I'm not going to post my stats to officially joing just yet due to my miscarriage in November - I'd like to make sure things are going to be OK first! basically just subscribing!
I thought about it last night- if there are only a few of us, maybe it might make sense to hook up with another month? maybe November?
My EDD will be 10/31/09- hopefully another baby boo for me!! (I call my DS Boo all the time-I have no idea why!)

I'm so excited! It's taken us 2 1/2 years to get to this point (w/ a year long break when we pursued adoption, but the wait extended too far so we stopped it - from 3 years to 5-6 years) and I can't believe we are finally going to be able grow our family! Congrats to everyone!

Congratulations to everyone!
~How is everyone feeling? Any symptoms yet for the new mommies?
Does anyone have any appointments coming up?

Thanks Pookie and Eloo!
mcgwigan, join when you are ready! I have everything crossed for you! I also thought about joining up with another group. Maybe we will get a few more. What does everyone else think?
I don't really have any symptoms yet! Just the occassional cramp and also a few headaches. I have been visiting the loo at LOT more though! Even waking up once a night!
BsstGirl, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That is amazing news!! It took us about a year and a half and 2 IVFs to get this BFP so I can relate. We are just lucky that insurance covered it or who knows when we could have done it.
Me: I had my 1st u/s today and they saw 2 sacs! I am still in shock (the good kind!) and very excited but also worried that they both make it. One measured right at 5w5d and you could even see a very faint HB but theyother you could only see a sac, which I guess is more typical. She also said the larger one was too low near my cervix and she hoped it moved up so I am worried about that, even though she didn't really seem to be.
Well, here they are!

Congrats everyone!!!
Symptoms? Not many at all. My boobs are crazy sore but that's about it. My mom and all three of her sisters never got morning sickness, so I'm hoping the same will be true for me, too!
I've had two appointments already - one was just confirming the pregnancy and the other was a "first OB" class, where we toured the hospital, met the doctor, talked about general 'you're pregnant - now what?' type things. My first real appointment with the doctor is on March 26, which seems like forever away! It'll be a full on comprehensive appointment, with a physical, ultrasound, etc.
I'm really happy but am still keeping it real. I know it's really early and I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but I know that things can go wrong, so I'm trying to not get *too* excited just yet (although it's been tough not to!).
Oh, and I would be totally fine with merging with either September or November... whatever works best. I'm due in the middle of the month, so could go either way!
NotDesperate - Congrats on your two babes!! That's so cool! Forgot to add: My birthday is Oct. 21.... it's a great day to be born! :D
Bsstgirl - What a ride! I'm so happy for you!!
mcgwigan and ali_ohil - I hope you are able to 'officially' join us soon!

NotDesperate Yay!! Twins-wow!! I've heard of many not even seeing the second sac until their second ultrasound, so I wouldn't worry about the second one just yet! When will you go for the next ultrasound?
Tracie Too cool that you have an Oct b-day and having an Oct baby! My Dh's Birthday is in October as well -10/3!
ali I hear you on chasing a toddler around-mine just turned 1. I have not had the exhaustion set it, but am waiting anxiously for it. The more symptoms for me the better!
I was only suggesting joinging November because I am a Feb mommy and was due at the end of the month with that one too. Everyone else got to have their ultrasounds and stuff before me-it was torture being one of the last to be able to "do stuff"! LOL! If we joined November then we wouldn't have to be tortured with reading about all the cool stuff before we got to experience it! Guess we'll see if anyone else joins us first, like ND said though!

mcgwigan, Thanks. I hope you are right! She said everything looked as it should but I couldn't help comparing the two.

NotDesperate - Thanks we are so excited! Which means you must be ecstatic w/ seeing twins! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that they both stick.
TracieB - I hear you on the not wanting to get too excited yet. I've been paranoid to tell too many people and not wanting to jinx myself. It seems to good to be true still.
mcwigan & ali_ohli - I hope you both join us soon! Crossing my fingers for you!
I have my first official appointment with my regular OB next Tuesday (3/3), I've already had 3 blood tests and 1 ultrasound w/ my RE and he's okayed me to release to my regular Dr now.
As far as symptoms I'm am just exhausted now, I seem to hit a wall around 2pm everyday and on weekends take a 2-2 1/2 hour nap at that time (wish I could during the workweek). My boobs are really sore and I finally broke down and bought maternity bras this weekend to try to help with some of that, plus they grown already a bunch. I've had mild cramping off and on ever since the insemination took place (I took Clomid and we did insemination), nothing major just some mild twinges here and there. No morning sickness, which I hope I skip as my mom said she never had it either. I have had some brown spotting about a week ago and a couple of weeks before that, my RE wasn't worried and said it's pretty common and as long as it's not red I'm fine.

Hi guys,
I'm not officially joining yet either...
had 2 MC's in a row a few months ago so I'm very cautious.
I'm feeling like CRAP! Ahh.... DD is having a meltdown as we speak.
I'll be back later.

Symptoms - Some exhaustion. I got some good sleep last night and that has seemed to help today. I seem to wake up and then take like an hour to get back to sleep. I think that I need to make sure I eat in the morning before I get to work. I have noticed that if I wait I don't feel well for most of the morning. Not sick but just not well. Sore boobs too.....
I had my first doctor's appointment on Monday. It was just a confirmation visit. He said my cervix was purple and I'm pregnant. The 10 tests told me that. I guess that I get to hear the heartbeat at the next appointment.
ND - Congrats on the twins. That is great. We have twins that run in our family on both sides. So we will see. I feel that it is only 1. Did you say you are a twin as well?
I told work already. My work tends to gossip and I wanted to prevent that. Plus, I just couldn't hold it in any longer.
My next appointment is March 23rd.

I have a very complicated obstetrical history, so we're taking this one day at a time. My bout of MS hit this morning. I was a few miles away from work and just about puked in my car. Luckily I made it to work and made a b-line to the bathroom. Luckily, there were mints to freshen the breath. I did switch prenatal vitamins so that could be the culprit.
I was up at 4:15 to potty and I couldn't get back to sleep. I am having that problem more and more. This time I wanted to fall asleep right before the alarm went off. So I got up to eat because I wasn't feeling that well. Took a shower and felt better. At least until right before I got to work.
Now I am just tired and want to go to bed. I hope I don't feel that way tomorrow morning. Off to watch the hockey game and go night night.

KLU Sorry about the morning sickness. The prenatals could be it-also if you have a totally empty stomach & eat too much (or anything ) that culd do it! I hope it doesn't get bad for you!
Tracie We'll try to be helpful!!
Time passes so slowly to me! I can not wait for my first appointment-still 2 weeks away! I don't have an ultrasound scheduled & it will probably be like pulling teeth to get on ordered when I go for my appointment! That's one thing I miss about seeing an RE!

Wow, K-L-U, that sucks. Sorry the m/s hit! I hope it was a 1 time thing. I heard eating something light (even a few crackers) the very first thing helps but it sounds like it was not beingover hungry that caused it for you. :( You should keep a barf bag in your car (lol sorry) and maybe some candied ginger.
I have definitely been getting up to potty once a night but the worst is when it is an hour or two before the alarm goes off because that is when I just lay there and can't go back to sleep. It sucks!
mcg, Maybe you can convince your OB to give you an u/s based on your history? I have a friend who was able to do that. Good luck and I hope the next 2 weeks fly by.

02-27-2009, 05:06 AM
ND I'm sure they'll let me have an ultrasound, but they don't have machines in their offices, so they send you to the hospital, but sometimes you have to wait a couple weeks to get it. Last time I was pg we saw the heartbeat at 6w5d or 7 w and discovered a missed miscarriage at almost 10 weeks-the baby hadn't grown past that initial ultrasound, so I am hoping to wait a bit longer for the initial ultrasound this time anyway!

ali_ohli - Officially welcome and congrats!
mcg - I hope your son gets better soon, I'm sure that temp is a scary one to see.
K-L-U - ooh, I'm sorry about the ms, maybe it was just a one time thing or the car ride that caused it.
I caved and told everyone at work yesterday. I had already told my boss on Monday (she knew all we were going through and was very excited), but I couldn't hold it in any longer and told everyone else on my team yesterday. I didn't think I could keep it a secret any longer and they were all so excited and happy for us!

K-L-U
02-28-2009, 06:25 AM
mcgwigan - Luckily it was only one day bout of MS. I think it might have been the new prenatal pill. The wait for the first doctor's appointment is horrible. I called on 2/5 and my appt was set for 2/23. UGH!! I feel your anxiousness.
ND - You have not been the first one to suggest the barf bag in the car. As gross as it sounds it must just happen. I was about to pull over but I was so close to work. I was glad that I was the only one there. I hear you on the getting up to potty and then I am awake. That has been my problem from day 1.
Bsstgrl - I have caved and told people at work. It has been a relief. I don't think everyone knows but my department does. My lead (who used to be my supervisor) gave me a hug. I was afraid of how people would take it. At least upper management. So far so good.
Thursday night I went to bed at 7 and woke up at 5. That morning I was up at 4:15 and went to the bathroom and couldn't fall back asleep. I was so exhausted.
Has anyone had cravings yet?

I definitely am hungrier. I have craved ice cream and peanut butter. I got DH to go get me some ice cream and it was oh so tasty. Though anytime I think of food it sounds good. Lunch was hard. Spag, grilled cheese, calzone...I wanted all of them. I went for the grilled cheese with tomato soup.

I'm hungrier also. What kind of snacks have you guys stocked up on? I have yogurt, cheese (that I cut up into cubes for easy snacking), bananas, milk (with a bit of chocolate syrup), chips and salsa and those are about it. I can't wait till summer when fruit is in season.

03-01-2009, 03:04 PM
Snacks - Trail mix, crackers, fruit (grapes, strawberries, bananas), jello.. I never thought of milk with a little chocolate syrup. Though my stomach cannot handle much milk. I got cherios for breakfast this week. Today for a snack (right before lunch) I had celery with peanut butter. I should probably get some string cheese next week.
Tony (my DH) and I had our monthly game night at a friends house. We got home just a little after 1. Went to bed and woke up at like 6 something. Couldn't get back to bed so I went into the spare room with out futon and slept till 9:30. Just got done with a 3 hour nap...I need to get up and move around.. I feel so lethargic. I really haven't felt all that great today. I have realized it is very hard the next day if I stay out the night before. It just wears me out.

OH, lord. I am so sick! This is my third pregnancy and this is by far the sickest I've been. It's like I've had a miserable hangover for -- oh -- two weeks now. Tonight all I could stomach was pretzels, ginger ale and pineapple. And poor DS has been watching a sickening amount of TV, but I don't have the energy to do anything else with him. Ugh. I hope it passes soon!

Oh man, ali, that sucks!!!!! I really hope it passes soon, too. Don't worry about DS watching TV- it is not hurting him and soon he will have a baby brother or sister to play with!
:D:D aww... just wanted to wish you all luck from an October 2008 mommy! Enjoy this time, it is awesome (well, once you pass the first tri!!).... and Motherhood is INCREDIBLE.

ali Sorry you are so sick-I hope it passes soon! Don't feel bad about the TV-my 1 year old has been watching waaaay too much-but he's been sick all the past week & it helps to calm him down when he's upset!
snacks whatever I can find-yogurt is a big one, I've been home the past 4 days with my DS since he was sick and I hate to say it, but I've eaten all the leftovers from dinners. I'd have leftover mac-n-cheese at 10am for a snack! I was going to weigh myself yesterday and skipped it. I think that I'm eating more than I usually would out of nervousnesss more than anything. My belly is showing it-oops!
I'm now coming down with hopefully just a cold. My DS had croup with a high temp last week & I'm just praying I don't end up with a fever. I've been taking regular strength tylenol & trying to drink lots. I would have loved to stay home today, but my sick days are dwindling at a rapid pace. For you first time mommies- enjoy your pregnancies & take your sick time for yourself. It's not allowed once you have a little one!:p

03-03-2009, 05:33 AM
I think I spoke too soon. For the past two days, I've had that "sea sick" feeling. It sucks!!! I think eating something makes it go away, but only temporarily.
Other than that, not much to talk about right now. My appointment was switched to March 25, up one whole day, so I'm stoked! I want to see a heartbeat and then maybe this whole thing will feel real to me. It's weird, everyone keeps asking me if I'm happy, and I am, but at the same time, I'm scared to death and wondering what I got myself into. Is that normal?
Snacks - oranges (I live in Sicily and it's blood orange season - so yummy!!!), Lorna Doone 100 calorie packs, grapes. I did give in to my craving and had a bagel with a TON of cream cheese this morning. Man, oh man, was it good. I can't do that all the time though! I am a quasi-vegetarian and am desperately trying to up my protein intake. It's tough. :( I saw on the bagel packaging that it had 10 grams of protein, so maybe my little indulgence wasn't so bad. :p
Everybody - Hope you're all doing well and feeling good! I'll do shout-outs later!!

03-04-2009, 01:18 PM
ND - I'm so happy you saw both heartbeats! That's great news!
Tracie - I get that feeling too when my stomach is empty, eating something definitely helps me.
We had our first official visit with my regular OB office yesterday and all looks good. I have another visit in about 3 weeks and we'll have another ultrasound then (first one was w/ RE) to check everything and we should be able to hear the hb then too! I'm feeling much better again after going to the Dr. I start to get a little anxious leading up to it, just hoping that it's all looking good!
Snacks - I'm trying to get in fruit in the morning, I've been having some almonds in the afternoon too. I'll admit that I'm caving into most cravings I'm having (really have a lack of discipline on myself) but luckily there haven't been too many and really after a few bites of something I'm not really hungry anymore. For meals I'm getting full quicker and usually can't finish my dinner at night. Is anyone else having that happen?
I'm also having my first aversion to food. I can't stand the thought of eating any seafood. Shrimp or crab really does not appeal to me right now, and living in FL there is shrimp everyone I'm now noticing.

BsstGrl, congrats on getting the "all good" from your OB! I'm not really having specific aversions but some nights the thought of eating what I planned makes me feel ill so on those nights I ended up having cereal. :o My only real craving has been fast food! I haven't been getting full faster, in fact I am a lot more hungry now.

Hi guys! I am ecstatic to say that it went wonderfully! I had an ultrasound and got to see what looks like a mini dragon growing inside of me. It was so nice to hear the heartbeat too....it brought tears to my eyes. My OB said we're not out of the woods yet & that the chance of MC goes down after he can hear the heartbeat w/his stethoscope, probably at 10 wks or so. I've had 3 previous miscarriages and this is the farthest along I've gotten (besides my DD) so I'm feeling pretty good about it.
Anyways, thanks for asking! I guess I could probably officially join. Have a wonderful weekend. We're off to some princess/dance birthday party and praying I don't need to suddenly take a nap in the middle of it. I've been having horrible insomnia like I did w/DD and it's really rough.

Been a while since I posted in here. I get home from work and the last thing I have wanted to do is get on the computer. My energy is back up because I am able to go on my runs. The weather has been beautiful the past couple of days so I have been taking my runs outside. I am taking it easy because I am still scared that something will happen. It is amazing how that never goes away.
Has everyone asked you a million questions? I keep getting "Are you going to find out the sex?" Tons of questions. We haven't researched much because I think that we are just so overwhelmed that we are just taking it one step at a time.
I won a baby basket through my doctor's office. That was cool. Some stuff was ok and others will be helpful later down the road.

Amyinlosangeles - Congrats on the doctor's appointment. I hope this one stays sticky for you.
Today I got out for a run before all this rain decides to come through. It is also going to bringing in a cold front. We grilled out with chicken and hamburgers last night. We were going to light the fire pit but then not everyone came over. So we just watched the hockey game with my dad instead. It would have been better if the Blues had won.
We don't have much planned today. I have laundry to do and that is it. Hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday.

amy Glad your appointment went well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all us us to have long & healthy pregnancies!!
KLU Cool about winning the baby basket!! No one's asked questions here because no one knows!:p Get used to it though! I found when I was pregnant that people asked stuff all the time-not just-are you finding out the gender, but just general, How are you feeling, is everything going well, etc.
My first appointment is on Friday & it can't get here soon enough. It's not enough that I'm nervous in general, but I've been sick for like a week - as in a cold/sinus infection that will not go away! It makes me worry more! Anyone else have any appointments coming up this week?
NotDesperate

KLU- sounds like a fun weekend! I just get the "how are you feeling" questions so far, not many people know.
Mcgwigan- Your very 1st appointment is on Friday? Wow, good luck! That will be exciting! I do have my weekly u/s tomorrow. I am *loving* these weekly ultrasounds! I don't like the copay every week but at least I get another look at the babies!
Is anyone else's pants getting tighter? I am already wearing a bella band because my pants are so tight! This weekend we had dinner at my parents and my dad told me that I was already sticking out in the front! And DH said he noticed it too and feels it when we hug. I am just so bloated. It can't be the babies, what are they, like the size of blueberries??
mcgwigan
03-09-2009, 11:14 AM
ND Yes, my pants are definately getting tighter...the weight is coming on very easily with me, I think because I was so recently pregnant! I would think with twins you would definately show a lot sooner-yes the babies are teeny tiny, but your uterus is getting bigger & moving up and your body is making way for them!
I'm hoping that I can get out of the first trimester in my regular pants, but I don't think that's realistic!

I feel like pooh. Now I know why women shouldn't work (is that sexist?). It's incredibly difficult to wake up every day after a long night of tossing, turning, and waking up to pee every 2 hours. Then to get up and feel nauseous for the next 15 hours until you can FINALLY crawl back into bed again, only to repeat the cycle. Aaaah, the miracle of life. If only DH could join in the fun. Oh, and just to make things extra fun, I have the absolute worst taste in my mouth all the time. It's GREAT! I can't wait for the second trimester!

Welcome, Maniach! Sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope you are better soon! How were you with DD?
Had another U/S today and things are still great. There was one moment though where my heart sank and she scared me half to death because she said Baby B was measuring at 7w2d, which is a week behind and only 1 day ahead of where it was after last week's u/s. But then she re-measured a couple times and came up with 8w2d. Baby B is hard to measure because it is higher up and the u/s wand tip is so far away from it. Whew!!!!!! Man, was I scared! So baby B is 8w2d and baby A is 7w6d, which is what I am today so yay, he/she caught up!!! She/he was 2 days behind!

KLU - I'm impressed you've been able to do some running! I just don't have the energy for much of anything. Even when we go to Target on the weekends, by the time we're done I'm ready to go home for a nap!
mcgwigan - You're appointment is almost here! My pants really aren't fitting well anymore either and this is my first. I also hope your cold goes away soon!
ND - That's great news! I'm glad they re-measured and found they are both growing wonderfullyl!
I can't button my pants anymore, actually haven't been able to for a couple of weeks now. I've been wearing those belly bands to get by for a few more weeks before buying all new clothes. I feel like I wear the same things now every week since only so many pants I can pull off and only so many shirts are now big enough for my belly and boobs.

mmisabel Oh! Congratulations! Boy, you are good at keeping a secret, huh? Wishing you (all of us actually) a h&h 9 months! I don't think I've given my stats since I didn't "officially" join yet, but my name is Megan too!
I'm just counting down to my appointment tomorrow & hope that they can get me in for an ultrasound tomorrow too...I'd sure like confirmation that everything is OK!

Bsstgrl - I haven't gotten much running in this week. I have just been too exhausted. I think it is the time change. Throwing me way off.
I am very excited tomorrow is Friday. This week has just been so slow at work. BLEH!!
Mmisabel - congrats.....
McGwigan - good luck at your appointment tomorrow. Mine is not until the 23rd...I think that is why my weeks feel so slow.

I'm sick. Blech. I have a low fever. I am trying to keep it low with Tylenol and keeping covered up. I called the doc and they said it's not a big deal, but it's still worrisome.
I'm glad all of you are doing well with good u/s results and strong heartbeats. I have an u/s later today so hopefully I will be able to post similar news!

first-time mom and mrs spencer - Thanks!
mcgwigan - Yes, I was pretty good at keeping this quiet. For some reason I (stupidly) felt if I "outed" myself too soon I'd jinx it. I still don't feel out of the woods yet, but I was dying to join a group! Glad the appointment went well. Sorry you have to wait a whole week for the u/s. At least they'll be able to see a little more then.
ND - Thanks for the info! Have people discussed combining months (either joining with September or November)? These moms groups have gotten so much smaller, it might be fun to have more people.
KLU - the time change threw us and our DS off. Sleeping's been hell!!
maniach - good luck today!!
Me - I've been really tired with some nausea in the evening. This is pretty much exactly how I felt with DS. I go on 3/17 to see the midwife and again 3/31 to see the OB. I'm eager to schedule my NT scan.

mmisabel, Yes we discussed it but never made a decision. Nobody really had a preference either way. Do you all want to vote on it? I have a feeling we will get a lot of "I don't cares"!
mcgwigan, glad everything went okay at the OB! One more week till the u/s!
maniach, I'm sick too! I started getting a sore throat yesterday but otherwise felt fine. The same thing happened a couple weeks ago and I think it was just sore because of drainage due to the excess mucous produced in pregnancy. Yuck! But I don't know if it is that this time because I am starting to feel a little achey and I had a slight fever this morning. I took Tylenol, too. I hope you feel better soon!
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

mmisabell I know what you mean about being afraid to "jinx" it. I have only told 2 people IRL, my babysitter and 1 friend at work. Not even my mom. I'm on the fence about when to tell everyone else.
joining with another month: I guess I'd be kind of in favor-I'm in the more, the merrier camp...but wouldn't want a group so big that we couldn't remember who is who! Maybe we could wait to see how many people end up in the November group?
ND You almost sound like how I felt last week...I hope you feel better soon!

03-13-2009, 03:08 PM
Well, my vote is to join in with another month. I think my group for DS had like 40 moms, it was a bit much but I think to get good discussions going we'd want more than we have. November mom's are just getting their BFP's so maybe we could post a thread asking if they just want to join us here?? Either way I'm fine with it.
mcgwigan - we haven't told anyone IRL, except my dentist and chiropractor ;). If my appointment Tues goes well and we hear the hb we might tell immediately family only. Everyone else will find out after the NT scan. Untelling people is just too painful so I don't want to risk it!

I think that we should join with the November mommies. 7 members have officially joined and I think we have a few waiting to join. So we might get up to 10 soon and a few joining later. I know that we keep up this thread good now but I think adding another month will get this thread kickin...JMO...

mcgwigan
03-14-2009, 03:31 PM
No-I just searched and there's no November 09 mommy thread yet. We'll just have to wait to see if they start one up & then go in and ask if they want to combine....maybe some might be stalking in here and would come forward?

Hi all, thanks for the well wishes! My appointment yesterday went well. We could see the embryo and the yolk sack and the heart was beating strongly at around 140 bpm. I'm relieved, for some reason I have been particularly worried with this pregnancy. I still feel pretty icky, but I'm doing a little better. The worst is the mucous drains down my throat and makes me gag, which combined with morning sickness isn't a good time. I'm heaving all over the place (not vomiting so much, just heaving).
I don't mind joining up with another month either. Maybe if no one comes forward we can just change the name of this thread to October and November 09 Mommies? Just a thought, I don't even know if you can do that.

Wow! Welcome to all the new members.
Tracie - we were in the m/c thread together. Congrats!!
tired - yep!! It's actually letting up a little, but I'm still exhausted. I work 12 hour nights also, so it doesn't really help!!
showing - in the evening I'm ridiculous, so I know there is some bloat involved. Since my wardrobe consists of scrubs, sweats and a pair of low riding jeans I haven't opted for maternity yet! ;) I'm sure people have noticed, but I really don't care. We might tell immediate family soon, but everyone else after the NT scan.
NT scan - who else is doing it? I was doing OK not worrying about it and my mom just told me a friend's daughter gave birth to a baby with Down's yesterday, which sent me back into a tizzy.
I had my 10 week appoinment yesterday. She was able to find the hb with the doppler. It took a little bit of time and I was definitely freaking out!! What a sweet sound when we finally heard it!
My NT scan is 3/30 and we scheduled my big u/s for 5/19

DH wanted to get "all the tests" this time, so I am getting the NT, too. I don't really care to get it, because it's not going to change my mind about the pregnancy or anything, so I don't really see the point. I guess it's good to be prepared, but the thing only detects Down's in 50% of cases anyway, so it's not completely reliable. Not to mention if there were something really wrong I think they'd be able to tell at the big u/s. Regardless, my NT is on April 10.
Apparently my last doc checked for CF and sickle-cell and I'm not a carrier, so I don't have to worry about those. I do have cats so they are going to check for whatever that thing is that they have that I can't remember the name of right now. Cat scratch fever, lol.
I have started telling everyone. It's not fun when people are telling you that you look like pooh and you can't provide a reason, lol.
Congrats on hearing the hb with the Doppler! I think I will be nicely relieved when they can hear it through that also.
mcgwigan
03-18-2009, 05:19 PM
mmisabel Congrats on a good appointment & hearing the heartbeat! Yay!! I'm getting the NT scan done, the appointment hasn't been scheduled yet because they'll wait until after my first ultrasound on Friday to schedule it. If I get red flags from the NT then I may do an amnio-it depends on the outcome of the NT. With my DS all the odds were so low for him having downs or anything else that I didn't do amnio. I don't want to do amnio unless there's a really good reason to!
Pinkie Congratulations!
mmisabel
03-19-2009, 07:08 AM
I agree that the NT isn't the most reliable test under the sun. But I also know I'd rather detect something horrible like anancephaly or trisomy 18 sooner at 12 weeks rather than at 18 weeks. I'm with you mcwigan I may get an amnio depending on the results (they'd have to be worrisome). Hopefully it won't be an issue. With my DS I never even considered I'd get an amnio. I only did the AFP with him and that turned out fine. Even just 3 years later there are so many more tests available and so many more worries. I guess my biggest thing is now my family has more to think about. Could we afford a child with severe special needs, is it fair to my DS, who would take care of that child if we weren't around? I guess there are no guarantees in life, so you could drive yourself nuts worrying!!
Thanks for the congrats on hearing the hb. Definitely another "check" off my list!!

My ultrasound was a success! Baby measured at 8w0d and heartrate is 143. I am so relieved, still am very cautious, but good to know everything is OK so far. I may never really get my excitement back since I had a miscarriage in November, but will take it one day at a time. My next goal is my next OB appointment on 4/9. I may tell work after that since we should be able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler by then (with DS the doppler picked up his heartbeat at 9w!).
ND Cute about telling your grandma!
telling family - When are you telling your family, if you haven't already? I have not even told my parents that I'm pg and can't decide when to tell them, I'm torn in that I'd like to tell my mom, but worry maybe she'll want to talk about it and no one else knows yet....well, I did tell my brother - they went through a misarriage themselves, so I'm confidant he'll keep it quiet.

ND - awesome u/s! At my last one baby was moving around and you could make it out from the total blob it was the 2 times before. Amazing!! Cute idea about your grandma. I bet she'll feel special!
mcgwigan - AWESOME news! Glad you are official!! I feel the same way about having a hard time getting excited. It's our way of protecting ourselves. They heard the HB with the doppler this last time just shy of 10 weeks and around 9 1/2 weeks with DS. I think if your on the thinner side it's easier.
telling family- Well we were going to wait to tell everyone until after the NT scan at the end of this month. But this weekend I am going to NYC for my sister's bridal shower. It will be obvious I'm not drinking (though I did think of the "I gave it up for lent" lie). So I may tell them and swear them to secrecy. We may tell DH's parents the following weekend too, but then absolutely no one else until after the NT. These are people who we would tell if something happened anyways.....

telling~ One of my issues is that I'm getting quite the belly. I'm actually surprised that no one at work has asked me about it...we're pretty close & personal here, it's a small office. I mentioned to my daycare provider (who knows) that I'm getting a pouch and she said that she thought so too  so I know it's noticeable. We live a little distance from our families, so can easily avoid them though.

mmisabel and mcgwigan I'm right there with you about not getting excited. I'm thinking about this baby in terms of "maybe." I wish I could have a magic eye view into the future and know if I should get excited! I am glad that both of you are also in this thread and hope we all (meaning ALL members) stay in it!
Telling people We've told immediate family and a couple close friends. My work still doesn't know, but I've thought about telling the higher-ups in case it comes out. They know I had a miscarriage in the fall and I think are on "pregnancy watch" for me. Someone's bound to notice my extreme appetite. Although I told many people about my miscarriage, I still found it comforting to know that I didn't *have* to tell people. Having a lot less phone calls to make that horrible day was such a relief.
Symptoms So far I am EXHAUSTED which I value every day because last pregnancy when I stopped being exhausted was when I lost the pregnancy. I am also eating us out of house and home. I have not started getting a belly, except a little bit at night. I think it's mostly from all the food. But I am only 6 weeks.

mmisabell Yep, I'm basically right there with you with 3 pregnancies! My son was born 2/15/08, then I got pg in September-right when I had lost all the baby weight, then again now. My belly's just like OK already!! LOL!
Tracie Yes-last pregnancy I was very nervous when the exhaustion ended because it just seemed like it was too soon. I've been exhausted now on & off, but it's more on now, so it's good!

Amy, I like Tessa and James! You're right, girl names are so much easier than boys'! And since we aren't finding out the sexes, I have to come up with four names I like!
Congratulations and welcome Camdynlyn!
McG, yay for being official! Congrats on the great u/s!
mmisabel, have fun at the shower this weekend and revealing the good news to your sister!
Last night I told my grandma and she was so excited! She claims she already knew, LOL! We all had a big dinner 2 weeks ago and she said she could tell then. She said she thought either that, or that I was putting on weight but that she didn't think I was gaining weight because I am usually slim. She also said something like I seemed different, haha. We all knew she would claim to have already known, that's grandmas for ya! Anyway, she was happy and she said now she has something to sit at home and think about and look forward to :)

This thread has went crazy. I have been keeping along but haven't had time to post. Welcome all new comers and congratulations. I am glad that we decided to have the Nov mommies join.
I am starting to show a little. I have gotten comments from some co-workers. Otherwise people would think I have gained weight and that would be a red flag. To be honest, I have a small body frame anyway and gaining 5 lbs or however much I have so far is noticeable. At least for me it is. I haven't gained much weight since the 5 years I have been there.
I am 10 weeks today. Some days I don't feel pregnant and some days I do. I did a mad dash to the bathroom the other day because I just wasn't feeling right. Not sure what that was about. I don't have M/S which I cherish everyday but there are days where I just don't feel well.
Tony and I have already gotten free stuff. High chair, car seat (next size up from when they get out of the infant car seat), and bath tub. One co-worker is going to get me a picture of a crib that her grandson is out of which I will show to my in-laws so see if they want it instead of spending money. Another (ex-boyfriend and friend) from college and his wife just had their last child and said that they will have stuff for us to look at. Everyone is so generous. We are greatly thankful. I think I am going to cry now. LOL!!!
My emotions are all over the board. One day I cried over my blueberry bagel. I cried the other night for something ridiculous.
Sleepiness - It varies week by week. Some weeks I have a ton of energy and can run 5 days a week. Some weeks, like this week, I think I am only going to get 3 or 4 days in. I feel lazy if I don't get running in but I do have a reason unlike before I was pregnant. This week was the first time that I actually tried to nap when I got home from work. I did go to bed at 7:30 and 8 a couple of times this week.
Names - We have had these names forever. Boy - Anthony Nunzio (Nunzio was his grandfathers name). Girl - Ella Nicole.

ND - That is so cute about your Grandma...Both Grandparents on my side are both gone. Tony's Grandparents are about 6 hours from us. Though he does write her every week to keep her up to tabs on everything. When we talked to her last on the phone she was so excited.

mmisabel Funny that you mention the date...seems that mid-November is something to everyone! B/t 11/15 and 11/21 there are like 8 events (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) in my family and friends. So of course they all have an opinion on when this kid should be born!
mcgwigan and camdynlyn Congrats and welcome!!
Telling Well I know you are supposed to wait awhile (I'm only 5 weeks and a few days) but I can't seem to keep my mouth shut. We pretty much told EVERYONE right away!
Symptoms My BBs hurt like nobody's business! And I am soooo tired. I nap and I am not a napper. I also feel bloated and want to eat more often, but eat less when I eat. Only mild tummy flutters. Not actual nausea yet (knocks on wood!)
Names Very early but most likely if it is a girl it will be Lucy (Lucille) Hope and if it is a boy...well Peter and Jamey (James) are top contenders.

mcgwigan and camdylnyn Welcome and congrats!
espresso We (I) really like the name Abigail Lucille (Abby Lu). Lucille is my grandmother's name and I really want to use it if we have a girl.
Telling We told our close friends and a couple co-workers have caught on. We don't live near any family, so we'll probably wait a couple more weeks. We're going to my grandparents for Easter, so we'll tell our parents before then so we can tell my grandparents in person.
Symptoms I have been so nauseous and haven't been able to sleep/get comfortable at night. I was never nauseous with either of my other pregnancies so I've been struggling with this pregnancy.

Hi ladies, I hope everyone had a great weekend! I am sad it is over :(
Yesterday I went to my friend's house, who had her baby in September, and she gave me 2 HUGE bags of maternity clothes (to borrow)!!! There is so much that it is probably more than my normal wardrobe. And they are all really nice. I told DH that I am not going to want to go back to my crappy clothes :) She must have spent a small fortune on maternity clothes! I know it seemed like everytime we talked, she was shopping for clothes. I have enough to not have to do laundry for like 3 weeks at a time, LOL! I am so thankful though, because I can't afford clothes right now. We owe $800 in taxes, $600 to the fertility doctor, and DH's gpa is turning 100 this year and we feel like we have to go down to FL to see him, PLUS we have 2 babies coming! So clothes are way down on my priority list, but now I still get to be the cute prego lady that I always dreamed of being. Sounds vain, but this will probably be my only pregnancy, so I want to enjoy it and that includes looking cute!!
Most of it I can't wear yet, but there are a lot of cute summer clothes that I tucked away. I did pick out a good deal of shirts and pants that I can go ahead and wear. I could get away with my own clothes, but they are uncomfortable. The bella band annoys me sometimes because it rides up. Sorry that was so long! :)

ND Yay for the clothes..that's great!! Did your Grandma make your big announcement? How did it go?
amyinlosangeles No names here yet, DH brought it up & I told him I just can not discuss that now! We had a hard time with DS and have a very difficult time picking girl names. We'll probably wait until after the big ultrasound.
KLU Isn't it funny how much 5lbs can do? That's great that you've gotten a lot of used stuff. The less you have to buy, the better...especially with things that are not a necessity like exersaucers, jumpers, bumbo chairs. It sucks to buy something like that new & have your DC hate it.
We ended up telling my MIL & FIL over the weekend and I did tell my parents too. They are supposed to keep it under wraps for us, so we shall see. I had also told my brother a week ago and told him he could tell his wife, but no one else. My mom thought that my SIL may tell everyone, but I don't think so since they had a m/c in the past too. The weekend flew by for me & I wish it didn't! I got up late this morning-went to bed at 9 and got up at 6:45 so had to rush. I feel like I could have slept for a few more hours!

DH let the news out on Facebook, which is kinda annoying because my brother and SIL had a m/c 6 months ago or so and I have been waiting to tell them until I was through with the first trimester, and well, I'm not and I have to tell them now anyway. Which is really ok, because the chances of a full term pregnancy increase so much with hearing a strong hb. But still, I'm kinda annoyed.

This thread took off!! Welcome to all the new ladies!
Telling people- All of our friends and family know... we told them around seven weeks because my husband just couldn't keep it in any longer. This is both my parent's and my IL's first grandkid, so needless to say, they are pretty stoked!!
Names - We've talked a bit about names, but probably won't go into depth about it until we know if it's pink or blue. :p
Symptoms - Sore boobs come and go, tired, tired, tired. I fell asleep last night at 6:30 p.m. and didn't get up until 8 a.m You'd think I was the one who ran the marathon and not my husband (see below)!
We just got home from Rome - my hubby ran the marathon - and I had a bit of a scare. I think we did too much walking, because on Saturday night, I was spotting a bit. It was brown and very, very light, but still freaked me out. It seems to have stopped, so I'm just trying to take it easy. My appointment on Wednesday can't come soon enough!

names - cute ones, ladies! If it's a girl we'll probably use what we wanted for DS Sarah Isabel, though I like Brooke also. No clue for a boy, though. So that's what it will probably be!!
ND - So sweet about your grandma. How special she's around to share this experience with you. And score on the clothes! I borrowed a lot last time from friends and my maternity wardrobe was WAY better than my regular!;) Both these friends just had #2 and are done, so hopefully they'll get back to me again after I tell them I'm pg.
maniach - Uggh about DH spreading the news before you were ready. I'd be annoyed too.
TracieB - hope everythings ok. Sounds like you just overdid it.
K-L-U - Isn't that sound the best?! Congrats!
The shower this weekend was great. My mom and sister were both excited, but also are under strict instructions to keep it quiet! The NT scan can't get here soon enough. They both are convinced it's a boy already. Isn't that funny?

Names -- We haven't really given it much thought. We had a book when we picked DD's name and just went through and highlighted all the names we liked. If there were names that overlapped, then we considered them narrowed it down and went from there. We had picked Lucas Bishop for a boy, so we may use that if this one is a boy, but I feel weird about using a name we picked out for another baby (I know, it's silly, it's just weird to me). If it's a girl, we are in SERIOUS trouble, lol.
TracieB -- I hope you are ok! Keep us updated after your appointment!
The good news is I am feeling a little better. I have a little more energy and I'm not as queasy. I still wish I could take a good nap at about 1 PM, but I don't feel like there is sludge in my head anymore. I hope everyone else is doing well, too.

TracieB How are you feeling?
KLU Yay for hearing the heartbeat!
mmisabell Yay for sharing with your mom & sis. Too funny about them being set on it being a boy though!
manicah Glad you're feeling better. We're the same way with girl names...I'd like to use my Grandma's name, but it's Isabella....waaaay popular right now!
They called to let me know that my NT Ultrasound is scheduled for 4/15, so yay-just 3 weeks from tomorrow. Can't remember if I mentioned, but my next OB appointment is 4/9. My memory is mush-pg brain already. I can only handle one thing at a time it seems. Yesterday morning I meant to stop on my way to work to get something to eat & forgot because I was talking on the phone with my mom. I've really got to start eating better-way too much fast food here.
Oh-yesterday, one of my co-workers asked another if I was pg. Seems like my belly is already starting to give me away. She happened to ask my friend who knows, but thankfully, she just played dumb. I'm sticking to wearing my baggier shirts, most of my stuff is a bit on the tailored side, so I'm going to have to look around for a few things to hold me over for a few more weeks before I announce it at work.

Tracie - How did your appointment go today?
MMIsabel - I am sure it was nice to tell some of your family but making sure the cat doesn't get out of the bag. Is your instinct a boy?
Maniach - I think that I would feel the same way for a previous name chosen. I would want to start with a different list. Glad that you are feeling a little better.
Mcqwigan - I feel like I have pg brain sometimes too. Not so much at work because I am constantly in files and talking with customers/agents and whatnot. It is amazing how people notice things at work. I have been told I am starting to show multiple times.
I finally dove into my craving of fast food tonight. DH turned on America's Test Kitchen that we recorded. It was dessert, of course. It completely made us hungry and he went and got Wendy's. Tried their fish sandwich and it was YUMMY!!! I am trying to really watch my intake on fast food since that is my craving.
I gained 4 lbs in 4 weeks since my last appointment. I also have started to get up once a night to use the bathroom. Usually between 1-2. I never used to have to do that.
Lately, I have been planning our 30th birthday party. DH turns 30 next Friday and mine on May 5th. Then one of our good friends turns 30 two weeks after that. We are combining birthdays to assist with the cost. I am pretty excited. We will find out the sex of baby u right before the party.

KLU - Yay for the heartbeat!! I've been noticing that I've been getting up at least once to go to the bathroom, too. Usually it's around an hour before the alarm, which ticks me off! How cool about your combined party. Aw, your last birthday before you become a threesome - how cool!
mcgwigan - Those three weeks are going to fly by! I bet you can't wait!
maniach - Glad you're feeling better!
mmisabel - I bet your sister and mom were so thrilled! It's so much fun telling people.

Me: Well, we had our first major appointment this morning and it went... okay, I guess. The doctor couldn't get a good picture of the baby, so he scheduled me for another one in two weeks with the Radiology department. So my U/S appointment is on April 7. From his measurements, Baby B is 9 weeks 4 days, but according to my last period, I am 11 weeks, so that's kinda nerve-wracking. He found the heartbeat and said it was 'at least 120, which is normal,' but of course I am nervous that it's too slow. As I said in my LJ, why can't I just trust the doc and believe everything's okay? My husband said that he saw all four chambers of the heart fluttering away and is very excited. Oh, he did a Pap and internal exam, too, and I am majorly spotting now. He said that that was normal, so just an FYI for anyone else who experiences that!!
Here's the best picture he could get. It doesn't look at all like a baby to me, but that's what he said it is! Haha! Anybody wanna guess what's what? :p

eta: I just read this over and geez, I sound so pessimistic! I'm usually really upbeat and positive and don't know what my deal is. I think I'm overanalyzing things and thinking about it too much. I'm afraid that if I get too excited, something bad will happen. Hopefully I'll get out of this funk soon!! Sorry, ladies!

TracieB -- we are calling our baby Howard because in the first u/s it looks like a duck. Granted the bill and duck head are actually the yolk sack, but still, the point is the only people on the planet that can tell it's a baby and not some weird cystic alien are u/s techs and doctors, lol. Also, don't worry about your LMP vs. what the baby measures. There's always the possibility that you got pg at a different time in your cycle, even though rare. Plus, there's a difference between gestational age and fetal age. Gestational age is based on LMP and fetal age is usually 2 weeks behind that (because they assume that it's 2 weeks to the fertile part of your cycle), so maybe when they are measuring on the u/s they are measuring fetal age not gestational age? I'm certain your next u/s will be more reassuring, and in the meantime, I hope you stop spotting because even if it is normal, I'm sure it's nerve-wracking! I hope you feel better soon! Take it easy and take care of yourself!

TracieB THey could also just have an older ultrasound machine, which would explain why he couldn't get a clear shot. Mine looks pretty much like a blob too, although I think with better equipment & a transvaginal US, the picture would have been more clear! So, yay for a good appointment. I think that the heartbeat ranges anywhere from 110-170 bpm, so 120 is good!
KLU I was totally craving cottage cheese the last couple days so pick up some of those Breakstone Cottage cheese singles with the fruit topping-they are yummy!! Don't feel bad about the weight gain. Tracie - No worries. My baby's heartbeat was 120-130. I was told everything was looking good and healthy. You heard the hearbeat so that is a GREAT sign. Just take it day by day and go from there. I had some bleeding too after my exam. My doc told me that too. It should subside. If it doesn't in 3 days then I would call.
Mcgwigan - I was expecting around 5 lbs for weight gain. I can just feel it in clothes that used to be a little baggy around the hip and butt region. I hope that is my range for weight gain, 25 lbs. I am 5'5 and was weighed at 118 at my first appointment. I am all legs and no torso. I can't imagine gaining more than 30....Geez I hope not but it is what it is...I don't worry about it...I just try to eat healthy. Though I had Wendy's last night.. YUM!!

maniach - Ha! Howard the duck. That's too funny! You're right about the LMP possibly being off. My cycles were kinda wacky, so that could definitely be the case. I was just so sure of when the actual conception took place, but it could have been another day. We were kinda going at it a lot to try and make it happen. :o
mcgwigan - Thanks for weighing in! Yeah, the machine they used was kinda old looking, and it looked like the battery was about to die (in fact, you can see that on the ultrasound, the battery has one bar!).
KLU - Hopefully the spotting stops today. It's so scary. Especially when everything has gone so smoothly so far. I am totally feeling you re: weight gain. I haven't gained any yet (although I don't know how - I've definitely not been eating healthfully!) and the thought of gaining 30 or so freaks me out. I have no doubt it'll come off with some work, and I'm ready to work at it, even though there's still seven or more months to go!!

TracieB, it's okay to be worried. I always find something to worry about, even if everything looks perfect. I'm sure things are fine. Did they do a transvaginal u/s?
I had another u/s today and DH came in hopes that they moved again, which they did! They are longer arms and legs this time so you could really see it. Baby A looked like it was waving! SO cute! They are both hanging upside down and facing to the left right now :)
Here is a pic of A. It is the clearest picture. B is hard to get because it is farther up.

OMG you guys, I'm reading this article (http://nymag.com/news/features/55500/) about natural childbirth and homebirthing and it says this: “It’s simple,” he says. “If monkeys give birth by Cesarean section, the mother is not interested in her baby … So you wonder, what about … the future of humanity?”
I haven't figured out if the article is pro- or against home birthing, but that kind of offends me in that people aren't monkeys.

Yeah - that comment about c-sections rubs me wrong. My DS was born by c-section because he was posterior (facing up) with the cord wrapped around his neck several times & I was just not able to push him out after 3 hours of pushing-he was in distress. I relented to a c-section becuase I would not have been able to live with myself if something happened to him-I wanted him safe! Needless to say-I was able to breastfeed as soon as I came out of the OR-they had not bathed him yet either. I did not feel that the bond with my son was compromised because of the way he was born. What a bunch of BS! They didn't need to make that comment.
I'm all for home birth and no meds..if that's what you're comfortable with, I don't think it needs to be sold that way though!

I had DD via C-section, too, and it wasn't nearly as loving as yours McWigan. I actually wonder if she was ok after the delivery. Personally I was drugged to high heaven so I have no idea what was even going on. They knocked me out and took her to wherever they took her and actually fed her a bottle before I saw her, which kinda cheesed me off, but they said her blood sugar was low. My only real problems with the whole thing were (1) the nurses actually had to tell the doc that they weren't putting me back on pitocin because of the issues I was experiencing (2) they didn't really ever tell me what was going on (I had an u/s after about 6 hours in the hospital on pitocin and they neglected to mention that DD was facing the wrong way) and (3) they knocked me out and took her to the nursery and I had to call the nursery to ask for her at 1 AM when I was out of C-section recovery and in my room, and coherent enough to have a clue.

Maniach, why did they knock you out? That scares me...
No idea. I don't even know if it was intentional. The C-section hurt like hell. I like to think it's because I had an epidural and not a spinal, but not sure if that's true or not. Anyway, they say you will feel tugging and what-not, but I felt PRESSURE. I couldn't see anything because the curtain was up, but I could tell that when they got her top half out her bottom half was still in there. They were sucking out her nasal passages and throat and stuff before they pulled her all the way out (I said "get her out of me!" This is on video, yay). Meanwhile the anesthesiologist was giving me nitrous oxide. Next thing I know, I was out. They woke me up for a minute in the OR to meet her then I was out again. I really have no idea what was going on. I don't know if it was something to do with my pain or with her or something totally different. Maybe I'll ask my new doc at my next appointment. I've been wondering how often they do that, if I was complaining too much (hahaha) or something else. Oddly my mom had a C-section with me and they knocked her out, too (she was hyperventilating, I was not). That's probably why I didn't think much of it at the time.

Yea I wonder how often that happens... I have my first OB appt this Friday and I am going to ask what her procedures are for twin births (vag and c/s).
maniach
03-25-2009, 12:19 PM
About 30% of all births are now C-sections, which is more than double what it was like 10 years ago. I believe the risks increase with twins. Something I didn't do before DD was born was have a realistic and frank discussion about a C-section. I just figured it was something they decided to do in the moment and I didn't have any control over it. I would probably have asked what to expect and talked more about my personal goals for giving birth (mostly that I wanted to breastfeed and you are supposed to do it IMMEDIATELY so them knocking me out interfered with that). Maybe then they would have been more accommodating to that?
mcgwigan
03-25-2009, 12:27 PM
maniach I wonder if maybe your C-section became a little problematic or something so they put you under because of it? I have no for instances-but by all mean, ask your Dr! It's your body so if there was anything additional to your c-section you should know!
When I had mine I heard "partial placental abrubtion" and knew I made the right choice in relenting to a c-section, plus DH had confirmed to me that the cord was wrapped 2 times around his neck. I had an epidural with mine, but didn't get it until right before when I was in the OR since my goal was an unmedicated birth. That epidural was like heaven to me! They had told em to stop pushing and I was at a point in my labor where it was impossible to not push-it was like my body just took over! I didn't feel much-just some tugging and what not.
maniach is right though...it's wise to at least read up on C-section so that you're prepared. I skimmed some stuff but that was all.
Oh and since we're kind of on the subject, I definately reccommend a post partum abdominal support of some sort-especially if you have a c-section. I didn't get one until I was probably 5 or 6 weeks pp & it felt so much better to be wearing that!

tracieb - I'm sorry you werent' more reassured at you appoinment. I can definitely see the head in your pic. Cute! I agree that you could have O'd later than you thought. Plus, if the u/s was abdominal it tends to not be as accurate.
maniach - wow that comment about monkey's is ridiculous. They also throw their feces at each other when they are mad - something humans don't do (or at least I hope!) Have you considered a VBAC next time?? I would definitely not do a home birth (personally). I'm a nurse and knowing all the complications that are out there, that would freak me out too much. But a lot of MD's and midwives are pro-VBAC these days, so it's something to consider...
KLU - yeah, I'm thinking boy. DH wants to be surprised at delivery, so we'll see! MMMmm Wendy's......
weight - I got on the scale this morning and I'm losing weight. I have a belly but for some reason I'm down like 2-3 lbs. It has me a little worried. I didn't eat great the past 2 days (I work nights and my eating sched. gets thrown off). Hopefully that's it.

I've been wanting to TTC for years, so I'm very happy to be PG at this point in my life.
I hope you're all feeling good, and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Welcome Iheartjustin.. Congrats..
ND - Babycenter says week 13 is your last week of the first trimester.
Today I am tired. I have pretty much been working on one account since Friday. I am the only one in our department that works on this account. So that gets me pretty drained by the end of the day.

Welcome IHeartJustin and congrats!!!!
Maniach, I am definitely preparing myself for a c/s since I have twins. I want to be prepared for both. I guess we won't know what I am doing until the time comes and we see if both are head down. To be honest, both a c/s and a birthing twins scares me! If it was just one, I would be excited to deliver but popping 2 out has me worried :)
McG, I read the thread on belly binding and definitely want to do it. I am going to ask my hospital if they give you one. When my sister was a L&D nurse, she said they automatically gave you one with a c/s.

TracieB, do you want me to put your u/s picture in the u/s post at the beginning of this thread?
I don't know how other threads do it but if you want a picture (u/s or belly shot) put back in the opening posts, then let the TM know? How does that sound? Is that how it is done?

Welcome iheartjustin!
ND - I had a friend that delivered twins vaginally around the time my DS was born. It was her 2nd pregnancy and they were both bigger than my DS (like 7lb2oz and 7lb5oz). I couldn't imagine after pushing him out someone going "now go again!" Everyone else I know with twins had a c-section. I'm sure at the end it will be clear what road your going down.
Also, the way it works in other threads is usually when people post belly pics/ultrasounds we ask them to write in red either "ok to post on front page" or "please do not post on front page". Does that work??

mmisabel "They also throw their feces at each other when they are mad - something humans don't do (or at least I hope!)" <------ that cracked me up!!!!
Welcome iheartjustin!
maniach - I'm so sorry you were drugged so much giving birth. That really stinks!! Hopefully this time will be tons different.
NotDesperate - That works for me! I don't know if I'll get a better printout at my appointment in a couple weeks, but if I do, can I replace that one with the 'better' one?
I'm with you guys - that article is crazy. I'm all for giving birth however the safest way is for me and the baby. I don't frown upon anyone for birthing the way they want to. Wait, I should back up - I do think that scheduling your C-section for your convenience is a little ridiculous. But that's just me.
I'm feeling better today. The spotting from the Pap stopped, thank goodness, and my SIL, who works for a doctor, showed him the ultrasound and he picked out the head, arms and legs right away. That reassures me a bit!!
Hope you all are doing well!

TracieB Glad the spotting stopped! I was wondering about you this morning when I got up!
ND I'm pretty sure there's someone in the multiples thread who gave birth to twins vaginally..I just can't remember who it is! Good idea to ask your hospital if they give you a binder. I didn't know about them and my hospital didn't. It would have been nice if I knew about them before! In fact-that was one of my first shopping trips pp-to Motherhood Maternity to get one!
iheartjustin Welcome & Congrats! Lucky you-pg on first try!! Way to go!
mmisabel I wouldn't worry about the weight this early in the game. Maybe you were just dehydrated or something?

I've considered a VBAC, but I'm not one of those women who trusts in what my body can do and giving birth vaginally scares the BAJEEBUS out of me (which, incidentally, is why I think I didn't go into labor on my own with DD -- I have some belief in the mind body connection, lol). Although, having a C-section again also scares the crap out of me because it hurt so much (during more than after, so I think I'm an odd case. Don't let me scare any of you first timers out there!!).

Well, I spoke too soon. The spotting is back with a vengeance. Nice. I just put a call in to the doctor, so hopefully he'll call back soon.
edited: I just spoke with the doctor's nurse and she said as long as it doesn't fill a pad within an hour, it is okay. If it fills a pad, I get feverish, crampy or pass clots to come in right away. She said that it seems like my cervix must be extra sensitive and that spotting after a pelvic exam can last up to three days and be completely normal. She said if it's still happening tomorrow to give her a call and I can come in for reassurance. I live in Italy and am flying to the States on Saturday, so if it's something, I'd rather get it checked out before I go. I told her that I didn't want to be 'that patient' who calls about every little thing and she said to not worry about it at all, they'd rather have me call and be concerned than not, so I feel a lot better now. When does pregnancy stop being worrisome? Ever? :p :o

Wow, this thread has grown like crazy! Sorry, I'm horrible at keeping up on these things especially w/ work, so I'll probably be bad throughout.
We had our ultrasound appointment on Tuesday and everything looks great! It was so cool to see the baby and it actually looked like a tiny baby. It was moving is arms and legs constantly throughout the ultrasound. We heard and saw the heartbeat (around 160 beats), which was just awesome! Baby is measuring slightly bigger. I was was 11 weeks, 4 days then and the baby measured at 12 weeks exactly (so only 3 days over estimate). I was really just in awe the whole time watching it and so was DH. I loved that our Dr. office had a large flat screen TV on the wall hooked to the machine so we could watch the baby the whole time easily. Oh, and I only gained 2 lbs from my last appt, which surprised me given how much my belly has grown now. I don't know what I weighed at the beginning of my first month before my appt at 2 months by I'm guessing I've gained maybe 5 lbs overall so far.
My belly has popped for sure now and I am in maternity clothes now. I am 12 weeks 0 days today. I had the hardest time shopping for maternity clothes last weekend, it's nearly impossible to find things at the stores I think. I finally found some items a JCP that I could wear for work that I thought were cute. I just refuse to start wearing big flowery and bow covered things now that I'm pregnant when I never wore those things before. I'm going to be shopping online at Old Navy and Gap this weekend I think to find more stuff for summer. I'm definitely going to need some shorts and cute tank tops since I live in FL and know I'll be just hot and uncomfortable most of the next 6 months!
Welcome to all the new moms-to-be and Congrats! I'm glad so many more people are joining us and getting their BFPs!

BsstGirl Yay for a good appointment. I found that I really liked the pants at Target for work last time. They wash very well-don't wrinkle & are just nice looking.
TracieB Ugh! I hope that it clears up for your trip!
I ended up telling work today. I was going to wait until my next OB appointment in 2 weeks, but I've been feeling pretty nauseus & was just tired of hiding (not to mention tired. period!). I figure, they will be told if anything happens anyway, so may as well! I actually felt good about telling them too!
maniach I just saw your post about VBAC and birth being scary. I definately am a believer in mind over matter. Did you read any birth stories or books last time? I'll have to double check the ones that I have, but found that it helped me to read stories and envision things. Labor went pretty quickly for me and I have wondered if it had anything to do with my visions.

Good morning! Thanks for the nice welcome.
BsstGirlThat's so exciting that you're starting to see the baby's shape!
TracieBI join the others in hoping everything gets worked out before your big trip.
mcgwiganI started telling people at work too. I was planning on waiting longer, but I've been SO tired and nauseous, I felt like it was better to be upfront. I actually feel better now that I have shared too.
Another reason I've been telling more people is....I am getting big *already*!
I am only 9w, and I swear I look PG already. Because I've been so sick, I've been eating nothing but carbs, so that is likely the culprit. I've also heard it could be bloating? People have told me it might actually go down in a few weeks. Anyone one else going through this so early? My clothes don't fit!
mcgwigan

iheartjust Yep-me too! In fact when I told my office manager, he said that he was wondering the other day. I am only 9w too-I'll be getting my maternity stuff out over the weekend, because I am litterally down to 1 pair of pants for work that still fit...and they are a size larger than my regular ones that I bought when I went back to work after my DS was born. I really can't remember last time if it went down at all. I didn't think so.

So my first appt. was on March 9th. I should have been 6 weeks and 2-3 days. By my OB's u/s she dated me at 5w 2-3d which just didn't sound right to me. We did see a flicker of the heartbeat though. She said I must have ovulated late but I didn't think it was possible to have ovulated and conceived at the time she thought. So I was a little leary of her machine. She did find a really big ovarian cyst and forbid me to exercise or have sex til i saw her again in 2 weeks to see if the cyst had shrunk. It's just a cyst filled with fluid and I guess very common. Some woman get them every month with their period and it happens to the ovary in which the egg came from.
That brings me to my appt. on March 25th (2 days ago). She did another vag u/s and measured the cyst (which was even bigger). When she went to look at the baby though, she said she didn't see a heartbeat - neither did I. She wanted me to go over to the hospital to have an u/s on a better machine. I was a nervous wreck, but the u/s machine at the hospital picked up the baby's heartbeat right away! It looked like a little shrimp and I could see the umbilical cord. The tech dated me at 8 weeks 4 days - exactly what I had thought! I don't think I have ever been so relieved in my life. I had really been preparing myself for the worst :(
My next OB appt. is April 15th and my 1st tri screen/NT scan is April 23rd.
I have been having a lot of nausea since about 5 weeks. No actual throwing up, just lots of gagging and a very limited appetite. I haven't gained any weight yet, but my boobs are ginourmus, so I had to start telling people about the pregnancy. I am also bloated around the middle and since I spend most of my time in form fitting workout clothes...it has become obvious! I just ordered 2 new bras and I think my next week I may have to dig out my maternity clothes.

Hi ladies...I know I haven't posted much but I've been reading along! Not much going on here. I'm starting to get a little bit of a belly, especially at night, but not anything anyone would notice. Other than that, just tired and eating all the time!
I have my first appointment on Monday, but it's just the intake appt with the nurse. It's supposed to be an hour but I'm hoping it will go quick since I just had one less than six months ago and nothing has changed. (Well, except for the fact that I've now had a miscarriage.) I'll be curious to see what they put my due date at. Going by LMP is useless because I didn't ovulate until at least day 23, but it could have been CD 24 or 25 as well. I hope they want to give me a dating ultrasound. ;)

dollface Wow. What a scary few days for you!! I am so glad that everything came out ok.
Like Tracie I am just following along right now. Just ridiculously tired. I nap 1 to 2 hours a day. It really is crazy.
So I have a stupid little problem that maybe you can help me with (DH thinks I'm kind of nuts, I know he's probably right :) )....
I know it is probably too early to be really shopping for bedding, but I am anyway. I have always wanted a Classic Pooh nursery, but really am not fond of most of the frilly themed bedding sets that are currently available. In doing a google search to find one I like, we stumbled on one that I just LOVE!!!! Unfortunately, it is only sold in the UK. Here it is:
UK Classic Pooh (http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Babies-R-Us/Collections/Winnie-the-Pooh/Winnie-the-Pooh-CotCotbed-Bedding-Set(0031168))
So should I try to buy it somewhere? Would it fit a US crib? I know I am crazy, but I guess I had to try :)
Hope everyone is feeling ok!
Tracie
03-28-2009, 04:54 PM
espresso Very cute! I have no idea if it's the same size as US cribs, but it does give the sizes so you could find out probably pretty easily.
You're lucky you can take a nap every day! Wish I could!
mcgwigan
03-28-2009, 05:05 PM
espresso Since it's still early, I would book mark that (it's out of stock anyway) and keep looking. You could always tell your self that you'll order it at 25 weeks if you hadn't found it in the US by then. I really don't know about sizing either.
dollface That's very crazy! Glad that everything is OK and you're joining us. COngrats!
Tracie I'm crazy tired too....I wish I could nap every day too!
Nothing much new with me. Still really tired, nauseus on and off. Today I was a grump all day, woke up in a great mood, but DH snapped at me when I went to make breakfast for me & DS and it was downhill from there. DSS was impossible today too & DS was fighting naps all day, so he was a major grump too!. I pretty much decided not to really talk to them much since I was in such a lousy mood from it all. Hoping tomorrow's a better day....I'm going to go visit my grandma.

Espresso The sheet that comes with the UK version is about 55" x 27" and this standard sheet (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2611726) from BRU in the US is 52" x 28" so the sheet probably wouldn't fit, but everything else would probably work just fine. You'd just have to get different sheets.

Thanks for not telling me I'm nuts! :o
maniach I didn't even think about actually looking at the measurements (I'll chalk that up to pregnancy brain). I'm not a stickler for the sheets matching so that is fine. And I don't mind if it isn't organic. I picked it because I like the style; organic is just a bonus I guess.
mcgwigan DH suggested we wait too. Maybe it will appear on ebay or something.
Tracie Thanks! I wish I didn't need a nap; I'd much rather be doing other stuff!
So the nausea is starting to set it in a little. I don't think it is full blown, just twinges off on, mostly at midmorning. What do ya'll do to get rid of it? Eat crackers?
dollface
03-29-2009, 08:02 AM
Sorry about the nausea espresso. The best thing I have found is called ginger honey tonic. I have a friend that has an organic baby store so I get it there, but you might find it health food store. I know New Chapter makes a version but I haven't tried theirs. You can take it by the teaspoon or mix it in tea. You can even mix it in sparkling water and make ginger ale! It worked better then zofran for me. Oh, I also keep tangerines or clementines around. The scent when you peel it definitely helps relieve nausea for me. Clementines are in season right now so I always keep a couple in my purse.
maniach
03-30-2009, 04:11 AM
espresso -- I keep saltines around to quell the nausea. I tried ginger ale, but it turns out I don't like ginger ale. My doc recommended pure ginger but I don't think I could stomach that at all. With DD just keeping my belly full worked great. This one's not as easy. I hope yours is more like what I had with her, than with this one.

Espresso, you are not crazy! I actually bought my bedding sets last week! I wouldn't have except that I stumbled upon a gender neutral set on clearance at Target for $13! I liked it and we are on a budget so I went ahead and bought 2. It feels like a relief though since now I don't have to obsess over crib bedding! Have you seen the classic pooh stuff at Target? IIRC, it isn't too frily.
Sorry you aren't feeling well, also. I use pure ginger root. I grate it into tea and it really helps. I also candy it (you can buy already candied ginger) to just much on. It tastes awful actually but it really helps. Are you just hungry by mid-morning? I keep reading to make sure you don't get overly hungry.
McG, sorry you and the family had a grumpy weekend!! Ours started out kind of grumpy, too.
Dollface, welcome!!!! So sorry for all the unneccesary worry but I am very glad you are here with us now!
I had my first OB appt on Friday. It went well. There are only 2 doctors there and they are both nice. On Saturday we went to the mother of all yard sales!!! It was at a middle school and filled the entire gym and cafeteria! The sale was put on by the Mother's of Multiples club (you had to be a member to sell) and I found lots of cute matching baby outfits. I got a ton of nice clothes and baby toys and general baby items for $100! I really made out! Although, I think I overdid it because the next day I was soooo sore and had a horrible headache and just felt so crappy. If I wasn't PG, I would have felt fine. It is amazing how much being PG takes out of you!
mcgwigan
03-30-2009, 05:50 AM
ND Yay for the sale - that's awesome!!
espresso Eating constantly is what helps me most! I swear I eat all morning long-if I get too hungry I feel just awful. I eat so much during the day that I don't usually eat much for dinner. I also eat a bowl of cereal or something before I go to bed. I did this with my DS too & it sounds like you'd gain a ton of weight, but I only gained 25lbs with him. I ate much healthier with him than I have been now, so I need to make more of an effort to bring healthy foods to work with me so I don't end up with fast food.
TracieB How is everything going? Did the spotting stop? I was thinking of you over the weekend!
NotDesperate
03-30-2009, 05:54 AM
Oh I forgot to ask something...
Today I called out of work because I still feel run down and I have a sore throat. The lady I called out to told me not to bother going to the doctor because they won't do anything for me (since I am PG) anyway... is that true??
mcgwigan
03-30-2009, 05:59 AM
ND No, it's not true. If you have strep or something that could be treated with an antibiotic, it's best to go early and get it treated. You want to especially keep up with your health while pg since your immune system is compromised. If you feel it's worth going to the Dr to get it checked out, by all means go. There's a chance it's viral, in which case there'd be no treatment, but they may be able to let you know if it's OK to use chloroseptic spray or something for comfort.
I meant to mention that I bought a BeBand by bellaband that they sell at Target over the weekend. I tried wearing it with my jeans on Saturday night, but it wasn't working with my jeans for some reason. The back kept riding up - I may have had it twisted or soemthing. I wore it today with my work pants and it seems much better with work pants!

It is a little big but I will need a bigger one with twins. I got to get out for a walk today. I took it easy today. It hit 70 today.. VERY nice weather. Took it very easy this weekend. I was just ready for a day of nothing. It was so nice.
I am considering asking my boss (office manager) if they would agree with me not coming back to work until the beginning of the year. Would anyone have an idea on when I could talk to her about it? I have a anniversary lunch with her next week. Would that be too soon?
maniach
03-31-2009, 04:06 AM
K-L-U -- Come back next year after the birth or stop working now and come back next year? I think if it's after the birth and you want to come back next year there's not a lot they can do to stop you because you should get 12 weeks Family and Medical Leave (that's assuming your company is a certain size and you've worked there longer than 12 months and you haven't taken any of that Leave in the past 12 months). I'm sure if she knows you are pregnant she knows you will be taking maternity leave. I think with DD my boss asked how long I intended to take and I just said to expect it would be all 12 weeks and I'd let him know if I would be back sooner. I don't think it's ever too soon to approach the subject, though, it's just whatever you're comfortable with. I don't think I had that conversation with my boss until I was 7 months or something. It may not seem like it now, but 9 months is a LOOOOONG time, lol.
mcgwigan
03-31-2009, 05:37 AM
KLU You could talk to her about it now. I learned with my last pregnancy, to make sure you get everything in writing though! I had talked to my office manager about working from home after the 6 or 8 weeks of disability was up & he was very agreeable. Months later when I was trying to get an agreement in writing, he decided that he would not allow me to work from home-one of the reasons being that it would leave the office short staffed. So, 4 weeks before my due date I was having to research to see if we qualified FMLA ( he didn't think so, but we did) and I ended up getting the final answer that we qualified 4 days before I had the baby (he was 2 weeks early). It was stress that I didn't need at that point & I ended up taking the full 12 weeks, even though he was hoping I'd be back in the office before that. I'm hoping to take the full 12 weeks this time too, but I have to figure out if we can do it financially (you don't get paid under FMLA). I would start by asking her how much maternity leave they give and go from there.
And yes, the bella band worked great with my work pants!
stephanie Welcome & Congratulations!!
ND Great diaper bag!! Nice mom!!
Not much new with me. I think I've been feeling more and more nauseus lately, which is strange to me! Oh well, I won't complain though because it's not that bad and it's a sign to me that I'm pregnant still!! I can't wait to get to the point where I am obviously showing and feeling movement!

Stephie, congrats and welcome!!!!!!
KLU, I am only looking for really good deals right now, lol. Sorry I don't have any tips on when to talk to your boss but you got good advice so far!
McG, my bella band sometimes rides up in the back too. Now that I think about it, it is worse with jeans. I think it is worse if you are one to try to wear it higher so that no one can see it (as opposed to lower as if it were another layer). Or if you sit a lot, it rides up. It is so annoying in the car! Mine practically becomes a bra!
I'm home sick again today. My glands and ears hurt but I think I am getting better. I never did call the doctor. I have to be in serious pain to call the doctor with a sore throat because I am terrified of the strep test! I am such a baby!!

Hi girlies and welcome to all of the newbies!
Sorry I've not updated... I'm in the States with family right now, and you can imagine how much time that sucks out of the day - especially when I haven't seen them in almost a year!
The spotting has stopped, hallelujah!! I was worried that rushing to my various gates in the airport last Saturday would make it bad again, but nope, it's over and done with. I'm so relieved. My only issue now is dealing with jet lag along with pregnancy exhaustion. It's crazy how tired I get!!
I fly back to Italy on Sunday, so once I'm back to my normal 'routine' I'll start doing shout outs and all that good stuff.
Take care, everyone!

Tracie - I am glad to hear that the spotting stopped.
Maniach & Mcgwigan - Thanks for the advice. We do have short term disability which maternity leave falls under. I made sure to find that out before we got pregnant because the wording was different when we were bought and changed names. I am considering telling/asking her now. I would rather have it an open conversation. My work can be pretty demanding and me going on maternity leave is going to be a BIG hit on my department. I handle quite a bit and the more I can prepare them the better. We also do have FMLA. My DH and I both get extra pay checks in July and we are saving those for when the baby comes. The unkown is hard to plan but we can only do our best. Thank you so much for the advice.

So, I'm totally worried now about this pregnancy. By my estimates, and I was tracking everything very closely as we've been trying for a while, I conceived on or around February 15, which would put me at 8 weeks along. I had my first appointment yesterday, and the doctor's first question was "Are you sure your 8 weeks along?" The ultrasound only dated my pregnancy at 6w3d. And, then she indicated that she was having a hard time finding a heartbeat, which would be okay (I guess?) at 6 weeks, but not okay at 8 weeks. So, I have to now wait until Monday to get another ultrasound to confirm whether this pregnancy is viable or whether it's a miscarriage. I am beside myself with worry.

Pinkie--I'm so sorry to hear that. Like I said for a pp, maybe your ovulation schedule is off??? Did they draw blood? When I first learned I was pregnant I had no idea how far along I was so they drew blood to check my bHCG level two days in a row. If it increases by a certain amount, then you're moving ahead, but if it stalls or decreases, it signals a miscarriage. You might get some news back sooner than Monday if they did that? I'm sorry that's all I can help with right now... I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Wow this thread is moving. I have a horrible cold and a sick child, so we haven't been up to much here. I had an ultrasound on March 25 and my due date is November 8. I have my NT ultrasound on April 27 and my next OB appt on April 15 We told our families over the weekend and they were surprised and excited.
KLU - When I told my boss I was pregnant with DS#1 she asked how long I was going to take off and actually encouraged me to take off more than the 12 weeks. I think I took off 4 1/2 months with DS#1 and 5 months with DS#2. I also went back part time after DS#1. I am a CPA and with this one, I am either quitting or asking for a really reduced schedule (working maybe 8 weeks a year). My boss left a couple months ago and I cannot stand my new boss.

Thanks maniach...They didn't draw any blood. Just the ultrasound. So, I don't even have my HCG levels for comparison. Ugh.

So, I'm totally worried now about this pregnancy. By my estimates, and I was tracking everything very closely as we've been trying for a while, I conceived on or around February 15, which would put me at 8 weeks along. delurking...
They had a hard tme finding my baby's HB at 10 weeks, and she said that was normal. You can hear it then, but not something to worry about if you don't they put me on an ultrasound then, and all was good.. I hope all is ok with you :)

pinkie Good luck! I hope everything goes well at your next US! Were you charting or anything? Are you sure that's when you ovulated? I have my fingers crossed that you just got some dates wrong!
TracieB I'm so glad the spotting has stopped!
I had my first appt yesterday - it was just meeting with the nurse. It was short and sweet but the first thing they did was offer me an early ultrasound since I miscarried last time. I said, "Yes, please!" So that's on Monday.

Pinkie - try not to worry too much (I know, easier said then done). My doc dated me a week behind and then couldn't find the h/b at the second ultrasound. Sometimes the smaller machines in doctor's office aren't as good as the ultrasounds tech's. Is it possibly you ovulated later then you normally do?

Pinkie, maybe it was just the machine, like dollface said. I know someone who was told the same thing and they referred her to the hospital which had a better machine and everything was fine! Keeping everything crossed for you.

I forgot to mention, my OB's machine couldn't even measure the heart rate - it was all visual. Some docs in small practices just don't have the 'Porsche' model of ultrasounds. When I saw her with DS, she was in a larger practice with more doctors and the had the 'Bentley' version of ultrasounds that could see and tell you everything!

Thanks all for your encouraging words. My mood is better today - I am hopeful and cautiously optimistic. I'll be back on Monday with an update.

Pinkie I'm sorry -that is so stressful. Try to think positive until Monday - I know, easier said than done!
Tracie Yay for the ultrasound on Monday! I called my OB before my first appointment, to make sure they would get me in for one...you have more patience than I do!
I am anxious for my next OB appt - seems forever away-next Thursday. I'm also anxiously awaiting my NT scan, which will be in 2 weeks from today. I think that I will plan to take that day off work, since I have to go 45 minutes away for it. I can't remember how long it took with my DS, but it seems like I remember it taking a little while. Plus I'll have to get blood drawn too. Not to mention, it gives me an opportunity to do some shopping afterwards...they just opened a new BuyBuyBaby store & I'm dying to go!:p
I am utterly exhausted today and quite naseus feeling too, no matter what I eat. I feel totally hung over-ugh!

So for you guys who are getting the NT, if it comes back questionable will you get the amnio? I'm thinking about canceling the NT because I don't think I want to do an amnio either way. I'm not really sure what I want to do, though.

If my NT were to come back questionnable then I probably would have an amnio...I would probably wait until closer to 20 weeks for the amnio though, because I think that they are less risky the later they are done? With my DS I had the NT scan and it showed our chances of downs or anything to be very, very low.

Maniach: I am not getting an NT. I don't think I would do the amnio. I'm not sure if I would with a singleton, but teh reason I am not doing an NT is b/c of the twins since I heard false positives are higher. My cousin had an NT and they told her her risk was high for downs and so she went through all the amnio, stress, etc only to find out it was a false positive.
McG: I'm sorry you aren't feeling well!
Question: Today at my u/s they said I had a very small subchorionic hematoma but the bleed was so slight that she wasn't worried about it nor was she putting me on restrictions. She said not to be surprised if I have spotting, since it was really low down near my cervix, but I haven't had any. Has anyone had this?

04-01-2009, 01:24 PM
ND I have not had it, but if your OB said it was so small and wasn't concerned about it, then try not to worry about it. I have heard of people that have large bleeds and they are more troublesome. If I were you, I would just take it easy - don't do anything strenuous and if the bleeding is heavier or anything, call your OB. It's something that I think you would want monitored to make sure it's OK. I imagine with all the ultrasounds you've been having that they have a close watch on you already!

NT scan - I had it with DS and it came back fine, but if the blood work comes back questionable, I will do and amnio.
Speaking of NT scans - that brings up early gender guesses. I came across this posted on FF...
http://baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html
Very interesting! Last time around, the peri told us at out NT scan that she thought it was an 80% of a girl - and he was all boy!

I have no experience of an NT so I am not able to give advise on that.
I got to go for a long walk today. I kind of have gotten out of running for now. I am just too tired to do that. It is a struggle to come home and then get back out. My bedtime now is about 8-8:30. Getting harder to get up too.
When I got ready to go for my walk I put on a short sleeve shirt and noticed that today my belly was HUGE!!! I think I am either just bloated or just from eating today. I was quite surprised. It feels weird with the extra weight. Luckily my clothes still fit. I will ask for money for maternity clothes for my birthday in May.

I'm super bloated myself... it's kind of annoying because I just feel fat... It's a little nicer when this blubber solidifies and you start looking pregnant, lol.

I'm not sure what we'll do with the results from our screening. I really don't think I would get an amnio.
Does anyone have any tips for morning sickness during your commute? I have about a half hour drive on the expressway and today I was looking for anything I could throw up in just in case. I may have to put a kit together because I don't see that being much fun at all!

Sorry I've been MIA. My computer got some horrible virus from Facebook and our internet it down. I'm posting at my moms!!
pinkie - I'll be praying for you and your bean!
NT scan - just had mine and the risk was low for both downs and trisomy. 1/2,000 and 1/10,000. BUT if it came back borderline I would have done the amnio. I'd rather know what I'm dealing with, but that's me.

I don't have any ideas for you but I had the same problem this morning, and my commute is half yours and all on surface streets. It definitely helps me to not be too hot. Other than that, I got nothing.

Delurking for ND in re: a SCH - I had a massive one during my most recent pregnancy. Bled and bled for months and was on bedrest but DS2 came out just fine and right on time. If yours is tiny and your doc says not to worry, then don't worry. :) Tiny = good.

I was going to hijack and tell you the same thing. With DS I bleed for over 15 weeks. Heavy at first and then spotting for months. And he's a health almost 4 year old! I was never on complete bedrest with him until the end of the pregnancy!

morning sickness I've heard that vitamin B6 helps some and unisom, if it's really bad. Unisom is a sleep aid though, so I don't know about taking it during the day & being functional! I've heard that ginger can also help - ginger root or tea. Also have heard that peppermint really helps some people too. Some people get a fragrance oil that makes them feel better and carry a cloth with it in their purse so they can smell it whenever they start feeling bad.

ND I'll echo the others ... I had a MASSIVE sub-chorionic bleed around 9 weeks with my son (like, gushed about a cup of bright red blood out of nowhere) and he's fine!

Wow, ali. Scary but glad it was nothing major!
I will 2nd ginger root for m/s. I have it whenever I feel sick in general. I will grate it into tea or I will candy it (or buy it candied).

Stephie - I really haven't had morning sickness. Others have given some good relief advice. I hope that it works for you.
We picked out our crib yesterday. We found a good crib, conversion rails and toddler rails for just over $500. Which is a lot better than what we found previously. Some cribs have ran over $500 not including the conversion pieces. Very thankful that the grandparents are covering the crib. We got a few clothing items (1 boy & 1 girl) shirt. Just to have. It feels so awesome to look at baby clothes. So small. So precious.
I am going to be brave and post a picture. My sisters wanted to see a belly shot. So I am going to email them one. So from now on I am going to do it every week and post it in my baby blog.
Not much going on today. Have my nephew's birthday party to go to today. Then to the grocery store. We celebrated my Dh's 30th birthday last night. He had a great birthday. We have wonderful friends and family.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

I'll be 14 weeks on Monday. I just got the results from my NT Ultrasound and everything came out well. My next appointment is the 21st of April. I'll schedule my big ultrasound at that point. I really think it's a girl. I guess it's wishful thinking! ;)
Everything on my front is well. Still sick. Still on Zofran about every other day now. I was sick with Mia until 22-23 weeks so I guess this time it's better if I'm doing my Zofran every other day. I need to call me in another round of meds, though. I'm about out.
Notdesperate: With my first daughter, I had 4 Ju Ju Bes. You will not be disappointed. I have had a couple, my first being the Be All. LOVED it. I still have the backpack one (can't remember the name right now) and used it once Mia got older and I was chasing her around.

KLU - Nice belly! Yay for picking out the crib & even better-yay for excited Grandparents that help out like that! That's great. My IL's bought us our crib & changing table for DS-it was a life saver! I'm not expecting such help this time around so am going to be getting a toddler bed & hoping I can transition DS out of crib into a toddler bed during the summer.
cam Yay for good NT results. I'm anxious for mine next Wednesday-mainly so I can see what's going on with the little pumpkin in there though!
I was extremely nauseus yesterday - it was worse in the afternoon & I'm hoping today is not going to be a repeat, although, I'm feeling like it may be. DH is working today and I'm wanting to get some housework done, since I never get any done during the week. By the time I get home, dinner, baseball practice for DSS and get DS in bed, I take about 30 mins to an hour to myself and go am in bed usually by 9- 9:30ish.
