Is anyone watching the French Open?
I love this tournament. The clay always makes it so interesting. Looks like there's already been quite a few upsets and close matches. I can't believe Venus and Serena are both out of it already!
Still haven't gotten over Justine Henin retiring so suddenly. That was crazy. That leaves the women's game so up in the air. I guess Sharapova would be favored at this point, but I'm hoping for someone else to sneak it and take it.
For the men... well, I don't think anyone's beating Nadal on clay.

I'm betting on Nadal as well, but we'll see. I'm generally annoyed by the Williams sisters but was sorry to see Henin go.

Who's watching Wimbledon?
This has been such a crazy tournament so far! I wasn't sad to see Sharapova and Jankovic go out earlier than expected, but was pretty bummed about Ana Ivanovic. The Chinese and Thai players have really had an incredible run on the women's side!
Was happy to see the outcome of the Federer/Hewitt match, as well.
Was sort of hoping that some new, young talent would come through and take a realistic shot at the finals, but in looking at the remaining players I'm pretty sure we'll end up with Federer/Nadal and Williams/Williams finals. Not that those aren't great match ups.... was just hoping for something different.

Who's excited for a Williams v. Williams final? I am!!
I am more excited by the thought of The Fed winning 6 consecutive Wimbledons. I find when the Williams sisters play each other the match tends to not live up to expectations.

My TIVO cut off the last set of the men's Wimbledon finale!! Did this happen to anyone else? I am so bummed... what I saw of the match was absolutely epic. I felt like I was watching history, like people are going to be talking about that match for a long time.
I still don't know who won. I'm going to try to stay off the internet today and catch a rerun on the tennis channel tonight. DYING to see the end!

I couldn't believe it when I got home at 4:00 and it was still going on! We left at the beginning of the 3rd and thought it would over in a flash.

And of course, Nadal-Federer again in the final. Awesome, awesome tennis.

I used to play tennis pre-baby. There's so little time now.
The Australian Open was amazing! You probably read about the big Nadal-Federer showdown and Federer breaking down in tears afterward. I think it's the most compelling rivalry going in sports right now and absolutely can't wait until the French Open & Wimbledon.

Anyone watch the French Open?
I was so disappointed that Nadal wasn't in the final, but happy that Federer was finally able to take home a win. Poor Roger, with that idiot jumping out of the stands! I wish security had nabbed him more quickly.
As for the women's final, what happened to Safina? Wow, she completely choked. :(
Excited for Wimbledon to start now!

Always watch the French, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Still remember when Sampras won the year he ahd to throw up on the side of the court, got warned by the unmpire for stalling, and won! Plus, my 3-year-old loves tennis. We watched the French Open in bed together when we woke up. And yesterday at Target he pointed to a tennis racket and said "There's Roger Federer" and he was right!
Bad news about Nadal today. Does not look good for a Federer/Nadal final at Wimbledon.

I am so sad that Nadal has withdrawn from Wimbledon! No rematch of last year's "greatest tennis game?" :(

That was an incredible match. I would have been happy if Federer won, but sad we won't get a chance to match up the two best players in the final.

Wow, that Wimbledon final was really amazing! Roddick did a fantastic job of holding his own against Federer. I'm not sure I was expecting him to play that well. Great job, both Federer and Roddick!
Has anyone been paying attention to this whole thing of Serena still being ranked #2 even though she's won, what, three slams and Safina has won zero? I read some interesting quotes from Serena about it in the L.A. Times today.

I wonder if Serena doesn't care about the ranking - it's probably like having a target on your back. Besides, she's playing some sick (read: AWESOME) tennis lately. I saw her semi-final match and WOW at her staving off like 4 match points to win it in the end.
Phew.
Although I kind wanted Venus to win - only because I want her to climb up and eventually knock off Steffi Graf for most Wimbledon wins - but she's got like 4 more to go.
ETA: Oh and I wanted Roddick to win, though I'm happy for Federer. Andy worked hard to get back to the final and I was a bit bummed that he didn't win... but that was some match, huh?

Serena sounds alternately bemused and pissed off about the ranking. I would be too, in her shoes. I understand the mathematical calculations that put her at #2, but she's clearly, clearly the best tennis player in the world right now.
I was rooting for Andy, too. He's playing such great tennis. I do love Federer, so I wasn't sad that he won, but I really felt for Andy after such a long, tough match.
Did I read this morning that Andy has pulled out of the Davis Cup due to an injury? Saw a headline go by but didn't read the story.

Yes--I think they said it was a hip injury sustained during that mother of all 5th sets (I was on the treadmill when the 4th set ended, and thought "Oh, maybe I'll just keep walking for the 5th set." Yeah, I didn't last that long...and then I felt like a bum because they were running around and I didn't even keep walking.). I didn't recognize the name of the guy taking his place, but it's someone who has played before.

Hey everyone Cant wait for the Oudin/Wozniacki match tonight :) Should be good Just hope hubby gives me TV for tonight lol
Anyone going to watch?
Missed the womens' match but caught the last 2 sets of the Federer/Soderling match. While I am a die-hard Fed fan I was hoping Robin would take him to 5 sets, he has improved so much this year but seems to keep running into Roger in the slams.

How about Serena's tirade against the line judge? WTH? She was clearly being outplayed by Clijsters, but ending the match like that was ridiculous. I haven't seen a player lose their cool like that on such a big stage in a while!

That was unbelievable! Especially to threaten so specifically in the way she did. I could have even understood a cuss word, a thrown racket, a "wtf", or something like that...but she was so far out of line. People will be talking about it for a loooong time, I'm afraid. I think I even heard she's been suspended from doubles?

I seen it on sportscenter as didnt get to see that match and she is unreal. Just cant do things like that. Not sure about suspension though but wouldnt be surprised
It was totally unacceptable. I hope she is suspended, you wouldn't get away with behaviour like that in any other sport I can think of.
And I am so happy for Kim Clijsters - what a great comeback story! Now good luck to Roger Federer.
