Your threadmistress for this thread is ABirney

Who we are:

Want to join the fun?!?

We welcome one and all. It doesn't matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

Feel free to join at any time during the challenge.

I hope I did this right! I see a few familiar names here (hi Liz!) and I know the key for me losing weight is support. I lost 60 lbs before my wedding (well, in the 4 years before my wedding) but (and yes, I'll blame the kids) after my pregnancy, I have am now back up to 230 (lowest weight ever was 185, then hurricane katrina hit, which really messed me up. Highest weight ever in 2001 was 242, which I am dangerously close to.)

First lost weight with WW online, which was great. After the wedding and pre-babies, I tried going to meetings and even had a personal trainer. Worked out a LOT, but couldn't lose weight. (Was about 210 then.) Got pregnant, gained 70 lbs, lost 50 after the birth, and gained 17 back. Have lost 7 of those lbs. And here I am. With a disgusting post-triplet stomach that has GOT to go. :)

'Sup, Pam? :) So happy to see another familiar face over here! I can completely relate on the stomach- I'm so down on my stomach right now. Now that I'm starting to lose the weight my skin is really saggy and gross. I think it's just totally shot out after two pregnancies and yo-yoing weight. I fear I'll need plastic surgery when all is said and done. And by fear, I mean FEAR. I'm terrified of plastic surgery, but I hate my tummy. :(

Thanks for the new thread! I really attribute this thread and the support & accountability it's provided to the success I've had over the last 2 challenges. Thanks!

I know, Liz. I think I'll need plastic surgery one day too (not that I'll ever be able to afford it) to get rid of the excess skin. Blech. But the thought of it grosses me out so much that I'd really rather just keep the flab.

One of my interim goals is to get to 200 by August 1 - my mom's wedding. There are going to be lots of pictures, and I cringe at pictures of myself now. I don't want to ruin her wedding pictures.

Also, I got something in the mail yesterday from my health insurance saying that dietician visits are now covered up to $250 per year. I don't know how many visits I could get for that (one?) but I'm definitely going to look into it.

Me too! 2.5 pounds from my 10% mark. We seem to be to be neck-n-neck. Well, aside from the fact that you're about 30 pounds less than me. LOL!

I know, my sister just announced that she's getting married in May and I'm her MOH. I'd REALLY love to be in the 150's by then but I'd really be pushing it.

That's great about the dietician! I'd definitely look in to it- it may be cheaper than you think, who knows? And even if it is one visit, maybe you'd take enough from that one visit that it wouldn't be necessary to see her again. Good luck!

I usually just eat it freshly mixed, or after it's sat in the fridge for a few hours all mixed up. I just equate it with ice cream because it's so sweet, cold, and creamy.

Let me know what you think. :)

Welcome to all the new members! Glad to have you with us and good luck!
plastic surgery I've always wanted a breast reduction after I'm done having kids. I'm scared of surgery, but my bbs have been huge since high school (currently 46H) and sag almost to my belly button. (and I'm currently 7 mos pg and plan on BF'ing, so who knows what I'll look like after that!) Plus I've been over 130# overweight for the last several years so I'm sure when I eventually do lose the weight I'll have tons of excess skin.

A couple of recipes to try. They're both from The Biggest Loser Cookbook

I had this one tonight and it was delicious! I ate it as a whole meal.

Mo's Spinach Ricotta Bake

1 package (1 pound) frozen chopped spinach, thawed
1 container (15 ounces) fat free ricotta
3 T grated reduced fat Parmesan cheese
2 large egg whites
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch of nutmeg
1.5 cups low sodium low fat marinara (i couldn't find low sodium but i did find a ragu light and it was pretty good!)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Lightly mist 8x8 baking dish with olive oil spray.

Please the spinach in the center of a clean dishtowel and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. (I held it over the sink and squeezed it out). Place in a large mixing bowl. Add the ricotta, Parmesan, egg whites, garlic powder and nutmeg. Stir to mix. Transfer to prepared dish. With the back of a spoon, spread it out to fill the dish. Bake for 20 minutes, or until it is hot through and the top is starting to brown. Let stand for 5 minutes to cool slightly.

Heat the sauce. Cut the spinach ricotta bake into 6 equal pieces. Top with 1/4 cup of sauce.

Per serving: 134 calories, 11 g protein, 17 g carbohydrates, 2 g fat, 15 mg cholesterol, 3 g fiber, 304 mg sodium.

------------------------------------------------------------

I haven't tried this one yet but it's on my list for the week and with the ingredients I'm not really sure it could be bad! I'm only going to eat half of it for breakfast one morning and send the rest for my son. I try to keep breakfast under 200 calories because i'd rather eat more later in the day.

Boston-Cream Peanut-Butter Breakfast Banana Split

Who doesn't want a banana split... any time of the day? Here's one that's not only so decadent you'll forget you're eating healthy, it's so fun, you're likely to feel like a kid again - a kid getting away with eating "junk food" for breakfast.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e144/ellidew/banana.jpg

Ingredients:

* 1 small ripe banana (about 6" long), peeled and halved lengthwise
* 1 tablespoon reduced-fat peanut butter
* 1/3 cup low-fat, artificially sweetened Boston cream pie–flavored yogurt
* 2 tablespoons crunchy high fiber, low-sugar cereal (such as Grape-Nuts)

Directions:

* Place the banana halves in a small banana split dish or shallow bowl, with the cut sides facing inward. Spread the peanut butter evenly over the open banana. Spoon the yogurt in the middle. Top with the cereal.
* Serve immediately.

Makes 1 serving
Per serving: 294 calories, 8 g protein, 53 g carbohydrates, 7 g fat (2 g saturated), 3 mg cholesterol, 5 g fiber, 241 mg sodium

Me? I did terrible this weekend- had a few get togethers, drank some beer, ate some cake...it wouldn't be so bad except I did really poorly about eating my frequent meals and drinking water. I hopped on the scale this morning and was up 2 pounds. Hopefully I can undo some of the damage between now and Wednesday...

I'm currently up over a pound over 2 weeks (I didn't weigh in last week) but I didn't drink my water over the weekend and I have af. I BETTER see like a 4 pound loss by tomorrow! lol.

It recently dawned on me that I've got a TON of events coming up so I REALLY want, no need to look my best. I've got some baby/bridal showers, birthday parties, my anniversary, and most daunting...a wedding in June where lots of guests will be people I went to college with and haven't seen in 15 years!

My main obstacle throughout all these challenges is consistency with diet. One week I'll do great and the next I'll pig out and eat crap. Staying focused on my nutrition plan has been harder than any physical workout I've done.

I hope everyone continues to post their goals and thoughts during this journey. :)

Okay, so this morning I ate the Yogurt Peanut Butter Banana Split and it was SOOOO delicious!

Here's how I made mine:

1/2 an organic banana (45 calories, .5 g fat, 1 g protein, 2.6 g fiber)
1/2 T reduced fat creamy Jif peanut butter (48 calories, 3 g fat, 2 g protein, 0 g fiber)
1/4 cup Kashi Go Lean cereal (35 calories, .25 g fat, 3.25 g protein, 2.5 g fiber)
1 Stonyfield Farm Organic lowfat vanilla yogurt (130 calories, 1.5 g fat, 7 g protein, 0 g fiber) (there are lower calorie yogurts on the market, this one was 130. I wont eat any yogurt with gelatin in it, i'm weird but the whole idea of gelatin gives me the willies. I'm trying different yogurts to see what I like. Tomorrow I'm going to try Cultural Revolution and it's only 72 calories)

I smeared the pb on the outside of the banana (the cut side was too slimy) then I put it in a bowl with the yogurt and cereal and mixed it all together. It was 258 calories, 5.25 grams of fat, 13.25 grams of protein, 5.1 grams dietary fiber. I ate it 2 hours ago and I'm still stuffed so I'm easily skipping my morning snack. Usually I have a 100-150 calorie breakfast and then a morning snack but it appears that the huge amount of protein at breakfast is going to easily hold me over.

I also thought this would be good in a blender with a little milk and ice.

Mrs.Chappy
04-07-2009, 08:40 AM
ellidew: thx for the recipe..it works out to 5 Weight Watchers points..that's more than i would generally allow myself for breakfast but if it keeps me full throughout the morning, i'm all for it! i'll try it!!

ellidew
04-07-2009, 08:47 AM
Mrs.Chappy - Buy a lower calorie yogurt. If you use WW vanilla yogurt (49 calories, 0 g fat, 4.8 g protein, 0 g fiber) the recipe would come out to be 177 calories, 3.75 g fat, 11.05 g protein, and 5.1 g fiber = 3 points!

LIZNKEITH
04-07-2009, 08:56 AM
That sounds really good, I may have to give it a try! At first glance, it falls within my nutritional parameters (my meals are supposed to have the following makeup- ~300 calories, ~26g protein, ~26g of carbs, ~10g of fat per meal). If I sub in my Fage and add some almonds it should bump the fat & protein up to where I need to be.

Yum, thanks!

Mrs.Chappy
04-07-2009, 08:58 AM
will do!!..WW yogurts are only one pt...i sometimes add Kashi to them so its just adding the pb and mixing it all up..i'm going to try the blender though..i'll report back!

Since I'm knee deep in my new Biggest Loser cookbook... and I'm sure you're all just thrilled everytime I post something new that I love (which seems to be daily now), thought I'd share a new 70 calorie snack! (1 point on WW) It's an easy one too!

Frozen Gramwiches

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e144/ellidew/frozen.jpg

1 sheet reduced fat honey graham cracker (60 cals, 2 fat, 1 fiber)
1 T Cool Whip Free (7.5 cals, 0 fat, 0 fiber)
Break graham cracker in half. Spread 1 T of Cool Whip over one half of the cracker. Top with the remaining squares to make a sandwich. Transfer to freezer safe airtight plastic container, cover tightly and place in the freezer. Freeze for at least 2 hours up to 1 month. Serve frozen.

Next time I make them I'm going to add some extracts. I couldn't find the chocolate or strawberry cool whip, maybe they're only out in the summer time? Do they make the flavored cool whip in the free version?

Anyway, I had it for a snack last night and it was really good! Enjoy!

Here's a really yummy pudding recipe that I got from one of my coworkers. I believe a 1 cup serving is 1 pt if you do WW.

Here’s that pudding recipe:

Here's a really yummy pudding recipe that I got from one of my coworkers. I believe a 1 cup serving is 1 pt if you do WW.

Here’s that pudding recipe:

1 container lite cool whip
1 can crushed pineapple (in its own natural juice - drained)
1 box sugar free fat free pudding (any kind)
1 can mandarin oranges (drain juice & cut up oranges)

mmmm... adding that to my list to try! So many options with fruit and pudding flavors!

Hello,
May I join back in?
It's been several months, and I've fallen off the wagon HARD!
While the weight only says a ~5-10pounds, I've basically lost all my muscle mass that I had gained back in October. My stomach scared my 4years old son. <-- Not happy about that.

So I'm back.
Today's my 1st day.
It's 6:41pm and I know I'm going to have issues at 8:30pm, since we ate dinner at 5:15pm - over 3hrs would have passed. I have yogurt, fruit, and diet soda to curb my need to snack. (It doesn't help that I have 6 cartons (1.5qts) of ice cream in my freezer - DH likes his sweets).

I went to Zumba class for the 1st time yesterday. Loved it; definitely going back.
So my exercise plan:
- Monday 5-6pm: Cardio class
- Wednesday 5:30-6:30: Zumba
- Friday 6-7: pilates
During the week, I'm getting my garden ready, and lots of yard work.
Our current house project is installing pre-finished hardwood floor so that keeps us busy on the weekends.

Re-joining. I've got 16 months (the big 4-0) to hopefully loose 50 lbs which would put me at the "normal" (ie no longer overweight) BMI. But right now my goal is just to see the scale say 19#. With my DD I didn't start dieiting until 8 months PP. I dropped all the initial weight and then didn't budge. This time I want to not take the "you need extra calories to BF" to such an extreme (ie a ticket to eat anything). I can't start exercising yet, but I want to be accountable for what goes in my mouth.

I had a really bad week - super stressed at work, too much work to do at night making it impossible to work out, Passover Seder on Thursday. I also find it really hard to eat healthy during Passover, I don't know what it is, because it's not like I normally eat tons of bread and pasta ... And, we have Easter dinner (DH is Baptist) on Sunday, and all of DS' candy lurking around the house. I guess I should be glad I didn't gain anything this week with all of that.

I currently am BFing my (almost) 1-year-old DD. We only nurse in the morning and at bedtime now. I've used that as my excuse for a while: "Oh, I'm still BFing, so I need to eat so I keep making the milk." Well, I know that's not really the case anymore, and if I ate BETTER it would be fine. Right now I have portion control problems -- I often eat everything on my plate when we go out to eat -- and I lack motivation to exercise. I go in streaks; one week I'll work out five times, and the next week I come up with excuses as to why I can't. I also love to eat -- Italian and Mexican are my favorites.

I typically lose weight fairly easily, so if I put my mind to it I know I can do it. I lost about 7 pounds a month or two ago when I started working out more, but I've stopped again (and luckily haven't gained any of the weight back). I'm hoping to find some motivation here to keep me going and not let me make excuses. I hope to check in frequently to track my exercise.

Hey, that's not bad at all! I'm hoping to stay even this week. DD's first birthday party is on Saturday, and I don't know how I'll be able to avoid all that yummy birthday party food!

No real exercise for me last night, but DH and I spent a few hours cleaning the (unfinished) basement. I used the push broom to sweep the entire floor, and it's about 2,000 square feet. I figure that was a decent amount of physical activity.

Thanks! I hear ya on exercise. I didn't get much of anything in last week because I had to bake and decorate a cake for a friends daughters 2nd birthday. So i baked wednesday and thursday night and decorated it on friday night for a party on saturday (where I ate some of the cake!). i had to bake through my usual workout time. This week I'm hopefully back on track though. I only have 7 weeks until vacation and I really want to average a 2 pound loss per week! I have to stop messing around! The Easter candy is going to find it's way to the trash can tonight! I have to make up for all the ounces I didn't lose last week!

Good luck!! Have a great time at your daughters birthday party!

Yup, just hang in there and keep doing what you're doing.
The last time I did a challenge, my weight stayed the same or went up and down 1# for over 5 weeks straight. I finally lost weight the last 2 weeks.
That's because my body was converting the fat weight into muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. So when the muscle mass tipped the fat mass, the muscles were burning more calories and I finally lost more.
Also, you should do body measurements. Even if the scale says the same weight, your clothes may be looser.

Hang in there.

As for me, I'm going to the gym in 1hr, so I'll weigh in.
Love my Zumba class; the instructor is freakin amazing. I don't know HOW she moves her body like that.
Been eating well. Snack today was fresh vine ripen tomato w/ mozz cheese and balsamic vinegar, and some almonds. Way better than crappy crackers.

This! The first 8 weeks of my 'diet' I only lost 6 pounds BUT I lost 11 inches (bust, waist, hips, thigh) All successes can't be measured on the scale.

So I guess my guess was a bit off. I'll consider 122.5 as my starting weight. I thought it was higher than that since my clothes are all so tight. But that's to show you that fat weighs less than muscle.

My Zumba class was amazing! I didn't know my body could move like that.
I can't wait to take my husband salsa dancing.

I'm using Fitday.com to log my food intake. I really like it because I usually put in what I think I'm going to eat that day, and depending on how many calories/fat/card/protein they add up to, I'll adjust by adding more protein or reducing the carbs, etc.
I'm trying to stick aroun 1300 cal a day, then ~2000 cal on Sunday (my cheat day).

Like last night ~1hr before bed, I wanted something to eat. My body wanted chips or dry cereal (way too much carbs), but my log already showed that I was over 1300 calories, so I ate an apple instead.

Night.

Thanks for the wisdom and encouragement. I'm going to wait until Monday to weigh again and hope for the best. Today is day 2 of being a SAHW and DH started going to the gym in the middle of the night (really 5:30am, but that's middle of the night to me) and I've been going with him. This morning was a spin class. It was full too! I'm so afraid I'll be super-bored, so I need to get a gameplan in place in case I feel the need to start snacking!

Argh. I told myself that I would step on the scale only once per week. Well, guess what I did this morning? I can't seem to lose any weight at all. Granted, this week had all the usual Easter treats.... I will come in tomorrow with my numbers.

I am expecting AF- has anyone else noticed that they weigh a little more in the week before AF? (Maybe this is just me trying to rationalize it all!)

lrl - I'm having an awesome loss week. Last week was af. I told dh just last night that this week and next week will be awesome then there will be the two weeks of af (before/during/after) when the scale wont budge. So, yes, i think there is some truth to that. Not to mention your uterus grows additional tissue leading up to af and that alone is going to weigh more. Keep up the work and try not to get discouraged.

OMG - I'M IN LOVE!

Another breakfast/snack idea: First of all, Fage with honey is freakin' awesome! Add a 1/4 cup Kashi Go Lean Crunch for protein, fiber and crunchiness and OMG a match made in snack heaven! The honey makes it incredibly sweet! What a treat!!!

I literally cleaned the plate with my finger! Seriously, who ever thought to put honey and yogurt together, genius! 180 calories for the yogurt and 46 for the Kashi. Enjoy!

DH and I eat this all the time. It is indeed excellent. We also add dried blueberries and a few almonds. Boosts the calories, but definitely tasty. In Greece, you can buy the plain yogurt that has honey and almonds in a little plastic cup on top. Like those yogurts in the grocery that have cookies or granola on top. It is very yummy!

Thanks for the well wishes - I can't believe how fast this weight has been falling off and I haven't changed my diet that much. I've tried to be more conscious of calorie counts and tried to cut down portions but I swear the exercise is what's really working. I just hope I can maintain once I get to my goal weight.

Anyone have some good book recommendations? I've exhausted the local library's supply of audiobooks and am looking for some recommendations to get through interlibrary loan. I swear the only thing I really "enjoy" about the treadmill workouts is the book I listen to. I almost look forward to working out just to see what's going to happen next.

What the heck?! Is the universe out of whack this week that we're all gaining or barely losing? Cheesh! Here I go again, up 1#. Hopefully that's converting fat into muscle weight, but we'll see...
AF is coming and all I want right now is chocolate.

The Zumba class is amazing!!! My butt muscles hurt and I didn't even know I had those muscles! My core/abs feel so strong and solid (under a layer of fat, but hey, I'll take it). I'm also doing Pilates (more core, etc), and gardening. But I need more cardio...maybe I'll start running. NOT!
I'll start riding my bike w/ the kids now that the weather is nicer.
I walked 4.5 miles pushing a stroller w/ 2 kids/bag to/from the start of the Boston Marathon, so that's something.

Nice weather makes people more active and drink more fluid (eat less) which is great BUT the scary part is that swimsuit season is coming up! Argh!

A giant THANK YOU!!! to Ellidew!!!!

On a bit whim, I decided to try the Frozen Gramwiches that you posted a while back. (I'm not a fan of Cool Whip and even less of a fan of FF Cool Whip!) Anyway, I made a few and put them in the freezer. They looked really good and tasted even better!!! Next time, I think I might add either fresh cut strawberries or even a few mini chocolate chips. These are great little desserts and definitely don't taste like 1 point!

I really don't understand it. This week I have: biked 12 miles, biked 5 miles, walked 3 miles, walked 7 miles, and today I will walk 7 miles. I've only done weights 2 or 3 days. Yet I keep gaining back whatever I lose. And we are going on vacation next week so I will be eating junk, though we will be walking a ton (Disneyland) so maybe it will balance out. I have one more weigh in before vacation, hopefully I can get back down again. At least I am still losing, even if it is really slow.

I think I am eating enough. I've tried staying within my calorie range, eating more, eating less... I've given up on SparkPeople, that site doesn't work for me anymore. According to them I should be losing 2 pounds a week. Ha!!!!! I've been at this since January and I cannot keep more than 6 pounds off. I tried South Beach and lost .5 pounds in the first week and a half, so I stopped. I might try again after vacation, but I'm stumped on this. So is my doctor. There is a nutrition counseling thing at my new gym, I might try that out if SB doesn't work.

Anna Low

Grenouille, maybe udsweetpea is onto something with the question of getting enough calories to sustain your metabolism. Perhaps it isn't how much you're eating, but rather what you eating. One of the things I've learned at WW is that your calories are best used in a good balance - lean protein, fruit/vegetable, complex carbs, etc., and limiting (for lack of a better description) the "junkier" foods. (100 calorie packs, lots of low fat snacky things, etc.) Maybe you're already doing this - I don't know. But if not, it might be worth a shot. Good luck!

Grenouille
04-24-2009, 03:47 PM
My diet is 90% good (100% whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, fruit, veggies, lean meat, small portions), 10% crap. When I was doing SB for that week and a half, it was 100% lean meat, cheese, veggies, beans, eggs. That was all I ate. I was counting calories too, keeping within the range Spark People gave me, and I didn't cheat at all. Since I'm going on vacation and won't be able to keep up with a diet I'm not worrying too much at the moment, but when we get back I'm going to reign myself in. I'll keep my portions small on vacation, I'm not going to go hog wild. But there is no way I could possibly do SB (or eat the way I eat at home) at Disneyland. At home I only have 100% whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, no prepared salad dressings, etc. They don't have those options there.

ETA: I don't mean to sound like an ass over this. I'm just frustrated beyond belief. So please don't take any offense to my tone. The frustration is totally not directed at anyone here.

Anna Low
04-25-2009, 09:23 AM
No offense taken by me! :) I totally understand, as I'm having the same kind of battle and the only thing that has kind of helped so far is to drastically reduce my carb intake. Other than cereal in the morning (Kashi), a bit of honey on my yogurt and my daily allocation of fruit, I eat my sandwiches breadless, have no baked type snacks and no pasta, regardless of what it's made of.

Have fun at Disney! They always have good food there and it seems like they have some healthy options.

I'm not officially weighing in yet but my frustration level is back up. So is my weight. I thought I would try more calories, maybe I wasn't eating enough, and I gained 3 pounds in 2 days. Guess that wasn't the problem. I'm thinking I need to stay at 1200 calories regardless of my activity level and have one reasonably portioned cheat meal per week. Right now I don't have the energy or will power to keep trying though. Maybe after vacation. I envy those of you who can lose a ton of weight just by going to the gym once or twice a week or just by eating smaller portions. That would be nice.

I hear you.
While you're 3inches taller than I am, I believe you may have the same problem as I do: when you're short, every pound matters.
Are you "big bone" or fragile/swan-like?
How do your clothes fit?
I've always been the athletic/stocky type, unlike my same-height friend who weighed LESS than I do when she was 9months pregnant.

1. I swear, what works for me is measurements. I measure ~10 parts of my body. As your body converts to muscle, you'll see the changes in the inches, not the scale. In fact, the scale may be going the wrong direction.

2. Can't remember what you're doing for exercise: have you tried interval training? One example is to run on the treadmill:
1 minute = as fast as possible (short of breath), then
2 minutes = fast walk (can talk)
Do this ~30 minutes.
Interval training jumpstarts your body from the same routine.

Hang in there!

Thank you for the pep talk :).

Problem is, I've done all of that and it still hasn't done anything. My measurements haven't changed since last October (if anything they have gotten bigger). I've done interval training with 5min intervals of incline/flat on the treadmill. When that got too easy I started running. I worked my way up to running 3.5 miles at a time. Nothing happened. The most I have lost this year is 8 pounds, but within 2 days (of continuing to diet and exercise) I gained 2 pounds that wouldn't go away. Same measurements, etc. And my clothing all still fits the same way. I've changed my workout routine, done heavy weights, changed my cardio, done high calorie burn days mixed with low burn days, tried South Beach, tried calorie counting (based on recommendations from Spark People) and I just go up and down and up and down.

Worst part is that 2 years ago I did all of this (less working out, actually) and easily dropped 20 pounds. I figured I could just do the same thing I had done before and it would work. But it hasn't. The ONLY thing I've done differently is have some really long walking days worked into my routine. But I thought mixing things up was supposed to be good, so you don't get into a rut.

I'm not totally giving up just yet. After vacation I'm going to start again and see what happens. I just don't know how many times I can keep starting over and hoping something works out.

Grenouille ~ I'm right there with you, except that even before I couldn't lose weight! I am short and have a stocky build, and just seem to keep losing and gaining the same 3 lbs with no bottom line change. My clothes fit better when I've lost the 3 lbs, but then I gain it right back. I've tried south beach, weight watchers, calorie counting, you name it I've tried it dietwise. Intervals, heavy weights, light weights, yoga, pilates, etc. I also work in a very stressful job with inconsistent hours, which makes it hard to stay consistent with diet and exercise - I'll have a good 3 weeks, but then get swamped at work and all bets are off and I've gained more than I've lost. It is hard and I am jealous of those who just have to make one small change to see a big difference too. I don't have any real solutions, just wanted you to know there are other people out there struggling with the same types of issues.

Grenouille,
I hear your frustration. Could it be that you are at your set point? If so, you may may yourself at a plateau for a few weeks before your body kicks in to gear. Frustrating, I know.

Also, I know you said you've been switching up your routines and I just wanted to elaborate on that. According to my nutritionist, you should tweak your workout every two weeks otherwise your body will get use to it. Currently, she has me doing 3 days of interval (same workout huango posted, but for at least 35 minutes and with incline- she swears by keeping it on an incline the whole time, preferably at 10-15% but there is no way in hell I can do that right now. I'm at 5% for interval) and 2 days of weights/resistance training (20-30 minutes) followed by at least 20 minutes of standard cardio (I usually do a brisk walk at 8% incline).

It may be close to what you're already doing, but I figured I'd share the information she's given me. Good luck, hope you break through this rut soon. :)

I was just thinking about your connundrum and thought I'd share my sisters story.

My sister recently gained about 20 pounds out of nowhere. She is a marathon runner, and eats pretty well for the most part. She went to see her doctor about the weight gain and after her doc did some blood tests she was told that she had several different issues. She has an underactive thyroid all of a sudden which is contributing to her weight gain. Also, a couple of months ago, she was given some steroid shots because she had some massive hair loss (due to stress), and the steroids interacted negatively with her BCP which she takes for PCOS. Long story short, maybe it could be a medicine interaction or an issue with your thyroid?

I went to the doctor and explained what was going on, and she took 5 vials of blood (I literally passed out after that) and everything is fine. She suggested SB or WW. I told her I tried that already. So it isn't a medical issue.

I've been on this "plateau" for 4 months, so I don't think that's it. I am overweight. I'm not in the normal range for my height, I don't have a normal BMI. I am overweight by 10 (highest end of normal range) to 20 pounds.

My trainer said to change things up every 6-8 weeks, so that's what I have been doing. Seems like everyone has a different opinion on how often to change things up, so I'm guessing there is no "right" amount of time. The bottom line is to change it up and I have. I did incline interval training for a while, walking and running interval training for a while, biking and running, and biking and walking. 2-3 days of weights per week, also, changing the exercises I do every 6-8 weeks.

My body is sore from the work-outs, gardening, and kid activities (walked all over the zoo today pushing a double stroller).

Grenouille~I haven't really had any advice to give (so haven't posted), but I did want to let you know that I'm pretty well in the same spot. I've been stuck here for several months (both before and after my pgcy) and finally went to see the dr. Like you, everything came back normal. I think I'm going to follow my SP program to the letter rather than just stick to my calorie range and see if that helps. *shrug* Hope you figure something out that works for you.

I'm really starting to get annoyed- I busted my arse this week. Going in to the weekend I was down almost 2 pounds. The kickers is even though we had 3 parties to go to on Sunday (and I did cheat a bit), I wasn't really bad.

I'm just pissy because despite the fact I've had a sinus infection for 3 weeks now and have felt like crap, I still pushed myself to get on the treadmill and do 3 hardcore workouts this week. And for what??

I can relate to this. Other than finding the sheer will power to overcome the days of eating too much I find that adding an extra weigh in day breaks up the cycle and makes me more aware. It's an idea if you haven't tried it.

I have weigh-in in about 7 hours and I'm super excited to weigh in! I should show a 2 pound loss or close to it AND since af is here I already have an awesome jump start on next week!! So far I love alli and a new website I joined ($9 a month) myfooddiary.com - It's super fast to log foods. I don't know if weight watchers has improved there site since I was last on there but it was soooo slow when i was a member years ago. Same with la weightloss. This is the first site i've found that I think works well. I love how it breaks down the calories and gives you little tidbits of info like - If you eat like this everyday then you'll lose x amount per week, you'll weigh x amount in 1 month and x amount in 3 months. It's a real motivator! It's not free though so that's probably a deal breaker for some people.

I only have 4.5 weeks until our beach vacation so I'm busting my butt until then!!

Good luck to everyone still weighing in this week!

I joined Stroller Strides when my DS was about 4 months old and lost all my baby weight (down to 150, which is about where I was pre-pg) but then I got lazy and gained back to where I was 6 weeks Post-partum.
I've been going to the gym for about 2 months now and trying to get into running. I've lost about 3lbs since I Started exercising again and am getting a little more motivation. I just got 4 new workout DVDs today and am excited about something different.

Well, at least I maintained on vacation. I feel like I lost, though, so I'm a bit confused. Also, I weighed in on my other scale and according to that I've lost 2 pounds. But the scale I have been using more often (because it used to give me lower numbers ;)) says I have maintained. So who knows what's up. Also I haven't officially worked out in a week, so I have probably lost muscle. 2 pairs of pants that I brought on vacation were falling off of me so maybe I did lose? Who knows.

Not sure what happened with that weight loss. I have no idea where that came from but I'm going to up my calorie intake from now on to be sure I'm not eating too little. In honor of that, we're having tacos tonight and I'm going to enjoy a little sour cream as a treat!

Congrats kanga!! That's awesome!!

I'm SOOOOOOO nervous to weigh in tonight! I have no idea why I just am. My scale at home hasn't really budged. I was really hoping to get to the 20 pound loss mark. I was only .3 away from it last week and now i'm nervous about not making it. I was really hoping for a stellar performance and a 3 pound loss to be in the 100's. I guess that will have to wait until next week or the week after. boo. It's the last week of my health class session (another one starts in a few weeks) so we'll redo all of our measurements which is always a nice boost of confidence. Inches are just more powerful sounding than pounds. I don't know why. So here's hoping that at least goes well! Wish me luck!!

Thought i'd share my latest snack since I haven't bored you all with new foods/recipes recently ;) - Carrots dipped in salsa! Seriously, doesn't sound like it'd work but it does and since it's just carrots and salsa, low in calories!! At health class we used celery too but I prefer carrots. I think it's the crunch, makes you think you're eating a chip when you're not. Enjoy!!

Yup, back down to my starting weight. 2 steps backward and 2 steps forward.
Someday I'll lose some weight.
But right now, my clothes fit a bit better. One morning, I slipped on my size 2 jeans, w/out any struggle or shimmying into it. It was so easy to put on, I thought I was putting on some other pair of jeans (the size 6 ones).
I'm telling you: that Zumba class plus Pilates is really working for me.

I love WW. It is (at least for me) the only program out there that helps you to eat with what you have vs. having to buy prepackaged meals or strict diets. Then had a weird stomach thing again Sunday/Monday. Am back on track today and have pledged to keep up with the food tracking on Spark and the exercise, those are the only things that make a difference.

EA Sports Active vs. Wii Fit (http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/ea-sports-active-vs-wii-fit-which-is-the-biggest-loser-/1315542) - Has anyone tried this game? I was thinking about getting Wii Fit, but if others are finding that this works better, I may rethink it.

Also, please SKIP me again this week. :(

ooh, tgr... we just got a wii last week. I like the looks of that. Everyone i know that has the fit says they don't use it very often. I'll be interested to hear if there are any reviews.

Most of the people I know with a Wii Fit said the novelty wore off after a month and they never use it.

I'm also skipping this week. Went to my mother's again and although cake wasn't involved, she just doesn't understand how I now eat. She uses a lot of salt when she cooks - so much so that the night I came back, my ankles were visibly swollen. This has never happened to me (except after 23 hours on an airplane) so I know that it had to be what I ingested.

I'm just over 38w with DD and have been avoiding the scales for a few weeks now. According to the MW scale I've gained 35lbs so I still feel good about my gain. With DS I gained 50 and I doubt in the next two weeks I will gain 15lbs but still. I will be back as soon as DD is born so I can lose this baby weight. I'm also joining WW meetings (already an online member) when DD is 6 weeks or so. Good luck every one!! Can't wait until I can get serious and have my body back!! LOL!

Hola,
I forgot to post last week; my weigh-in date got switched.
I'm sure I'm not doing well for this week's weigh-in (tomorrow) since we had DS's 5th bday party on Saturday, and we've been eating cake/cupcakes since then. (Well, been eating cupcakes since the Thursday before, since I made cupcakes for his preschool class). Oh well. And I can't find more time to work out because my work is pretty busy right now.

Anyone been clothes shopping recently? Do they have wacky sizes or what?
I just purchased 2 skirts and 2 pair of pants. The skirts are size XS and pants are size 2.
IMPOSSIBLE. They must have changed the sizing (no I do not shop for myself).
I have a pair of Calvin Klein jeans that are size 4 that fits exactly like these new pants.
Something is crazy here...

In the last few weeks I've been eating more sugar/carbs so my post-partum flat tummy has turned flubby again. I saw some pics taken over the weekend - not pretty.

I am recommitting myself to this this week - Dieting while BFing is so incredibly hard. I am hungry all the time and hungry for crap. My maternity leave officially ended today though I will be WFH for 6 weeks - I plan on "packing my lunch" and attempting to count points. I really hope to be below 200 when I return to work.

I was pretty happy with this week's weigh-in, especially being I had my baby shower Saturday and was at a birthday party for 5 people Sunday... both held at my SIL's, who always makes a TON of food for every event. I think putting in my garden Monday helped burn a lot of the calories off!

Wow: I lost a total of 0.5 pounds in 8 weeks. Woohoo! (sad, really).
But hey, it's better than a gain.

Now off to compost the cupcakes. It feels so wrong to throw away good food but I can't have these linger here anymore! (I microwaved one last night and the chocolate chips were melting inside and the chocolate frosting on top was so creamy and smooth!) argh...

I had a hard time getting over this but I don't have a problem with it anymore. I'm sorry but if it stays in my house it goes in MY stomach, not my husbands, not ds', mine. I eat it until it's gone. Now when I find something I really like and find myself indulging too much it goes down the garbage disposal. I suck and I don't care :)

I'm really disappointed in myself. :( Now that the weather is getting nicer, I find that it's actually more difficult to find time to squeeze in my workouts, and I tend to blow things on the weekends by not eating as well and splurging on a few cocktails. I really need to buckle down again.
