I haven't had it done, and I don't know anybody personally who has had it done, but MIL and my sister both know people who had it done. They said it was very successful for them. The people they know apparently lost a lot of weight.

A former co-worker of mine did it. It worked well for him, he dropped a lot of weight in a short amount of time.

Sorry to be a downer, but if it really worked, wouldn't everyone have one by now, there would be studies to support it, and everyone would be thin?
I read that its based on acupunture. They place a staple in your ear that is supposed to be at the pressure point that controls appetite. I have no idea if it works. I would be afraid of the risk of infection. Anytime you pierce something you risk infection, but inside the ear is especially dangerous. I, personally don't think its worth the risk.

A friend of mine had this done (i couldn't even tell till she told me) & i was telling her i was thinking about it & she has done really well with it but forgets to massage where your jaw meets your ear ( you NEVER touch the staple with your only a q-tip with alchol or neasporin to clean it you should not move the staple)she has a friend how as lost 25 pounds since the first July. They have gone to an RN to have the staple done, many people do it but most people aren't trained i have done a l,ot of research on the girl i am thinking about going to she was trained acupunture & by a chiropractor & completed over 14 months of training. She says it's not for everyone but you want know till you try ut works diffrent on everyone. I am really thinking i might do this 3 of my best guy friends have gone to get stapled to quite smoking 2 it isn't working for & the other it is. The woman i am going to use has only had 2 people come back with infection & that was due to them not keeping the ear clean which is the most important thing to do! DH is supporting me if i do this which is a big thing he is pretty sceptical about things like this.

This is a type of acupuncture, which is considered alternative medicine. Many people in Western culture aren't into alternative medicines or holistic healing.

Do you eventually get it taken out? What happens when you want to stop losing weight? If it gets removed, does the weight come back on?

Yes you get it taken out the effects of the staple can last from 6 wks-6 months. The lady I go to does not recommend leaving them in over 6 months. Once you have lost all the weight you want you get the staples removed. You shouldn't gain all the weight back because all the time you have had the staples your stomach has been shrinking due to the change in your appetite.

Just curious about how much this generally costs? I have insurance, but I'm not sure if this is something that they would cover or not. And if it's too expensive, then it's out for me......

Lurking...wanted to know what the progress was, if any? It may be soemthing to try after this baby is born.
wow, this is the first I've heard of this. I'm interested in learning more about it (out of curiousity if nothing else). Since reading this, I've poked around online but I can't find much info - any idea on what to search with or how to find a local person?

Well the staple worked for awhile then it just stoped. I lost a total of ten pounds i haven't gained it back but i haven't lost anymore either.:( The lady i went to to get it done says if you do it along with Weight Watchers youre results will be a lot greater. The website i got a lot of info off i just searched for & they have completely removed the message board area of the site. Here is the site of the women that did my staple she is really sweet & travels around to do the stapeling.http://www.acustaple.com Sorry i couldn't be of more help i'm thinking about geting my ears redone sometime after the holidays to give it another chance.

But then how do you know it isn't just the Weight Watchers?
I hate to say it, but this sounds like a scam.

well i have no clue about this stuff, but i would say if she's already lost 10lbs and is not on weight watchers then that's a sign it's working. This is so new to me. I've never had acupunture or anything related and i think this is in the same family as that. Target points? this one for weightloss?

Eh, could be a placebo effect (if you think you're not supposed to be hungry, you're liable to eat less). My point was that if the person doing it says that you should be on WW to see the best results, then it's really the WW causing the weight loss, and not the staple.

KRM&TPS- No i never went back to get my staples redone. Dh talked me out of it.
PG-rated- Robin(the lady who does this) dosen't say you should be on WW she said that it would definitly help if you were on the WW program.
I had my ears done the first time & saw no results at all wnet back had them redone & lost 10 lbs

I will have to second that staples don't work. I had them done and did not lose any weight. The only people I know that lost weight with them in were doing something else while having them in, i.e. walking, watching what they eat, WW, etc.
The lady that did mine now is getting sued by people and has shut down her business. I think that this is a RIP OFF!

I believe the idea of ear stapling is, as Lynds pointed out, based in acupuncture. It can be effective, but not by itself as a miracle solution. The thing is that acupuncture is not a "stand alone" cureall. Whatever you use acupuncture for - whether it's weight loss, migraines, to stop smoking, or any other pain or health issue - you have to take care of yourself and eat right and drink fluids and so forth. It has to be part of an overall holistic health program. You can't just expect any form of acupuncture to solve everything.
As an aside, they also do ear stapling (in a different location) to help you stop smoking. My brother did it and says that it did help him control the cravings a little, but again, it was part of a larger process, not the answer.
