We need a baby gate. Pressure mounted for the bottom of the stairs. I want one with a door, so we can walk through it without having to remove the gate. There's one other requirement - if it's not latched, you need to be able to just push it open (the cat has to be able to get through at night to get to her food and the litter box). I don't want to spend a fortune, but I'm so sick of fighting with baby gates. (We need 4 gates in this house, and so far, we've returned 4 that didn't work for us. Oy.) Someone help a poor, frustrated girl out? Thanks.

we only have hardware mounted gates, so i can't help there. they put velcro on the gate and the wall so that we can hold it open when it isn't being used. we need about 4 more gates ourselves and my head spins whenever i start looking.

I have a page bookmarked on my pc at home that has a little door that kitty can walk through at the bottom of the gate, so when I get home from work, I'll post again, unless someone finds that particular gate first.
Unfortunately it's an expensive gate, like 65 bucks..

We got that gate. We have to return it, because it won't fit in the space we have.

I need a baby gate recommendation for the bottom of our steps. Only problem, one side of the stairs is a wall and the other side is open. There is a kick plate that runs slanted from top to bottom but it's only the height of the step.

Is there a gate (or other) solution for this?

Can your cat not jump over gates?

We have 3 baby gates up at our house - all the same one in varying configurations (the one blocking the entrance to the top of the stairs has been extended over 5' to fit the space):

Sure and Secure Extra-Tall Walk Through Gate (I think by Summer - bought at BRU for $59.99)

My son has never been able to open it (heck, my 5-yo niece can't do it either). Our cat jumps over the laundry room one (where food and kitty litter are) and walks around the spindles on the staircase on the other ones. (One at top and bottom of the stairs).

Love this gate b/c it's pressure mounted AND comes with 2 extensions. Our staircase is even metal posts on one side of the bottom and it still works great.

You can leave it unlatched, so it will push open, but my cat was never smart enough to get that. He always just jumps it. If we leave town we'll prop it open with a towel or something for him to make it easier (you could do that at night if you needed).

Oh, and FWIW, the customer service at Summer (or whoever maufactures the gate) was excellent. I misplaced some pins needed for the extension and when I called to get replacement parts (fulling intending to pay). They sent them off without question for free and I got them 2 days later. Not often that CS is that speedy and hassle free!

We have this (http://www.target.com/Summer-Infant-Deluxe-Walk-Thru/dp/B000MVORHY/sr=1-2/qid=1191854757/ref=sr_1_2/602-7111481-8935021?ie=UTF8&rh=k%3Asummer-gate-baby&page=1) pressure mounted gate. We love it. We got it at Target. The only bad thing is it is kinda pricey at $60.

The door swings shut on and latches its own. Our cats haven't figured out they can jump over it. So, I usually prop it open at night with a small pillow.

We have 3 of the one posted above (from target) and love them. More $, but totally worth it! It also comes with extensions, and I love that it's pressure mounted, so no drilling!

*BUMP* for a reply to my post! (the original post is a couple of months old)

I don't understand your description. We have a large bottom step and I'm amazed we've lasted this long without any issues, but we frequently revisit the idea of buying a gate. I think for us the only thing that would work is the Superyard XT. Have you looked to see if this would work for your stairs?
