I was going to start a thread specifically on international adoption, but I did a search and found this thread, so I thought I'd see if we could get it going instead. :)

I'm not sure why I've recently become interested in adoption, but for some reason I'm really starting to think it is something I'm meant to do. It is also appealing to me because I suffer from chronic migraines, and the idea of going off my daily meds to TTC really worries me. I think adoption would be a really good way to start our family without compromising my health. I don't know if I'd be a very good mother if I was sick all the time.

My good friend from law school and her husband are in the process of adopting a baby boy from Korea. It's something she's wanted to do for a long time, and I've always been supportive of her desire to do so, but I didn't know whether it was something I could see myself doing or not.

Has anyone done an international adoption or checked into it? I am an attorney, so I think I could handle some of the legal aspects myself once I'm up to speed, but I really don't even feel like I know where to start. Also, I know that it will be quite expensive, so it isn't something we could do right away because we aren't financially prepared for that expensive. However, I think we'd be ready in the same time frame we would be to TTC.

I'm not locked into the idea of an international adoption, as I'd think it might be slightly more feasible for us to adopt domestically. I do, however, want to adopt an infant. I would adopt an infant of any ethnicity, though I'd probably aim for an African-American or mixed race child because I am white and my husband is black and it just seems that it would make sense. :)

I mentioned this thought to my husband Cliff last night, but he seemed very non-committal. Maybe he thinks I'm just being trendy or something and didn't think I was making a serious suggestion, but he didn't seem very enthusiastic. So obviously, he'd need to be as much behind this as me for it to work out. I guess we'll just have to see about that.

I'm very excited by the idea, though, so I'm going to start doing some research and see where this idea takes me. :)

Hi all! I too am from the WC. On CC there is this thread on Adoption(in the Family Planning section) and another one (in the Pregnancy and Beyond section) called Adoptive Parents and Parents to Be. Thank you for the heads up about the other thread. I'm just dipping a toe into the water with the parenting/family forums, so I did a search and just came up with the one thread. Weird, huh?! I could ask for a ATF Mod to merge this thread into that one, if anyone wants me to. :)

ETA I see from the other thread that the idea is to use that one for the group thread, so I thought I'd mention that here and post the link, in case someone comes across this later. :)
