I decided it is time to throw away our Avent bottles and replace with a BPA-free alternative. Has anyone tried the Gerber Gentle Flow bottles? They are reasonably priced and I read they are compatible with Avent nipples and collars.

wendalah I just did the same. Sorry I don't know about the Gerber bottles-I switched to the Playtex nursers & DS likes them better than the Avents! I'm liking it too because I'm using the drop-in liners-so not having to wash bottles-just the tops & nipples. I also work, so pump & they sell a breast milk storage kit that hooks right onto my pump so I can pump directly into the liners & I don't have to wash the milk storage bottles I'd been pumping into anymore either. The playtex nursers are not compatible with Avent nipples & collars. Also, the playtex ones come with a slow flow nipple (we were using slow with Avent) but I bought the fast flow playtex nipples and he does great with them - the slow is REALLY slow. Sorry I didn't really answer your question! Just thought I'd share my BPA free solution with you. The playtex nursers are cheap and come with a couple liners-you could always pick up 1 to see if it would work for you.

We started out using the Playtex system with drop-ins, and did that for a couple months. I agree it is very practical for pumping! I'm not really wanting to go back to the drop-ins, though.

mcgwigan - Glad to hear the drop-ins are working out for you! I love pumping directly into the liners!
wendalah - I don't use anything but the drop-ins, but have you heard that BRU will let you exchange the Avent (or any bottles with BPA) for BPA-free bottles? You don't even need a receipt, and the bottles can be used.

I replaced Bianca's bottles with BPA-free Gerber ones as well, but I bought the Fashion Tints that have your standard medium flow. She does fine with them, and I love them. No leaks, easy to clean, fun colors, and no BPA.
I know I can't tell you about Gentle Flow, but I do use the Gerber brand and just wanted to mention that I too went with them for the BPA-free factor and am very happy with their quality. I would assume that the Gentle Flow are just as good. I also used Avent at first, and for me switching to Gerber bottles has been a breeze. I wish I would have used them from the start, honestly.

Loud_Curly I called my BabiesRUs last week and they were no longer doing bottle exchanges because there hadn't been any recalls.

Hmm..I called today and they said they were. They told me the BPA-free bottles are hard to get, though, because so many people are exchanging.

I think the BRU returns for BPA vary by location - there is a thread on another site I'm on where people chronicle their experiences at various stores and it really has varied on a case-by-case basis.

When I was at BRU last week and inquired about their policy on returning my Dr. Brown's bottles, the guy pulled out an e-mail from their corporate office that states under BRU's refund policy they will return the bottles for an exchange or merchandise credit. You do not need a receipt or original packaging to do the return. You MUST have all of the parts with the bottles though (cap, nipple, vent, etc...).

I bought some GentleFlow bottles, and they are compatible with Avent nipples. No leaking at all. I put on a slow-flow Avent nipple, since GentleFlow only comes with medium.
DD didn't do well with the bottle; she was really gassy and had a few trapped burps, and it took her a good 20 minutes to get them out. BUT that was the first time we gave her a bottle, and she was only 7 weeks old. ;) My guess is your older DD would do just fine.

Where can you buy these? I looked on the Babies R Us website, but they didn't have them.
