View Full Version : Seven Jeans - Should I have expected this?

Ok, so after a lifetime of only buying inexpensive jeans (Gap etc) because I'm not really a jeans wearer, I decided to upgrade my wardrobe and buy some nice jeans. So, I bought some Seven A pocket jeans. They were soft and a little bit stretchy in the store, which is why I liked them and a selling point from the salesperson. They cost $170, which is roughly $135 more than I've ever spent on jeans before.

Anyhow, I've worn them three times and washed them twice. I followed the directions on the care label. However, after this very little use, the jeans are already starting to develop holes. The cuffs are fraying and there are wear marks/holes on the pocket seams, leg seams and on the outside of the fly. If I put my finger in the pocket, I can see finger through the wear mark (it is an almost hole). I don't like hole-y jeans. It's just not my look. I can handle slightly frayed cuffs but do not do holes in the knees, butt, legs etc.

I guess I'm worried that if the jeans are looking like this after just 3 wears that after 10 wears they're going to be, to me, unwearable. Which would be $17 per wear, which is a little steep, IMO.

Should I have expected this? Is this normal for Seven jeans? Or did I get a badly made pair? Should I return them to the store (a local boutique) or suck up the cost?

Thanks!

I would return them if they already are getting holes. That isn't normal. I assume they weren't a distressed style?

I would return them for sure.

Definitely return them! While I have noticed that more expensive jeans, i.e. R&R, Acne, Seven, are sometimes made from a softer jean material, no jeans should fall apart that quickly!

The result will really depend on the store but you should definitely try to return them. They could be that pair of jeans or maybe a defect in the entire lot. Hopefully they'll let you return them. Who knows, they may even say "You are the third customer to complain about this!" and get the defective jeans off their shelves.

I have several pairs of Sevens and they have been washed tons of times, and nothing like that has happened. I would bring them back. If they give you a hard time, you can always bring them to Nordstrom, they take anything back! (as long as they carry that style of sevens)

Thanks everyone! I think I will try to return them because I'm pretty disappointed in them. I spent $650 at the store that day (bought 2 pairs of jeans and some tops), so hopefully they will be OK, I'm willing to just take store credit or get another pair of jeans.

Sem - I have to admit that taking them to Nordies did cross my mind, given their return policy! The store I bought them from has a somewhat difficult return policy, so it did cross my mind about just avoiding the hassle and taking them to Nordies. :o However, I think I'll do the honest thing and at least try the store I bought them from first!

I recently bought my first 2 pairs of expensive jeans as well (2 pairs of Seven brand) after a lifetime of buying cheap jeans (Levi, Rider, ect). I've had them for a few months now and wear them at least once a week (so they are washed often) and haven't noticed any holes, wear, ect. I would definitely take them back!

I have a few pairs of SFAMK jeans and have never had that problem. Given the price that you paid for your jeans (or jeans of any price point really), I would try to return them if you are not happy with them.

I always buy Gap jeans, but scored a pair of Lucky's at Marshalls a few months ago for $30 and now they are by far my favorites. Since then I've checked out some higher end jeans at Nordies and the Lucky store, but I can never find a large enough size. I'm a Gap 12 or 14. My Lucky's are a 32 with some stretch to them. Everything I tried on was too small!
Am I too curvy of a girl for nice jeans? Maybe my Marshall's Lucky's were cut wrong and that's why they fit? Any insight?

I think 34 is generally as high as designer brands go, but I think that is equivalent to ~14 so that might work for you. Not all designer brands make 34, some max out at 32, but I think Citizens makes 34 and maybe some styles of SFAMK.

My Seven's are a size 14 and they fit great :) That's the extent of my knowledge about 'designer jeans.'

I think you are confusing Seven For all Mankind (which is what I assume the OP was asking about) and Sevens. SFAMK sizing goes from 24-32 I believe (waist size, not 0-14).

Fenway- I usually wear an 8 in regular clothing and most of my jeans (SFAMK, COH, etc) are either 30's or 31's.

Not sure what the difference is but my jeans are called "Seven" and they are size 14.

They are probably Seven7 jeans, I think they come in women's sizing.

A lot depends on the style, too. My SFAMK are the Dojo Wide leg. They're not so much "wide leg" on me (more like bootcut b/c my stinking bost-baby thighs), but they're by far my favorite jeans. I bought them two years ago, when I was at my thinnest (about a size 12 - or a 10 on a *really* good day) and are size 32. I'm on my way to being able to wear them again after DD (10 more lbs!). I miss them.

I realize that, I just am not sure what the difference between the jeans are. Sizes, fits, ect. I've never owned SFAMK jeans, only my Sevens.

Seven7 is more middle-of-the-road denim. Sized in women's sizes (0-16). Nicely cut and fairly well-made for the price, but average.

SFAMK is more high-end. They are cut a lot slimmer, and tend to be more fashion-oriented. Sized by waist (25-32).

I have a pair of both. My SFAMK I bought at a nice department store in town. They were fairly pricey (about $150) but felt fabulous and have held up awesome. Great to wear out after I lost all the baby weight from DS.

My Seven7 I bought on sale at TJMaxx (about $30) when I needed a basic pair of larger jeans a few months after DD was born. Higher rise, wider leg, but still a nice pair of jeans to wear for everyday things.

Ahhh ok. I bought my Sevens for $75 (from a dept. store) so I thought they were 'expensive jeans.' $75 is a lot more than I've ever paid for jeans & I love them ;)

FWIW, I buy my SFAMK or other designer jeans during the Nordstrom anniversary sale, at Nordstrom Rack, or sample sales. The most I've spent on a single pair is around $100, usually less.

I do own a pair of Seven7's that I purchased in Express years ago for about $75. I love those jeans and they have held up well.

If you're an 8 and a 30 or 31, then my 12/14 ass won't be in high end jeans anytime soon. :o

LOL. Thanks for the input.

To clear up any confusion, I did mean SFAMK. Didn't know there was another brand called Seven, to be honest.

As far as sizing goes, I usually wear a 2 or a 4, depending on the style, and my SFAMKs are 27s.

I have a few pairs of Seven For All Mankind jeans and I notice that they "wear" quicker than my other jeans (Citizens, Joe's Jeans & Paige). The knees and behind area get "fuzzy" so I use a sweater shaver to get rid of it. I haven't gotten any holes but the fuzziness is annoying enough (especially when they are pricey jeans!)
