I want to give a friend's 1 year old a class at the place where my son takes music classes for her birthday. The catch is that I bought a series of 3 classes in an auction for a children's museum while I was pregnant and the auction/event title is listed on the certificate ("This is in honor of LittleKids Musuem Auction").

Part of the reason that I'm giving her this gift is that we've talked about taking a music class together so I know that she'd like it but also because the place is still fairly new so they don't have many classes for my sons age on the schedule.

The place said that I can do whatever I want with the certificates since they're mine, sell them, give them, etc.

So my question is given the event title is in the event, is it okay to give as a gift?

I would give them and just tell the friend you purchased them through an auction, hence the listing on the certificate. I don't see anything wrong with that, and I personally wouldn't worry about etiquette on something like this, especially if it's a good friend. (Which I would assume is the case, since you essentially are giving her child a $200 birthday gift.)

I did kind of think about the value in this too...She's not a best friend but mid level and we're trying to build more. :) I just want the GC to be used.

i'm not big into re-gifting, but this is totally fine and a very generous gift.

I don't see how this would be a re-gift since you bought it. Right?

This isn't a re-gift. You bought it and now your giving it. No problem! FWIW, we like to shop at Silent Auctions too and we often give our 'winnings' as gifts. We'll usually bid with the specific intention of giving it as a gift and it feels extra nice since we've been able to benefit a charity as well.

Thanks for the responses. I think I was kind of nervous because I mentioned it to her before (in relation to my son) and did mention I bought the classes at the auction so they weren't as pricey as they'd seem. But she's had a lot of family events going on lately, so might not have focused on my small talk.
