I have lost 20lbs since January and have hit a plateau. I am thinking about starting protein shakes, but i know that they can be high in calories. Any suggestions of which to drink to that won't become more of a challenge than help. If you have other ideas to get me over the hump that would be great too! THANKS!

I don't drink the prepackaged ones, but I use the following recipe a fair amount in the summer for breakfast:

1 scoop vanilla whey protein (Zero Carb Isopure, buy at GNC)
1 cup frozen fruit -- most berries are good
.5 cup skim milk
splenda to taste if you want -- I don't use it but DH does

With the brand of protein I use, this adds up to:

225 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 29 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber.

I have the following for breakfast many mornings:

-1 oz of Quaker Instant Oats
-1.25 scoop of Complete Whey Protein (Vanilla)
-8 oz (about 1/2 c.) of water

Boil water and add oats & protein powder and steam for a couple of minutes. Remove from heat.

Then stir in:
-1/2 T. of Peanut butter

It's really filling and stays with you.

LIZ~That sounds really good! I wonder how it would work with chocolate (since that's what I already have) - Peanut butter cups anyone? :p

Don't get too excited- it's not all that yummy. Kind of rubbery actually. :p But I found I got used to it after a few tries.

Yes, the recipe with the bananas and peanut butter actually calls for chocolate protein powder. I only have vanilla on hand right now. It probably is better with chocolate. :)

We use chocolate whey protein, skim milk, and frozen fruit - like raspberries, strawberries, cherries etc... They aren't great, but aren't awful. :)

I do vanilla protein powder, whatever fruit is on hand (frozen or fresh), soy/skim milk and sometimes a splash of OJ. I know one of DH's regulars is bananas, PB, chocloate protein powder and milk, but I like the vanilla/fruity ones myself.
