Aaron slept a bit better last night. He still got up at 1 and 3:30 but I was able to get him right back to sleep each time. Then he was up at 5 to eat and then 8 for the day. Good thing it was a day where we didn't have to be out the door by 8:15!

Sethy comes home today! YIPPEE! I miss him soo much! I haven't seen him since Saturday so that's a long time to be away from him! Jackie has her last day of camp today and then we have a busy week next week and then it's her turn to go to Camp Grammie! THe week after that school starts already!! YIKES!!

threadmistresses Thanks for the new thread! I'll have to post a more recent picture for the front page.

Lisa He's been sleeping pretty well. Yesterday he took over 5 hours of naps :eek: so I thought that he'd be up wanting to play last night. He didn't wake up til 4:30 and was crying so I nursed him & he went back to sleep super quick-I think the teething is making him tired.

Woo hoo for sleep!!! I firmly believe that the more a baby naps during the day, the better they sleep at night since they aren't overtired!

Lisa Wow-I didn't realize Sethie had been gone for a whole week-that is a long time!! I remember when DSS went to his grandparents for a whole week - I think he was maybe 5 or 6. I told him that he was gone far too long and that I thought it was too long-he's never gone for that long since!

Yeah, my parents picked him up at FIL's rehab Saturday afternoon. They weren't going to bring him back until tomorrow but they have to be somewhere in the am. I'm glad he'll be home in a few hours, I miss him! He sounds so adorable on the phone, though! Of course he aways asks to talk to Jackie & Aaron and me last! LOL

QOTD: Does your baby have any favorite toys/ games/ songs? I just thought of this question while watching Aaron go crazy with Jackie's old Leap Frog Discovery Ball. I had forgotten we still had it until Seth's allergist appt a few weeks ago. The doc had one in the waiting room and Aaron loved it so I dug out our old one. It's one of his 2 favorite toys! He can sit and spin it for up to 25 mins at a time! His other favorite is a ball with big holes in it, sort of like a wiffle ball, that he can easily hold onto and play with. His fav song is Open Shut Them. If he wants us to sing it, he'll grunt and open and close his fists! If he's not happy all we have to do is sing this song and he'll stop fussing and laugh!

QOTD: Does your baby have any favorite toys/ games/ songs? Wyatt LOVES the teething rings that link together & make a chain. His favorite song is Old MacDonald - guaranteed to get a laugh out of him! He's also liking Peek-a Boo and just being scared a little bit in general gets a laugh out of him. I can just sit there staring at him, then all of a sudden say "Boo!" and he thinks it's so funny! He's also very entertained by the dog!

Lisa That ball looks cool! Wyatt likes balls too, but he can't manage to pick the big ones up like he wants (he wants to be able to put them in his mouth!

Eliezrah

You mean the Discovery Ball? We love it! It stays on the stand for little babies and they can just spin it and watch the lights and hear the music. You can also put it to play the ABCs. When they are older and crawling, you can take it off the stand and they can roll it along the floor.

Sashi Nice! But I want to see the special picture you had done of Ollie, or do you not have it yet?

Oh it's not done yet. It's going to be on canvas and it's called a Triptych so it will be vertical 16 x 40 and framed. There will be three portraits, Oliver in the middle and the three of us on top and bottom in different poses.

This is the guy we used, he is awesome!

Oh it's not done yet. It's going to be on canvas and it's called a Triptych so it will be vertical 16 x 40 and framed. There will be three portraits, Oliver in the middle and the three of us on top and bottom in different poses.

This is the guy we used, he is awesome!

Dan Brody (http://www.danbrody.com/)

His shtick is barefoot and warm.

Can you put Oliver's 6 month WBV stats on there:

6 months:
Weight: 18lbs 14oz
Height: 27 1/2 inches

Ooh shiny new thread, thanks!

qotd Currently Leo's favorite toy is a simple wood one from Plan Toys

http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-63509592505417_2014_8413998

He also likes to play "empty the toy basket", which goes..tip over basket of toys, pick one up, put in mouth, toss it aside, repeat until basket is empty. It keeps him entertained for awhile.

Dana Happy Birthday!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I'll be back for SO's later, but wanted to stop in real quick with an update.

Kassidy was 6 months old Wednesday. DH took her to the doctor today and here's her new stats:

17 lbs, 2 oz
27 1/4"

DH asked about the flat spot on her head and her dr gave us orders to have an x-ray of her skull. I hope it's not major, but the diagnosis say plagiocephaly. :( I'll have to call and schedule an appointment for that on Monday. She got another round of shots and has been awesome...no fever and no crying!

Pookie Wow, she's a tall girl!! Sorry to hear about the flat spot-why do they need to do an x-ray, I wonder? I'm sure it's easily fixed since she's so young though!

La_Mer Leo's game sounds fun!

Sashi That photographer does great stuff! I'm sure your picture will turn out awesome-I can't wait to see it!

Lisa Oh yeah, I meant the discovery ball! :rolleyes:

Nothing much new here-I'm glad it's Friday so I can relax tomorrow-well after DSS football game that is. He has to be at school for pictures at 7:30 -ugh! I just made him get all his gear together so he's not scrambling for it in the morning. Wyatt had a rough afternoon and was up since 1:30 when I picked him up at 5:00. He only napped for 30 minutes in the car (we went home then to a China Buffet to eat) and was quite cranky! I had DH take a picture so we have an official 6 month one, but I'll take some more tomorrow.

Megan: She wanted an x-ray to make sure the plates on her skull aren't fused yet. I'm just hoping this isn't bad enough to warrant a helmet, even though I know it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I expect that she'll be tall. She'd been 95% in weight and this time dropped down to 75% but has stayed at or above 95% for height. I'm sure she'll be tall and skinny like me!

Lisa: Thanks for the new thread!

QOTD: Does your baby have any favorite toys/ games/ songs? She loves her exersaucer. She also loves anything that sings and lights up, so she likes these two toys:
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-3621224reg.jpg

http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-4311517dt.jpg

As for songs, she likes anything as long as you're singing! We sing Old MacDonald, ABCs, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, 5 Little Ducks, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and a ton more. When I start singing, she starts smiling.

Sleep: I'm shocked that Kassidy has slept all night the last two nights. She had been getting up at 12, 3, and 6 for a couple of weeks. Then she went back to her usual 3:30 waking. So Thursday night when she slept through I was shocked (especially since I had stayed up to watch the Olympics) and even more shocked that she did it last night too! It's been several weeks since she STTN, so I needed it!

Daycare has been a rollercoaster. Monday she was great. Tuesday I worked longer than I had intended and when I went to pick her up she was screaming. I was pissed. I talked to the morning teacher the next day and she assured me they would work out the issues (staffing mainly because when I got her Tuesday she was in the swing screaming...the teacher in there obviously needed help). Wednesday she did great until DH went to pick her up. She cried with him until I got home (with a nap in between). She was just missing me! Thursday she was great all day and Friday she was only there a couple of hours. It seems to be getting better. Tuesday was the rough day. But once we get home, she just wants me. She was giving DH a complex because he'd hold her and she'd start crying. But she did really well with him Friday and I told him it's because I wasn't there. If I'm there, she's going to want me. Hopefully we've turned a corner and next week will be easier for both of us. I had a hard time leaving her Wednesday after what happened on Tuesday. I did call and check on her Thursday and had an opportunity to talk to the afternoon teacher. That made me feel a lot better.

Okay, I gotta go. K is trying to reach the keys on the laptop.

I'm shocked by how many 'different' toys we all have for our little ones.

Ollie's Favorite Toys at the moment are:

and

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/414qSRTc6cL._SL500_AA250_.jpg

I have to buy something for our cousin's daughters 1st b-day to ship down to Florida. Any ideas, good suggestions? I want to spend around $40 but want something substantive and fun!

Pookie - What is that first toy?

PookiePrincess
08-16-2008, 09:04 AM
It's like a plastic book that sings. I was actually thinking of the vtech version when we bought it, but I couldn't find it. For some reason, she loves the thing! The nose lights up when it sings. She sits up and flips the pages and pushes the buttons in the middle (which counts, identifies the beginning letter, and says colors).

I'll be back for SOs after I finish the dishes...

Sashi, if you are willing to spend $10 more (or if you can find any coupons) I'd highly recommend the Fisher Price Bounce & Spin Zebra. (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2298888) ILs got it for Seth when he was 1 year old and he still uses it now and loves it. We got it for our nephew's 1st bday and he loves it as well!

OK dishes are done now! LOL I'm loving all these toys!

Kristi, I hope everything comes out ok with the x-ray! I also hope daycare works out next week. Why was she crying in the swing? Are there enough teachers vs babies for the correct ratio?

Megan, can we see his 6 month pic?

08-16-2008, 05:15 PM
Pookie Oh, I hope that it's OK! I'm sure that if she does need a helmet, it will be for just a short time. Wyatt loves his exersaucer too! I carried it out in the living room today & he dropped the toy he was playing with and just want to go in it! It's so fun how they want to play now!

Lisa That zebra looks fun! DH & I were able to go out to dinner tonight since my sister was kind enough to babysit for us-no dishes for me! Yipee!

Sashi That's the same jumperoo that Wyatt's babysitter has-he has lost interest in jumperoos for the moment-I'm hoping that he'll gain interest again at some point!

OK, will post a picture next-I don't have anything really good yet, maybe tomorrow. He was pretty crabby yesterday due to teething (I knew I should have taken his pic in the morning). I can see a tooth and expect it to be all the way through by morning and then the next one will be soon to follow! Poor little wy, but he's taking it really well considering!

-the remote control
-the aspirator
-plastic perrier bottles

Obviously I watch her with it and I have taken the top off.

Julia's 6 Month Visit

Weight: 14 pounds, 13 ounces
Weight Percentile-25th
I actually didn't listen to the rest. I'm always so focused on the weight. I'm always relieved that she is gaining enough since she is petite and she is exclusively bf and since she does not take bottles I really have no idea how much she takes in.

Hey I haven't posted in awhile, I've skimmed.

Rachel had her six month appointment on Friday and she's still huge - I wonder how long it will last. 27.8 inches (99%) and 18.8 lbs (96%)

Lisa: They were having a hard day Tuesday. Kassidy was cranky most of the day and when I went to pick her up, there were 4 babies and 1 teacher. I think there's only 5 babies in there and during the middle part of the day when all the babies are there, there are 2 teachers. The teacher had just finished changing a baby and Kassidy was in the swing crying. When I talked to the teachers, the one afternoon teacher said she talked to the director and told her they need an extra person in there, especially until Kassidy adjusts. The other one told me that she told the afternoon teacher not to hesitate to ask for help because they usually have lots of extra people floating around that can help. They knew I was upset, especially the next morning when I went to drop her off, but that was the worst day. I think we all underestimated how much of an adjustment it would be for Kassidy. I was partially hoping she'd be as easygoing as she was when she went at 3 months.

Megan: DH said her doctor didn't seem to concerned, but we'll see what happens with the x-ray. I almost didn't get an exersaucer. If my friend wouldn't have given me hers, I don't know that we'd have bought one. I'm sure glad we have it! She just plays with all the toys and talks up a storm. And they have two different ones at daycare...including one that's a car that she loves! That's a good picture of the two of you. Wyatt looks so sweet in his big boy car seat!

JBB: Oh, Kassidy loves the remote. We have dish network, so it's a nice and colorful and I think that draws her attention. I switch it to aux and let her play with it. Julia is a peanut, but I wouldn't be concerned as long as she stays along the same curve for weight. I imagine Kassidy's weight curve will continue to go down because of her genes...I was shocked to have a 95% baby!

ETA: Holly: She's gorgeous! I'm actually glad that there are so many babies in here that are big. Everyone is always so surprised at how big Kassidy is so it makes me feel better that there's a ton more in this thread!

OMG Aaron was up EVERY SINGLE HOUR last night!! :eek::eek: WTF??? :confused::confused: He got 3 naps yesterday but each one was only about 1/2 hour and none were in his crib, so we're hoping that was the reason. We took the kids to mini golf yesterday morning and he napped in the stroller there. Then we went to visit FIL in rehab and Aaron napped on the way down and back in the car. We're not leaving the house today so hopefully he can catch up a bit. Tomorrow is another fairly busy day and I feel so bad for Aaron when he doesn't get to have all his naps in his crib, but since he takes 3 a day and goes down 2 - 2.5 hours after waking still, I can't plan the entire family's days around that! :(

Did anyone watch Phelps last night?! OMG What a race! WOW!!!!!!

~~~~
Megan, how was dinner? I have Mom's Night Out tomorrow at the Melting Pot and I can't wait! As for the dishes, I barely did them all week since Seth was gone (we have to cook all his stuff separate so he creates a TON of extra dishes) so I had a big pile to do! LOL OMG he's getting so big and sooo cute! You look great too!!!! Do you want one of those pics added to the front page?
JBB, his 8 am sleeping was after getting up at 5 to eat. Usually when he actually STTN, he's up around 6/6:30. OMG I love that pic!! Too cute!!! Do you want that added to the front page?
Holly, that pic is so precious!!!! Can we add it to the front?
Kristi, {{HUGS}} I'm sure it'll get easier for her soon. 4:1 is the legal ratio so that's good, but it is hard to be alone with 4 babies!
~~~~

QOTD: Older kids pushing baby down: They don't really push Aaron over when he's sitting, but they get rough with him when he's on his tummy or back. They actually tend to ignore him somewhat when he's sitting on his own, thank goodness!

~~~~
I'll wait to do updates until everyone who posted a pic lets me know if they want it on the front page or not. I don't want to put a pic there and then have the mommy say she was going to take it down or something...
Lisa Thanks - I can't believe how big he is! There were 3 other babies at the pig roast today-Wyatt was bigger than the 8 month old! I thought I'd never say it, but there was a 3 week old baby there and I can't believe Wyatt was ever that small! How fast (&easily) we forget!
I hope that Aaron sleeps better tonight for you!
Holly Rachel is so cute sucking her thumb! Poor thing with getting pushed down-just wait until she can give it back!:)
JBB That's a cute picture of Julia with the bottle-has she actually gotten a sip of it? Does she like it? Hee, hee, hee!! I'm sure you know she's getting plenty-as long as she's gaining, it doesn't matter if she's petite or not!
Pookie I hope that daycare goes well for you this week-there's nothing more stressful than being at work after seeing your little one unahppy at daycare :(. I hope they're able to send an extra teacher in promptly when needed.
We have TWO TEETH!! They both came through this afternoon-I checked this morning and nothing was through yet, but he bit on my hand this afternoon and it was sharp, so I was finally able to check and they're both there! He has had a decrease in his appetite-is this normal when they're teeething? He slept all the way through the night last night-8:00 until 6:00. I'll be surprised if he does it tonight because he had lousy naps today and didn't eat as much as he usually does either. Hope everyone had a god weekend - they go far too fast for me!
JBB
08-17-2008, 05:47 PM
[COLOR="Red"]That would be great to have that pic in the front-thanks!/COLOR]
HollyGood to see you-the pic is adorable
PookiePrincessI think I'm just surprised that she's on the smaller side-but the ped says she's healthy so that's good enough for me!
EliezrahHope tonight goes better!
SolidsI'm beginning to think Julia will just drink milk for the rest of her life. She seems to hate eating. I will say today went a little better. I've been making warmed, mushy banana and she seemed to like it okay-which means she took 6 bites before refusing anymore-which means she had about a 1/4th of a banana!
mcgwigan
08-17-2008, 06:01 PM
JBB I think 1/4 of a banana is a lot! That's good! She'll get the hang of it! It's got to be so odd - all the different textures after having just liquid.
Hi! Haven't been here in a while, but I just skimmed to try and keep up. DH was out of town for the last 2 weeks and it's so hard to get on the computer when he's gone. I'm truly just too tired at the end of the day. I was out of town this past weekend. I got home this morning from a bachelorette party weekend in Charleston. It was interesting. I'm too old for these things and I really just wanted to come home and see the kids and DH. It's also not the most fun thing to have to go back to the room to pump every 3-4 hours. When DH dropped me at the airport he said "honey, there's nothing that says 'I'm here to party' like a breast pump" LOL :rolleyes: I laughed really hard when he said that, because oh how true that is!
Tripp has rolled front to back! He did it about 2 weeks ago. He had done it a few times in the crib, but I hadn't seen it for myself. I just knew he had rolled to his tummy at night and then when I went to get him he was on his back. Now he does it on the floor. Weird thing is that he won't roll onto his back from his belly in the crib any longer. That makes for long nights sometimes. He has been sleeping well 7ish - 5 sometimes 6. If he rolls to his belly, though, he cries to be turned over if he wakes up. Also, if he wakes up at 5, he doesn't want to go back to sleep. That kills me! I think I'm in the minority here, but I'd rather wake up at 2 or 3 and then sleep until 7 or 8 than sleep straight through until 5 or even 6. I am not a morning person! LOL
Feeding - Tripp isn't really a fan. He loved the avocados and the feeding experience, but since then he hasn't been a happy baby at dinner time. He seemed to tolerate pears, but did not like sweet potatoes at all. He's finally starting to eat the oatmeal. We took a break and started oatmeal again. Going slow because he really didn't seem interested there for a few weeks.
Tripp's favorite toys are his little crinkle blanket and his hands ... and anything else that I don't want him to put in his mouth. LOL
1st Birthday Gift - I've given that same zebra gift that Lisa gave. Only issue with that is if the kid isn't tall, they won't be able to use it for quite a while. Another good gift is something the kid can push. Like a ride-on/push toy combo.
JBB - A 1/4 of a banana is quite a bit for a 6 month old baby. That's good for her, I'm sure! She's probably full. She's still as cute as she can be. Tripp isn't a huge fan of food either. In time they'll be chowing down like the others LOL!
Lisa - I was in a bar when Phelps raced for his 7th gold. The dj came on and announced the race. Everyone in the place started cheering him, saying USA, and when he won the place went crazy. It was awesome!!
McWigan - Wyatt is so adorable in those pictures. What a sweet baby. I want to pinch his little cheeks! He just looks like a cuddler to me. Aw, he's got his teeth. Cool! Oh, and about the appetite/teething thing, I think that can happen. I vaguely remember hearing that. Although I'm thinking it might have been reversed - eating less then when teeth pop in they eat more because they aren't in pain. I think anything can happen with teething!
Holly - Rachel has beautiful blue eyes! What a cutie. I love this picture. It's probably truly captures what she is like every day. Sorry I can't help on the pushing thing. That's hasn't happened with us yet. But thanks for the heads up. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before DD catches on to the pushing over.
Kristi & Lisa - In GA, the state ratio of infants to teachers is 6:1. You are lucky to find a place that does 4!! You gotta remember that one adult can't calm 4 babies at one time and some crying will occur. I know you know that, but I thought I'd say it anyway. Not to be a PIA, just because I was like you about the crying. When DD first went into daycare, I was always upset when they'd let her cry that way. But after I talked to the teachers and watched the room, I realized that it happens sometimes and can't always be helped. More often than not, though, the crying doesn't go for long without a teacher picking up the baby. At least at my daycare, and I know yours rocks Kristi (from what you've said!).
PookiePrincess
08-17-2008, 07:08 PM
Tammie: I know. And the ratio here is 4:1 and it's an awesome center. They've had some changes in personnel and had one of the workers leave that was in the infant room, so they're sort of in between finding another good, steady person. And like I told DH, I would have been okay with her crying, that's fine, I know it's going to happen, but she was screaming. I mean screaming. So that's what got me. I made it known that I wasn't happy and the afternoon teacher knew that and felt bad. When she went to the local director to tell them they needed another person, she told them she'd go to the owner if she had to, so she meant business!
QOTD: Does your baby have any favorite toys/ games/ songs?
Declan really likes his Skwish (http://www.amazon.com/Manhattan-Toy-200980-Skwish-Classic/dp/B000GI0S4E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1219077753&sr=1-1)right now.
Just popping in to say hello and read your posts. Glad to read that everyone is doing well! Nothing new or exciting going on with us, except for the fact that Declan is going on a plane with us for the first time this weekend. I'm a little nervous and hope he doesn't scream the whole time!
Brady - Drew is huge! That's so wonderful to hear. We have some big boys and girls in this thread! Tall ones too!
Whoever said the remote was their DC's favorite toy, COULD NOT AGREE MORE! He will leap across a bed to get a remote, he will find it, chew it and hug it until I take it away. He just enjoys EVERY remote we have in the house. I wish i could fake him out. I'm thinking of taking one of the remote's batteries out and let him go to town. He seriously will try with all his might to crawl to get the remote.
The best is when he gets on his knee and realizes he can't move so he just propel's himself forward the furthest he can!
Brady: He is a big boy! That's awesome!
Rosebud: Honestly, I think the worrying about traveling by plane is worse than the actual experience. I worried for weeks ahead of time and she was pretty good. She did cry on the descent on our way home, but I fed her and she was better. She cried a bit and honestly, I did what I could to make her stop, but airplanes are so noisy anyways that it wasn't that bad when she was crying. I'm sure he'll be better than you think!
Sashi: That's funny about the remote!
Daycare went so much better today! I think from here it will just get easier! She did cry when I dropped her off, but they said she was really good today. When I got there she was sitting up on the mat playing.
Sashi Too funny about the remote-you could get him his own, no batteries and you'd never have to worry about not being able to work some electronic because you couldn't find it!
Pookie I'm so glad it went better today! Yay!!
I don't think we're out of the woods with teething just yet. He was super tired today and one of his naps was over 3 hours!!:eek: (why he doesn't do that for me at home....:rolleyes:) He was too tired tonight to eat any solids and was cranky by 6-sound asleep by 7. I'm hoping he sleeps a little later than 5 for me! He has STTN the past 2 nights, which was really nice, however, I have been waking up around 3 or 4 and have the hardest time getting back to sleep!!
Real quick drive by post (I'll do updates this weekend) since we're leaving soon for 3 days.... Aaron's sleeping is getting a bit better but he's still not STTN again yet. I had him CIO while I showered yesterday afternoon and he was hysterical but went right to sleep after I went back in after about 10 mins. The wa snap #2 and for nap #3 Scott had him CIO and he cried himself to sleep in about 5 mins. Both times he woke up last night, all I had to do was put the binky in his mouth and I was able to walk out the door. The past 2 weeks it was taking almost an hour each time he woke up to get him back to sleep, so last night was much better! He seems to have separation anxiety and he also seemed to forget how to put himself back to sleep so the 2 together made for really bad nights! I think the CIO yesterday really helped. Of course since we're spending 3 days at my parent's and will be gone pretty much all morning on Friday, his naps will be off schedule and short and not in his crib, so that will throw his sleep off again!!! LOL
I'll be back Friday afternoon to post more and do updates if no one beats me to it. I'll also have his 6 month stats from his WBV which is Friday morning.
Here's my list I'm bringing in to the doc on Friday:
Is it ok that he's not rolling yet? He does turn about 90% of the way and kicks his legs, etc.
HE'S SCOOTING BACKWARDS!!! He's also rotating in circles while on his belly
He SCREAMS while on his belly. Should we let him cry for a few mins before turning him over to get him more used to it and hopefully turn? He also spits up everytime even if he didn't just eat. Can he have reflux?
When can we start him on meats? He's already on stage 2 foods (fruits and veggies, etc) He eats 3 full containers a day as well as nursing around 7 times per day
The allergist feels the eczema on his chest is from drooling but wants us to keep an eye on it
We think he's allergic to pineapple
Aaron LOVES his binky and uses it to sleep and calm down still. At what age should we get rid of it? When do we start? How do we start? Jackie & Seth never took to a binky so it was never an issue.
Lately he stopped STTN and stopped putting himself back to sleep for nap. Can it be because of teething or his 6 month growth spurt? He slept GREAT for almost 2 months (since we started solids) and suddenly it stopped. What can we do to get him back to STTN and napping well?
I think he has separation anxiety already. Can that be related to the not sleeping? I noticed he often cries when we leave the room and he never used to. I have to stay in until he falls asleep, even when he gets up at night. CIO doesn't really work either. I've tried for up to 10 mins and he gets hysterical and then needs to be calmed down.
Have a good week everyone!
Remote Control - I'm sitting here laughing at this discussion. DH and I have talked about the remote control phenomenon so many times. LOL Both my kids LOVE the remote. It's one of those things, all kids love it. We tried to give DD toy remotes, old remotes with/without batteries, even a big huge joke type remote with batteries (but didn't work on our tv), and nothing tricked her ... it's like she knew which was the real remote and wouldn't play with any of the others. She's 2 and it's still like that today. Don't waste your money on a toy remote, your kids will know. It's like that with keys, too! LOL :)
We had Wyatt's 6 month wbv today. Here's his stats:
Weight - 17 lbs 14oz - 56th%tile
Length- 27" 70th %tile
head - 45 79th %tile
I'm positive that he was 18 lbs at our last visit-which wasn't a wbv, but the Dr said he was the same exact weight-it was only 2 weeks ago, but you'd think he would have gained a little bit. Oh well, not to worry-he hasn't been up to par with eating for a few weeks and it's not like he's lost weight or anything.
The Dr also said that I could feed him basically whatever-meat, etc. He said to just make sure not to give him actual pieces of stuff til he can handle it. I did cut some banana up real tiny for him over the weekend he enjoyed playing with that on his tray :rolleyes:. He doesn't have the pincer grasp yet, but did take a whole cookie from me and put it right in his mouth-it was too funny! He sucked it to mush and it fell on the floor (much to the delight of the dog!).
I can't think of anything else-Wyatt got up at 4:00 this morning and I couldn't really get him back to sleep, so I'm a bit fogged right now! It would help if I could STTN when he does it!!
mcgwiganWow- a 3 hour nap-I can only dream about that!
TGoodyGood to see you!
RosebudI've been thinking about that toy-a lot of the babies I know have it and love it! I just bought Rockabye Beatles-I love it-not sure what Julia thinks yet!!!! I really want the U2 one, but they did not have it at Borders-I'll have to order it.
RosebudGood luck with the traveling
PookiePrincessGlad daycare went better today!
EliezrahGlad the napping went better. I have a very hard time with the CIO-especially when she gets hysterical-I just get so worried that either 1) something is wrong or 2) she'll hate me for life so I give in and get her-no wonder I get no sleep!!!!
Remote ControlGlad to hear Julia is not the only baby who LOVES the remote control and she knows a fake from the real one. Oh today I was watching the Olympics and she grabbed the remote and started changing the channels until she got to Maury Povich and then she stared and was transfixed while some guy awaited DNA results to see if his girlfriend's kid was his!!!
SolidsThanks to everyone who made me feel better about the 1/4 banana. She ate some avocado yesterday. I also bought Gerber's banana puffs and broke it into 4 pieces and she ate probably a total of 4-which I was happy with. Of course then I realized I'm starting her off early on a junk food diet and maybe I shouldn't be so pleased!
Okay I better get to sleep since I'm sure she'll be up soon-although I can always hope that this is the night she drops a feeding!
Megan: Wow, a 3 hour nap?!! That's awesome! For some reason, Kassidy naps better at daycare. I can never get her take a nap longer than 30 minutes and today she took two 1 hour naps. Drives me crazy! Is there that much of a difference in growth charts between boys and girls? Kassidy was 17,2 and at 75%.
Tammie: That's funny about the remote! I never thought she'd mind the difference, but I know she likes ours because of the colorful buttons!
JBB: I can't do CIO either. She just gets more upset and I can't listen to her cry.
Kassidy has a cold. She got it from DH. He tried to blame it on her and say she picked it up at daycare, but he was sick before she was. Poor thing has a runny nose and a cough. She's actually been acting okay and hasn't run fever or anything. She didn't eat too well at daycare today though, I'll have to see how she does tomorrow.
Pookie I was confused by the growth chart- he's always been right about 70th percentile on everything. His weight stayed the same from 2 weeks ago and was now at 56th percentile...2 weeks ago it was 69th percentile. I have no idea if they use different charts for boys than girls-I should have asked for a printout-maybe the nurse can give me one when I go for his nurse visit in a couple weeks for a vaccination.
JBB Oooh puffs! I've been meaning to get some to try with Wyatt - I had read the container one time & it said they should be able to raise up on all 4s before giving them to them-I had no idea why & was talking to my SIL about it wondering if I just give them to him in his highchair, I didn't see why not, so I have to pick some up.
I'm a little bummed-I have to reschedule our photos that I had scheduled for saturday. DH made plans for DSS to go to IL's on Friday since his sitter needs the day off and spend the night and we'll pick him up Sat before his football game. So I'll have to reschedule about 2 weeks out :mad:. I ran around yesterday trying to find something for us all to wear-now I have 2 more weeks to dwell on it!:rolleyes: I'm really horrible at the whole coordinating thing so at least I've got some extra time!
Hope everyone is doing well!
Hey guys -
Wondering if anyone is doing sleep teaching or CIO yet?
We tried last night because oliver is waking every 2 hours to have his binky put back in.
Last night we waited for 15 minutes the first time and he just got louder and louder. We went in after 15 mnutes, i could tell he had a dirty diaper so I changed him. We gave him about 2 oz in a bottle and he took it and then rolled over and went right back to sleep. Same thing about 4 hours later, we let him cry for 20 minutes and then went in, gave him his binky and he rolled over, fell asleep. We did it a third time, cried for 20 minutes and same thing. Then the OTHER TWO times he woke up we just didn't let him even whimper and just gave him his binky. He rolled over and went back to sleep right away. We just got so exhausted by the end of it.
We had a few weeks of sleeping for 10 hours straight and now this. I gave him tylenol also at the first waking and it didn't seem to matter at all. I can't imagine it's teething. So that's why we decided to do the CIO in stages. It's really depriving us of sleep though so I don't know if we will continue. For me, waking and putting the binky back in provides me with hours more of sleep at night.
Any ideas/suggestions/thoughts????
Sashi Haven't done CIO, so I can't help with that...have you thought about trying to wean him from the binky? I think that Lisa has the same issues of having to get up to put Aaron's binky in his mouth and she was looking for help weaning from it. Wyatt never took a binky so I can't help with that either.
Wyatt would not drink his bottles today for the sitter - he drank 5oz in bottles all day. I nursed him on my lunch break, but I really don't know how much milk I have since we've only been nursing first thing in the morning and at night before bed for about 2 weeks now. He nursed 2 times after we got home, but I have a feeling that he'll be waking up tonight to eat. He wouldn't drink a bottle for me either. I'm hoping it's just because of his vaccination from yesterday & tomorrow will be a better day for him-I really don't want another bottle strike!
Quick drive by picture post!
Things are going well here. Food still hasn't been a big hit and I need to figure out what to give him to try next.
Here was food #1. Mashed up avacado. Notice the rookie mistake of not putting on a big or stripping him down...
Sashi- So sorry. We've been dealing with this also. Over here it's hit or miss every night though, so I haven't taken the steps toward thinking of sleep training yet. Last night he was up 3 times, once my DH did get up and give him his paci., the other two he eventually put himself back to sleep (he doesn't really cry over here though, it's more either whining or he's up and happy!). The previous 2 nights he STTN, but the previous week was awful. So, I don't know.. obviously, I have no advice. My older son never used a paci., so I don't know how to go about weaning from it and if I want to, quite honestly. Does Ollie just use his for sleeping? Drew never uses it during the day, just for naps/nighttime and doesn't always take it, so I know I *should* just get rid of it... but like you said, right now it's easier to just get up quickly and pop it back in than thinking about CIO. (or, at least it is for me!).
I dunno, did that even make sense? It's only 6:30 and like I said, I didn't sleep very well last night... ;)
Sparkle-Cute pictures, I'm sure he'll warm up to the food soon! Great comparison shot too, his legs look so long!!
MEgan-Sorry about the links, I can never post URL correctly in here.. I don't know why! I hope Wyatt takes his bottles today...
We spent all day yesterday at the zoo... Drew loved the deer forest, the deer walk right up to you, it's crazy. I am wiped today though!!
Brady I hope the sleep gets better for you soon!
Sashi Was sleeping any better last night?
I just had to post a couple comparison pictures of my own - these are the two that amaze me. I'm not sure how old he is here, but I'm sure it was within a week or 2 of when he was born:
http://images.photos.walmart.com/232323232%7Ffp43234%3Enu%3D3248%3E99%3B%3E%3B%3A2% 3EWSNRCG%3D3232%3B%3A%3A3%3B%3B%3B94nu0mrj
And at 6 months:
ETA: The sitter just called to let me know he has had 8oz so far today. I gave him some motrin this morning since he would still not take any bottles from me and was pretty miserable all morning from the time he got up at 4:30 until we left....of course, he's already on his second nap today (10 am)!
Sashi Haven't done CIO, so I can't help with that...have you thought about trying to wean him from the binky? I think that Lisa has the same issues of having to get up to put Aaron's binky in his mouth and she was looking for help weaning from it. Wyatt never took a binky so I can't help with that either. I actually don't plan on weaning him from it just yet, but it is on my list of questions to ask the ped at his WBV tomorrow. I just want to know when she thinks it needs to be gone, how I go about it, and when I start. Right now, though, he still needs it BIG TIME! But we have been having the same problem at night... when he wakes, all we have to do it plug up his mouth and he's fine! I did start trying to CIO before we left 2 days ago and it seemed to work, but then we were gone so we'll see how things go tonight.
Hi everyone!! We just got home about 45 mins ago and Jackie & I have to leave for a doc appt in about 2 more hours... We had a FABULOUS time at my parent's the last 3 days and yesterday took Aaron to his first amusement park, Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA. He had a nice day, too bad he couldn't go on more rides though! My cousin was there with his wife and 3 kids, including the brand new baby who made Aaron look like a huge monster!! (Baby is about 4 weeks old).
I'll catch up either later tonight or sometime tomorrow since I need to unpack. Aaron's WBV is tomorrow morning and I can't wait to see how big he is (remember my WiiFit said he was 19.6 lbs over a week ago!!!)
Lisa Glad you had a good time at your parents! Can't wait to hear Aaron's stats from his appointment.
S&S Just have to add that the one picture of Ethan cracks me up, looks like he's giving a thumbs up!
Wyatt was awake from 2-4 last night-wanting to nurse-ugh! He's been quite fussy since his shot (just 1-polio) on Tuesday. That's why he wouldn't take his bottles on Wednesday-I'm sure of it. He hadn't taken a bottle from me since Wednesday morning, so last night when he couldn't get back to sleep, I was thinking he was probably hungry, but wouldn't take a bottle-he just wanted to nurse! Anyway, I finally did get him to take a bottle from me this morning, I was getting worried for the weekend there-I definately do not have the supply to BF all weekend at this point!
If he's so fussy from a shot, I worry now about when he has his surgery to bring his testicle down-which will be sometime in November!
Hi everyone! Emma turned 6 months on Wednesday and did great at the doc yesterday -- she got 2 shots (with 5 vaccines!) and the oral Rota one, and slept ok except they just called from daycare that she's 99 point something (not really a fever, but they just wanted me to know).
Her stats (confirming her status as one of the smallest babies here!):
14 lbs 5 oz
26 inches
I need to start making an effort to give her solid food at home, because usually I'm busy with DS once I get home and don't bother, but the pedi said I should try for twice a day (they give it to her at daycare). She's rolling all over the place, so I stopped swaddling her. She can sort of sit up for a few seconds, more of a tripod pose. She basically just smiles all the time and grabs at anything she can get her hands on. I need to take her and get 6 month pictures soon!
She ADORES DS and thinks he's hysterical. She really cracks up at whatever he does. Do the other RO's find this? She'll also get really distracted by him -- if I'm feeding her and he's talking she'll stop to look for him.
Hope everyone has a great weekend! Oh, here's a picture from a few weeks ago when we went to a lake:
pgbg She's such a cutie! Yep, Wyatt loves his big brother and is very distracted by him - it actually has helped me to get him to eat solids sometimes though-he watches his big brother eat a bowl of cereal and he'll just sit there & chow the whole time he's watching his brother.
Not baby related, but exciting (OK-I am easily excited now that I don't get out!) Extreme Home Makeover is doing a house about 20 minutes from us & put out a desperate call for skilled carpenters to help. I was trying to get a hold of DH to tell him to go-I think it'd be cool. My sister saw Ty Pennington last weekend at the Hotel she works at. Anyway I probably shouldn't send DH because he'd probably go all weekend, but I still think it'd be a neat-o opportunity for him.
Eliezrah
Not feeling too well so I promise to try to catch up on SOs and updates sometime this weekend, but we had Aaron's WBV today....
My list for Aaron's 6 month WBV:
Is it ok that he's not rolling yet? He does turn about 90% of the way and kicks his legs, etc. The nurse practitioner said they don't worry about this until 8 months, plus she saw him up on all 4s and scoot backwards and stuff so she said he's fine.
HE'S SCOOTING BACKWARDS!!! He's also rotating in circles while on his belly
He SCREAMS while on his belly. Should we let him cry for a few mins before turning him over to get him more used to it and hopefully turn? He also spits up every time even if he didn't just eat. Can he have reflux? It's not reflux, it's just from the pressure on being on his belly. Keep giving him tummy time and he'll get more and more used to it.
When can we start him on meats? He's already on stage 2 foods (fruits and veggies, etc) He eats 3 full containers a day as well as nursing around 7 times per day No meats until 9 months old. We can give him meat 1 week before his 9 month WBV so we can tell them how he did with it. She was SHOCKED at how much he eats and still nurses as much as before solids! We can also start offering a sippy cup if we want.
The allergist feels the eczema on his chest is from drooling but wants us to keep an eye on it
We think he's allergic to pineapple
Aaron LOVES his binky and uses it to sleep and calm down still. At what age should we get rid of it? When do we start? How do we start? Jackie & Seth never took to a binky so it was never an issue. It should be gone by about 8 months. Now we should stop giving it to him during the day and only give it to him for naps and bed. By 8 months, just don't give it to him. He might need to CIO for a few nights but he needs to learn how to comfort himself by then. (My MIL disagrees! LOL)
Lately he stopped STTN and stopped putting himself back to sleep for nap. Can it be because of teething or his 6 month growth spurt? He slept GREAT for almost 2 months (since we started solids) and suddenly it stopped. What can we do to get him back to STTN and napping well? Give him a small "snack" before bed of cereal to help him feel full.
I think he has separation anxiety already. Can that be related to the not sleeping? I noticed he often cries when we leave the room and he never used to. I have to stay in until he falls asleep, even when he gets up at night. CIO doesn't really work either. I've tried for up to 10 mins and he gets hysterical and then needs to be calmed down. We can let him CIO for about 10-15 mins and if he freaks out and gets hysterical, go to him and calm him down. But I did tell her before we left this week, CIO started to work, but it was the day before we left and his naps were off today cuz of the appt so we'll see if we can CIO again starting tomorrow... this might also help with the binky situation.
Poor guy got 3 shots (DTap, Hib, PCV7) and the rotavirus oral vaccine. He weighed in at 19lbs 5 ozs (between the 75-90th % down from the 90-95th %), 27 inches long (75th %) and head is 14 3/4 (also 75th %)
Hi girls! Getting ready for Sophie's big 2 year old birthday tomorrow (WOW!) :eek: so I don't have lots of time to write ... but I had to pop in and talk about the paci.
Sophie still uses her paci. She's totally addicted to it. It's really the only things she "loves." She doesn't have a teddy bear or blanket or any other kind of lovey, so I don't mind her using the paci at night, nap time, or in the car. I had them totally stop letting her use it at school about 6 months ago and I only give it to her at home outside of what I said above if she is in extreme meltdown. With that said, a paci can be awesome but it's also a hard habit to break. Think tantrums!!! I'm thankful Tripp doesn't use it, but sometimes it would be nice if he did because I know he'd go back to sleep easier ... it's really a crutch for us ... so ....
for all you mommies that are using it to put your baby back to sleep, if you don't cut it off just be prepared to keep getting up multiple times a night to pop the paci back in. Honestly, we did that until Sophie was just about 16months or so. I thought I'd never get a full nights sleep and magically she just started sleeping through without needing the paci replaced constantly. With Tripp, I'm just not going to do that. He's already able to put himself to sleep better than she did.
Baby will have to CIO if you take the paci, but it won't be too terrible. I promise. I'd rather do it now than when the baby is 2. We did it with Sophie when she was 7 or 8 months old because she stopped going to sleep when we laid her down for the night and it was brutal the first 2 nights but after that she could go to sleep by herself when we put her down. It does work, although I know lots of moms don't want to do it. It's all in what you believe. Sophie cried non-stop 2 hours the first night, I kid you not. I thought I was going to die. The second night was about 45 mins and the third was 15 or so. I did go in and see her, but I didn't pick her up. It broke my heart. But she doesn't remember and she still loves me ... and after the first 2 nights I was happy because I had a baby that could go to sleep. Now, the 3,4,5 am wakings for the paci was a different story. I was too tired to try it, although I should have.
Good luck to you guys who are trying to wean of the paci.
OK now I have time to breath and type! LOL Hi everyone!!!!!!
I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but last night Aaron woke up at 2 and 4:30 and put himself back to sleep before I even got out of bed!!! We gave him his bedtime snack like the NP suggested so who knows.... He PIGGED out at dinner, ate a full stage 2 plus cereal and then his cereal for snack and still nursed 7 times yesterday!!! :eek::eek: I can't wait to see how his sleeping goes tonight, but it was the first night in over 2 weeks I didn't have to go to him until he wanted to eat at 5:45! Then after eating, I put him back in his crib around 6:10 and he played quietly in there until he fell asleep around 1/2 hour later... again w/o needing us or the binky!!!! YIPPEEE!!!
~~~~

Megan, I hear ya on seeing tiny newborns and forgetting our 6 month olds were that small not long ago! I saw my friend and her 4 week old at the doc's office yesterday and was amazed at how tiny he was!!! Congrats on the teeth!! Love the comparison pics! You look more awake and skinnier in the second one!! BTW, I've been through several surgeries with Jackie (she's been under a total of 4 times) and surgery with Seth as well. If you want to talk with someone who's been through it, let me know. Seth was 8 months when he had surgery on his penis and Jackie was 13, 14, 16 months and then 3 years. That's soo cool about Extreme Makeover!

JBB, she'll get used to eating, don't worry!! One day I'm sure she'll surprise you and be a piggy! LOL CIO is hard and it seems to get harder for me with each child, but it works wonders! For Jackie it worked in a day and before I went away this week it seemed to start working for Aaron in a day as well.

Tammie, yippeee for rolling!! Can he teach Aaron how?! LOL I can't believe the state ratio for infants at daycare by you is 6:1! WOW!!! I guess we're lucky in NJ that it's 4:1 since even that's hard!! Happy bday to Sophie!! What yo usaid about her and her binky is what I want to avoid with Aaron, so I'll be following the NP's advice about how and when to get rid of it. I'm going to start by not automatically putting it in his mouth just because he's in the crib and see how he does with that!

Kristi, how's it going at daycare ?

Brady, wow he has Aaron beat! LOL We do have some big babies in here, don't we?

Rosebud, how did it go on the plane?

Sashi, we tried taking the batteries out of an old remote for both Jackie & Seth and they seemed to know it wasn't the same! They both still went after the real one!! Aaron's now into trying to grab the phone!

Sparkle, LOVE the pics, especially the thumbs up one! LOL I can't get over the comparison shot either... WOW!

pgbg, Aaron also thinks Jackie & Seth are the funniest things around! They can be so rough with him and all he does is crack up hysterically! He'll also watch them play with a look on his face like he wants to join them. I love the pic!!

~~~~
Sleep training/ CIO: We, obviously, believe in CIO if it works (it never worked for Seth) since it's fairly quick and the baby won't remember it. Jackie was easy, just one time of letting her CIO for 15 mins and we never had to deal with it again. This week on Monday, I let Aaron CIO for about 10-15 mins while I showered and then I went in to clam him since he seemed hysterical and not just crying anymore. Later that afternoon, Scott tried CIO and he was asleep in 5 minutes w/o needing us to go in! Then we went away and his sleep was off for 3 days but he did great last night like I said. We'll see how it all goes today!!
With Seth, I had to "get tough" when he was 16 months old. He was so bad he would scram if we just carried him near his crib (it used to take almost 2 hours to get him to sleep in his crib!). I did a sort of cross between Ferber and CIO. It took about a week and I was EXHAUSTED that week, but it worked and he's been STTN ever since (for the most part!). I started by putting him in his crib and leaning over to hug and kiss him and rub his back, etc, but I never picked him up. I've tried similar tactics with Aaron; sitting on the floor by the crib with my hand sticking in and rubbing his belly. Then I'd sit and not rub his belly, then I'd go near the door, then I'd go out the door, then I'd close the door, etc. When I did this with Aaron a few weeks ago, it took about an hour or so. When I did it with Seth when he was 16 months old, it took a week. When I got tired of taking an hour to get Aaron to go to sleep each time he woke up, I tried CIO.
OMG I'm sooo excited!!!!!!!!!!! I just put Aaron in for his nap and I didn't give him the binky, just to see what would happen... He fussed, not cried, for less than 5 mins and is OUT COLD!!! He fell asleep on his own w/o the binky! WOOO HOOO!! I'll try it again for nap #3 later today!
QOTD: Is anyone on 2 naps a day yet or still on 3? Aaron is still taking 3 naps a day. I'm trying to stretch him to about 2 1/2 hours after waking instead of 2. The first nap is usually about 1 hr, 45 mins and the second can be anywhere from 1hr, 15 - 1 hr, 45 and the last one is usually barely an hour.
Biting Um yeah but it was probably when he was 4 months & he kept doing it! I had to push him to my breast, tell him firmly no biting and end the nursing session. I have no idea if he "got it" but it stopped & he hasn't bit since...hopefully he won't start again now he has teeth!!:eek:
Lisa That's great that Aaron was able to get him self back to sleep before you had to go in! Awesome about the nap!
tgoody Have fun with Sophie's party!
I went grocery shopping this morning and left Wyatt home with DH-they were both sleeping. Well, wyatt ended up waking from his nap at 8:15 ( I left the house at 7:45) and DH said nothing he did would make him happy-Wyatt wouldn't take a bottle from him or anything. Anyways, DH finally got him to take a bottle at 9:30 when I was on my way home-I'm glad I left them like that though, because DH always complains that Wyatt won't take a bottle from him-hopefully this is a break through.
Naps We are at 2 OR 3 naps/day. Sometimes he'll take 2 about 2 hours each. If the first nap is only 30 min to an hour then he most likely will take 3 naps that day.
We just got home from being gone all day-Wyatt was barely able to sleep at all! Poor thing cried all.the.way.home (45minutes) and made himself throw-up from it!:eek: I'm trying to get together with my brother tomorrow, bo it will be away all afternoon-I may see if they can come here instead!
Lisa: Good luck with getting rid of the binky...that's awesome that he put himself back to sleep!
Tammie: I think Kassidy's going to be the same way with her thumb. She's totally addicted to it, I hope it's not something I have to figure out how to break her of when she's two! Hope Sophie's birthday was great!!!
pgbg: She is on the smaller side! So she still fits in 3-6 month clothes, huh? That seems crazy to me!
Megan: DD won't usually let DH give her a bottle either. Though, most of the time it's because DH doesn't have the patience to give her one (if she doesn't take it easily, he assumes she's not hungry!). Poor Wyatt. Hopefully you can stay home tomorrow so he can nap and relax!
Daycare: It's been awesome! She's adjusted well. I knew it would take some time and by Wednesday when I went to get her the afternoon teacher said the old Kassidy was back. She's been so happy and smiley at daycare, which makes me feel great that she's having such a good time.
Naps: She still cat naps for the most part. She actually naps better at daycare and the other day she actually took 2 one hour naps! I was shocked! She still takes 3 or more naps a day because most of them are 30 minutes long.
Biting: Not much here. She went through a phase a couple of weeks ago of pulling real bad, but no actual biting. She doesn't have teeth yet though.
Food: I tried the sweet potatoes tonight. I made it myself...it was so easy!! I had originally planned to start solids right at 6 months, but with all the change lately, I wanted to wait for her to adjust a bit. She only ate a little bit, but it was an experience! I'll try again tomorrow.
Last night was bad but Aaron has his first real bad cold and couldn't breathe through his nose, poor guy... But he did CIO for nap this morning w/o a binky and it only took him 5 mins, so that's good! I'm trying to get him to go to 2 1/2 hours between naps instead of 2 and it seems to be working so far *knock wood.* At least the CIO seems to be working!
I'm so sad... on Monday I found a baby cottontail bunny in our yard scooting out of his nest. He was so adorable and didn't even have his eyes open yet. We were looking for him almost every day to make sure no other animals found him and didn't see anything so we figured his mommy put him back in his nest. Well Scott went to mow yesterday and found him about 5 feet from the nest.... :(:(:( All morning we see the mommy bunny sitting on the spot where we found his body. She knows he's gone but doesn't seem to know where he went. I feel so bad, but we had to move the baby's body before Scott mowed. :(:(
~~~~

Megan, poor Wyatt yesterday. I hope you can get your brother to go to you today so Wyatt can sleep in his own bed today.

Kristi, I'm glad daycare is better!!!!

~~~~
Making potatoes: How do you do it? I'm thinking of buying a few yams for Aaron. He likes his food thick so we were thinking of trying to mash it ourselves and let him play around with it himself. Do I just bake it in the microwave until really soft and then take it out of the skin?
Brady
Lisa-That is SO sad about the bunny!! :( You are brave to start paci weaning already! I'm torn on it. My older son gave it up on his own early on (by 4 months, I think).. so this is new to me. Drew really only takes it sporadically, I never usually carry one with me when we go out or even have one in his carseat. He usually doesn't take it for naps, but sometimes uses it at night. lol, got all that? :) Sooo... I think I *could* wean him from it relatively easily, but I'm not sure if I want to yet. On nights he does have trouble getting himself to sleep (I usually do not give it to him when I lay him down), he will actually scoot over to it in the crib and pop it in his mouth himself and get himself to sleep without any intervention from us. So, for now I'm not going to try to wean him of it for sleeping. He puts himself to sleep really well, so I don't want to mess with it right now. Anywho- good luck with Aaron!
Naps- We are still on 3 for the most part here. Usually they are around 8ish, noonish and 3-4ish. I'm a bit stressed with preschool for my older son starting next month. He has to be at school at 9am- so, it's going to be tricky those two days a week as usually at 9, Drew is asleep or ready to go to sleep. I would hate to have to wake him for the 2 minute drive to school and back, but what other option do I have?
Eliezrah
Adorable pics, Brady!! I'm a bit nervous about weaning from the binky, but I feel, pretty strongly, that it should be gone by a year at the latest, and I know the earlier it's done the easier it'll be. Neither Jackie nor Seth really took one so by 5-6 months we just stopped offering. Aaron has several in the crib and we had on the playmat/ in the swing, in the car seat and in the diaper bag. We were binky heaven!!! LOL I hear ya with getting out for school. We have to leave at 8:15 and since our school is about 20 mins away and I'll be walking Sethy in, I won't get home until at least 9:30. Aaron doesn't transfer so if he falls asleep in the car, he'll wake up when I get him out. That's part of why I'm trying to get him to be able to stay up for longer periods between naps.
Brady
08-24-2008, 07:16 AM
I know, the nap thing is so tricky with other kids, isn't it? Drew's wake up time is so unpredictible which makes it hard to figure out any sort of a schedule. If I knew he'd wake up every AM at say, 7am.. then I could try the same thing, keeping him up 2.5-3 hours before nap. The ride to school is literally 2 minutes from my house, so the key is just making sure he stays awake as I also have to walk Connor in. I guess I'll have to just see how it goes the first couple of weeks and try to make adjustments from there. How often/long does Seth go? Connor will just be doing two days, 2.5 hours each.
Eliezrah
08-24-2008, 07:31 AM
I know what you mean... with Jackie I planned my entire day around her naps and now with #3, he has to go around their schedules! LOL Jackie & Seth are going to the same school for full days since the half days are only 2 1/2 hours. With us being about 20 mins away, by the time I get home I'd barely have time with Aaron so they are going from 8:45 - 3:15. Jackie will be going T, W, Th and Seth T, Th.
Lisa: I baked it in the oven for a couple of hours, until it was soft. You could do the microwave, I just never have luck with potatoes in the microwave. Then I took the skin off, cut it up into smaller chunks and put it in my food processor (and added an ounce or two of breastmilk). If he's used to thicker foods, you could totally mash it up a bit with a fork and give it to him.
Lisa I boiled my sweet potatoes-I ruin everything in the microwave-sweet potatoes included! Good luck with the binky-weaning! My co-worker was going to cut them off, he DS is over 1 and has one in his mouth constantly! Poor bunny! Want me to send you some? We literally have hundreds! I used to walk in the woods behind our house-DH had mowed some trails-and in the morning you would see all these bunnies hopping all over the place. It's pretty funny!
Brady Nice pics- what was Drew eating? I'm glad Wyatt still doesn't move anywhere yet, so he can't get into anything. I can put him on a blanket & he'll still be in the same spot 20 minutes later.
Pookie Glad daycare is going well! Glad she likes the sweet potatoes!
We ended up going to meet my brother at the park as planned today. Haardly any naps for Wyatt again, but he wasn't so bad in the car this time. I am such a horrible mommy though-I packed up all this stuff to take for everyone and made sure his diaper bag was stocked. When we got there, I realized that I only had enough formula with me for 8 oz :eek:. Whoops!! He had a 7oz bottle right before we left at noon and so I just gave him 2 4 oz bottles while we were there and about 1/2 of a bannana. We got home around 6:30 so that wasn't too bad, but still...I couldn't believe I did that.:rolleyes:
When I got home I had to make a cake to take to work tomorrow & made one for home-I don't especially care for it, so that's my lesson for making something differen! oh well! HOpe everyone had a good weekend!
Brady
Megan-I believe that was either sweet potatoes or squash. ;) Something in the orange family.. lol. And, I've been there with the formula issue as well. Once I just borrowed some from my friend, it was Similac (I use Enfamil).. thankfully, he took it! I seem to forget something in my diaper bag every single time I go out. They sell at BRU a formula sorter type of container. I had one with my younger son and really need to find it , but you can put 3-4 servings of formula in each compartment and then just pour it out as needed.
We are up early here. Thankfully Drew slept through the night, but was up early as he was soaked again! Every single morning for the past week or so he has soaked through his diaper. When it first started I moved him from size 3 to 4 and that did the trick for a week or so, but now he is soaking through the size 4 Pampers Cruisers. I'm guessing I should try another brand at this point, but I hate buying diapers in those big packs and just blindly hoping they work. Anyone have any suggestions for good overnight diapers? He never leaks out during the day...
ETA- Megan- here is a picture of what I was talking about. It's called the "Powder Formula Dispenser & Snack Cup"
Brady I've had good luck with the diaper doublers. They're really cheap too-they look like a maxi-pad that you just put in the diaper at night. I think they were about $3.50 for a package of 30! I do have to get a formula container like that! I had bought a box of the enfamil that is in 4oz servings to have in my bag just in case. We were out & about so much this weekend that I just forgot to throw more in the bag before we left yesterday.
Brady I couldn't find them at my Walmart & found them at Wegman's (grocery store) instead. All the Walmarts carry different stuff-I went to the one by my IL's house last weekend for diapers and they don't sell Luvs at that store. :eek: I had to still had to go to the super Walmart near where I work for them-it's so hard to run in & out of that store!
Hey Ladies -
What a weekend. Oliver definitely has a tooth coming through. His poor gum is so swollen and literally hanging down. If it doesn't pop through in a day or so I'm seriously considering visiting the ped. The gum looks funny. It looks like the tooth is coming down with the gum still wrapped around it. He's in pain. I called th Ped on Friday about his sleeping problems (still waking all the time for the binky and now he's hungry again). She said he's not hungry, stop feeding him and stop giving him the binky. Well with this tooth thing, it's just not possible. It really makes his gums feel better. Poor baby.
I made a 'glow in the dark purree' this weekend. It was really easy.
2 tblspns of unsalted butter in a saute pan with a small sliced onion. Cook until onions are soft. Add 1 lb of peeled cut carrots and saute for 3-4 minutes. Add 1 1/2 cups of veggie or chicken stock (I just bought organic stock, the book wanted me to make my own). Bring to a boil and then let simmer for 20 minutes. Poor into processor, add 1/4 cup of orange juice and purree.
It smells sooo good and he seems to really like it. They say it's glow in the dark becase beta carretine makes you see better in the dark.
I must say, peaches appear to be his least favorite but he loved it mixed with yogurt.
Pookie - I'm glad to see you liked making the sweet potatoes.
mcGwigan - I might have to try those diaper doublers too! Thanks for the tip.
Brady - Drew is such a cutie!!!!
Lisa - Good luck with the sweet potatoes! Wouldn't it be lovely if all 3 kids napped at the same time! Ahhhhhh
Overnight Diapers
We've had big success with Huggies Overnight diapers. We still use them with our 2 year old and they've started making them in a size 3 so we use them with the twins too and have never had a leak since we started. The only place I can find the size threes though is at diapers. com
Sorry I haven't been around. I promise to get in here and do some shout outs.
I have a quick question...
Humidifiers ~ does anyone have any recommendations for one? I have one but hate it because it uses a special filter that I need to order online since they no longer sell my humidifier. I'm looking for something simple and not terrible expensive.
mcgwigan
DelSol Sorry no ideas-I don't like the one I have either! I have to look see if I can find a filter for mine too! How do you cut down on the humidifier "dust"? I know there's something to add to the water-but what is it?
The other question I have is regarding Solids-I know that some have been feeding them and some are just starting. Do you feed your baby solids until they don't want anymore? I usually give Wyatt solids only after he drinks a whole bottle. I'll wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour then give him solids. Last night he ate 1/2 of a bannana immediately after a full 7oz bottle. I know that I was a bit short on the feedings yesterday, but I have never seen him turn down any solids I give him-it's like he'll just keep eating forever. I'm sure he could probably eat a full stage 1 jar of food at once-I usually mix it with oatmeal so it lasts me more than a feeding if I use a jar. He'll eat 3 cubes of sweet potatoes and still eat more! I just don't want to over-feed him! Can this even be done though?
I'm not sure how to cut down on the dust.
Re: Solids. I usually wait about 2 hours after a bottle to give her any solids. If I give it to her right after the bottle, she's getting sick. Addison only gets 2 solid food a day (usually fruit in the AM and veggie/dinner in the PM) and one cereal (6 teaspoons) at night. I'm sure by now I can bump her up to more solids.
Everything I read says they will stop when they are full. I have never seen it happen with Addison, I think she'd eat all that I would give/could give her and then get sick.
What does 3 cubes equal out to be? Each jar ranges from 2.5 ounces (Stage 1) to 4 ounces (Stage 2).
Better run, boss just got back from lunch!
LOL! I use ice cube trays! I think that when I first made the food I measured a cube to be 3 TBLSP, but I was using water-maybe solid stuff is more-I think it looks like about 1/4 cup or so when I put it in a dish. I really should be better about measuring! I have been measuring 2TBLSP of cereal out when I give it to him and then mix in about an equal amount of fruit or veggie-he seems to like it all!
Overnight Diapers - We've had pretty good luck with Pampers Baby Dry. We use those at night and Cruisers during the day. We've recently had some issues with leaking at night, but only on the nights that Tripp wakes up to eat and poops right when he wakes up. If he doesn't do the combination, then there are no issues. We used these with DD as well when she started leaking out at night.
Food - Geez! Seems like all the babies are doing so well with the eating. Tripp could really care less about solids. We took a week off and tried again yesterday. We are giving him prunes. He seems to think they are ok and ate about a half a container yesterday and today. I didn't make them because I got so confused about whether to use plums or prunes that I gave up and bought the prunes. Hopefully he'll start liking solids since he's 6 months and I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to start feeding him 2x per day. So far he has had avocado, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, pears, and prunes.
Sashi - Wow! That's like a meal that you made for Ollie. Pretty cool! I wouldn't have known you could cook something with butter in it, so thanks for letting me know that. How many teeth does Ollie have now? Poor little guy. Does motrin help? That helped DD much more than Tylenol. You can give it at 6 months.
Dana - I have a Vicks humidifier. I think it was like $30 at Target. Nothing fancy. It does have a filter, but I just buy the generic replacement that's also available at Target.
Pgbg – Aw, Emma is still the petite little girl of the bunch. Too sweet! She’s as adorable as can be. I love it. Tripp is the same way with Sophie now. He loves her. If he’s crying and I can’t seem to get him to stop, I call Sophie over and tell her to make him laugh. She starts making faces at him and he just literally cracks up. It’s too cute. I love it! Oh, and he’s so distracted at feeding time now. He eats a lot better at home when I feed him in his room than when I feed him with Sophie around or when he’s at school. Our kiddos are becoming so much more observant so I guess that’s why!
Lisa – Thanks for Sophie’s birthday wish! Who is next for you, Sethy? Oh! I think I said Tripp can roll but doesn’t. He rolls to his side and stomach but not from tummy to back although he can. I love it when it’s 2 am and he wants to roll back but decides he can’t. I’m sure he just wants to see my smiling face LOL. Now that Tripp sits, he has not need or want to roll. That’s exactly how Sophie was. They sat so well so early that I think they skipped rolling. Sounds like Aaron is exactly the same. He was the first sitter in this group after all (I think). I baked my potatoes in the oven then mashed them up with a fork and added BM. Easy enough. I always think they get screwed up in the microwave, but that is how DH makes them.
McWigan – Thanks for the birthday wishes for Sophie. She had a great day! OMG! That is too funny about the formula. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve left at home, including milk, diapers, well basically my entire diaper bag ... many times. LOL You are not in the minority, I can tell you that!
Kristi – Thank you, too, for Sophie’s birthday wish. I was thinking when I had Tripp that it would be crazy when she turned 2 because that would mean he would be 6 months old. And here we are! Crazy crazy. That’s great that Kassidy is doing so well at school. At Sophie’s party, you could tell the daycare kids from the SAH kids. Not to say one is better than the other, but the majority of the SAH kids were afraid to get on the TumbleBus and missed out on the fun, while the daycare kids played and tumbled like there was nothing to it. It was interesting to see. That’s why I’m glad Sophie & Tripp go to school and get the socialization. You’ll be glad in the end, too! Awesome about the potatoes. Post some pics!
Brady – Those pictures are just too cute! I swear, Drew always has the most precious smile on his face. I love it! Breathe deep, Connor is going to love school and you’ll enjoy the break and the alone time you get with precious little Drew. I’m going to be in Boston on 9/20. My college, UCF, is playing BC so DH and I are going up for the game. Can’t wait! BTW, if Drew can get his own binky, you don’t have to worry about weaning. Just give it to him in the crib. I wish Sophie would get her own binky. When she wakes up without it she’s in such a daze that when we go in there she is sitting up, crying, but asleep. It’s crazy! We pop it back in and she falls over like a tower. It’s crazy. Drew is so self sufficient (for lack of a better word) for such a little dude!
Lisa & Brady – I hear you on the nap thing. I also planned my day around naps for Sophie when I realized how important it was to have a schedule. But it’s hard to do that for Tripp. I don’t want to keep Sophie all cooped up in the house while he tries to nap. It’s also hard to get him to sleep with her running around yelling and playing. It may be a little easier for you guys in that department with older kids, not sure. It’s getting a tad bit easier here, just a tad bit but that is something! I felt so bad, because he finally took a nap without crying in his crib on Sat morning. Of course, I had to wake him up 30 mins later to leave for Sophie’s party. I felt like a terrible mom!
tgoody I bought the jarred prunes also. I've only made things that are super easy-apples, squash & sweet potatoes. I tried making green beans, but they didn't come out smooth enough & he gagged. :rolleyes: I've really only been giving Wyatt about 1/3 to 1/2 stage 1 jar along with about 2 tblsp of cereal. I'm trying to see about stepping it up, or at least getting 2 feedings in a day.
ETA: Oh-we tried peas tonight & he really seemed to like them! Yay! DH & DS don't like them so I don't make them much-I'm hoping Wyatt will be my partner to eat all the foods they won't!
Whew! I've finally gotten my house under control! I was so unorganized this morning because it seemed like we were out & about all weekend so I didn't get my usual stuff done. I was in an SOS situation with laundry and things laying around in general. I feel much better now that I have a handle on everything! I've been tossing the idea of going to a 4 day work week around in my head. I only work a 35 hour week and I think they consider 27 hours full time (benefit -wise). I just don't know that I would want to work a longer day all the time! I sure could use an extra day at home though!
Tammie: I hate that I can't stay home with her everyday, but I know that daycare is good for her. I've seen exactly what you're talking about with regard to socialization with a friend's son. He stays at home with a nanny everyday and every time we see him he's a clinging mess. The others around him that are his age go to daycare and aren't nearly as bad. I'll have to post some pics. I'll take some tomorrow of her spitting them right back out!
Humidifier dust: Mine doesn't leave it, I think because it's an invisible cool mist? It's a Vicks brand, we got it at BRU but Target and Walmart sell all the stuff that goes with it.
Solids: I spoke too soon. I gave her the sweet potatoes Saturday and have tried everyday since then to give her some and she just sticks her tongue out and spits it right back out. I try a few times because I'm sure eventually she'll get it, but then I'm done. I'm not stressed about her eating, I know it'll come when she's ready!
Today was the first day of school and it went well. I remember other years being much crazier than today was, so hopefully that's an indication of a great year to come, though I don't know how I'll top last year (since there was so much excitement and my class was great!).
ETA: My child took too long of a nap this evening and now she won't go to sleep! I can hear her kicking in her crib!
Tripp is 6 months old today! Crazy! In honor of his "birthday", I'm posting a ton of pics. We had his 6 month pictures right before these and he looked so cute that I just plopped him down in the backyard and took pics myself. He's super tired, but still cute! I think I forgot to mention it, but I cut 13 inches of hair off about 2 weeks ago. I donated it to Locks of Love. I did it with Sophie as well. See picture below to see how short it is now. There is also one of little Ms. Sophie at her 2nd birthday party. Enjoy! :)
Hey ladies -
Quick question for you all - Are the front teeth on the top usually the first teeth to come through on the top? I ask because it seems like we finally have a cut tooth! It's not the middle teeth, it's the second tooth on the right. Wierd huh? I just thought the middle two were always first. He slept from 7pm - 5:45am today, YAY! He got up for a binky only at 10pm and 11:45pm. YAY! We got some much needed sleep. I think maybe his growth spurt is slowing itself down as well ormaybe there wasn't one and the food was just helping him deal with the new teeth?
Tgoody3 - The pictures are sooo great! Wow, 13"!!! At first when I read it I thought you meant of Tripp's hair!!! I was so confused. Don't mind me, it's still too early in the am. Almost all of my 'recipes' for purree's include unsalted butter. Especially carrots. The butter brings out the fat in the beta-caroteine apparently. My MIL was SOOOOOO not thinking that was a good idea because butter at such a young age gives this perception that food is sweeter or something than it really is. He likes it, the purree's always come out right. That recipe I just wrote out is really good, i could eat it! It smells delicious! I bought prunes too, BTW, and Oliver loves them!!!!! There is a recipe for them in the book, i'll post it tonight or tomorrow.
Pookie - I'm sorry about the sweet potatoes. Keep trying a little every day and she'll eventually get the hang of it. This is only the beginning of the stubborness for all of us!! haha Congrats on a good start to the school year. You guys start early! Here in Philly we don't start until after labor day. Of course the poor kids are stuck in a classroom with no air conditioning until middle of June because of it but they still haven't changed it.
Mcgwigan - I've been giving Oliver 3oz's of food at the most at one time (usually dinner). He eats it all. I just also recently started giving him 2oz of what i made (veggies) and approx. 1oz of a fruit (organic jar).
Delsol - HAHAHA! Addison and Oliver sound very similar. I think Oliver would eat until he exploded!!!!
tgoody I love the pictures of Tripp-he's such a cute chub-chub!!:D That's great that you were able to grow your hair that long & donate it! My hair won't grow that long, but my sister's does & she donates her from time to time. I think it's a great thing!
Sashi I think that some people wait on the butter because of the milk issue. I thought that the front teeth usually came in before the side teeth, but I really don't know for certain. Yay for the great sleep!!
Pookie Wyatt would do that with the food & like you, I didn't press it, just kept trying. He has finally "gotten" it and is now excited to eat & gets upset if I have him in his highchair too long without feeding him. You could experiment with the thickness-Wyatt seemed to like things slighty thicker than the puree that you buy, so I make oatmeal kind of think and add in a puree to the right consistancy.
I'm so proud of myself because I actually was able to get some oatmeal & bannanas into Wyatt this morning before we left the house. I've been trying to feed him some solids in the mornings, but more times than not, I end up running late. I also got dinner going in the crockpot-so I'm extra proud!:)
Tammie-Those pictures of Tripp are TOO cute. Love the cheeks!!! Adorable onesie and Happy 2nd Birthday to Sophie! Have a great trip to Boston! Wow about your hair, it looks great in that picture with Tripp.
Megan- Good for you on your time management this AM! I'm home all day and usually never have dinner prepared, lol.. I have no excuses (except for laziness!)! What did you make in the crockpot? I tend to only pull mine out for chili, I never actually "cook" in it.
Sashi- Not sure about the teeth, I think technically yes, the middle ones usually come in first, but with everything else, every kid will do his own thing... Drew would also eat until he exploded if I let him.
Food- I never really measure it, so I am not sure on the exacts.. but Drew gets oatmeal for breakfast (I'd guess it at about 2-3TBPS), and then half of a stage 1 fruit mixed with it. Somedays I give him some veggies for lunch if we are out to eat or something and he wants to be included, but mostly I just do breakfast and dinner right now.. at dinner he gets about 1/2-3/4 of a stage 2 veggie and sometimes the other half of the fruit from breakfast if he still seems hungry. (I can't even remember what the original question was now.. lol).
Well, as for the diaper situation.. I went to Walmart last night, and like AmyChris said, I couldn't find the size 3 Huggies Overnights (what's with that?? weird). So, I bought the size 4's. I didn't see the diaper liners that Megan had mentioned. I was hopeful with the Huggies Overnights, but turns out last night was not a good test as Drew woke up two times, and finally the 2nd time I fed him.. and lo and behold he was wet when he then woke up for the day. SIGH. So, it wasn't a good test as he had 4 oz's more than he he normally would have, and my fault for not changing him before I fed him in the middle of the night! ;) Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll try the Huggies again tonight.
Brady I'm trying to do the crockpot thing more to get DSS off to football practice with dinner in him first! Today I made pulled pork with rootbeer sauce. It sounds pretty yummy, but I'll let you know! Good luck with the overnight diapers tonight! I don't blame you for not changing him-I don't or at least try not to in the middle of the night!
(I can't even remember what the original question was now.. lol). ha, ha!:) I was wondering if anybody's babies were telling them they were full, or if they'd just eat & eat. Wyatt's never turned a spoon of food down - well, now that he's gotten the hang of eating anyways!
I wish I had more time to keep up with all of you!!
I wanted to chime in on the diaper discussion. If you are having trouble finding diapers in your area I highly recommend diapers.com. They have a great selection and it's FAST! I get my orders in 1-2 days of ordering. They have Huggies overnight in size 3. Unfortunately the Huggies overnights didn't work for us. I actually resorted to using gDiaper inserts in size 4 Cruisers and it works like a charm (Leo is a very heavy wetter at night). It's not the cheapest solution but as we all know a good nights sleep is priceless! Let me know if you want to use diapers.com, I think if I refer you we both get $10 off the first shipment!
Leo is not a fan of solids. He takes a few bites but then refuses to eat more. We have tried rice cereal, sweet potatoes, apples, and bananas both organic jars and homemade...no dice. On the other hand he LOVES his spoon.
I'll try to get back later for some SOs.
Sashi My brother's first tooth was on the top to the side of his front teeth, so it's possible! I'm actually wondering if Michael will be like this because he's got two little swollen spots on the side as well.
Can I tell you how shocked I am right now... Aaron is wearing one of Seth's old 12 month sized onsies AND IT FITS HIM!!!!! He wore a pair of Seth's old 12 month jammies last night as well.... My 6 month old cna fit into 12 month size clothes?! :eek::eek: I don't think all of the 12 month stuff fits him yet but enough of it does!!
So Jackie is at Camp Grammie this week and we're (Scott too) meeting them at Sesame Place on Friday and will spend the weekend at my parent's. I took Seth to the school today to talk to his teacher about his allergies and everyone there hadn't seen Aaron since June. They were shocked, to say the least, at how big he got!!
~~~

Megan, thanks for the offer, but no bunnies for us! LOL From what I see there are plenty more living in the front and back yard that I'm sure this won't be the last baby we get.

Brady, I used to use one of those formula things with Jackie and loved it! It definitely made it easy to never be w/o formula. I'd keep it in the diaper bag along with wipes and diapers.

Sashi, so did that tooth pop through yet? It's fairly normal for it to look almost like the tooth is there but with the gum around it. I think about half of Seth's teeth came in that way. It should cut soon if it didn't already. My BIL suggested to us to put a spare binky in the freezer so if Aaron's teeth really hurt he can suck on a cold one. Typically the bottom middle are the first teeth to cut but I've heard of others coming in first.

Dana, I think we used to have a Vicks Humidifier that we liked.

Tammie, so how was Sophie's bday? Yuppers, Sethy will be 3 on Sept 30 and I can't believe it!!! Still no rolling for Aaron, but good memory at his sitting early. I think it was around 3 months that he started doing the tripod, and he sits perfectly upright and for long periods of time now. Interesting what you said about the SAH kids vs the daycare ones since that never described Seth or Jackie. But they have both been going to Gymboree and then Little Gym class since they were only a few months old and also both had play dates even as babies. And you are NOT a terrible mom!! Happy 6 months Tripp!!! Good for you for donating your hair, wow 13 inches!!! Your pics are all fabulous and you look great too!

Kristi, good to hear school went well. As for her spitting out the sweet potatoes, maybe try what we did with Aaron with carrots and green beans... We mixed up cereal that we already knew he liked with a tiny baby spoonful of the food he didn't like so it barely had a taste to it. Each day we'd add a bit more of the "offending" food until he got to eating it straight up about a week later.

~~~
Teething tips: In case anyone's interested, we used Hylands Teething Tablets for Seth (before we knew they had milk protein in them) and they worked like a charm! I was apprehensive about using them with Jackie since the medical community doesn't recommend them (they also don't say not to use them) and there's caffeine and belladonna in them. But I caved with Seth and they seemed to work almost as quickly as Orajel w/o them getting that horrible numbing feeling and seem to last almost as long as Tylenol w/o having to wait for it to work.
Overnight diapers: We used to use Huggies Overnights like Amy and loved them!
Solids: At this age they can't over eat. We usually feed him until he shows signs of not wanting more. Aaron is such a piggy that it doesn't matter if he nurses first or after. Aaron definitely has turned down both solids and boob if he doesn't want (then lets me know usually about 15 mins later that he wants! LOL)
Lisa Wow! I've got 12 month sizes hanging in the closet that I found on clearance-he won't be able to wear them for a while. Aaron's a big boy-he may just catch up to Sethie one day! LOL!!
So, I usually never do this, but I am playing hookie from work today! I also took DSS & DS to the baby sitter's so that I can get some stuff done! I feel more guilt about that than calling in to work! OK-off to get some stuff done so I can get my baby back!!
WE HAVE A 3rd TOOTH! It came through yesterday morning. It's the left lateral incisor on top (the 2nd tooth from the middle). It appears as though he's still working on the other 3 up top though. He's sooooooo miserable the two days leading up to the tooth actually coming through. What it did was come down with the gum wrapped around it and then goes back up and the tooth pops through. He's a happy baby again! That all happened within 24 hours of the tooth coming in.
We are going to NYC with friends on Saturday to see a show at 2pm and out to dinner. My dad and his girlfriend are watching him. I hope all goes well and he acts ok. I love him so much. He also pulled up yesterday on a piece of furniture at daycare! He's growing up too quickly!!! Time to move the mattress down in the crib. Poo...makes me sad.
LaMer- send me a PM with whatever info I need for diapers.com to use you as a referral.
This AM was Drew's first time waking up dry in weeks! That was with the Huggies Overnight and no overnight feeding- so, hooray!! Let's hope it wasn't a fluke.
Drew is getting faster and faster with his crawling. It is frightening!! Yesterday I put him in the living room and ran down the hall to get something out of his brother's room, when I came out of his room, Drew was halfway down the hall trying to get to me. I am so not ready for this!! ;) I need to get gates up and dig out the pack and play to put him in when I leave a room now... it's just crazy how fast he picked it up. He also now is not as content to hang out in his stroller or Bjorn when we are out at a park with his brother, he is trying to get out of my arms, or trying to get out of the stroller... he just wants to go, go, go!
Sashi- Wow about the teeth! We still have none over here.
Lisa-Isn't it crazy? Drew is also wearing a 12 month onesie today, and has a couple of sleepers in 12 months. I find different brands are so off with sizing. One will be a 9 month, up to 18lbs and then another brand you'll find goes up to 20lbs. I wish things were more standard. I had just picked up some 9 month sleepers on consignment and didn't read the weight until I got home (up to 17.5lbs!?), needless to say- he can't even wear them!
It's amazing how all our little ones are developing so differently. We've got crawlers, teeth, pulling up, eating lots and lots of foods. It's just so funny to me how different they all are yet they were all bornw ithin a month of each other.
Dana - That picture of Addison in the Sleeping thread is HYSTERICAL! i LOVE IT!
Brady - Watch out, you got a crawler........wow, he's on the move! I can't wait to see pics of it! Your LJ post was great, I LOL! Connor is adorable.
Brady Check your inbox. We are right behind you in the crawling department, Leo officially started crawling today :eek:. We are so not ready either. Looks like we will be spending the holiday weekend babyproofing.
Sashi Wow a 3rd tooth! Sounds like it made a dramatic entry, I'm glad Ollie is feeling better. That recipe you posted sounds great, I'll have to remember that for later. I still can't get over how fast these little guys learn new tricks, it's hard to stay one step ahead of them sometimes.
mcgwigan It's great that Wyatt likes all of mom's home cooking! Good for you for taking some time for yourself. Enjoy your day!
Tgoody Those pics of Tripp and Sophie are absolutely adorable. Sorry I missed the official day but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sophie. Don't worry Tripp isn't the only kid that doesn't like food. We might have had a small breakthough with Oatmeal last night, but if anything all these solids are making him love the boob more!
Kristi I'm glad the school year got off to a good start. My mom (who is a retired 3rd grade teacher) would always comment on how young the kids seemed on the first day of school since they were closer to 2nd grade than 4th (KWIM?). I really appreciate hearing how well Kassidy is doing in daycare, I'm getting a little apprehensive about sending Leo but your stories are reassuring!
Lisa Am I remembering correctly that Aaron was 19 lbs 6 oz at his 6 month? Leo is about that size and can aslo wear some 12 month clothes, it's crazy!
Sorry if I missed anyone.
So it's official Leo is crawling! AAACK. We are so not prepared, we have computer cables everywhere, no gate on the stairs, etc. Fortunately he can't go too fast, yet, but we have to get our act together soon!
Today I'm taking him to JCPenny for his 6 month portraits. I can't wait! Now I just have to get off the computer and pick out an outfit.....
mcgwigan
La_Mer Wow-crawling! I'm sure it won't be long before he's going fast like Drew!;) How did the portraits go?
Brady Wow-I didn't realize that Drew had started crawling! Whoo-hoo! It's funny that you said Drew wants to get out of your arms-Wyatt does the same thing, but he can't crawl yet! So once he's down, he gets frustrated if something (everything) he wants is out of his reach!
Sashi Wow-a third tooth. Poor Ollie- I hope that the others come through fast for him! Did you try the Motrin for him? Oh, and I also love that picture of Addison!
I'm thinking that Wyatt is either 1) gearing up to start crawling or 2) teething again (top teeth). He's been waking up at night the past 2 nights at 3:30 am and not being able to go back to sleep, he has also been having a hard time staying asleep for his naps. Everytime I put him in his crib this afternoon and last night he would wake up & get right on all fours and cry. It's like he wasn't getting that he could just lay down & go to sleep! His top gums look a little swollen to me and red up top under his lip. He did have a slight temp this afternoon, so I gave him some motrin, but he was pretty miserable from the time he woke up from a nap around 5 until bed at 7.
After reading this thread I always feel like Declan is so far behind all of your babies! I guess he is one of the youngest babies in this group, but suddenly I'm wondering why he isn't doing many of these things you're discussing. He isn't crawling yet. He is sitting up on his own, but will topple over quickly if you don't keep a hand on him. He's also completely uninterested in sitting-- he just wants to stand! We don't have any teeth yet (although lots of drooling, which I assume is teething-related). And he's not eating solids yet. We tried some rice cereal-- it made him horribly constipated so we stopped. I'm excited to start some fruit and veggie purees, and he's definitely seeming interested in eating, but I want to talk to our pediatrician first since there are a lot of food allergies in my/DH's families. Our next dr. appointment is Sept. 1st. I guess I could just start with apples or something simple in advance, right? Of course, I haven't even read up on how much to give him or anything. :( *sigh*
Well, we did just have a whole weekend of firsts. We went to Seattle to visit the ILs, so Declan had his first plane flight (he was really good!). Then, he went in a baby swing at the playground for the first time and played in a kiddie pool for the first time. We've also transitioned him to an inflatable tub and started introducing bath toys (which he likes), so that is new as well. He's also making tons of noise-- screeches and screams. Sometimes sounds that sound an awful lot like words. He's very vocal.
Glad you all are well!
mcgwigan
08-28-2008, 05:50 AM
Rosebud I'm pretty sure Declan is one of the youngest & like Sashi was saying, all of our babies are developing differently. Declan may just be more vocal. Wyatt is not crawling-he has just started getting up on all fours but can only do it for not even a minute. Also, when Wyatt started sitting, he was very "tippy" initially for about a week or two. Then he stabalized a bit. Also, just to make you feel better-Aaron hasn't rolled yet (unless he just started). Don't worry about the food either-it's really just "practice" in the beginning. Apples are a good first food, but are binding and so are carrots. I think with allergies in the family you'd probably be safe with squash & sweet potatoes. Bannanas are good-but also binding. The first week or so of feeding, he probably won't get much in. Use a stage one food & put maybe a tablespoon into a different dish to feed him out of-that way you don't contaminate a jar of food with the feeding spoon. I really don't feel that he's behind from what you said. Also-crawling is not even a milestone anymore.
I found this site on feeding solids (http://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/T032000.asp)to be very helpful
Yep, I'm pretty sure Wyatt is working on his top teeth now. He's pretty miserable & wouldn't take a bottle this morning. I gave him some Motrin & hopefully he'll eat for the sitter today!
Rosebud Sounds like Declan is doing great! These babies really do develop their own schedules. It sounds like he is really close to sitting and he also sounds healthy and happy which is the most important! I'm glad you had a good trip to Seattle. I just switch to Oatmeal from rice cereal and Leo likes it much better, you might want to give it a try.
mcgwigan I hope Wyatt's teeth come in quickly. I was joking that Leo wasn't allowed to have teeth (while nursing anyway) and so far he has complied.
sashi It truely is amazing how different they are at this stage. I'm just so happy that all of our babies seem to be thriving.
The portraits went OK yesterday. Leo was a little camera shy at first so the pics in the best poses didn't have the best smiles. I didn't end up ordering very many because I just didn't love them. I think DH and I can do better (or just as well) at home. I think we might try doing some professional family shots with a more artistic photographer.
Rosbeud - You will be shocked how quickly these 'milestones' come. It's like one day he cant sit and the next day he can! No worries at all, some kids completely skip certain milestones. My friends twin, one daughter crawls the other hardly does (at a year) and she just started walking! How did he like the swing? Ollie LOVED it. I have to post pictures but the kid was about to fall asleep in the swing, he could have kept going for over 20 minutes!!
La_Mer awww-sorry about the portraits. I think that they get curious about the camera. Wyatt is so funny with our dog (she's really good with him) and I was trying to video tape them last night -it's an old recorder, so I wasn't even sure if it was working. I think he spent about 3 full minutes just staring at the camera and went back to what he was doing with the dog-just as the tape ran out! LOL! It's just the way!
Emma has an ear infection! :( They called me from daycare yesterday that she had a low fever, and seemed ok until the night -- she slept HORRIBLY, kept waking up every 1-2 hours screaming. She would eventually calm down with rocking and a pacifier, but it was torture. I took her to the pedi this morning and she's now on antibiotics. Ugh! I hope she'll start to feel better so she sleeps better!
Rosebud Emma doesn't do any of those things either -- definitely not crawling, and can sit for about a second if I prop her up, otherwise falls over. I posted before that I need to start feeding more, because I really don't do it enough.
tgoody I also want to know -- where did you get that "I love my big sister Sophie" onesie? I need to get one made like that for Emma to wear at Jacob's bday (he turns 3 on Tuesday!!! but we probably won't have a party for a few weeks).
OK, now that the weather is starting to change, I have to find shoes for Wyatt. Easy on-not easy for him to pull off-mainly to keep his socks on. I think that someone had mentioned that they liked the shoes at Target -are those the ministars shoes that they have (all soft leather-slip on-no laces)?
What kind of shoes do you like for this age?
tgoody03
08-29-2008, 07:46 AM
I personally do not like the infant shoes at Target. They are similar to Robeez, but the elastic that keeps the shoe on just seems so tight. They used to make terrible red marks on Sophie's feet, so I stopped buying them. They just looked like the squeezed too tightly and I wouldn't want that on my feet. I do buy her shoes from Target now, just didn't like the infant shoes.
Robeez are very nice, but Pedipods are also good. If you don't want to spend that kind of money yet b/c they aren't walking, try Children's Place. They have a lot of shoes for cheaper.
Sashi
08-29-2008, 08:03 AM
McGwigan - I think Ollie needs shoes too. My DH REFUSES to let me purchase them. I know that BRU has some sort of shoes that rival the Robeez. Good luck!
Rosebud - Ollie isn't crawling and is no where near it either. But I mean it when I say that it will happen all the sudden. He loves to stand too so he 'pulls up' a lot on us but we don't have low things int he house for him to pull himself up on anyway. No worries, Declan will be running around before you know it and we'll all be saying........NOOOO STOOOP! (like michele williams in that pictures you posted in the Gossip thread!)
I'm sorry, once again I am behind!!!
One of the reasons I am behind in the thread is I am so tired. Julia wakes 3-5 x a night-she eats and goes back to sleep. Also, she hates eating solids. She does like puffs and once in while a biter biscuit.
Other than the above-things are great and Julia is a joy-she's so cute that I will forgive her for the constant waking at night-luckily she does go back to sleep pretty easily!
I'm looking forward to the long weekend. DH, Julia and I are off to NJ tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend!
JBB Sorry about the sleep! Keep trying the solids. It took Wyatt a full two weeks before he would open his mouth. Basically I had to sneak it in there and entertain him so he wouldn't know he was eating!
I had a horrible shopping bug & went to Target & BJ's tonight. I did pick up a pair of Target shoes for Wyatt -we'll try them, it looks like I could probably put in a larger piece of elastic if they are too tight around the ankles. I had also picked up a pair at TJMaxx the other day that I hadn't tried on him yet. DH picked up a pair of Timberland boots for him the other day too!:D We're in shoe heaven here! Tonight I got him a hat that looks like a pumpkin & a Halloween bib that says "I love Mummy". I hope he's not too grouchy tomorrow so we can go to the mall! I've been deprived here!:)
I hope you guys can take some better ones! That's completely true about my students...they come in at the beginning of the year and they are so little. By the end of the year they are like completely different kids! I can't believe Leo is crawling!!!
Rosebud: I wouldn't stress over Declan's progress. I sometimes feel like Kassidy is way behind other babies in this thread, but I've realized she does things in her own time. She'll roll but doesn't. She is starting to sit up better. She's got no teeth and we're no where near crawling and she hates food (though I've only tried a handful of times...going to try again this weekend). I've also read that some babies develop first physically and some develop first vocally. Sounds like he's vocal and all the physical milestones will come! Glad the trip went well...flying is so nerve wracking but once you do it, it's no big deal!
Brady: I didn't ever respond to your LJ post, but Connor and the street paving was just priceless!
I survived the first week of school! It's actually been good. The hardest part is getting used to our new schedule, but it hasn't been too bad. I'm very glad for the 3 day weekend though, I need a break! I'm crossing my fingers that stupid hurricane goes to Louisiana and doesn't come here. Though I would be fine with a weak hurricane, I just would rather not mess with one at all at this point...we've already had two tropical storms this summer!
I think the baby is really teething now. She's been fussier at home and daycare so today we broke out the baby orajel. So, funny story. I was talking with one of Kassidy's teachers yesterday and she told me that one of the directors that works at the reception desk (she's the accounts manager for the daycare) will go get Kassidy if she can hear her whining or crying and lets her sit at the desk with her. I thought that was so funny because that is so my child. She would probably much rather sit at the desk in the middle of the hustle and bustle than hang out with the babies! Kassidy also gets to ride in the buggy with the older babies in the next room...which I already knew. I think they'll do anything they can to entertain her!
Sashi-
Sorry! I got behind again and am probably too late for your question-"Brady - QUICK QUESTION FOR YOU......is it customary in the New England area to give gifts at a wedding or checks? Sorry, totally not DC related!"
Checks are more the norm here!
Hi Everyone..
Rosebud- It's so hard not to compare babies, but believe me- Declan will do it all, but just at his own pace. It sounds like he is doing great though. I think Drew just wants so badly to run around with his big brother, that he is trying everything in his power to catch up with him! ;) My husband always says that my kids inherited the "ants in the pants" gene that I seem to have, I can never sit still! I think it's true about the verbal vs. physical too. My older son did all the physical stuff early also, but didn't really start talking until after he turned 2.
pgbg-Sorry about Emma's ear infection. I hope she is feeling better!
shoes- I like the Robeez (I'll only buy them on sale though, lol) and the Target knock-offs. I put a pair on Drew last weekend and he was like- "what the heck are these things on my feet....???" :) They are just like stylish slipper socks, IMO, but I don't find any need for *real* shoes until after they start walking.
JBB-Sorry the sleep isn't getting any better. I wish I had some suggestions for you to help out (but, I would also imagine you have tried everything at this point and are sick of suggestions). I can only imagine how tired you must be! Does she at least nap well during the day, so you can rest?
laMer-Sorry the pictures didn't go as well as you had hoped, I can certainly relate! I got your referral code also, I'm going to def. try them out for ordering when we start running low.
Have a great weekend all!
Pookie Yes, here in upstate NY we have 6 months of winter (no, it's not an exageration either!). Summer is the shortest season we have it seems! It's looking like it'll be in the 80's for the next few days, but it was just in the lower 70's and cloudy-it sucks!
Brady Yeah, I agree they don't really need shoes, but with the weather getting chilly, I need something to keep the socks on Wyatt's feet & hopefully shoes will do the trick! I did pick up a pair of the Target ones and he didn't seem to mind when I tried them on him. Apparently he has small feet, I got small ones and they are quite big on him-he'll grow into them.
Shopping was fun today even though I had Wyatt with me & it was mobbed. Funny thing, I used a smaller diaper bag & made sure I had a container of formula in there - just to forget the bottle to make it in!:eek: Yep! It was OK though, I didn't want to be there too long, so I really watched my time and limited myself to 2 hours so I was home by 2 & Wyatt got a good nap in. DH went to his hunting camp w/a buddy tonight and DSS is at his mother's so it was just Wyatt and I all day basically. I basically played with him all day-he's so fun now! And it's hysterical when he gets laughing! Of course, now it's 7:00 and he's in bed for the night so I'm getting laundry done &should see if there's a movie I want to see on PPV. HOpe everyone is having a good weekend.
Megan: See, and here we have 9 months of summer! We're usually lucky to have much of a winter at all! We don't really have spring and fall, just summer and winter. And it's still in the high 90's here! Glad you had fun shopping. I'm dying to shop, but I'm trying to be good!
Thanks for your kind thoughts! I'm not really stressed about Declan's development, but I just got nervous for a moment when I read about all the cool things your babies are doing. But you're right, every child does things in their own good time. Declan is on a schedule that's right for him. I'll keep that in mind.
We have our 6 month pediatrician visit next week (2 weeks late-- we're a little behind schedule with the dr.). Am curious to see how he's grown and excited to ask questions about starting solids, etc.
What kind of shoes do you like for this age?
We have a bunch of Robeez, mostly hand-me-downs, and they work really well. They seem to be fairly comfortable because he isn't always trying to kick them off. However, it's too hot here for D. to wear either socks or shoes often.
PookiePrincess- Glad the first week of school went well! I hope the teething isn't too terrible.
mcgwigan- You're so lucky that it's starting to get chilly. We're dying of the heat out here. I've never wanted Fall to come so badly!
JBB- Is Julia eating that many times a night or just waking that much? Declan still wakes 3-4 times a night but only eats once. Hope that Julia STTN soon!
Sashi- Ha ha! I know... I'm so eager for Declan to start crawling in some ways, but completely not excited in others. We've done no baby proofing. And I can barely keep up with him now when he's not crawling!
OMG, we were in teething hell last night! If I didn't think she was teething before, I definitely think she is now! She went to sleep about 8:15 and woke up about 10:30 crying. I went to get her and the cry turned into this ear piercing scream. I've never heard her cry like that! I gave her orajel and some tylenol and rocked her for a few hours. She finally let me feed her and that put her to sleep. I was afraid to move her too much, so I slept with her in the spare bedroom upstairs. Once she finally went to sleep, she was fine. I sure hope tonight is not a repeat. :( It sucked because I could tell she was in so much pain, but I had done everything I could. :( I still don't feel anything in her gums though.
We just got home from a VERY long (but fun) weekend and I'm pooped but I wanted to say AARON ROLLED OVER TODAY!!! FINALLY!! I put him on his belly upstairs after I changed his diaper and while I was getting changed. I left him in the hallway and came back out a few minutes later to see him on his back! I'm so sad I didn't see him do it and he hasn't done it again but he FINALLY rolled!!! YIPPEEE!!
BTW, we had a BLAST at Sesame Place. I'll share a few pics once I get them uploaded, probably tomorrow, and I'll read everything I missed then as well...
Welcome to my world! We haven't been sleeping for over 2 weeks now. His top 4 teeth are coming in. I mentioned before that the one did come in but now we are working on the middle two and one other one next to the middle. He's miserable in the middle of the night. Tylenol helps a bit I'm sure but it's not helping him to sleep through the pain as much as he needs to. To top it all off, sometimes he won't stop screaming until he gets fed and then i get all this anxiety about how i don't pump enough for what he eats. The ped said I should limit his milk to approximately 25 oz's and he's drinking 35 most days! I think I maybe pump 30. I feel horrible for him and there is nothing you can do.
We are going to the pediatrician this afternoon because I fear he might have an ear infection. I'm probably crazy but it doesn't hurt to check. I also want to see if they can PROFESSIONAL aspirate him. He's soooo stuffy and I can't seem to get it all!
Went to Kiddie Kandids this weekend....absolutely loved them. I really thought the girl did a great job getting the best shots out of a 7 month old. Here's some proof. The ones we ordered were cropped better but these are great. Please note the little Timerland shoes he has on......i'm so glad I remembered he has them, they hardly fit him for winter though :(
Sashi The congestion is probably from teething. They told me in the hospital that the more you use that asperator, the more mucos they create, so you can get into a vicious cycle with that - I really don't know if it's true or not, I only use the asperator on Wyatt if there's complete blockage.
Why does the pediatrician want you to limit the amount of BM he's getting? I thought the recommended amount was 24-32oz/day? 35 is only a little over that. I always am a little bummed when Wyatt only has 20-24 oz in bottles some days and am much happier to see him have more near the 30oz (or more) mark. Probably because I've found with him that he's guaranteed to wake up hungry if he doesn't eat enough during the day.
Wyatt's also still getting those top teeth and he hates Motrin-I tasted some-well, it was a generic ibuprofen and it was very "sharp" feeling in my throat & made me cough, so I have just been giving him tylenol. I have a new bottle of motrin (name brand) at home that I should open to see if it's the same when I taste it. Wyatt also does not like ot eat if his teeth are bothering him. So, there's days where he won't have any solids at all still. I'd really like to be able to get them into him twice a day though!
Lisa I love Sethie's face painting-how cool!! Aaron's too cute with the squash. I have to get a mat or something for the tub so I can put Wyatt in like that. It's so slippery, I can't let go of him. Tonight he was bending way over to get the water in his mouth & it was near impossible to have him sit in the tub like that! LOL!
Wyatt had a vaccination today and was impossibly cranky tonight-I think more from being tired than anything else. I bought him some teether biscuits tonight and he really loves them. He wants to be able to feed himself but doesn't have the pincer grasp yet, so doesn't have much success with puffs or anything small. I'm not ready to let him even have a full size puff yet though, so I break them in half. The biscuit was nice-easy to hold on to, too hard to bite off and choke on!
It's quiet in here lately!! I can't wait for these top teeth to come in. Wyatt is sooo miserable and I know that once they come through, it'll be all better!:) Anyway-it's so hard to get him to eat solids because of the teething and he even puts up a fight for the bottles more too.
Tomorrow we go for our pictures, I just hope that I'm able to get him a decent nights sleep and at least a good nap in the morning before we go! It's so hard to guess what time your DC will be in a good mood for pictures!
Nothing else going on here-it's DSS birthday on Sunday-10!! :eek:
Hope everyone is doing well!
Can I just say that having a mobile baby is so much work! I literally can't leave him alone for a second. In fact Leo fell off our bed this morning while I was watching him! He wasn't near the edge of the bed and then the next thing I know he was falling off. Fortunately we have carpet on the floor and he didn't hit anything on the way down so he wasn't hurt, just scared. It is so scary how fast they go from being fine to being in danger!
Sashi Those pics of Ollie are ADORABLE! I hope those teeth have popped though and you are getting more sleep.
Lisa YAY for Aaron rolling over, now you are in real trouble, LOL! Leo will not stay still when I change his diaper, once I get the dirty one off he rolls over onto his tummy before I can get the new one on. Each time it's like a wrestling mach. Your trip to Sesame looks like it was so much fun, the face painting is amazing!
mcgwigan I hope your teething troubles are easing up too. Leo seems to be doing everything but teething, and I am not looking forward to it. I hope your picture session goes well tomorrow, will you share with us? Please :D. Happy Birthday to your DSS, wow double digits! Remember when we were saying that about the days left in our pregnancies?
pookie Teething in your house too? I hope she's feeling better and you are getting more sleep.
Leo's sleep patterns are so irregular. I never know when he's going to wake up at night. And lately he's been waking up again between 4 and 6 ready to get up for the day. 6 is fine, 4 is not! We were on such a great schedule for awhile I'm not sure what happened. I thought all the physical activity would wear him out!
I'm so excited because DH is going to be home - no traveling - for the next few months. YAY! I should be back on here a little more regularly again. And I'll have some help, although things are getting a little easier around here for me when it's just me and the kids.
Since we are sharing pics, here are some from Tripp's 6 month session (http://blog.tricialeephotography.com/). Go down to the end of the page. Sophie had her 2 year pics last week and they are so adorable, if I do say so myself. When my photographer posts some on her blog, I'll share them with you guys. They aren't the typical photos and are quite eclectic with tuts, pettiskirts, and cowboy boots. LOL
tgoody OMG! I love those pics of Tripp....he such a little chunker --I love his cheeks!! I can't wait to see Sophies, so please let us know when she posts them!
LaMer I'm one of the lucky few in that Wyatt does not really move around that much and especially on his changing table-he loves being there and doesn't give me a hard time when I change him. Glad that Leo wasn't hurt this morning!!
Of course I'll share my pics - I plan on getting the CD this time- unless for some reason we end up with no shots I like. So I'll post them tomorrow!
ETA: tgoody I had to come back to say, I really like Tripp's hair - it looks like it's pretty even. Wyatt's got some pretty long stuff on top so ends up with the comb-over look no matter what I do! hee, hee! DH wants to cut it, but I keep telling him he has to wait until a year!
Tgoody3 - OH MY GOODNESS, the nakey ones are so unbelievable! She is great! If you don't mind me asking, what price range is the shoots at your house? I'd love to find someone to do that from now on instead of going to a place because I really like the feel of yours. Congrats on DH being home for a while!
McGwigan - Happy birthday to DSS!!!!! Good luck with your pictures and the teething. All i can say is, I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!
LaMer - Ollie's teeth weren't the problem, he had an EAR INFECTION! :eek: No signs showed up until Saturday night when my dad was watching him. His gf said he was just swatting at his ear while trying to go to sleep. He did it every night and we went to the doc on Tuesday afternoon with a minor ear infection. Poor baby! :(
Hey girls, the ear infection is getting better after 3 days of antibiotics. He's now waking every 3 hours instead of every 1 hour. Ugh, still a mess but it's better. Honestly, I thought it was teeth and am glad that i won't have to deal with *this* for 2 years+!
We went to NYC with friends last weekend, while my dad watched Ollie for the whole day. We had a blast. We saw Legally Blonde: The Musical.......SOOO GOOD! I bought the soundtrack, LOVED the play. I really didn't care that much for the movie but oh my goodness, had such a great time! We really love NYC and can't wait for our first family weekend up there!
No real plans this weekend except relaxing and enjoying time alone with him. Oh.....and FOOTBALL! I'm really excited for this football season, totally unsure as to why and very unlike me.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Tripp had his 6 mo WBV. The following are his stats:
Weight: 19.3 lbs (50% - 75%)
Length: 28 inches (95% - 97%)
Head:
Eating - I think we found a winner! Carrots! Tripp ate up all his carrots ... an entire jar tonight. Woo-hoo! Other than that, he's eating but not loving it. Nursing like a champ though.
Sleep - For the most part, he is doing well. Goes to bed between 7 - 7:30 and wakes between 6:30 - 7:15. I don't like to talk about good sleep, though, because I swear it jinxes me!
Teeth - We've got a bump on the lower middle gum, but no teeth yet.
Moving - Thankfully, unlike lots of the kiddos in here, Tripp is not crawling. I'm so not ready for that yet. I did notice today that he kicks his legs and got on his tippy toes butt in air while on his belly ... maybe he's trying to crawl? I hope not yet! He's sittling, rolling, all those good things just fine.
Me - I just started running again. I'm setting my sights on a 5k in 5 weeks, so I need to get moving. I've lost a total of 30 lbs, which is completely crazy in my mind. I'm chalking it up to running after a toddler and BFing a baby. I'm down 12 lbs more than I was when I got pregnant with Sophie. I Still have another 10 to go to get down to where I was when I got married, but I'm totally stoked that I'm almost there. My body has changed big time, as I'm sure all of yours have. I no longer have a big butt/big leg combo ... those are small-er (not small LOL) .. but my belly ... man .. that thing still looks pregnant at times.
SOs:
McWigan - Thanks for the compliments on Tripp's pictures! Have fun at pictures tomorrow! I can't wait to see yours. Are these going to be family pics or Wyatt 6 month pics? I hadn't thought of the biter biscuits yet, thanks for that! Tripp bites so hard on his fingers and made himself bleed. Either that or a toy knicked him, but I couldn't find what toy would have made him bleed. Either way, I think I'll try the biter biscuits. Hope Wyatt feels better soon. Wow, 10? That is crazy. Imagine when Wyatt is 10!! Oh! That's really sweet to say about Tripp's hair. Do you remember how black and spikey it was when he was born? Now it's light brown, border-line golden brown. I think Wyatt is so adorable and I've never noticed his comb over LOL!
LaMer - Aw, that's sweet to say about Tripp's pics. We do love our photographer, she's awesome. She really loves our kids, that's for sure. I hear you on the mobile baby! I can't believe Leo is mobile already. I can't believe any of these babies are! They are too young. Wait til he's walking :) I think I said this before, but I swear there is some kind of sleeping thing with babies. When they hit 7 or 8 months something happens to their sleep pattern ... all my friends say this. I think it has to do with all the activity, they know they can roll, crawl, etc and they get excited and want to do it when they wake up. I haven't seen a pic of Leo in a while, I don't think, post a pic!
Lisa - Your kids are precious, as always! I love that pick of Jackie in the pool. She looks like she is having so much fun. And the pic of Aaron with the hat. Precious. And of course Sethie with the painted face. Way too cute. I love them all! If I took Sophie to Sesame Place, she's probably attack Elmo she loves him so much. Was Abby Cadabby there? She's obsessed!! LOL We don't really even watch much tv, I don't know how she knows all these characters. LOL
Sashi - You're going to love this - those pics were taken at my photographers studio. She has a studio in a house. It's awesome. She also has like 5 acres so most of the pictures we do are there. They always look different because there are so many places to use. We did have some at our house in February for Tripp's newborn session. I can give you the link to those if you want. They were cool. If we go to her the session fee is $95. I think if she comes to you it's another $50. We do the 3, 6, 9, 12 month package and pay $350, I think. That comes with a 5x7 from each sitting framed. Prints are pricey, but I think it's worth it. Call me crazy.
Ugh, I can't believe Ollie had an ear infection. I've heard that happens often, where there is absolutely no sign but the baby has one. Well I'm just glad he's doing better. He's so adorable in all his pictures, like a happy little man. LOVE it!!
Sashi: His pictures turned out great! Sorry about the ear infection. Hopefully he'll be back to 100% soon!
Megan: I hope he gets his top teeth soon! I hope the pictures go well tomorrow.
Mer: How scary that he fell off the bed! Kassidy isn't a mover either. She still doesn't roll, even though she can.
Tammie: That's awesome about your DH being home for a while. I'm sure it gets really old having him gone a lot. The pictures of Tripp are awesome! Your photographer is amazing! I can't wait to see Sophie's! Kassidy's not crawling either. She's seems like she has no interest in being mobile. I can still put her in the floor and go do something and she's right where I left her when I get back.
Lisa: Glad you had a good trip!
That one night was our only bad night as far as sleep goes. She's been back to waking up once, some nights sleeping through. Though Tuesday night she wouldn't go down until 10:30 and that about drove me nuts! Still no tooth though.
We took her for the x-ray for the flat spot on her head on Wednesday. They called today and said the results were normal. Her ped is referring us to another doctor (I'm assuming some sort of neurologist...I forgot to ask) just to keep an eye on it.
She's also moving up to the next room at daycare in two weeks. They'll spend the next two weeks introducing her more to that room and the teachers (she already loves one of the teachers in there) so it won't be a huge adjustment when she moves up. It's so funny to go in her room now because she's the oldest and she looks so big compared to the teeny babies.
She's had some major poop issues and I'm not sure why. A couple of people at daycare think it's teething related but one said she didn't think it was, so I don't know what to think. I had to get her early Tuesday (just an hour or so) because she had 3 bad diapers and that's their limit. Which is weird for her because she usually only poops once a day, if even. She was fine Wednesday and Thursday and today was worse again. I thought maybe it was some sort of virus or something that made her tummy upset, but who knows. Guess we'll see what happens this weekend.
Sorry I've been MIA, I still have about 2 pages to catch up on! LOL Life has been so busy here that when I am home, I'm barely able to get online anymore... Starting next week I should have some more time (I hope) since both Jackie & Seth will be at school 2 full days (well she'll be going 3 days but 2 of hers overlap with Seth's 2!). Aaron and I will be starting the Little Gym next Thursday as well and I can't wait.... I've been going there since Jackie was barely a year old!
Aaron hasn't rolled again but boy is he backwards scooting across the rooms now! We put the top of the stairs gate up so I can put him on his belly upstairs while we're all getting ready. He now is getting up on all 4s and off his belly and has even rocked back and forth! But still won't really roll except for that 1 time... strange kid! LOL
Teeth # 3 & 4 will probably break through in about 1-2 weeks now. I can see them sticking through his gums and his drooling has gotten worse. As for clothes, Aaron is pretty much entirely in 12 month stuff and has even morn a few 12-18 month shirts! YIKES!! He can still fit into a few 9 month things, but we don't have that much 9 month. Oh well, at least he's always dressed! LOL
We're busy planning for Seth's 3rd bday party (in our backyard on the 21st) and the Jewish holidays (Rosh Hashanah falls on Seth's actual bday this year).September is a very busy month with the holidays and stuff then October calms down and then November kills us between Thanksgiving and a gazillion bdays... oy! Then everyone knows what December is like... I'm already looking forward to January! LOL
~~~

Sashi, pulling up already?! WOW!!!!!!! Aaron will stand supported if we stand him up (he loves it) but won't pull up himself yet. I'm not ready for that! LOL It's amazing how all our little ones are developing so differently. We've got crawlers, teeth, pulling up, eating lots and lots of foods. It's just so funny to me how different they all are yet they were all bornw ithin a month of each other.I know! It's crazy!! I LOVE the pics you had done!!! How's Ollie feeling?

Brady, are the Huggies Overnights still working? I know what you mean about different brands being different with sizing and I hate it! Drew just wants so badly to run around with his big brother, that he is trying everything in his power to catch up with him!I think Aaron is the same. You should see the way he looks at them when they are playing, it's like he wants to join them!

la_Mer, crawling? WOW! Lisa Am I remembering correctly that Aaron was 19 lbs 6 oz at his 6 month?Yuppers, and that was almost 3 weeks ago so we figure he's passed 20 lbs by now!!!! :eek: Jackie rolled off the bed once on my watch and Seth rolled off the changing table once on Scott's watch, I think it happens more often than people admit. Aaron does try to roll most of the way over when I change him since he figured out the lotion bottles are behind his head. He doesn't do it when anyone else changes him since I'm the only lefty and Scott set up the changing table so the lotion bottles are only on my side! LOL

Megan, how's Wyatt? Was it teething or crawling or both? Thanks for the compls on my pics. Aaron LOVES the big tub and splashes like crazy! I have to upload and share the pics we took of all 3 of them in the tub together! They had a ball! He loved the sweet potatoes but after a few minutes wanted me to feed him, he just wanted to squish them in his hands.

Rosebud, I know it's easier said than done, but try not to compare. It's hard for me not to with Aaron not rolling, but we're not "supposed to." What did the ped said about foods with the history of allergies? Our allergist told me to stay away from the top 8 with Aaron until we do blood work just before a year. We can introduce wheat at 8-9 months, but not milk, eggs or soy or anything else in the top 8. I also have to avoid peas with him since they are legumes and related to peanuts. This is all per Seth's allergist based on Seth's history. Luckily, I don't have to avoid milk or eggs or anything like that!!

pgbg, how's Emma feeling? Poor baby!

Tammie, I loved that onsie as well. OMG your photographer is fabulous! I saw Sophie's pics but didn't see Tripp's. I love her work, how on Earth do you chose which ones to get? OK I found Tripp's on another page... I have to say I love the naked tushy shots! LOL Congrats on the weight loss! Thanks for the compls on my pics. Jackie LOVED being thrown in the air like that at the pool. Abby was at SP but she "went potty" right before it was our turn to get pics with her. We did see her in a show, though.

JBB, sorry you are so tired and that she's still getting up so much. How was your trip to NJ? One of these days we need to try to meet up either here or by you since we live so close!

Kristi, glad you survived the first week of school! Sounds like your little sweetie wants to work at the front desk! LOL I'm glad the x-ray of her head came out normal!

~~

Shoes: officially babies are not supposed to wear anything hard soled until they are full on walking, but BIL & SIL put regualr shoes on my nephew and he still walked at 13 months even though I never used regualr shoes until Jackie & Seth were already walking.... I went on Ebay for both of them and bought used Robeez (I refuse to pay full price for those!) I got some really cute designs and they couldn't pull them off. I can't find some of Seth's old ones so I might have to go back on Ebay to get some for Aaron.

Weather: So who's getting affected by Hanna? We're supposed to get a bad storm the entire day today with hurricane force winds, but so far it's only drizzling... we'll see what the afternoon brings. We had plans to go to a friend's house today but might stay home just in case. Anyone who might be in the path of Hanna, STAY SAFE!!

Thanks, Lisa! Looks like Sophie's pics are now up. Her pictures bumped Tripp's to the second page. I love these pictures of Sophie so much. OMG! To me, she looks like a little model ... like I could send one of these pictures in to the pettiskirt company and see it in a magazine the next day. I'm not bragging, I just think that my photographer takes wonderful, creative pictures. Not everyone likes these types of artsy pics, but I do!

I will say, John and I both got poison ivy during this shoot. LOL Kids are fine because we were carrying them around. You should see these run down houses we were at. The pictures certainly don't reflect what the houses actually look like. I'm going to have to drive by these houses and take a normal picture of them. You won't believe it! I drive by them a few times a week and would have never thought "hey, let's put Sophie in a tutu and stick her on the porch of that nasty house!" :)

Sophie's 2 year pictures (http://blog.tricialeephotography.com/)

I'll be back for SOs at the kids' nap times!

tammie Wow those pics are amazing. She does look like a model. I LOVE the tutu and the cowboy boots, and the ones of Tripp in overalls with just your legs. Amazing.

Speaking of modeling...Leo did a professional photoshoot for Pregnancy magazine yesterday! It was a totally random thing but he did really well. I'll let you know if he makes it into the magazine.

tgoody Oh, I LOVE Sophie's pictures!! How can you not buy them all??? I would be broke to have that photographer!! Sophie is just gorgeous!

Lisa Sounds like you'll have more teeth before we do. It's taking forever! SOunds like you're busier now, than before!

Pookie The drool from teething makes their poop weird and they can also get a rash from teething too. Glad your sleep was only bad the one night!

We had the.worst.night.of.sleep.ever last night!! He wouldn't drink a bottle before bed, but had solids. He woke up at 11, but only drank 3 oz. Then he woke up at 2:30 and that's it-I've been up since then! I did get him to go back to sleep on & off until about 4:30 so I took him out into the living room (had DH go back to the bedroom at that point) and played with him til 6:30. Then I got him to go back to sleep so went back to bed til 8 myself. Only to get up and ask DH how long Wyatt had been up & he said 6-which isn't right, so who knows? Ugh-the kid just could not sleep last night. He was grumpy, grumpy for pics and I thought we were going to get no smiles, but he finally drank a bottle (he wouldn't before we left home) and his mood improved so we ended up with some good shots.

I just put my photo CD in my computer and see that she did not put everything on there :mad:. She had told me that she would put my enhanced pictures on there, but they aren't-just the plain shots, so I'll have to call to see what's up with that. Anyway-I'll post some as soon as I get them uploaded.

Wyatt went down for a nap finally at 2:30 - I don't understand why he is fighting sleep so much. He does end up on all fours in the crib a lot and has been doing a lot of rocking back & forth, so I don't know if it's that or what. Tonight better be better!!
OK, pictures next.

Yep, I called Sears & they forgot to put the other images on my CD, so now I have to go back sometime and get that.:rolleyes: It's not near work or anything, so it's hard for me to get to the area it's in. Sigh, I'm sure DSS will want to go to the mall to spend his b-day money, so maybe we can go Monday night after I get Wyatt to bed.

Anyway -here are a few pictures from today. Once I get the enhanced CD, I'll post some of those since most of the ones I ordered were enhanced-I'm too tired to figure out how to duplicate them on my own for now!

I'm just doing a drive by post here checking out pictures... but,
Tammie-Those pictures of Sophie are amazing!!! The ones of Tripp are so absolutely adorable also. I love the one of him actually from Sophie's shoot just sitting down with all your legs in the shot. Amazing and I wish I could fly out there to have her take some pics of my kiddos!

Megan-Great pictures of Wyatt also! He is such a cutie! He totally has your face and dimples. Your husband must work outdoors, he is so tan! :) Very cute family you have!

Lisa-Love the Sesame Place pictures too... we went last year and my son had such a blast. He's been asking me like once a week since then when we are going back. Too bad it was a 6 hour drive!

One of these days I'll get back here to do more than a quickie post.. but like LaMer said a mobile baby keeps you on the move, that's for sure!;)

Ha! You guys crack me up - plus it gave DH an ego boost!! (yep, had to show him ;) - he never believes me!)

Anyway, Wyatt, I decided, has an icky cold!:mad: I have felt like I've been battling something off for a few days - went to bed early last night since I wasn't feeling well. After Wyatt's nap today, his nose was running like a faucet & he kept crying, nothing really made him happy. Poor little guy! I hate that there's really nothing I can do-no temp, but I gave him Motrin anyway, hoping it will make him feel well enough to sleep at least! The good news is that he drank good bottles, so I'm really hoping to get better sleep tonight. We were supposed to go out to dinner tonight for DSS birthday, but I just sent DH & DSS and had them bring me back something. I didn't feel like being in a restaurant with a miserable baby!

Brady We cross-posted. Yep, he works outside (mostly-he's a contractor & has done tons of decks this year). He thinks we look like an inter-racial couple because I was hardly in the sum this year at all! ha, ha!

MEgan-Too funny about your DH's comment. My husband has a total farmer's tan from his job outdoors also. Sorry about Wyatt, Drew actually is battling the same thing. Both the boys actually had the runny noses yesterday and they are still all stuffed up today, at least Connor knows how to blow his... Drew just keeps sniffing it all back in!! ;) Poor kiddos, tis the season already, I suppose!

Hey girls -

Just wondering if anyone else is having major sleeping problems? Or if the RO's have any suggestions for us?

Ollie is waking 1 or 2 at night for hours on end. The only suggestion I got from my ped is that I should CIO all-night-long. And Oliver is hard headed and will cry all-night-long if I let him. We've tried other methods but he just doesn't stop. I don't know what to do. He wakes up and ONLY goes back to sleep if he gets a bottle. I'm exhausted. My husband and I are at our wit's end.

Any advice?

TIA!!!

Hi Ladies, sorry I've been MIA.

Everything is going good on our end. I'll be back for an update but wanted to get this out before Addison wakes up. Addison is doing great, she’s been pulling herself up for weeks and just started to let go for 5 seconds before falling to the ground.

I'm looking for a new/additional car seat. Addison is getting close to out growing the height restrictions on her Graco Safe Seat. The one I currently have is a Evenflo Titan Elite (http://www.target.com/Evenflo-Titan-Elite-Car-Seat/dp/B0018QMXVO/ref=cm_reviews_dp_seemore/602-6065236-9716630?ie=UTF8&coliid=&frombrowse=&alt%5Fview=custReviews), right now the reviews stink on it so I am going to put it in DH's truck since he doesn't drive her around much. We got it as a gift at my baby shower and I have no clue if I have the gift receipt or not.

I'm torn on what to get, of course there are negatives with each review. I really like the Britax Marathon (http://www.target.com/Britax-Marathon-Convertible-Car-Seat/dp/B0018Q96ZA/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_1/602-6065236-9716630) but it's very pricey for us and we don't have that much money to spend. I also saw this one at Toys r Us, Alpha Omega Elite Convertible (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3091042), price not too bad plus I have a 20% off coupon for there.

What type of car seats do you have? Pros and Cons on it?

TIA!

Sashi ~ I know this is a no no but have your tired putting some cereal in his bottle? I do and my doctor knows I do it and Addison sleeps really good.

Gotta run, she's up and were going to Target going to check out their car seats to see what they offer.

Real quick... Aaron was 1000% perfectly fine yesterday and then bedtime hit... He barely slept all night and was up screaming in pain every few hours. He barely ate and we thought his belly felt hard so I called the ped this morning and she sent me to the ER (she never sends anyone to the ER). He has Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease (otherwise known as Coxsackie). Poor guy had 101.7 an hour after getting Tylenol and his throat is bright red with blisters. The doc gave me a mixture of Malox and Benadryl (called it Magic Mouthwash) to give every 6 hours and we just have to wait it out. Poor baby is in so much pain he's barely eating (which reminds me I need to pump since I'm getting engorged from him not eating) so we have to watch out for dehydration....

Car seat: We have the Evenflo Triumph that Jackie had and Seth is now using. Next weekend Aaron will get it and Seth will get Jackie's old Evenflo Generations (transitional booster). We LOVE the Triumph and so do the kids. I think it was rated just below the Britax, at least when we got it, for safety and it's way cheaper.

Brady
09-07-2008, 04:49 PM
Carseat- We also have the same one as Lisa, the Evenflo Triumph (from '05). I'm not sure though what I am going to do in regards to keeping it, or getting a new one for Drew. Drew still seems okay in the Safeseat, so I'm hoping he makes it until 1 and then we'll figure out if I just switch him into the Triumph and get the next step for Connor (he's almost at the weight limit on it at 3.5 anyways). But yeah, no issues with it, it's been great for the past 3 years!

Sashi-I'm so sorry! So, after he eats does he go right back to sleep, or he's still up for hours after eating? I wish I had some advice to help.. keep us posted.

Lisa-Poor Aaron! That sounds miserable! I hope he gets over it soon.

mcgwigan
09-07-2008, 05:25 PM
Lisa Oh, poor Aaron! I hope he feels better soon and you're able to keep his temp down! That's no fun for one so young!

DelSol I have the Evenflo Triumph & really like it. I grabbed it on clearance & only looked up reviews after I purchased it & is was rated just below Britax - I don't really have the budget for a britax either!

Brady I hope our kids get over these colds fast! It would be so much better if Wyatt could blow his nose, but he just snuffs it back in, then ends up gagging- ugh!

Sashi I wish I had an answer for you because that's what I went through Friday night-I'm chalking it up to a 3 hour nap at the sitters followed by an hour nap an hour after waking from the 3 hour nap. Let me know if you find a solution-or is he maybe going to make a milestone & start crawling soon? I've noticed that every time Wyatt wakes up lately he's on all fours 7 rocking back & forth.

We have a 3rd tooth on the bottom now! I have been watching the top ones, so that took me by surprise when I saw it tonight. He's miserable stuffy and his gums are really bothering him so I've had him on Motrin all day. I just wish these teeth would give us a break already-he's basically up every 2 or 3 hours now. We need our sleep-I offered to DH to let him sleep in our basement tonight-I don't see why we both have to be up all night, someone might as well get some sleep here! OK, off to go to bed soon!

Sashi
09-07-2008, 05:34 PM
Lisa - OMG! I'm so sorry for poor little Aaron! That's sooo horrible. How do you avoid it going forward? Good luck to your little guy!

Meghan - Thanks for your advice. Congrats on the 3rd tooth! See below!

Brady - Thank you for at least sympathizing, it's all i could hope for anywho.

DelSol - Thanks for the advice! He is defnitely full when we put him to bed. He gets a bottle and solids before bed (and a bath). I don't know why it's now different from before.

We now have a 4th tooth. His top right middle tooth came in today. He's still working on his left middle and his right eye tooth. Poor baby! He was not happy today for some reason, just a little grumpy and fussy all day. No fever though.

x-posted from CIO thread:
DS is 7 months. We are currently going through our 5th day of treating his first ear infection. He just cut his 4th tooth with 2 more right behind that one. We've been unable to get him to go to sleep for about 2 weeks without rocking him, sleeping with him or holding him. Before that he was sleeping from 7:30-6pm no wakeups. We've since increased his solids to 3 meals a day and he gets 5 (sometimes 6) 5oz bottles a day. The reason we weren't going to CIO originally is because we live in a townhouse with people on either side of us. We can't hear our neighbors and they've never complained before about us. But we were concerned about his screaming and their response to it. We figured that it was early enough and we were up and able to 'try' it tonight.

I just put my DS in his crib at 7:45 as that's his normal go to bed time. He was exhausted from his fun day and could hardly keep his eyes open to finish his dinner. He was awake and well he just started screaming and jerking himself all over the crib. Screaming is actually an understatement, it was blood curtling screaming. His screams lasted about 30 minutes and by 8:15 it just STOPPED. WOA! It was hard but 30 minutes wasn't bad!

I have a question though. What happens when/if he wakes up in the middle of the night? Remember, we live in a townhouse and I don't want to be ignorant to my neighbors. But, do I let him cry or go into him to see what's wrong? He may have a poopy diaper or be sleeping in throw up. Just wondering since I can't seem to find much on the internet about it?

mcgwigan

Sashi I read your post in the CIO thread too - sorry, I don't have any experience - DH did say that Wyatt was crying at 12:30 last night and he just let him & he finally went back to sleep. It's so hard for me to let him cry & I'd probably cave before 30 minutes was up! I'm not sure what to do in the middle of the night. If it were me, I'd probably just feed him so he'd go back to sleep- but that's just me-I know that Wyatt simply won't take a bottle if he's not hungry, so I rock him until he's drowsy then put him down.
Good luck (maybe he won't wake up)!

Tammie: Sophie is so cute...the pictures are amazing!

Mer: That's awesome about the magazine...hope he gets picked!

Megan: Your pictures turned out great! I knew that about teething and poop/diaper rash, I just am not sure what normal teething poop is like. I still can't feel anything...it seems like she's been teething forever! Sorry about Wyatt's cold. I hope he feels better soon.

Brady: Hope the boys feel better.

Sashi: I am no help with the sleep. When she wakes up at night, it's usually once and I feed her and she goes back to sleep. If she doesn't go back to sleep immediately, I'll leave her in her crib and she babbles herself back to sleep. A lot of times I do bring her into bed with us when she wakes up though because usually it's about 4 am and I only have another 2 hours of sleep anyway.

Dana: I don't know how tall Addison is, but I'm pretty sure the height restriction on the safeseat isn't her total height, it's if her head is within 1-2 inches of the top of the seat. You might ask in the car seat thread because I know I've read that in there. Kassidy's long but still has tons of room in it, I think she'll make it to a year. But as far as convertibles, we're planning on getting a Marathon or a Fisher Price Safe Voyage. My plan is to get a Marathon during the September sale and then keep the safeseat for DHs truck and buy another Marathon for his truck (or a FPSV) in February.

Lisa: Sorry Aaron is sick! Hope he's better soon.

Still no teeth and I still can't feel anything. She's been chewing like crazy and I just can't believe she doesn't have a tooth yet!

We went today to watch football at a friend's house and she was so great! Everyone kept commenting what a happy baby she is! She took an hour nap with me on the couch and then another 45 minute nap in their new baby's crib. I was worried about the sleep, but she was great!

Alright, gotta go so I can get in bed at a decent hour tonight.

Sashi - When I CIO with Sophie, I initially went in to check on her to see if there was an issue. If there wasn't, then I would leave and let her CIO. After the first day or so, I knew there weren't any issues because she was waking up at the same time. So I stopped going in, let her CIO, and she was fine. After the CIO is over, if she cried in the middle of the night, I would go in and check because I knew she could get herself back to sleep so if she wasn't doing it then then there was probably a problem. Make sense?

Lisa - OMG, girl! I'm so sorry for Aaron. That just sounds so terrible. I wonder how in the world he got that. He doesn't even go to school. I've heard it's very common, highly contagious, and painful. Hopefully Sethie and Jackie don't get it!

LaMer - Forgot to say that I know exactly how you felt about Leo falling off the bed. Same thing happened with Sophie. She could roll, just never did. Never, ever. But, of course the one time I set her on the bed and walked into the closet (thought DH was watching, he thought I was) she rolls. Never fails! Luckily, we also have carpet and she fell on to a bunch of pillows. Lucky girl! You've just had mommy lesson #1 - whenever you think the kid is safe and won't roll off the bed, he will! LOL

Oh man, Tripp is waking up ... all this sleep talk. See - it's a jinx! I'll be back.

Sashi, we lived in a townhouse before we moved here and had to do CIO with Seth when he was about 16 months old. We were on the end unit so we only had 1 unit next to us, but what I did was ring their bell and talk to them. I thought their bedroom was next to ours (where his crib was) but it turns out it was their bathroom. Anyway, they thanked me for the warning and told me a few days later they never heard him.

Thanks for the thoughts about Aaron. He was up literally every 2 hours last night and it would take about 45 minutes to get him and then myself back to sleep so I was only getting just over an hour of sleep at a time. His fever seems to be down, I haven't taken it but he isn't burning up anymore, he's just in so much pain still. He did nurse about 3 of the times he woke up last night, and nursed for over 1/2 hour, so that's good. I'm now worried that he'll get used to nursing or being rocked to sleep and want all that when he feels better! We'll have to sleep train all over again, at least it didn't take him too long!!

To make things worse, I pulled my neck out and can barely move so I had to ask Scott to work from home today and he pulled out his back the other day and is in the middle of the biggest project of his career. Needless to say we're both kinda cranky today! LOL My mom was going to sleep over tonight since she works near here once a week but she's going to try to come up by about lunch time, but she has ot leave for work at 3 so we'd only get about 3 hours if she can make it. But 3 hours of help is better than nothing!

Carseats: I read that the new Triumphs are now forward facing up to 50 lbs, which is new, it used to be 40 lbs. What we like about the Generations by Evenflo is that you use the 5 point harness from 20-40 lbs (it's forward facing only) and then you use the car's seat belts from 30-100 lbs but it's still latched into the car so it's a bit safer than the regualr booster seats when they get older. For those of you whose baby will definitely be over the 20 lbs mark by a year, if you wanted to (and if the baby isn't too long) you could keep the infant carrier until a year and then go right to something like the Generations (I think Eddie Bauer makes a similar one) and skip the Convertible Car Seat and save some $$ that way. I have to say that I love that both of these seats will be used for all 3 kids so we'll be getting our $$ worth!! (Jackie is now in a regular booster in the way back of my van since the Generations was too high for her to buckle herself in and I couldn't climb back there all the time! Seth will move to his regular booster full time when he turns 4 but we'll use it as an extra once he turns 3)

Lisa Jeepers -when it rains, it really pours for you!! I hope Aaron gets better fast and back to normal sleeping. Hope your neck & scott's back feel better soon (although-that sounds a little suspicious :p LOL!!)

tgoody Good input on the CIO - I'd like to try with Wyatt when he's feeling better & not teething-if it ever happens!!

Pookie Yay for the good naps away from home. It's so nice when you go somewhere and they cooperate, isn't it? Don't be in a rush for teeth-they are sharp and there is just no way to teach a baby to not bite! I'm not talking about nursing, but Wyatt will sometimes bite my shoulder-I know he just needs to chew something, but no me!

I just called to check on Wyatt & my daycare provider said "he's cranky" first thing. He has also only had a 15 minute nap all morning. I so hope she can get at least 1 decent nap out of him this afternoon. She was surprised this morning when I told her another bottom tooth came in-she wasn't looking for it either.

Well, back to work. I'm really coming down with his cold now-probably doesn't help that I can't get proper sleep either!:( Oh, and I let DH sleep in the basenment last night to be nice & let him get a decent nights sleep and he didn't even ask how my night went. :mad: Nice, DH!

He woke up at 12:30, DH fed him. He woke up again at sometime at that point i went in there and laid with him and i woke back up at 5am. Put him in his crib and then he woke up again at 6 and my DH laid with him until 7am. We just can't figure all this out. His ear is probably still bothering him as he gets fussy when he lays on his side. his teeth are definitely bothering him but jeez, this is horrible!

Sashi I feel your pain!! Wyatt doesn't even calm down when I lay down with him though - I basically have to rock him to sleep & take him to bed with me to lay down with him-I usually just do it if he keeps waking up when I put him in his crib, like this morning at 5. ugh-I hope we're better soon!

The sitter wasn't able to get Wyatt to take a real nap until 2:15 today. I went and got him some baby vapor rub on my lunch break & went and put it on him-it was about 1/2 hour later he was abe to sleep & slept til I picked him up at 5. Poor thing. The sitter was all concerned because he wasn't wanting his bottles and called me while he was still sleeping to see if it'd be OK to give him cereal if he woke up & wouldn't drink a bottle. Anyway he was in pretty good spirits tonight and even tried some chicken at dinner! Yep, I just cut it up tiny, tiny and he gobbled it right up. I felt so brave! LOL! Anyway, I gave him a Vapor bath and put some more of the baby rub on him-hoping he gets a good stretch of sleep in. I'm off to bed myself since I have this cold too-ugh!

So last night was interesting.

DH laid with him, we didn't do CIO. (I wanted to but it was clear DH wanted to spend some alone time with him). He woke up at 12:30 for all of 30 seconds (binky) and then at 4:30 for 10 minutes and DH rocked him back to sleep and woke up for the day around 7.

I hope but don't think it will last. Wierd!

mcgwigan Great pics! Wyatt looks so much like you, he's adorable. I'm sorry to hear you guys are sick, I hope you feel better soon. You are brave for giving Wyatt chicken, sounds like he likes it.

DelSol Did you find a car seat? I'm not much help because I decided to go with the Marathon since I had a coupon for 15% off when I bought it. Leo loves it. But it sounds like the other babes like their car seats too!

sashi I'm not much help when it comes to CIO because I am a wimp and I can't do it :p. Fortunately Leo usually only wakes once to eat, although recently he has been into waking up at 5 am. I hope it works out for you and you get more sleep soon!

Pookie We don't have any teeth yet either, I keep thinking they are coming but they just never do. It's the one thing Leo seems to be taking his time with, which makes me happy. That is great that Kassidy was so easy going at your friends house. It's so nice to be able to take them out and know they can handle it.

Lisa I hope Aaron gets better soon, poor guy, and poor momma. I hope he remembers his sleep training so you can get back on track soon.

tgoody I'm glad that I'm not the only one who let their baby fall off the bed. I felt awful. This age really scares me, they get into danger so quickly even when I think everything around them is safe...they somehow find a way to get in trouble.

Hey everyone..
We had a rough night over here last night, Drew is battling that cold and didn't really eat much yesterday and as I feared he was up quite a bit last night. I finally gave him 4oz around 2:30 and he slept till 5:30 when he was then up for the day. (He's already back down for his nap at 7:15am, oh how i wish I could go back to sleep! ;)) Anywho, I wanted to share some recent pictures since I had some time.
(Does Snapfish work in here? Guess we'll find out..)

We went to this cute kid's farmland a couple of weeks ago and given Drew's fascination with the cats of late, he was in animal heaven here.

Gearing up for football season- (he'll crawl around the whole house carrying something, this time it was with the football).

And one more... this one cracks me up- the hazards of now sharing a bathtub with your older brother. (Connor loves to "help" wash him..Drew, not so much into it;))

Darn! Snapfish doesn't work. Photobucket keeps shutting down when I open it, what other photo sites work on here?

Brady I uploaded my photos to walmart.com photo site and that works. I have just been using that because then my family can order prints from them if they want. Sorry about the rough night-I'm right there with you. Wyatt's cold is hopefully getting better-I've been giving him vapor baths at night and put Vicks BabyRub on him along with Motrin before bed. I hope Drew is feeling better soon! Oh, Wyatt only had 8oz in bottles yesterday at the sitters. When I got home I discovered that he wanted to sit upright for bottles, so was able to get one into him while he was in his high chair-maybe it would work for you? I can't wait to see your pictures!

la_Mer I just gave him a really small amount-I do have chicken puree that I bought in the cupboard that I should probably have given him first. Oh well, he enjoyed the real deal-he had some again last night.

Sashi Maybe Ollie was just comforted that your DH was with him helping him sleep.

Sounds like a bunch of us are having sleep issues for one reason or another! I hope it gets better for everyone soon! Last night Wyatt woke up at 2:45, I gave him a bottle & rocked him back to sleep. Every time I put him in his crib he would wake up and cry though. I ended up taking him back to bed with me at 4:30, but he still only slept a couple 30 minute stretches & of course, I can't get back to sleep like that because I'm paranoid he'll fall off the bed. So, I've been up since 2:45-UGH!! On a good note, I'm taking Friday off since my daycare provider is taking the day off to help her daughter with her brand new baby that was born yesterday. I'm hoping for a good nap for both of us that day!

So, I just had to share a nice comment I heard today from a parent at the mall (finally a parent that was watching their child. But, the little girl was looking at Drew's head and called over to her mother and said- "this little boy has spots on his head." His mother looked and said, "No, those are just special marks that God gave him" and she referenced some book they read once (I so wish I had asked what the book was!). But, I am not at all religious, and I was welling up as that was the best response I had heard yet in regards to his strawberry marks. The girl just said- okay! and went on playing. ;)

Sorry everyone is having sleep issues, I hope they get better and your LOs sleep.

Tammie ~ cute pictures of Tripp & Sophie.

Lisa ~ Hope all is well with Aaron, you and your DH. Wow 20 lbs already, he's going to be a big boy. My niece had the same thing a month ago, luckily Addison and her brother didn't get it.

mcgwigan ~ love the Halloween outfit. I haven't figured out what Addison will be. Too many options. ;)

Brady ~ cute pictures of Drew. I haven't been on Photobucket in a while, I'll have to see if get any errors. That was a very nice comment that lady said.

Thank you everyone on their suggestions for car seats. I think I have it narrowed down to 4.
1) Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2919722)

2) Evenflo Triump Advance Deluxe (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2734224)

3) The First Years True Fit (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3115459)

4) Alpha Omega Elite 3 in 1 (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3091042)

Everything is going good on our end. Addison is pulling up on everything. Still no teeth but her gums are getting very white so I hope one comes through soon.

Does anyone wear Tall or Petite? Old Navy has a new line for both sizes and they sent me a coupon. It's $10 off a $50 purchase. I'm tall, but not tall enough of "Tall" and petite, I'm far from! LOL. Anybody want the coupon code?

LaMer - Will you send me whatever information I need to order from diapers.com? I keep getting the $10 off coupon in the mail so I was going to give it a try, but thought I'd put your name in instead of the coupon if it gives us both $10 off.

tammie The code is MESA3828, I was just reading the FAQs and it said they use an anonymous (but unique to me) code so we can post it on message boards etc, so anyone can use it to use me as a referral.

brady Sorry to hear you have a cold going around your house too. I am so not looking forward to Leo being in daycare in the winter. Drew is so cute, he looks like such a happy little baby. I'm not religious either but I like how that mom handled the situation. Drew is perfect just the way he is.

megan Cute costume, and a real score. I have to think about a costume for Leo, but then again we don't usually do anything for Halloween and we don't get many trick-or-treaters around here. Of course that doesn't stop us from buying a bunch of candy, LOL.

Lisa Woah, 20.8, go Aaron!

DelSol I don't know if this is important to you or not, but the Eddie Bauer car seat is rated one of the safest in terms of having low levels of toxic fumes from chemicals in the car seat. My friend who is very concerned about environmental hazards chose that car seat for that reason.

Here is a link to the site with the ratings if anyone is interested;

http://www.healthycar.org/carseat.using.php

It's interesting, a seat like the Britax Marathon got very different results based on the fabric used for the cover. The one I got (denim) wasn't rated but I figured since it has the most cotton it probably is lower on volitile chemicals (that's what I tell myself anyway).

I had so many good intentions of only buying "safe" toys and products for Leo but I find that the choices are so overwhelming and it takes so much time to research everything that I'm not being as vigilant as I wanted to be.

Since we are sharing pics, here is one from last week.

Let's see. Her ped's office called with the referral for her head. It's for the Physical Medicine/Rehab center. They're going to evaluate the spot on her head and determine if she'll need a helmet. After the reading and research I've done, I think she'll need one. I'm not looking forward to it, but if it helps, that's all that matters. We go in a few weeks for that. I just wish her ped would have referred her immediately instead of making it sound like everything hinged on the x-ray results. Otherwise I could have gotten this taken care of during the summer!

I'm off school Thursday and Friday. That stupid hurricane seems to be coming our direction and they went ahead and cancelled school because the main road through the town where I teach is on an evacuation route. That makes traffic awful when you're just trying to get home and others are trying to evacuate. I don't know if the hurricane is going to get us directly or not, they still aren't completely sure how close it will be to us. If it stays on the track they are saying, it would be a category 3 and we would get the bad side of the storm. I think we're prepared though, but I might pick up some extra water tomorrow while I'm out. We have enough snacks and food that doesn't require heating. I'm hoping our power doesn't stay out for a long time because I don't want to lose my freezer stash of milk. I've been putting ice into gallon bags and putting them in our freezer outside with my milk. That way if the power does go out, that would keep the milk insulated and hopefully keep it frozen longer. I seem to be blessed with a good supply, but it would make me so sad to loose my freezer stash.

I'll be back tomorrow with SO's. I'm still going to take the baby to the daycare tomorrow for a few hours so I can get some things done (hopefully go get a pedicure!)

LaMer-Cute picture! I think Leo and Drew look somewhat alike.. :)

Delsol- good luck with the car seat! let us know what you decide. I'm going to check out that link that LaMer sent myself in case we decide to just get Drew a new one.

Pookie- What a pain about having to wait for all of this with Kassidy's head. Having somewhat gone through it, I know what you mean about just coming to terms with the helmet and being for the best. I did a lot of research too and it really is so amazing what the band/helmet can do in such a short amount of time. Kassidy will thank you for it later, I'm sure! Good Luck with the appt.

Pookie I stumbled across a thread about helmets yesterday & didn't know if you've seen it : It's here (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24451)
They have some pictures of helmets on babies there & they are really cute! I never knew that they had "designer helmets". I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this, but she will not remember it and will be glad that you did it as she gets older. My SIL babysits a baby that has quite a severe deformity of his head-laying on his back all.the.time caused it to cone out on the sides and it was pretty much football shaped. I'm always sad for him that his parents don't pursue any sort of helmet for him because it affected his facial features. It has gotten a bit better since he learned to sit up and everything, but I'm sure it will never be fully better.

Brady I think Leo & Drew look alike too! Amazing-are you sure you aren't related to La_Mer? I see you must have been up early again this morning-is the sleep any better? Very cute pictures of Drew, btw! What is that tub seat that you have him in? That's just what I need for Wyatt! Guess I need to look at BRU website for something like that.

la_mer Leo is such a cutie!! I noticed when I took my car seat out of the box that it was quite fumey ( I have the Evenflo Triumph) and I left the windows down in my car all weekend when I installed it.

tgoody3 Nope, I'm 5'4", which they say I should be able to wear petite, but they end up being too short, regular lengths are too long and talls-I won't even go there!:)

Elie 12 months size full time-yipee! I've got an assortment of 3-6, 6-9 and 12 months-it's just too funny that he can wear such a range right now-of course it depends on the brands.

Ugh-I am so ready for regular sleep again. Last night I went to bed before 9 because I was so tired & have a cold. DH woke me up at 1:15 and 4:15 to get Wyatt. Gee-thanks! This morning I didn't have much to say to him & he wondered what was wrong. I never went back to sleep after getting up at 4:15 and now I feel positively ill. I think I'm going home at noon today to take a nap! When I took Wyatt to daycare this morning, I go there early and was able to get him down for a nap before I left-he had basically been up since 5. His nose is a faucet!

Ay yi yi.. I just ran in to get something out of the basement for Connor, and when I came out I didn't see Drew (I had left him in the middle of the floor near his toys).. well, he was around the bend as he had pulled himself up TWO STEPS and was on the little landing at that point. Time to get out the gates!!! I used to be able to put him in the sunroom to play while I made dinner, but he already figured how to pull himself up the little dip and gets himself right into the kitchen in seconds. This kid, I swear he will be walking by 9 months. I am afraid, very afraid... ;)

Ha, I am def. not related to LaMer.. if anything, maybe my husband is, since Drew is the spitting image of him,he looks nothing like me.

Last night was better here sleepwise, I gave him a little tylenol before bed so I don;t know if that was the trick or what.. he also ate much better too yesterday during the day which I'm sure helped. We'll see what tonight is like as after that we are headed to sleep he$$, aka- my parents house. :)

Brady Ooh, yikes! I'm glad I'm not dealing with crawling yet! I keep telling Wyatt that all I really wanted him to do was to be able to sit up and play with his toys-he seems to have listened!;) I'm glad though that we have a ranch house with finished basement, so all I have to do is keep the basement door closed. There's a lock on it too, once he figures door knobs out.

I ended up leaving work at 1:00 today and came home & took a much needed nap-it was a whole hour and I feel tons better. I picked up a cushioned mat for our bath tub today and some cool little pouring cups to play with and Wyatt had a great time in the tub! I don't dare take both hands off of him for longer than a second, but it worked out well-he loved that I stood him up to wash his little tooshie!

Brady: My goodness, he's all over the place! Do you think the difference is because he wants to keep up with Connor? That's the sweetest comment that mom made to her little girl. It probably would have made me cry!

Megan: I hope Wyatt feels better soon and his sleep gets better. Glad you were able to take a nap. I saw that thread, I did a search the other day and read a few and bumped that one up.

Mer: I agree, Leo and Drew do look alike! He's adorable!

Tammie: I wish I could afford to take the coupon code, but thanks for letting me know that Old Navy is now carrying tall sizes. I always have to buy my pants at Gap because they are the only ones that carry a small enough size in a long length!

Lisa: Man, Aaron is a big boy!

We're getting a hurricane late tonight, early Sat morning. I think we're prepared and I hope this is the worst hurricane that hits here in my lifetime. The last "bad" one I was only 4 and don't remember much of. Hopefully we're not without power for too long.

I started giving Kassidy bananas this week. It's more like breastmilk with a little bit of banana, but it works. She's doing well with it. I'm thinking when I made the sweet potatoes that I didn't make them runny enough and that's why she wasn't too impressed. I'm going to try adding more BM to those to see if she likes them more.

Hi everyone! It's been too long. I have been reading along when I can but I have been crazy at work and too busy at home to post.

mcgwigan ~ Andrew wore that chicken costume for his 2nd Halloween - his first he was only 5 days old! It is absolutely adorable on (http://images1.snapfish.com/3479%3B%3A856%7Ffp342%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B69%3E446%3E WSNRCG%3D32335942%3B5398nu0mrj) .

Pookie ~ We were pretty close to getting Ethan a helmet but his head seems to have finally rounded out for the most part now that he is sitting so much more. She will be thankful to have a nice shaped head when she is older ;) I hope the hurricane doesn't cause too much trouble for you!

Brady ~ Wow, I can't believe Drew was climbing like that! Even though Ethan has Andrew to watch he doesn't go anywhere yet.

Ethan is doing well he was 7 months yesterday. He got his 2nd tooth and is now sitting by himself a lot. He still isn't crazy about solid food but we have been working on that. I never fed Andrew oatmeal but had some handy and since Ethan didn't seem to want to eat anything else I tried it. He ate that and now I am trying to mix stuff into it. He really isn't in to food AT ALL. He is also in the crappy sleeper category. I am not sure what it is lately maybe because he won't eat! He is waking up at least twice at night. I hope everyone is doing well and I will try to keep up better now that my work project is over for the most part.

Pookie Hoping the hurricaine isn't too bad-please update as soon as you can afterwards to let us know you're OK! I'm sure Kassidy will come around to food in no time!

S&S Cute pic of Andrew in that costume! I'm hoping it fits Wyatt OK! Wyatt goes back & forth with solids-it's a love/hate relationship I think-LOL! Actually I think he wants to be able to eat real food and isn't so fond of the purees other than having fruit mixed in with oatmeal-he loves that. He loves when I give him real chicken & those puffs-he was not at all impressed with pureed chicken (DH wouldn't even look at it because it grossed him out-I thought it was funny!)

Hope every one has a good weekend!

Hi everyone! This will be quick, but yes the hurricane is almost here! It's supposed to really hit us around 1 am or so. Our windows are taped up and we have tons of water and food. I was actually supposed to be on call tonight but luckily everyone I work with knew I couldn't because of the kids and the possibilty I'd get stranded at the hospital (it tends to flood around there a lot). Turns out my husband got stuck being on the "ride out" team for his hospital, and is forced to ride out the storm there so he's not even home. Luckily I have a friend staying with us which makes me feel better. None of our neighbors left so there are a lot of people around if I need them, but it's still scary. I really hope we don't lose power but that's pretty likely to happen. At least I'll still be able to read and post to CC from my iPhone :)
I was so busy this week because I had a big presentation to give, but I've been following. I'll do some so's soon (too hard on phone!) and also have great pictures of Emma to post.
Pookie I know I asked you before but where do you live? It's a suburb, right? I hope everything is ok for you! It's gotten REALLY dark and is starting to get windy too!
I'll be back with hopefully nothing to report!

Kristi & pgbg, STAY SAFE!! I have a friend near Houston who went to stay with her ILs in Austin and a friend in Austin. I hope that area stays safe. I'm worried about damage to my friend's house outside of Houston. I hope all you guys stay safe!!!

Halloween: we've been trying desperately to get Aaron a Jack Jack Incredible costume to go with Jackie's Violet and Seth's Dash but they are selling for so much on Ebay! If we lose the one we're bidding on now (we're not going above $25-30 and some of them have gone for over $50!!) we'll just get him a cute dinosaur costume and forget all 3 of them doing the theme. I wanted to try to make a Jack Jack but Scott would prefer we buy one. Oh well. We'll take them trick or treating here and they also have it at Scott's office.

Seth's bday party is a week from tomorrow and we're expecting rain... not good considering it's a backyard party! We are expecting 20 kids and 28 adults!!!! :eek:

Aaron only slept well 1 night this week, all the others he's been up about every hour, so I'm pooped!! He's feeling 100% better so I think he just got used to being nursed and/or rocked to sleep when he was sick. He goes in for naps w/o crying and w/o his binky so I don't get why he won't put himself back to sleep at night w/o crying. We try letting him CIO a bit at night but we're afraid he'll wake Jackie & Seth. Another back step from his being sick is tummy time. We finally got him to not scream on his belly and now he starts screaming the second he put him down. He still won't roll and doesn't scoot himself back as much. He just sits there and screams... OY!

I hope all those in Texas are baring down and doing well. I'm nervous for you all as I watch the TV. Beautiful Galveston and Houston...

Been rough around here lately. Not with Ollie fortunately. He now has 4 teeth (2 on the bottom, 1 eye tooth and 1 middle tooth on the top). Of course, the top teeth are not together so we are just waiting on the other middle tooth and the other eye tooth. The sleeping issues we had were because of the ear infection and he had no signs of one. I suggest if anyone is having severe angry baby in the middle of the night to at least go get their ears checked.

Me and Ollie are home this weekend by ourselves. This morning was great, he slept throuogh the night 8pm - 6am. He was calm enough for me to get a shower and do my hair, makeup and pump! He had a bottle at 6:30am (usual) and breakfast at 8:30am (usual). He fell asleep around 9, i could tell he was tired. We were trying to fold laundry and he wsa just PISSED! He'll probably sleep until 10 if I'm lucky. I'm doing laundry and it's on the 2nd floor, i hope it doesn't wake him. I also put him down in just a diaper as he was a little warm and i didn't feel like him throwing up on clothes. We are going out with a friend of mine for some lite shopping and late lunch a little later today. I hope he is good. He really doesn't do well in the stroller, would rather be in the carrier. This is going to be a huge problem as he is about to weigh out of the bjorn. I have a babyhawk but he loves being forward facing. oh well....we're going to have to deal with it at some point. I have a very hard time not giving him his way!

Halloween - Like I said before, I want to dress him as Oliver Twist. I think Old Navy has page boy style caps. They have designs on them but oh well, it's cheaper and easier than ordering off of Etsy from Australia. I was just going to put him in corduroy's and maybe a collared polo shirt or just an oversized t-shirt I'd love to find suspenders (even if they are oversized. I have babylegs which I'll put on under the cordouroys and roll them up. We aren't big on Halloween anyway yet, next year will be fun!

SO's a little later, i'm going to enjoy my quiet time.

pgbg & pookie Yikes-I was watching about the hurricaine on TV this morning-hope you are both doing OK!

Lisa Glad Aaron's feeling better. We regress in the sleep department each time Wyatt has a cold-last time I think it was about 3 weeks before we got back to good sleep. So far this time he seems to be OK with sleep already! I hope it gets better for you soon-oh, & Wyatt does down for naps relatively easily and goes right down at night when I put him down. Those middle of the night wake-ups can go either way for us though! There's been nights where it's taken me over an hour to get him to go back down-not fun!

Sashi I think that i saw the page boy caps at Old Navy and they were plaid I think-I think it would be fine for your costume. I'm dressing Wyatt up and taking the day off work, so I can take him around! I can't really take him trick or treating at night because of bed & I don't think we're going to be able to get DSS to go this year-he thinks he's too cool. (boo-hoo--no candy for us!). I've had Wyatt's ears checked a couple times, so far no ear infections. Oh- you may want to be careful about putting him in just his diaper-Wyatt can easily undo the tabs-it's one of his favorite things!

I think that Wyatt's cold is getting better & I think he's getting a little break from teething so that helps. Last night he didn't wake up til 3, well 2:30-DH was trying to get him to go back to sleep for 30 minutes before he got me up. I got up & fed him 8oz and he went right back to skeep. He still doesn't have enough bottles during the day IMO, for him to be able to go all night without eating, so I basically feed him whenever he wakes up. He's now down for a nice nap, so far he's been down since 9 and it's 10:30 now! I love it when he takes good naps! Oops, up now!

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies. Our power came back on about 8 this evening and I'm so glad! The hurricane was scary, but not too awful. The wind was crazy and we lost part of our fence and shingles off the roof, but that's the most damage that we've seen to our house. Very minimal considering it was such a big hurricane. I've been watching news footage of damage around the city and it's just amazing.

Kassidy did well. I think she was getting tired of the heat and this evening as it was starting to get dark I'm sure she was wondering why exactly we didn't have any lights. This will be a crazy story to tell her when she gets older as today she turned 7 months old!

pgbg: We're in Humble (the northeast side). So was this your first hurricane?

Hi! Thanks to everyone thinking about us here in TX. So we made it through the hurricane, very unscathed -- we didn't lose power, except for a few seconds a couple of times during the night when the storm was here. It was scary with the high winds and a lot of noise, but all in all like Pookie we're fine and it could have been so much worse! I'm glad to hear you got your power back, so I don't feel as bad telling you I never lost mine! :p I have a lot of friends still without power or water, which I think would be worse, and one is still staying with me since my husband is still locked in at MD Anderson (and I hope they let him come home today, but I guess it depends if others can get in). I have another friend who wants to come shower today :) My cable is even working, and I'm amazed at the damage. I'm still not sure if I have to go in to work tomorrow, but I'm hoping daycare will be open and we can get back to normal.
Here are some pictures of Emma from her 6 month portraits:

pgbg: Glad you guys are alright! I figured a lot of areas closer to downtown didn't lose power or didn't lose it very long. We lose power in our house some days just when the wind blows! We were also surprised our dish is still working considering the beating it must have taken in the wind! Hope your DH gets to come home soon, but with this rain, who knows! Emma's pictured turned out great...she is so cute and those blue eyes are to die for!

Pgbg & Pookie Glad to hear you guys made it through without too much damage! pgbg Those pictures of Emma are great! I espescially like the last one! She's soo cute!!

Wyatt has all of a sudden gotten very clingy. It started yesterday afternoon & I was chalking it up to him being tired. He would be playing & then start to cry and hold his hands out to me to be picked up. Everytime I've put him down he wants to be picked back up. He doesn't even want me to sit by him to play-he wants to be in my lap to play. He was the same this morning and did the same to DH when he took him from me. I'm not sure what it's about-if he's tired, or doesn't feel good or what. I hope that he's not like that after his nap. I can wear him in my baby b'jorn for about an hour before my back starts to hurt. I just can't hold him all.day.long!

pookie and pgbg- so glad you are both okay and everything is intact. Scary stuff.

pgbg- Emma is so adorable.. what great pictures.
sparkle-Ethan is a cutie! Love the shades.

Lisa- I keep meaning to ask, is Aaron completely weaned from his paci now? Sorry about the bad sleep. I hope you got the bday party in without the rain!

finger foods anyone? Is anyone else doing puffs/cheerios, etc.? Drew is absolutely obsessed with feeding himself. He would so much rather do it himself than my feeding him on a spoon. He'd eat just puffs if I let him... so, I've been giving him some broken up cheerios and rice krispies as well, and some tiny pieces of bread and banana. He is in heaven. :p It's like he can't just sit in his high chair/booster if he doesn't have food in front of him. The kid is addicted to puffs and will stuff like 3 in his mouth at once if I don't watch him. He def. has the pincer grasp and the chewing motion down, but I don't know how much more I can really do at this age in terms of finger food type things. My older son I was convinced he needed teeth before he ate anything not on a spoon.. but have since learned that really- they get two little bottom and top teeth- and those aren't involved in chewing at all. lol. (Drew is still toothless). Anyways- so yeah, my kid loves to eat.

In other accomplishments this weekend, he successfully figured out how to pull himself UNDER the exersaucer to play. He is such a monkey.

Brady Yep-Wyatt is totally addicted to puffs. He doesn't have the pincer grasp yet-working on that, so he gets some in & some just stick to his hand or fall & he sits there chewing, like there should be something in his mouth LOL! I've also given him tiny pieces of chicken & ham-we have to put them in his mouth for him for the most part though. He loves it & I can't wait til he gets the pincer grasp down & can start giving him some more finger type foods. He does however, choke on a puff still every now and then, so I have to really watch him!

Wyatt is getting his top right tooth now. Explains his clingy-ness this weekend! I can see just a corner of it, so I would like to think it will be through in a few days here. He's definately miserable. I've been feeding him his bottles while he watched Teletubbies because that has been pretty much the only way I've been able to get him to take bottles for the last two days!

I am so dreading teething...

You can always hope that Drew will be one of those who is not bothered by it! I think that Wyatt tends to be on the sensitive side with stuff like that.

I forgot about it, but Friday they called me to let me know that Wyatt's surgery for his undescended testicle will be on 11/12 :(. It's a Monday, I was hoping that it would be Wednesday or later so I could take the rest of the week, then be at home with him over the weekend. For now I'll just be taking Monday & Tuesday that week off then playing the rest of it by ear. I'd hate to send him to the babysitter's if he's in pain from it. From what I've heard he'll be fine though! Doesn't keep a mommy from worrying though!

Yipee! I got Wyatt's Halloween costume in the mail today! I can't wait to try it on him :D. Will probably be a little big becuase I got a 12 month size, but I'm thinking only a little big-didn't want to risk it being too small by the time Halloween gets here!

Here's what we got Aaron for Halloween. We tried and tried to win a Jack Jack Incredibles costume for him to go with Jackie's Violet and Seth's Dash costumes, but we refuse to pay $40+ for a costume for our baby... Most of them were going for close to $50!!! :eek: Anyway, here's what Scott picked this morning that we got from One Step Ahead.
http://content.onestepahead.com/assets/images/product/detail/13538_1.jpg

Aaron's been sleeping better the past few nights since we agreed to let him CIO. He still wakes up several times a night but he cries for just 1-2 minutes and goes back to bed. I'm hoping that dies out soon so I can fully sleep through the night w/o waking up at all, but this is definitely better than it was!!

I don't know where my sweet kids went but Jackie & Seth seemed to forget how to listen. All they have been doing the past few weeks is run around and scream. We're getting as strict as we can with discipline and it works for a day and then they are back to being crazy. I'm at my wits end and I pray it gets better ASAP! I used to pride myself with how well they listened and behaved but not anymore... :( I've been so cranky because of this lately (this and the no sleep)...

We have school pics for the kids on Friday, Seth's 3 year pics on Saturday and his party on Sunday. Tomorrow my mom will be helping me fix up my garden all day while the kids are in school, so we have a very busy week ahead of us (what else is new?)

~~~
Sashi, I hope you enjoyed your quiet weekend!
Megan, I hate when that happens with kids... a few bad nights of sleep due to being sick and you have to start all over again... *sigh* The clinginess can be the start of separation anxiety. Are you sure 11/12 is a Monday? I'm just asking since 11/13 is Scott's bday and my calendar shows it's a Thursday....
Sparkle, OMG those pics are just too precious! I love the shades! LOL
Kristi & pgbg, I'm so happy that you guys are safe and have no real damage! PHEW!!!
pgbg, gorgeous pics!
Brady, we pretty much only give him a binky if he's really overtired and not in his crib (i.e. in the stroller or yesterday in the PNP at IL's). He no longer needs it to fall asleep at nap or bed time and since we're having him CIO when he does get up at night, no binky then either. We had left them in the crib and I found him playing with one this morning and he gave me such a devil smile, it was so cute! But I took them and put them in the diaper drawer. He's been off them during the day since we were told to a month ago and he doesn't seem to miss them! Those pics are too cute!
~~~

Finger foods: I'm going to try to have him feed himself potatoes again tonight and see how that goes. He seems to be able to do it since he did the first time, but not want to do it. As for toddler type finger foods, there's not many we can give him until he's 8-9 months old since the allergist wants us ot avoid wheat until then. Maybe I'll try some Cheerios though...

Are you sure 11/12 is a Monday

Oops-misstyped-11/10!-yep, it's a Monday!

Lisa That is such a cute costume! I don't blame you for not wanting to shell out for a costume-it's not like it's for them anyways!LOL-it's really for us! Sorry that Seth & Jackie are not listening. Maybe they'll settle back down once they get adjusted to school? I was wondering about seperation anxiety, but doubtful since he did the same thing with DH when I was in the same room. He was also just fine when I left him at daycare this morning & just looked at me and smiled & shrieked when I said goodbye -it's too funny!

Food Since we're on the subject. Do I need to wait for a certain age to try yogurt? I picked some up last week & was going to try it over the weekend, but didn't. It's good until early October, so I can either try it before then or let DSS eat it. Lisa did you just cut up some boiled potatoes for him? We gave Wyatt some mashed potatoes over the weekend & he really enjoyed them! Although, I'd rather him have something else that's a bit better nutritionally!:rolleyes:

OK Aaron just had his first cheerios and LOVES them!! I fed him one at a time and he leaned forward with his mouth open when he wanted more! Of course Jackie & Seth want to shove a whole handful in his mouth... oy!!

Megan, I thought you mistyped either the day or the month! LOL I made sweet potaotoes for him that I just mashed with my fork and put on his tray. The first time I added a tiny drop of EBM to it but now I don't really need to.

As for yogurt, our ped says 9 months is ok to start, but every doc says something different. It's getting so hard for me to give Aaron variety when we have to avoid wheat, dairy, eggs, peas and soy.... Poor kid, I don't want him to get bored with his food!

mcgwigan
09-15-2008, 01:19 PM
Lisa My pediatrician has never really said anything about waiting on anything. So I didn't really get much guidance there. He was very spitty uppy when I was breast feeding and drank/ate milk products. I'll probably wait a bit longer on the yogurt. I'm sure Aaron won't get bored with his food. Look how long he had only BM! LOL!

Yeah, I'd wait on the dairy if I were you, just to be sure. I think I'm going ot make my own mixes for Aaron to switch up the taste of things... he can't have the mixed veggies since they have peas but I can mix carrots and green beans for him and stuff like that...

Sorry I have to make this quick but I have a food allergy question for you guys. Leo has always had a bit of eczema but now it's getting worse. It's in little patches all over his chest, around his neck and on his back. The only new thing we introduced last week are bananas, but he hasn't had them since Thursday and it's still getting worse. Nothing else has really changed. Should I stop feeding him solids completely for a few days? He's just starting to enjoy eating and now I'm not sure what to feed him.

We had a big day today, we toured his new daycare and Leo cut his first tooth!

LaMer - I don't know what to tell you about the breakouts and allergies. Maybe Eliezrah can help!? Congrats on the tooth and his daycare! Why the change?

Eliezrah - What an adorable costume! That really is adorable. Can't wait to see him wear it.

Mcgwigan - How did his costume fit? Ollie does the same thing with food that you described of Wyatt. Just fists it and sticks his whole fist in his mouth. Are there organic puffs out there? He likes his organic smiley snacks (like cherrios) but I think they are a bit big for him, he chokes a little sometimes if he successfully gets a whole one in his mouth. Maybe i should just break them and make them smaller (they are like twice the size of a cherrio). They moisten fairly quickly in saliva though.

S&S - GREAT PICTURES! He's gorgeous! You look fabulous by the way!!

PGBG - Emma is just precious. The big blue eyes. Those pictures are unbelievable! Glad the storm didn't get you too bad.

Pookie - Glad the storm didn't get you to to bad. I'm sorry about your DH's shore house and the shingles on your roof! Please let us know how the progress goes on getting things cleaned up.

Brady - Drew is just adorable! (Congrats about connor pooping in the toilet too!) I can't believe Drew is so mobile! Oliver just gets on all fours and cries. He soooo badly wants to crawl. This kid is so much like me and DH it's sick. I didn't even realize how similar we were but if we can't do somehing we get so down on ourselves. He's very hard on ourselves. I think we have a hard worker (me and DH) on our hands but a sensitive one at that (like me).

Yogurt - I gave it to him about a month ago. The YoBaby Yogurt. He likes it just like he likes everything else, doesn't love it. No reaction to it whatsoever. I give it to him on the weekends sometimes. Mixed with Banana or Mango, very good! I could understand holding off. Honestly though, if he has an allergy to it, it's probably better to know it early so you know what to avoid.

Oliver is 'trying' desperately to crawl. He actually made what i would call his first knee today at daycare and then again today at night. He puts the one knee forward, one hand forward (like a first step) and then starts to whine. My prediction is that he'll be crawling before the end of the week.

Our bathroom renovation that has been going on since June is ALMOST COMPLETE. The bathroom though is finally usable starting tomorrow morning. The shower glass just got installed today. We had the mirror put up on Friday. What drama! I'm so glad it's almost overwith. And I'm so glad we all doon't have to use the same bathroom now, i was sick of being cramped into a bath the size of a half bath.

We went back to the doctor today because i thought his ear infection was back. It's not, both ears are looking clear and great according to the doc. So happy to hear that. He was sooooo good on Friday and Saturday nights, no wakeups STTN. Last night was not drama free, he didn't go to sleep until 9 because he only napped from 4-6:30pm! He would not nap all day! And daycare had a heck of a day getting him to nap too. I thought it was his ear but we are clear! She said it's probably teething. I think so too because the one eye tooth seems ready to pop! I can't believe he'll have 6 teeth before he's 8 months old!!!!!

Our guys and gals are getting soo big!

pgbg - glad you are your family are ok. Cute pictures of Emma.

Brady - thought of you when I looked at this article, I hope it can help.
Finger Foods (http://www.babycenter.com/0_finger-foods_105.bc) I want to try and give Addison different finger food but I'm scared since she doesn't have any teeth. I have given her some watermelon, this past weekend. She loves her puffs and I gave her a wagon wheel yesterday and today.

mcgwigan - I hope Wyatt's top tooth comes in fast.

Lisa - cute halloween outfit for Aaron.

la_Mer - I would stop the bananas and since he's starting to get into food, feed him something he has already had that he didn't have a reaction to, this way he still gets his solids. Woo hoo for his first tooth.

Us- yesterday Addison turned 8 months old. She's so cute. She loves to stand. I keep saying she'll be walking by Halloween. So far, no teeth. I wonder when she'll get them. Tomorrow, we head to Ocean City, NJ for a night with my mom.

Hope everyone is doing good, sorry I haven't been around. I had some laptop issues, still do but I'm on works laptop.

la_Mer, I agree with Dana. It is possible he's reacting to the bananas. A food reaction can stay in your system for 1-2 weeks. When Jackie reacted to her peanut challenge, her rash didn't go away, even with an RX cream, for almost 2 weeks. I'm curious, has he had avocados? Are there any latex allergies in your family? Avocados, kiwi, latex and bananas are all related. Definitely don't stop all foods if he's had food with no reaction. Once it's all cleared up, you can try bananas again to see if they are the culprit. We've done that with Aaron and found out something else caused his eczema; with him humid or very hot weather (even if we're inside) can cause it. How's the weather been by you? Yipppee for his tooth!

Sashi, so exciting with almost crawling!!

Dana happy 8 months! Don't worry about the teeth, I was watching soem home videos the other day and when Seth was about 8 1/2 months old I was saying that he had just cut his first tooth...

Forgot to say... GUESS who STTN last night? We put him in at 7:40 after nursing (he was awake) and he fussed but didn't cry for a few minutes. He cried at 10 pm for a bit longer than usual (and I think I know why since he had a dry dirty diaper when he woke up this morning so he slept in it all night.. yech!) and not a peep outta him until 6:30 when he woke up chit chatting and not crying!! YIPPEEE!!

DelSol- I know with my older son I wanted to wait until he had teeth to eat finger type foods also, but I soon learned it really doesn't make a difference and they don't chew with their front teeth, you know? They just need to know how to make the chewing motion to gum their food. Connor only had 4 teeth by the time he was 1 but he was eating most everything (or trying to!) at that point, I think he was pretty much done with purees by 11 months IIRC. With Drew though I still feel nervous giving him some of the things on that list, like pasta, but I don't know why... maybe I'll try some little pieces or make ditalini and see how he does. Have a nice trip to NJ.

I'm really wishing I could get Drew into a Gymboree or Little Gym type class. This kid is such a mover/climber. Connor only has preschool for 2.5 hours though and Drew usually comes home and naps after we drop him off, so we couldn't really swing anything in that short amount of time. I could do a Sat. class maybe, or look into a family one.. but not sure if Connor would like Gymbo as much at 3.5 as he did at say, 1.5....

ETA- Awesome Lisa about Aaron last night!

Sashi-Sounds like Oliver is on his way to crawling! Did you give Ollie just the plain YoBaby yogurt? I think I'll pick some of that up at the grocery store today to try something different.

LaMer-Sorry about the excema. I don't have any advice on allergies though.. I do have a friend though that has a little boy that is now 2 and has always been battling it, she's been trying a bunch of lotions, etc. as it doesn't seem to be food related- so I do think it can go either way. Yay on the 1st tooth!

S&S I meant to say before, I like Ethan's sunglasses!! He's so cute in them-does he leave them on?

La_Mer I don't like bananas & they actually hurt my mouth whenever I have tried them. My brother is the same way & so is one of my nephews & a niece-all my side of the family. I'd maybe try them with him again maybe in a month or so-you never know! I hope his eczema gets better-Wyatt gets it pretty bad from Huggies lotion-it's pretty heavily scented, oh, he also broke out quite a bit from the Aveeno baby sunscreen that's fragrance free. Cetaphil seems to help it clear right up for us. Congrats on the tooth!

Sashi I'm not sure if there are organic puffs-I really should look, they sure don't need all the "junk" that's in stuff now! I started out breaking the puffs into 2 for Wyatt, so maybe you'd want to break his smiley's up until he stops choking or gagging. I didn't try the costume on Wyatt last night-he was sleeping when we got home, then grumpy.:rolleyes:

DelSol Thanks for posting that link! Watermellon sounds like a good idea-I'll have to pick some up.

Lisa that's interesting about the avacados, bananas & kiwi all being related & latex too! Huh! Weird-I'm fine with eating avacados-not kiwi or bananas & lates doesn't bother me, strange. Sounds like a good idea to make your own mixes. Yay for the good sleep!!

Brady I cut an elbow noodle up for Wyatt and gave him a piece and it must have slipped right to the back of his mouth and he really choked on it-scared the crap out of me! I will not give him pasta for a while because of it! DH wanted me to cut some spaghetti up for him last night, but I wouldn't-he had sweet potatoes instead.:) Sounds like Drew is keeping you busy with his mobility!:D

Happy belated 7 months to Wyatt's b-day buddies-Drew & Aaron!! Of course I didn't take pics yesterday morning & he was quite grumpy last night, but I got some good pictures of him in the tub before bed. I think we're back on track with our sleep since he's just been waking up once. Of course, we've got a vaccination appointment today, so we'll see what happens with that.

Just a quick post for La Mer -- DS had bad eczema, and our pedi gave us a prescription for Acid Mantle cream with hydrocortisone that worked wonders. BUT it wasn't food related at all...we were in Pittsburgh and it was winter so the air was dry, we had a cat at that time (there was recently a study that came out linking eczema to cats -- not a causative factor, but one that can bring it out if the kid is already susceptible. It was interesting at least...don't know if you have a cat), and he pretty much grew out of it. I would talk to your pedi, although I know all are different. I'd just hate for you to drive yourself crazy changing his food all around and have it not help.
Be back later!

Thank you, thank you everyone for your advice on the eczema. It was so scary to see it pop up everywhere all of a sudden. It probably is the bananas, I just never thought of bananas as being an allergenic food. Lisa, thanks for the info on the link between avocado, bananas and latex. I was looking over my "food notes" for Leo and he did have some suspicious diaper rash after I gave him avocado very early on. Now I'm trying to think about what to try next. My friend who had a baby in Morocco was telling me about the "soups" they make for infants. It's basically rice, some vegetable like zucchini and a tablespoon of olive oil pureed. It sounds good? Does anyone know if zucchini is allergenic? Has anyone tried it yet?

sashi We are switch to daycare for two reasons. The first is that our nanny is going back to school in October and also we were offered a spot in my work daycare (which is run by Bright Horizons) so it's close by. We can have full time care for the same amount per month we were paying our nanny for two days!! I'm sad he won't be getting the one on one attention he has been but there are only 11 kids and 5 teachers in his room so he will still get a lot of attention. I'm sure Ollie will get the hang of crawling soon. Are you ready? LOL.

dana Wow 8 months! Have a great time in Ocean City. Is that where the boardwalk with Mac and Manko's pizza and Johnson's popcorn is? My DH talks about it all the time. We order the popcorn for holiday gifts every year.

Lisa Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure how long I would have to wait to be sure it was out of his system. The weather here is typical, in the 60s and foggy, which is what it is like all year round. Yay for STTN! What a gift.

brady I'm glad you mentioned finger foods, I was going to ask when it was ok to start things like Cheerios. I think Leo would LOVE to feed himself. I think I'll look for puffs at the store. It also worries me to give them real solids when they don't have teeth, but you are right, they don't chew with the front teeth anyway. I try to be very careful with any soap/lotion I put on Leo since I can tell he has mommy's sensitive skin.

megan That is interesting about bananas, I always thought they were very benign but I guess not! I don't use anything scented on Leo, if his soaps/lotions are the issue he's going to have to be bathed in pure water since I don't think I could find anything gentler :p. Happy 7 months to Wyatt!

pgpg I'm so glad to hear that you made it through the storm ok. I can't believe your DH was locked in at the hospital! Yes, our ped told me to use 1% hyrocortizone cream on the few spots he had when we were there last. I wasn't comfortable using it all over his body after it spread. It definitely helps clear up the problem areas. We don't have a cat (DH is allergic) but we do have a dog. I hope the dog isn't an issue since there is no way I can keep them apart. (Leo chases the dog, not the other way around :p). Also. Beautiful pics of Emma, love those blue eyes!

Sparkle Great pics, Ethan is so handsome.

As if there weren't enough "firsts" over the last few weeks Leo has now started standing up in his crib! We had to lower the mattress all the way down so now it's practically on the floor. I blame DH for teaching him to pull up, it was all fun and games until he learned how to do it on his own.

Have a great day everyone!

La Mer - Oliver goes to a Bright Horizons daycare sponsored by my company on-site! We love it. You pay a little extra here but all food is included and honestly, he has the greatest daycare, I love it. Leo is a fast learner!!! Oliver can pull up but only likes to do it on someone, not on furniture or toys yet. i'm not eager for it all to start!

pgbg That's interesting about cats & eczema. We have both a cat & dog and I'm soooo hoping that Wyatt won't be allergic to either of them!

Sashi I haven't given it to him yet, but I bought the flavored yo-baby. Apples and blueberry-I figured I had given him both those fruits already so went for it. I'll probably wait a bit before actually giving it to him though!

la_Mer As far as I'm aware zucchini is not allergenic. I'll have to try that with him tomorrow-I have it and think about it but always end up forgetting! I'll have to write myself a note...:rolleyes:

Sashi I can't remember-is Ollie crawling now? I can't keep track of everyone's mobility here-it's all happening so fast! Wyatt will pull up on someone but hasn't crawled no I'm under the assumption that he won't pull up on his own for a little while yet. I know some babies skip crawling so it really doesn't even make sense that I would think that-oh well!

Here are some pictures: Last night in the bathtub:

And tonight on his swingset outside!

He usually is pretty mellow on the swing and it's hard to get smiles out of him. He's usually too busy looking around and just hanging out. Anyway, I was glad to get some smiles tonight. His teeth are like right there just waiting to come in and he's been pretty grumpy! Plus he had shots today to boot. At least we don't have anymore for a couple months.

Michael suddenly got excema everywhere shortly after we started feeding him. The foods we had tried were really plain (I think rice cereal, carrots, apples, and peas at that point). The dr thought it was more due to the fact that we were bathing him/scrubbing him a lot more often. She suggested we treat the excema without changing his diet to see if it went away, and it did. She just thought he had sensitive skin, which as it turns out, he did. Anyways-food related or not, for the excema she suggested Vanicream (I get mine at Walgreens) and vasoline on his face. I also started using triple paste on his bum where it was dried out around the diaper line. So any of those things may help Leo's skin heal!

Megan ~ Ethan does leave is sunglasses on for the most part. He doesn't wear them that often. Mostly they just look cute ;)

If you want your kids to wear accessories like hats and glasses you have to make sure that you start now and periodically put them on so they stay used to them!

Finger Foods ~
I am not sure if you guys have seen them but there are these great mesh feeder bags that you can use to put foods in so that the baby can self feed but you don't have to worry about choking. I used it to give DS1 beans and fruits in when he was little and I was worried about choking. It kind of strains the food for them so that they can eat it but not get any big chunks in their mouth. So far Ethan isn't interested in it at all.

He did chew on a pickle last night and really liked it!

amy Thanks for the information. Yeah, I'm trying to explore all possible sources for his eczema. I have very sensitive skin so I wouldn't be surprised if it was that. Everything I use on him, from bath soap to laundry detergent is the gentlest I can find. I'll look for the vanicream next time I'm at Walgreens.

I think Leo's eczema is starting to look a little better, especially the stuff on his back. He's only had oatmeal over the past few days so I'm looking forward to trying something new with him soon.

We are headed to Massachusetts this weekend (yeah, pretty much the whole state, LOL). I hope we have some nice weather, but it rains every time I travel to the East Coast, even in the summer!

Wow! LOL!!!! I don't know if I would have even offered that! I just looked at those mesh feeders today since someone else had mentioned I think putting something frozen (fruit maybe?) in them while their DC was teething. I didn't pick one up, but will keep it in mind.

Thanks for the accessory hint too! I do put a cap on Wyatt from time to time, maybe I should do it more often since winter is coming up and he will have to wear a hat.

ETA:La_mer Good luck with the traveling! I hope the weather's nice for you! It's such a crap shot this time of year though!

Wow! LOL!!!! I don't know if I would have even offered that!

It's definitely not something that you would want to offer all the time since it is acidic but I don't think it can hurt them in any way. We only did it because DS1 also liked them! Kind of like when people give a lemon to a baby to see their face - although Andrew also liked lemons too :p

laMer-Right now the forecast looks really good for the weekend here!! Have a good trip.

mesh feeders these are great! I never used them with DS1 and discovered them this time around. I've put frozen peaches and melon in there, fresh banana (although that makes a mess of the bag).. I forget what else. ;) Too funny about liking the pickle. I have a feeling Drew would eat it and like it as he doesn't seem to turn anything down...lol.

Hi Ladies,

We had a great time in Ocean City, NJ but unfortunately on the way home were involved in a car accident. We are ok, I am sore. I am going to the doctor today and I'm taking Addison to her doctor later on today.

I was rear ended at about 50+ mph. We had just onto the 42 Freeway and traffic started to slow and I now realize why, a NJ State Trooper had someone pulled over. I had noticed the girl behind me a while back travel close to me and the truck in front of me put on his brakes so I put mine and she rear ended me. Addison started screaming right after the impact. I kept my Jeep under control and I am so proud of myself for that as if I didn’t keep it under the control this accident would have been a lot worse for us. Since I was able to keep it under control, I didn’t hit anybody else and no one else hit me while I made my way to the median. The girl in the VW Jetta, was able to pull over immediately, I really don’t know if anyone else hit her or not. Her car was all smashed in, in the front and I’m sure her air bag deployed. When I got into the right lane, I was previously in the middle lane, I noticed a green mini-van so I was very luckily not to have hit him. Then when I got over, I looked up and saw the NJ Statie and realized I was in the merge lane so I pulled up to the NJ Statie, my mom got out since I was against traffic and couldn’t get out without being hit. I called 911, of course I had no clue where I was and they dispatched me to NJ State Police since I said there was one in front of me. I was so upset the lady on was telling me to calm down and all I wanted to do was hold Addison and I couldn’t get out of my Jeep. He got my information, of course I had no registration or insurance card on me because DH had my Jeep last week and took it for inspection so he had all my information. I was able to get in touch with him and he gave me my insurance policy number. I felt pretty stupid then, thought for sure I’d get a ticket for that but I didn’t. He filled out a form and told me to wait a week , mail this form into the address on there with a self addressed stamped envelope for an accident report. I don’t even have the girl who hit me information. I can’t even start to file a claim unless I go through my insurance, which I don’t want to do, she is a fault and will be paying for everything.

I know there is more I want to write but Addison is up and needs a bottle.

DelSol Wow! I'm so glad that you & Addison are OK! I really hate when someone follows me too close on the expressway! I hope you're able to claim on the other girl's insurance OK!

S&S Yep, I don't see offering the lemon either! LOL!

Brady Hmmm, maybe I'll try one of those mesh feeders...

Wyatt slept two naps yesterday-a total of 5 hours AND all night last night from 7:30-6:00! :eek: I'm sure it's from the vaccinations that he had on Tuesday, so am not expecting a repeat. I got myself to bed last night by 9:30, so was up at 5:45 and got myself ready for work early. It was nice to have time to actually feed Wyatt some cereal before going to the sitters! I really need to be better about that or at least send it to daycare with him so she'll give it to him there so he can have solids 2 times/day.

Mesh bags - LOVE THEM! And so does Ollie. I never did frozen stuff, just soft fruits. I usually put melons in there as that's typically the only fruit I haven't purree'd yet.

QOTD - Anyone considering teching Baby Sign Language? I don't know when you start, I just remember a few friends on LJ doing it 1.5 years ago with their children. It was big a while ago, doesn't seem like i've heard a lot about it lately.

DelSol - Hope you are all ok! So sorry about the accident! How scary with Addison in the car!!

DelSol ~ I hope that you guys are both okay. I know that sometimes it take a while for some of the aches to set in. I can't imagine how scary that must have been.

mcgwigan ~ Yo must not have any mean friends or family ;) My brothers loved to give DS1 a lemon to see what kind of face he would make. Just to lick not eat though! Hope that nice sleep kept up for you!

I do! Now is a great time to start if you haven't already. Ethan already tries to make the sign for milk! It is great to be able to communicate with each other. I can show him the sign for milk and he gets all excited and tries to copy it when he is hungry. We also did a few signs with Andrew and it really does help with frustration. We only did Milk, More, and Done. They were really handy and you can't imagine how fast they will pick them up!
