Did any of you paint the ceiling of your baby's nursery to resemble the sky? I've seen pictures of this many times online, but am wondering how difficult it is to do... we just purchased our baby boy's bedding and it has little hot air balloons all over it... we want to paint the sky on the ceiling and hang hot air balloons and model planes from it. But, DH (nor I) are very skilled painters. Is it complicated? I know we can stencil, but I'm thinking that would make for too rigid clouds... we want more of a soft, fluffy feel.

Edited to add - if you did this can you post pictures of the outcome? THANKS!

It's not complicated at all. I did the same thing for my baby's nursery. I googled "painting clouds' or "faux painting"or something to that effect and got a bunch of info, but basically I used cheese cloth, and sea sponges to create the clouds. All you need to do is add faux painting mix to the white paint which you can find in small cans at Home Depot and dab it on the ceiling. I alternated cheese cloth and the sponges to give it more translucent effect. I also took pictures of the clouds outside and used them to help me design the clouds (I was making them too perfect/symetrical rather than random). I'll dig up a picture

My cousin and I painted the sky blue w/clouds too and it wasn't at all difficult. We used sea sponges and really all you have to do is add a little glazing medium to the white paint to thin it out a bit. It turned out really well and I plan to do it again in both of my DD's rooms as soon as we move into our new house.

ps: I'd post pics if we had any, but we sold that house and are currently living in a bland, beige rental while we build. sorry!

eta: I thought Benjamin Moore 827 was the perfect shade of blue. good luck!

we have clouds in my dd's room. it was really simple to do. we used the sea spongue and just dabbed on lightly the white untill we got the effect that we wanted. it looks alot like mickey&b room.

I just finished clouds in DS's room yesterday. We used sea sponges and an old t shirt. I would recommend practice on cardboard boxes or something so that you can get your technique consisitent. The clouds I did first don't look as nice as the last ones. The good thing is that clouds are random in shape. I was getting too caught up in making them look perfect.

I second adding a little glazing medium because the paint alone can get thick.
