View Full Version : What is your "feel good" song?

You know, that song you hear on the radio and HAVE to crank it up and sing to the top of your lungs? (Please tell me I am not the only one who does this :p )
One of mine is "already gone" by the Eagles. It came on as I was approaching work this morning and I actually sat in the parking lot be-bopping to the whole song before I walked in.
"Well I heard some people talkin' just the other day.
And they said you were going to put me on a shelf.
Let me tell ya I got some news for you, and you'll soon find
out its true. And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself."
'Cause I'm aaaaaalready gone. :)
What's yours?

Sing at the top of my lungs!? Oooo, I have a few!
Jack and Diane - John Cougar Mellancamp
"Suckin' on chili dog outside the tastey freeze.
Diane sittin' on Jacky's lap, got his hands between her knees
Jacky say, "Hey Diane, let's run off hind' shady tree"
Dribble off those Bobby Brooks slacks, now do what I please.
Jacky says, oh yeah life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin is gone
Say uh, oh yeah life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin is gone. They walk on."
Brown-Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
"Hey where did we go,
Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow,
Playin' a new game,
Laughing and a running hey, hey
Skipping and a jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our hearts a thumpin' and you
My brown eyed girl,
You my brown eyed girl. "
Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet
"Nibblin' on sponge cake
Watchin' the sun bake
All of those tourists covered with oil
Strummin' my six-string
On my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp they're beginnin' to boil
Chorus:
Wastin' away again in Margaritaville
Searching for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame
But I know it's nobody's fault "
Me and My Bobby Mcgee - Janis Joplin
"Busted flat in baton rouge, waiting for a train
And i’s feeling nearly as faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
It rode us all the way to new orleans.
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna,
I was playing soft while bobby sang the blues.
Windshield wipers slapping time, I was holding bobby’s hand in mine,
We sang every song that driver knew."

Fatboy Slim's "Praise you."
We've come a long long way together,
Through the hard times and the good,
I have have to celebrate you baby,
I have to praise you like I should

These are all great! I just thought of another one. "Some kinda wonderful." (cant' recall the artist)
I don't need a whole lotta money, I don't need a big fine car
I've got everything that a man could want, I've got more than I could ask for.
I don't have to run around, I don't have to stay out all night.
I've got me a sweet, a sweet lovin' woman, and she knows how to treat me right.
Well my baby, she's all right. My baby, she's clean out of sight, don't you know that she's...... some kind a wonderful....

"The Devil Went Down to Georgia"
Where he says:
"I told you once you son of a b!tch, I'm the best there's ever been!" I scream that part and it cheers me up!
Of course, this is the non-radio version!

It really depends on my mood. If I'm pissed about something, to calm me down I like "Smack my Bitch Up" by Prodigy, or "It Ain't My Bitch" by Metallica.
For general happy feel good songs, I like 80's music. Especially "I love Rock-n-Roll" by Joan Jett. I never get tired of that song. :)

Oh, this song is definitely one of my faves, too! My favorite line is "the best thing you've ever done for me is to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all." :p

most anything by dave matthews band, but in particular, "the best of what's around", as it's an upbeat song and it reminds me of when i first met my husband.
---
See, you and me, have a better time than most can dream, have it better than the best, and so can pull on through... Whatever tears at us, whatever holds us down, and if nothing can be done we'll make the best of what's around...

Carry On by Pat Green
Baby's just a little bit tired of the city,
Billboards and bullshit got her down,
Seem like you need a little hill country,
A Little backroads driving, little bit of the old top down,
Yeah, everybody gotta get away sometime,
Forget about yourself for awhile,
Seems to me that all you need is a ragtop car to ride with me,
I'm ok, I'm alright, just might get a little high tonight,
I'm ok, I'm alright, carry on

I might refer back to this to put together a work-out mix! Good choices, ladies!
Okay, y'all are going to laugh at me since I'm just a little bit behind the times - just enough to make me not cool. I will try to explain myself by saying I NEVER drive, so the only radio I listen to is at home in my kitchen, and that is usually on NPR.
Sooo ... I heard "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani for the first time a few days ago, and I totally love it! The beat is so catchy, it just made me so happy. I can't say I really understand the words, but it's a great pick-me-up!

This might not be a very popular one either, but another one I LOVE singing to is Elton John/Kiki Dee singing "don't go breaking my heart." I don't know why, but I love jamming to that song. :p

Anything by ABBA - most notably "The Winner Takes It All" or the discolicious "Dancing Queen".

"Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel. It makes me want to roll down my car windows, no matter what the weather.
Also like "Question Everything" by Eight Stops Seven:
Ever since I was a child
You always said that I should understand the rules
You take some and give less
Sit high above the rest...don't you
As I ask a simple question
Cuts me off with his reply
He's been practicing for decades
Now he thinks I have the time
He flows in and out of riddles
Looking me straight in the eye
But it seems like something's missing
From the days when he was more my size...
Oh, and my favorite because it will forever remind me of my best friend -- "Busses and Trains" by Bachelor Girl:
Hey Mom
Why didn't you tell me
Why didn't you teach me a thing or two
You just let me go
Out into the World
You never thought to share what you knew
So I walked under a bus
I got hit by a train
Keep falling in love
Which is kinda the same
I've sunk out at sea
Crashed my car, gone insane
And it felt so good
I want to do it again
Hey Mom
Why didn't you warn me
Coz about boys is something i should have known
Their like chocolate cake
Like cigarettes
I know they're bad for me
But I just can't leave 'em alone
Chorus
I wanna do it again
Oh, felt so good
Hey Mom
Since we're talking
What was it like when you were young
Has the world changed
Or is it still the same
A man can kill and still be the sweetest fun
Choruses Out

I feel really corny saying this, but if anyone has seen the movie Matilda with Danny DeVito, I just love the song at the end, called Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root:

Three Little Birds - Bob Marley
Don’t worry about a thing,
’cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin’: don’t worry about a thing,
’cause every little thing gonna be all right!
Rise up this mornin’,

Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,

Also:
American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
This is what I heard a "hollaback girl" is: In cheerleading, there is the leader that shouts out the cheers and the hollaback girls are the ones that repeat them. So, she's saying that she's not a hollaback girl, she's the leader, so whoever is messing with her better watch out.
I don't know if that's true or not.

Urban dictionary definition of Hollaback Girl:
It seems as though Ms. Stefani has had some incidents in which another young, presumably female, individual has made some disparaging remarks about her character. Upon learning of the situation, Ms. Stefani is informing this “culprit” that she intends to handle this matter physically. Ms. Stefani’s character is such that she is not the type of person who counters verbal attacks with verbal attacks, or “hollering back.” Using terminology that is commonplace among today’s youth, this is shortened to “hollaback.” Additionally, it appears as though this altercation will take place somewhere near the bleachers.lyrics:
I heard that you were talking shit
And you didn't think that I would hear it
People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up
So I'm ready to attack, gonna lead the pack
Gonna get a touchdown, gonna take you out
That's right, put your pom-poms downs, getting everybody fired up
I love that song too, so catchy!

I think I have several, but the one that is coming to mind as "can't be in a bad mood while listening to this" is "Oh What a Night" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I'm not sure if that's because of the memories or the song :).
I just realized that Beck is my feelgood musician, and his songs are what I turn to when I'm blue...
"Loser" is my all time feel good song. The lyrics crack me up...
In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
"Truckdriving neighbor downstairs" used to cheer me up when I was blue
Acid casualty with a reposessed car
Vietnam vet playin air guitar
Beck and Mahalia Jackson were my go to guys for feel good back in the day...Now that I have a baby I am forced to sing 'Twinkle twinkle little star' over and over so I get to play my music less and less these days.
