnant. The swirl on the back of DD's head is very defined and definitely to the right.

Good luck today, Robyn!

Woohoo - Just took a First Response Gold Digital - and it's POSITIVE! Phew! I was thinking it would be as I've been mildly nauseous this morning (and definitely moody / oversensitive) - but still, I held my breath waiting for the results to come up. I got a very definite Yes + :) I was looking for a non-digital FR test as well since that's what I tested with with DS (two pink lines) - but all they had at the store were the digitals or blue line test (which is what failed on me this morning).

Glad to really be able to join

Probably won't officially join until after our first appt, but newmommy, we meet again. ;) Guess we went for our thirds the same time. I think I'm April 16th or 17th!

Congratulations everyone! I like this group already! :)

Welcome, RobynScott, polkadot and angelcookie! This place is filling up!

According to the algorithm, the chinese gender chart, and DD's insane hurricane of a cowlick, the baby is a girl...which I suspected anyway :) We shall see.

Today is a doozy in terms of not feeling well. I've been in and out of bed all day, totally exhausted and nauseous. Ugh. DD is watching movies :(

I think my EDD is off by about a week...I did the calculations and based on the date my MW gave me, it'd mean I O'd on CD 18, totally not possible since I have a clockwork 26 day cycle. According to symptoms it looks more like I O'd on CD 11 or 12. Which makes a lot more sense, since I started feeling nauseous a couple of weeks ago (at what would have been week 5, not week 4). We'll see what they say at my U/S on Tuesday. Which I'm really excited about!

Welcome Taurus!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I can hardly even believe I am here- almost want to pinch myself. The exhaustion is starting to hit (at least tonight) - but I also have stuff that "has" to get done - ie, tonight, I HAD to put together the kitchen DS just got for his birthday - I can't wait to see what he thinks when he comes down in the morning. Now I am "done" - so tired - yet almost too awake to go to bed if that makes any sense.

Having food issues too. Things just don't sound appealing, and even when we went out to dinner tonight I barely ate (part of that was also containing DS ;) ) but then we get home and I'm wanting carbs, carbs, carbs.

Also, bought a pregnancy journal tonight. I used the same one with DS. I know it's still way early and who knows what will happen - but, if things go well, this will in all likelihood be my last pregnancy and I want to enjoy every last minute of it!

Hope everyone is having great weekends! Congrats to everyone - I really look forward to getting to know all of you (and continuing to post with the ones I know) - seems like a really great group!

Welcome Taurus :D! It's nice to see our group expanding!

I'm still feeling pretty good so far. No morning sickness, a little more tired than usual, but not terrible, no food cravings or aversions. However, I am big on carbs and meat right now, and since I've had a lot of it lately, I'm totally sick of pizza.

I went country line dancing with some friends tonight, and when I caught myself in the mirror, I thought I looked a little thick in the waist. I was hoping it was because of the macaroni and cheese I had for dinner (carbs!!!), but I'm guessing not :p.

Good morning ladies, just got my morning wake up call from DS #1!! So how do I subscribe to this thread-I forget!

RobynScott: I'm with you, carbs, carbs, carbs! I'm a bit hungrier than usual, and my stomach gets bigger as the day goes on. One of the reasons that I thought I was preggers! I show very eary, and I did as well with my first two...and I guess by #3 the stomach is shot..and I already have a pooch! LOL

So we're keeping this a secret for at least three months. My brother and SIL have been TTC for several months and have fertility issues...and my SIL is having a hard time with it-so I don't want to upset her. Rather wait until the first trimester is over--and maybe she'll get her BFP by then!

I also don't want work to find out--because well they have smart A** comments for me-it seems. LOL When I announced I was expected DS#2 they all said: "already?"...rude.

I teach part time so I hope to hid in my classroom once the school year starts! LOL

QOTD #1: Do you work out of the home?
QOTD#2: Any baby names picked out yet?

I know it's early, but I can't stop wondering what the gender is! This is our last baby, and DH and I are kind of hoping for a girl..since we have two boys. However I already have a boy nursery theme picked out..because it seems that we only make boys!! :D

QOTD #1: Do you work out of the home?
QOTD#2: Any baby names picked out yet?

I do. I work full-time and I will definitely be going back after baby. My only concern is that I just started there at the beginning of the year - so I'll be asking for a maternity leave when I've only been there 16 months. And I'd really like to take 6 mos, as that's what I had with DS (different employer). I am totally nervous about that. Kept wondering if we should wait to TTC so I could be at work longer, but didn't want work to dictate our family decisions. EEK - so a bit freaked about that.

I don't think my new job does part-time, but my job is basically M - F, 8:30 - 5. After 7 years of working way more hours (and having to bill my time, and always thinking about work, my new schedule feels (almost) like a vacation :p Ok, not vacation, but definitely reasonable.

Names: Eh - we've been kicking stuff around, but nothing definite. Also hoping for a girl (since we're 2 and done) but obviously, just want a healthy baby. DH already dreamed (about a week before my BFP) that we're pregnant with a boy, so we'll see.

As for me - Today was the day I had been planning on testing. If I didn't know before, I definitely would have known by today I was pg. The exhaustion plus insomnia (I started waking up at 4!) has hit!

Headed to an indoor bounce place with DS today and so excited! DH is headed to a baseball game, so I need to tire DS out so he'll come home and nap. Feeling mostly good, except for the cold that has settled in and a little bit of stomach issues. Boobs are starting to get tender as well. I LOVE it - I'll take whatever symptom I can get. (remind me of that statement if I start getting really bad morning sickness).

Sorry my posts are so long. Just taking the time to post while I have it. I'll mostly be posting weekends/nights since I shouldn't really post from work, so I guess I try to get it all out at once - ha! Don't worry, not always like this - just so excited! And I kind of want to pinch myself still - I can hardly believe it!

QOTD #1: Do you work out of the home?
QOTD#2: Any baby names picked out yet?

1. Yes - part-time out of the home and part-time in the home

2. No and I don't want to entertain any for a LONG time. We had a very short list for our last baby and I'm not sure how I feel about re-using any of the name's that were on his list, kwim? I mean, obviously, we won't re-use his name (Nathaniel), but I don't even know if I want to consider the names we thought about for him. It's a long way off, for sure.

Hey, things are really picking up in here! WELCOME and congrats to RobynScott and angelcookie, and a big hello to Taurus and polkadot.

QOTD #1: I work full-time in PR for a healthcare company, but I work from home three days/week.
QOTD #2: We've been batting names around off and on for years but don't have anything settled. We have a MUCH harder time with boys' names, for some reason.

I had a long bout of pretty strong nausea yesterday morning. We go to church on Saturdays, and I was sitting next to someone in our young adult class who smelled very strongly of smoke. I thought for a while that I might have to leave the room, but I stuck it out. Have continued to be more tired than usual and am also SO hungry.

We're planning to go mattress shopping today. We've had ours since it was given as a hand-me-down to us when we got married seven years ago. It's definitely time. Hope we can choose well; we've never bought a mattress before. I'm also going to try to buy a few inexpensive, loose-fitting clothes in a size up to help with this transition phase. As I've mentioned before, the massive bloating (worse due to the IVF process) has been a huge challenge.

Happily joining!

I tested on Thursday afternoon after two days of cramps but no AF lead me to believe something else might be going on, and got a very faint positive. Four more tests later (two more of the blue dye tests I originally used that showed really faint lines, a "pregnant" on a CBE digital that I subsequently doubted after reading online that they give false positives, and then finally a nice dark line on a FRER today :)), I think I am finally ready to believe that I might actually be pregnant.

QOTD #1: Do you work out of the home? Yes, far more than I'd like. I'm an attorney at a large firm. Right now I work a ton, but I am really hoping to go back on reduced hours after this baby. (Which would likely still translate to full-time employment by regular standards, but that would be an improvement.)

QOTD#2: Any baby names picked out yet? We have a list going for each gender leftover from when we were naming DS. I think will end up picking one of those, but that won't stop me from spending the next several months throwing around other options just for fun.

Yay amew! Welcome and congratulations! So nice to have another July/August 2007 mommy in here! (and another atty too!) I also got my BFP on 8/6, but acc. to LMP I am due 4/14/09.

Hi Robyn! Thanks for the welcome! Welcome and congrats to you, too. So fun that our July/August 2007 babes are getting siblings! We were shooting for three years apart, give or take a few months, and much to our surprise and delight, we got pregnant quickly. I think this spacing will be great.

Haha, I'll PM you about the job. It really is such a difference to have gotten rid of billable hours! But - I also left law firm life completely and took a (substantial) paycut - but the quality of life is worth it!

I hear you on the three years - we were shooting for the same and unexpectedly got pg quickly. I'm really excited about the spacing though. It's also good b/c it's one of the few times we don't already have a lot of birthdays. For Seth's birthday, we had to coordinate with 2 other friend born within 3 days, and next year a 4th gets added to that mix! I think 2 yrs 9 months (or 8) seems great. Crossing my fingers that everything sticks for all of us!

Welcome amew!!

QOTD #1: I work full time and will continue to once I go back to work. I would need 3 kids in daycare for it not to be feasible, so back to work I go, which is probably the best for us all in reality.

QOTD #2: No names yet. Last time we picked while on a vacation out west and since we are heading there in October I think we should do the same, DH not so much, he says it is too early.

Another question since it is almost tomorrow, or atleast I am heading to bed.

Since pg woman are #1 to get the H1N1 shot ( atleast here in Canada), is everyone going to be getting it?

I think I will be even thought I hate that it is so new. I had the flu in May and I couldn't believe how much it kicked me in the butt, never mind if I was pg. I didn't eat for 6 days and barely made it from the bedroom to the couch.

amew Congratulations and welcome!

newmommy yay another mommy-of-three-to-be, we too have 2 boys, so I am kinda hoping for a girl too.

QOTD #1: I work from home doing freelance computer programming, currently full time hours. I will probably either return to work or school after my mat leave (1 year) is up with #3.

QOTD #2: No names yet for us either. We have some names which were on the short lists for DS1 and DS2 which we may use but we haven't really talked about it much at time point.

H1N1: I don't plan to get the vax. A nurse friend of ours was telling me it contains the drug linked to autisem so unless there are more cases in our neighbourhood I will take precationary measures and reconsider at that time.

QOTD #1 - I'm a SAHM, so no job outside the home. Prior to becoming a mom, I was a surgical tech for a plastic surgeon.

mlfallis, MSH, & stevesbabygirl -- Thanks for the welcome!

H1N1: I have no idea whether I will get the vaccine. I have had an allergic reaction to the regular flu shot in the past and therefore did not get it last time I was pregnant. I am hesitant to get an H1N1 vax, too, but will at least look into it.

But here's the real kicker--I think I may already have been exposed to H1N1 during this pregnancy! I was having lunch with a friend on Friday (the day after I tested positive), and she mentioned that her husband had just come down with the virus. She was totally panicked because she is 24 weeks pregnant and didn't want to hurt the baby. She was like, "It's just really scary because I'm pregnant, you know?" And I was just thinking, "Yea, you and me both!" (I didn't say anything to her--we aren't telling friends yet.)

I'm enjoying my sleep=don't want to mess it up! When DS#1 was moved to get ready for his brother's arrival...he stopped STTN!!! The new room threw him for a loop---and at 3.9 he's just settling back in

Welcome, amew, and a h&h 9 mos. to you!

On the H1N1 question, I have not decided for sure what to do. I've always been a bit leery of flu vaccines and have generally prefered to try to stay healthy on my own. I've never had a bad bout. However, I know this version of the flu can be pretty awful for pregnant women. I'll probably talk to my doctor, do some more research, and make a decision once the vaccine is available.

Welcome RobynScott, angelcookie, polkadot, and amew!!! I hope I didn't miss anyone. So exciting to see so many more mommies in our thread. :)

QOTD #1: Yes, I currently work out of the home and will return after baby #2 arrives. I have a great job with flexible hours though so I'm lucky. Plus like mlfallis, it's really best for all of us, at least for the time being.

QOTD #2: We have a both a boy and girl name picked out but I have a feeling that when we find out the gender, there might be other names thrown into discussion.

H1N1: I don't think I'll get it. I will get the normal flu vaccine and hope for the best. I really feel uncomfortable about the fact that it hasn't been tested on humans yet (although I could be wrong on this so correct me if I'm wrong) and don't want to take that risk.

QOTD for ROs: For those of you with a toddler, do you think it's entirely safe to pick up/carry your toddler around while pregnant? My mom worried me this past weekend by saying I shouldn't carry my DS around anymore now that I'm pregnant. He's 2 1/2 and pretty heavy but at this point I don't think it's a big deal. Am I wrong? At what point is it really not a good idea to carry my DS around? TIA! :)

mlfallis
08-10-2009, 07:40 AM
lilo: I think the H1N1 is being tested in the southern hemisphere as it is flu season down there and it is still spreading like crazy. Not 100% though.

I really hope I never have to stop picking up Kyle. He is 30 pounds, but I am currently the one he goes to for comfort, day or night, which is a problem we need to fix in the next 9 months.

Welcome Taurus and amew! Congrats to both of you!

QOTD 1: I WOH four days a week, Fridays off. I cut back to that schedule in April, and it's been great. I mentioned it before, but I'm not going back to work after baby No. 2 comes, and I'm really excited about it. However, I am nervous about going from basically being a FT WOHM to a FT SAHM of two!

QOTD 2: DH and I are both kind of hung up on the boy name we picked had DD been a boy, and we came up with a girl name before I was even pregnant. I would like to discuss it some more, but I have a feeling I will have a hard time convincing DH to entertain any other possibilities.

H1N1: I, too, am a bit nervous about this as well, considering the number of pregnant women it has affected. But I'm also nervous about such a hastily-developed vaccine, so I'm not sure what I'll do, for both DD and me. And I've heard that it does contain thimerosal (a mercury-containing preservative), but it's a highly controversial topic (as I'm sure most of you know) as to whether it can be linked to autism. I don't want to start a debate, but I did want to put that out there. I really don't know what I'll do at this point. Like some of you, I've never even gotten a regular flu shot.

Picking up toddlers: DD is only about 20 pounds, so I don't worry. However, I have a bad back that only gets worse with pregnancy, so I could see that becoming a problem. I really can't see how I could ever completely stop picking her up.

Any other takers on helping with TM duties? It really would be nice to have some more help. :) I do see we were updated over the weekend -- thanks MSH! But another helper would always be welcome!

Re: threadmistressing (is that even a word ;) ) - I'm not able to get on enough to do it - but, I was thinking, if it's not too difficult now, maybe we could wait till more girls with due dates near the end of the month join? beetle, lilo, MrsBeckyLP -- Thanks for the welcome!

teacher_jessica -- Welcome and congrats!

Picking up toddlers: DS will be two in a couple weeks and is around 30 lbs., and I am still picking him up. I don't think there is any way I could avoid it--he and I would be so sad. That said, I don't think carrying a toddler is a problem this early in pregnancy, especially when it's something your body is used to doing.

I really don't have symptoms yet, and it is kind of freaking me out. I had a lot of cramping last week for the two days before my BFP that I suspect was implantation related, and I have had a little heartburn and a couple mildly queasy moments since, but that is about it. I know I shouldn't wish for morning sickness and insomnia, but I kind of want some confirmation that all is well, you know? I had very few early symptoms with DS, though, and he is obviously fine, so I keep trying to remind myself of that.

That way, all the TM's won't be off (hopefully) having babies at the same time? Just a thought.

That's a good idea. I'm sorry if I'm coming across as a bit jumpy on the subject. I was TM of my last due date club -- a group of over 30 women, most of whom were (and still are 16 months later) pretty chatty -- and neither of the other two TMs really helped at all. It got to be a real PITA with updating appointments and such all the time, and I'm really hoping that doesn't happen again.

So I didn't work out at all tonight like I said I would (to try to help in the sleep department). It was almost 8 by the time DD was in bed, and I spent a majority of my evening before then cleaning the house, which was a total disaster, and doing laundry. I am going to try a nice, hot shower though, and DH is sleeping in the guest room. I have actually been praying for sleep lately.

RobynScott

No worries Becky - I was a TM of our group that barely posts! I just remember that near the end we needed to get someone with a later due date.

For me, usually falling asleep is not a problem (i'm falling asleep on the sofa even though I have lots to do) - but I start waking up at 4 - ugh.

Toddler - I'm not worrying about lifting DS - at least not yet. Maybe as I (hopefully) get further along. Heck, yesterday I was bouncing around in the bouncehouse with him - and my elbow has the rugburn to prove it ;)

RobynScott

12:40 and I'm still awake - ugh! I woke up to do some stuff, and now I'm up.

Does anybody / will anybody keep a pregnancy journal? I kept one with DS and will with this pregnancy too. Makes me a little nervous, but I have to decided to enjoy this pregnancy from the very beginning and hope for the best. If all goes well, this will be my last pregnancy, so I want to enjoy every minute of it.

Anyway - as anyone who knows me from LJ can attest to - I am not a prolific journal keeper, but I really like this journal as you put your dates in and it tells you about the development of your baby on a daily basis.

Here's a link: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51YAKYD8M9L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA240_SH20_OU01_.jpg

It's by Christine Harris -hope the link worked. I liked being able to read what was happening to baby on a daily basis.

Welcome teacher_jessica :D!

MrsBeckyLP - I wouldn't recommend exercising too close to bedtime, because it can often have the opposite effect, and keep you up even longer.

DS is about 30 pounds, and he constantly wants me to pick him up. I don't think it's a problem during pregnancy, unless you are put on bedrest or a lifting restriction.

Hey Eloo!

I think we're 7 miles from Boston! Are you familiar with the Winchester/Arlington/Medford area?

Where will you deliver? I'll be at Beth Israel again...LOVE IT!!! Actually with DS#2 I delivered him on Sunday at 1am...and went home Monday morning...........nuts now when I think about it! I told DH that with this baby--I'm going to milk the hospital stay!! It'll be a vacation!! LOL :D

Amew: I feel the same way about not having a lot of symptoms. I had bouts of mild nausea here and there last week but that has subsided. I have a little heartburn too and feel little twinges here and there but yes, confirmation would be nice. But like you, I didn’t have any early symptoms my DS so I keep reminding myself of that too. It’s so hard though isn’t it? With DS, morning sickness hit me around the 8 week mark so I am trying to enjoy feeling good for right now.

Sleeping: Ironically enough, I’ve been sleeping really well lately, which is rare for me. But I exercise pretty much every day which helps a lot. I’m so exhausted by the time I get home from work and playing with DS, I just collapse in bed and pass out. Funny enough, it seems pregnancy has helped me become a great napper lately too. I have never been one to take great naps but lately, I’ve been napping like a champ which has been great on the weekends.

Pregnancy Journal: Unfortunately I don’t have the discipline or time to write in one so I hope this sort of serves that same purpose. After DS was born, I did buy a little scrapbook for him and put in all the ultrasound pics, hospital bracelet, and pictures from his first year. I love going back and looking at that.

Vivid baby/gender dreams: Yes! I keep having a bunch of girl dreams but I think that’s just wishful thinking. ;) I think we only make boys too but we’ll see. I also think based on our timing that we’ll have a boy but you never know.

Welcome teacher_jessica and eloo!!

Newmommy: My appt. isn’t until Sept. 14th too. It definitely feels like forever although I keep reminding myself that there really is nothing they could do for me if there was in fact a problem. But if you really are worried or would feel more comfortable, I would try to get an earlier appointment. Like stevesbabygirl said, every day without spotting is a good day. :)

As for me, I'm so happy that I'm officially 5 weeks today! Only 5 more weeks until my first appointment! ;) I'm feeling pretty good although I already feel like exercise is going to get harder and harder as the weeks pass by. The biggest thing bothering me right now is smells. I can't even have my trashcan in my office anymore if there is anything remotely smelling in there. Very odd. The bloating is still going on so I am having to suck it in when I'm around my co-workers.

Hi to everyone who's new! Sorry, for the generic message, but I can't remember when I last posted because yesterday was a whirlwind (my oldest DD's 6th birthday, party at the zoo, family dinner out, etc.) I've been super busy with all that stuff so, again, apologies & welcome!

H1N1 ~ Probably will not get it. I don't get the flu vaccine and I especially don't want a vax w/thimerosol that's never been tested on pg women. It does concern me though because my DD's school had 2 cases of H1N1 in the Spring.

Lifting toddlers ~ I got pg w/DD2 when DD1 was 19 months old. I had no problem picking her up throughout the pregnancy. I mean, I didn't carry her around just for sport towards the end :p but it was possible for me to lift her. Now, at 50lbs and 6 y.o., I'm definitely not picking her up. In fact, my 3.5 y.o. is pretty heavy for me now - pg or not, so I have already limited carrying because of that.

Appts ~ My first appt isn't until about 10 weeks either. I did have HcG and Progesterone testing in the beginning, but that isn't standard in my area, it's just because I've had 2 m/c in the past year. Then again, that didn't really alleviate my fears either. I don't think anything will until this baby arrives!

Dreams ~ I've had one baby dream and it was just of an u/s with a beating heart. That's good enough for me at this point! We are hoping for a boy, but who knows! This is the last pregnancy for me no matter what.

Yep! I'm familiar with that area.

LOL @ the vacation! I totally understand though!

I delivered DS at Newton-Wellesley and am debating using them again. I've heard they're very VBAC friendly - and that's what I'm hoping for! We've moved since he was born and it's a little bit of a hike to get there. There are a few decent hospitals that are closer that I'm thinking about as well (Umass and St. Vincents). I'm not going back to the midwife/OB practice that I used last time so I guess it all depends on what practice I find and which hospital they have rights at!

P.S. DS is teething and I think I'm going to jump out a window.

Sleeping I've been sleeping great too, just not as long as I would like. I am quite busy with work, so I am up till midning most nights and have to get up for work again at 6am, so needless to say I am exhausted. Thankfully, my deadlines are tomorrow and I almost have all my projects wrapped up so come Thursday things should look up :)

Journal I keep a journal on livejournal. During my PGcy and for the first week after I turn it into a hard cover book, so completely customized. I looked to find one I really liked when I had DS1 but couldn't find anything so I came up with this idea. I really love the book we have for DS1, still haven't gotten around to printing DS2s but it is all done! Here is a couple of pictures:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/mrs_natalie/September22_03.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/mrs_natalie/September22_02.jpg

Lifting toddlers With DS2 I was able to lift DS1 with no problem through out, but he is pushing 40lbs now so I don't think I will be lifting him too much this time.

I have my first actual MW appt on September 16th but a dating ultrasound scheduled for August 26th, when i will be 7 weeks.

Delivery Am I the only crazy one who is toying with the idea of a homebirth? DS1 was an induced vag. hospital birth at 41w with an epi and 16.5hr of labour, DS2 was a natural birth at a hospital drug-free and 12hrs of labour. However, with DS2 I thought I was only having BH contrax so I didn't get to the hospital till 3 hours before he was born and noone believed I was even in labour till about 2 hours before he was born, I was in pain for only 15mins. So my MW said next time to consider a homebirth because I may not make it to the hospital.

MSH: I pray by birth for #2 is like you. #1 was almost the same. I really want to avoid an epi this time. I felt the spot where they put it in for over 9 months.

Eloo: teething sucks, I hope you get them all out of hte way soon. my only saving grace was we got all within a 4 month window.

Welcome and congrats, teacher jessica and Eloo!

MSH, I really like the idea of taking your LJ and turning it into a hardcover book. It looks like it really came out great! I also have an LJ, but I've also kept a private, personal journal written to our future child all through our long IF process. Not sure what I'll do with it when all is said and done.

First ultrasound tomorrow, and I can't wait! I really hope we can see a nice, strong heartbeat.

MSH ~ I love your photo book/journal! What site did you use to create the book? I've done 2 photo books on Shutterfly, but my goal is to get albums/scrapbooks/photo books done for my 2 DDs during this pregnancy so I can be totally caught up when the baby arrives.

Homebirth ~ I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a HB, but a couple of things stand in my way: 1. The nearest MW who will perform a HB is 3 hours away; 2. Our hospital is 1+ hour away so DH is concerned that if a transfer became necessary, it would be too far. I had a 6 hour labor with my last baby. I arrived at the hospital at 8:59 am and she was born at 9:11 am - the nurse caught her!

Both of my girls have been drug-free, low-intervention hospital births.

MSH: that is amazing! I don't have the discipline or focus to accomplish that! It's beautiful...wanna do mine? ;)

I keep memory boxes for my boys...and I just went through my 20 month old's.

I wrote a lot duringmy first trimester-- dreamt that he was a girl...and I wasclearly wrong! LOL!!

I just got excited now going through all of his ultra sound photos--it makes it all so real!

This is our last baby too...I hope to enjoy every second of this pregnancy!! This morning I took our older son out to Dunkin Donuts--tried to drink a coffee-still not a no go : ( (It's in the fridge now!) and I felt so sick to my stomach---just as I did with my first pregnancy. So funny how each pregnancy is so different!

Homebirth - Meant to mention that this is something DH and I have been seriously discussing. I don't know much about what's available in our area, but I at least want to explore the idea. Of course, if they find two in there tomorrow, that likely won't be an option!

MrsBeckyLP

Welcome, Eloo!!

MrsBeckyLP - I wouldn't recommend exercising too close to bedtime, because it can often have the opposite effect, and keep you up even longer.

Yeah, that's why I skipped it last night! If I can get it in before DD goes to bed, that would be great. We'll see about that, though.

MSH- I love your journal! What a wonderful idea!

beetle- I can't wait to hear news tomorrow about your ultrasound!

Pregnancy journal- I kept a hard copy one sort of like Robyn's when I was pregnant with DD, but I wasn't very good at filling it out. I do journal on LJ, but I've found lately that I'm not there as often as I used to be. Maybe I should start documenting this better. I guess second child syndrome is kicking in already!

Dreams- None really yet, though I have had one fabulous sex dream. Yeah! Oh, come to think of it, I did have a dream last week that I was in labor (good sign, right? -- I never labored with DD and am going for a VBAC), but I think I woke up before the baby was born.

Sleep- You all are making me so jealous! I actually slept decently last night, so if I can't find the time to work out at a decent hour, I'll definitely be taking hot showers before bed for as long as that seems to work.

Delivery- I'm not sure if any of you follow the VBAC thread, but I was pretty stressed about this a few weeks ago. Our insurance coverage is fabulous (it will cost me $10 for all my prenatal care and delivery, etc.), but we don't have many options. I have to deliver at a certain hospital, and I have to choose an OB in a certain practice (about 15 OBs with about six different offices in the area). Midwives are not an option covered by insurance, and I even looked into paying out-of-pocket for a birth center birth, but the birth center nearby doesn't do first-time VBACs. A doula I contacted said she doesn't know of many VBAC-friendly OBs in the practice I have to go with, so I was really bummed. But since then I think I've found a good option (through a local mommy message board). I'll also see what the OB coordinator/nurse says next week at my appointment. Hopefully she can give me some insight.

I'll have to go back and look, but is anyone else NOT finding out baby's gender? I am the most impatient person in the world and am a huge planner, but for some reason this is one thing DH and I feel like we don't need to know in advance. There really are so few surprises in this world, and it was the most amazing thing to find out at delivery. And announcing it to everyone else was so neat, too. I felt like everyone was so excited to find out if it was a boy or girl -- very different from calling people and saying, "Oh, we had Bobby!"

Hi Everyone! Sorry I don't have any specific SO's, I'm so tired and cannot remember who I've said hi to already so welcome to all the new members! :)

I just had an u/s at the midwife's and saw the baby's heart beating away. "Oh, wow!" I shouted and a big fat tear rolled down my cheek. I guess for me the second time around is no less exciting! I still can't believe they can see anything in there. I'm measuring at 6w6d, so my due date of 4/4 is still on target. I feel so relieved now, like I really DO have a baby in there. Amazing.

Homebirth I would absolutely LOVE to have a homebirth, but I am going for a VBAC this time around and the only midwife that attends HBACs is on a hiatus...so...instead I have chosen a really VBAC and natural-birth friendly hospital and midwife that are about 15 miles away. A bit of a hike to get to appointments (takes me about 30 minutes to get there because there is always traffic) but I'll take it if I can have a vaginal birth this time around!

I'm here at my mom's...I'm so super tired I can barely see straight. I don't remember EVER being this tired with my other pregnancies.....then again, I didn't have two little boys to chase :p

I literally cannot keep my eyes open after 1 pm every single day. (Actually, today is pretty good.) It was why I was pretty sure I was pregnant. I do remember this utter sleepiness from the last two times. Otherwise, I am symptom free. IIRC, my m/s with them kicked in around 6 weeks?

Okay, back to lurking. Maybe not yet joining is a superstition thing. Or a crazed, hormonal thing. Oh yeah, DH said after I tested that he knew I was pg because I had been acting like a crazy person.

Welcome Eloo!

stevesbabygirl and lilo -- I feel better knowing I am not the only one without many symptoms. Thanks!

I broke down today and took yet another test. I tested with the same random generic brand test that I first got a very light BFP on last week and indeed the line was nice and dark today. So I am taking that to mean that my levels are rising and all is well.

Pregnancy journal- I wrote down some notes in a notebook last time, but I didn't do a very good job keeping up with it. I would love to be better about that this time.

Dreams- I have had some weird, vivid dreams, but none baby or gender related. Oh wait, last week I dreamed that my BFF and I were trapped at one of those creepy baby beauty pageants. Does that count as a girl dream? I am thinking probably not...

Sleep- I am exhausted and never seem to get enough sleep as it is, so I crash as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Homebirth/Delivery- There is part of me that would like to consider homebirth, mainly because I have a totally fab bathtub that would be awesome to labor in. :) But I will have another hospital birth because 1) I had a great experience in the hospital last time around; 2) I love my OB; and 3) my DH is totally weirded out by homebirth (he gets queasy super easily when it comes to anything bloody and just plain can't cope with the idea of me birthing in our house), and I wouldn't want to do it without his support--too stressful.

My first appointment is now scheduled for September 2. I will be almost 8 weeks.

Seriously though, do any other ROs have a pretty big pooch already?!?!?!?

Oh yes. And it's not all just bloat anymore. I'm actually getting a real baby bump already (though it does bloat up bigger by the end of the day). I don't know how I'm going to hide this from work for another four weeks like I hope. OTOH, I really love being pregnant and enjoy having a visible baby belly, so I'm looking forward to getting bigger.

amew
08-11-2009, 05:59 PM
I hear you all on the bloating! I swear I look 3-4 months pregnant. I really don't want to have to tell work until 14-16 weeks, but I am afraid it will be so obvious by then.

RobynScott
08-11-2009, 06:22 PM
Ok, just typed out a huge post and lost it, so I will try again. My stupid wireless went out, and apparently, cut and paste doesn't work when you restart your computer! :p

Welcome ELOO!

BLOAT Me too - of course, it could also have something to do with the salty crap I am eating. I usually gain 2 pounds after ovulation and lose them with AF, so I'm already holding on to 2 additional pounds (plus an additional pound I put on before the BFP) - ugh. On the bright side, even with the extra 3 pounds, I am 9 pounds lighter than when I got pg with DS.

SYMPTOMS Add me to the camp of none really. Happy to read others feel the same way. Also happy everyday there's no spotting! I was having a little bit of cramping last week (leading me to believe AF was coming) but nothing really this week. A little bit of queasiness / nausea, but that seems to be related to increased hunger / feeling like I need to eat (which maybe led to the 3 pounds I'm holding onto ;) ) Also, have a runny nose (don't know if that's a symptom?), some increased thirst (and correspondingly, lots of bathroom breaks) and got a mouth sore the day after my BFP (which I read is also related to pgcy). Well, I do have exhaustion, but that's not necessarily a pgcy thing. It was so hard to keep my eyes open and focus at certain points today. None of the boob soreness I had with DS though.

DELIVERY In all likelihood, a repeat c-section. I'm not even sure I would be a VBAC candidate (was induced at 40w6d, made it to nearly 10 cm but not really past -2 station - he was sunny side up). I'm pretty sure DH would not be on board for it, and I think it would be tough to do at my (conservative, lots of high risk cases) hospital. Not to mention, my OB (who I really like) was like "you're a lawyer in Philadelphia - no way am I doing a VBAC!". (said before I was pregnant) - could I push her on it - probably, but more likely, we'll go with the repeat C. I will try to push however, to be allowed to go into labor, rather than have it scheduled for 39 weeks or something.

HOMEBIRTH Even if I wasn't a c-section, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be happening for me. I was a great deal happier once I got my epidural ;)

FINDING OUT GENDER We didn't with DS, but I think I would like to this time - but maybe (preferably) not tell anyone. It would be just so I could bond with baby. I was so shocked when DS was born (really thought he would be a girl) that I spent a few days really in shock. I think I'd like to be more prepared this time.

JOURNAL MSH - what you made is really cool! Don't think I have the creativity or the discipline. The book I got basically just describes the baby's development and I write down short notes here and there.

I was nervous about starting a journal so early, but I decided (with Seth and now with #2) that I want to enjoy every minute of this. Hopefully I get to be pregnant with a healthy baby for the full 9 months, but no matter what, I want to enjoy (and remember) it from the beginning.

MA GIRLS - Just had to chime in that I know the Medford/Somerville area b/c I went to Tufts :D

Phew! Hope everyone is feeling good. I was exhausted today so I hope I make myself go to bed at a decent hour. Going to bed too late + pregnancy exhaustion = not a great combnation.

It's so nice to see this thread moving and people joining. There are a lot of repeat offenders! I look forward to getting to know everyone!

teacher_jessica
08-11-2009, 07:33 PM
Well good evening ladies and thanks for the warm welcome! I hope everyone has better luck at getting some good restful sleep tonight (myself included). I've been going to bed at a great time but I've been having super vivid dreams (not all of them lovely either) and waking up lots which is making for a very exhausted person!

Also, I'm back to having lots of cramping which both comforts and terrifies me. The nausea seems to come and go so who knows what the deal is with that. I was horribly ill with Charlie for the first 22 weeks of pregnancy. It was awful~ but I always say I'll take whatever side effect necessary to have a healthy pregnancy.

BLOAT I don't know if I'm really noticing much yet. However, I feel like I showed on the early side the first time around and if I remember right I was completely in maternity pants around 16 weeks or so??? One thing that extended the life of many pairs of pants for me was to take a hair tie and put it over the button and then through the button hole and back around the button. That paired with a Belly Band got me through for a long time!

SYMPTOMS I wrote about it above: cramping, some nausea but not a lot, insomnia/vivid dreams.

DELIVERY I'll have another hospital birth. I loved my first experience and wouldn't change a thing. I was induced after being 9 days late and the whole experience was perfect. One thing we did that I highly recommend if it's in your area is a birth class weekend. We did a Lamaze weekend at a B&B and loved it! Super helpful no matter which birth experience you're hoping for.

FINDING OUT GENDER We didn't find out with Charlie and we won't find out this time either. I loved my entire pregnancy and birth experience and finding out the gender when he came out was more amazing than I can even put into words.

WORK Before having Charlie I was an elementary school teacher and I've been a SAHM since a few weeks before giving birth to him. I love it and I have to say that the time is just zipping by.

Oh, I called my OB today and my first appointment is set for September 8th. It's going to be SO HARD to wait and I'm super jealous of those of you have earlier appointments (or have already seen a heartbeat~ that's so awesome!).

Welcome eloo :D!

MSH - I'm so stupid, I just figured out who you are when I saw your pregnancy book lol! I recognized the pregnancy photo shoot. Hello LJ buddy!

Bloat - Oh yes! I'm definitely feeling a little thick in the middle, and it looks like I have a bump already. I think part of that though is that I never lost the muffin top after DS was born.

Delivery/homebirth - I am too mainstream and too chicken to even think about a homebirth, so the hospital it is :). I like drugs lol, I'm a wuss.

Shall I be the first to post a belly shot? Here I am at 5w:

Bloat So glad I'm not alone!!! Even the top of my abdomen is puffing--my DH is questioning twins! LOL

Delivery I totally enjoy my epidural...although I think it's admirable and I watched the documentary that Ricki Lake did--I'm too chicken to try it :o

symptoms My father keeps asking my mom what is wrong with me...he even went so far as to ask if I'm fighting with DH! LOL He told her that my eyes look like they are sinking into my head! LOL!!! I'm exhausted...I actually just woke up after sleeping since 8:30-and heading back up after this post!

Gender I've considered waiting until delivery--but if it is indeed a girl--I have a lot of shopping to do! So the plan is to tell everyone we're not finding out--and take it from there after the U/S. DH tells me that if it's a girl-I'll blurt it out....he's probably right ;) People had a lot of rude things to say after I found out about DS#2 and I wouldn't want that negativity again...so we'll see.

RobynScott I actually live super close to Tufts!!

Teacher_Jessica I'm a teacher as well! I'm a Special Education Teacher(MSN) and teach part time! It's 15 hours a week up the street from my home--and I'm a Learning Differences Teacher, I love it!! I plan to work up until April vacation-which is when I'm due--then be off for the summer : ) : ) : )
Have to go back though---don't even want to think about how nuts that will be with three kids four and under

Alright ladies, I think that's it, love getting to know all of you!! Good night!

First ultrasound in a few hours! I'm nervous and excited.

Bloating - I've been complaining about this since I first joined! It's definitely a problem for me, since I can't fit properly into any of my clothes. Today I'm wearing a pair of pants unbuttoned, fasted with a rubber band. (I have a Bella Band ordered - hope it comes soon!) I hear from other IVF'ers that the bloating does go down later in the 1st trimester, before actual pregnancy weight starts to come on, so here's hoping!

ETA: Nausea really seems to be picking up for me. Felt pretty rough most of the day yesterday, and am feeling queasy again this morning.

MrsBeckyLP
08-12-2009, 06:40 AM
stevesbabygirl- That's not much of a muffin top! You look good. :) I was thinking about taking a belly shot last night, but I'll probably wait until 8 weeks or so.

Jessica- I had a lot of cramping this pregnancy early on, and it made me nervous because I don't remember having that with DD. It's been gone for about a week and a half now, though. Hopefully yours doesn't last too long.

beetle- Be sure to check in after your u/s! Sorry the nausea has kicked in.

Well, my mid-back pain has started. Damn. I had the same thing with DD, so it must be more related to hormones than anything if it's starting so early this time. I have a bad back on a normal day, but I get this sore/tired feeling in the middle of my back near the outside -- away from my spine -- when I'm pregnant. It makes sitting, which I do all day long, really uncomfortable. It's almost like a sore or pulled muscle feeling that won't go away. I'm sure I'll spend the next 7.5 months with a heating pad on my back; that was really the only thing that kind of helped last time.

Are any other ROs having a hard time NOT comparing everything to their previous pregnanc(y)/(ies)? I feel like that's all I'm writing about -- "Oh, I had this with DD. Oh, I didn't have that with DD." I can't help it though! Maybe it's just nature.

Thanks, MrsBecky. I'll definitely check in post-appointment! So sorry about your back pain. That sounds incredibly uncomfortable.

I also meant to say, jessica, that I've had a LOT of cramping. It's less frequent than it was at first, but I still get it sometimes, and it really kind of freaks me out! It feels so much like PMS... I have more than once run to the bathroom to check for bleeding after a really strong bout of cramps. :o

Yes!! But in a way, it's reassuring as well since I didn't have many early symptoms with DS and this time is not much different. However, I do compare my cravings that I had with DS versus now. With DS, I wanted fruit all.the.time. This time, it's savory foods like cheese (luckily I don't give into this craving very often or I'd gain a ton of weight already!), olives, hummus, etc. Very odd.

Vivid Dreams: I don't know if it's because it's been so darn hot lately or the fact that I'm pregnant but my dreams have been crazy lately. I can't remember if the same thing happened with DS but it cracks me up.

beetle: Good luck with your first appt.! I hope everything goes great! :)

MrsBeckyLP: sorry to hear about your back pain already. Not fun I'm sure. Maybe you could get up every 1/2 hour or so and walk around to alleviate the pain?

Delivery: I loved the hospital and nurse staff where I delivered DS so I have no qualms about delivering again in the same hospital. That being said, I think I'm going to try to hold out longer before getting an epidural. Although I was happy to have it, I think it really slowed down my labor and delivery which wasn't fun. I also didn't like that I was stuck in bed from that point on. I think I"m going to try to convince my DH to do the Lameze class this time. We didn't do it last time and maybe it would help?

teacher_jessica: where did you do the lameze weekend at a B&B? That sounds fabulous and a good excuse for a mini vacation.

I just remembered what I really want to do differently: NOT be induced! For both of my boys I had to be induced--low amniotic fluids...and I'd love to go into labor naturally this time.

I am so tired today-DS#1 must have woken up 6x's last night!!!! Seriously nightmare after nightmare! I'm so tired, my eyes are burning, and I feel sick to my stomach. I'm literally on the couch, and plan to be here until noon....if the kids let me that is!

Did your doctor tell you if it's common for women to have low fluid with subsequent pregnancies if they had it with their first? I had low fluid levels with DD (less than 4 cm when they took her at 38 weeks), and it's the main reason they think she stayed breech -- she didn't have any fluid to swim around and turn in! I really hope that doesn't become a problem this time, too. Did you ever get a reason for your low levels? I kind of forgot to ask after delivery, so I never really knew what caused mine.

Ultrasound this afternoon went great! We saw one perfect baby in there, measuring right on schedule. We saw and heard the heart beating (119 bpm), and I cried. :)

Next ultrasound is Friday, August 27. The RE said to also go ahead and schedule our first appointment with the regular OB for three weeks from now, because they'll release me to him after the next ultrasound. (The first two ultrasounds are done at the fertility clinic.) I am certainly looking forward to becoming a regular ob patient, with all my visits covered by insurance. (Right now, every visit/ultrasound is out of pocket because it's being done at the clinic. $358 for today's visit, thankyouverymuch. )

This is finally starting to feel real. There's a baby in there! :D Due date is confirmed as April 3.

ETA: Picture from the ultrasound is very fuzzy, but I'll post once I have a chance to scan.

Okay so this little one is kicking my bum!!! I laid around until noon, had lunch, brought the kids to the mall with my aunt...and now I'm laying down again. My back hurts, belly is cramping nad my eyes are stinging!!! I was never this tired with my boys---I am actually surprised at how tired I am. With DS#2 I barely even felt pregnant the entire pregnancy!

newmommy, I am right there with you. I'm so freaking tired. Yesterday I was ready for bed around 5pm (and again today, actually). It seemed to take forever for it to get late enough to actually go to bed. I don't remember being this tired with DD! Argh. I feel like I've taken a heavy sedative.

Congratulations beetle!

I'm tired too, but not as bad as yesterday (maybe that's b/c yesterday I went to bed around 10 instead of 1 am the night before, lol). I don't really have any other symptoms - besides major moodiness :o. Kind of freaks me out, but I'm trying not to let it too. I also compare to my pregnancy with DS - my boobs hurt from the very beginning. I keeo checking mine now, but they're fine. BUT - I also read somewhere that if you were recently pregnant or nursing, they might not hurt this time around. Considering DS was officially weaned probably on the day we got pregnant (the day after his second birthday) - I guess if it's true that could explain the lack of boob pain.

Oh well - like someone else said - I'm counting everyday without AF as a good one! (though obviously I'd feel better if there was some way to know everything will be ok - too bad there is no such thing!)

I've wondered if that had anything to do with why my boobs weren't hurting this time. Interesting.

Yay, our group's first ultrasound picture! That's such a nice blob you have there, beetle!

newmommy and a_spark- I hear you guys. I feel like a broken record, but I'm so freakin' tired. Staring at a computer screen all day doesn't help the tired eyes.

Luckily DH and I have started switching off bath time every other night, so I get a break from sitting on the floor. I used to do bath pretty much every night while he picked up the kitchen, but now I'd rather do the kitchen work (or sit online like I'm doing now!). I think it will be good for him to get used to doing things like that with DD more, since there will be a little one for me to worry about in 7.5 months!

MrsBecky & RobynScott -- We are just wrapping up the weaning process here, too, and my boobs don't hurt either. I hadn't even made the connection until now. I feel better. :)

Ugh, I totally slipped and fell in a parking lot today and scraped up my knee and (who knows how?) the top of my foot. I am totally sore. I didn't hit my stomach at all, so I don't think the baby could possibly have been affected, but it is making me nervous anyway...

Too early for cravings, right? In our cafeteria at work, they have this chocolate chip cookie dough in the (soft serve) ice cream machine and I keep wanting it. Managed to stop myself today. If I keep getting that for lunch, I'll be showing in no time - no good!

It feels like a PMS craving, but I've decided it's all in my head since it's too early for cravings - I'm pretty much just wanting cookie dough, and this way I don't need to worry about salmonella :o

A good realization - I'm 5 weeks today -woohoo! I typed out 4w6d, then realized today is Wednesday - beginning of my sixth week. Still, way early, but nice to make it another week. Hard to believe this time last week I was convinced AF was on the way. (and secretly lurking in this thread, positive I would *not* be posting here, lol - for reference, I remember reading the April 2007 thread when we were TTC the first time, and figured this would be like then - an unsuccessful first month so I had no business reading the thread).

I'm sure there must be others like me. Anyone else out there lurking with a possible April 2010 date?

Eloo
08-13-2009, 07:34 AM
Feeling pretty good, which I'm not going to complain about. Granted, it's still super early...

Beetle - HUGE congrats on a wonderful ultrasound. What a relief!

Funny you guys should mention sore boobs and breastfeeding. I just weaned DS about three weeks ago and my boobs are freaking KILLING me. I feel like I'm walking around with a knife stuck in each of them. Ugh! Maybe it's because I'm not actively BF-ing anymore...

Question for those of you who color your hair...
I just got my hair done a couple of weeks before I got my BFP (I decided the half dead mommy look wasn't doing it for me anymore) and I can't remember if it's kosher to get your hair colored while you're pregnant. If you color your hair, did you continue throughout your pregnancy? My roots are going to be pretty tragic.

As for appointments, I have repeat betas tomorrow and Monday, and ultrasounds on 8/26 (to make sure the pregnancy is uterine) and 9/9 (to check for a heart beat. I'll be 5.5 weeks and 7.5 weeks respectively. Yay!

My first beta draw yesterday was 63 at 11DPO. I'm pretty happy with that number!

MrsBeckyLP
08-13-2009, 07:38 AM
Hair color- I got mine done all through my last pregnancy, and I got my roots done two days after this BFP. There's no way I can walk around for 9 months without it. I'd look like white trash to the max, because my roots are really dark and we use the lightest blond shade of highlights that can be pulled without using bleach. I've heard it's totally fine.

Is it really only 9:36 a.m.??? I'm freakin' starving already!!!!!!!!!

I told the teachers at DD's daycare today. I was chatting with them and was saying how I didn't want to go to work today, and one of them said, "Well, you just have to have another baby then. It's too expensive to have two kids in daycare." I told her that was our plan, actually, and then I just couldn't withhold the information. They were so excited for me.

Last night amidst the cramping I've been experiencing I noticed some bright red blood when I went to the restroom. I've since seen more. :( I cried off and on all night last night because this is exactly how my m/c before DS started off. I'm going in to have blood taken here soon and the results come back 2 hours after that. Once my doc's triage nurse gets the results she's going to decide if they want me to come in for a pelvic exam & u/s or if she wants me to wait and do another round of blood draws (I'm hoping we go for the u/s so that I have a more definitive answer).

Despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I'm headed for a m/c we are hoping and praying that this pregnancy manages to hang on. So if you could spare a prayer or a good thought for us today it would be much appreciated.

I'll be sure to update you guys when I get some info. Thanks ladies.

Feeling pretty good today although I am also so exhausted all the time. Last night I had some serious heartburn when I went to bed so that wasn't fun. Does anyone else sort of *feel things* sort of move around down there if you're laying on your side? It's probably just gas but it's a little reassuring nonetheless. I looked back at my journal with DS and I don't think my morning sickness started until after the 7 or 8 week mark so I am trying to remind myself of that since I feel pretty good right now. September 14th can't come fast enough for me!!! I can't wait to see this little one and hear that precious heartbeat. You'd think I'd be more relaxed the 2nd time around!!

Patience- I don't have much in general, so it's not much different now. However, I've learned patience over the past 16 months, and I'm much better than I used to be.

I decided today on an impromptu trip to the lake by my parents tonight and tomorrow. I had other plans for tomorrow (shots for DD, repair guy), but I rescheduled. It's just too nice, and summer will be over before I know it. I'm excited to get out on the boat in the sun tomorrow. It's been almost a moth since we've been there and had nice weather. Hope everyone else has a great weekend!

Hello ladies,

I just wanted to ask if it is nuerotic(sp?) to ask for an earlier appointment? I don't think I ever had to wait that long for my first two babies.....I just feel nervous and want to know everything is growing alright. Do you all have to wait at least until after 8 weeks?

TIA

08-14-2009, 09:47 AM
I was booked to come in at 6.5 weeks. I'm just holding out until then, not really nervous. We're not really telling people although our parents and my siblings know. I did not wait that long with my last two bc with my first I started at a different OB office that has you do betas twice. With my second, they had me come in bc they thought I might have been having a m/c, but it was just spotting.

newmommy: My appointment is not until I'm 10 weeks. I'm okay with waiting though since this is my 2nd pregnancy and am trying to relax about things this time. With my DS though, I was super nervous too and begged for an early appt. to get my beta levels checked and to get an early ultrasound. Honestly, if you feel like you're getting stressed about having to wait, I would call your doctor and ask them if there is any way to come in earlier. Good luck! :)

Today was a LONG day. In summary, I spent most of it in the ER due to spotting. My OB's u/s tech is on vacation this week, so I had to go to the hospital. My local hospital doesn't even have a maternity ward, so I had to go through ER, blah, blah, blah.

Everything is o.k. for now. The baby's HB was 148 and I'd share pictures except they aren't that interesting - baby still looks pretty much like a blob. :p Today was absolutely gut-wrenching though. I just can't handle losing a 3rd baby in a year, kwim? I'm glad things look good, but still cautiously optimistic. I know things can change on a dime. For now, I'm on pelvic rest and waiting to see what my OB says on Monday.

RobynScott
08-14-2009, 07:44 PM
Mamax - I'm sorry for such a scary day (((hugs))) I hope your OB can reassure you on Monday!

Doc appt - my first appt. will be at 8w2d - they would have let me come in at 7w2d - but the later appt actually works better for us and this way I can have my first appt with "my" doc (there are 5 docs in the practice now, including 2 I have not seen before).

Still not much in the way if symptoms. I was having a lot of menstrual type cramps yesterday. Today I noticed the tiniest spot of brown/pink - so tiny, unless you were really looking (which, I'll admit, b/c I keep feeling like I am 'leaking' so I worry about spotting) you wouldn't have noticed. I'm hoping the cramping yesterday was just baby (embryo) settling in, and the spot just the residual effect. I'm feeling positive, but obviously, we never really know what's going on.

In fun news, got my haircut today - it was so needed! I went to a new stylist and got a nice new 'do - and it was only $31 - woohoo! I made my next appt. for October, and was talking about getting highlights too (I think they're safe in the first tri?). Turns out the highlights were a bit more $$ than I think I want to spend - and the colorist asked if I could come in on a weekday and be a hair model! They need someone this Wednesday for highlights and it would only cost me $10 (instead of over $100). I'm seriously thinking about taking a 1/2 day at work to take advantage! If I could work from home for the afternoon, I would totally do it - but I don't think we're allowed. I'd love to do it, but I also feel like I should be saving time for doctor's appointments - we'll see!

Hope everyone has fun and relaxing weekends! We have a busy one planned, but I'm looking forward to it. Of course, I expect we'll get a lot of questions about when we're having #2 (one of DH's friends asked him today) b/c we're headed to a baby naming with a lot of our friends, but mum's the word for now. I guess once your kid turns 2, everyone just expects you to announce your pgcy (which seems to be holding pretty true around here!)

I'm getting bigger by the day. Several people (close friends/family who already know I'm pregnant) commented today on the size of my growing belly. And it's not just at the end of the day when I'm really bloated. I can't really even suck it in anymore. Yikes. I'm really not looking forward to my cousin's wedding tomorrow; I'm not telling extended family yet, and I'm sure the belly will be hard to hide.

So embarassing but I'm hoping that exercise really helps to contain this. We have a wedding in a few weeks and I'm planning on wearing a non-maternity dress that doesn't allow much room for bloating. Thank god for weekend naps! Other than the exhaustion, I'm feeling pretty good. No m/s *knock on wood* although I have to pee a lot more lately. I'm always thirsty and can't get enough water. I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Welcome Polkadot - fancy seeing you here :)

So, the tiny spot I mentioned yesterday turned into real spotting - pink - last night. I tried not to worry - and was even fairly successful, I think ;) Nothing that could be done now anyway, but I'm comforted by the fact that it was pink, and only one time. I'm thinking it was probably related to either embryo settling in (I hope) or irritation to the cervix from (TMI) pooping.

No other symptoms for me besides moodiness, cramps and exhaustion. One boob is maybe a little sore (and not just cause I'm pressing it so much to see if it's sore ;)) Also have the bloat going on - and I think the constipation (see above) is settling in early - but I guess that could also be the prenatal. And definite pregnancy brain - I'm forgetting and/or mixing up words when I talk!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying nice weather! DS appears to have some kind of tummy bug (or awful reaction to teething) so we're home - I need to get off my butt and clean up.

Have a good one everyone -and welcome to the new members that have joined or will be joining shortly ;)

I had a teeny tiny bit of light brown spotting this morning, which freaked me out a little, but it seems to have subsided, thank God! My appointment is on Monday, so luckily, I don't have to worry for long as to whether or not this little peanut is okay.

stevesbabygirl, mamax2 and Robyn so glad to hear the spotting is clearing up

Yay Polkadot, so glad to have you!

Not much to report here. I still feel great, if it wasn't because I took all those tests I would have no clue I was PG other than being more tired than usual. We still haven't told anyone due to a history of m/cs but I am hoping to hear a heartbeat at my U/s on the 26th. I hear you guys on the bloating, now I know my stomach muscles are nothing to brag about with having two kids in the last 3 years and the looseness probably doesn't help much but I certainly aware of my belly when around people later in the day.

Spotting is back again, argh! I'm really hoping that it's nothing. I know some spotting can be normal, but it's hard to remind yourself of that when there's so much at stake. I'm going to take it easy tomorrow and see if that helps. If not, at least my appointment is on Monday.

Think good thoughts for me ladies!

steve'sbabygirl: sorry to hear about the spotting-I know how scary it is! With DS#1 I spotted at this point, and with DS#2 I spotted during the 2nd trimester--scary times! Rest up, and take care : )

I am so sorry teacher_jessica.

mamax2, stevesbabygirl, and Robyn -- Ugh on the spotting! That is so scary. I am so glad things seem to be okay, though. I know you guys all know this, but just keep reminding yourselves that some spotting can be very normal. I spotted some with DS and totally flipped out, but obviously all ended well.

stevesbabygirl -- Hope the appt tomorrow goes well and gives you some much-needed reassurance.

This is completely ridiculous. I just saw some pictures of myself from a party yesterday and I look (not joking at all, DH agreed) about 5 months pregnant. I am scared!! Ugh.

Welcome to all the new April 2010ers!! I really have to keep track of this group, I've missed so much lately.

I got back from my trip to Wisconsin to tell my parents. I gave them the baby photo frame with "Reserved for Baby Mylastname, Estimated Arrival 4/3/10" I couldn't keep it from my mom until my dad got home so they found out seperately. Mom cried, Dad was surprised and my brother said "Ewww...." then looked at my mom and said "Eww, you're going to be a grandma". But then congratulated me, he's 28 but we both still see each other as our younger selves not capable of driving, being married, or having kids.

My first appointment is tomorrow!! Hopefully I'll be back with fun news of the visit. Tuesday I'm going to put in my two weeks notice at work. It's my part-time job, but it's getting too stressful with the new owner and it's too many hours on my already sore feet. I'll be happy not to be there but will greatly miss my coworkers.

Candy (who will hopefully be able to sleep, so tired)

mamax2, stevesbabygirl, and Robyn: sorry to hear about the spotting, but keep positive thoughts!! I think there is a spotting thread as well with good outcomes. Hang in there!

stevesbabygirl and uwsweet: Good luck with your appointments and can't wait to hear everything!!

So I think m/s is slowly creeping up on me. I'm feeling pretty nauseous this morning, which isn't fun but in a weird way is reassuring that everything is *hopefully* okay. I got pretty bad m/s with DS right around the 6w mark so this is par for the course I guess. The good thing is that I know it will only be for a short period of time. Not fun though. How was everyone's weekend? Mine was super busy with parties and family so I am actually happy to be back at the office to get back into my routine. I definitely didn't get enough sleep this weekend so I am looking forward to going to bed very early this week.
