View Full Version : Please help - Baby won't take bottle!!
My DD is 3.5 months. She got her first bottle (pumped milk) at 4 weeks. She took it, reluctantly. (DH gave it to her.) We were offering her a bottle of pumped milk every few days and she would take it fine. It became harder to offer her the bottle consistently, and now she absolutely refuses it. My mother has tried, DH has tried, and nothing works. I'm desperate. Does anyone have any tricks/advice? We have been offering it to her everyday with no luck. I know she's hungry when we are giving it to her, but she just screams. Any success stories?

There's a good long thread on this very topic already! :)

Have you been around when the bottle is offered? Some babies can tell when mama is nearby and they prefer to get their milk from 'the tap'. Also, are you offering when she's hungry? If she's already annoyed by hunger, and then further annoyed by the bottle, it might lead to these negative results. If you can try when she's not really clamoring for food yet, maybe an hour after she's eaten or so, that might work out a little better.

ITA with Marisa that you should not be in the area.
Also, try different bottles. My DD2 was extremely picky about bottles, and would not take one unless it was the 4 ounce Playtex Drop In with fast flow latex nipple. I know a lot of babies at the daycare who were refusing bottles, and when I mentioned what finally worked for my own DD, the parents tried that same combo and it worked like a charm.
