Can anybody suggest a good author that isn't sci-fi/sex/fantasy??? I really used to be into Stephen King, and John Grisham but the last time I really followed any book series, they were of the Sweet Valley High/Babysitters Club/Christopher Pike/Fear Street teen variety. I have read a few Mary Higgins Clark and most of the VC Andrews books, but they still aren't really my cup of tea.
Looking back at my previous choices, it looks like I'm a fan of suspense/horror and true life drama. I really like true crime books, and the medical field interests me. Perhaps someone knows of some sort of medical investigator series or something?? I'm open to suggestions, so bring on the ideas!!

Have you read any Dan Brown?
I love Maeve Binchy books, but it isn't a true series and it isn't in the medical/thriller field.
Hopefully you'll get some good suggestions.

I used to read and enjoy a bunch of Robin Cook's books.

Sounds like you'd love Patricia Cornwell novels - I do! :) Pick any of the ones in the Scarpetta series - you don't have to read them in order (unless you want to).

Thanks so much for the suggestions!! We're taking a family trip to the library this weekend, so perhaps I can ditch DH with the kids in their section and head off to find a few things to read for myself!! I used to read non-stop and I've been missing it a lot lately!

Keith Ablow writes a series that mixes crime and the medical field very well. I am not sure which order the series goes in, but im sure its on his website, www.keithablow.com.

You might like Dennis Lehane's books. He is the author of Mystic River, and I've enjoyed the other books of his I've read. :)

Medical field- you might like Erich Segal's Doctors.
True crime- do you like legal thrillers, ala John Grisham? You may want to take a shot at some of Lisa Scottoline's books- fun, witty, and quick reads.
Let us know what you end up liking!

If you haven't already, check out Jodi Picoult's books...they aren't a series per se, but they are all similar in some way...you get certain pieces of a story but work at figuring it out for most of the book. I believe she was a forensic criminologist or forensic psychologist at some point in time, and her work kind of reflects that, while at the same time giving you very human, accessible characters.
I 2nd Jodi Picoult. I making my way through all her books. I especially reccommend My Sister's Keeper & Keeping Faith.

This really isn't mystery but it is a great series: 11 so far.

Daniel Silva writes a series about an art restorer/Israeli agent named Gabriel Allon that is pretty good. Kind of in the Jack Higgins vein, but longer and a little more nuanced. But then, I like Jack Higgins too.

Ohhh, I am so excited about these suggestions, I really need to get to the library this week!! I am getting very itchy to get reading again, especially with the cooler weather coming up!! I promise I'll let ya'll know what I think as soon as I get a chance to check them out! :)
I just checked out some of these suggestions on Amazon, and I really think I'm going to like these ones; Robin Cook, Patricia Cornwell, Lisa Scottoline and Jodi Picoult so far.
I think I remember seeing a movie based on one of Jodi Picoult's books called The Pact or something on Lifetime. It was about two teenagers who have been friends all their lives, and end up dating and agree to kill themselves together and the boy changes his mind or something after the girl is dead, but anyway, I really liked that movie, so if it sounds familiar to anyone, let me know cause I'll for sure want to check out those books!

I have read quite a few of Robin Cook's books, you will really enjoy them.
My sister and I are both fans of true crime novels. Ann Rule is always an excellent read. I also recently finished "A Rip In Heaven" by Jeanine Cummings, which is a true crime book and it was absolutely riveting. I started it on Saturday evening and finished it Sunday afternoon.
I will second the John Grisham nomination. Although his books aren't techincally a series, he does tend to set quite a few of them in Mississippi. I am a huge fan of Grisham's and highly recommend his books to his everyone.
