I don't have time for SO's right now (I'll be back for that). I have to get to the county health department this morning to get a copy of the birth certificate so I can fax in a form to add Carson to my health insurance... but I wanted to say:
Yay to Standrea! What a relief!!!

Congratualtions Anemone, Dettes, OctoberPrincess & Beachgirl on the arrival of your baby girls!
&
Congratulations Ducgal and welcome Ivan!
Standrea - I'm so happy to hear the results were negative! What a relief!
I am having big trouble at night. Jacklyn is now 5 weeks old and is a gassy mess all night long (not so much during the day???). I swaddle her and put her down usually around 10PM She doesn't like to lay flat so I purchased every sleep incliner on the market - to no avail. She is up every 2 hours in pain. After her first waking, she will not go back down in the bassinet. She only wants to be next to me, with her head on my pillow - and I have to be touching her. When she is in distress, I have to pat her back - this goes on all night! Any suggestions? I've tried white noise & chamomile tea - neither helped. I'm thinking of getting the gripe water today.
Side note - she's an angel during the day - so it's not colic or anything like that...
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC?
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point?
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib?
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night?
I'm paranoid right now becasue DD#1 was and still is a crappy sleeper and I don't want to make mistakes with this one. I want to do wahtever I need to to get through this "gassy at night" period without creating additional problems or habits.
UGH - I'm so tired... Any advice?

Nicholas sleeps beside me as well, I have his cradle inclined and he'll sleep there from when I put him down at 10 till he wakes at 12-1 then only his mommy will do. He sleeps the longest the best on my chest patting his butt? So that's how I spend most of my day/night.

Hi guys.
I realize it's been forever and a day since I was last in here.
Things with me have been going pretty well. The little guy is going through his growth spurt this week I think, as I can't feed him enough these days. He was doing really well for the first 2 weeks, so I guess at 2.5 weeks, he's just a big ol' growing boy. BFing is going really well, aside from this growth spurt where it seems like I'm not making enough milk to satisfy him. I just keep feeding him and hope my supply catches up soon.
Figured I'd join...

1. Yes, we're swaddling. I tried NOT swaddling for about a week after the doctor said we shouldn't because it would restrict her hip movement, but she kept startling herself awake. Now I swaddle her but keep the bottom half loose.
2. Sometimes she stays in the PnP, but sometimes she ends up in bed with me. However, that's usually because she is still awake after her first nighttime feeding and I finally decide I need to go back to bed; it's not because she won't go back down in the PnP. Then I usually sleep with her in my arms until I wake up and see she's sleeping, then I put her back in the PnP. Last night I put her back down in the PnP when she was still slightly awake, and she was up an hour later. Then we were both awake from 3-6 a.m. That sucked.
3. Not in the crib yet, but she's been taking a nap there once a day. We're going to try to get her to sleep in the crib Saturday night.
4. She usually goes down between 8-9 p.m. and stays there for 4-6 hours. Then it's up for a diaper change and feeding, and she usually goes back to sleep for 2-4 more hours. Last night was another story.
She's 6 weeks old, and last week was the first week I noticed some sort of consistency with her sleep habits.

Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? Nope. I never did with DD#1, so I figure why start with #2.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? Ellie starts in her crib, and sometimes is there all night, others she is in bed with me. She only wakes once. If after I put her back in her crib and she fusses for 3 times after I go in to settle her back down, then I bring her in with me and she's out within a minute or so.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? Ellie has slept really well since she was born, so yes, she was sleeping well. Abbie woke up once when Ellie had a fit when she woke up at night, but she yelled for me, and i told her it was ok and to go back to sleep, and she did. They're bed rooms are across the hall from eachother.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? Abbie goes down at 8:30, Ellie at 9.

I was going to go through the last thread and use the stats and incorporate them into a new list for the front page, but that will take too much time and be a big PITA. Please re-add your stats for me if you want to be listed as a "member." I think that will be quicker. Thanks so much!
- Becky
Also, I think it's going to become difficult to keep updating stuff after the initial updating, so I don't plan to update with stats from each WBV and whatnot. If you have a problem with that, I'll gladly give you the password and you can become a TM! ;)

I really slacked off in the Pregnancy board once Cooper arrived. Just not enough quiet time during the day anymore. Once I'm back at work I'll be posting more reguarly again.
We had our 1 month check-up this week and all is looking well. Cooper, the little porker put on 3 lbs in one month! That's insane. I remember the doc saysing at our one week appt that she was looking for him to gain 1 lb in 1 month. And he gained 3 x that amount!!!! The doc said at this rate I really should be holding out to feed him every 3 hrs and that if he is crying in between that time, it's not because he is hungry. Most of the time he waits 3 hours on his own anyway. But during his "witching hours" between 4 and 7 pm, he sometimes will want to nurse even if its only been 2 hours. And I do it because its really only once a day.
Since this thread is only 3 pages, I'm going to really try to keep up with it, and not fall to far behind. I can't wait to hear all the latest updates on the May babies!!
Oooops, wanted to reply to the QOTD:
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC?
Yes, but he is starting to kick it off. When he wakes up for his night feedings, most of the time he is no longer swaddled. But he likes it for falling asleep.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point?
I would not really call it co-sleeping, but for some reason he wakes up every morning around 6:00 am, and I know he is not hungary because I've feed him maybe 1-1.5 hr earlier. So I pull him into bed with me and we sleep together for another hour.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? Normally around 8:00-8:30 is our last feeding and then he falls alseep. But some night he wants to "party" and stay up for a feeding around 10:00. (which I actually like because I'm up until 10 anyway, and this way I know he'll sleep longer until he next feeding, and I can too!)

Mickey-You still have about 31 hours left of May, so he might still come this month ;)! I hope so for you!
Last night was pretty rough. We put the girls down a bit later hten normal (about half hour each). After Ellie fell asleep (in her pnp in the living room), I must have fallen asleep on the couch. Well, I woke up at 2 to Ellie screaming her head off. I took her upstairs, nursed her, and put her to bed. Every 10 minutes she was freaking out again, so we ended up sleeping on the couch. I hope tonight is better!

Q#2: Carson sleeps with us (so did Brody). He seems to sleep best there... go figure! Makes nursing easy too.
Q#3: We will try to transition to the crib when he goes longer than 3 hr between feedings at night. I should try to have him nap in there during the day...
Q#4: After the 'witching hour' (usually between 7-9pm), the one time a day we struggle to get him to sleep, Carson and I go to bed (usually 9pm). Brody is in bed at 8pm.

QOTD1: We do not swaddle. DD HAS to have her arms free or she throws a fit, DS was the same way. I've tried swaddling w/ her arms out, but she kicks it off so I don't bother any more.
QOTD2: We do not co-sleep anymore. I was SO tired a couple of times that I brought DD to bed with me, as she seemed to only sleep when I was holding her or when she was on my chest/stomach. However, one night I went to sleep with her laying on my chest and I woke up and she had had rolled off. She was asleep in the crook of my arm, and I never woke up or felt her move. Thankfully she landed face up, I don't know what would have happened if she had ended up face down. After that, I do not sleep with her, not a chance I'm willing to take.
QOTD3: DD started in the PnP in our room and neither of us slept well, she makes a lot of noises and moves a lot in her sleep. After the first week we moved her to the crib in her room and we both sleep a lot better - although for only about 2 or 2.5 hours at a time  The nursery is across the hall from DS and he hasn't woken yet - he's been asleep in the same room with her when she is wailing and doesn't wake though.
QOTD4: We are so not on a schedule. I really need to get better about this. I think DD usually goes down at about 9 or 9:30, but we are up at 12, 3, and 6 - and, of course, DS is up for the day at 6.
US: I think/thought DD had colic. She gets absolutely inconsolible in the evenings. She has to be held, but we have to walk around with her at the same time. It lasts from about 6pm to about 9pm or later. Thankfully it's not all day...yet...or in the middle of the night.
We transitioned DS to a toddler bed 2 weeks ago. I don't think he was ready yet, but DH converted the crib anyway. Since then, DS won't go to sleep on his own (he keeps coming back out into the living room), so we have to lay with him in our bed until he falls asleep and then put him in his bed. He has fallen out of his bed (even with the 1/2 rail) three times, and almost every night has woken up and made his way into our bed. I'm wondering if we should put the full rail back on his crib?
Another QOTD: Does anyone give ther DC water? My mother and grandmother are always on my case about DD being thirsty and I should give her water (they did this with DS too). I tell them that BF babies don't need water - they get everything they need from the BM. If she's fussy, that the first thing they suggest - grr.
When we were still in the hosptil, one of the nurses came in and said DD (who was in the nursery) was fussy and she wanted to give her some water. What!?! I said if she's fussy, bring her here and I'll nurse her. She tried to argue with me and I said "I don't think babies need water." She said (in a rather incredulous tone) "Oh, you don't?" ...the next night, that nurse asked if it was ok to give her a little formula - this was even before she took her to the nursery, so she wasn't fussy at all. She said, "Sometimes the doctors let us give them a little formula." What?!? At least she asked...that's the problem with small-town hospitals (and OLD nurses) they don't really stay on top of things...

Q1: No, we do not swaddle.
Q2: DS sleeps in his bassinet and only rarely does he end up in bed with me anymore. I used to do it a lot in the early hours of the morning when I was just so exhausted and wanted sleep.
Q3: We have not transitioned to the crib yet, but soon! His bassinet is starting to fill up with a whole lot of baby! :D
Q4: DS goes "to bed" between 8 and 10. I prefer the latter.
Water - No, I do not give DS water and didn't give it to DD. I have heard the same thing that bf babies do not need anything else at this point.
ironhair - Sorry to hear you think DD has colic, that sounds rough. We transitioned DD to her BGB a couple months ago and she still gets up and out of bed sometimes three times a night, but sometimes not at all. It's annoying. She doesn't ever need anything, it's just the freedom of doing it, I think.

Water- No! Everything I have read says babies do not need water, and I actually read a study (http://www.babycenter.com/204_drinking-water-can-harm-babies_5232695.bc) recently that said it could be harmful.
Water as a beverage should be completely off limits to babies six months old and younger, Anders and her colleagues say. Parents should also avoid using over-diluted formula, or pediatric drinks containing electrolytes.

Iron I would NOT give your DD water!
From children's hospital St. louis
For healthy adults, nothing seems to quench a thirst better than plain, pure water. We're encouraged to drink several glasses a day to keep our systems in balance. But for children under 1 year old – and especially during the first nine months of life – drinking too much water can be dangerous.
In fact, according to pediatricians like James P. Keating, MD, medical director of the St. Louis Children's Hospital Diagnostic Center, too much water dilutes a baby's normal sodium levels and can lead to seizures, coma, brain damage and death.
Breast milk or formula provides all the fluid healthy babies need. If a mother feels her baby needs to take additional water, it should be limited to two to three ounces at a time and should be offered only after the baby has satisfied his hunger with breast feeding or formula

I just found a link on BabyCenter.com, and it has the lyrics to a bunch of lullabies, and you can also listen to the song. I thought it was pretty cool. I'm a crappy singer and I really don't know many lullabies, but I want to start singing them to Maddie anyway. Hopefully this helps! At least it has reminded me of some lullabies I forgot about. Here (http://www.babycenter.com/0_lullaby-lyrics-a-primer_1508569.bc) is the link.
A good friend of mine from high school is coming to stay tonight. She's great with babies and desperately wants one of her own, but her husband says he isn't ready yet. They've not even been married for a year, so she's disappointed but not too worried yet. She will be an amazing mom. And I'm sure she'll be a big help with Maddie and will allow Matt to get out and clean the garage and me to clean the house. Maddie's baptism is on Sunday, and we're having a party at our house afterward. My wood floors desperately need a steam mopping, and everything needs to be scrubbed down. I have to clean the guest bathroom before she gets here though! I already washed the sheets in the guest bedroom, since DH has been sleeping there most nights. DH should be home from work on time (he's been working a lot of overtime, which is great for the $$$ but makes me sad he's not around to see Maddie (and me) much), so he'll be on baby duty while I clean. I could have him clean, but I like him to spend time with Maddie, and I actually enjoy cleaning now because it gives me a few moments away from baby time!

Iron: I specifically asked this question in our breastfeeding class and the IRCLC said that NO, NO, NO!
Hey, did anyone else notice but when you look at the list of who had boys and who had girls (top of page 1) it looks pretty even. I remember when we first found out what we were having it seemed so many people where having boys. But it seemed to sort itself out! ;)
My little Kade is being sooo good today. Yesterday was a different story. I am so scared to let him sleep today cause then he won't tonight. But I am taking what I get.
I have started (only today) writing down when he sleeps and when he eats and for how long to see if he has a pattern. Of course one day changes so drastically from the other.. ;)
ETA: Thanks Becky for the link to the lullabies! I was just singing to DS today and all I could think of was twinkle twinkle and baa baa black sheep so he heard that over and over.

Can't believe we're starting another thread!!!!
Addesyn had her 1 month checkup today. SHe's still small for her age... only in the 17th precentile for her age in weight... she is now at 7lb 10 oz.. her newborn clothes are still HUGE on her... she is 22 inches long which puts her in the 37th percentile. Doctors checked her nose, ears, lungs, heart, eyes...everything was just great. She does back for her two month checkup, with shots!!! I am soooo dreading this!
Afterwards, we went to my work to show off! Everyone fell in love with her. Walking in there definitely made me dread going back to work... I dont even want to think about it!! I am so glad I get to stay off until september...we spent two and a half hours at work, now Addesyn is pooped and napping all afternoon!!

QOTD1": yes, we swaddle. I have 4 miracle blankets, and they are brilliant. She has a strong startle reflex, and these have helped keep her sleeping soundly.
QOTD2/: DD sleeps in her crib all night, and during the day (unless we are out, in which case she sleeps in her stroller basinette.
QOTD3: DD has slept in her crib since we got back from hospital
QOTD4: We don't have a set time yet for bedtime, as DD is only 2.5 weeks old. She is sleeping a lot at the moment, and has only 2 wakeful periods a day. I feed her around 6.30 most nights, and she sleeps after that through the night, waking 4 hourly for feeds. If she is grizzly after that feed, I put her in the sling for 10 minutes, and she settles very quickly. I think it will save my sanity over the next few months with DS needing to have his bath and bed routine, and DH working loooooong hours.
Standrea- That is great news about Ellie's test results. What a relief for you. I also never managed to post that I loved her room - I think it is cute, and once she starts to actually sleep in it, I'm sure she will too:p
Becky - Maddie looks so cute in her lifevest, and that is great news that she is out of her harness soon too.
Dettes- your family is just gorgeous, and I'll echo everyone here who says that you look fabulous for someone who just gave birth.
MrsSpencer- I hope the feeding issues resolve soon. I had troubles with my DS (slightly different from yours), but I was advised by a really bad LC to use a bottle to top him up - end result was that he refused to bf and held out for the bottle that he knew was coming.
PGirl- Addesyn is really cute!
We had a 2 week checkup yesterday. DD has actually lost weight (probably due to a couple of things, including me getting mastitis this week) from her last checkup a week before (3oz), but has grown an amazing amount - 1.6 inches in 2 weeks! We are keeping an eye on her weight loss - I'm going back next week for another checkup, and hopefully she'll have put it back on. She is a tall girl with long skinny legs- def takes after her father in that regard (I'm 5'4")! Feeding is now going well, and the mastitis has cleared up, although I'm on antibiotics until Monday....

As for the various QsOTD:
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? Not really. At night I do wrap him in a blanket, but I keep his arms up (kind of with his elbows into his body and his hands up by his head/face). He seems to do best that way. And we frequently roll a blanket under his back and let him sleep propped toward his side.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? For the most part he is staying in his crib (and prior he was staying in his bassinet). Sometimes I've had to bring him to the bassinet after his first feeding during the night, but the last few nights he's stayed in the crib with no problem. My DH is gone during the week so sometimes I bring him in bed with me to nurse and then just let him stay there. I can only do this when DH is away though and DS seems to be agreeable to sleeping wherever.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? Yes, DS sleeps very, very well in general. In fact, he sleeps most of the day. And since we do have another child and we've had to just plop the new baby down wherever, whenever, I think he's already learning just to sleep wherever he can. :) As for the older child and waking him, sometimes the baby does wake him a bit in the middle of the night, but he gets right back to sleep. But for the most part, their rooms are across the way from each other, so that helps.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? The last few nights he's gone to bed around 9 or 8:30 or so. It had been more like 10 or 11. We haven't set a time yet. Last night he fell asleep around 8:30 and I tried in vain to wake him to feed before bed, but couldn't get him to stir. He slept until 2 anyway. And then until nearly 7!

Nicholas is feeling better today, not as cranky just clingy. Can't believe we have a baby thread either! My mom said it just feels like yesterday that I told her I thought I was pregnant, and now he's a month old :( I think it's going by way too fast :) On a good note, he refused his cereal bottle last night and just wanted the breast! (dancing, victory for the boob:)) I still gave him an ounce of his cereal bottle when he was done with me, because he does need it, he doesn't throw up nearly as much when he has that to eat too.

Baby Lust - Congratulations having your baby girls home with you, I got a little teary-eyed thinking about it! That is so exciting!
Andrea - YES! Time is flying by this time compared to the first. My maternity leave is exactly 1/2 over. Jameson is 6 weeks old today. I'm happy :) and sad :( at the same time.
We've had a good day. I had a deep tissue massage at noon which was A-Mazing! :D I feel like a brand new person. Thanks to DH for holding down the fort and watching both kids by himself. DD went down for a nap and slept for THREE HOURS! That's unusual for her. Then we all headed out to have a late lunch/early dinner at our favorite Vietnamese place. Came home and DH left for a poker tournament about one mile from our house with a bunch of his friends. It would be so awesome if he could win the big pot...even 2nd or 3rd brings home a chunk of change!!
With my big BRU gift card from the girls at work we decided to purchase a double stroller (hallelujah)! So, I've been spending some time doing research on what to get. I can't wait! We're going tomorrow to get it.

Yay Amanda!!!!!
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? Yes! It works for us!
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? We co-sleep. It makes breastfeeding easier.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? We are still cosleeping with Ava but with DD#1 we c slept till rght before Ava was born and had no issues moving her to her big girl bed (she never really used her crib) at 2.5 years old.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? Ava goes to bed on her own schedule. We feed on demand so she is up when she wants to eat.
_______________
Questions: Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier? I have so many oz of pumped milk in the freezer. I love to drink wine and I prefer to give previously pumped breastmilk instead of breastfeed the baby but Ava is SO different from her sister (who was flexible) she REFUSES to take a bottle or a pacifier. Its crazy! My doula said one drink is fine. Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol? Im a bit paranoid.
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots? We are, but we had to switch doctors (the old one wasnt open to the idea of it.) I bought the book The Vaccine Book and learned so much from it. We didnt do this with DD #1. I wish we did though.

RO's-Do you feel like time is flying fast with #2 then it did for #1? I can't believe Ellie will be 1 month old tommorrow! Seems impossible to me!
Oh definitely!!!! I find myself crying a lot because we dont plan to have any more kids so this is my last baby. :(

Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? Yup, DD seems to sleep better if she is wrapped up. DS HATED it, so we didn't push it. For me the gerber waffle weave blankets work better than any of the commercial swaddling blankets.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? DD sleeps most of the night in the bassinet. Sometimes she comes into bed with us in the morning, but I sleep better if she isn't in bed with us. We ended up cosleeping with Ds because he wouldn't sleep in the bassinet.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? Tonight is the first night that we are trying DD in the crib. The plan is to bring her to our room when we go to bed, so she won't have a chance to wake DS. If we have to sleep train DD, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. If you have a monitor you should hear the baby and be able to get them before they wake anyone else.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? I'm not sure I get the question. At this age, hardly any baby is sleeping through the night. DD usually does two 3.5-5 hour sleeps through the night. So last night she slept from 10 ish to 2, nursed and then slept til 5 something. Then she was fussy for the next few hours. The day before she slept from 9-1, nursed and then 1:30-6.

Yippee Baby Lust!!! That is great, and that picture is too cute!
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier?
Maddie finally is pretty good about taking the paci, but we only give it to her if we think she really needs it, or if we need it for our sanity. She actually only takes it when she needs it, which isn't too often. We haven't tried a bottle yet. I just pumped for about 5 minutes and got 4.5 ounces (before Maddie demanded she be fed ... I have LOTS of milk), and instead of freezing, I am going to put it in the fridge and hopefully have DH give it to her later today.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol?
Yes. The LC I see said I can have one beer or glass if wine w/o pumping and dumping. However, she said a drink with hard liquor requires I P&D. I had a few beers last weekend, and a glass of wine Friday night, all with no P&Ding. Liquor metabolizes in your milk like it does in your bloodstream, where it just "goes away" after a while.
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots? Not us.
Today is Maddie's baptism! If you remember the whole drama with my brother being her godfather and his wife wanting him to convert to Lutheranism a few months after I asked him, you know I'm glad to just get it done. I am looking forward to the party we are having afterward. It's supposed to be 80 and sunny! We're having immediate family and a few friends over. DH's crazy grandma is coming (at my bridal shower two years ago she was caught going through the drawers in the host's bedroom and bathroom), and I'm not looking forward to that. DH and I already decided she gets to hold Maddie ONCE, she has to be sitting and it has to be supervised. ;)

Babylust YAY! sooooo happy for you and your family. i know how you elated you feel! :) The girls are too cute.
Q1: yes we swaddle, but mostly at night. Though DS is starting to kick it off, he's so cute swaddled up-looks like a little burrito!
Q2: DS is in a bassinet at the foot of our bed and he stays there all night. we rarely put him there for a nap during the day though.
Q3: haven't moved to the crib yet. we waited for a month with DD and will do the same with DS.
Q4: we take DS to bed with us, around 11ish. but he sleeps the same amount of time as he would during the day still. he doesn't sleep any longer at night between feedings as he does during the day.
alcohol: i'm aching for some. :) i've also been told it's okay for 1 drink of wine/beer and won't be a problem.
shots: we aren't delaying them

MrsSpencer poor baby, maybe an enema? I remember my sister needed to give my nephew one when he was just days old. I would definitely call the doctor ASAP!
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? Yes, we swaddle and it really helps her.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? We put DD to bed in the bassinet around 11 ish but when she wakes for that first feeding around 2 or 3 am she ends up just staying in bed with us, she fusses as soon as we put her in the bassinet.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? Don't plan to transition to the crib until DD is 4 months or so since that's what worked with DS.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? I go to sleep around 11:30ish so DD gets put down for "the night" shortly before then.
Bottle/Paci: DD will not take the paci, she just wants to comfort suck the boob. We offered EBM a few times and have had no problem using Playtex nursers.
Shots: We are following the regular vaccination schedule.
Alchohol: Not really a drinker but if I were to go out and have a drink I would nurse DD right before and then enjoy my 1 drink. :)

I dont think you can use snapfish anymore Rach-try photobucket.
My baby is 1 month old today! How the heck is that possible?
Drinking-I had my celebratory glass of wine the other night and after less then half of a glass, i was feeling it. I didn't pump and dump, because Ellie didn't nurse for another 6 hours later. I never pumped and dumped with Abbie either. I love me some wine! What's everyones favorite?
Vaccines-we are delaying some. My ped's office gave me a really hard time doing this with ABbie, so I hope that they are expecting the same thing with Ellie.
HOw is everyone doing? I'm feeling and doing pretty well. I started my "diet" on thursday, and am hoping to lose about 10 pounds. We'll see. I''m not going to restrict myself or anything though, just watching everything that I eat. I am sorta following WW, but not giong to meetings or anything. I've also started excercising too. I'm dying to get back to the gym though!
ETA: I forgot to say that Ellie rolled over for the first time yesterday! It was so exciting, yet sad that my little girl is growing up already! :)

Mrs S Call the dr!
Becky Have fun today and take lots of pics!!
Shots We are delaying some and not getting others. I also bought the Dr. Sears Vaccine book. My midwife was one of the ones who recommended it to me, we'll see how his ped feels. She tends to be very by the book
Drinking One glass is perfectly fine! With AJ my LC said that the alchohol gets filtered through your system before it passes through to your milk supply so one glass isn't going to hurt the baby. If/when you decide to offer a bottle you can also pump and dump I did do that a few times when AJ was older and we went to a wedding.
Still here......obviously :p

Becky: Hope you're having a great day. Can't wait to see pictures!!
Addesyn is doing well today. Here lately it feels like we've been giving her formula and supplimenting breastfeeding from time to time. She just didn't seem to be getting enough... I've really kicked up the pumping for supply thing and just letting her nurse as long as she wants... I can tell such a difference today!!! She has nursed almost all day. We've only given her a bottle twice since last night!! So so happy here. It's long and hard work, but so worth it... so I'm going to try to keep it up. I just wish my supply was like everyone else's and I could just nurse and nurse and still have enough to pump.... I pumped yesterday and was lucky to get three ounces.. thats the most I've ever gotten. Other than that, she is such a sweet cuddly baby. I'm afraid we have her spoiled rotten though lol

Hehe ... nobody even pointed out to me that I posted under May2008Mommies this morning. OOPS! I guess I've only done it twice in all these months, so that's not so bad! ;)
I pumped yesterday and was lucky to get three ounces.. thats the most I've ever gotten.
What kind of pump did you get? I know you said you didn't want to spend much, but I've heard that the pump can really make a huge difference. Like I said earlier, I pumped 4.5 ounces this morning in five minutes with my PISA.
The baptism went great. Maddie was wonderful all through church, and she only cried a tiny bit when she got the holy water dumped on her head! She was pretty hungry by that time too. My SIL took the most beautiful picture of her lying on the floor in her gown, so I need to get that from her and post it. It was gorgeous here, and there was not a cloud in the sky all day. What a perfect day for a baptism and party!

Nicholas is doing a little better, got ahold of his ped. office and they told me to go get suppositories and to call his doctor in the morning (she wasn't on call). It was pitiful when he would get his diaper changed is when he was able to slowly push some out, and he screamed like he was dying and by the time I was done changing him and letting him get it out, he was so tired and would almost pass out when I'd pick him up from exhaustion and sleep for a good hour everytime. DH has him now, and he's starting to act more like himself, he did go once since I gave him the medicine, but nothing since, but he's not straining or crying so hopefully he's getting better. It just seems like one thing or another, I am not going to give him cereal anymore, and he only gets formula when I can't produce enough for him (I can only get an oz. from each side now when pumping). Hopefully my supply will fix itself, but I'm going to get to the bottom of this, I'm so upset over what happened these last few days, I'm so drained, and worried over my son. He actually had some blood in his stool, which prompted me to call his ped. immediatly. Hope everyone has a nice weekend..what's left of it.

This new thread has moved so fast already! So, I'll try to catch up on QOTD first.
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? Haven't much after the first week but we do still wrap a blanket around her body, arms out.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? Yes and no; it depends on the night. She still wakes up every 2-3 hours at night and around 4:30/5 AM I will usually not put her back in her bassinet after that feeding.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? Haven'd transitioned yet and likely won't for a few more months. We just started transitioning DD1 into her BGB last week. DD1 and DD2 will be sharing a room so we want to leave the crib vacant for the time being until DD1 is used to her BGB better. We also kept DD1 in the bassinet until she was 5 months old and plan to do the same for DD2 (although she is a noisy sleeper so we may do it sooner).
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? She doesn't yet! Still has the days and nights mixed up.
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier? Have yet to try a pacifier (although I would as a last resort). She started on bottles right away though because they supplemented in the NICU. And we've left DD2 with our parents to babysit on several occasions already and she takes a bottle of EBM from them just fine.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol? Haven't yet this time around. I did last time though and it was fine. I only had to pump and dump once though last time after my company's holiday party (and I had a lovely hangover the next day too). But moderation is fine and I've heard beer is good for milk production (something to do with the yeast (?!?)). I like a good cold beer, but love me some red wine, esp. an Australian Shiraz or a California cabernet...yum!
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots? Not planning on it.
Andrea, seems operation MILF is underway. Yay! I can't wait until I'm allowed to work out! I went shopping on Friday (AT Loft was having an awesome sale) and bought a ton but only in my last pre-pregnancy size and if it seemed to mostly fit right now. I've already lost all my baby weight per the scale, but I still have pudge that I need to get rid of. Luckily my next session of gymnastics starts right after I am 6 weeks post-partum and that is when my OB said I could start working out again. Haven't had good luck with the eating thing yet. I still seem to be eating everything in sight!
MrsSpencer, did your Ped. tell you to feed N cereal bottles? If not I would cut those out too as they may be the culprit. And I'm sure the bloody stools you see are just from him trying so hard to push it out. Hoping he gets better soon. As for your supply issue you could try drinking mothers milk tea or frenu...something. I drank that last time and it helped a lot. Def. check out the BF support thread on CC...its very helpful!
Becky, glad the baptism went well!
October, so cute!
Babylust, very happy to hear the girls are finally home. That's fantastic news :) And their pic is adorable!
update on us: So DD2 seems to have a bit of a cold of sorts. She has been coughing a little bit today. I remember DD1 got a cold early on too but she was 9 weeks old and DD2 is only 4 weeks old. We go back in on Weds. for her 2 week check-up and hopefully it will be better by then. In the meantime I'll just be running the vaporizer. Every night I still hope she sleeps for longer intervals. DD1 was such as easy night-time sleeper right from day one so we got spoiled. Also, finally ordered Megan's announcements on Friday! I should get them by next Friday, and will hopefully be able to get them in the mail the same day and be done with it. Oh, and she rolled over 3 times on Friday (belly to back)!

Lolly- Good to hear from you! Rolling over ... how exciting! Maddie's harness keeps her from doing tummy time on the ground, and I'm positive it would keep her from rolling over. Hopefully in 2.5 more weeks we'll be able to try it! (We consider her tummy time when she's chest-to-chest with us, and she's got a darn strong upper body and neck, so I'm not worried about the lack of floor tummy time.)
makena- Sounds like a nice weekend!
OctoberPrincess- Cute pics! Your little guy is adorable too. He looks like a proud big brother!
I forgot to say that Maddie is definitely having her 6-week growth spurt. She has been sleeping ALL DAY, and she slept a lot yesterday too. When she's not sleeping, she's eating, and then she sleeps again! Honestly, I would guess she was awake for three or four hours today, and my little Nosey Rosey usually is awake more than she is asleep. It's her bedtime, and she just fell asleep on DH while staring at our ceiling fan*, but her last feeding was around 7:30 (it's 9:15 now). I want to put her down and go to bed myself, but I know she'll just wake me up shortly thereafter to eat. Getting that little bit of sleep would be such a tease!
We never ended up trying to introduce the bottle this evening. I forgot, honestly! (I'm really struggling with doing it, because that means I'm closer to going back to work and my baby is growing up. I just can't help it.) I want DH to give it, and I think he's excited to be able to feed her. That bottle is sitting in the fridge though, so hopefully tomorrow early evening will work out. I still want her bedtime feeding to come from the breast though.
*Maddie is FASCINATED with our ceiling fan, and we don't even have it running most of the time. She stares at it forever. Once we get a battery for the remote (12 volt??), we'll put it on low and let her watch it. I bet she'll really love it then!

Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC?
We rarely do this anymore. Only when she refuses to go to sleep or keeps waking herself up (arms flying everywhere etc)
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point?
We are co-sleeping still. But she will completely turn herself around in our bed.. We plan on making the transition to the bassinet in the next few days.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? We have two DD's, ages 5 & 2 -- so far they haven't had any problems sleeping through Addesyn's middle of the night cries...
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night?
She starts to get very tired around 10. We usually go to bed around 11, and that's when she falls asleep for the night.
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier?
DD refused several pacifiers. We had to keep trying different brands. She finally took the Playtex Orthopedic brand.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol?
I'm kind of wondering what to do about this. Since my milk supply is so low anyway... If I do drink, how long do I have to wait to breastfeed, seeing that I usually get very little when I pump?
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots?
I guess I'm in the dark with this question. I didn't know people even did that... she is supposed to have her shots next month at her two month checkup.

Mrs S Glad Nicolas is doing better, just wanted to say to you and PGirl that you can't judge your supply by what you pump. Your babies are much more effiecient than any pump and often times get more than what you are able to pump. The only way to get an accurate account of how much your baby gets is to do a weigh and feed. Also some women just don't respond to the pump I was one of those I couldn't really pump much but AJ was always in the 95% percentile for weight so I knew he was getting enough :D
Have you tried Fenugreek or Mother's milk tea it does help many women.

I am frustrated with my supply, too. i feel your pain. my last pump i got 1.75 oz combined! of course DS is just over 2 weeks old right now. when i was in the hospital a nurse commented to me how she was suprised i even had a milk supply considering the amount of blood i lost. so i'm keeping that in mind--and my dr. said it will take weeks for my blood supply to return back to normal. we have a weight check tomorrow, so I'm hoping the dr.'s orders for supplementing will have been effective so i can do more BFing w/out supplementing after....we'll see. i found an LC to call tomorrow, i really need to meet with one.
mickey where could I find either of those items?

Hi guys -- I lurk here sometimes since I almost had a May baby myself. :) Anyway, I saw the discussion about drinking and BFing and wanted to chime in. Very rarely would you have to delay BFing after a normal drink or two -- the alcohol starts leaving your system (and your milk) within about a half hour after your last drink, so if you time it correctly it shouldn't be a problem. Of course, if you drink to the point of being really drunk, you might want to pump and dump for one feeding, but the alcohol doesn't stick around in your milk after it's out of your bloodstream.
And fenugreek -- if you're taking it for your milk supply, you'd need to take at least 3500 mg per day. :)

I've heard everyone say to take the fenugreek.... I'm waiting for my endocrenologist to call me back on this. I had my thyroid removed at age 22 and have been taking meds for it since then. Many herbs/vitamins interfere with my thyroid meds, so I have to get the okay from my doctor to take it!!! Most the time, vitamins etc are okay to take. I just have to take them at opposite times of the day. So we'll see!!!

I thought I responded to all of the questions yesterday, but I must have "timed-out" or something.
Q1: Are you swaddling your DC? No, but I do wrap a blanket around him at night with arms out, same as Lolly.
Q2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? DS is in his bassinet all night, sometimes at an early morning feed if I am just too tired I'll bring him to bed with me, but that's pretty rare now.
Q3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? Still in the bassinett. As for DS waking DD, we have white noise in both kids bedrooms and it is very effective.
Q4: What time is your DC going down for the night?
Anywhere between 8 and 10PM.
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier?
DS doesn't love a pacifier, but will take it occassionally. He has taken a bottle on both occassions that we've tried without fuss.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol?
Yes. On Cinco de Mayo I had to have a Corona. And on my birthday dinner and anniversary dinner I had a glass of wine at each. Those happen to be the two occassions where DS also drank a bottle, but I didn't bother to pump and dump. No need.
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots?
No.
Marisa - Hi! Feel free to de-lurk and visit anytime!!
OctoberPrincess - Great pics, your son is a cutie too!
Becky - Glad you had perfect weather and the baptism and party went well! I think Jameson went through his 6 week growth spurt yesterday too. He slept almost the ENTIRE day and most of the night! I was getting a little worried about it! Today has started out much the same way, but that should give me time to get my shower in and get ready quickly and easily!
Andrea - I've started my health kick too. I want to get down to less than my pre-prego weight because I had a few to lose at that time anyways!
Some of you have mentioned rolling over - DS rolled over from tummy to back three times on Saturday and DH was here to see it, he was so happy!
On another note, we took the leap and weaned our 2 year old from her pacifier yesterday, cold turkey. We have been telling her she's a big girl and doesn't need a pacifier and that she is going to throw it in the trash (one of her favorite things to do...take things to the trash). So after her nap yesterday we talked it up and had her do it. She was so proud looking afterwards, it was adorable. Later on though, she was quite concerned about what she did! She did manage to go to bed without it (we kept a backup just in case) and she never once got up...until 5:20 this morning and of course, she was asking for it. But that is a huge victory for us! It was a crutch for us just as much as it was for her.

Goodness, I miss a day and miss three pages!
Andrea - Great news about the test results! Good luck with your diet, I wish I had the willpower, I'm still eating everything in sight, and then feeling depressed when nothing fits yet  I'd love to work out, but I have no idea when I'd fit that in!
Babylust - Yay for getting to bring the girls home! Great pictures!
October - CUTE pictures! They are both adorable!
Delaying shots? No
Drinking - I've had one hear and there, as I did with DS, and don't P&D
Paci/Bottle - DD will take a paci, but only when she really needs it, and we don't push it at all. DS wouldn't take a paci, but found his thumb and has been a thumb sucker since. Like DS, DD takes a bottle like a champ. I introduced it early w/ both so we wouldn't have issues when the time came. I rarely stay home, and have issues w/ bf'ing in public (not in general, just my own privacy issues) so I do a lot of bottles when we are out and pump when I get home.

Q1: Are you swaddling your DC? Yes, especially at night - it seems to calm him down. We're using a swaddling blanket instead of just wrapping a receiving blanket because those never seemed to hold him.
Q2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? He sleeps in his bassinet at night. My DH is afraid of co-sleeping since LA county put out an official warning against it about a month ago.
Q3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? Haven't transitioned yet - probably plan to do that at about 2 months
Q4: What time is your DC going down for the night?
He is most awake between 10P-2A - I would love it if I could get him to sleep then.
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier?
DS loves his pacifier - we've been using one since day 5. I'm going to wait until he's a little older until I introduce a bottle. I'm going back to work when he's 12 weeks, and my ped advises to introduce then bottle at 3-4 weeks for babies that will need a bottle. I have been pumping to build up a backup supply of milk.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol?
Yes. I have had a glass of wine and BF a couple hours later.
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots?
No delaying here. I am pro-vax and looked for a ped that was pro-vax, too.

omg..i'm so ou t of touch..no idea theres a new thread.
ds is colic..im going nits
he sleeps w/ us which i hate..its better than hearing the screaming which escalates fast. my life sucks right now :(
he doesnt cry all day but screams 1. in car seat...2, if not being fed or held(by me)...i'm awful to my other son b/c i have no patience!
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier?
DS has only had 3 bottles, but seems to take to them pretty well. I don't think we will have any problem there. The pacifier is take it/leave it with him. Sometimes if he is really tired and we've tried all other tricks, we offer it to help him fall asleep but he pushes it out a lot of times before finally accepting it.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol?
I've had a beer over the holiday weekend and did not P&D, but I drank it right after his feeding, so I knew I had some time to recover.
Also, how many of you plan to delay your baby's shots?
No, we will follow the recommended schedule.
About us- I know someone mentioned in a recent post about day/night confusion. I think we are dealing with a slight case of this. Not to the point where he wants to be awake all night long, but he sleeps pretty hard from about 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM and I need to wake him for feedings, and after he eats its right back to sleep. But at night he wakes on his own every 2-3 hours. I really, really wish I could change things so that huge block of sleep came at night, and he was waking on his own more frequently for feedings during the day.... Any recommendations or do I suck it up, realize he's only 5 weeks old and wait it out? It's tough to handle since DD would have slept through the night from day 1 if we had let her. I'm not used to this.

hang in there, mrs.Chappy. have you talked to the ped about his colic? i can't imagine dealing with that. (((HUGS)))
bottles/paci DS's had many bottles of EBM, some with formula as my supply is low. ped's advice to supplement with BF because of his weight. he lost more than necessary at the hospital, and he'd lost more since he's been home. we go back for a weight check today, hoping all is going well. I know he's not back to his birth weight yet though. this pumping and supplementing business is frustrating, but i know it's necessary cause of his weight problem. i feel he's slowly losing interest in the breast because of bottles, though i'm keeping at it. :( at least he's getting my bm still though.
a nurse from the hospital i delivered at is coming by in a little bit to do a pp home visit. DS is generally a peaceful and easygoing babe. it's pretty cool, he just goes with the flow, which was how DD was too. he's starting to be more alert during the day which takes away some of my free time ;) we went outside earlier-DD, DS and I and he enjoyed it. i'm so glad the weather is nice and can take him out. couldn't do that with DD

PGirl- I'm hypothyroid and on synthroid for it. I took fenugreek and blessed thistle to help with my supply with DS. They seemed to help. Have you had your levels checked since you gave birth? A LC told me that having your levels out of whack will mess up your supply. Can I ask you a question? Do you take your thyroid meds on an empty stomach? I've had different doctors tell me different things.

Rachrich - So nice that you are getting an at-home post-partum visit!
QOTD: How often are you bathing your baby? For awhile I was doing it every day and his skin dried out so much. Now I do it every other day or sometimes even a little longer. Not more than a day or two though because we usually can't even go a day without him spitting up on himself and nobody wants to spend the day washed in their own stinky spit-up!!

sophonisba9: I take Levoxyl. My doctor has always told me to take my meds on an empty stomach. I take them first thing in the mornings. I had my levels checked at 32wks and he recommended that I come back around the time of my six weeks checkup --- so I go to see my thyroid doctor in two weeks. My levels were okay the last time my OB checked them as well. I'm hoping that is not the cause of my low supply!!!
QOTD: Bathing DC: The pediatrician advised us to bathe her every other day or so for now. She said there was no reason to bathe her daily and would cause her skin to dry out. So that's what we've been sticking to. DD loves taking a bath. I've never seen a newborn love a bath so much!! And LOVES when I was her hair. She dozed off in the tub on Saturday! Soooo much like her mommy.
MrsBeckyLP
06-02-2008, 01:49 PM
bath- Every other day, but now that it's getting warmer I think I'll do it every day. She has had baby acne for two weeks now, and I think it's aggravated by the heat. I want to keep her cool and clean for that reason. She loves her baths too!
smile- Yay for getting Maddi off the pacifier! I was worried Maddie wouldn't sleep last night because she slept all day, but she slept about as long as she normally does! She's such a good little girl!
Well, I just talked to my boss about when I'm returning to work, and July 7 is the date. My mom and dad are on vacation the week I'm supposed to go back to work, and my mom is the one who will be watching Maddie until the end of summer. So I told my boss my childcare provider was on vacation, etc., and that I needed more time off; he doesn't need to know it's my mom. I'm taking my last week of vacation and also a week unpaid, since the week after their vacation is the Fourth of July, and I think it would be nice to just be off through that week. I know I still won't be ready to leave her, but at least that gives me two more weeks to try to prepare myself. I'm dreading it bigtime. I need to stop thinking about it!
PGirl26
06-02-2008, 02:11 PM
Becky: I'm glad you'll be getting two more weeks off with Maddie. I know how you feel! I'm not returning to work until September. I took 16 weeks off, 11 of those are unpaid... But I'm still dreading it. Saturday night DH & I decided not to cook, so I went out to get us something to eat. I was gone 45 minutes tops...and I ran in and just held DD for the longest time. It killed me to be away from her not even an hour. I am devastated to think I'm going to have to put my baby into day care. I cried last night just thinking about leaving her with someone else for nine hours a day. It just breaks my heart. But at this point DH & I have no other option. We just can't make it without my income.
MrsBeckyLP
06-02-2008, 02:39 PM
Amanda- We need my income too, and I'm so mad at myself. I know you've probably read about it in my LJ, or I may have mentioned it here, but if we hadn't build this house, I could stay home. It was our own choice, and we definitely made the wrong one. But at the time we decided to built, I wasn't PG, and I didn't know just how bad I'd want to stay home. It kills me when I think about it, and it bothers DH too. He'd love for me to be able to SAH. We easily could have waited another 7 or 8 years to build a house. Why did we think, at 28 and 25 years old, that we needed to build this house??? Ugh. I just get so mad at myself when I think about it. I'm a writer, so I think I'm going to actively pursue freelancing. Then I could work from home. We'll see. I know I'll have to put her in daycare for a while, but maybe a few months down the road I'll be able to take a leap and try out freelancing full-time. I need to think of something. You're lucky you're off until September. At least my mom will be watching her for 6 weeks before she has to go to daycare, but still. I don't want to ever leave my baby! The longest I've been away from her is when I ran to the grocery store for a few things the other week! I keep telling DH that it would be lovely if he could just make millions. ;)

Boo, I'm in the same situation as some where we need my income so I have to go back to work. Becky, I'm so happy for you that you get an extra two weeks off (but jealous ;) ) And Amanda that you get 16 and so many others in this thread have lengthy maternity leaves that I drool over! I'm taking the standard 12 weeks which means six more weeks and I'm back to the grindstone. July 14th is the date and I'm dreading it. DH told me today on the phone to get everything in that I want to get done, including just relaxing if I wanted to. That made me sad, meaning it won't be long before this is all over.
I just finished watching P.S. I Love You on DVD and I cried my eyes out nearly the whole time. Whew, I'm exhausted from that (and my night with DS).

But as soon as my first was born I knew I didn't want to leave him with other people all day. While I have to work for the income, esp since DH is in school and I am the only one working, I dont think I have what it takes to be a SAHM. Granted, I cried and was not ready to go back to work when my maternity leave was over with DD, but after a few weeks back at work, it was so nice to be back to my "old self". I miss my kids when I'm away, but I think I'm a better Mom when I have a break - even if that's working! That being said, I did change jobs to a less stressful one w/ flexible hours so that I could be a better Mom as that's my priority. I think my dream job would be PT, say 20-30 hrs, and then I could be with the kids more but still be me, if that makes any sense. I give a lot of credit to SAHM's. It's a tough job!

Smile: My employer only offers six weeks of maternity leave. But I took FMLA unpaild leave for the other 10 weeks. I really wanted to be able to take the maximum time off. So we saved every penny we could, plus our income taxes and our stimulus check and made up for my unpaid leave off. With the way things worked out, I'm actually not going to miss a paycheck. If it hadn't worked out this way, I'd be going back much sooner. It would have been nice to take all of that money and pay some bills off. But being with my baby was much more important. I too am returning to a job that I dislike very much. I've been doing the same thing for four years. I work for a huge mortgage company with many opportunities. My problem is that I just don't know what I want to do within the company... to be honest, the financial business just isn't for me. So, I'm just stuck. I make very good money for someone who doesn't have a college education. And it will be hard for me to find another job making the same amount. Anyway... bottom line is I just don't wanna go back!!!!! booo for work... DH & I are currently reading through one of Dave Ramsey's books... and we're going to try to get out of debt asap... hopefully in a year or two when we're ready to have another baby, we'll be in the financial position for me to be able to stay home :)
Becky: Freelancing sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you! I certainly hope it works out for you. I know how you feel about building the house and regretting it. Although DH & I didn't do that --- we did have an elaborate wedding in September. We found out we were pregnant about two hours before the rehearsal. We paid for most of the wedding ourselves plus took a fantasic honeymoon. I certainly wish we had that $15k right now. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for that one. I should have eloped!!!

Actually, today was so freaking stressful, I spent most of the day wondering how SAHM's do it! I'm here! I'm here!
I took Abbie and Ellie to the ocean today! We've had a really rough day though, started with Ellie hating her crib last night, so we slept on the couch. Then Abbie fell down the stairs into the garage on our way out the door and I'm pretty sure she broke her nose. Poor pumpkin has a swollen nose and 2 black eyes. We are going to the doctor tommorrow for Ellie's 1 month appointment, so I'm going to ask her about it then.
The ocean was nice (we went to CT, it is my BF Katie's birthday and that's where she lives/wanted to do), but freezing cold. I actually wore a bathing suit! I kept putting sunscreen on ABbie, but she burned still...me too, but i feel so bad for her. Ellie was good though, since it was cold, she was wrapped in a towel, and then in her stroller with her big sunaht on. I'll post pictures when I can.
We just got home a half hour ago, and I'm exhausted! I'll be back in the morning for shout outs!

I would have joined sooner but Andrew has been a handful lately. He has reflux, is constipated and colicky. We've been to the Dr. twice for sick visits. He needs attention all the time. It's getting better but I wish he would get over this constipation. We had to change the dose on his Zantac and that seemed to help. My little piggy already weighs 11 lbs 9 oz!
Question 1: Are you swaddling your DC? We did in the beginning but we don't anymore.
Question 2: Is your DC staying in their sleep area (bassinet, crib, pnp) all night or do they end up in bed with you (this is for those who did not intend to co-sleep) at some point? If I don't fall alseep while I'm giving Andrew his bottle he goes right back in his crib. If I fall asleep we sleep in the living room.
Question 3: For those of you who transitioned to the crib - was your DC sleeping well before the transition? And if you have another child - how do you keep the baby from waking the other(s) up once they're in the crib? DD hasn't gotten up while Andrew has fussed. I thought she would before he came but she hasn't.
Question 4: What time is your DC going down for the night? DD 9:00, DS 9:30
Do any of your babies REFUSE the bottle or pacifier?
Andrew takes the paci only if he's really fussy. I don't want to get him hooked and then try to break him of it when he's older. Lauren never took to the paci so this is new to us.
Do you drink at least 1 glass/bottle of alcohol? Not a big drinker and I FF.
How many of you plan to delay your baby's shots? I'm up in the air. There's so much information out there it's overwhelming. I want to talk to our Ped and get his thoughts. We didn't delay with Lauren.

Kelly- Sorry to hear about the reflux, constipation and colic. :(
I'm here at 2:28 a.m. because Maddie has been up for 2.5 hours. I knew it was going to happen though, because she fell asleep around 6 p.m., woke up to eat around 8:30 and went right back to sleep. Since it's been 2.5 hours since she ate, she's starting to fuss again, so I hope she'll nurse back to sleep. Please! I'm tired!!!

maternity leave i go back in sept. with the start of school (i'm a teacher). and since DH is a teacher as well, we have the whole summer to adjust to 2 kids, esp. with an attention starved 2.5 year old. i'm with those of you who are glad to WOH, it just keeps my sanity, and it helps i like my job. i loved being home with DD on mat. leave, i just got stir crazy a few months in-i took 5 months. and the best part of my day is picking her up at daycare after work!
went to the ped yesterday and Owen is up to 7lb,8oz so he's gaining okay. we take him back next wed. for another weigh-in. the nurse who came to see me yesterday was an IBCLC....how convenient! and she helped me with some techniques, his latch is good. and she said i need to constantly massage my breast to get milk flowing in his mouth all the time he's nursing....ugh....that makes my arm hurt, but it has helped increase his sucking so i just grin and bear it. the LC and ped both said they want me to keep supplementing until he's back to his birth weight (8-5) so we've got a ways to go. this BFing, then supplementing is soooo draining, along with pumping about 7-8 times a day. i am noticing more milk when i pump...slowly but surely.

We had a horrible night. We got off to a good start. DD slept from 9 to 1:30 but then was pretty much up the rest of the night on and off.
We have a playdate this morning. My husband's assistant had a little girl 2 days after me. She lives nearby and is coming over this morning. I hope it's not awkward. It could go either way.

Maternity leave: mine ends around August 4. I had 8 weeks of my own vacation and sick leave to use, and I'm taking 2 weeks unpaid. I was home around 10 weeks with my first, and it was a good period of time for me. I found at 10 weeks I was ready to get back. I'm also not 'wired' to be a SAHM. I am happy to finally have a job I love, and it's flexible (I work from home 1-2 days/week and do a 7am - 3pm schedule). I do enjoy doing my own thing and we probably do need the income for the house, etc., that we have.
Standrea - Oh no! I hope Abbie is OK!
Baths - we bathe every 3rd day (and still do with our 3 yr old unless he gets really dirty). When we gave baths more often than that, our first DS was getting really really dry skin. Carson is taking after his big brother in another way - disliking baths. Oh well. Boys like to be dirty, right?

My mom came yesterday and today, just to hold him so I could lay down, granted she can drive me crazy she'll come in a heartbeat cause my brother was the same way and she had no one to help her. She brought me the what to expect the first year book, she said so if I had questions I could look in there too, since she's realized (today after being with him while he was fussy and feeding him) that he doesn't have what my brother had (ps) but has reflux (which she finally admitted was acid in his throat). She told me if they don't test him before she herself would make sure they test him at his next appointment or schedule it. The new formula and in combination with my breastmilk is starting to do better. He hasn't thrown up today, still has some constipation problems but the cereal and soy formula is still working out of his system. On a good note DH's job is giving him a raise this week, so I'm going to go get my hair done in the next week or so. Being a hairdresser it will make me feel sooo much better about myself. My mom is also going to bring me some of her clothes she doesn't fit into (too small) and some pants for me to wear since all I can fit into is my maternity clothes (all mine are way too small). I think if I could wear normal clothes I'd feel better too, she said she's coming with me to my pp appointment next week cause she thinks I may have a touch of ppd, since I suffered (silently might I add without drugs) from depression before I was pregnant (actually had a suicide scare when I was 15). Wow I haven't told anyone irl besides my DH about that...guess I feel I won't be judged here? Anyway, DH took him from me at 3am this morning cause he was just screaming and I was crying, so I just laid back down didn't sleep but was able to calm down and close my eyes and relax. He's sleeping on my chest right now first time he's slept all day, and it figures I'm not sleepy enough to lay down haha! DH will be home shortly, don't feel like cooking may order pizza If he still is showing signs of reflux in a week or so, when the formula and everything would've been out of his system, I'll demand him be tested before his appointment, if not then I'll have him tested before. He's been sick this week so I wouldn't want to put him through too much more. Thanks for the support and sorry this was so long I'm known to talk a lot.

Mrs Spencer, Glad your mom was able to come and help you out! You sound much better and seem to have a good plan for yourself in mind! If you think you may have PPD, definitely talk to your dr! There is no sense suffering in silince, and it is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of!! ((hugs)) Hope things continue to get better!
Just had to post a milestone from today!!
Hailey was born at 3 lbs 10 oz and today weighed in at 5 lbs 10 oz!
Madelyn was born at 5 lbs 1 oz and today weighed in at 7 lbs 1 oz!
Both girls gained exactly 2 lbs in 5 weeks! :D I am SO happy!! And all this is considering at discharge (yes, only a mere 2 days prior) Hailey was 5lbs 3.1oz and Madelyn was 6lbs 5.9oz!!! Go boobies!! :D :D

Mrs.S sounds like your spirits are lifted some. you definitely need to take care of yourself! that'll be fun to get your hair done. it seems like your poor boy has had SO many different things put in him (different formula, karo syrup, cereal) and his little baby system just can't handle it all. hopefully you're finding the right stuff to feed him, along with your BM ;) Hang in there!
babylust yes, i'd say go boobies too! LOL your girls are doing great!
Have any of your heard from Mickey? or seen her LJ? (i don't do LJ) i read in june mommies that she was going in yesterday afternoon for a c/s and she was pretty bummed out, as she wanted a VBAC. anyhow...i was just wondering if anyone knew of anything.

Holy crap Babylust! Your boobs must be amazing milk machines! Good Job!
Mrs.S-I would call your OBGYN if you think you may have PPD. They can help you out and prescribe something for you.
Mrs.C-I hope the prilosec worked!
Ellie had her 1 month appointment yesterday. Here's her stats:
21 1/2 inches
9lbs 2oz
Head circ: 34 cm
I think they measured her wrong. She's WAY longer then at birth, and she was 21 inches at birth. We do have to go back tommorrow though because her stomach was so distended, they measured it and it was about 40 cm!!! She hadn't pooped in 2 days which isn't like her, so I think that's what the deal is. Our ped. brought in 2 others to get a second oppinion and check it out. They are going to measure again tommorrow and if it's still pretty big, we'll go to the childrens hospital for an ultrasound and x-ray. I htink they just want to make sure that the NEGATIVE test result is really negative and nothing is wrong with digestive tract. I think she's fine and just needed to poop.
Abbie's nose is ok. When the doctor looked at her she said it looked at a deviated septum, but then when she did the exam, she said "wow Abbie! You're one lucky girl! You fought the cement, and you won!!". So, nothing is wrong with her nose! She just has some scrapes and bruising. I think she's going to be the kid that keeps us on our toes and in the ER!
I got my haircut and colored yesterday and I feel SO much better.

thanks for the support, had a REALLY bad night, and still not great morning. DH is working through lunch so he can come home early. I'm calling his ped his constipation isn't any better, is throwing up again, sometimes doesn't want to eat. Last night he was so arched I couldn't bend him to burp him! Several times I had to put him down and walk away, or just tell DH sorry but he had to get up. I spent 10-1 calming him, 1-3 feeding him every 15 minutes, 3-4 calming again, 4-5 I slept!, 5-5:15 nursing, then he slept till 6:30 and I woke DH up to take him cause I was sleeping. Slept till 7:30 when DH left, he handed him to me then I slept till now. I can't keep doing this, he didn't sleep yesterday till after 2pm, never took a nap! He's miserable and so am I, don't know what's wrong but the suppositories aren't working?:(

Mickey - Congrats to our last May (june, actually) Mommy!
MrsS - How did your appt go yesterday?
QOTD - What bottles are you going to use, given the BPA issue? I have a ton of Advent bottles from DD and hate to get rid of them but they arent BPA free. Advent's website basically takes the "parents have used our bottles safely for 20 yrs in 70 countries" stance. I guess the real issue is that the BPA isnt released unless you heat up the bottle. Anyway, I was wondering what everyone was going to use. I saw in a thread here that there are Nuby bottles that are BPA free that my ADvent nipples would fit onto, so that's a thought. The Dr. Browns are BPA free, but I think they are expensive and hard to clean w/ the vent system. Any thoughts?

He has a milk/soy allergy, he's up to 9lbs. 5 oz. up from 8lbs. 10 oz. last week! So he is getting enough, guess he just isn't hungry sometimes? She said it's most likely his reflux, but switched his formula to something that starts with a "n" nutragim or something? My mom bought him a swing which he loves and gives me some time to myself. Last night was much better for some reason, the doctor said he was probably overeating cause I didn't know how else to quiet him. So she said to give him his pacifier, which I didn't think he'd take, but he did. She said to only feed him every two hours (sometimes he'd want to eat every 30 minutes). If he breastfeeds only give him 2 oz. of formula then his pacifier, I did that and he only threw up a little bit not a whole bunch like before. It's continued until this morning too. But for almost two hours last night from like 9-11 he just screamed and screamed. DH laid him down beside him and held the pacifier in his mouth for like 15 minutes until ds "took" it himself and he fell straight to sleep! He slept until 2 am! Then he woke to eat, which I nursed both sides, and he fell asleep again! He NEVER goes to sleep after his 2 am feeding usually up till almost 4. He slept from 2-6 only waking because he wanted his paci back in his mouth and went back to sleep! He was sooo nice to have that time to cuddle with DH and him to give me as he says "long overdue quiet time" where he just holds me. Then this morning I feed him at 6 and laid back down with him woke when DH left to say good-bye and slept till 9:30! I've never gotten that much sleep since the night before I went into labor! He still is having some hard poops but they said I could give him a few drops of prune juice in some water only like an ounce to try to help things along. But she said that if he doesn't get much better within a week to 10 days (the amount of time it should take to see if the formula worked) then she'd give him the barium test and we'd go from there. She said she may have done it sooner, but where his bowels are already messed up the barium messes them up to and wanted to give his little body a chance to recover. She also agreed to keep giving him a small amount of cereal in his bottles but not everyday it helps to keep his food down. But she said not to till the formula itself has a chance to work to help his gass, and constipation. I have to try and avoid any and all dairy, and if he still has problems, I'll have to stop bfing since he spits up my milk now more than the formula. They are also sending us a FREE CASE of that formula since it's expensive. She said he had excellent head control, he was more alert than she expected and thinks he should already start to roll over soon! I feel so much better knowing that he's still gaining weight, and if I have to eventually stop bf, it's okay as long as my baby is happy.

I've never given either of my kids a heated bottle. DS used to take a bottle of thawed breastmilk with ice chips still floating in it. So I'm going to continue using my avent bottles. DS still drinks out of plastic sippie cups, but we never used plastic dishes. He just eats off our stonewear dishes. I'm not really concerned about the whole BPA thing.

bottles I love, love the playtex nursers too. makes life soooo easy, and we buy the target brand liners to save $$ that way. the liners are recyclable too, but i don't know of any places that take plastic #4-which is what the liners are-so i'm going to find somewhere that does. i just hate the thought of all those liners staying in a landfill. and i think the liners are BPA-free.

MrsSpencer- I'm so glad you and Nicholas were able to get some rest!! Did the doctor give you a specific reason why she might recommend stopping breastfeeding? I'd hate to see you stop if the doctor can't give you a really good reason why your milk is worse for your son than formula. It can be really hard to follow a complete dairy elimination diet. I can understand not wanting to continue breastfeeding for a variety of reasons, but if you want to breastfeed, don't stop unless you get some really compelling reasons.

so i just had to come in and post a happy nursing moment (because i'm not having many)! DH is at a meeting all morning so it's just Owen and I (olivia's at daycare). anyhow, he was rooting and alert so i went to nurse him and went about 20 minutes on the left and he was sucking SO WELL, and he conked out. i tried offering other side and he was not interested, so i laid him down and he slept almost 2 hrs!! i didn't supplement since DH wasn't here-he hates when i don't supplement after nursing since it's ped/LC orders. so i nurse w/out supplementing sometime when he's not here! and it went well! yay!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to check it out.
bottles- to be honest, glass bottles scare me, especially w/ our tile floors. But, I'm just paranoid. I'll have to check into the drop ins. I have a friend who used those and loved them. Of course, I happened to be with her when one of the lines fell out and BM went all over the place! Like sophonisba, I'm not overly concerned about the BPA b/c I only slightly warm bottles, but I feel like I need to do more research on it.
rachrich- yay for BFing! I wouldnt supplement either. ;)
Andrea - Glad Ellie's appt went well.
MrsS- Sorry to hear about the soy/dairy allergy. I had a friend whose son had reflux and would aspirate, which was determined thru the barium study. She had to quit BFing and add a prescription thickener to the bottles. It was tough on her to quit BF and kept doing it until it became apparent there was NO other way. :(

MrsS - I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time (and so is your son!). I wish things could be easier on you. I can't imagine how things must be for you now. I did want to share with you though that I had to give up dairy with DS1, all trace amounts. I didn't realize he was intolerant until he was 6 months old (until then I could not figure out why he spit up/threw up all the time). It was hard to give it ALL up (including doing things like asking at restaurants to make sure nothing was even cooked in butter...and avoiding all breads outside the home since it's hard to know if there is whey or another milk product in them unless you can read the label), and I lost a TON of weight, but it was so worth it. I breastfeed until he was 15 months (so I went nearly 10 months without dairy).
With my new baby, DS2, I realized within a week that he is not tolerating dairy either (he was throwing up if I nursed him soon after having something with lots of dairy...like a milkshake). I have given up all obvious dairy and saw immediate results, but am not being as careful about trace amounts. The doctor thinks this will be okay.
BUT, what I wanted to say is that it takes a few weeks to see complete results to giving up dairy. With my first son, things got a little better right away and then continued to improve. So be prepared to give it time.
Also wanted to say that there was another April 06 mom whose son couldn't tolerate dairy (Sevilla is her name on CC...and she has always been SO helpful to me). And she also had to give up soy as well. You might want to check out a thread in the parenting section about having babies with food sensitivities (if you haven't already). It's nice to hear from others who can relate! Good luck to you. I hope your son continues to improve. Oh and the paci has always been a Godsend around our house!!! Being a human pacifier is not fun (or necessary!).
Mickey - Congratulations on the birth of your son!
Bottles - So the BPA is only an issue if you heat the bottle? I generally only have ever warmed the milk (still in the bag, putting it in a bowl of warm water). It's all too much to worry about these days! it seems there is always SOMEthing!

Congratulations Mickey and welcome Dylan!
Glad to hear that you may be getting to the bottom of DS' issues MRS S
Bottles I bought some Born Free bottles at BRU. I had a bunch of Advents, but I heard that after a while the plastic starts to break down on its own, especially if stored in heat (mine were in the attic) and release BPA, so I figured better to be safe than sorry. I too despise pumping and I haven't done it yet, although I have to this week because my sister's bacherlorette party is next Saturday, so I will be out and Caroline will need to take a bottle.
Caroline had her two week appt. today. She is back up to her birth weight plus an ounce and looks good in all other areas. I have to say, she is such a pleasant baby, that I count my lucky stars every day - especially after her sister who was a little spit fire from day one and only gets worse each day. I know there is no medical basis for my theory, but I swear DD 1's fiesty personality is the result of me being induced with her. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if Caroline is really that easy or just seems like a breeze compared to her sister...

Babylust - that's fantastic weight gain for the girls, they just look so precious in the photo.
MrsBecky great news on Maddie's hips - you'll have to buy some new outfits to celebrate the brace coming off;)
MrsSpencer I'm so glad you're getting to the bottom, at last, of the problems you've experienced with Nicholas' feeding. You are having a really rough time, so take all of the help you can, and keep pushing for answers to his feeding problems. Honestly, you know your own baby best (even as a new mommy) and if you suspect that something is wrong, you are probably right. Hang in there!
Bottles I used Avent with DS, but had no awareness of the BPA issues - it wasn't really in the news over here. Since I've become aware of it, I've thrown out all the Avent (yes, I used to heat them in the microwave, and used a microwave sterilizer as well:() And have replaced them with Nuby glass bottles and silicone teats. I've found that most of the teats are interchangeable, so I'm using the ones that I like (a different brand) on the Nuby bottles. I've kept my Avent pump, and found that the disposable bm storage cups are ok (not polycarbonate).
DD's weigh in well, Miss Piggy has made up her weight loss for last week, by putting on a whopping 1lb 7oz in just 7 days! She also grew another 1/3 inch in length. I was relieved that her weight gain is going so well, as I'm really determined to successfully bf her, and avoid the problems I had with DS refusing to due to too much bottle feeding early on (to make up his weight loss...). So it's a good feeling to be on track.

I forgot to congratulate Mickey and welcome Dylan! I hope all is well, and I can't wait to hear more!
I also forgot to answer the bottles question.
I had received Avent bottles at my shower (the BPA story broke the day before Maddie was born, so just two weeks later), but I need to return them. I don't usually worry about stuff like this, but for some reason I have a bad feeling about this one. I stopped using plastic storage containers for food about a year ago, and I won't use bottles that contain BPA. I have some Gerber GeltleFlow bottles, and also some Evenflo ones I found at Baby Depot. Wal-Mart's brand, Parents Choice, also makes BPA-free bottles. Oh, and Medela's are BPA-free too, which is nice since I pump directly into them. But honestly, I might look into glass bottles. Evenflo makes some that are reasonably priced.
DH gave Maddie her first bottle on Tuesday, and she took it great (I think it helped that she was VERY hungry when we gave it to her). However, I think she ate too fast, and she had burps trapped for 20 minutes afterward. She cried so hard until she was finally able to work out a few burps. Poor girl. I could tell when she got the last burp out, because I could feel the tension leaving her body. I used the Gerber GentleFlow bottle with an Avent slow-flow nipple, because they fit great. Since that clearly wasn't the answer, we might try the Evenflo or Medela bottles next time. Those two nipples look exactly the same, but they are a lot wider than the Avent. I did a nipple test with water, and the Evenflo drip much slower than the Avent. Plus, I don't think DH held the bottle horizontal enough, like I told him to. Seriously, she drank 1.5 ounces in about two minutes. Next time I'm sitting next to him while he feeds her, and I'm making sure that bottle is horizontal! My mom was here when he gave her the bottle, and I think he was kind of nervous with her watching too.
I think we're going to go for a walk. It's hot, windy and HUMID here, so I should work up a good sweat. The humidity is 75%, and the air feels so heavy. That's pretty yucky, but I need to lose this belly pudge! I'm going to attempt some crunches when I return, provided Maddie allows me to! ;) DH and BIL got our weight system put together a while back (it had been sitting in pieces in the basement since we moved here in October), so I need to start toning muscles, particularly those in my butt and thighs. Believe it or not, I can see muscle definition in my arms from lifting/holding Maddie all the time, and from BFing her. Does anybody else notice that? I want to get back into a bikini by the end of the summer -- lofty goal, huh? ;)
Oh, smilewithme- How do you like the Mirena IUC? I love the fact that I don't have to worry about BC, but I've been spotting for a few days. I hear that's pretty common. Boo! At least I'm used to wearing pantiliners from my increased discharge during pregnancy.

Becky-I dont think its a lofty goal. I wore a tankini last week and felt great! Granted, it was a cute skirted one, but you can do it. I bet you'll be in it by sometime in July ;)!
We had a nice day. Abbie finally made Ellie a bear at build a bear. It was so cute and so much fun!

At one month Cate is 9 lbs 13 oz (50th %) and 23 inches long (95th%) That's 18 ozs and 2 inches in 18 days. She slept from 9:30 to 4:30, nursed for 10 minutes and then slept till 7:40. I'm just continually amazed at how well she sleeps.
So it's been 5 almost weeks since I gave birth and I thought the bleeding was almost done and then it started up again and seems to be getting heavier. It went from just a little bit of old blood to an actual flow of fresh blood. WTF! I see my doctor on Tuesday. This is so annoying. I bled for 5 weeks with my first, but the last 2 weeks were just a spotting of old blood. I know all the books say it can be months, but I hate pads. I want to go swimming and have sex. ARGH!

Mine did the same thing. I bled for two and a half weeks. It stopped, and then started all over again, just like a period. Heavy bleeding with clots etc. Mine only lasted about five days and then it went away. I still have occasional spotting and I gave birth five weeks ago today... I definitely feel ya on the swimming and sex thing! I want to go swimming so bad it's killing me.. but I don't have a pool lol... and sex? Well, I couldn't wait. LOL, I am so impatient. God help me if I go for my six week checkup and the doc tells me I'm pregnant. That happened to my cousin. Ugh. I can't even think about it. I tried to wait until I get back on my BC...But, I couldn't help it. I felt so disconnected from DH, with DD sleeping in our bed etc... ya'll don't even wanna know how many times I've given in already.. ok, TMI but just letting you know I can relate lol

Yea, I'm bleeding again! It started out with just spotting a bit. Now it's like a full-blown period. Yuck. I hope that goes away soon! Other than that, I'm loving it!
We're heading up to DH's parents house tonight for the weekend, DD is ecstatic about seeing grandma. In fact, she got up six times last night after we put her to bed and then she got up at 4:55AM today and wouldn't go back to sleep. Grandma, grandma, grandma is all she could say. Next time we're not telling her before we leave for grandma's!
Sorry no time for SO's this time, but sounds like some good news for lots of different mommies in here!

Same here. I was pretty miffed when I restarted too because I totally HATE pads! After delivering the first time, I had stan buy a big thing of pads (overnights I think) and they were buy one get one, so he got 2. I STILL haven't used them all.

Well, my little girl is officially growing up. ;) I just put her down for her first night in the crib. I'm a little sad, because this transition is just another reminder that I'm closer to going back to work. :( DH almost didn't want to do it tonight. He said to me, "I kind of like having her in here" (our room). But I was the one who actually decided we needed to do it, believe it or not! I thought a weekend would be a good time since DH can take her in the morning and I can go back to bed for a while (if the night doesn't go well).
Tomorrow we are heading to a Blues and BBQ festival. A friend of mine works for the newspaper that is sponsoring the thing, so she's giving us free VIP passes for all you can eat and drink (too bad I can't really drink). It's supposed to be nearly 90 degrees though, so I'm not sure how long we'll last; Maddie gets really hot in her harness. I might end up just taking it off her for a while too, since she can be out of it for an hour a day, and because her hips are not loose anymore. The friend we're going to see bought her a really cute outfit, and it's one that will work with her harness, so I'm going to put that on her. I'm sure my friend will get a kick out of that.
OK, I'm headed to bed. Wish me luck tonight! :D

She posted this in the June thread:
Hi Girls Were home!!!!!
We have had an exhausting few days!! The wi-fi in the hospital sucked and I was dying to get on here!!!
Well I ended up going into labor on my own on my way to my C section I labored unmedicated for about 10 hrs and got to 5 cm then because the hospital was giving me a hard time about staying in bed and the fact that the contractions were SOOO much harder to handle in bed I opted for the epidural. Unfortunatly Dylan didn't do well with that, 2 hrs later I was at 7cm but all of the sudden we lost his heart beat (on the internal monitor) for about 3 minutes and then 6 to 8 min. Before I new it were were being ran down the hall to the OR. When we got there they put him back on the monitor and his heart rate was strong again but at that point there was no way we were turning back I just wanted my baby. I can't believe I had to go threw that twice!!!
That is the very short version and when I get a chance I'll post the detailed one but for now, here he is.

How'd your first night go Becky?
Still going good here he every once in while gets fussy, but that's a normal baby, no screaming spells, so I think we found out what was wrong! He is actually sleeping (until right now) in his cradle (was always in bed with me). I have to go get some breathable bumpers or something cause he keeps hitting his head rolling (yes rolling!) over against the side of the cradle :( wakes himself up.

Well, our first night in the crib went just as well as any other night, so that's a good thing. Maddie slept from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and then she was up until 3:45 (she ate twice in that time). Then she slept until 6:15 a.m., when I fed her again. She fell back asleep, so I put her back down and went back to bed. When she woke up at 7:30, I sent DH in to get her, and the two of them played in the living room until 9:45. I slept!
Overall it was good. If we could just figure out how to get her back down to sleep once she wakes up to eat, that would be a great thing. Does anybody have tips, or is she still just too young to expect that much? I don't turn on a bright light, I've stopped talking to her, I try to get to her as soon as she wakes up (so she doesn't have time to get herself completely aroused).

Becky- Are you changing her diaper? If she isn't getting diaper rash, you might go without a diaper change. I don't even make eye contact when baby wakes up in the middle of the night. I keep a closet light on which provide the minimal light needed to navigate around the room, but I don't turn on anything else. If you are keeping things as low stimulation as possible, then it's just something Maddie will out grow eventually. What happens if you put her down before she's asleep? If Cate is still awake when she finishes nursing in the middle of the night I re-swaddle and just put her in the bassinet. She fusses just a bit and then usually settles down. Sometimes she needs the pacifer. I would keep trying to put Maddie down awake and eventually she'll be able to put herself to sleep. If she starts getting really upset then try again the next day or in a few days. It's too early to worry about sleep training, but it's never to early to try teaching them to sleep.

rachrich and LOVE Thanks ;) I did get to go into labor on my own and that was awesome! The recovery seems to be a bit rougher this time around as far as pain goes. With AJ I didn't need any meds besides Motrin in the hospital, this time around not the case. I am hoping that the pain subsides soon I just don't know how else I will be able to handle having a toddler to take care of. I am totally swollen, I must weigh about 20lbs more than when I went in to have the baby from all the fluids! It's pretty frustrating but I am handling it better than the first time around I know it will eventually go down and I will have my body back!
As far as Dylan goes he is awesome! My milk came in and he is nursing like a champ!! We had a much better night last night and he actually slept!! Unlike in the hospital where niether of us slept! We are so in love with him!! I want to suck up every minute!!! Ahh I just can't even put it into words.
Becky Yeah for sleeping in the crib! I agree with sophonisba9. I put Dylan down awake and swaddled I let him fuss just a bit and if he doesn't settle down I try patting him or rubbing his tummmy and do the "shussing" thing. If that doesn't work I pick him back up and sway with him back and forth until he is calm...Lather....rinse...repeat ;)
MrsS So glad to hear you and Nicholas are doing better!

things here are 'going'..Jake has managed to take a few naps in his crib... he is still quite the screamer. i won't even attempt trying to get him in there for the night b/c he just gets worked up and he's very hard to soothe.. we are STILL learning what works like if he is very fussy..the bjorn or sling until he falls asleep then we just wear him. Its exhausting. the swing doesnt work much...his longest naps are literally on me and he always fights the nsap. its 8:30 and i'm already w/ him in bed..its nuts..6 weeks today...i hope we are going to outgrow thhis craziness sooon

sophonisba- Yes, I do change her diaper. She hasn't ever had diaper rash, but it's usually pretty soggy in the middle of the night, so that's why I change it. I just feel bad keeping her in a wet diaper. Thank you (and Mickey) for your advice! I'll try putting her down awake and see what happens. I haven't tried that for a while.
We had several severe storms come through the area today, and the small town we live in is flooded. We were gone, and when we came back, we tried every possible way we could to get home (including getting back on the highway and coming into town from the back roads to the south), but we couldn't get home. All of the roads were flooded and closed, and there is only one street that leads directly into our subdivision. It was just a small creek that flooded -- I still can't believe it. We had to park our car on the road and walk on the cart path of the golf course to get home. I had to feed Maddie in the car while we waited for it to stop raining, and DH got out of the car and talked to the people whose house we parked in front of. Everyone was out in their garages watching the storms. I guess we got 3.5 inches of rain in an hour and a half. When it stopped raining, I put Maddie in the sling (glad I had that along!) and we walked home. Later in the evening we had to go to the wine cellar in our basement because the tornado sirens were going off. Looking at the radar, it seems like it will rain all night. I highly doubt we will be able to go get our car tomorrow even. I know nobody has flood insurance, because the area isn't even in a flood plain. Those poor people. Thankfully our house is fine, and the flooded area will not reach us.

Wow what a night Becky been through a tornado myself when I was really young, we were in a trailer hiding in the bathtub and my mom threw a mattress on us. I couldn't imagine going through it with a little baby! I hope the water really can't get anywhere near your new house, that would be awful not to have flood insurance. When we bought our house it was required even though we live on top of a small mountain! I hope you can also get your car soon. I remember after the storm was over it was flooded where we lived when I was little (not bad no moving water) we got in our swimming suits and swam with all the other kids in the streets! (very hillbilly I know, but we do live in WV!) Glad to hear everythings okay Becky.
MrsChappy I'm sorry about what your going through, and I wish it was as simple as allergies for you. I exclusivly bf at night, but sometimes it's still not enough for him and have to give him a bottle, he's also more fussy when I bf, but not all the time. I'm still going to do it until I can't even if it's once a day, better than nothing:) I continue to keep you and your little boys in my prayers, hoping it gets better soon.

MrsS- Yeah, I'm pretty sure nobody has flood insurance around here. It's just not something anyone thinks of, because it's usually not an issue!
Well, our power was out from 3:45 a.m. to 9:30. Lovely. DH is paranoid that we're going to get water in the basement, so he had to go downstairs with a flashlight and check to see how full the crock that houses our sump pump was. It wasn't very full at all, but he was getting buckets and crap *in case* he needed to bucket out the water so it wouldn't overflow. Sigh. He drives me nuts sometimes. I think the entire time our power was out, the water raised half an inch. However, I only slept for 2.5 hours last night, because Maddie went back down at 2:45, and I hadn't fallen back asleep when the power went out. I can't stand quiet, so there was no way I was sleeping then. Plus, the monitor didn't work, so I had to lie on the couch so I could listen for Maddie.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend, with better weather than we're having!

Oye Becky that doesn't sound like fun at all! Is it any better today?
Well DS has his nights and days mixed up all he wants to do is nurse all.night.long!!!!! If I was a first time mom I swear he wasn't getting enough BM but since he sleeps all day (except for when I wake him up to nurse) I know he is just fine! Can't wait to see how much he has gained tomorrow at his appt!
So needless to say I am exxx-hausted! I think I slept 2.5hrs all night! and that was with him attached to my boob!
We were suppossed to have a little meet the baby get together today but Aidan now has a fever and a bad cough and he had a rough night too. Thank God that DH is home or I might go crazy!

we took Owen to his first social outing today. A couple in our church sunday school group hosted a cookout. It was nice, but soooo hot! He was asleep the whole time, I think the heat pooped him out! And that was the first time some people got to see him.
We go to the ped wednesday for weight check. I'm hoping he's close to, if not, 8 lbs. We're still supplementing....this whole BFing thing is stressing me out. i've shed many a tear over it. So many times I'm ready to "throw in the towel" but then I think how hard I've been working at it. And I'm proud of myself at how I've been working hard, esp. compared to how pitifully i tried with DD. ugh :( I'm pumping like mad, about 8-9 times a day. I've been doing some reading on kellymom about EPing, which is what I'm seriously contemplating. gosh....i'm just tired out with trying to nurse, then supplementing, then pumping. just venting.....

Hey guys, I am still around. My mom is up from South Africa so I have been entertaining and chatting with her so no real internet time. Will catch up soon. Kade is doing well. Has one or two bad days but otherwise a good baby sleeping and eating. We took him to Chicago this last week. He was so good. Slept the whole time. I pumped in the car and fed him straight from there. Too much riding in the car is not bad hey (from Ohio to Chicago is more than 6 hours)?? I can't believe he is 1 month old tomorrow!!!

Tasha - That is quite the road trip! Glad it went well. Enjoy the time with your mom.
Becky - We had bad storms here over the weekend too and ended up in our basement for a while. Luckily, we didn't experience any flooding.
DS is sick today. He has had a fever since Friday night, when it was 103  DD has her 1-month visit today, so I'll ask the Dr about DS while we're there - and what to do if DD gets it too. I can't remember how early you can give an infant Tylenol. It's amazing the amount of stuff I've forgotten in 2 short years!
My daycare provider came for a visit a week or so ago and I happened to be researching slings online at the time. She pretty much begged me not get one. Last year she had a mom who wore her baby the whole time she was on maternity leave, then when it was time for her to go back to work, her baby screamed all day b/c she wanted to be held/worn and it just couldn't happen at daycare. I never gave that a thought, but she had a point, so I decided against the sling. If I were a SAHM, it would be another story.
I'm off to try to accomplish something while both of children are still asleep...

Congrats Mickey and welcome Dylan!
Forgot to update about Megan's one month appt. Everything looks great! Most impressing to me is her weight gain. At the appt. she was 8 lbs 12oz (6lbs, 6oz at birth; 6lbs 11oz at 2weeks) That's a 2lb gain in two weeks!!! I don't think Mary gained that much that early on. Go boobies.
STILL has her days and nights mixed up, but I'm still on mat. leave so I'm coping :)
catching up on QOTD:
Bottles: honestly haven't even read up on BPA stuff yet. Megan has been bottle fed from an Avent bottle about 3 times so far. The bottles we used for DD1 were Avent and Target brand. Guess I should do some research on bottles before going back to work.
Leave: Per FMLA you can take 12 weeks total (unless your employer approves more). And that 12 weeks includes my 2 weeks of bedrest (paid disability) and 8 weeks, also paid, because I had a c-section. I'm taking 2 weeks of unpaid leave as well. DD2 will be 10 weeks when she starts daycare.
Becky, hope everything is going better weather-wise and flood-wise in your area. We had some nasty storms come through last Wednesday around here. Megan and I were out shopping and as I was just about to leave a store and saw the black skies, DH called me and reminded me that all our windows were open at home. So thinking I would just get wet while running in the rain pushing the stroller with Megan I decided to go ahead and run to the car. Well... just as soon as I get Megan safely in the car, there were really strong wind gusts and I seriously had to hold on to the stroller to keep it from flying away. There apparently were some tornado's that touched in our area too so there was some damage from that. Anyway, next time I don't care if our house gets wet from having the windows open. Next time I'm waiting it out!
I made a to-do list for myself today. Not being at work for so long has really wrecked havoc on my ability to keep track of things and a schedule of sorts. So, instead of trying to sleep in as late as possible with Megan I'm going to get up and possibly take a nap with her later instead. I just don't get anything accomplished during the day otherwise. Oh and I'm also going to start my Special K diet today. It's worked well for me in the past and I need a little kick-start to get myself back into shape before I return to work. I stocked up on Special K at Costco this weekend.
Man is time moving fast. In fact, I have my 6 week post-partum check-up this afternoon. I can't beleive its has been 6 weeks since Cooper arrived.
I was thinking this weekend that I don't feel as if I am spending as much time with DS as I did with DD when she was first born. a 2 year old is very active and needs a lot of attention, and DS spends a lot of time sitting on the sidelines in his bouncy chair. Granted, he is sleeping much of this time, but I still feel like I should be holding him, rocking him more and more. I try to really concentrate on him during his awake time, so I hope he won't grow up to feel too neglected. :o Are any other ROs feeling this way?
So about my post-partum body...... the numbers on the scale aren't dropping nearly as fast as they did with DD. That's a bummer. But more and more of my normal clothes are fitting so that is reassuring. I was wearing pants last week in the 90 degree heat, because the only shorts that fit me were maternity shorts. But this weekend I was able to wear some of my normal shorts and was pleased with that. Although they do create a bit of a "muffin-top" so I have to be cautious that the top I wear isn't too fitted or its really obvious!
I started back to the gym last week, I'm doing a weight-training class twice a week and doing a cardio workout once per week. Plus daily walks with the dogs. My goal is that by the time we go the beach (mid-July) that I don't have to worry about how any clothes fit.... shorts don't create muffin-tops, shirts aren't too tights, etc. I want to be able to throw on anything and know it looks alright.

Bottles - this time, I want to try the type with the insert, since I'll be pumping. Last time we did the Dr. Brown's, and I hated having all those parts to clean (we didn't use the dishwasher).
We're doing well here. Carson will be 4 weeks tomorrow. Amazing how the time flies! The past week, we notice he also gets upset during the witching hour (7-9pm) like DS1 did. I hate that. Unfortunately, DS1 feeds off Carson's crying so we can have 2 criers at once. Lovely.

Are any other ROs feeling this way?
YES!! DD isn't getting the undivided attention DS got at this age, and I feel like I'm neglecting her. At the same time, I feel like everytime I give her more attention, I'm neglecting DS...and so the cicle continues...
Regarding post-partum bodies, how in the world do you ladies find time to work out???? There is NO WAY I could find even 20 minutes to my self these days. Even if I waited until DH comes home at night, he won't watch DD for more than a few minutes by himself (he doesn't do so well with newborns). If it doesn't get too hot this afternoon, I do plan to walk to the clinic for DD's WBV (about a mile each way). Maybe that will help some?

E&O I also feel like i should be interacting more with DD, but it's heaven to just let him hang out in his chair while i get "me" time-whether that be sleeping, watching TV, or getting some housework done. even with DH home it's still hard and we're having difficulty adjusting to 2 kiddos! Thank goodness Owen is pretty peaceful and laid back. there are times when he just fusses to be held so that's when i spend time talking, singing, and loving on him. Luckily, DD doesn't get jealous, she usually joins in with me.
working out i think the closest i'll get for a while is walking, and that's fine because i won't do much more than that until my 6-wk in July when OB gives me the okay. I'm still worried about overdoing it, even though i feel completely recovered i don't want to push myself and regret it.

Absolutely! I was just out in the yard with Abbie and Ellie. I had to put Ellie in her bouncy seat across the yard in the shade, because Abbie was in the pool, so I had to hang out there with her. I felt so guilty for poor little Ellie. I'm hoping to get Abbie into a preschool in September, so that will give me 2 days to have quality time with Ellie. Even if it just means walking the mall.
Regarding post-partum bodies, how in the world do you ladies find time to work out?????
Well, I put on one of the videos on the excercise in-demand channel. Abbie loves to copy me, so she'll sit there and do it with me. At night after dinner, the 4 of us (sometimes 5, depending on the damn dog) go for a walk around our neighborhood. We've figured out a way to do the walk and make it 2 miles. I'm also going to start strapping the kids in their stroller and do it in the morning too. I have a goal that I would love to hit by the time we go to Disney world in September.
Fathers Day is coming up! Anyone have anything good planned for their DH's? Stan barely acknowledged mothers day, so i'm thinking of giving him a taste of his own medicine, however, that's not in my nature. So, I'll probably make a nice breakfast, and "take" him shopping. Maybe we'll go to dinner too.
The weather here is nasty hot. It's 95 today, and will be the same tommorrow! I think we totally skipped spring, and went to summer. Poor Ellie has been rocking out in just onesies, because everything else is so heavy! I'm wondering if that is why she's having issues sleeping at night? Because she's used to wearing a gown or a sleeper, and now she's in just a onesie? She'll sleep, but only if I hold her.

weight- I almost cried to DH the other day since my weight isnt dropping nearly as fast as it did with DD. He reminded me that it's only been almost 5 weeks and I've only been working out for about 2 of those. I only have a handful of clothes that fit. My maternity are too big and my regular clothes are too small. Sigh. I wish I could get out and walk more, but it's too hot outside.
2nd kid guilt- I actually feel guilty for not spending enough time w/ Amelia rather than the baby.
father's day- Uh, Tom will probaby get nothing. :) Money is tight w/ him in school and me on leave, so we didnt get each other gifts.
Tristan had his one month appt today. He's gained almost 4 lbs from his birth weight!
Weight: 11 lbs, 5 oz (90%)

I just wrote a long post and lost it! UGH!!!
The jist of it was that the baby has been throwing up 1-2 feedings a day and has become more fussy over the last 1.5 weeks. So at DD1's 3 yr. WBV today I mentioned it to the Dr. He called it reflux and told me to add 1 tsp. of rice cereal to her 4 oz bottle to thicken the liquid and she should be able to keep that down. I'll try it tonight.
I also wanted to thank you guys for reponding to my swaddeling and bedtime questions last week. I'm trying to read along but I can only seem to post about once a week.
Yesterday was a big day in my house. DD#1 turned three and DH and I celebrated out 5th anniversary! We celebrated the day by haivng 28 kids at the Little Gym by my house. The kids had a blast. I put DD#2 in the sling and she did great!
Bottles - Playtex drop ins. I love that they are easy to iuse/clean and are BPA free - but you can not accurately measure liquid in them.
Weight - I can't even discuss this. When I think about how much weight I have to lose, I just want to cry! I'm now on Weight Watchers.
Father's Day - I had a photo of both girls framed for DH. I had the pix taken at Kiddie Kandids last week when I took DD#1 for her 3 year photo.

RO Guilt Actually, I feel like I have more time with Caroline than I did with DD1, because now DS and DD1 entertain each other and I can hang with my newest little buddy. Like Andrea, DS and DD1 will be in school 2.5 hours a day 3 days a week come September, so that will be my time with Caroline.
Fathers Day We're bbqing with the family at SIL's house. Since we just had our yard re-done, I got DH two adirondack chairs and ottomans which will be a combo gift for our 6th anniversary in October since the traditional gift is wood. I also want to get to Michaels or some craft store and get the letters "D" and "A" and take a picture of DS holding a "D", DD1 holding "A" and DD2 holding "D" and then get a three picture frame to give to him. Maybe I'll get around to it...
Weight I have four pounds to go to my pre-pg weight, although I wanted to lose 10 pounds before I got pg that I never got around to. I have my sister's wedding July 5th and I still haven't tried on the dress yet - it is the second dress I bought, since the first one I purchased before getting pg. (one of her other bridesmaids is pg now, so she was able to use the material from my dress to transform hers into a maternity). I bought another dress 2 sizes bigger, but I'm giving it another week before I try it on. I've been working out a little and started weight watchers online, although I haven't followed it very strictly.

Well, the weather cooperated today, so we walked to DD's WBV this afternoon. Unfortunately, it wasn't until we got to the clinic that we discovered we lost DS's blanket somewhere along the way. So, every 2 and 1/2 seconds DS asked, "Where's my blanket?" We retraced our steps on the way home and I had all but given up hope when I spotted something laying the middle of the street. Yes! It was the blanket! WooHoo! We lost it about 4 blocks from our house. So glad we found it.
DD's stats:
Weight: 9 lbs 13.7 oz (up from 8 lbs 1 oz at her 2-week check up)
Length: 21 1/2 inches
Father's Day: DH is TERRIBLE with gift-giving holidays - I didn't get anything for Christmas, my birthday, or Mother's Day. So, I'm pretty sure he isn't getting anything for Father's Day this year - a card from the kids and maybe dinner out, but that's it.

I just had to thank sophonisba and Mickey for their advice the other day regarding putting Maddie back down while she is still awake. The past three nights have been great. Saturday and Sunday she fell asleep during her nighttime feeding, so that wasn't a problem. But last night she was awake after she ate at 1 a.m., but she was kind of sleepy. I swaddled her up and put her back down, and she didn't really make a peep. She slept until 4:30. Then she ate again and was wide awake. I put her back down wide awake and left the room. She made a few fussing noises (I could hear through the monitor in our room). Next thing I knew it was 5:30 a.m. and I was waking up to DH's alarm clock. She had fallen asleep (and slept until about 6:45)! Yippee! Thanks for giving me the courage to put her down while she's awake. For some reason, I figured she wouldn't go down if she wasn't sleeping. (That's how it was for the first few weeks, so I hadn't tried it again.)
Becky- I've been having to do the same with Cooper. I've stopped swaddeling him because with the 100 degree heat, I just can't imagine all of those blankets being comfortable. But without the swaddle, he kind of "kicks and jerks" himself awake when we lay him down. So I felt like I was picking him again right away to help him back to sleep. But during his night feedings, when all I want to do is climb back into bed, I've just been letting him work himself back to sleep. And its been going pretty well. If he really starts fussing and crying, I'll pick him up, but last night I drifted off to sleep right away and when I woke up again, he had put himself to sleep.
Ironhair- I do go to the gym after DH is home from work, and he watches the kids. He's into working out himself, so he encourages me to go whenever I can. Anyway.... does your gym have child care? Maybe you could take an hour during the day to do a class or just some cardio. I think it helps clear your head and lets you think about something else for an hour or so. Check into child care at your gym....

e&o- Our weather hasn't been so warm yet, thankfully. If I don't swaddle Maddie, she kicks and jerks herself awake too! So I think we'll have our a/c running pretty cool this summer. What a good excuse to do so!
weight- I lost all 30 pounds I gained within about 2.5 weeks PP. However, like I mentioned before, I had gained some weight last year before I got PG. That, coupled with the fact that body parts aren't where they used to be, means I had very few clothes that fit. I've been walking, and I want to start lifting weights. Hopefully I'll be able to start doing that when DH gets home from work at night.

Becky- I'm so glad she's sleeping better for you. Sometimes we just need a little reminder to try something different.
I thought this past weekend was Father's day so i rushed around to get DH's gift together. I got him a small folding 4 part frame for his desk and put a picture of each kid and then two pictures of both kids. I had to do a lot of editing on the photos, but I finally got it done yesterday, only to find out that father's day is in a week. Doh!

Congrats on your anniversaries Becky and MrsS!
RO's DH usually takes DS out a bit on the weekends, so I can get some rest, so that is also time I spend and concentrate on DD. It also helps when he is around so that I can BF without a heavy 2.5 year old asking me for cuddles or climbing on us...... I also have DS in childcare 2 days a week, so those days are for normal baby stuff, and I manage to get some rest and do errands as well. The only thing I feel DD is missing out on at the moment is time lying under her playgym. She is either swaddled and sleeping, or in our arms, or sitting in her bouncy chair - all of these for her own safety as DS is very 'loving' and likes to lie on her:rolleyes: I'm hoping once the novelty wears off he'll leave her in peace a bit more.
Fathers Day It's not fathers day here for another couple of months. Not sure why we have a different day? At least it saves me from having to think up a gift...
weight I think I've probably lost most of the weight, but I have the tummy a bit still. And I'm not liking my huge boobs. I'm a smaller frame, and not overly well endowed, so I find most of my clothes are not flattering with my new larger chest:rolleyes: I can't really start exercising due to the c-section until my 6 week post partum. I did pilates last time and highly recommend it. I do a lot of walking too.

I just thought i'd share this with you ladies...
The birth of Eliza Jane! Fast and Furious!
May 1, 2008 9:25 pm 7lbs 15oz, 21 inches
I was told in the very beginning of my pregnancy that most likely I would be induced around the 3rd week of April, because Abbie was born at 37 weeks and was very large for me to deliver (she was born with a broken clavical). I was measuring ahead, and then behind for a few weeks. I had consistant contractions for weeks as well that were making progress.
May 1st came, and I had my regular MW appointment schedualed for 2 oclock. I was on the phone with my friend Sue at 1, cleaning the house. I bent over to pick something off of the floor, and I felt something funny tugging. It was a weird feeling that kept coming and going. I just finished up cleaning, got Abbie dressed, and we headed to the doctors office.
The appointment that day was supposed to be with my favorite midwife, Jamie. Someone had gone into labor and she had to head over to the hospital, so I saw Caren instead. They weren't going to do an internal, but I insisted. I had been 4 cm 2 weeks before, so I wanted to know if there was more progress or not. I was checked, and I was 5cm. She could feel the babies head immediately, and said my bag of waters was bulging and ready to burst. She stripped my membranes, and told me to call Stan and tell him to head home. She said if my water broke, then I needed to head to the hospital ASAP. And she also said if it didn't break by the next morning to call, and hopefully I'd be 6cm, and they would break my water. She said if anything at all happened that night, including stubbing my toe, to call and they'd see me at the hospital.
I called my babysitter, and had her come over after work. I finished cleaning the house, got my bag in the car, and dinner prepared. When stan got home, we headed to the hospital.
At the hospital I was in bed hooked up to monitors by 7:30. I was having pretty intense and regular contractions at this point(according to the monitors anyway), but I could barely feel them. My MW, Rebecca, came in at 8:15 and checked me. She said I was just about 6cm, so she could break my water, or we could go home, and likely turn around within an hour. We just had her break the water (it was 8:25 at that time).
Immediately following her breaking my water, my contractions became so intense and painful. THe nurse filled the tub and said it would take a little while, so after 3 contractions, I got out of bed. THe next contraction was so uncomfortable, that I just grabbed a hold around Stan's neck, and tried to relax. A huge gush came out, more of my water leaking (Poor stan, it hit him...so nasty!). I had another contraction, and I was in the tub.
In the tub, i was pretty relaxed between contractions, but I was begging for drugs. I had said that I didn't want anything, so I was pretty much ignored. DH kept talking me into the next contraction, which I'm glad. I had 2 contractions, and felt my body wretching. I then realized that I was pushing! I told the nurse and mw, and they said "I don't think so, not yet, its too soon". The nurse checked me (she's left handed and the mw was right, the way the tub was set up it was best that way), and I was 10! They insisted I get out of the tub, and I begged them to let me to stay, but it didn't happen.
I quickly got out of the tub, and onto the bed. I had another contraction and began to push. Stan asked for the mirror, because it helped me tremendously when I birthed Abigail. I fell asleep between contractions, and pushed 4 times. I refused to hold the back of my legs, it just wasn't comfortable. After 1 tiny push, her head was out, and her body followed! At 9:25, baby Eliza Jane made her way into this world! I couldn't believe it was only 1 hour!
They immediately placed her on my chest, and my placenta was delivered within the next 2 contractions. I had a small first degree tear, and was stiched up. My baby girl looked exactly like her sister, but smaller! I asked to see the placenta. It was really fascinating, and completely nothing like I expected.
She was weighed and measured, and then she nursed for the first time. She latched right on and we had no issues (unlike I did with her sister). I was up and walking around within that hour, and then we were moved to our L&D room.
Daddy brought big sister Abbie in friday morning, where Abbie tried to feed her baby sister a duncan donut's munchkin. We had other visitors in and out all day. We went home on Saturday morning.
This was such a better experience then my first birth, just 2 years prior. I'm so happy to have my little girl here now, and that her and her sister will be able to play with eachother very soon.

Hope everyone is doing good. I've been reading along, but nothing to really post about...
Addesyn is doing okay. Breastfeeding sucks. We're now down to nursing maybe three times a day if we're lucky. My supply just isn't having it. I've tried pumping all the time, offering the boob at feedings etc... she just doesn't get satisfied. I'll nurse her and have to turn around and give her formula because she's still hungry... she then in turn gets an upset belly/gas and cries for an hour. I doubt it will last much longer. I just know that any breastmilk she gets is better than none...
She's growing so much. And her hair is falling out..lol...she still has all of her hair in the back but the front has fallen out -- except for one small strip. She now looks like she has a mohawk! It's too cute. She's smiling alot more and cooing and talking as well. I love it. Sleep is going surprisingly well. Most nights she will sleep 4-5 hours straight...she usually gets up at 5am and then again at 8am. Every now and then we'll have a 3 hour interval feeding, but we've gone as long as 6! It just varies on what kind of day she had. Overall I'm very pleased with her sleep pattern. She is still cosleeping. I just can't bring myself to put her in her bassinett. I love love love having her next to me...she is such a cuddler..and you have to be touching her somehow when she's in bed...even if it's just holding her hand. she loves being touched. It just melts my heart.

Prayers needed for my little ten-year old cousin, who I've watched grow up, helped raise. He had a seizure Monday afternoon, and was taken to the hospital (generic hos. I hate that place) they did a ct scan they said they couldn't find anything. But then called yesterday morning and told them to take him to children's hospital that they found something. So there in the waiting room of children's he had another seizure. They still aren't sure what caused it, they think he may have epilepsy (which runs in his side of the family not related to me). Please keep him in your prayers...

Becky and MrsSpencer - Congrats on each of your anniversaries. We were lucky that my parents were in town on our anniversary and could watch Jameson for us (I pumped him a bottle). Otherwise it would have been a family affair or at home!
Not much new here to post about. Jameson is sleeping pretty good lately. I'm very worried about our upcoming camping trip. Not only for DS's sleeping patterns, but how they will interrupt DD's sleep. I am also a very light sleeper so hearing DS's grunting and squeeking all night may force me to nap during the day!

I saw the Today show this morning too and thought of Becky. The footage of the house being swept away by the water was unreal! I can't imagine....
happy anniversary to all who are celebrating. DH and I are coming up on 5 yrs! it doesn't seem like that long (not that 5 yrs of marriage is a long time) our mothers day, fathers day, and anniversary gifts to each other include putting in our paver patio out back, and a week in Myrtle Beach. We're leaving next Friday and the IL's are going also which will be nice, them helping with the 2 kids. Not looking forward to the 12ish hour trip, but we're breaking it up each way by stopping halfway to spend the night somewhere. We're staying in cherry grove in a condo that we've stayed at before. I can't wait to relax on the beach. and DD is going to have a blast there.
ETA:went to the ped this morning for weight check--Owen's at 8lbs even! Ped was happy with his gain and said not to come back until his 2month checkup. though he's not back to birth weight quite yet, she's satisfied with the rate he's gaining, which makes me happy!

Andrea, Try warming a light blanket in the dryer for a minute, then lay it in the bottom of the crib before you lay Ellie down. The warmth from the blanket will resemble your body heat and she shouldn't notice the difference. Also, make sure she is swaddled tightly! :)

Smilewithme-you just bought a camper, right? I bought a Travel Lite crib for our camper, and it worked great for ABbie last year. This time, she was in the bed by herself, and Ellie ended up just sleeping in bed with Stan and I. The fresh air really tired her out, and her normally loud noisey self was passed out. Not a snort, not a squeek, not a grunt.

Becky-Do you live near where those people lost their house? The ones that the house just floated away from the flooding? I saw it on the TODAY show this morning. So scary!
Yeah, we're about 45 minutes from there. Wisconsin Dells is a well-known summer tourist area for Midwesterners. There are tons of water parks and stuff, lots of resorts, campgrounds, etc., and it has a long downtown "strip" with tons of shops. That area is fine, but the main lake around there is now gone. It wasn't even a dam that broke; the lake just spilled over its banks, created a new channel to the Wisconsin River and washed away.
We're getting another round of severe storms with lots of rain again today, so they expect the flooding to get worse. I'm up at my parents' house; I came here yesterday just so I could get out of the house for a while! I'm so sick of feeling coooped up, especially since our weather hasn't been too great during my maternity leave. Since the storms are so bad, I think I'm going to stay again tonight. I'd rather drive in snow than rain. I hate driving in hard rain. There is a river that runs through my hometown though, and we're under a flash flood watch here too. There hasn't been nearly as much rain up here, but there's been enough.

I had to bring Ellie back to the doctor for another check today. Her stomach expanded another cm, and she only pooped once in the week, and her herniated belly button is larger, so we are now going to a gastro(something or other) at the children's hospital. The appointment isn't until july, so maybe the problem will rectify itself. I just hope that its nothing big, and that she'll outgrow it. My poor princess.
Otherwise, Ellie had her first "real" playdate today with her friend Sarah-who turned 2 weeks today. And, Abbie's friends Katelyn and violet were over too...violets mom is 2 weeks over due, so she was hoping Ellie and Sarah would talk some sense into her little one to come out! The hospital we delivered at is closing up shop tommorrow, so the baby has only 24 hours to come or she has to deliver at the other (icky) hospital! Labor vibes for her!

I had my six week PP checkup today. I am 3 lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight. I was shocked. I just knew I had packed on some lbs sitting here for the last six weeks eating little debbie cakes and watching soap operas!! I wish they would have weighed me at the hospital before they discharged me at birth. I'd say I was wayyy more than 3 lbs under. I've lost 15 lbs since my last OB appointment 4 days before giving birth. I'm pretty excited about it. I still need to lose about 40 lbs. I certainly don't want to be this weight forever. But it's a good start. Everything else went well. I had a pap. I used to hate those things. After giving birth , it didnt bother me at all lol. He also put me on the mini-pill. So, yay... I go back in three months just for a routine checkup for the pill. If I'm still trying to breastfeed then, he'll keep me on the same thing. Otherwise he will put me on a regular birth control pill.

Oh my dr. did say that I wasn't completely healed yet?? Apparantly I was "injured" more than I knew, she said there was only a "small area" that wasn't "fixed up". Why wasn't I told, she said she only had to do a couple stitches?? That sounds like more than a couple stitches to me! Nicholas is starting to calm down now, he didn't take a nap from 8-1pm today, he was sooo cranky! Going to get my hair done tomorrow soo excited then stopping off at my old job to show him off again, hopefully he's in a better mood. Glad to hear you're all hanging in there. I've been reading along but never quite get time to post.
We're doing good here. Aaron is 5 weeks now. He's a happy baby as long as he is being held. I swear I can't ever put him down when he's awake, which is difficult with an almost 3 year old to chase, but we're managing. Sleep has been rough too - he seems to be up every 2 hours or so until about 3am, and then it is every hour until 7am. Not sure what this is all about, but I can't wait till it passes!
I'm feeling good, but totally jealous of you all losing your baby weight! I still have about 9 pounds to go. Hadn't lost anything in 3 weeks, but I'm starting to watch what I eat a bit now and seeing the scale slowly move. I actually went out and bought a bathing suit yesterday, which was a horrible experience! Not fun seeing all that extra cellulite winking back at me in the three way mirror under the most unflattering light ever! Shiver! :)
Father's Day - each year I've taken a picture of Ethan in my husband's work shirts & ties. It involves a little bribery with Ethan, but Aaron didn't seem to mind. ;)

LOVE- what a fabulous idea! That will be so fun to see your little boy slowly grow into his daddy's shirts.
Cate slept from 10pm to 5:30am. I'm just amazed. It's funny that even when she's up every couple of hours, I'm not as tired as I was with DS. I'm really considering another baby. I was so sure we were done. I hated being pregnant, but DD is the easiest baby ever. DS is completely in love and is so patient when he has to wait for my attention. Things really couldn't be going better.
ETA- DH said the funniest thing last night. Cate had taken part of a bottle when we went out for dinner last night. When we got home I told DH to add what was left in the bottle to DS's milk sippy, so it wouldn't go to waste. DH asked if the bottle had breastmilk in it? I said it was breastmilk and DH said, "Oh, I guess it won't hurt him." BWAH! DH is very pro-breastfeeding, which is what makes the whole thing so funny. It just never occurred to him to give a toddler breastmilk in a sippy cup.

My poor baby doesn't feel good. She has the sniffles and a runny nose. Everytime she sniffles, she coughs. It's pitiful. I feel so bad for her.... she's still eating good and doesn't have a fever at all... so I guess I just let it run it's course? I don't know if it's just a little cold or allergies... and i know there is nothing to give a six week old... anyone have any suggestions? I've been using the nose bulb to get out as much as I can... anything else?

Pgirl you can use a Humidifier in her room, or just let the hot shower run and sit in the steam in the bathroom that will help with the congestion. DS had a cold when he was only 4 weeks old and it was so pitiful hope it passes soon!

PGirl-I was going to suggest the same as Mickey. You can also incline her crib at the head, if she's having trouble laying flat. I hope she feels better soon!
