We are in the middle of doing DDs big girl room & need a black out shade. I found the curtains I want to buy but I do not think they are heavy enough to block out the amount of light I want to block out for naps. I like the looks of PBKs black out panel but I don't like the price ($50). Has anyone found anything similar for less? Something I can use in conjunction w/ my curtains?

TIA!

I got some online from target but I don't remember how much they were.

I need to get another one for DD's room, but I got one for DS at Walmart. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it does the job!

JC Penney -- they were definitely under $20 per window.

Bed, Bath and Beyond has them. They're folded and in a hanging package in the window treatment section.

We just got one of those cheap white vinyl blackout shades at the local hardware store to go under DD's shade.

We have a hotel overstock type store here where they sell stuff that used to be in hotel rooms. They sell the drapes there for only $5 so I bought the blackout fabric there and hung it behind the blinds in DS2 room.

In my DS1's room he helped me to stamp it and we hung it as panels that can be pushed to the side in front of his blinds.

Levolor blinds from Lowe's--around $40 a piece, I believe. They work great.

I bought the Wendy thermal panels from JCPenney. The color of the drapes is key, though as one of the reviews says they are not room darkening. I bought brown for our room and navy for DS2 and both rooms are very dark.

For my DS's curtain, I got the Mickey fabric I wanted and we bought big black felt (not the tiny sheets, but bolt felt) and I sewed that onto the back of his curtain, we have that in front of his window blinds. All total cost me about $5 for the curtain.

I have to get some for my twins room curtain, made the curtain but didn't get the felt yet.

We got cutsom ones from Home Depot. They were pricey, but worth it, as the cheapie ones we bought kept breaking.

Thanks everyone for your helpful responses! I ended up finding something at the hardware store & I'm crossing my fingers it works well!

Got black-out shade at Lowes for $20? I think. It works great! His room can get lots of sunlight and blinds would still let in too much light.
