Wow. What a shocker. ;)

I am shocked that this news flash made the main cover story rather than the plane crash.

All I want to know is why he waited so long when everyone knew he was gay?

I use to work with a girl that was a huge, I mean huge Clay Aiken fan and whenever anyone would bring up that they thought Clay was gay she would get hysterical. Lol, I wonder what she thinks now :D

I had no idea he was havia baby. Who did he have a baby with? I'm glad he came out, maybe now he can be at peace with who he is.

LMAO - I clicked on this and just went OOOOOOOOH!!!!

Well, I'm glad he finally felt like he could come out. Very cute photo. I might have to indulge in People.

A lot of people still view being gay as a horrible choice. Maybe he didn't want to disenfranchise his fans?

Here is the story (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=7&entry_id=26917)

That makes sense.

OK, this is hilarious, it was one of the readers comments from the story:

Bill Vigars went on to tell People.com, "Clay inseminated Jaymes while blindfolded and drugged, wearing a deep sea exploration suit using a robotic arm that he operated via the internet from a couch in an exclusive men's bar in Hollywood. She looks great and glowing, Clay looks green and a little light headed. He told me he's now having nightmares and is losing his hair...but everyone is fine and really excited..."

I thought this was a strange comment, not to offend, but only because a lot more people know who Clay Aiken is, than the other 2 in the plane crash. The only reason I knew who they were was from reading the smut magazines (People, Star, etc). The main population in America doesn't know who these 2 are, especially DJAM, who's known for his DJ abilities and his dating Nicole Ritchie. Yes, it's a tragic story, but outside of the reality/music world, the people who died and the 2 who survived aren't known.

As for Clay being the coverboy......cute pic, but not sure this was a cover-worthy story either. Everyone already knew it, everyone except him apparently! :p

Kristy K i'm sorry but that was extremely HARSH and way out of line!

Nice to see People thinks that a "nonshocking" coming out is more newsworthy than four tragic deaths and two horribly injured stars.

Anyway, I saw the news ticker last night on E! that said this issue of People would announce Clay being gay (hey, that rhymes!). I don't know of too many people that didn't know, especially after the whole Rosie/Kelly Rippa thing a while back when Rosie pretty much outed him.

Was Rosie outing him (like did he personally tell her that he was gay?) or was she just speculating like the rest of us?

As for the reason People placed Clay as the cover and not the plane crash, perhaps they'd already signed Clay for the exclusive cover?

imagirliegirl

They're in the business of making money. Since the celebrities aren't the ones who died, they don't get the cover story. Might seem mean, but it's really about the bottom line for them.

I can't remember what exactly what said, but she alluded to the fact that he was gay and just hadn't come out. IIRC - but I don't trust my own brain sometimes. ;)

I don't think KristyK was being intentionally harsh, but I do think she is right about the reasons. Most people in mainstream America couldn't tell you who Travis Barker is and even less could pick DJ AM out of a crowd. I could only pick out Travis Barker because I know he has a lot of tattoos. DJ AM could walk right past me and I wouldn't know it was him.

I get that more people across america are going to know who Clay Aiken is. I just meant that it is funny to see a giant picture announcing something that the whole popultion already knows next to a tiny picture of something that is pretty tragic. Travis and DJ AM may not be known by the everyone, but they are still pretty big celebs and it is a major story IMO. And people has put much less known celebs then them on its cover before.

I agree with Jenny that they must have had this as the cover story before the plane crash and maybe couldn't change it.

Hmmmm, where was I harsh and outa line? Just stating my feelings on the matter, and Clay is much more mainstream than the other 2, even thought 4 people DID die. Even I realize the irony behind the cover! But then you have to look at what magazine is sharing this story......It's PEOPLE, the same magazine that told us last week that "Jessica Simpson is in LOVE" again!

It's money, plain and simple, no matter who is on the cover. Didn't mean to sound harsh, and even added in that I didn't mean to "offend" with my wording. Take it with a grain of salt.

I do think it's true that most people do not know who Travis Barker and/or DJ AM are. My DH had no idea who they were when I told him about the plane crash. When I mentioned Blink 182 he knew who he was, but he had never heard of DJ AM.

I thought it was somehow in response to him grabbing Kelly Ripa and her getting all pissed. Then Rosie made some comment about him being gay. Maybe I'm just confusing the two events, though.

msnicolea I agree. Who cares who is gay and who is not
I'd actually LOVE to see a high-profile celebrity call a press conference to discuss his/her sexual preference and then once everyone gets there and the news is all hyped and going crazy for that person to then say, "I'm straight."
Maybe that would make people see how dumb it all really is

Exactly! i am on a committee with a significant # of lesbians--probably 80% or so. One day, my husband brought me lunch and after he left, one of the women said--"I didn't know you had a husband!" I was like--yeah, I'm straight--now you all know." ;->

No, I think that's how it happened. I think it was just a slip of Rosie's tongue and I think I remember her saying that she apologized to Clay for saying that at the time.

Yep, it was in response to Clay putting his hand over Kelly's mouth when they co-hosted the Live show.

Here is the call from Kelly to Rosie when she was on The View. Kelly Rippa calls The View (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhQQex2SY2Y). Although Rosie never comes right out and says anything about Clay's sexuality, she definately hints to it.

I agree with all of this. I don't know why someone's sexual preference is such a big deal, much less something that warrants front cover status.

I think he put his hand over her mouth when he was guest hosting and Kelly said something like don't do that. I don't know where your hand has been. Rosie then accuses Kelly of being homophobic.

Well you know Rosie, everything was a sexual issue and anti-gay. When she came out it just enabled her to say "I'm a big fat lesbian" before or after every.single.sentence.

That whole hand over mouth thing was so ridiculously over-exagerated!
I felt for Kelly - I HATE people touching my face! Hands are dirty and disgusting and who knows if people wash their hands after going to the bathroom - or maybe he was just shaking a ton of audience people's hands in the commercial - I mean - yuck! You just dont touch other people's mouths, yuck yuck yuck.
I totally didn't see it as anything homophobic at all and did the biggest eye-roll at Rosie when that whole thing exploded!
