We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.

We welcome one and all. It doesn't matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

I am attending my cousin's wedding in San Jose on October 18th and I'd like to look GOOD.
I haven't seen most of my family in almost 2 years, since I'm on the East Coast. The last time I saw them, I was 5months pregnant w/ my 2nd/last child.
I have this fabulous red dress, almost strapless except for 2 spaghetti straps that looked great many moons ago, so that dress will be my motivator. Means I have to do a lot of arms workout, to tone up everything.
I know I can lose the weight: I lost ~16 pounds and dropped down to ~18% body fat for my wedding. But that was over 5 years ago, and 2 babies ago.
So it'll be MUCH harder this time around.

I really would like all your support and I'd love to support you.
For my wedding, I had 2 online supporters who were also trying to lose weight for their February wedding, and we were GREAT for each other.
I think the 3 of us lost over 70pounds together.

Okay, it's night time. My usual routine of searching for a 'snack'. I'll try to eat a nectarine, and/or an apple.
I did well today.
Went to a friend's for a BBQ; I didn't eat any of the dessert. I filled up on a spinach salad and Thai tom yom soup, and some grilled pork.
I'm such a wimp: I worked-out on Thursday (1st time back at gym in almost 2 months) and I am kinda sore/muscles tight.
Tomorrow is my big work-out: 1.5hours of weightlifting class. The instructor Kathy is CRAZY. She must be ~50 years old and I don't think she can feel pain. She could do squats w/ 50pound weights all day!!!
Let's see how sore I'll be after that work-out: hahahaha.
Tell me if I'm posting too much.
Off to drink some water (my new best friend).

It's a good day.
I didn't have a snack last night.
I worked out for 1.5hours - weight lifting class.
I went swimming w/ my son for 1.5hours.
I might hurt a bit tomorrow: hahahaha.

Amanda, great job working out and watching your foods at the BBQ! I did horribly yesterday and am paying for it now. But I stocked up on veggies at the grocery store today!
As for weighing in, the weeks run Sunday-Saturday. (so week 1's results would be whichever day you decide to use as your weigh in between July 6 -12.) You can weigh in any day during that week and just post that week's results on the day you weigh in.

Dieting Program: Couch to 5K running program
I'm going to be staring the Couch to 5K as well. My friend at work will be doing it with me and she's on vacation this week so we won't be starting until next Monday. I'm very excited about it and have already started looking for a 5k for us to sign up for sometime in October. We figure it will help keep us motivated if we have actually already signed up for something.

My goal is to lose 10 pounds before school starts so I can get some new clothes for the school year. I have been losing (on average) about 1 pounds a week. Not sure if it will happen, since my IL's are coming into town for 3 weeks. :rolleyes:

I set my alarm for 4:48am this morning to drag my butt to the 5:15am Muscle Conditioning class. But when I got up to shut if off, my body is still so stiff and pained from Sunday's weight-lifting class. I know, I'm a wimp. So I just got back into bed.
But I made up for it for swimming/playing in the pool w/ my 2 kids for almost 3 hours.
So my work-out schedule is:
- Tues: 5:15-6am - Muscle Conditioning class
- Thurs: 5:16-6:15 - Step/Abs class
- Fri: 6-7pm - Muscle Conditioning
- Sun: 8-9:30am - Muscle Conditiong
Please help me stick to this schedule. It's not too extreme (yet). I'll kick it up a notch ~2 weeks before my cousin's wedding.
Note: in case anyone's wondering: No, I rather not wake up at o-dark-hundred to get to the 5:15am class, but that's the only time I can go. My daughter doesn't like babysitters or the gym's 'babysitting', while Daddy is working, so I need to go when kids are still sleeping. And I have almost no energy in the evening. Let's see how that Friday night class goes...
Mystikal: congrats on baby#2-to-be.
I'm 'fun-size' also. :)
I found that I didn't gain a lot (only 19#, compared to 27# w/ DS) w/ my 2nd pregnancy, due to:
- almost 4months of awful morning sickness
but mainly because I was running after my VERY active DS, who's 19months older than his sister.
When pg w/ DS, I did yoga every Monday and swam every Friday, up to the week before giving birth, not to mention many many walks (I had ?sciatica pain, so moving around helped.)
And then the pounds dropped when nursing. Gosh, I wish I could be nursing still: I used to eat TONS!!! and still lose weight while nursing.

I have a loaded gun next to me.
Loaded gun = 1 big bag of Cape Cod reduced fat chips (8.5oz).
I had a really long tiring day w/ the kids. I deserve something, yes?
I'm trying to hold it off, by eating a bowl of watermelon.
I was good all day (food-wise), but dinner was bad: 3 slices of sausage pizza.
But I did go swimming for ~3hours w/ the kids.
Back to work (I work part-time from home as an office manager for a wine store. Yes, I get GREAT employee discounts!!! hehehee).

Yay: got to the gym this morning. Boy, was it hot in the gym. I sweated like a pig.
Weight is still 120.5, so it's not a fluke. On track (even after eating some of that "loaded gun" last night, after stuffing my face w/ watermelon.)
Let's see how I do w/ tomorrow night's work-out (WO), since I am NOT a night WO person.
Did some yard-work (lots of squat-work): weeding. Tons more weeds to pull, since we're trying to stay away from using chemicals so that the kids/dog can play in the yard w/out chemical exposure.
How do you ladies handle the late-night snackings?
We as a family eat EARLY: 5pm.
Since it's ~5-6hours between dinner and bedtime, I feel like I need to eat something. I usually try to keep it to fiber-filling fruit, like apples, but the chips and ice cream SCREAMS MY NAME!!! Wearing earplugs do not work.

Amanda I sometimes will have a scoop (1/2 cup) on a sugar cone of Dreyers/Eddie's Slow churned ice cream. It takes me longer to eat on a cone and feels like I am having more. Breyers also has a fat free ice cream that's not too bad and I cut up strawberries and mix them in together. It's not very many calories. You can have smart pop popcorn, 100 calories packs, they have them in everything these days. My mom had almond and cranberries ones at her house the other day!

I would love to join you ladies! Before I got pregnant, I was doing so well with exercise and dieting. Then, I found out that I was expecting, and unfortuntately began eating for two, and haven't stopped yet. (baby's six months old...yesterday. ) :(
I take that back, I have been trying to eat more sensibly. I've been skipping desserts, and making it a point to eat less that what DH does ( Most nights I can eat just as much as he does...and that doesn't seem right to me...) I did have the willpower to take DH through the drive through for some ice cream and didn't order any for myself! :)

Yay: dragged my butt to work-out class this morning.
And I'm not sore from it at all. (Note to self: need to increase hand-held weights).
So Aunt Flo is visiting, feeling bloated like crazy.

So I decided to treat myself to some chips and 2 little white chocolates. I deserve it.

I've been doing so well eating this week, and I only seem to packing on the pounds. On Monday I weighed in, and since then the scale has been reading 2 pounds higher! (I know I'm not supposed to weigh myself everyday, but I can't help it!) It's so discouraging.
I guess I need to remember that it's the measurements that count, and I've lost about 2 1/2 inches around my waist, but I still want to see the scale drop, you know?!

shg~I'm curious as well!
I have been doing low calorie diet: 1000 to 1200 calories a day. Going to the gym 5 or 6 days a week( 1hr+ each day) combination cardio and strength each workout. Measuring food, keeping carbs low and eating whole grains.
Eating a lot of cottage cheese, berries, grilled chicken, fish...
Sample menu:
Breakfast:
1 cup of cottage cheese with 1 cup of blueberries.
OR
3 egg white omelet with 1 cup of broccoli
Lunch
1/2 lavash bread with 1/2 avocado, 3 oz of grilled chicken, 1 small tomato, some cucumber slices and 1 tsp. of hummus.
Snacks:
raw almonds ( Trader Joe's have pre-measured variety)
Dinner
4 oz of fish or grilled chicken
1/4 cup of brown rice, salad with balsamic vinaigrette.
No sodas of any kind. Lots of water, I am coffee junkie so I have 2 cups a day with some skim milk and Splenda

You gals are already burning (by nursing) most of the calories that I burn in the gym. Just focus on eating healthy and the gym. The weight will come off, just try to be consistent, every little bit helps. I know how it is with nursing and taking care off little one. It took me nearly 3 years :eek:to loose baby weight (still working on it) Stick to it!

Argh: been traveling a lot; eating out a lot.
If you ever head to NYC, I'd recommend:
- Megu in Tribeca - great Japanese/Kobe burger
- Gabriela's on 93rd - awesome Spanish ceviche
Still doing well on the work-out part, so hopefully, some of this weight gain is muscle mass. However, being on a "diet", I now crave stuff, like chips and ice cream (since it's summer and all).
But I have to get back to drinking enough/more water; been very forgetful.
Maybe if I try on my dresses (for my cousin's wedding), they'll be motivation for me to stop stuffing food into my mouth! :)

I keep yo-yo-ing these 1-2 pounds. Argh: depressing. I'd like to see under 120 sometimes soon.
This morning's work-out was TOUGH. I didn't even have the strength/energy to complain during class. Heck, I'm having trouble typing right now.
My latest goal is to sculpt my arms, since the dresses are sleeveless.
Any advice?
I think I have to lift weights/push-ups every other day to keep my arm muscles growing.
I'm also logging all my food intake in FITDAY.com.
I really need to watch what I eat.

I think I'm hitting a wall... I have been at the gym 5 days this week and working my #$%@ off. My diet is good, on average 1200 calories a day....any ideas how to come out of it? I am loosing inches, so I know that it's working but would like to see some more weight loss.

shg: what are you doing at the gym?
You may need a work-out shake-up; your body/muscles may be getting used to the routine.
For me, when I hit a wall, I'd start interval training, especially interval running. That's running really hard (can barely talk) for ~1min, then slow down to a fast walk for 1min, and back to running, and so on. That's what really help me past a wall.
As you noted, you're losing inches, so that means you're creating muscles that weigh more than fat, so you're really doing well. don't kick yourself for it. The more muscles you create, the more calories you'll burn, so hang in there.
How much water are you drinking? New muscles need a lot of water.
Also, what is your height? 1200 calories may not be enough calories for your body, so it may start to go into starvation-mode, where it'll hold onto every calorie you take in.
Hey, I dish it out better than listening to it myself.
I need to drink more water. Will go back to using the microwave timer: drink ~1cup of water every hour.

shg huango had some good ideas, and also you might not be getting enough calories. If you really restrict yourself, your body goes into "starvation mode" and hangs onto every little calorie it takes in. Try increasing what you eat.
ETA: Nevermind! In reading huango's post again, I see she covered that already! I just noticed the exercise portion. (just skimmed the first time, had a ton to catch up on after being gone a week!)

YAY! I made my 10 lbs by Labor Day goal! Now, if I can just keep it up and lose 10 a month for the next umm...many months, I'll be doing good! I think this thread has done me wonders this past month because I actually see the numbers in writing and am accountable to not only myself any longer.
My new goal is at least 30 lbs OR into a size 12 by the end of the year (or both!).

I was hoping to be under 180 at the end of this challenge but can't complain. I have lost a lots of inches o top of the weight and am pretty pleased with my progress overall. Went from size 14 to size 10, which is my pre-pregnancy size. I was not able to do it in the past 4 years, so it's a huge accomplishment. See you next challenge and THANKS for the support.
