Yeah for us hitting the second trimester!

OK, so where are all the belly pics ladies? We are going to start taking them this week - I want DH to take a weekly picture in front of our garden, so we can track how both my belly and plants bloom from Winter to Summer :) Silly, I know.

Yes, well, I have taken a couple, but feel so blah to show anything yet.
I promise I will start sharing soon!

geesh... you'd think that being a photography student I'd be so on top of belly pictures... alas I am not. I feel so busy from all of my other work that taking pictures of myself seems to be pushed to the side.

We got an assignment to do a series of nude portraits and a girl in my class asked to do me and I agreed. :eek: Yikes! I just said I'm ok with it as long as their are no full on butt shots. I really hate my butt! It is going to be weird seeing my naked self in front of all of my peers thought...

Yea for the second tri!

Belly shots No way, no how. I think I've got like 4 pics total from both pgcys where I happen to be in them and pregnant. Yikes! :o BerBer, you are my hero! I wish I had that much confidence! :)

I probably won't be one to take belly shots. I wasn't with my first pregnancy either. I guess I'm just weird that way. :o

My next appointment is March 10

My last appointment went good. I even got a glimpse of the little monkey on the ultrasound machine because they couldn't get the heartbeat on the doppler yet.
After a very rough weekend last weekend, I finally broke down and asked for some Zofran. It helps most definitely.

Question: For any of you that had gestational diabetes with the first pregnancy, are you being tested earlier with this pregnancy? I'm just wondering if I need to go ahead and start checking mine periodically or what. I don't know why I didn't think to ask the doctor that last week when I was there!:rolleyes:

Jen309
02-19-2009, 11:07 AM
jnm83 I was lucky enough to not have GD with either of my other two, but since I've moved and thus have been to two new practices, they both do an early GD 1hr GTT, like at 8 wks. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I thought it might be helpful to know that there are some docs out there who test early, so you shouldn't feel like it's too soon if you want to be tested before 28 wks.

lady1297
02-19-2009, 03:35 PM
GD: No idea. I barely passed last time, though. But Doc didn't say anything yet about it, so I'm running the other way. That stuff makes me want to vomit. ;)]

---
OMG. I bought jelly beans the other day and sat and ate WAY to many today. I'm so sick from it. I wish I hadn't done it. I was trying to stay awake until bus drop off, so I kept eating them. guess I put on the pound I'd lost between the last two doc appointments though! LOL!

Chimichanga
02-19-2009, 04:03 PM
GD - yes, I tested early (with the Bean and with my m/c) and was positive both times. I think many doctors will now test early if you had it previously or had a large baby (I think it's 9 pounds or larger but I could be wrong). You can test if your strips and stuff are still good, just to be on the safe side.

My OB asked if I had been checking and I said no. My stuff was expired.

Good morning ladies. Not much is new around here-- I'm actually taking the day off today since I'm somewhat over my cold.

I plan to go to our HUGE fabric warehouses here and start looking for bedding/curtain options (I hope to make the curtains, bumpers- if I have them, and possibly bed skirts. And, once I have an idea of the colors, then I can have an idea of upholstery options for the rocker.

There's a very large private school here in Atlanta that annually has an incredible artists market that highlights artists of all mediums in the SE. I went yesterday and found an incredible painted piece for the babies' room. It's so hard to explain, so I'll have to soon post a picture so you can see. I just love it and totally had to hide the price tag from DH-- actually, I decided to pay for it. The one I REALLY wanted was $900 and I can't justify that right now when we're just starting to buy things for the room. I did get the artist's name, so maybe later......:p

In terms of sickies, I'm feeling so much better and can actually eat, even meat. My belly is certainly showing now, so it's starting to feel more 'real.'

In terms of belly shots, we started ours at 14 1/2 weeks last Sunday and will continue each week. I'll try to post some soon.

I just can't wait to feel these little ones moving around! Happy Friday!

We're leaving today for the Bahamas Cruise and I won't be back til next Sunday.

Belly shots- I took them with my girls and will def this time. I'll try to remember to take them this Wed @ 14 weeks, the official start of the 2nd tri.

Can't wait to see the artwork, tandt.

GD- Fortunately, I don't really have any experience with that. I've only been tested at 28 weeks and always passed.

poodle ~ Bon Voyage!!!

tandt ~Can't wait to see the artwork and also whatever fabric you select. I can't believe you're going to make all that stuff yourself! I'm very impressed by anyone who can sew!

Belly Shots ~ I only did 1 picture at 20 weeks when I was pg w/DD2 and I *really* regretted it later. With DD1 I did them every 4 weeks starting at (I think) 12 weeks pg. I really like being able to look back on them and I really wish I had that documentation w/DD2. I'll definitely be doing them this time, IF my stupid camera cooperates. I'm having major issues w/it and I don't know what's going on. Everything is blurred and sort of purple. It's a Canon digital. Any of our photographers have any ideas?? :D

I found this after some googling.

This is a known issue with some models of Canon cameras. What has happened is that your camera's imaging sensor (CCD) has become partially or fully detached from its wiring. Luckily, Canon has acknowledged the fault and is offering to repair any and all affected units for free (including free shipping both ways), whether they're under warranty or not. You can read the applicable service notice (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=223&modelid=9824) and then request a repair online. (https://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=OnlineRepairBookingAct&fcategoryid=223&modelid=9824)

Today we had a committee meeting at work. I was soooooo tired after it! I was out to dinner last night (my boss took pity on me and my 45 minute drive home and let me leave right after dinner; I must have looked worn out) and then this morning I was at work super early to do some non-meeting work and get stuff organized.

I had one of those emotional build-up and let down, hence the massive exhaustion. My boss let me leave at 4 today and I napped for about an hour when I got home - so nice.

I did take a belly shot today - just have to upload it. Probably tomorrow. :) Heading to bed soon!! :D

Chimi~I'm sorry you are so exhausted. Its funny b/c I remember writing a week or so ago that I thought my exhaustion was gone, and then I started going to bed around 8pm again! lol.
I can not WAIT to see your belly shot! I'll do one tomorrow! Although I wish I was more sure about it.....ah well :)

I've had the week from hell in terms of blood sugar :( My numbers have been crazy. I called my diabetes counselor to alert her of them and see what course of action she wants to take. I am waiting to hear back (I emailed in my numbers).

Blah! :mad: Not too happy with myself, but I know there's only so much I can do - I'm not "failing" it's my body's reaction, blah blah blah.

Chimi - I really hope you hear back from your doctor about the blood sugars.

Well, I seem to have developed a new wonderful pg symptom...I have a horribly painful hemerroid. Probably TMI, but it is so painful I am afraid to go to the bathroom and it is keeping me up at night. I called the ob to see if they had ideas on other things to try (tried baths, prep-h cream and tucks pads). I am waiting to hear back. This really stinks, especially since I never had this issue with my other 2 pgs. I did deep yoga squats the day before, and was on my feet for 4 hours at the garden show...right before the symptom came to my attention. All I can say is ouch!

OK, here are 2 14 week belly shots of me in the garden. The lighting is horrible (it was late afternoon) and I look yucky...but you can still see the bump emerging (along with a couple of my bulbs if you look closely!). No need to post on the front page.

Awww yoganut and sunshine! :D

I did hear back from the doctor - going to try a new approach at breakfast but she didn't say if she wanted me to start on insulin before meals (from my understanding if I had lowered breakfast carbs and my numbers were still high then I would do the insulin. But, since I haven't lowered yet, I am to try that for a few days to see).

i also think I'm getting a cold which might be why I feel like hammered arse. Going to take some Tylenol cold and gargle with hot salt water to get rid of the sore throat.

Hi ladies,

My name's Jen and I am currently a member of the Sept Mamas. I've been lurking here, though, because my due date was kind of fuzzy and originally set to Sept 4, now its been moved to August 30, and since I will have a repeat c-section, the baby will arrive the week of August 24. So I thought I'd better introduce myself and ask if you guys mind that I continue to "lurk"!

I don't know if I will officially join, since you all know each other so well and have already gone thru one trimester together (plus, I'm co-threadmistress for sept). But I wanted to stop in and say hello, and maybe post from time to time if that is okay.

Thanks ladies,
Have a great week and Happy Fat Tuesday! ("fat tuesday" has a whole new meaning when your pg, doesn't it!)

I'm sad (devastated actually) to report that I won't be an August mommy after all. I went for my prenatal visit today (14w) and my MW couldn't find a HB. I had an U/S which showed my perfectly formed beautiful baby... without a heartbeat. We had seen the baby's heartbeat at 10 weeks and everyone at the office was so shocked this happened. My baby just died within the past day or so because it measures on target for 14weeks and everything is very well formed and the placenta and amniotic fluid all looked good. Except for the heartbeat, everything was perfect.

Due to it being the 2nd trimester, they won't perform a D&E. I have to go to the hospital tomorrow morning for an induction to labor & deliver my baby. If you are the praying type, please send one up my way as this will be the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

I wish all of you the best.

Hi ladies-- sorry I've been MIA lately, but not too much going on.

Since hearing about mamax's loss yesterday, I've been so bummed out. My heart has just been broken for her and I can't believe a baby was lost as we're in the 2nd tri thread. It really goes to show that until our babies are delivered, there's really no safe zone.

Our peri appt is tomorrow afternoon, so I'm not really sure what they're planning to do. I hope there's an u/s scheduled, of course.

Since DH and I found furniture this weekend that we both really like, we mapped out the room last night. It's tough with two cribs, the glider we like (that's big enough for two babies) and the dresser we like. We may have to just do a changer versus dresser to get back some space. The monkey-wrench in it all is the air vent that we can't block. Other than that, I think I chose my fabric for the bedding, curtains, etc (they're a green & white damask).

Question for you ladies--
Based on our NTT results (both u/s and bloodwork that carries like a 90% accuracy rate), with Downs, our chance is 1:4821 and with Trisomy 13/18, our chance is 1:8621. Given that I'm 35 and these are the #s of a 20 yr old, if these were your numbers, would you have an amnio?

The docs are going to keep asking me for an answer. Part of me says no-- I wouldn't take any actions based on the results, but part of me would like to prepare if something is wrong.

yoganut
02-25-2009, 08:50 AM
tandt - Just jumping in to give my perspective on the amnio. Based on the numbers you shared, things look great. I think I shared my story earlier, but my results for baby #2 based on NT measure and bloodwork was like 1/200 and I was 32 at the time. In that case they encouraged me to get an amnio, but it wasn't essential. I did get the amnio so that I would be armed with all the info, and am glad I did. The baby was completely healthy and normal. That said, the amnio carries some risk for miscarriage. I actually had some fluid leakage for 2 days after, which was so scary. The amniotic sack needs to heal itself after the needle insertion.

Ultimately, your decision to do amnio depends on how comfortable you are not 'knowing' in absolute terms (though your probability for healthy babies looks great), balanced against risk of the test. One other thing to keep in mind is they will go into a lot of detail on your u/s since you are carrying twins, and check for 'soft markers' for Down's. I would wait until that is done at least before I moved forward with an amnio.

Mama - I have been praying for you and wish you strength beyond your own understanding today.

tandt
02-25-2009, 09:06 AM
Thank you yoga-- that's great advice. My concern about the amnio is the risk of m/c, especially since my risk is already elevated with carrying two babies.

I think, too, I'm going to ask the peri tomorrow to see what his thoughts are. My OB really hasn't offered any opinion, but keeps saying it's 'our choice.' I know they won't really offer an opinion to protect themselves, but it would be nice to have some guidance.

Hmmm, the blood test is 90% accurate? I was sure my doctor told me it is more like a 65% accuracy rate. I had a false positive the last time, which makes me worry about doing the test again. The u/s I agree has a high accuracy rate, as it was able to tell us our baby did not have Downs.

Either way :) Based on your numbers I would not have an amnio. Again, that is just me :) The only way I was going to have an amnio was after we had the higher risk of Downs, and then after the u/s, if the scan still showed a higher risk, we would go ahead with it. Because the u/s showed a lower risk, we decided against it. The risks of the amnio (Albeit low) scared the crap out of me.

~~~
My next doc appointment is tomorrow. Will hear the heartbeat, and have a lovely pap done.....And I also need to tell the doc if I want the NTT done.
I am worried b/c I had a false high risk reading with my DD. I am going to ask the doctor if the chances of me getting another false "positive" is the same as last time, or if it would increase considering I already had one.
If the chances are the same I will do it, but the sad thing is, if we do get a higher reading, I can not act on it. I would have to drive 3 hours away for the u/s.....and I just can not afford it with the shutdown starting next week. So I am at a loss as to what to do.
I have definitely started feeling the baby move. Almost every day I feel it. It is reassuring, but still not enough.
I hope everyone is well! Still thinking of mamax.
Thanks sunshine for your thoughts-- actually, the 90% was with the u/s and bloodwork results combined. I can see where it may not have read correctly what I put.
I'm leaning towards not having it-- just too many things can go wrong.
Good luck tomorrow!
I have my peri appt this afternoon. Honestly, I'm not feeling any movement yet. I thought at one time I did, but now nothing. I hope everything is okay-- I seem to be picking up two heartbeats on the doppler, but we'll see.
Does movement start earlier for ROs you think?
Uggghhh, why can't there just be a window where we can peek in there any time we want?
Sunshine
02-26-2009, 09:45 AM
tandt~Apparently RO's can feel movement a lot earlier than for first time moms. I definitely did not feel movement this early with my 1st.....and even the first few times feeling it with this baby I pushed it aside, but once you have felt it with your first, it is so easy to know that what you are feeling is baby! I can just remember the feeling like it was yesterday with my DD......once it started happening again anyhow.
I think I was 17 weeks when I knew what I was feeling with my 1st was baby moving!
And lol, I have wished for a window too! Wouldn't that be nice!
Thanks for the luck!
Does movement start earlier for ROs you think?
I don't necessarily think it starts earlier, but I think Ros have "been there done that" with feeling baby movement. So what might feel like gas or "nothing" ROs know "yeah, that's the baby moving." ;)
I had an emotional breakdown with DH this morning. Ugh. I suggested we meet for lunch today. We had NOTHING that I could take for lunch today. Well, nothing that sounded appealing (either PB&J or a cheese sandwhich. Yum :rolleyes: ). He says "No, what about tomorrow?" Well, tomorrow is Friday and I can't have meat. I prefer to have a burger or something when we go out because I want it to be a hearty lunch.
I didn't really say anything and he goes, "Well, we can have lunch today I guess." I get steamed - and when I get mad I get quiet. I told him no, that's fine. We won't meet for lunch today. After we get off the phone I start sobbing. Yes, I realize it's all hormones and in reality; this was pretty stupid. But I cried for about 10 minutes. When we swapped cars so he could take DD home I started crying again. he offered to come meet me, but by then the damage had been done.
I don't think I want to meet him for lunch tomorrow either. I don't like restaurant fish (although I do like fish frys from places I know) and it's too cold to just have a plain salad.
Okay - thanks for listening. :)
Tandt I didn't feel movement that I could definitively say was the baby until 20-21 wks with my first, second I think it was around 15-16 wks. This time it was around 14.... BUT a lot has to do with placenta placement as well. I don't know where this one is yet, but my others were in the frontish side, and I've had the experience twice now, so you should be feeling something these next couple weeks. It really is a light little thing, like a hunger pang, not big rolling or anything (yet). Also, fetuses sleep A LOT, so maybe baby is active when you are and sleepy when you are too? Hope your peri appt goes well! As for the window, maybe we can just borrow the u/s machine from Tom and Katie! :rolleyes:(at them, not you!)
Chimi Oh, I hear you on the hormones! We drove by the elementary school where the kids will go in a few years (we only live a block and a half away, so we're by there ALL THE TIME)... I got to thinking about what it will be like on #1's first day and started bawling in the car. :rolleyes: DH was really confused, b/c we're just driving along and suddenly I'm Mary Soggyeyes. I hope your DH comes around to understand what happend and that you wound up with a fantastic lunch one way or another. :D
Tandt - I know what you mean about wishing for the magic belly window. As far as movement goes, I was feeling it a few weeks ago when the baby was lower (and more squished when I sat at my desk), and then nothing. Now, I think I felt the baby again yesterday, but it definitely isn't consistent yet - and I am sure I would overlook it if I didn't know what the baby felt like from before. Hang in there and good luck with your appointment.
TMI - I am having a horrible symptom, that I never had issues with before...the dreaded H. So, it started last Saturday where I had major pressure and pain in my bottom...when I went to see what was going on I was shocked to discover I had developed a major hemorrhoid. :eek: It was seriously so bad this weekend that it was keeping me up at night. I tried over the counter stuff all weekend, with little help. So, I called my ob on Monday, and eventually the nurse called me back to say they would call in a rx med. That seemed to help a lot. Until, this morning (luckily I am working from home today), I had a normal bm, except there was a 1/2 inch blood clot like thing and a lot of red blood. I immediately called the ob again, left a message and haven't heard a thing back. It has been 3 hours. I am sorry, but anything dealing with bleeding and pg, I would think would warrant a quick response. So, I called my regular doctor, and they don't want to see me because I am pg. I am so frustrated! So, I finally called the office of the ob I am switching to (on Monday), to see if they could see me any earlier. I am just so ready to get out of this current ob practice - they are inept! Unfortunately, the new practice is booked solid (which I can understand). At least the receptionist treated my issue with some sort of urgency, and said they would have one of THEIR nurses call me back. I was impressed, considering I am not even a formal patient with them yet.
I know there probably isn't much they can do, but I need to know whether I continue to use the medication that the other nurse prescribed. It is hydorcortisone, and I am worried about it entering my bloodstream if I have any break in skin. I am so uncomfortable and afraid to go to the bathroom again. :( :(
chimi, your hormones must be doing a number. I'm sorry you had such a rough time. Sometimes men don't 'get it'-- hormones or not. :)
We're not eating meat tomorrow either, so it should be interesting to see what we end up getting-- I need to keep up my nutrition too.
yoga, my heart just goes out to you. I can't imagine your frustration and anxiety right now. You're right-- blood and pg just don't go together at all. I hope you get some answers soon. Honestly, I'm so nervous about Hs too. I'm sorry...
*****
Thanks for everyone's thoughts on the movement and the amnio.
We had our peri appt today and everything looks great-- the two little beans were kung fu fighting all over. Two heartbeats, two heads, two spines, four hands, twenty fingers, two feet, etc. Whew... The doc said everything looks right on track and coupled with the NTT results, the chances are very slim for any issues-- but, of course the choice of amnio is ours, yada, yada, yada.
We told the nurse we didn't want to know the sexes, so she told us when she was moving south. Of course DH asked at the end if she could tell and she said yes. I think that I'm really excited about not knowing--I'm going to try and keep that up for the next few months.
jen, loved the Tom & Katie comment! Honestly, though, if I could get one and use it, I probably would-- I'm just a freak like that. :)
tandt - That is awesome news about your peri appt. Yeah for kung foo fighting! :D That is awesome. OK, and I am so impressed that you were able to resist the urge to know...times TWO babies! I would never be able to hold out on knowing with 2 - hey, I can't hold out with 1. The sooner I know the better!
I am impressed with the new ob practice. A very knowledgeable nurse called me back shortly after my post. Essentially, this is just going to be something I will have to deal with during this pregnancy. Wah! They just said to keep using the medicine, eat lots of fiber, take stool softeners and drink water. Good times. My DH is so tired of hearing about my aching arse. Oh, still no word from ob office #1. This sure validates my decision to switch, in my mind.
So, my Monday appointment is apparently going to be a long appointment (according to the receptionist). I wonder if I get an u/s?? :rolleyes: Probably not...I can't imagine that would be standard with intake at 15+ weeks. I did say to DH though, that if they offered it and could see the gender, would he care if I found out on my own...he said he wouldn't. (DH can't make it to this appt.). Ah well, a gal can wish.
yoga, I had a terrible time with constipation early on and you may remember my TMI post about my time in the bathroom a few weeks ago that almost took me to the ER.
Well, I think you're absolutely right about the changes to make-- I began again taking Benefiber (in the chewable tablets that kinda taste like candy)and eating more fruits. But, I think the biggest thing has been my increased water intake.
For twins, I should have eight 16oz glasses of water each day anyway. So, that is roughly four 'big gulp' cups a day. So, I have a few of those large cups from McDonalds and Five Guys that I use every day. It's easy to track the intake and drinking from a straw really, really helps it all go down.
Honestly, I'm SICK of water, but it has helped with my bathroom habits! Hope this helps!
Yoga - so sorry to hear about the issues. But, i'm glad the new office is more helpful. That has to be a big relief for you.
tandt - I'm with yoga; I can't believe you're able to hold out on the sexes - but good for you! :D
As for me, another pseudo-emotional day. (argh!)
I ended up staying in for lunch yesterday and today. I just didn't want to deal with it. I was thinking of "fun' things to do with DD this weekend and I thought "What about an indoor water park?!?" Then of course I loved the idea and had to do it.
We live near a large water park area (Wisconsin Dells) so there are numerous options. I find a nice resort that's offering a per night rate of $60. :eek: Amazing considering every other place is $200+ for a Saturday night!
I called to check on availability and they had rooms free for tomorrow night. The woman did say the discount was due to the large facility being closed; they had a pool, kiddie pool with lots of goodies/toys, hot tub and sauna open. Perfect for us! DD would love the kiddie pool and DH is not much for water slides. I normally am, but not while preggers.
I called DH to tell him about this and he was hemming and hawing about it. I got pissed and told him to forget it. His rationale was we shouldn't spend the money, and while it's only $60 for the hotel, it would be $50 in gas, plus meals, and it would get expensive.
While I see that, I figured this would be an "on the cheap" day. We wouldn't need the SUV - the car would work just fine. We'd take food from home and maybe pick up a pizza or KFC or something for dinner. Max $$$ - $100.
So, we're not doing that. :( Maybe we'll do bumper bowling or something. I want to get DD out of the house and spend some time doing "fun' stuff before the baby comes.
chimi, I'm so sorry sweetie. I can tell you really got excited about this trip and then for your DH to say no had to be a downer.
These men-- why can't they just say YES sometimes and let us have our way, right?
If it's any comfort, I got DH this book that's a guide for new dads and it compares the brains of how a woman is feeling during pg and how different it is from a man's. Basically, the woman is thinking of the baby specifically, preparation, etc while men are thinking about the finances, supporting the child, etc. It's mean to be humorous, but it's so true.
Stay strong sweetie-- maybe you and that little angel girl of yours can do something special together this weekend anyway.
chimi and jen, I hope you ladies are feeling better. Uggghhh, eating something that didn't agree-- I can't imagine how terrible that must feel.
Not too much is happening here-- just seemingly growing every other day. None of my regular pants even come close to fitting and only a few tops will continue to grow with me.
I told my CCD class (which is basically Catholic Sunday School) yesterday and they were funny. It's 5 yo's and we talked about what they would name a twin sister or brother if they had one. Not quite sure if they fully *get* it, but I'm sure when I'm big as the side of a house that it will start to become real.
No kicking yet from the babies, just funny feelings inside.
We registered Friday night at BRU-- that was quite an adventure, but I think we're done with that place. Now, we have to register at Walmart or Target to reach the other folks where a BRU isn't there.
Honestly, there's just way too much baby junk out there-- thank heavens our house is older and smaller, so I'm committed to weeding through the junk and just concentrating on the necessities.
tandt - I hear you on all the stuff!!! Two friends are due with their first child; one in May the other in July. I checked out the one due in May's registry... lots of stuff that she more than likely won't use. Of course I didn't say anything because that would be incredibly rude.
She did mention that she feels she has absolutely no clue what is "right" or what the baby will actually need. I told her she'd get it once the baby came. Not that she doesn't have a clue now - but that the baby will really determine what she will use.
Our DD hated pacifiers - she used them for maybe 3 weeks then refused them. We had about 20 pacis at home that got put away pretty quick.
Chimi- ugh, I'm sorry DH wouldn't go for the water park, that sounds like a lot of fun and cheap for 3 ppl. Both of my DD's hated the paci, they're both thumb suckers. LOL, yeah I laugh when I see some of the stuff on people's registries, like the wipes warmer for instance. I registered for one with my 1st pregnancy, got it, then thought wtf do I really need this and took it back. Also, I always wonder why people get pink gear. What if you have a boy next? They're only in the pumpkin seat for about 6 months. I wouldn't want to buy all new stuff. Wonderful belly shot! I can't wait to find out who everyone has hiding in their bellies.
tandt- oh how fun with the little 5-yr-olds! I'm so glad your appt went so well. Excellent willpower- We're not finding out the sex either but I told DH that if we had twins I was going to overrule him and def find out. The baby will most likely be in the bassinet in our bedroom the 1st 3 months anyway so I have 3 months to worry about nursery decor. I know I should use the stuff from DD1 (it's gender neutral) but I don't know if I want to.:p
yoganut- look at that cute little bump! Ugh, sorry about the dreaded H. I dodged them with both pregnancies but got 1 when I was pushing DD2 out. It hasn't really bothered me that much but I do worry about how it's going to play out this pregnancy and if I'll get more. I think if they get too bad you can have them/it cauterized. I know someone who had this done her last tri b/c she was in so much pain. They wanted to wait til after she delivered but she cried and begged.
I got DH to take a couple belly shots on the cruise. These were taken last week at 14 weeks, the start of the 2nd tri, yay!
I have an OB appt tomorrow. I'm very nervous/excited to hear the h/b again. I'm sure my weight will not be good. I just got back from a cruise where all you do is eat, eat, and eat, plus I got my GS cookies today, oy.
tandt - It sounds like you have been doing a fair amount of nesting :D That is great. I haven't put much thought into what we will need for this baby - except for telling my friends and neighbors that I would be happy to borrow their baby gear (swing, exersaucer, Bjorn). We got rid of a lot of stuff when we moved, though I do have the major essentials - co-sleeper, crib, carseats, my plush glider. I think we are going to buy the boys a new taller dresser and use their existing dresser as the baby's dresser/changing table (it matches the crib)...though I haven't told DH that yet :rolleyes: In this economy, I am happy to borrow as much gear as possible.
poodlelover - You have such a cute belly! I am glad you enjoyed the cruise...it must have been relaxing.
Well, I went to the new ob today - and it was such a good move. The office is nice, and efficient. The staff was so welcoming and competent. I really like the ob as well. She is young, but very pro-active and I trust that she is going to provide great care.
The baby was very busy moving around - like usual! This one sure seems to be active! HR was in the high 160's. I have only gained 7 lbs since the start of my pg, which is good since I was starting heavier than with my earlier pgs (and I gained 40lbs with each of them :eek:). I really hope this means I am on track for gaining less than 30lbs this time.
Big u/s is scheduled for 3/24! I can't wait to find out if this one is a boy or girl.
Ahhh, you're right! I'm trying to get as much of this out of the way now so I can be prepared for these beans to come early-- the nursery will be the big thing since I'm going to try and sew some of the items and others take a while for delivery.
Plus, my mom's taking the BRU registry to Walmart to mirror the choices, so she'll need some time-- she thinks she can't do it in one trip. Gheez, she's so dramatic!
Great news on the appt-- movin' around and wigglin'!
poodle, cute, cute belly! I think we're built almost the same so our bellies look so similar. I hope the cruise was a blast.
chimi, you're so right about not knowing exactly what we'll need, so it's very bare of a registry. The registry guy even suggested we didn't have 'enough' items-- whatever dude, this is all we need.
Actually, there's a multiples group here in Atlanta (that I just learned about) who's having a consignment sale this Saturday-- they're selling baby and maternity things, so I think I'm going to check it out.
That's neat! In theory, the only things you *NEED* are clothes/onesies, diapers, a place to put the kids to sleep, carseats and a way to feed the kids (if not bf). The place to put the kids to bed is debatable - co-sleep, right to the crib, etc, and really you could use a carseat for awhile.
The extras - strollers, swings, bassinets, etc - are just that. Extras that are nice to have (in some instances necessary to have) but can be done without. ;)
Just found out my BFF is having a boy. She really wanted a girl, but she said she was not disappointed at all. I gave her a "I told you so" because I did tell her that once she heard that news, it really wasn't going to matter what was said - she was just going to be so happy.
Another friend and I are throwing her a shower in May. I'm excited! :D
Maternity Clothes
So I've just spent $81 on maternity clothes at Old Navy. I couldn't holdout any longer. I feel like my belly just pushed out overnight or something. I bought a pair of jeans, 2 tank tops, 2 t-shirts, a long sleeve top and a maternity cardigan. I really hope I'm going to be able to stretch that stuff out for as long as possible. I know I have to buy at least 2 dresses, one for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding I'm in and another for our trip to Florida in April where I'm shooting a wedding. I also might have to buy a nicer shirt too for when we go out to dinner and a family reunion and my class reunion. Otherwise I hope I don't have to waste too much more on clothes.
Tandt~Wow, you are on top of things... I haven't started to think about baby stuff yet at all really. Thanks for that much needed kick in the pants!
Chimi~I'm going to the Dells in a few weekends with some girls and staying at the Kalihari over night. I can't wait. I'm sorry you weren't able to get away but, hey keep your eyes peeled for more deals and this time just go with your DD! A little R&R is so nice!
yoganut~I'm so glad you are feeling more comfortable with your new OB. Gosh that other office sounded like they really dropped the ball. I'm also taking a ton of hand me downs too! We are pretty broke and don't want to spend too much on stuff that we don't need.
So far we have an infant car seat, some clothes, a baby bathtub and the lady I nanny for is getting tons of stuff together for me since she is done having kids.
poodlelover~ your belly is so cute! It looks like a little ball just pushed out of your tummy! I'm still looking kinda chubby!:rolleyes:
Did I get to everyone??? I hope so!
Oh yeah, I just had to order more material for a wedding I'm in on June 6th. This is the dress I have to wear in the bright orange color under the hot pink...:cool: I'm going to look so dumb 30 weeks pregnant in this... thought I'd share to give ya'll a laugh!
Oh yeah, I'm 5'1 too so it isn't like this dress was exactly built for someone short and curvy to begin with...
Oh Berber...my heart goes out to you! That definitely isn't a style that is very forgiving of a pg belly. I guess you just need to put a smile on and OWN it! And Watters dresses aren't cheap! (I picked one for my bm's - and they weren't cheap 8 years ago).
If it makes you feel any better - I was in 2 weddings the last time I was pg...yes, I now have 2 lovely bm dresses modified to accommodate a big 'ol belly. The dress for my brother's wedding was completely unforgiving, and I literally had to wait for the seamstress to finalize it the day before the wedding because my belly was growing so much at that point! I looked like a stuffed sausage...and my SIL was a total b*&ch about the whole thing. Uh, I swear didn't get pg to ruin your day :eek:
Just make sure to get lots of potty breaks in...I ended up with a severe UTI 2 days after that wedding :eek: which sent me to L&D with pre-term contrax. I still think it is because Bridezilla had our day so programmed that I couldn't get to the potty enough!
BerBer - best of luck with the dress. It's very pretty, but I know where you're coming from with the pregger belly.
I've got a dietician appointment today and then my OB appointment tomorrow. The "not good thing" is that i've lost a few pounds. Normally I'd be jumping for joy, but definitely not now! Not sure if the weight loss will come through on the scale (I'm fully clothed and will have eaten breakfast) but I'll mention it.
Oh berber, you poor thing. That's such a cute dress but like yoga said, not forgiving for a pg belly! And in orange and pink. But, you'll pull it off-- you'll be rockin' that pg glow by then!
My BM dresses were Watters skirts (with a Wang sweater) and just those were pretty expensive.
chimi, good luck with the appts-- my weight is coming back and it's bringing friends. I'm worried the doc will tell me next Wed that I'm gaining too much.
Uggghh, rant here-- I am SO SICK OF DRINKING WATER!!!!! I'm still trying to do my FOUR 32oz cups a day and it keeps me in the bathroom all day and several times a night. Poor DH just can't get a good night's sleep.
Plus, heartburn is hitting me hard this past week-- regardless of what or when I eat. And I'm not buying stock in Tums anytime soon-- they're pretty much useless.
Okay, rant concluded.
I hope everyone is feeling good now and our m/s is o-v-e-r!
tandt - have you tried mix-ins? Not sure which ones would be okay with pregnancy, but they are pretty good. Not high in sugar, low carb but flavorful (and decent flavors at that). You can get them pretty much anywhere and they work for bottles of water.
I'm now on insulin before lunch and dinner. :( It's okay though; I sort of knew it would be coming; I had hoped to avoid it though. But, ultimately it will make for a healthier baby (and mama!) I do like the doctor; she studied under some famous GD doctors at Kaiser in California. I'm seeing her again in April and June and she's also coming to see me after I give birth so we can make sure things are back to normal. She sounds very thorough; unlike the last time where I saw the counselor once and never again.
I actually did look at the mix-ins, especially since I really liked using the Crystal Light before getting p/g. Unfortunately, all that I could see in our grocery store have aspertame as one of the top three or so ingredients.
I decided to get the Country Time Pink Lemonade and have that every now and then. We'll see if that can work.
I'm sorry you're back on insulin, but it seems like you have such a positive attitude towards it!
chimi - I am glad you have such a great specialist for your GD. It sounds like she is being really proactive in staying on top of this for you.
tandt - Have you tried adding a lemon or lime wedge to your water? I started doing that, and it really helps in terms of flavor. I have also taken up drinking through a straw...I know it sounds silly, but I can get more down that way.
Intesting development here. I went back to the perinatologist office to get the second blood draw in my sequential screen this afternoon. My new ob had me just go back to that peri office since the practice doesn't work with the same lab (really just a technicality). Anyways, the nurse asked me if I was scheduled for my 'marker ultrasound.' I hadn't heard of this, and asked for more info. Essentially, she said that it is a level 2 u/s that they do around 16 weeks looking for markers of Down's in addition to the structural measure. It is just another non-invasive tool they can use to assess risk - instead of going to amnio right away.
I told them I thought it sounded interesting, but I didn't know what my new ob's perspective was. Well, the perinatologist called my ob, and my ob said it was up to me and that she would support it. So, long story short, I am getting my u/s done in the perinatologist's office NEXT WEEK!
I can't believe that I will get to see this baby and learn the gender next Thursday! Very exciting.
Big u/s is now 3/12
tandt
yoga, yay for setting the big u/s-- that has to be exciting.
I *think* the one we had last Wed was that-- they measured everything imaginable on the two beans, but didn't call it a 'marker u/s.' However, the peri did say that Wed's u/s results, coupled with the NTT u/s & bloodwork put our chances at a problem at extremely low. So, I guess maybe it was the same u/s (plus, we were 16 weeks then). And, they could have told us the sexes, but of course, we looked away. :D
You are SO right about the straw-- I've been doing that for the past couple of months and it is truly the only way I can drink FOUR 32oz cups of water each day. I'm not the biggest fan of straight lemon in water, but I will certainly give it a shot-- thanks for the suggestion.
***
I've honestly had a crappy, crappy day today-- just dealing with a few things that all came at once. I ranted about this in the multiples thread, but I got into an argument today with my brother.
I'm just SO sick and tired of folks telling me how terrible things will be with twins. Gheez, we don't have one, so I won't know any different. He kept saying that I would NEED to hire a nanny and when I told him that we were keeping options open, he just wouldn't let go. He jut kept on and on and on-- even after I got upset.
I certainly don't need/want parenting advice from him, but that's a whole other thread.
Like I said in the multiples thread, I wish more than just 3 people would say-- 'Congratulations, I'm so happy for you and these are truly a blessing from God.' Not, 'Congatulations, I'm so happy for you-- twins? Wow, you just don't know how tough things will be.' :mad:
((HUGS)) tandt. Try not to let the comments get to you. You are absolutely right that you will not know any different, and you and your DH will be fabulous parents to these babies. They are such blessings, especially after everything you have been through to bring them into this world. Just try and overpower the 'nay-sayers' with your enthusiasm. You can do this!
BTW - It does sound like it is the same thing. The nurse said that between the NT result, blood test and marker evaluation they could be pretty confident in identifying any problems. Which is great, as I really don't want to deal with the stress of an amnio this time. Isn't it fun being 'advanced maternal age'?
tandt - sorry to hear about the argument with your brother :( I think some people just don't know how to react when they hear people are having multiples. My guess is that initial reaction is the "whoa - hands full" type of thing; but hopefully it gets better. Then again I have no point of reference.
If it makes you feel any better, near the end of my pregnancy with DD - I was maybe 30-35 weeks, random strangers would ask me if I was having twins because I was so big. :eek: WTF
And then we took a picture of my belly before we went to the hospital at 38w2d. We showed the picture to family and my wonderful older SIL said "Wow - you're huge!" I think I was still doped up when I said "well, that's what happens when you're pregnant." We don't get along too well... hence the huge comment.
A Child's Angel
By Erma Bombeck
Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born.
One day he asked God: "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
GOD replied, "Among the many angels, I chose one for you. She will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
"But tell me, here in Heaven, I don't do anything else but sing and smile, that's enough for me to be happy."
"Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. And you will feel your angel's love and be happy."
"And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me, if I don't know the language that men talk?"
"Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
"Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."
"I've heard that on earth there are bad men. Who will protect me?"
"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
"Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way for you to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you."
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth could already be heard.
And the child in a hurry asked softly: "Oh God, if I am about to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."
"Your angel's name is of no importance, you will call your angel: 'Mommy'."
Chimi Yea for a great appt! So exciting about your big u/s coming up... It's going to start getting exciting in here when the pink and blue letters start popping up!! :D
Tandt You will be just fine with twins! Yes, it will be hard, but duh, becuase newborns are hard... not so much just b/c there's two! Fortunately, you can't get twice as sleep deprived, you know ;) My friend (a bit older than us) had twins to start and even went on to have 3 more (individual) kids, so there you go! :D Good luck trying to enjoy the fluids. Is there a reason why some of it can't be milk or juices?
tandt
03-06-2009, 08:22 AM
Thank you jen-- you're so sweet and so right. I'm just so ubersensitive and these hormones have me all crazy.
The suggestion for water is that it helps flush out wastes so much more and it supposedly helps the fluids with the babies, etc. Milk and juice are certainly recommended (and I still have to drink these every day too), but drinking too much of these tend to make a mommy not want to eat, since the milk and juice fill up so much more than water and don't 'pass through' as quickly.
Honestly, I feel like I should have one of those funny hats that look like a hard-hat that has the straws coming down from them (usually seen at football games with beer)!
chimi, what a sweet message. Thank you for sharing that-- I truly believe in my heart that each baby is a gift from God.
I guess these are the same people though who think you will be devasted if your child isn't of a certain sex b/c heaven forbid you have 3 of the same.:rolleyes:
LOL at the beer hat, I can totally picture that.
What about gatorade? I don't care for plain water but I can chug gatorade, it's not sweet and it tastes like flavored water. I hate diet anything.
Chimichanga- Beautiful poem!
Ugh, I got the "twins?" comment all.the.time with both of my DD's. I even had a couple women argue with me, saying that I was wrong and that the Dr's were wrong or that my due date was off and that I was due 2 months earlier than what I said. Whatever. People's looks were priceless when I would tell them I'm due Feb 4 when it's the beg of Nov/Dec. They were just so sure I was due any day.
Wow, I can't believe some of us are finding out the gender this month, how freakin' exciting! I can't wait to see what everyone else is having.
Me- My appt on Tue went well. Baby's h/b was 150. The OB said the baby was very "wild" and that she felt sorry for me once I start feeling him/her b/c she/he is going to kick the heck out of me. I told her I already feel flutters and she said she wasn't surprised. I have to decide next week if I want the penta screen. She couldn't do it this week since you have to be at least 15 weeks and not a day earlier. I declined the amnio. If I decide to do the penta screen I just have to walk in next week to have the nurse draw my blood.
I am still getting the Level 2 u/s on Thursday - figure it doesn't hurt, and my insurance covers it because of my age.
Also kind of funny, I had to go to my regular doctor for a recurring ear issue (no big deal, just a pain). I was signing all the paperwork leaned up against the desk, and felt such a big distinct kick that it shocked me. I literally stepped back I was so surprised!
I was having huge sciatic nerve pain for the last few weeks. So much so that I would literally get stuck and DH would have to come and carry me to the couch. I couldn't believe it could be so painful. My doctor said that it might go away when the baby lifted out of the pelvis, but wrote me a referal to a physiotherapist.
Funny thing is yesterday the pain was gone!!!! And today too! I don't know if baby shifted, but WOW!
Other than that, nothing much else happening. Can feel baby moving and grooving, and what felt like a kick yesterday! DH felt the baby moving in 4 days from today with my DD so I hope he can feel this one moving soon too!
Hi ladies--just coming in to say hello since it's been a little quiet around here lately.
I posted in the m/c thread this morning, but wanted to share here too-- today's the due date for our angel baby boy. :(
All said, I think I'm doing okay-- DH left this morning for a business trip for the week, so I'll have free reign to cry all I want without having to share my emotions or such.
Like I said in the m/c thread, it just seems like something's missing-- mainly because it is.
I think having another u/s this coming Wed (DH will miss it though) coupled with hearing the hbs on the doppler today are helping to pacify the raw emotions.
Enough of the sappy stuff-- it's just a sad day and I think I'll spend some time tonight talking to him in heaven. I want to believe he's the guardian angel for these two little ones that are growing-- at least that's what I plan to believe.
Hi ladies. I'm back. Boy, I just don't stick around much! We've had some stress the past few weeks. DH had surgery on his ear (revison of mastoidectomy) and it caused a lot of personal issues to flare. In law stuff mostly, but now that we have that behind us, we're doing better. My hormones were NOT helping though. I was a rotten wife to my sick husband.
Me, I am happily pregnant. Somedays I still forget I'm pregnant, even though the basketball is getting more and more pronounced. Dad asked me this weekend if I was wearing maternity-I had a HUGE tent type shirt on too. I was laughign while I said, yeah, nothing else fits. i'm thinking his church friends were asking and I haven't seen him in about 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks, my stomach has really popped. It's getting hard to hold my boys on my lap anymore. ;(
tandt I hope today/tonight went as well as it could for you.
Overall I'm feeling pretty good. I'm getting SUPER run down with school though. It stinks, but I'm going to push through it. It also doesn't help that my one class I get very passionate about and my blood pressure (I'm sure) gets elevated. Good thing I'm normally on the low end of normal. :)
QOTD - Would anyone like to do a virtual shower? Basically, if anyone is interested, we "secretly" draw names (the mods will do this) and send mailing and registry information to the person who drew your name. We would limit the gift to say $10 (can be determined) and everyone would open their gift on the same day/same time.
I realize some people are ROs, but it can be nice to get a nice special keepsake or something new for subsequent children.
We can wait until everyone has their big u/s if they are finding out the sex.
Any initial interest?
So, my 5-yr-old DD asked me THE question last night... "How did the baby get there?" :eek: So far, I just told her "Daddy put it there" but I know that is not sufficient. Any ideas on how I should answer this? My mother was cracking up.
tandt- I hope you made it through ok. Those DD anniversaries do suck. Mine was Feb 4 and I still think about how old she/he/they would be right now.
sunshine- yuck on the sciatic pain (and the crayon, lol). My DD is 3 and still frickin' puts EVERYTHING in her mouth, drives me batty.
chimichanga- the virtual shower sounds like fun
DH says I have really popped "overnight".:rolleyes:
I'd put it to her and say, "How do you think the baby got there?" IMO 5 might be a bit young for the whole truth about the birds and the bees. So, see what she's thinking and maybe adjust it slightly as appropriate.
Poodlelover- My 4.5 year old is asking too. We just said that a lot of love and God put the baby there. He's happy with that. Now, the "How does it get out" question. Oy Vey!
Thanks, Lady, hmmm I do like that answer... I can tell them "God put him/her there because he knew that you wanted a baby brother/sister". Awesome!
LOL, I didn't even think about her asking "how does it come out?" Ah, thanks for the heads up. I think I'll just tell her that when it's time I push him/her out.
Haha, Chimi, now I'm dying to ask her how she thinks the baby got there just to see what she comes up with.
Vent- Some a$$hat swiped my GS cookies off my desk, I still had 1/2 box left. WTF does that? :mad:
I know this is lame but I'm exhausted and too tired to do shout-out's today, I have been reading along and thinking of you all.
School is insane and I feel like I'm always one step behind. I have so many shooting assignments that require creativity that I feel like every. single. creative bone in my body is ready to break into a million pieces... not to mention all the big assignments coming that I haven't even thought about yet or the big exam scheduled for next monday after spring break. :mad:
I'm headed to the Dells on Friday with some girls and can't wait to float in the lazy river for a day or two at the Kalihari... that should put some pep back in my step. Then having a whole week off of school is such a relief.
The little guy I nanny for is crazy about the movie Cars all of the sudden and we have watched it everyday this week. And everytime the end comes and little Lighting McQueen pushes that older car across the finish line I am a blubbering idiot. Gotta love these pregnancy hormones!:o
Lots more to update but I have to hit the hay...
Yes - I agree. My DD is into Cars (and Dora) and I get sappy all the darn time.
Poodle - I saw your post in the vent thread. What an ass clown that person is. If you know who it is, I'd confront them. If not, put a note up about how it's not nice to steal GS cookies that cost $X from a pregnant woman and you'd appreciate the cookies back (preferably a whole new box for your pain and suffering).
I had premonitions that someone might swipe my dinner tonight in class (thinking of your post) and I was totally prepared with a "get ready to watch the preggo kick someone's ass" type remark. Luckily, no one touched it. ;)
Hello everyone-- doesn't seem like we're doing too much lately, or at least I'm not.
Just this darn job of mine is taking away my mssg board posting! ;)
I love that your DC are asking questions about the baby-- that's hilarious. I can't wait for the one day that our DC ask those (although the plan is that it's NOT going to be from another pg of ours).
Meant to tell everyone that I cleaned up at the consignment sale last weekend-- tons of receiving blankets, onesies, a swaddle blanket, sleep sacs, a few neutral outfits, a Beatrix Potter book and even 'The Happiest Baby on the Block' DVD-- all of this and more for like $50. Over the next month, there are like 3 more here in Atlanta, so I'd like to try and go to these too. A lot of these items were still in original packing too and all were in excellent shape (I was worried the items would be totally junky). The only things that kinda freaked me out were the used bottles, used breast pumps, used Boppys, etc. I don't know why, but I think those things should be new-- I'm just wierd like that!
chimi, the virtual shower sounds cute-- count me in if we do it.
tandt - don't forget you'll be getting showers too! :D I'm sure you're going to get a ton, and since you're having twins you'll get twice as much stuff. I agree with you on certain items almost needing to be new. I'd never buy someone elses breast pump. I do plan to reuse mine from DD, but that's a different story.
I called the doctor today because I hadn't heard from my penta screen. I didn't know how long it took for results; and that's the reason I called. Not that I was worried, but more of "when should I expect results." The nurse (I love both of my OBs nurses) said it generally takes about a week but she had the results and they were fine. I thanked her and said I didn't know when to expect them so I thought I'd call. She understood. I have made it very plain to my OB that I'm going to basically be a first time mom again on things because of the past. They understand it and work with me :)
I am getting so antsy to have the big ultrasound. I can't believe I opted to do it in freaking April. Argh. :rolleyes: Me and my commitment to my work and not taking time off before a meeting.
Other than that, I'm feeling the baby move, but no kicks yet. Or, let's put it this way; no kicks that feel like the kicks I got with DD yet.
IRT to my cookies, yeah and the thing is if you really know me you would know that if you just ask me for something I will gladly share with you, you don't have to steal stuff from me.
chimichanga- So glad your penta screen came out good. I'm supposed to get my blood drawn this week if I'm going to do it, I guess I should go on my lunch break today, ick. I'm still feeling a lot of flutters as well but no actual kicking.
Awesome finds, tandt. I wouldn't use used bottles either. Depending on the breast pump you can buy replacement parts. I guess you could always buy a cover for the boppy but then again they're pretty inexpensive so why not just buy new? I have to buy all new bottles since mine are all pre-paba-free. I threw all mine away in anticipation of buying new paba-free ones.
Has anyone heard from adamseve? I hope she's ok.
So what are you feeling, if not kicks? I don't know if I'm feeling anything, or maybe I am and am dismissing it as gas, normal pains, etc. I know it's early as a first-timer to feel something, but I'm getting antsy to feel these little ones!
And you're right about the showers-- I'm hoping that things I get in dups with the consignment items I can take back to the store and get things I didn't get. Plus, I know this sounds wierd, but I hope my buying some of these things are helping put some dollars into the pockets of families that may be struggling financially and I'm not buying new stuff just for the sake of it. And no, I'm not a tree-hugger! :)
I'm feeling movement; like the baby is turning. If you've ever seen a dog "re-adjust" it is almost like that is going on in your tummy. Not a kick perse, but movement. Or, when you see a lady late in pregnancy and the baby moves it looks like a crazy alien in there. I'm feeling that, but obviously it isn't showing yet.
I am feeling some definite kick-like "pains" in my lower abdomen. Not cramping or anything I'm concerned about, but definitely lighter than the KICKS I got from DD.
One thing I wish I did more of at my showers -- attach the gift receipt to the EXACT item! Some stores get really pissy about things like that - even though they were obviously purchased at the store and you have a gift receipt just not the right one. Every time DD gets a new outfit with a gift receipt, I clothespin the receipt to the shoulder area. If she wears it, great. If we can't get her in it before the end of the season/she changes sizes then I have the correct receipt so I can return.
A bit peeved....
So I had the my 18 week appt today with the OB. After waiting AN HOUR after my appt time, the doc came in, listened to both h/bs for like 3 seconds or so on the doppler, answered a few questions and I was out.
No u/s or anything. But, I am having an u/s next Friday, so I'm okay with that.
Again, totally could have called in this appt too. But, he said both h/bs sound good, so I'll be happy with that!
Yay Yoga! Add us to the list because we're having a girl as well!
I'm so thrilled... I had an idea, but it's soooo cool to know for sure and when the u/s tech started talking in terms of "her organs look good..." I :D:D:D! I would have loved another boy as well, but it's so cool that I get to get pink things at least once! :)
As for the rest of the u/s, everything else looks really good. We got a close up of the foot (5 toes) and the arms/profile... so adorable! I do have to go back in 2 weeks for a follow up b/c she couldn't see the heart's septum as well as she would have liked, though she did say what she saw looked normal. I told her that she would probably never break a woman's heart telling her she has to have another u/s! I'll ask to double-check the gender again, but it was pretty clear (from what I could tell thru the streaming tears!). DH and I stopped on the way home at Children's Place and Carters to get some "pink stuff"!
So I guess we can update the front page with GIRL!
Congratulations, Jen309!!!!
Maybe this means I'll get my boy.;)
berber- I would love to friend you (or anyone here) but I can't access LJ at work anymore.:( I haven't posted to LJ in several months.
My mom seems to think I'm carrying differently this time. Ya'll might think I'm crazy but my mom seriously has this gift of knowing the sex of all her children and grandchildren before they're born. She claims it comes to her in a dream every time and then she writes it down.
Ugh, speaking of showing... maybe it's just pregnancy hormones but people are really starting to hurt my feelings. I'm already hearing how huge I am and the annoying typical comments, "are you sure it's not twins?" "I think you're further along than you think". IDK, maybe I'm being oversensitive.
yoganut
Jen - YEAH!! I feel like we are living in a parallel universe...and I can completely relate to everything you posted. I would have been so happy with another boy...but it is the coolest thing to know I will get to experience raising a girl (especially since I am so close to my own mom, and all the ladies in my family have at least one girl). I also have to go back for follow up u/s in a few weeks for a frontal view of the spine - she was being a stinker and wouldn't position correctly - and another view of the heart when it is a little more developed.
Again, I am not too disappointed about having to go back :D
My really good friend dropped off a little gift last night - babylegs in pink, a pink headband and booties. She has 2 little girls and said she wanted to help start to infuse our HH with pink. So sweet. My mom is in town for the week while DH is at a boys weekend, so I am sure we will go shopping at some point. I am excited to start thinking about the nursery too! (DH instructed me to restrain myself though ;) )
Thanks again for all the congrats!
Poodlelover I know it's hard, but try not to let the comments get to you. People are so dumb when it comes to talking about OPP (other people's pregnancy! Haa haa! Sorry - I'm giddy today). It's true though. With my second, on my last day of work (4 days before I was due and delivered) at the end of the day my patient asked when I was due and how many were in there. I told him (just one) and his eyes got huge and he said "wow, you'd think there were four in there!" I was totally hurt, b/c I was heavy to begin with, so I know I looked like a house, but geez, show some sensitivity, huh?
Yoga I TOTALLY know. My BFF (told her this morning) is soooo excited! She just kept singing "we're going shopping for girl clothes". Whenever I'd complain about anything she'd say yup, that's my neice in there! (before we knew) I'm soooo anxious to get started on the nursery, but I have to restrain myself too. I don't want to get too nuts b/c this will be our last one. But some cute girl stuff is definately in order! :D
Awww, lots of pink around here!
poodle, people are crazy. I'm actually getting the opposite too-- when I tell people (last night in fact) that I'm over 18 weeks with twins, folks say that I'm way too small and should ask my doc about it. :rolleyes:
To me, I'm fairly thin (more towards average since I'm tall) so this belly looks HUGE to me!
Oh, and your girls are SO precious! Their smiles are so beautiful and I loved how they're holding up their shirts for belly shots too! I told DH that we should do belly shots of him since he's packed on a couple of pounds since I've been eating again! :D Maybe I can talk him into one or two-- just out of fun for the baby books.
This pregnancy has been going well. I almost forget I am pregnant. Baby moves and kicks several times a day which is super exciting! Even DH has felt baby a couple of times now!
My DH goes out of Country next week, and I am a little worried. I haven;t been away from him (either has our DD) for that long. I hope it goes quickly. DD is being especially Daddy Sucky...I think it has to do with my growing belly. She used to cuddle with her back to my belly, and she will do it for a minute and then want to cuddle with Daddy :(
My ultrasound isn't even scheduled yet and I wanna know there is a baby in there. lady I had one of those things for #1... MIL got the big pack with the machine, tapes to play to baby, etc. Anyway, I LOATHED that thing. It took forever until we could hear anything somewhat regulary and one night toward the end, DH and I were listening and couldn't hear anything and then I couldn't remember the last time I felt him move and we started to panic. I poked my belly, drank juice, everything I could think of and nothing. We called the hospital and they said to come in and we were all packed up to go (the whole ordeal was about an hour-hour and a half) and as we were walking out the door, I felt a kick.
I was so mad at that thing! I was planning on trying to garage sale it, but I tossed it b/c I didn't want anyone else who bought it to go through the same thing. It's so completely unlike me to toss anything too!
I hope it doesn't disappoint you too much and you have much better luck with it than I did... if it were my money to spend, I'd have rented a dopplar instead. FWIW too, my placenta was in front for that pregnancy, which probably made it extra-hard for us.
lady1297
03-15-2009, 06:15 PM
Jen- that's kinda what I thought. But I was just jumping inside to feel/hear SOMETHING! Sigh. Oh well, only $20. ;) How do you even rent a doppler?
yoganut
03-16-2009, 09:32 AM
lady - I rented dopplers my last 2 pg, and it ended up being pretty expensive ($30 a month). I think they have also cracked down on these rental companies, and you have to get a letter signed by your doctor authorizing the medical need. This time, I didn't want to spend a ton of money nor deal with getting a letter signed - so I bought one via ebay.
The type I bought isn't the same as what your ob uses, but it works fine. I was able to find a hb at 12 weeks, and it is even easier now that the baby is bigger.
Here is a link to the same kind of 'pocket doppler' I bought - and it is only $49.
lady I realize my last post might have sounded a little alarmist... I guess what the moral of the story is if you don't hear anything even if you have before with that thing, don't freak out b/c it's not a wonder of medical technology. Though, for $20, if you do hear it a few times, then it may be worth it, right?
sunshine, I hope you're feeling more positive from your due date. Mine was last Monday and I handled it a lot better than I anticipated. Honestly, I think being pg again really helped-- I don't want to think about how I'd feel if that wasn't the case. ((hugs))
lady, I don't know personally about that monitor, but like yoga I bought one off Ebay for $100. I've had good success with it and plan to try and sell it for half the price or so once I start feeling the babies move/kick/etc (although I may end up keeping it even 'til birth!).
***
Not too much new around here-- we have another peri appt on Friday, so I hope to see the babies then. My ILs will be here from Wed until probably Sat since FIL has a doc appt, so I'm going to invite them to the doc appt with me.
Sometimes I think I feel movement, but I just don't know if that's what it actually is. It's certainly not kicks or such, but rather odd feelings.
I'm still on a quest to find a diaper bag that I like, is big enough for two babies and IS NOT $500. I fell in love with a Kate Spade and it was $495-- uhh, no thanks. I'm thinking of the Storksak Gigi or SkipHop City Chic at this time.
And, I'm on a quest to find a quilted style, plain white crib skirt-- but obviously I'm the only one in the world since I can't find one anywhere. I may just have to make it myself.
All these decisions, thinks to think about, things that scare me to death are getting a bit overwhelming at times! :)
yoganut
03-16-2009, 03:19 PM
tandt - How cool that your family will get to see the babies with you at the peri. I am not feeling 'kicks' yet either. What I feel more is when she (I love saying that :D) pushes hard on my uterus in different spots, and it feels like my insides are shifting around. Such an odd feeling, but I totally remember it from my other pg.
It sounds like you really have stuff organized for your nursery. For a white quilted bed skirt, have you checked pbk, restoration hardware kids or sernea & lily? They are all a little pricey, but might have what you are looking for.
Reading your post made me think about the diaper bag dilmea again. See, I HATE carying around a diaper bag. I know they are necessary, but I love not having to haul a lot of stuff around with me, now that my boys are bigger. DH wants a messenger-type bag, though I don't want a really big one. Maybe I will look into the Skip Hop bags.
I did indulge my girly shopping desires a little this weekend. I ordered the bedding set from Babysupermall.com. I had a PBK set for the boys, which I loved and used it for both of them. This time, I was not that excited about any of the girl sets at PBK, and the sets that I love (at Serena & Lily), I couldn't justify in terms of cost. So, this is what I ended up ordering. I really like it when you look at the individual pieces up close...I don't like the shocking pink walls in the picture though.
http://www.babysupermall.com/main/products/kli/kli5204beds-big.jpg
I don't need to get much more for the nursery. We obviously have the crib, and will move the dresser I used for the boys back into the nursery. They share a room (bunkbeds) and I am going to get them a new and bigger dresser. I will probably try and find an antique/shabby chic type accent chair for her room (I have an image in my head), but don't want to spend much. I have my glider (which looks like a big armchair) in my bedroom...which is where it will stay. I want to be able to watch TV while my bottom is glued to that thing. :rolleyes:
I also ordered a few outfits (with matching sun hats! so cute!) from Gymboree this weekend, using a 20% off coupon from Parenting magazine - and earned $50 in gymbucks in the process. So, now I will have an excuse to buy more girly stuff when it is gymbuck redemption time.
yoga, the bedding is SO adorable! How fun to get to focus on the colors and such now.
RE: crib skirts. Yes, both PBK and RHB&K have white, but they all have some sort of color on them (even if it's just an accent color) and I am looking for a solid white. I was in PBK yesterday and looked on the RHB&K site with no success. I will, though, check out S&L-- I hadn't even thought about them-- thanks for the suggestion!
RE: diaper bags. I feel the same-- I want one that looks like a normal bag, not a baby bag, but I don't think I can get away with a normal bag and carrying things for two little ones. I got DH a SkipHop in a store here that was on clearance (it's very masculine looking) and the others just look like regular bags.
I want to be able to watch TV while my bottom is glued to that thing.
I'm trying to convince DH that we should put a smaller flat panel TV on the wall in the nursery, but not with a lot of success! He can't wrap his mind around the babies have a tv, but I think he'll soon change his mind when he's just sitting there rocking. :D
ETA: No luck with S&L-- no plain white. Thanks for the suggestion though!
tandt - I did a google search and found simple white box pleat crib skirts on this site (http://www.thefindgreen.com/furniture/detail-organic-baby-bedding-organic-cotton-crib-skirt#page=3) (Check out page 1)
Not white quilted, but still white and simple? I hope you find what you are looking for.
Thanks for the compliment on the bedding. I think I will really like it when I see it away from the bright pink walls in the picture.
We are also on the "great diaper bag hunt of 2009."
We did get a diaper bag set with DD. It's a shoulder bag and has two parts, a larger outside bag that does not close, and a smaller patterned bag that zippers.
I loved using them when DD was little. I could carry nothing but toys in the one and she had easy access to them and then carry just the diaper stuff in the other (and food as applicable).
But, now that DH is the primary caregiver, he does not really want to use the bag. I can't say I blame him. While the color is blue, it's definitely a "woman" bag. Plus, with two kiddos he's worried that fumbling with a shoulder bag would be more hassle than it's worth.
We're now looking for a backpack style bag for him. I know there's plenty to choose from, but now it's a question of finding one that HE likes - and he's super picky.
yoga, you're so sweet to search for me. I'm actually looking for more of a quilted look like here (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/nb51/index.cfm?pkey=cbedding%2Dbaby%2Dwhite%2Dsale%7Cb) at PBK, but without the colored accent.
You really can't tell too much on the pic, but I really love the texture in the store, but don't want any color on that piece.
I know I'm totally being picky, which is why I think I'll just have to sew it myself and pick the fabric I want.
chimi, I got this bag from Skip Hop (http://www.skiphop.com/product/20000.html)for DH, but in navy. It was half price at a baby store here, so I grabbed it and he gave his 'approval'-- even though I still believe he thinks any diaper bag is emasculating. And, they have a Duo Double that's bigger in size. The texture is VERY neutral and there are plenty of masculine styled colors from SH.
thanks tandt. I don't know if that particular style would work, but I did find a backpack one on there that I sent to DH. I guess diaper bags in general are "emasculating" but then again, would he rather shove everything (including dirties if there's no place to throw them) into his pants pockets? That would just be silly ;)
TM- We are definitely NOT finding out the sex, so you can put me under "Surprise". :)
Absolutely adorable bedding, yoganut! I agree that it'll def look better w/o that bright wall. I love the shabby chick look as well.
Are ya'll thinking about names yet for your girls, yoganut and Jen309?
tandt- Awww, so nice that your IL's will be able to see the babies.
We're desperately searching for a new (i.e. bigger) house. Our current house only has 2 bedrooms and it is sooooo cramped as it is, I can't imagine trying to fit 3 kids in one room.
I have a Kecci backpack diaper bag that I like a lot.
tandt - earlier you asked me when I had felt DD kick... march 14, 2006. :) I kept a journal for my pregnancy and her birth and that was my first entry and it started with "I felt you kick today." She was bork 8/4/06 so it's right around the same timeframe in terms of how far along I was.
QOTD - What are you/Will you do to remember this pregnancy?
This pregnancy I am taking weekly belly shots of myself (and looking back I'm already noticing I'm getting bigger) and I will be starting a journal of milestones during this pregnancy and the birth.
I'd also like to have professional shots taken near the end. We didn't do this with DD, and that's why I really want to do it this time around. I know many second children who lament about not getting as much attention as their older sibling. While DH and I took some artsy pictures with DD, they were by no means professional. I'd like to "bump it up" for this baby. :)
I still *think* that I feel the babies at times-- mostly at night when I'm trying to sleep.
QOTD - What are you/will you do to remember this pregnancy?
We too have been taking weekly belly shots (both covered and of bare belly). Since I've been talking to you ladies here, I'll be pulling together my posts for a journal that I plan to put in the books for each baby.
For pro belly shots, I know they can be nice, but they're just not my style so we won't be doing those.
One thing I intend to do is to write a letter to the babies soon before I think they'll arrive. I'd like them to know exactly what emotions we're feeling and how special they are to us-- a true blessing. I would hope they would re-read this throughout their lives, even when I may be yelling at them for coming home late from a date!
poodle, woohoo for another surprise around here! I actually thought waiting would be a lot harder and I'd HAVE to know, but I'm pretty at peace with not knowing.
poodlelover - Good luck with the house search! I hope it is not stressful for you (I personally don't like moving).
chimi - I am also the 'primary breadwinner' and DH will be taking care of the kids most of the time. He works part-time from home doing consulting for his company in CA. My oldest will be in 1st grade, my middle son will go to pre-school 4 days a week, and the baby will be with DH or our neighbor who has approached us about being a part-time nanny (which we are thrilled about). That at least will offer flexibility in care, while a daycare would only allow us to enroll full-time, which we don't need. So, like you, I need to go with DH's preferences on the diaper bag :rolleyes: I was looking at that skip hop link, and saw a camo design that DH might like...I think I will get it for him for Father's Day this year ;)
QOTD - I have to admit that documenting, scrapbooking and picture-taking are not my strengths. I have a big box in my closet with all of my kids momentos (hospital bracelets, u/s pictures, first artwork, significant school papers, etc.). Someday I plan to organize it...but for now I am just collecting. I probably won't do much more than take belly pictures for this one. I have cool professional belly shots from DS1, and wonderful professional newborn/family shots with DS2. My brother is a professional photographer, and he is going to come visit and get some newborn/family shots when this baby is a few weeks old.
QOTD- I'm definitely going to do professional pics this time. I worked very little when I was pregnant with DD1 and DD2 so money was very tight. This is my last pregnancy and I really want pics of my girls and this baby. Like I did with my other pregnancies I will continue to take belly shots at home every 2 weeks. I'm using Power Point to capture my progression, it's pretty cool. Like my other 2, this baby will get his/her own baby book.
Another QOTD- Is this your last pregnancy? 3 is definitely it for us.
QOTD - Yes, I am D-O-N-E! This uterus is hanging the no vacancy once DD is out.
Are you guys going to do permanent birth control? I want to on one side, but my friend who is an ob says she always counsels parents - "what would you want to do if, under tragic circumstances, you lost your children." Kind of makes you think. I really think I want to do the Mirena IUD, no matter what. My friends who use it says they have barely any period at all after using it. Sounds great to me!
Jen309
03-18-2009, 10:14 AM
A friend of mine had the ablation procedure (I think that's what it's called) where they send a current thru the uterine lining and it makes it impossible for a fertilized egg to implant. She still has periods, but she said she only bleeds for one or two days tops.
We were thinking of vasectomy for DH (and he's cool with it). Although I think now I might do birth control for a while until we're 100% sure. I don't plan on doing anything to myself though. I don't think I would ever try to 'replace' my kids, should anything tragic ever happen, but I want the option to be there for surrogacy or something... Not that I plan on actually doing that, I just like to keep options open. Is that weird? :o
Are we done? - it's hard to say. I only wanted two kids; DH wanted three (I come from a family of 2 kids; DH had 3 kids). But, I'm not 100% sure that I'm done. But, I don't know if I could handle losses. I know that it happens, but still - those are rough. We'll leave the door open though. As for protection, we use condoms. I don't want to go back on the pill if at all possible and if we do decide to have more, I don't want any other contraceptive.
poodlelover - You asked about names. We have a short list, but we both keep gravitating towards Norah. I like Norah Grace...but my mom is pushing for Leigh as middle name. Leigh is my grandmother's middle name, and she is the matriarch of the family. Kind of a family thing. Hey, knowing us, we will probably change our minds a few times before the baby comes.
Other first names we are considering: Natalie, Tatum, Lucy (DH really likes this one).
Anyone else have a short list of names?
Chimichanga
03-18-2009, 11:29 AM
Names - DH and I were sorta talking about this last night. I came up with a few.
boys - Aaron, Cole, Connor, Rhys (look familiar yoga? ;) ). DH wasn't initially sure of Rhys with that spelling, but he doesn't hate it.
girls - Cameron is still in consideration but we can't agree on a spelling. We also thought Erin would be nice. Beyond that, we had such a short list for DD (only 3 names) and Cameron was on there.
Yoga - looking at your boys names, do you think an "R" name would be good for your DD? Not trying to be pushy or anything, but just a question.
yoganut
03-18-2009, 12:11 PM
chimi - On the Rhys spelling, it wasn't my first choice...DH really wanted to spell it that way, and while I like it becasue it is unique, it is constantly mispronounced. Whenever I go to a doctor's appointment with him, they say "Rice." I obviously love the name "Rhys" no matter what though.
So the R thing is funny. We never meant to name both boys with R names...it just so happened that the 2 names we loved started with R. We have tossed around the idea of using another R (and I liked Reid if it was another boy). I might research R girl names and see if anything jumps out at me...so far, no.
I love Norah! I have a great nephew named Cole.
Is Rhys pronounced Reece?
I'm liking Clara or Megan for a girl, Caleb for a boy. I really need to expand on my choices. I wanted DD1 to be Jillian but DH nixed it b/c it's the name of his coworker's daughter that he doesn't like. DH never comes up with anything but he sure likes to veto.:rolleyes:
If it was up to DH he's probably try to sneak in another child but I'm saying no way. This pregnancy over 35 stuff is too stressful and 3 is hardwork enough. DH thinks that adding more children isn't a big deal since the older ones will help take care of the younger ones. His BFF's bro has 6 kids and he thinks it looks "easy". DH will say stuff like " I wouldn't mind taking the 2 oldest to Discovery Cove, but I think we should leave the 2 youngest behind". Haha, real funny dude.
I'm honestly not sure what we're going to do BC wise. I had the Mirena before and liked it once I got past the first 3 months of constant spotting. DH would get a vasectomy and that seems like the best option BUT I HATE my cycles and need to have the endo controlled. I can't deal long-term with the debilitating cramps and mood swings.
yoganut
03-18-2009, 02:05 PM
Is Rhys pronounced Reece?
Yes, exactly!
6 kids - I can't imagine! I know that 3 is my limit. So, with Mirena, you have spotting for 3 months!! :eek::eek: Is that normal? What a PITA. Once you got over that, did you cycle go away, or was it light? Sorry for the interrogation...just wondering.
Chimichanga
03-18-2009, 02:46 PM
yoga - well, DD's name is Reagan (pronounced like the president) and we, of course, love that name. :D
I wasn't necessarily thinking of doing another R name, but like I said - DH doesn't hate the idea of Rhys but it's not his favorite. We both love Aaron for a boy. Plus, the kid is going to have a long name (if it is a boy) as he'd have two middle names after my grandpa and dad.
So, with Mirena, you have spotting for 3 months!!
Yep. It's very common. There's an IUD thread in Emotional Support - Sex and Intimacy. It's worth it though after the initial 3 months. AF was soooooo much less painful, shorter and infrequent (like about every 12 weeks? IIRC). I was getting a ton of migraines and so I had it removed but I still had a lot of migraines after it was removed so I guess the IUD had nothing to do with it.:confused:
Quiet in here today...
Yoga I love your names!! Especially Norah Grace. I considered Norah last time around but we wound up with a Nolan. I really wanted Noelle, esp. since conception was a couple days after Christmas :o I like Natalie too, but we used that up on our cat (our first pet together).
Chimi Erin is on our list too. I like Aaron for a boy, but DH has nixed that twice now. Our last name is an E name though, so I don't know if we'll wind up with that.
Other names I like: Megan, Tess, Ellen... hard to come up with these! We are going to have such a time!
yoganut
03-20-2009, 01:08 PM
Jen - I really like Tess...it sound spunky for some reason :) I also really like Noelle. What is your youngest DS' name? So you have a Nolan (which is another name I love)...Noelle does sound a little close.
I think we keep leaning towards Norah Grace...I love Natalie, but I can't seem to convince DH...he still loves Lucy, and I won't budge on it...so the name where we meet is Norah. The funny thing is, as much as I say we should wait until we meet this baby, we ALWAYS end up naming them in advance. The whole family is referring to the baby by name months before it is born. I think DH and I struggle so much to find a list of names we agree on, and really like, that once we find one we breathe a sigh of relief, go with it and move forward.
Had my 20 week appointment today. All was well. This was with the retired partner who fills in while the reg is on vacation and every other weekend. Okay guy, bit better bed side manner (let me listen for quite awhile to the heartbeat), but overall, I like my other OB, just more familiar with him I guess. So baby measured right one (fundal height) and the heart rate jumped from 130 to 150 while we listened. Everything else was fine. I did bring up my anxiety and he said it could be hormonal, and there were things that could be prescribed, but he wasn't a shrink, so he wanted me to wait it out a few more weeks. Is he nuts?! I think so! So I'm going to suck it up and call a shrink. :( Not happy about that at all. Makes me not want to even do it if I have to go through all that. Oh well.
Half way done! YEA!!!
Next appointment: April 15th.
Ultrasound: Thursday March 26, 2:30 pm. YIPPEE!!
I can't wait. Not sure if we're going to find out the gender, hubby wants to, I'm not so sure. I think we might.
QOTD: Are we done? No idea. I think on one hand I'm done, but then I can't imagine not having a little one running around everywhere. So guess we are undecided
QOTD: Names? Mary Agnes (nickname Meg) for a girl; no idea for a boy.
QOTD: special things this pregnancy? I think I'm going to get a pic or two of me and my boys with my pregnant belly. Maybe one where they are kissing my stomach or something like that. DS will have his 5year pics around the time I'm due, so I'll do it then, just at Sears or something. I think it will be nice. I never did it with the other kids, so it will be special. I do think I'm going to do weekly shots from here out.
Things are rolling along here. Not too much to report which I guess is good.
Oh, well there is one things... DH sorta belongs to a local dads group. They've been around awhile; very low key group. About a year or so ago the local paper wrote an article on the group that got picked up nationally (I think). TLC caught wind of it and is now starting to film a series around the group.
DH hasn't gone to anythings with the production crew there, but he said it doesn't seem too "real." I guess they requested certain dads at the monthly poker night and kept telling certain dads what to do next. Ehh - we'll see if anything comes of this. I think it's kind of neat that they are focusing on SAHDs and hopefully it will become more common.
poodle, thanks for offering to be a TM. I would offer, but I'm afraid that my company is about to 'outlaw' mssg board access. Most are restricted from accessing, but this one seems to be okay.
Not much happening around here-- just plugging along. I believe I'm feeling what I'll define as movement more often now. I'm CERTAINLY getting bigger by the day it seems.
I told DH that we've seriously got to start actually doing stuff around the house versus just talking about it-- moving our office things out of the nursery room, finalizing decisions on paint, etc and making a final determination if we're going to redo our hall bath (which would be the babies' bathroom too). We've been putting off these decisions for so long that I'm terrified we'll get caught off guard at the very end-- when I'm huge and not feeling very good.
tandt - kick :D j/k What I found worked/works for me is to set small and realistic goals for myself. DH was never really that into things like that (although he'd help with the chemical stuff). Example: one weekend I decided I wanted to get the side flowerbed weeded. It' maybe 20 feet long by 4 feet wide. Shouldn't have taken that long, but that was my whooooole weekend goal. I did get it done with time to spare and started another bed. The next weekend I wanted to finish the bed I started the previous weekend (about 10 feet by 5 feet). I barely did that and was EXHAUSTED. But, my goal was just that flower bed so I was "accomplished." Can be the same thing with you. One weekend your goal will be to make the curtains. If you do more; great. If not - no big deal since your goal was ONLY to make the curtains. Next weekend the goal is to look over things and decide if you'll re-do the bathroom. Things like that - just get one "to do" checked off your list and eventually it will all get done. :)
Today was a day of extremes for me. My friend's wake was today; the one who passed away from breast cancer at age 29. Definite extreme sorrow/grief. It was terribly sad and I was an emotional wreck. But at the same time, my heart was filled with extreme happiness every time I would see DD and she'd flash me a coy little smile. Definitely an emotional roller coaster for me.
chimi Sorry to hear about your friend. Isn't it amazing what our kids can do to make us feel better though?
Nesting Becuase, you know, that's what it is :p I also have a ton to do, but I'm dragging my feet. Now that I know this is a girl, I won't need most of the boy clothes I have, so I need to go thru and decide what to keep and what will work as girl stuff (plain light blue, some browns, etc.) and get the rest ready for garage sales this summer. We also have to get new beds for the boys (we're getting bunks, but not going to bunk them til they need bedroom space when they're older) and transition them into the same room. When all that is done, I can concentrate on the nursery. Fortunately, we painted it a pretty yellow so we won't have to repaint!
It's crazy, becuase I'm only 20 wks, but I feel like I'm already running out of time. :rolleyes:
I'm so sorry about your friend, chimichanga. Cancer sucks. My BFF's mom has a very aggressive strain of BC as well. She was first dx'd in her 40's and miraculously beat it (prognosis was 40%) but it came back 8 yrs later in her leg. She's now in remission again but she's disabled from all the treatment she went through (the radiation did a lot of damage). They told her that she would never be cured since she has such an aggressive strain and all they're going to do is keep chasing it but she'll eventually succumb to it.:( My BFF and her mom are VERY close.
jen309- I'm sorry your little man is sick and can't come to the u/s with you.
Nesting- nah. With us trying to find a house it's pointless. The only thing I can do is pull out of the gender neutral newborn/0-3 mth stuff. I'm just going to reuse my tiddlywink stuff and save my money for Big Girl (Boy?) Rooms since they're in that a lot longer than the crib. My BFF has most of my big stuff like my swing, PNP and bassinet etc, but I'm hoping we'll have a new house before then so that I just have to transport it once.
When is everyone's big u/s? Mine won't be scheduled til my appt on Mon. My practice does them so late. I'll be almost 19wk at this appt and they'll schedule my u/s for my next appt which will be 23wk. I don't really care though since we're not finding out the sex.
Now that DH works third shift I have both dogs in bed with me. Our queen is definitely at capacity and I'm sure I'll be kicking at least one of the dogs off before the end of this. ;)
We had to kick our 4 year old out finally (yea!) so that I could add pillows to the bed. DH can handle me and the pillows and tolerates the 2 year old for now. But the 4 year old had to go! (He'll need therapy now, if he reads that! LOL!).
I have an appointment today and I'm kind of nervous and have no reason to be... but I still am. I'm interested to see how much weight I've gained so far too.
I have my 20 week ultrasound on Monday and boy is that exciting. I'm still hoping to hold off finding out the sex... DH has been trying to wear me down and he is hoping we find out on accident.:rolleyes:
Oh yeah, I forgot all about my u/s the other day. So pointless. The baby was still laying the wrong way so they still couldn't see what they needed to and I need to go back again in a couple weeks. :rolleyes: This sonographer had the opposite of a personality - I've never met anyone so dry EVER. She kept saying mean things to the baby like "come on, baby MOVE, or I'm never gonna see what I've got to see" With a tone, you know, :confused::mad: WTF? Not such a big deal to go back, but it's at the hospital (PITA parking) and not on the same schedule as my doc appts - it's far!! They want me to come back in 10 days, but I'm going to wait until the same day as my doc appt. in like 3 weeks.
Also, poor DS... I had to bring him with me to meet DH so he could take the boys... he kept falling asleep in the car and he'd wake up and say "hurts :(" every few minutes. Fortunately, where I meet DH is at their ped office (on the way to my Dr. and near where DH works) so we managed to get him in that afternoon. Double ear infections and bad chest congestion. He's on abx now, and doing much better though.
kicking out of the bed - well, it is kind of a sore subject around my house today. My DS2 has gotten in the habit of waking up at 4am and wanting us. A couple of times we let him in our bed, but between me, the body pillow I have to sleep with, DS and DH it is just too crowded IMO and I can't sleep. DS's have bunk beds with a twin on top and double on the bottom so one of us can get in bed with DS2 if the need arises. DH of course has been going lately, because my sleep is PRECIOUS and I would have to haul all of my pillows and stuff to be comfy. Well, last night DS2 comes in, and DH gets all pissy and says why don't I ever go in the other room. Ummm...because I happen to be the primary breadwinner with a high-pressure job and am growing a human?? Grrr. I just said no, I wasn't going, and laid there fuming. I am so angry with him today, and can't believe he even had the gall to ask. I feel like he has no idea how hard all of this can be...and how stinkin tired I am all the time. :mad:
Jen - So sorry about your little guy. He must feel horrible. Poor thing...I hope the meds help soon. That is a bit of a PITA to haul back and forth to the u/s clinic. I go back a week from tomorrow so they can get the other views they need. I hope this baby cooperates and they get them!
Berber - I hope your appointment went well...can't wait to hear. That is so exciting that you have your u/s on Monday! From what I have heard, if you don't want to know they tell you to look away at certain points so you don't see by 'accident.'
Appointments: u/s and ob appt 4/3
Question - Does anyone else feel fatigued all the time? I can't get over how tired I am...and don't remember feeling like this with my other pg's. Yuck.
Just got back from our ultrasound and this baby is DEFINITELY a BOY!!!
I am beside myself with excitement! This will mean a girl and a boy for my family, as this will be our last baby! And this will be my Dad's last grandchild and his FIRST grandson too!
I can't believe it!
His name will be Marcus :)
Sunshine~ Yippeeeee! I'm so excited for you, and I love the name Marcus.
My appointment went well for the most part. I've gained 5 pounds so far but I feel like I look a ton bigger than that. My arse alone looks huge.:rolleyes: The baby's heart beat was in the high 140's... so it keeps getting lower each month. Wonder if that means something?? I was a little annoyed that I had to wait forever inbetween my nurse visit and my doctor visit. I had enough time to read almost the entire US Weekly from cover to cover for goodness sakes! I was ticked because I was taking time out of a class where a huge assignment was due. Thank goodness I made it back in time to finish the assignment but I felt so rushed the whole day.
I'm so excited for Monday!:D
We had our ultrasound today. Little one wasn't shy about the goods at all. Within seconds the tech said, I know what it is, do you want to know? (She had little tack). So we found out we're having a BOY! Three boys for us. We're not telling the local population and family/friends. I just don't want to hear "So you gonna try for a girl?" or "Oh, another boy" with that attitude. I was shocked for a bit, though I think I really did know pretty well that it was a boy and I just don't want to do anything other than relish my beautiful child with chubby cheeks and a spunky personality already. Guess I'm one of the ones that gets to have mommy's boys! :)
Aww... CONGRATS Lady and Sunshine on your BOYS!
Sunshine: it's really awesome how you already have a name and everything! Your dad will be thrilled to have a grandson, I'm sure!
Lady: Three boys! I know so many people who are in the three boy boat and they all love it! You are going to have so much fun as they grow up!
Yoga That must be rough with your DS getting up... My 3yr old went thru a phase that lasted about 3 mos where he'd get up to potty and get cranky and want to sleep with us and would otherwise scream at the top of his lungs all thru the potty break and while I told him he couldn't stay in our room (not a huge deal to me, but it bugged DH, so that's the way it has to be). I am always the one that gets up with them, but I also SAH. It's frustrating though when I get up once or twice to help the boys at night and then I have to wake DH up at 5:30 and lay there semi-awake for a half hour til he drags his butt out of bed (it sucks, but after 6 years, it really is the only way... I can't have him fired!) then get up with the kids an hour later. So yeah, I'm feeling your pain being fatigued this time around! But, I'm not the one with the job, so that's what I do.
Lady - YEAH! Congrats on your beautiful spunky little guy :) I hope that people's comments don't take away an ounce of your joy. Going to our u/s I was really preparing myself for those types of comments and suggestions...and it really bothered me (though, I can let myself care too much sometimes). I was thinking of some really good comebacks too :rolleyes: You are so blessed to have 3 little guys, and I bet they are going to be awesome buddies. I also believe that the family composition we end up with is EXACTLY what we are supposed to have...and perfect. (But that is just me.)
I am so excited that we are starting to find out what people are having. It is so special!
Jen - I am glad I am not the only one who feels like a walking zombie...and believe me sister, I think your day is probably A LOT more draining than mine working in an office. I just have the pressure of STAYING employed and STAYING off bed rest...because I don't want to think about the financial pressure that would put on us.
Leads me to a QOTD - If you work out of the home, are you getting paid maternity leave? Mine is not great, but better than nothing. I get 8 weeks full pay (due to my tenure with the company, 9 years!) and then have saved another 4 weeks in vacation - so planning to be out 12 weeks total.
I love the belly progression poodlelover! Reminds me I need to take another picture.
QOTD- Sucky! I get 6 weeks ST disability pay if I have a vbac, 8 weeks C-section. STD is 60%? of my salary. I only have 1 week of vacation left. I'm not sure if our company is obligated to the FMLA act. I'm trying to schedule a meeting with the HR woman but she hasn't answered me yet. A fellow coworker told me that it was 6wk (vag) and 8wk (c-section) and that she had to have the Dr write a note giving her 8 weeks, but I don't think how I birth my baby should dictate how much time I get off.:mad:
DH is one of 3 boys and his mom wouldn't change that for the world. You get what you are meant to have. I'm already soooooo sick of people assuming we'll be devasted if we have another girl or that we are ONLY having another baby to try to get a boy. Whatever. This is another reason I'm glad we're not finding out, so that I don't have to listen to all the stupid comments.
Poodlelover - how many employees do you have at your company? While companies with fewer than I believe 20 don't have to follow it, many do because it's good business practice.
Congrats Lady and Sunshine on your BOYS!!! :D
Sunshine Ugh! I am soooo jealous of Canada's (very progressive compared to the US) maternity benefits!
Obviously, I don't have any benefits now, but I worked thru the other two and got NADA. Nope, not a fun acronym, just nothing. I took whatever PTO off I had and that was it. I worked in a *very* small (3-4 people) office, so FMLA didn't apply. The upside was that my boss was progressive and she decided before I got pg with the first one that the baby could come to work with me and her husband (the 'office manager' :rolleyes:) would watch the baby while I was in with patients. It worked out well - we were good friends too and he's the Mr. Rogers type all the way. I LOVED being able to work and then play with Matt when I was done! I kept him with me for 4 mos and then DH was off for summer (teacher) and then took him back until Nolan was born! That was crazy, hauling in a toddler whilst 9 mos pg :p So, I guess you can say that I didn't get any real maternity benefits, but I got free daycare and nursing on demand availablilty...
Last night I had a dream and I'll take it as a sign.
I don't remember what lead up to this point, but I was going to the bathroom (in my dream) but my aunt got in before me. So I went back to bed to lie down. I saw that my grandma and grandpa (deceased) were already in there. My grandpa got up and we went out to a garden and were talking about I can't remember what.
If the Bean is a boy, he will have my grandpa's name as a middle name. My grandpa doesn't normally come to me in dreams - maybe 3 times since he passed in 1994. I'm going to take it as a sign.
That, and if my aunt hadn't gone to the bathroom before me, I probably would have woken up and gotten up to pee.
Thanks everyone for your sweet comments about the boys. As I was telling DH last night, I'm NOT disappointed that we're having another boy, it is what it is, as God gave us. It's just NOT how I pictured our family. But I have no reference for 3 of ANY one gender. It's always been evenly split or they stop at 2 of one gender. So it's kind of weird. I want to tell my mom, but she isn't interested in knowing just yet. I do fear that she's going to be disappointed, though, now that I think of it, she is the oldest of three girls then three boys, so it wouldn't be THAT foreign for all of one gender. And DH is three girls, then him, then his sister. So I suppose it is more common than I think! :)
I guess I just have to learn how to fish and play sports! LOL!
QOTD: I'm a SAHM, and I got lucky, my youngest finally, after 2 years and 1 month learned how to sleep through the night, so my sleep has been heavenly! I'm still tired all day, but at least I can't blame night time sleep!
Hi ladies-- sorry I've been MIA lately-- work has been kickin' my tail and honestly not a lot has been going on with our little beans!
CONGRATS to all of you who learned the sex of your baby-- that has to be exciting! I can't wait to see our final count of boys and girls!
RE: same sex as other children-- while we don't have older children now, I can understand what you ladies mean about folks saying you'll be upset if this pg isn't one sex or the other. When people hear that we're having twins, the first question asked is about finding out the sexes, which I say we're not and the next statement is usually, 'Hopefully you'll get a boy and a girl.'
***
I'm totally getting bigger by the day and am sure movement is certainly what I'm feeling. We were lying in bed last night, I felt bumps in a certain area and put DH's hand over it. He could feel it and teared up a little-- it was so sweet.
Other than that, again, not much happening. We're trying to clear out the office so start making it a nursery.
Hope everyone is feeling well and all our little beans are movin' and shakin'.
Yesterday I discussed some projects with DH that I want to do before the Bean arrives.
- I want to transition DD to her full/queen size mattress. She's in her toddler bed which is fine. But she likes to "flop" around on it (she knows not to jump, but she'll fall all over to be funny). Plus, she's going to be too big for that bed within no time. I'd rather do the transition now/before the baby so it's not too much disruption after the baby.
- I want to update the guest bathroom so it's more kid friendly. Right now it's just leftovers from our bathroom from our apartment before the house. We don't have a rug on the floor, just a towel we put down when DD gets a bath. I'd like to have it looking more functional than just a "forgotten" bathroom.
- Get the basement walls up. This is more dependent on my dad since he's doing most of the work for us. Right now we have the exterior drywall up and one "wall" roughed in. We need to put up the metal studs for my craft room and a wall around the sump pump. Then we need to drywall it. I'd be fine if that's as far as we can get before the baby. Ideally I'd love to finish it, but we'd need to do the electrical, heating, ceiling and flooring and I just don't think we'll have the time to do it.
Since my current craft room is going to be the baby room, we are on a bit more of a time deadline. Granted, the baby will sleep in our room for the first three months, but still. We'll need a place to put all his/her stuff.
- Gardening. This is more weather dependent, but I wanted to rip out a few things we have currently and replace them with lower maintenance shrubs. I love the look of pretty flowers, but I have so little time as it is to care for them. I'd like to rip out this pretty (but overgrown) rose bush and maybe put in an evergreen shrub or a lilac bush. I want to put some hearty green low shrubs around our mailbox since it looks like crap (direct sun and bad soil = no flowers).
DD liked to stand on the gate (I always yell at her for that, DH didn't) and now the screws have nearly pulled out of the wall. I've been telling him for 3 weeks to get anchors and fix it and it still hasn't been done.
Let me know how the deadlines go :)
Sounds like nesting is kicking in ;) I started the process of shampooing carpets this weekend. We are doing it ourselves with our Kirby, so that we can tackle the project a room at a time...I don't know how we could have someone come in and do it all at once (when we would all be out of the house) and then deal with them drying forever. At least this way they dry overnight, and we can tackle it one room at a time.
I need to start going through our old baby clothes and pull out anything gender neutral that I want to keep - and then donate the rest of the boys stuff. I have all the bedding and curtains now for baby girl, so DH needs to move the futon out of that room and into his office so we can start thinking about painting...which I would like to get done by the end of May.
I also need to order a new dresser for my boys, because their dresser will go in the baby's room.
Not too much stuff to tackle, but making it a priority and getting it done will be the issue.
This baby is so busy, she cracks me up. I can definitely feel her from the inside and out - and DH felt her from the outside this weekend, which was fun. I am looking forward to seeing her again on Friday, and am trying to get DH to come with me to the ob appointment in the afternoon - he hasn't met my new ob, and I really want him to.
I need to start going through our old baby clothes and pull out anything gender neutral that I want to keep
I tried to do the same thing this past weekend. Of course I have no where to actually put the stuff since we are at capacity until the boys' new furniture comes... But alas, I couldn't do it. I walked over to all my neatly sorted and labeled rubbermaid bins and couldn't even open one because I nearly started bawling. Knowing that this is our last baby, and soon all that stuff will be gone... ugh.. where's the teared-up smiley?
I have been the biggest emotional wreck the last couple weeks. DH and I got in an *argument* the other night at dinner; we had music playing and he decided to belt out one line in the song that says "and I'm gonna throw up!" while we're eating. I mean, come on!! So I gave him a nasty look and said "that's disgusting" and he said "well, I'm sorry you find me disgusting" so I said "no, that line is disgusting" (mental note to delete that song from my Zune). And then he didn't talk to me again for the rest of dinner :confused: So after dinner I said "well, I guess I'm going upstairs b/c you're obviously not going to talk to me" Then he accused me of not talking to him! So we had a discussion about expectations and other stuff broiling under the surface, but he just had this accusatory tone I couldn't put up with so I started bawling my eyes out becuase I just couldn't take him yelling at me any more - and he wasn't even yelling! Finally I think DH realized this is not the time to be insensitive around a pg woman!!!! So I guess my QOTD, especially for R/Os is have you noticed a difference in your emotional level, especially if you're carrying a different gender? I have got to believe that it's b/c I'm having a girl this time...
I agree with you 100%! My mom said she was almost certain this one was a girl, before we even found out, because I was such an emotional MESS. I have cried more in this pg thus far, than I did in my last 2 pg's combined. After the babies were born I was also a complete mess, but I don't count that (plus I had PPD after #2). My DH has figured out to just give me space, especially when I am exhausted at the end of the day. Honestly, most nights after the boys are in bed, I just go back to my nest in my room and watch TV until I crash :o
Just a thought - for moms who are "cleaning out" clothes for a certain sex - would anyone be interested in a swap?
I don't know what we're having yet, but if it's a boy I'd definitely be getting rid of our girl clothes.
And same for moms of boys who are having girls.
Who might be interested? I realize we have some time. Maybe if interested moms want to "catalog" what they have, we can get an offline discussion going to see who wants what.
Just thought that since many people in the group are ROs (and first timers are welcome too!!!) many of us won't be getting showers. While I'm sure we'll get gifts for the new baby; it may not cover everything that's needed, KWIM?
If you're interested in a clothes swap - send a PM to the TM account.
What if when you PM the TM, you include what size (and season) of clothes you have and for what sex. Also include what size/season you'd be most interested in.
Plus, if you had your first child(ren) in a different season - then you'd need appropriate sizes for the summer/fall. :) Don't you love how I rationalize this? :D
I will be able to compile the list tomorrow. I have the day off for my appointments so I'll work on it from home in the afternoon. Let's put a "deadline" on it by say April 10th? Whew. Thanks guys for telling me you're all wrecks too! :p Seriously, I was beginning to wonder if a)this level of emotion was just me and b) if this little girl is going to wind up maniacal or bipolar or something! It helps considerably to know I'm not alone here. I think at my next midwife visit I'm going to tell them to screen me very carefully for PPD. While I think DH might notice if I am, I don't think he'll know what to do...
Anyway, on to lighter subjects... I'd be up for a clothes exchange! Of course that means I'd have to actually delve thru and see what I've got. I'd be able to go up to ~18 mos, since #2 is wearing #1's bigger stuff.
Clothes swap- Since I don't know what I'm having I have no idea if I still need my girls clothes or not. I would have to wait til after the baby is born and then I'd be willing to swap if I have a boy.
Chimichanga- Delegate! I'd be happy to help out howeve.
AFM- Yesterday's appt went well, even though I was a day early.:o The OB was nice enough to see me anyway. I have another UTI.
VENT- I took my RX to Walgreens and the girl said "20 min". Fine. After 1/2-hr I walked by up and asked if my RX was ready and she said "just a few minutes". I sat down and about 10 min later she said "what's your name?" I told her yet again. It got to be an hr and I KNEW they had forgotten me. People after me were getting their stuff. I very rarely go off but I was so irritated. I told the girl that I had been waiting an hr and she looked at me like who are you again and said "oh really". I said "seriously, it's not ready yet? I'm not even in the queue, am I?" I told her to just give me back my script now and that it was ridiculous that she forgot about me 3x's. She never apologized or said anything. I spent an hr of my life in some worthless pharmacy and still left without my antibiotics AND I had to go to another pharmacy and wait again. Asshats. This pharmacist was super nice and told me I was having a boy and that he's never wrong about these things. Haha, I hope he's right. When I was pregnant with DD EVERYONE told me I was having a girl so maybe there is something to it.
My big u/s is scheduled for Apr 27, yay! I'm going to take the girls with me, I think they'll really like seeing the baby.
poodle - What a PITA regarding the rx!! Those types of things drive me nuts...and I can't believe the tech didn't even apologize. Grr.
chimi - I will send another PM with the info. I plan to go through my stuff this weekend, and will pull out all the 'swap worthy' items. Do you want us to list them out individually?
Belly pic - DH insisted on taking another belly pic of me last night, at 19w2d. Since it isn't a pure side view it is hard to tell, but this belly is a lot longer and less 'pointy' compared to my earlier pg's. Oh, and it is so comforting to see that my butt is expanding to balance out my belly :eek:
Jen309 we have your list for swap :)
Any interested mommies who would like to swap clothes please send a PM with the following information:
Your Username
Your email (we'll coordinate things through email)
Estimates on what clothes you have and you're willing to swap (i.e. 0-3 month summer girls clothes, 3-6 months fall girls clothes; some long sleeves, some short, etc)
How high you'd be willing to swap in terms of sizes
What you'd like to receive (i.e. 0-3 summer boys onesies/shorts, 3-6 month fall boys clothes; some football themes, etc)
At this time we don't need an exact count/description of what you have; just seasons/sizes.
Once we have the "group" assembled, we'll match up and start swapping. At that time, are more defined "inventory" will be needed. How would people like to do swapping; in lots (i.e. 10 onesies, 5 pairs of pants, 2 hats) or by item?
If you're a first time mommy or your second child is of the same sex, feel free to join! :D Just because you're an RO doesn't mean both kids will necessarily be fitting into the same size in the same season.
yoga - if that butt is big I've got an elephant growing on my ass! ;) You look GREAT!!!!!
poodle - sorry to hear about the pharmacy. Ugh. They so annoy me sometimes. And chances are it was some high school type intern who did it.
I'm so excited for tomorrow. DH is still convinced it's a girl; I'm convinced it's a boy. I guess one of us will be right (I'd love for it to be me, but I just want healthy baby!!)
poodle, oohhhh, reading your pharmacy story makes me SO mad! :mad: Almost the same thing happened to me a few months ago at a Rite Aid. I usually go to a community pharmacy since they are SO nice to us and participate with our insurance. But, I thought I'd 'cheat' and pick up a script quickly-- uhhh, joke was totally on me!
jen, you're funny about the emotions. In fact, every Wed, another week ticks for me and I get an email talking about what to expect this week. For the 21st week, it read that hormones should start to stable this particular week, so maybe we'll all be tame again!
***
Again, not much going on around here. Just feeling movement every day, which is cool but kinda uncomfortable at times. My back is really in a lot of pain most times, so I may have to get a belly holder to give support-- I've never had even close to this much weight on me, so it's been difficult.
Tomorrow I'm actually going to be in a maternity fashion show thing. The 'Pea in the Pod' that I've bought things at are doing a show that will be on an Atlanta morning show, so they asked me to be part of it.
I love, love, love the dress they picked for me-- my theme is date night-- and I get a discount for participating, so I may have to buy this cute thing! It would be perfect for one of my hometown showers.
We had our big u/s today....
It's a
GIRL!!!!!
We're excited. :D Butter Bean was NOT happy to be disturbed this morning. Normally she's pretty mellow in the morning. I don't usually get kicks until ... 12-1. So getting poked and prodded at 11 was an early morning I guess. Things looked good. But she kept hiding so we didn't get good pictures. The tech gave us two, but they sorta suck. :o
We went to check out some bedding/room decoration ideas. My parents are buying the furniture again (convertible crib, dressers, etc) so that is a huge relief and we are very grateful!
How cool, tandt! That fashion show sounds like so much fun and yay for a discount.
You look great, yoganut. Funny what you said about the butt... my mom said that she thinks this baby is a boy 'cause I'm not gaining in my butt like I did with the girls. Thanks, mom.:rolleyes:
What time was chimichanga's u/s? I'm dying to know who she has in there.
ETA: Haha, Chimichanga, we cross-posted. Congrats on another girl! Sisters are fantastic.
Poodle - I agree on sisters. My sister and I had fun growing up and are pretty close now. Of course we had some MAJOR fights, but it's all part of the experience, right? :)
I'm curious how Sunshine's appt went today :)
chimi - Congrats on the baby GIRL! So exciting...and with 2 girls that close in age, they will be good friends. That's great!
tandt - So we have a model in our group :D Very cool! I hope you get pictures of the dress...I am dying to see what it looks like.
Poodle - That is so funny...
my mom said that she thinks this baby is a boy 'cause I'm not gaining in my butt like I did with the girls.
It happens to be true in my case...my butt melted away when I was pg with my boys, and I carried my pg all up front. Not this time :rolleyes:
So, I am really emotional today (surprise!). Seriously, we have really been struggling with a 10 month old Goldendoodle puppy that we have had since last July. When we got her, we weren't thinking we were going to try and get pg. She is sweet, but has special needs...even for a puppy (I raised my other dog since she was 8 weeks). After spending a fortune on trainers and working with her really consistently, she is still so difficult. We can't have her loose with the boys or she jumps up on them and 'mouths.' She has also started jumping up on me, and yesterday went right at my belly. She has to spend most of her time in her crate, because we have to supervise her every second she is out, or she might hurt someone or get into something bad.
Last night, we kind of faced the obvious that the current situation isn't fair to her, and that it is not going to get better once the baby comes. It looks like we are going to have to rehome her, which makes me really sad and I feel like a failure :( She needs to be in a home without young children, and where she will get lots of focused attention. We are trying to work with a Golden Retriever Rescue, and will keep her until we find the right family...but it is sad. I have never had to rehome an animal.
yoga - I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. But, it sounds like you guys did everything you could. it's not like you just don't want the dog. My SIL did that; they got a dog from a shelter and she realized she didn't want the mess. They kept the dog in the basement in the crate 23x7 (out to potty and eat; that's about it). I felt so bad for the dog, but we are at our dog limit. They gave the dog away (along with another dog before this one).
You recognize it is probably not the best situation for the dog (I'm not suggesting it isn't, but it's what I'm inferring from your post) and aren't being selfish and not giving the dog to a home who has the time to dedicate to the dog.
Poodle~ Oh my gosh, I can't believe that pharmacy! What a joke. I would have been irrate. Grr... add that to a UTI and I would have been out for blood!
Yognut~ You look adorable and your booty isn't looking large to me. I'm sorry about your dog too, it does sound like you are making the right choice for your family and for the dog. But it still sucks.
tandt~ I hope you had fun in your fashion show, what dress did you end up modeling?
Chimi~ Yayyyyyy for another little girl!:D Looks like your DH was right on this time.
We had our big 20 week ultrasound on Monday and it was amazing. It was sooooo hard to look away when the tech said so we wouldn't find out the sex. It was like having a big piece of chocolate cake right in front of you and turning it down!:p She took so many pictures and gave us some 4D pictures too. They even burned me a CD after printing out a bunch of photos on those strips, it was so cool! I'm madly in love and feel so much happier knowing this little one is safe and sound.
I did upload a few to share, these are a little alien-y but I love them!
I love the little arms over head here...
So today I got a form to sign for the tubal procedure. Yup, I am getting the tubes tied with my c-sec. I was also supposed to get a birth date today....was going to be the 6th, but my doc is off that day :p So will more than likely be the week before that he said. Will let me know (on my next appoint I guess?!)
Heart rate was 135.
Yoganut- so sorry to hear about the dog. labradoodles, I've heard, can be hyper. Lord knows Labs are! I had our dog from 8 weeks and she was a handful for three years (two and half of those included DS1). If you saw the movie Marley and Me...O.M.G. That was me. Jen Aniston and I could trade places in an instant! (Oh to have her body!). Do what's best for your family and the dog. Best wishes find a good forever home for him.
Chimi-CONGRATS ON YOUR GIRL!!!
--
Us. NOt much here. I over did it today. I spent the morning wandering in the rain with my 2 year old at the outlet mall. Found a few great deals. A few bummer deals. And a ton of cute clothes for DS2. Not so much for DS3. I was hoping to find some thing that would help me bond with 3. I did find a cute onesie from Carters that says "Mommy's New Man". I thought it was appropriate. Otherwise, i just looked. I guess that it wasn't cheap enough yet !LOL! Then tonight we went on a family walk. It was nice, but oh my, my hips ache. Gotta do that more though.
DH is going to be gone from tomorrow eve until Sunday. He has a fishing tourney. So it's me and the boys. I hope to do a lot of Easter projects with the kids and get some nice time outside. I have a lot of yard prep to do. I hope DH's check next week will allow me some $$ to buy mulch and get some flowers. I want the yard done by mid-April. I may also open up the house-pull down all the plastic covering the windows (We live in an OLD house with tons of drafts). I'm ready, as my 4.5 year old says, to let my arms feel the breeze!!
Our great name search has begun! :rolleyes: I think this is going to be a process.
When we had DD, we narrowed our list down to three names:
Reagan (what we chose)
Meghan
Cameron
I refuse to have a Reagan and Meghan. Too close for my taste. DH has decided he doesn't like Cameron as much any more. So really, we have NO girl names we both like. :eek:
When we started with DD1, we had - oh maybe 5 names we both sorta liked. We we let things sink in, we really narrowed it down to those three and sorta ended up really disliking the other two.
I've got a list of maybe 15-20 names that I like. Not in love with any of them, but I don't want to LOVE a name and then have DH hate it. I told him where the list was and told him to review it. I guess we'll see what names are left! :)
Names: DH get's first choice on this time around (we alternate) but I have veto power. We usually do traditional family names, but this third boy is driving us crazy...we have no idea. We both like William, but that is my best friends son's name. I want to use Liam instead. DH isn't sold. Ideally, i want Caleb Patrick (just love the name) but we have and Edward Henry and a John Albert....throwing Caleb in there may just be too weird. He suggested Charles and I vetoed it as a first name, might work as a middle. It's my grandfather's middle name and my brother's middle. I just hate Chuckie. Sigh...this one is proving hard....so these are the current name son the table:
William - family
Patrick
Charles - family
Caleb
James
If we keep up the boy thing, we can cover all the kings of England in one family. Ugh.
lady - what we liked for boys:
Aaron
Reid
Rhys
Cole
Connor
Maxwell (super trendy though)
Jackson (but this is sooooooo common now)
Here's our short list for girls:
Lauren
Jordan
Aubrey
Sloane
Bridget
Campbell
And I do mean short - I had about 20 names on the list and this is what is left. We still haven't looked through our name book yet, so I'm sure we'll add/delete more. DH said he's not in love with any of them, but I figured this is good opening dialog at least. :)
Ugh, names... we can't agree on anything yet, but we're keeping a list of things we like individually to see if one pops out eventually. We don't officially name our kids til after they're out anyway, so I'm not too worried - yet!
Chimi Congrats on your girl!
Yoga You look great in your pic!! So sorry to hear about the dog, but like others have said, you've done what you can. Now you have to balance what's best for the pup vs. what's safest for your kids. I know it's hard to do... I was soooo worried our Golden Retriever wouldn't do well living with kids - he'd been around my nieces, but they're older. Luckily, he did fine, but he was also 4.
Sunshine Add me to the list of eh u/s pics... just a profile and straight on Skeletor. So excited to hear that we're going to have an official birth date in here soon though!!!
Lady Good luck this weekend! While I like time alone, I don't always like being single parent, you know? Sounds like your house will be Easter-iffic though!
Poodle I've been in that mess with Walgreens before too. :rolleyes: I'm glad you didn't hold back your frustration though! Sounds like that tech could use a good telling off.
Not much going on around here. We're going to visit DH's fam in IL over spring break - might be the last time we're there before the baby comes. The baby seems to be doing well. I'm feeling nudges all the time and some definite jabs too :D DH felt a couple in bed the other night, but he's having a hard time diferentiating between my breathing and bumps :rolleyes: Um, kicks aren't exactly slow... that should be a clue! :)
lady1297~I need to get some more walking in too. My problem is when I do too much walking I get a killer sciatic nerve pain. Almost dropped me in Michael's with my daughter last night.....ugh.
Oh, and I was like you in the wanting to keep the names kind of the same....although I Do Love Caleb :)
Chimichanga~If this baby was a girl I would be in the exact same situation. Our daughter was born "girl"! lol. We started name talk for girls but it was so frustrating....
I LOVE Jordan for a girl :)
Jen309~Its so exciting to know that I could have had a birth date already, I was kind of bummed when he said he would have to think about it since he was off the "ideal" day :p
And yah on the u/s photos. We got 8 amazing photos with my daughter, so seeing these 4 soso pics for my son.....sucks...
Names
Our son will be named Marcus
We discussed Corinna for a girl. We looked a bit but just couldn't find one we loved. My daughter actually pointed to Corinna in the baby name book and we both kind of went "Hmmmm, that is really cute!"
Me~Not much to report....baby is moving and grooving, although I can't wait for the time when my entire belly moves around. LOVED that time!
Also forgot to say my weight was good, doc says :p I have gained 12 pounds. Doing MUCH better than when I was pregnant with my daughter :p So even if I gain 1 pound a week from here on out my total will be 31! Not bad! I gained 45 with my DD........
He also wants me to get my eyes checked again. Seeing alot of spots when at work. Same thing happened with my DD. Everything was fine then. Thinking I may end up on medical leave in the next 10 weeks if it continues......
Hope everyone is well!!! (I'm chancing it and checking in at work :p)
He also wants me to get my eyes checked again. Seeing alot of spots when at work. Same thing happened with my DD.
I had the same thing with DS2. I'd get optic headaches too, where whole sections of my vision would blank out. It was scary, but for me, nothing serious. Hope the same is true with you!
