I know this could go in parenting somewhere but I was hoping to get lots of different ideas (including some from non-parents). If it needs to be moved please do so.
I have a fun photo opportunity with my DD (2.5 years) next week and need some ideas for outfits. This is with an independant photographer in my area, she is doing a project involving children and has offered us a free session and a credit towards any prints we might want to purchase. We will be shooting in an Urban setting in our downtown area. This is meant to be a fun, funky, and creative. The photographer wants different clothes; she suggested tutu's, cowboy boots, rain boots, fun hats, etc.
So, what would you choose clothing wise for a photo shoot like this??

Do as many outfits as you want to and let the photographer choose. If it were me, I'd go to a couple of our local boutiques and pick up some accessories like you mentioned, and then visit Target, Children's Place, Kohl's or Gymboree or wherever else to get things to go with it. You could put a nice white tee with a tutu. We have TJ Maxx around here, and a visit to their kids'/baby area often has fairy accessories (including a tutu of sorts) and other props.
Does DD have a lovey? We had a shoot like this at our home, and we got some cute photos with DDs kitty/lovey. Have fun with it.

I have seen photographers who do this. The families I have seen wore bold, fun colors. They weren't matchy, but the colors looked good together. So I guess jeans, skirts and fun looking shirts.

What about putting her is grown up dress up clothes? Depending on her personality, mommy's dress and pearls or daddy's t-shirt as a dress and his big shoes would be really cute and it seems to go with the different, edgy vibe that it sounds like the photographer might be looking for.

cocopops, I love the last photographer in particular
I would say to try to find clothes that let your DD's personality emerge. And I love a PP's idea of a lovey. When my son was just 2, I took him to Target for photos, and he brought his then-favorite lovey, a Mickey Mouse "doll." The photographer got great "candids" of him, which are still my favorites.
How fun for you! If you can, please post pics when you receive them.
definitely choose something comfortable too.
i am a photog and i have a tutu dress that i bring to little girls' photo session. i though the tulle was very soft (not the scratchy netting kind) but 2 little girls (slightly younger than your DD) just keep wanting it off!
have fun!

Does your DD have any favorite dress up clothes? How cute would a fairy princess look in the middle of downtown? :D My wedding photog acutally recently blogged about a shoot she did with a little one (about a yr younger than your little one) where they did something similar here: Jennifer Bowen Photography (http://www.jenniferbowen.net/2008/05/little-ava.html) I thought that was pretty cute and creative.

i would bring everything she mentioned plus go through dd's closet for anything else cute/funky -- hats, scarves, patterned tights, etc. i think you're asking for clothes to go with the above items? a jean skirt would be cute w/ tights and rain boots. the cowboy (or rain boots) go with the tutu. i like a plain tee with a tutu or like a white beater tank. not sure if you have a tutu, this one photographs well http://www.kaiyaeve.com/
here's our favorite photographer for more ideas

what about toys? a vintage pull toy, a funky old wagon.

Thanks for all the ideas, I love them! I am so excited, all I want to do is go shopping!
She does have a tutu that I will use (although I am tempted to buy one of the ones that danab posted...they are ADORABLE), I just need to find a cute shirt to go with it. Also, it is a short one should I just find some leggins to do underneath?
I also like the fairy idea, I think I will at least try to find some cute wings or something.
Thanks again, keep the ideas coming. I will try to post some pics if I can.
