I just purchased White Stripes Tix for my FH & I. Weird gift, I know, but it was a toss up between that or golf clubs.

The first gift I ever gave B was a cheesy little keychain with a compass on it. He was off to do a 200 mile team relay race across New Hampshire and needed to crash at my apartment for one night after the race while I was going to be out of town. I left him my keys on the keychain with a little note saying something about not getting lost.

Later on a he hit a bit of a rough patch and we didn't see eachother for a month. I wrote him a letter alluding to the fact that he knew how to find me when the time was right.

On our wedding day I gave him a beautiful compass engraved with his intitals and wedding date. The letter said something about how from now on we would find our way together... I also alluded to him not getting lost on his way to the altar. :p

It's certainly not an item that he'll probably use, but a nice token I thought. He was actually pretty surprised as said he didn't know about giving one another wedding gifts. He got me a beautiful silver bracelet on our honeymoon though.

You'll think of something... and if you don't, don't worry about it. You are giving him YOU (the whole kit and kaboodle) after all!

That's a beautiful and thoughtful gift!

I'm trying to think of something of significance to us as well :)

I got my DH two framed night sky pictures from www.indigonight.com. They show what the night sky looked like the night we first met and the night we married. He loved them and now we are thinking about getting one for the night our first child is born in October.

I'm making an album of Paul's life up until we started dating. It's a bit time consuming however, and I am able to make in without Paul knowing as he's not here!

If you like the night sky idea, Sarah, Mars will be in clear view on your wedding day (won't be like this again for another 60 000 years). That's something special!

I bought my DH some beautiful Mother of Pearl Cufflinks. (The Mother of Pearl was inset in a pattern, and the tones were blue. They are gorgeous!) I told him that he had better wear something blue as well... he loved them!

My FH is a book geek. He's in the middle of collecting a series of antique books. I bought him one in the series that was a B!tch to find! Hope he likes it. ;)

Indianapolis Colts season tickets. His birthday is close to our wedding date, so I did it as a combination wedding/birthday present.

I'm getting mine a watch. I don't know which brand yet. I got him a Baume & Mercier for his 30th bday/graduation from med school and I also got him a watch box to keep it in. My intention is to give him a watch for each major occasion in our lives. I'm considering passing down my father's Rolex to FH actually, or I might go with his own Rolex... or maybe some other brand... in any case, I am already on the lookout and we are not getting married till April!

I gave my husband a pocket watch, we're both huge fans of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and he always said a pocket watch would be a neat thing to have and pass on. He loved it, the idea was for him to wear it or carry it in his pocket on our wedding day.. He forgot :( Oh well. He still loves it :)

I gave my DH a pocket watch as well. DH has a thing for watches of all kinds, and didn't have a pocket watch ... I decided it was the perfect thing for him even before we were engaged.

It was delivered to him by one of his groomsmen before the wedding. After the ceremony he kept asking if I needed to know what time it was, so he could show it off :D

He doesn't use it very often, just on special occasions. But, he loves it.

I gave my DH a new cell phone.

We had just moved into a new house farther out of town and discovered our phones didn't work so well there. So I switched to a new provider and bought him a phone.

With it was card that read "this is the 2004 version of the ball and chain." He loved it and of course uses it every day to call me and see how my day is going!

We bought each other our wedding rings as gifts - we didn't really feel the need to do anything beyond that. I like a lot of the ideas posted here, though.

We didn't feel the need to do anything special either. We figured our rings were our gifts. And since like most guys DH was clueless about the fact that he was supposed to get me something on our wedding day I just didn't bother letting him know about it.

I think this is a rather new tradition anyways, I know my parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. never gave presents to each other on their wedding day.

I too went the watch route. My DH hadn't had a really nice watch before, so I went and got him a Swiss Army watch. He loved it! He wasn't expecting it at all. He was soo surprised that he couldn't wait to wear it while we were on our honeymoon.

I'm getting him a pair of rocking chairs for our porch. When he proposed he asked me to grow old with him, so I think the chairs are a cute tie in.

I started a book of letters to my 'future DH' when I turned 18, and gave it to him.

I got DH a watch. He always talked about how he wanted a "really nice" watch; and he always admired the Movado brand. I got him a nice silver one that he wore on our wedding day.

Every time he puts it on he'll dance a few steps with me and hum our wedding song. :)

I've decided what to get him now!!
I realized that Curt is missing just one peice to his complete formal Scottish attire...a kilt pin.

I would love to find him one with diamonds in it, or gemstones of some kind. I don't know if I have enough time but I have an old opal ring of my mother's that's fallen apart. Curt's birthstone is the opal, so I have no idea if it would take that long to have the opals set in a kilt pin I buy him. That would be a lovely gift from myself and my mom who passed away last year.
I'll go and look for pins this week...I'll keep you all informed ;)

Sarah, it would be so special if you set the stones of your mom's ring into a kilt pin. I think that would mean a lot to both you and Curt. Good luck!

I got the kilt pin!

It's sterling silver, set with a large topaz. It's not enough time to get it set with the opals...but that might be something to consider for anniversary or birthday present!

I gave him 2 things:

This keychain, with a picture of me etched into it on one side (picture is from my hair & makeup trial session, so I sort of looked the way I would look on our wedding day) & the other side was inscriped with "I love you sweetie!"

http://images.snapfish.com/3447789523232%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2329%3D%3A%3B9%3D493%3 DXROQDF%3E23235%3B47%3B3759ot1lsi

The other thing I did was keep a journal for him throughout our engagement. I wrote entries in it to him talking about our wedding plans, how I was feeling about our wedding & our relationship, memories of stuff we'd done together, etc. I used this style of journal, except I used a Hawaii license plate as the cover (DH grew up in Hawaii):

Nothing!

He certainly didn't know about the tradition, and the whole wedding was enough of an expenditure.

He bought me white roses the week before the wedding which was a lovely surprise.

And our love was enough of a gift!

I'd be careful with that. Opals are really delicate to begin with and kilt pins get knocked around a lot. And, unfortunately, lost. I'd be afraid the opal would get hit and shatter.

Just another thought...
