It was officially announced today: The new season of Survivor premieres on Thursday, September 15 on CBS. Is it too early to start posting speculation? :D
From SurvivorFever.net:
Official Cast Announcement in Early August
Survivor fans are anxiously anticipating the Fall premiere of the eleventh installment of the popular CBS reality TV series, Survivor. Filming of Survivor is still ongoing in Guatemala and is expected to wrap sometime during the first week of August. Several Survivor related websites are already speculating about the show's cast. Seven contestants have been unofficially revealed at this time with the mainstream press picking up on the news. According to a Grand Rapids Press article about outted contestant, ex-NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom, the Survivor premiere will be September 8th. The article does not cite sources but claims:
The show is being taped in the Central American country and will air beginning Sept. 8.
Also according to the Grand Rapids Press article:
"We cannot confirm nor deny" who is competing in "Survivor: Guatemala," CBS spokeswoman Kim Sartori said. "We will announce our cast in early August." A September 8th premiere would fit with the official CBS cast announcement in early August. The Survivor: Guatemala cast are expected to return home sometime around August 5th, expect to see an official cast announcement sometime after that date.
Here's some more info on the one contestant people seem to be pretty sure about:
http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/graphics/albums/GaryHogeboomPreGame/HogeboomCowboysCard.jpg
Hogeboom, who turns 47 next month, has three daughters and a son with his wife, Kristi. Hogeboom quarterbacked for Central Michigan from 1976 to 1979. He played in 10 NFL seasons with three teams, including the first six with the Dallas Cowboys.

Rumor is that Stephanie and Bobby Jon from Survivor 10 (last season) are coming back in either a player or coach capacity. They were the last two from their tribe to be voted off, Stephanie spending the night at camp by herself for those of you who didn't watch.

If anyone wants to peek, someone online has photos of a bunch of the supposed contestants on Survivor: Guatemala. This is unconfirmed, of course. Stephanie and Bobby Jon are on this list, which is very interesting and seems to confirm what was posted above.

I'm confused as to why Stephanie and Bobby Jon are back. If they were coaches, what does that entail? I have to admit, I'd be kind of disappointed if they were players, as I want to see an all new cast.

I would be all over Fantasy Survivor... but my wedding and honeymoon will be right in the middle of this season and I know I won't be able to do picks during that time. Have to sit this one out.
As for Bobby Jon and Stephanie returning, it's entirely speculation right now. This is what someone said on survivorsucks.com:
Twin Hero Gods from the Mayan Empire. BJ and Steph!
Cool idea huh? Have them each be a captain for each tribe. They will be able compete in challenges. They can never be voted off. They can also never win the million. This way get a whole season of Steph and BJ (Guaranteed ratings), and we get to see them complete. They also get an automatic jury spot in the first Survivor where we have 9 jurors instead of 7.
Probst said there are 18 contestants. Rumor is there are 20. Both are correct. Only 18 can win the million. 2 have the power of the gods...but being a god has its curse, no chance at the million either.
(Just for the record, I hate this idea.)
Also, I read this online:
CBS' 'Survivor: Guatemala' to premiere September 15, cast info continues leaking
By Steve Rogers, 08/04/2005
CBS announced today that Survivor: Guatemala, the eleventh edition of the long-running reality series, will premiere on Thursday, September 15 at 8PM ET/PT. Joining Survivor: Guatemala in getting a one week jump on the official start of 2005-2006 television season will be Threshold, the network's new scifi drama that will debut from 9-11PM ET/PT with a special two-hour premiere.
While CBS is withholding any new details about Survivor: Guatemala for now, the network has previously announced that Survivor: Guatemala will feature eighteen contestants (a drop from the twenty featured in Survivor: Palau) who will "embrace the ancient Maya lifestyle" and live in the authentic ruins of a vanished civilization -- a first for a Survivor series.
According to Guatemalan reports, Survivor: Guatemala (which is believed to have just wrapped filming) was allowed to film in the Mayan ruins located within the country's Yaxhá national park -- a decision that was not without controversy.
Although CBS won't be revealing any details about Survivor: Guatemala's contestants for several more weeks, that doesn't mean that the show's online spoiling fanatics haven't already started disclosing their own information about the castaways. In addition to last week's discovery that former Dallas Cowboy's quarterback Gary Hogeboom will be competing on Survivor: Guatemala, as of now, online sleuths claim to have uncovered the identities at least six more castaways. Among the additional Survivor: Guatemala contestants that various online spoiler sites allege to have "outed" are Danni Boatwright, a 30-year-old actress/model and former Miss Kansas USA from Tonganoxie, KS; Morgan McDevitt, a 21-year-old model and sorority girl from Sullivan, IL; Brooke Struck, a 26-year-old lawyer from Hood River, OR; Blake Towsley, a 24-year-old model and realtor from Dallas, TX; Rafe Judkins, a 22-year-old recent Brown University graduate from Pittsburgh, PA; and Margaret Bobonich, a 43-year-old woman from Chardon, OH.
In addition to the above model-heavy list of contestants, Internet sites have also been buzzing with reports that Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa -- the hardworking final two members of Survivor: Palau's incompetent Ulong tribe -- have been participating in Survivor: Guatemala, although whether they've actually been allowed to compete as returning contestants remains unclear.

I can't wait. Survivor is my first love when it comes to reality shows. Last season was awesome, I thought, and I hope it heralds a return to this show not sucking.
As much as I loved Stephanie, I don't think they should bring her back. That was last season. It would be gimicky to have her on this season in some capacity.

Survivor Guatemala Cast To Be Revealed on The Early Show
www.realitytvmagazine.com
CBS News' The Early Show will announce the cast for the newest edition of CBS' popular reality series Survivor Guatemala: The Maya Empire on Thursday, Aug. 11 (7:00-9:00 AM, ET/PT). The 11th edition of the Emmy Award-winning series debuts on Thursday, Sept. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). However, some reality TV websites have already revealed some very interesting possible cast members.
The website Survivor Phoenix (via RealityBlurred.com) has listed ten potential cast members. At least three of the names should sound very familiar to many people. Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa, who appeared on the recent Survivor: Palau, are listed by Survivor Phoenix as Survivor Guatemala players. If this report is accurate, then perhaps CBS took pity on them being stuck on the worst Survivor team ever and is giving them a second chance.
Perhaps the most surprising name on the list though is a former NFL quarterback. Gary Hogeboom, who at one time played for the Dallas Cowboys, is rumored to be a contestant on Survivor Guatemala. The possibility of Gary Hogeboom being a part of Survivor has also been reported in the Detroit Free Press and on Fox Sports.

Here is the cast photo:
http://wwwimage.cbsnews.com/images/2005/08/11/image770427x.jpg
And the article from the Early Show:
This season, 16 castaways will be stranded amid the ancient Mayan ruins of northern Guatemala.
It's in the harsh Central American jungle that members of the new cast will compete against each other, and the elements, for the $1 million prize and the right to be called the "Survivor."
The contestants were announced on The Early Show.
If the name Gary Hogeboom sounds familiar is because the Grand Haven, Mich., resident played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
"I don't want to go by my last name on the show," the 46-year-old says, "People would vote me off immediately if someone knew I was in the NFL. Everyone thinks we made big money. I was pre-big money."
He is not the only one who wants to downplay his identity. New York City resident, Brian Corridan doesn't want others to know he is an Ivy League student.
"It's a big secret," the 22-year-old says, "That's just a stupid thing to tell people. It hides my intelligence. You don't come out here and tell people you're better then them. That's just dumb."
Dallas resident, Blake Towsley's strategy is to play the love game. The 24-year-old who sells commercial real estate says, I can't see myself establishing a relationship on 'Survivor,' but it's a facet that I will exploit to the best of my ability in order to win."
Well, he probably will not have any luck with 39-year-old Amy O'Hara. She is a police sergeant in Revere, Mass., and she warns, "If you think you're going to play me, think again."
Brianna Varela, a make-up artist from Edmunds, Wash., plans to use her powers of persuasion.
"I sell $285 wrinkle cream. Do you really need $285 wrinkle cream?" the 21-year-old asks, "That's my job. I sell women what they don't need."
Perhaps expect to see some magic from Decatur, Ill., resident, Morgan McDevitt. The 21-year-old works as a magician's assistant.
But you won't see any girly girl stuff from Danni Boatwright. The sports radio talk show host in Tonganoxie, Kans. Says, "Some of my friends say I'm like six inches away from being a guy. I'm such a tomboy. I love sports, etc. There's nothing girly about me." She is 30 years old.
Also from Kansas is Brandon Bellinger. The 22-year-old farmer is from Manhattan. From Naples, Fla., is 31-year-old Cindy Hall. She is a zookeeper.
Lydia Morales, 42, is a fishmonger in Lakewood, Wash. Jamie Newton, 24, is a water-ski instructor from North Hollywood, Calif. Judd Sergeant, 34, of Ridgefield, N.J. works as a doorman at a New York City hotel.
Brook Struck is 26 and a law student in Santa Monica, Calif. Also a student is Rafe Judkins. The 22-year-old is from Providence, R.I.
Margaret Bobonich, 43, is a family nurse practitioner from Chardon, Ohio. And Jim Lynch is a retired fire captain from Northglenn, Colo. At age 63, he is this season's oldest competitor.
Who among these 16 castaways will be able to "Outwit, Outplay and Outlast" the others for 39 days of intense competition in the Central American rainforest? Only the Mayan spirits know for sure.
In addition to the grueling overnight hike, the castaways will be faced with two additional surprises in the first episode that will dramatically impact how they play the game.
The 11th edition of the Emmy Award-winning series debuts on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

About spoilers, I think if you have one, just make sure that you post SPOILER at the top of your post and then leave lots of space so if anyone wants to skip it, they can. That is my thought on that subject.

From Survivor Fever:
Possible Cast Twist Revealed
Two former Survivors from Survivor: Palau will participate in some way, unclear if they will be tribe members or mentors or if they actually get to compete in some way. We've been told that the two are the very popular Stephenie LaGrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard.
We have reason to believe that Stephenie will be on the blue Yaxha tribe therefore Bobby Jon by default must be on the yellow Nakum tribe. Evidence below:
In Rafe's video, which appears at CBS.com, there is a quick snippet of Yaxha tribe sitting around camp together. Just to the right of Rafe you can see the forehead of a female. That female's forehead appears to suspiciously resemble Stephenie's LaGrossa's forehead, with a widows peak and lighter streaked highlights.

Jenna Morasca, winner of Survivor: Amazon, posts on another message board that I'm on, and she had this to say about the upcoming "twist":
I see there is some major debate about past survivors being on this season on these boards. I have heard from a source that another special guest is going to be on the show in addition to Steph and Bobby Jon. So maybe there is one extra past survivor which will make 20 people total. The 16 castaways Steph, Bobby J, ???? (I cant say), and the last mystery past survivor! I really hope it all isnt true though, its already enough with Steph and BJ on, no more past survivors unless its an all star pulease!
I am in the process of updating my website and some other good stuff you guys will know soon.
Thanks so much for all of you being so great and such good fans, and keeping this thread going!
Many people are speculating that another past Survivor that may be appearing is Mike Skupin from Survivor: Australian Outback (Mike burned his hands in a fire and had to leave the game).

I am so psyched about this year! They had a Survivor Australia marathon on the OLN network yesterday, I sat and watched all day long, my DH thought I was freeking nuts! I hadn't gotten to see the whole season that year, so I was especially happy that I got to "catch up". I love Mike, and it was such a shame what happened to him, I really think he'd have won! I just wish if he is one of the ones that comes back this year, they pay him or something to compensate him for not being able to finish his year.
You know what's funny.....This is the, I think 8th Survivor, and they just started in 2000. That's only 5-6 years ago. It seems like "forever" ago when the original started. I am still watching that one too, I have it on the DVR, and am only up to about the second show after the merge, maybe 3rd. But, I had to stop for the Australian one yesterday! Now, even though I have all those on the DVR, I can erase until the final few shows of that one. Then I believe "Africa" starts, and I've already set up the DVR for that. Geez, I am so excited!!! I love reality tv!!
ETA: Oh, wanted to add, it's so funny the first and 2nd Survivors, how many clothes they had with them, and rain coats, etc, by the 4th or 5th one, they had nothing but the clothes on their backs. Plus, the first ones, they gave them rice, now nothing! It's really kinda funny to watch the differences, and how icky dirty they end up getting. I don't think the first batch of survivors, Sue, Rudy, etc would have made it like they did on AMazon, etc. No food, and remember that ugly yellow shirt Heidi (or was it Jenna?) from Amazon wore, I was soooo sick of it by the time the show was done, the first Survivor, they have 5-6 different bathing suits, etc. What a change over the seasons! :D

You make me crack up!!!! Yes, the clothes will be torn up in days!! But if they would all wear things appropriate that wouldn't happen!!
Do you remember the season that one of the guys wore a three-piece suit like an idiot?? Of course, that was the year that the contestants were tricked and told they were going on a photo shoot when in reality they were beginning the competition! :D Anyway...that suit was a complete mess within maybe ten minutes of him getting ashore, plus he had to swim in it and his fancy dress shoes!!
The girl in the blue sports bra/tank top thing is gonna be really sorry she wore that. No sun protection at all not to mention that when it gets chilly at night, she will be the first one to want to sleep by the fire cause she's cold. Honestly, don't these people think about these things when choosing their ensembles?? It's not like they don't have plenty of previous shows to draw on!
Now, 'Ms. Gilligan'...the smartest one of the bunch so far. She wore a hat!! Good thinking. The heat and sun there is going to be absolutely unbearable and probably the worst of any show they have done so far. She had better guard that thing with her life!! The rest will be stuck with only their bandanas for protection. Of course, the girls will turn theirs into tank tops and miniskirts anyway.. :D

Hmm..that's an excellent question. It appears that the bags match each other, so I am wondering what may (or may not) be in them. Does anyone know if they still allow the contestants to bring one "luxury" item with them?? I know that they did do that with Seasons One and Two.

I don't think so. I haven't seen any luxuries since Africa when one of the women brought paints. I think all they get is a tine bag with a couple changes of clothes now, if that.
That girl in the green, off-the-shoulder top cracks me up. She looks like she thought she was going on vacation. Is that REALLY practical to wear in the rain forest?

ITA!! Like I said, it will be in rags by the end of the first few days. The girl in the pale blue sports bra and sweatpants is killing me!! The bra aside; those pants will be filthy, raggedy and completely unrecognizable very, very quickly. And do you see how long they are?? Ten to one she trips over them at some point during their 12 mile hike to their camp. I mean, come on, girlfriend!! This is not "Top Model", it's SURVIVOR!!!!!

LOL, you guys are cracking me up! And you are totally right! What are some of these people thinking? (thinking they need to look good on tv)! I always thought a hefty pair of those zip off pants would be ideal. And a hat is a must. I wonder what kind of string bikinis we will be seeing.

I have never understood why women bring bikinis. I'm sure they want some air time on television, but if it were me, I would bring a two piece suit with those boy short bottoms and a tank top. That way you don't have to worry about things falling out and you can wear them for clothes as well.
Clearly, I've spent too much time thinking about this. :p

I was watching the Survivor Africa reunion show. They actually asked Amber why she wasn't in a better bathing suit! She said that her and Elizabeth had the same thoughts....that they were going to have to compete, run, jump, swim, etc in those suits and they didn't want anything coming out, or hanging out. That would have been my thoughts too. I guess Jeff thought they should have dressed sexier or something?!

I clearly remember several different seasons where 'things falling out' has occured with the ladies. The telltale blur gives it away every time. I would be so embarrassed if that happened to me, but on the show, they don't even stop what they are doing to make the adjustment needed!! Guess there's no room for self-consiousness when you are in the middle of competing, huh??

Saw this on CNN this morning and thought I'd share it with other Survivor fans, even though it's not about Guatemala...
'Survivor' winner indicted
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (AP) -- Richard Hatch, who won $1 million on the first season of the reality show "Survivor," was indicted Thursday for failing to pay taxes on his winnings.
Prosecutors had charged Hatch with two counts of tax evasion in January, and he agreed to plead guilty. But he backed out of the deal in March, saying he thought CBS was responsible for paying the taxes on his prize.
CBS has said Hatch knew he had to pay taxes on the winnings.
The new indictment charges Hatch with 10 counts including tax evasion, filing a false tax return, wire fraud, bank fraud and mail fraud. According to the indictment, his 2000 and 2001 tax returns omitted his income from the reality show, $327,000 he was paid to co-host a radio show and $28,000 in rent on a property he owns in Newport.
Hatch, 44, also was accused of misusing $36,500 from a nonprofit camp he set up, Horizon Bound.
If found guilty on all charges, he could face up to 75 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines.
Hatch was on a plane headed for Houston on Thursday to help hurricane victims at the Astrodome and could not be reached for comment, according to a spokesman for Hatch's attorney, Michael Minns.
Hatch won during the first season of "Survivor" in August 2000. He has since appeared on other TV shows, most recently the "Battle of the Network Reality Stars" on Bravo.

I saw that yesterday. Isn't his accountant a bit responsible too? He actually did the returns without those added incomes, I'll bet he's sweating bullets too, especially if he signed them and then Richard turned them in.
Doesn't pay to try and fraud the government, especially when you get that money in such a visible way. Can we say, stupid??

Do you remember the season that one of the guys wore a three-piece suit like an idiot?? Of course, that was the year that the contestants were tricked and told they were going on a photo shoot when in reality they were beginning the competition!
I remember that! I'm pretty sure it was Pearl Islands. Later on one of the girls gave part of her dress or skirt or something to Rupert to wear.
lady1297

Yes, Rupert's skirt!! Loved it!
As for Richard Hatch. He had an accountant. Should he be as resposible if not more so on the ethics of it? I mean, Richard is a shrew, yes. But the accountant agreed to sign it over falsely! He should know better!
Ah, bikini's! It must be a ratings thing.

Probst talks 'Survivor Guatemala'
Two familiar faces are returning to ‘Survivor’ but host Jeff Probst isn’t saying who the former players might be.
“I supported the idea because I think socially it is a really great question. People see it very differently and I think people are going to react very differently. So people will say…’No. No. No. You had your chance. Go away.’ In my thinking that is shortsightedness. That is putting some silly ego or pride ahead of the goal and the goal is…How do I get further in the game?,” Probst told Jam! Showbiz of the latest ‘Survivor’ twist.
Probst revealed that the producers did mull the twist over and created a list of potential candidates before they decided who would get a second chance to play the game. Probst nixed the idea of allowing America to pick the returning Survivors.
“My feeling was you cannot trust America to vote in two people that have the qualities we need. People can get on the Internet and people can have their friends call in and suddenly we are left with someone who was voted out first from four seasons ago who nobody remembers. You can’t do that,” said Probst stating that the two most important criteria to the producers were who the audience would like to see again and that there must be clear justification for bringing those people back. The gossip mill claims Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie Lagrossa from the doomed Ulong Tribe from ‘Survivor Palau’ will be coming back to captain the two rival tribes on ‘Guatemala’ and possibly redeem themselves.
In the back of his mind, Probst realized that the twist could fail miserably if both returning players were targeted immediately and voted off but producer and series creator Mark Burnett supported the decision.
“(Mark) Burnett allows us to take risks, knowing we might fail but believing even if we did people would come back and give us another chance,” said Probst, who is still very much in love with ‘Survivor Vanuatu’ contestant Julie Berry. In fact, Berry lived on the set of ‘Guatemala’ while Probst worked on the series.
‘Survivor Guatemala’ will also feature another familiar face: former NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom. During his career, Hogeboom played for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and Phoenix Cardinals. According to Probst, Hogeboom persistently lied about his football background so he would not be targeted by the other players. During the series, Hogeboom claimed to be Gary Hawkins, a lowly real estate developer, which is Hogeboom’s current vocation. During one of the first challenges, Danny Boatwright, a sports radio talk show host, recognized Hogeboom but he refused to acknowledge his true identity.
“He didn’t hesitate to lie,” Probst said of Hogeboom. “He’s got to run this little game of…I’m good enough to keep around. I am not so good that I can beat you and no, my name is not Hogeboom. It is Hawkins.”
Set in the Mayan ruins of northern Guatemala, the series begins with a punishing eleven mile overnight hike through the jungle as the tribes race against each other to win fire and their choice of a camp site. The trek was designed by planners from Mark Burnett’s ‘Eco-Challenge’ series.
“It is the toughest beginning ever,” said Probst revealing that many of the players passed out or became sick from the ordeal. Probst termed contestant Margaret Bobonich, the family nurse practitioner, as the star of the first episode since she looked after many of the ill players.
As the series rolls into its eleventh season and running out of islands to visit, Probst claims that ‘Survivor’ is still above other reality shows because it has more soul and integrity.
“There is so much reality on television but ‘Survivor’ is in a category of its own now,” he said.
Probst’s assessment of the ‘Survivor Guatemala’ contestants
BRANDON BELLINGER: Has a smart mouth and pretended to be the dumb farmer. He is very likeable.
DANNI BOATWRIGHT: Is an athlete and comes from a family of strong competitors. Does not like to lose.
MARGARET BOBONICH: Star of the first episode and was seriously concerned about one of the players during and after the hike.
BRIAN CORRIDAN: Thinks he is ‘Richard Hatch Lite’.
CINDY HALL: More comfortable around animals than people. As a zoo keeper, she knows a lot about the outdoors and the animals which populate Guatemala.
GARY HOGEBOOM: Used an alternate persona to hide the fact that he is a former NFL football player. Might not have given his all at the start to hide his athletic background.
RAFE JUDKINS: An understated personality who studied Mayan culture before he even knew he was selected to be on the series. Probst believes viewers will rally behind him.
JIM LYNCH: A know-it-all who likes things done his way.
MORGAN McDEVITT: Probst didn’t have faith in her at the start. She changed his mind and is seen as sort of an underdog.
LYDIA MORALES: Knowledge of fish won’t come into play as there is not much opportunity to fish where the camps are situated. The water there is muddy and dense. Very charming. A survivor in her own life.
JAMIE NEWTON: Has a chip on his shoulder. Always intends to do the right thing and has a good heart.
AMY O'HARA: Has a little bit of Twila in her. She has a big mouth but is very, very tough.
JUDD SERGEANT: A hot head but is a strong player because he has studied and understands the game. He knows what he has to do to endear himself to the other players.
BROOKE STRUCK: Sharp and calm. A leader.
BLAKE TOWSLEY: Most of the men involved in the casting liked him. The women didn’t.
BRIANNA VARELA: She had another reason for being on the series. Probst: Something else was going on. He is not sure what she was looking for from the experience.

I'm soooo happy that Stephanie is back too!! For a minute I thought they were bringing back Amber and Rob. Well, they did say "Survivor's most popular players" so I got scared it was them. I'm so glad it wasn't!
I can't believe most of the men got sick after the hike, and that the girls were fine. WOOHOO girl power!
Great season opener, I've already got our DVR set to record the whole series. The first Survivor and last season are the only ones I watched straight through, but I'm officially addicted now. :)

I'm not surprised that the guys got sick and the girls didn't. For one thing I'm sure the guys carried all of the weight along the way and they probably also drank less water so the girls could stay hydrated and keep up. Plus usually guys have less body fat and therefore their muscles would cramp up and such before the women. Hopefully after a few days they'll all be back to normal. I would hate for the season to be ruined because players are too dehydrated or other ailments and not able to perform to the levels we are used to seeing.
So what do you all think will happen with Stephanie and Bobby John? If I was out there I would keep them around for awhile for both their strength and their knowledge but I think that the last challenge before I thought a merge would occur I'd make sure to vote them out. Once it gets to individual challenges they will be hard to beat.

I was a bit disappointed to see Bobby John, I was hoping for Mike from Outback! And how sick he got, what a shame. I'm thinking that tree might be poisonous, or how can he still be so sick?

I was so happy to see Stephanie! I'm with everybody else rooting for her team! Stephanie was the perfect person to bring back because she really was a true Survivor! I was thinking the same thing re: the guys all passing out and the women not... our muscles feed on water, they can't survive without it, and since guys generally have a bigger muscle mass percentage, it would make sense. Especially since most of those guys are pretty muscled-up. and the more muscular the guy, the more affected he seemed to be...

I think Blake's roblem is dehydration couples with serios pain. His body was really hurt bad by that tree. The pain, which he has to deal with without any meds (and none of us are used to that kind of pain with out meds), has to be excrutiating.
Bobby John, well, he should have known better. Water is more important than any of that other food. THey should have loaded up that, and little to nothing else.
jimmysgirl424
09-16-2005, 05:44 AM
Hands down; that was the toughest and most brutal beginning to Survivor ever!! I was horrified to see how quickly the guys got sick. Makes sense that they would be the quickest to suffer dehydration though. Bobby Jon really scared me when his eyes started rolling back in his head. I told DH I thought the medics were going to have to come on the set and take him out of there. Poor Blake. I backed up my DVR and took a good look at that tree that fell on him. I really think it may have been poisonous. At first I thought it was just the combination of pain and dehydration, but the preview for next week shows him still really, really sick. Those thorns on that darn tree went really deep into his skin. If they were poisonous, he's screwed.
DH and I were positive it was going to be Jim voted out as soon as we saw his poor arm in that homemade sling. No way could he be a productive member of the tribe with an injury like that.
I loved how they introduced Bobby Jon and Stephanie into the game! That was just too awesome!!
Ya know, I have been watching Survivor since the very beginning of the series. I can easily say that this season is going to be the most grueling of all. The heat, the humidity, the downpours, the jungle, the snakes and other dangerous animals...oh, and let's not forget about.....poisonous trees???? Holy crap. What a show!! I'm totally hooked. Can't wait for next week!! :D

This is definitely going to be my favorite Survivor, not because of the players, but because of the location. Hubby and I spent 3 days in the middle of the jungle in Belize (east of Guatemala and south of Mexico) in January and it was awesome. We stayed at an adventure lodge called Cave’s Branch (http://www.cavesbranch.com/) and we went on two adventures with guides in the jungle. Each adventure included a whopper of a hike, but nothing like 11 miles. That is insane. And we had guides who told us what not to touch, watched out for snakes for us, and carried our lunch. It was the hardest hike I have ever been on. We each had to take 3 liters of water for ourselves.
So, it was so COOL to see them hiking in the jungle and to have actually been there. Our guides told us that the tree that hit Blake is called a “Give and Take Tree.” We were instructed not to touch them or even go near them. However, our guides did say that if you got the thorns in your skin, you could peel back the bark of the tree and put that on the site and that would take the pain away, thus the name “give and take.” I don’t think it makes you sick though, so I think Blake is having some other issues and a very hard time adjusting.
I cannot imagine sleeping in the jungle with a howler monkey right above me! Holy cow! (that is what those black monkeys were, howler monkeys) They are so loud. We stayed in a cabin that had screens instead of windows and we woke up to them howling in the middle of the night, but we didn’t know what they were. Freaky! And we had a cabin to protect us. I would have been scared out of my wits had I been just lying in the jungle with a monkey in the trees above me.
There are roots on some trees that will give you a rash. Our guides pointed these out to us and told us not to touch them. I have no idea how they knew which ones were bad, but they did.
The other thing I was really concerned about were the snakes. There is a poisonous snake called a fur-de-lance that can kill you. We didn’t see any on our hikes, but another group did and they had to turn around and go another route to their destination. You just steer clear of them if you see them!
The most common encountered poisonous snake that causes the most bites is the Fur-de-lance. This specie (Bothrops asper) is characterized by its lance shape head and long serpentine-like body. The color pattern is tan with dark brown diamond patterns along its sides. Average length is between 4-6 ft, though some have been found to be a long at 8ft. Its venom is very powerful, and even juveniles can be lethal. Juveniles tend to be more lethal because the larger snakes tend to ingest more of their venom than the smaller ones.
from here (http://www.samford.edu/schools/artsci/biology/peru03/animals/venom/thingspage.html)
Another thing I was wondering about are the mosquitos! Oh my gosh, they are horrid in the jungle and a very small percentage of them can carry malaria in that area. We had DEET on most of the time and they left us alone, but these people are going to be eaten alive if they don’t have any bug spray.
And the last thing, then I will shut up…………….I am dying to see them try and start a fire. It is so humid there and everything is damp. Even our linens and blanket on our bed were damp. When we were on our way back from Belize and in the Atlanta airport, we got our sweatshirts out of our bags and they were damp from being in the jungle. It’s going to be very hard to start a fire with nothing that is truly dry.

Hmmm...thanks for the info on the Give and Take tree, Mindy3094!! It's a shame nobody on the tribe knows what they can do for him to take away that pain. So, maybe it really is just a combo of pain and dehydration. Plus, that humidity has got to be a killer!
Did I mention that my favorite player so far is Margaret? She rocks!! :D
Mindy3094
09-16-2005, 08:59 AM
I don't know what is up with Blake. You would think by day 3, he would be good and hydrated. Maybe he can't take the heat? I remember though it was pretty cool in the jungle with the shade, but the humidity had to be 100%. However, we still wore pants, boots, backpacks, and t-shirts while hiking and were all right. I hope he doesn't have to quit!
Yeah, Margaret is awesome! I don't know what they would have done without her. But next week, it showed that she didn't really know what was up with Blake either. <shrug>
I forgot to post Next Week
One Survivor is appalled when a nest of ants are served up for dinner in a tribe desperate for protein.
Lacking any sympathy for ailing tribemates, one Survivor starts complaining about the weak ones being lazy and getting pampered.
Leading into the second Tribal Council, one Survivor fights back when their work ethic is questioned by tribemates.
I'll post the transcript to Survivor Insider if I can find it.

Wow! I have watched every episode of every season of Survivor, and I think that hike may have been the most brutal physical challenge ever.
I was really scared for Bobby Jon when his eyes kept rolling back in his head. He didn't look good! Thank goodness that tribe has Margaret to help them out with the medical issues, or they would be totally screwed.
I'm not crazy about Survivor bringing back Stephanie and Bobby Jon because (a) I think they should have saved them for another All-Stars edition and (b) it really changes the dynamics of the game right away, having people who've already played and are armed with tips on how to handle things. Not to mention the hero worship with which Stephanie is viewed. It gives her an immediate advantage over the other players.
Interesting that both teams had flint (and thus fire) by the first elimination. Usually there's at least one tribe struggling to get fire for quite a while.
Nakum's going to be in big trouble if their guys don't get healthy. Not only can they not compete, but it'll drag morale down big time. It also polarizes the team into well and not-well players, and that sort of division isn't good to have right off the bat.
Oh, and what do you make of Gary's decision not to tell anyone that he played in the NFL? I was thinking that people probably wouldn't care. They can tell he's strong and dominant without knowing that he used to be an athlete. Maybe he's thinking they'll assume he's wealthy and use that as an excuse to vote him out? I wonder if Gary will be able to stick to his plan or if he'll eventually confide the truth to whomever he allies with.
Favorite player so far: Margaret

:D Hubby was wondering who dressed him in that baby blue shirt! I didn't think it was bad, but hubby was making fun of Jeff pretty bad. :D

I too am excited to see Steph back! She rocks. My question is how long before they find out who Gary really is? I think he is playing it right as long as no one finds out. Because we know that once they find out that he is an ex football pro he is done.
I want the Steph to be the last women standing, and I think she can do it if she keeps her cool and doesn't give out all her secrets.

I think Blake's roblem is dehydration couples with serios pain. His body was really hurt bad by that tree. The pain, which he has to deal with without any meds (and none of us are used to that kind of pain with out meds), has to be excrutiating.
Actually, he does have access to meds. and medics. There's a box near each tribe that contains supplies for the team like contact solution, tampons, and any medications that might be needed by team members. There are also doctors for the players to see, althought they're only supposed to do that in circumstances where they would go to the ER if they were at home.

Really? I didn't know about the box. I knew there were medics, you don't see them on TV, but I remember one season where they said later that the docs would check out the bug bites and keep an eye on them. But the box is interesting...

I never heard about the box either. I guess it would make sense though some of the things that are in the box are day to day items that are hard to go without.

Funny, I've always wondered about how the girls coped with OTR and tampons, guess the box answered my question about that. :)
Maybe it's just me, but do the women have access to a razor during the show (and not just at reward challenges)? When I see back episodes and the girls are all cheering and waving their arms, there is no underarm hair on them. You'd think that after being in the elements for even a week you'd see SOMETHING. Maybe they do have access to shaving items since it would be pretty nasty on the eyes to have the girl players "natural". :o
But maybe I'm just strange for wondering that??

Actually Thursday morning on the early show Jeff was saying that the really tall skinny woman (Danni?) on the other team who is a radio sports show D.J. told him(Gary) "Are you Gary(whatever his last name is) you look just like him?" and he was like "Nah!! I get that all the time I am just a landscapper"

Yay, DH and I are so excited!!! We love Survivor. I'm finally catching on to the fact that my fave shows have threads here. Love the nurse! Without her, Bobby John would have been much much worse.
Can't decide who else I'm rooting for yet. I loved Stephanie last season but I have to agree that they should have saved those two for All Stars.

Jim's Final Words
Jim: Well, I'm not particularly surprised by the outcome of all this, given the difficulty of this game and you know an older guy, if you got an older guy operating at 50% in the challenges are absolutely enormous. I don't blame the guys for voting me out, all I really want to say is I wish them good luck and I hope nobody gets hurt.
Well, it was something that I guess I didn't fully believe when they talked about the difficulty of this whole thing and it really came to fruition. It's just that I was able to, and I think I had some help in doing this, but you know to take that many people through a difficult jungle situation for 24 hours and over 11 miles I think it's a credit to me and certainly a credit to the kids but I think I did well for what I had to work with.
Well, I learned that I'm probably not as strong as I thought I was, compared to these challenges, you know everyone has, maybe overestimates their abilities and as we get older, you know, mother nature turning down those thumb screws on us every day, sometimes we don't like to admit that, but this kind of brings it all out. It's realistic.
Well, I knew that I had strengths in, you know, people management, group dynamics, being able to work with people in a democratic kind of way. Weaknesses? Eh, it's the half (???) thing, the body's starting to fall apart, you know running 12 miles a day doesn't compare to this, on a flat mountain road, is nothing like this. So, weaknesses? They came out.
I'm proud of what I did at my age. I like to motivate people my age to do things, not necessarily this, but, you know, get off your couch, quit bitching into a coffee cup about some political issue and do something for yourself.
Challenges... I didn't fully, I don't think anybody, any of the survivors fully realized, you know, how tough this, and it's not just the toughness of the evolution that you're expected to do, but to compete under the circumstances of the humidity and the heat and the beating sun and, really, the lack of resources that you have is, it's really grueling.
I have no regrets. I'd do it again in a minute if everything was healed up, but that's probably not gonna happen, I did it once, and it was fun and something I'm never ever gonna forget.
Jim, The Day After
Well I’m out of the game primarily from an injury that I suffered during the second challenge. It was a challenge of pulling these huge weighty boats up a hill, and you had to row out and go out through these buoys, pick up a torch. For four or five revolutions it had to be boom boom boom. But on picking up that canoe, first thing off the beach, picked it up a split second before anyone else did with this left arm and I could just hear it snap. It snapped and went right on through the rest of the challenge. But you know, you’re operating at 50% and you know darn well you just are holding everybody back when you’re like that.
(Cut)
Well when I was originally injured we started back home, I’m tearing up, everybody’s tearing up. We lost for a reason. It wasn’t just something that fell out of the sky. Just like Probst said. It was something we did. Some faux pas we made. Some tactical error that we made. My estimation it was not going on the outside of those buoys, not going on the outside. We were trying to hit the center. Who cares about the center? I was against it, everyone was for it, I said, “Okay we’ll do what you want to do.”
The point is, when we got back to our tribal area, I knew that probably I’m going to drag these kids down. I knew when this thing snapped, I said, “I am screwed.” I’m not going to screw these guys along with me. I want to see them do well. If they can do better without me, fine. I’m not going to have these kids waiting on me, having them running challenges with me, sit on my butt. That’s not me. That’s not in my character. And I talked to them. Each and every one I pulled aside. I said, “You do what you got to do.” And it was tough. It was very tough.
(Cut)
Now the guys got sick. For whatever reason, I don’t know. The girls – they were relentless. And I was so proud of them. And I’m puking myself. Myself and some of the other guys have perceived themselves as being tough. That bug somehow got into us. What happened? Beats me.
(Cut)
Yeah, I think had I continued they would have perceived me as a father figure. Not so much father, but an uncle kind of guy that’s going to help take care of them. Hopefully in that short time I was on - I did get them out of the jungle. I did help them spend the night safely in the jungle and got them back out. And ended up winning that challenge. So it was big for them and I think they appreciated that.
(Cut)
I think overall my Survivor experience was not really what I expected. I knew it was going to be tough. I knew it was going to be grueling. But I didn’t expect the conditions – the humidity, the heat. Just the toughness and the intensity of that long trek specifically. It was stifling.
Well the way I’m feeling is today, to put it in a couple of words is somebody’s got to go first. But it’s still bittersweet. You get – you leave that game that you worked so hard to get in. You’ve come all those miles. It seems like it went quick. It seems like it was long and grueling – you think like you’ve been out there a week. So like I said, it is bittersweet. I wish I could have gone farther, but injuries happen. It would have happened to anybody.
Bobby Jon’s Scared
Description: How tough does Bobby Jon think he really is? Find out as he describes the difficulties of surviving the Guatemalan environment.
Bobby Jon (Confessional): I’m feeling like I just got through having a seizure. I’ve never had one, but if you’ve ever had a seizure, I had one up there a little while ago. I didn’t, but it was just severely, severely dehydration. I’ve heard people talk about it before but I think I’m a badass and that kind of thing never happens to me. And it did, and it whipped me like a little girl, a little boy, whatever you want to call it. Just right in front of everybody. Just go ahead, day 2, and show them my weakness. I was really mad at myself. I really couldn’t move. When I say I couldn’t move, I mean, I was that far from biting my tongue. I didn’t know what was going on.
(Cut)
I was very surprised with the conditions that I’m in right now. For me, I just never thought that type of thing would ever happen to me, and it did. And it hit me head on. It’s still going on some now, but we have a lot of water up there, and luckily the girls have been pulling more than their weight. Brandon’s definitely been pulling his weight, and so has Jim. So knock on wood. Those guys are really carrying the tribe right now. I’m still hanging in there.
(Cut)
This thing is – it’s a nightmare, sort of (laughs). It really is. I didn’t plan on it being like this. I think that on Day 1, I was like, okay, go go go go go go as hard as you can. And that’s what I did. I carried two bags of corn all day yesterday and I got up this morning and I was feeling it.
(Cut)
Right now I’m feeling pretty exhausted. Pretty winded. And I know if I’m going to contribute to this team that I’d better tighten up quick or I’ll be home. That’s it.
Stephanie is Positive
Stephenie (Confessional): I think the difference between Ulong and Yaxha is we lost today but we gave it everything we had, and we still lost. So there's always a winner and a loser, and our time will come, and we will win. And our heads are still up, and we're still really positive, and we're so excited to still play this game, and come out you know as a winning tribe. Whereas you know when I was on Ulong, people were like, oh well, no big deal. It's totally different this time.
(cut)
I'm going to be honest, I don't blame anybody for losing this race. Gary and I decided to take the direction into our own hands in the beginning, and it took us a little while to get it down, and then we had it downpat. And then when we caught up to them, there were a couple people who were slow. So it was kind of a team thing. And we were handing the compasses off, it wasn't just us leading the whole time. So I'm not going to blame just one person. I'm not. I mean, there's clearly, there's people who are more physically fit then others, who can run with bags of corn, 30 pounds, and who can't.
And we're just going to have to work with that, and if that doesn't work, then we may eventually have to start getting rid of the weakest first obviously.
(cut)
I think possibly the weakest is a cross between Amy and Lydia. And I think the laziest is Jamie. I just think his head's not in it. I don't know.

Thirsty And Tired
Description: Check out never before seen footage of life at camp as the Yaxha tribe struggles in their new home.
? female: Our priorities are fire, boiling water.
Cindy: I’ll do the fire.
? female: I’m ready to
Brandon: ???
? female: Want to wash the dishes?
? female: Yeah
(Margaret examining Blake’s back)
Blake: Ow!
Margaret: Oh, sorry. I’m just going to pull it.
Cindy: It’s a fricken big one.
Margaret: It’s going to fester its way out.
Cindy: Oh!
Margaret: Just leave it. Let’s get some clean water. You okay?
Blake: Yeah.
Brooke: We should take everybody’s clothes down and rinse out like all the fruit that got on people’s stuff.
? Guy: Yeah, I guess we can do that.
Brooke: All right ya’ll!
Danni: We’re going to get water too and bring it back up here.
(Shots of guys going out holding something?)
Margaret (Confessional): We won the challenge so we got the better camp, which is great.
(Danni, Brooke, Brandon and ? are walking in the jungle)
? male: You two should be carrying this, and we should get the jugs, man.
Brandon: What the hell’s that one?
Margaret (Confessional): But at that point, Blake, he was nauseated and in a lot of pain.
Blake: (Grimacing, to Danni) My whole body’s just vibrating right now.
Danni: Just stay here, okay? Just rest.
Judd: Why don’t you just sit there for a little bit –
Blake: (Vomits) Oh god.
Margaret (Confessional): The combination of going through the jungle yesterday and trying to get here today dehydrated so many of us.
Cindy: They’re going to bring water back.
Blake: Aw shit. Ahh. Ahh.
Cindy: Where’s the blanket? Let’s put the blanket on him.
Margaret (Confessional in a different location): Blake got hit on the shoulder, and the combination of the pain and desperation –
? female: Just breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Margaret (Confessional) Blake is so dehydrated that he’s cramped up. We’ve been drinking water, but it’s just not enough water. I’ve been a trauma nurse for a lot of years. Now I’m a nurse practitioner.
Margaret: (By Blake) Right up my alley! If we get some fluid in us, we should be okay. I think they’re doing pretty well back at camp with fire.
(Shots of guys working on fire)
Jim: Dammit.
Brandon: (Filling pot with water and handing it to Judd) Got it?
Judd: (Grunting) Oh yeah! (He drops the pot) The pot just broke.
Brandon: Aw man! That sucks, man!
(Danni and Brooke walking back)
Brooke: Hey Judd, Brandon.
Judd: The pot just broke. Cheaply made, man.
Danni: Oh…
Brandon: The whole bottom!
(Margaret helping Blake up)
Margaret: One, two, three. Walk slow.
Judd: What’s up with him, man?
Brandon: Yeah, how is he? Is he ? or what?
Judd: I mean, I’m 240 pounds and I carry my own damn weight, man.
? female: Well he –
Judd: I mean, he’s a nice guy and all –
? female: He was tired in the boat, remember?
Judd: Yeah, but still –
? female: And he – on his shoulder -
Judd: Listen, I’m not knocking the guy by any means. I’m just saying – I hope he doesn’t get sick every day.
(Margaret and Blake in jungle joined by Brooke and Brandon, who give Blake a wet buff to put on his neck)
Brandon: How you doin’ man?
Brooke: Better?
Judd (Confessional): I did the wash, I hung out by the water. Everybody had a little chore to do, but the dehydration is just kicking in. I know tomorrow’s going to be a big day, so hell, I want to rest up.
(Guys making fire)
? female: Put sticks on it.
Guys: Yeah.
Jim Reveals All
Jim (Confessional): Well we lost the immunity challenge, probably for a couple of reasons, if uh, you looked at what we did when we went after the torch, we got a little bit messed up on the turn, and it cost seconds in that, in that critical time, it...now we got up on the beach, and made a couple of blunders, uh I got ran over, you know, and then from the very get-go I heard my arm, putting the canoe in the water, so I'm like 50% it's those little things, those little nuances, that's what'll kill ya.
(Cut)
The whole problem happened initially when we were putting that boat in the water. I picked up, I thought everybody we were all on cue, I picked up before everybody else did with my left, and my bicep just literally snapped, you could hear it snap. So I pretty much did the entire challenge, from the very get-go, with you know, a pulled bicep muscle. Coupled with the things that happened, uh, the glitches that happened, you know. But the thing spasmed the whole time, so I was in pain and it's still spasming.
(Cut)
This challenge, is everything. It's your whole lifeblood in this game. When you go to tribal council, and you've lost, you didn't win that immunity idol, and you've lost, somebody is going to go home. One of your tribe is going to go home, while the other tribe sits in camp, and let's face it, they gloat. It doesn't take much because these teams are evenly matched. You know, that's just the way it is.
Bake Talks Back
Clip Description: Blake reveals the combination of reasons why his shoulder has been in pain.
Blake (Confessional): I think with our group so far, there's been some maternal leadership from Margaret, just because she's a nurse, and she is older than most of our mothers, but a strong woman. And obviously Bobby Jon because you know the position he's held in the past. I think the rest of us have all kind of had our own perspective and nobody's really stepped forward.
We hit that 1.2 miles in the jungle and that was hands down the most gruelling part. Travelling with our flag was so intense, just trying to get it through every vine.
(cut)
We were walking through maybe the first .12 miles of the journey through the jungle, heading up a hill. I was middle of the group, Jim kind of walked around a tree, and everyone pointed out that it had thorns on it. Somehow the base snapped and this entire tree fell. I guess I'm kind of lucky it didn't hit me in the face or the top of the head and embed me with giant thorns. I've had surgery on the shoulder in the past, and I was favoring it the day or two before I came here. I wasn't looking forward to hauling that load.
All of a sudden, this branch collapses, and it didn't just deflect off me, it snapped over my shoulder. And you know three or four thorns went in. Margaret started pulling them out, there's still a few stuck in there I can't get out. It slowed me down, it was startling enough that it took my breath away. It kind of put that fear in me, because the one thing I was afraid of here was that. I dont't want to come in here with a shoulder injury and reirritate it and all of a sudden not be able to compete. It was numb for a good while, and it jammed me up pretty good. There was a throbbing sensation from the needles in there, cause they went in so deep. I mean, we all brushed them, I've got scrapes and stuff all over my body from just catching the thorns. But these got shoved all the way in there, I mean, Margaret couldn't even get them out today. Probably going to have to take tweezers to get them out. Not only that, but it just knocked my shoulder down. My problem in the past has been it displacing out the back, and it got hit right there. Again, I've got to favor it for awhile, carry water bottles on my right shoulder, throw everything around my neck.
That was the least of our problems, once I started getting sick. That kind of took it to a whole new level.

Tribal Council Votes

Hopefully the irations in the (inaudible) (something about his bicep). I think that our team is strong enough that we have a real chance every single event, I think that today (inaudible). As great a man as you are as hurt as you were you wouldn't say anything about it. We're all gonna miss you.
DANNI (Votes JIM): Man, why did ya have to go get yourself hurt? You're the wisest one of the bunch and you're one tough dude. If it wasn't for you, there's know way we'd be in the place we're at now, at our camp.
BOBBY JON (Votes JIM): Jim, you've got a lot of heart, a lot of character, and a ton of perseverance. You're more of what the world needs to be. Hope you're arm gets better.
BROOKE (Votes JIM): Jim, thanks for helping us through the jungle, and I know you're a fighter and I know you don't want to quit, but I have to make this vote thinking of the team for the long term.
BRANDON (Votes JIM): I'm sorry, Jim, I can see in your eyes how much you wanted this, and, uh, you're one of the toughest guys I've ever met. So, I'll uh...I'll talk to you later.
MARGARET (Votes JIM): Jim, you're a great fellow, and a great player, and you gave so much to our team. I know you understand exactly why we're doing this, so thank you for everything, God bless and good health, okay?
JUDD (nervous) (Votes JIM): Jim, you're one of the toughest dudes I met.
CINDY (Votes JIM): Tonight ma vote's for Jim, we kinda talked about this before. We left to come here tonight, and we all understand why. I just hope that you get better so you can enjoy all the adventures that life has in store for you. Get better, and thanks for leading us in the jungle.
JIM (sighs) (Votes MARGARET): Margaret, I love you like a sister. You're a tough competitor, you're intelligent, you're a wonderful leader. If I could have stayed in this game, I know you would have been my greatest competition. I love ya.

I seriously cannot believe Blake was able to compete like he did during the reward challenge! He looked like he was at death's door before it and when he went tearing through that rope spider web not once, but twice, I was shocked! Of course, I'm thinking Judd had a point when he said that if a player does nothing at camp all day but rest, then of course they will have a burst of energy for the challenges. I'm glad Judd had the chance to be the "tribe hero" like he wanted during the immunity challenge. :D BTW...was anyone else puzzled by the fact that we barely saw Bobby Jon at all last night? I kept looking for him and didn't see him.
Morgan so did not see her elimination coming! The look on her face was priceless! I was rather happy to see Lydia stay in the game; she is a far more productive member of their tribe than Morgan was.
I really sucked on my points for Survivor fantasy. :( I need some help with that. Why is it we only select one tribe member for immunity and reward when the whole team wins it? What is the "safe" pick exactly? I'm pretty lost, can anyone give me some pointers?

Are you doing the CC Ladies one? If so, this is my take on your questions:
When you click on one member of the tribe for reward/immunity, the whole team lights up. I usually just pick the first person in that tribe and it will light up the whole tribe. For the "safe" pick, my understanding is that this is someone who will go to tribal council but not get voted out. I don't think you can pick the same person each week b/c my pick from last week had an "X" in it already and wouldn't let me repick that person. I'm not doing so hot myself, but only because I totally missed Morgan going this week.
If you aren't doing the CC Ladies, disregard all of the above. :D
PS: I am starting to think that Blake is faking. It's amazing someone can do so well in a challenge that stresses both your upper and lower body, do so well that you do it TWICE for your team, but you can't tend to the fire or get wood. I think as long as Margaret babies him, he'll play this card. Everyone else, with the slight exception of BJ, looks like they're doing much better. I also read that the tree that hit him isn't that poisonous (like a bee sting) and using the bark of the tree on the wound will actually help heal it (it's called a Give and Take tree.)

Thanks tbell!! I am doing the CC Ladies one and appreciate your help!
Hmm...Blake faking it? I never even considered this possibility, but now that I have, it has the strong scent of truth to it. One other thing: does anyone else think that Gary did the wrong thing by lying when asked by his tribe if he was a former NFL player?? I really think he should have told the truth and be done with it. A lie like that could definitely bite him in the butt later in the game!

I agree that Blake could be faking. Or at least exagerating quite a bit.
Liking the season a lot so far, just hoping that Stephs team can pull back together and win some more.

I don't think Blake is faking it. I just think he's been less able to adapt to the 120-degree heat than some of the other players. The shortness of breath could definitely be due to heat stroke or something similar. But when he HAS to turn it on, like in a challenge, he does.
Gary has just completely shot himself in the foot. It was one thing to say he was a landscaper, because technically he IS.... now. But when confronted by people who've learned about your past, you should just admit it. Now, he's going to be a liar, and they'll feel betrayed and wonder what else he's hiding. This'll be his downfall, I'm sure of it.
I'm glad Morgan is gone, too. She really didn't contribute enough to the team.
Alliances... are we starting to see the beginning of one between Judd and Brandon? Their discussion about Blake last night was rather telling. And I do think Judd is being portrayed as a bit of a hero/leader. I wonder how the Nakum women will align, though. It'd be easy for them to vote as a bloc.
Good show!

Yeah, what was up with Blake last night. When they showed him panting like a dog, I thought, oh, man, there is no way he can do a challenge. Then when they explained the challenge, I thought he'd start the challenge and then drop out and let the others cover for him. But to do it twice??? I think what's going on is when he thinks about it, he panics himself into feeling sick. But when he has to, he powers on.
Oh, yeah, Gary totally screwed himself over. He was asked point-blank if he was a former NFL player and he out-right lied. That will bite him in the butt. Plus, if there was any doubt, he TACKLED that guy in the tug-o-war. Did you see Steph's face when Danni said that he played for the NFL??

Gary should have come clean when confronted. I could see his point in not wanting to let people know who he was ... but why blatently lie about it.
How did Raffe (sp) escape the vote? Or at least a mention to get a vote? He SUCKED at the reward challenge and couldn't even get up the ladder!!!

dh is convinced blake got poisoned when that branch fell on him (last week's episode)....i barely watched so not sure what went on.
gary definitely wont last.....there was no need to lie about being in the NFL....i'm not understanding why he would lie?

Gary is afraid that his team players will think he is super-rich from playing as a quarterback in the NFL. He doesn't want to be voted off on the basis that he already has lots of money.

thanks jimmysgirl......i guess it doesnt make sense since stephanie and bobby jon are back and they have to have money from publicity and such and surely there would be an incentive for them to come back...anyways just thinking aloud!

Well, that was interesting.
Regarding Gary, I was really intrigued by how the team members came to *think* he was in the NFL. I mean, Danni yelled from the sidelines, but she was also talking to Jamie while they were in the mud and telling him that he had an NFL quarterback on his team, like it was some sort of secret. I thought that was really interesting. I wonder if he will eventually get busted or if he will continue to lie and no one will be the wiser?
Regarding Blake, I was shocked to see him kick butt in that challenge. What the heck?!? He could barely breathe earlier. Weird, weird, weird. In the same regard, I definitely don't think he is faking it either. Anyone knows that if you don't work around camp, you are pretty much a goner, so why fake something to get out of work? I don't think he is going to make it very far.
I'm glad they decided to vote Morgan instead of Lydia. I mean, c'mon, Lydia caught you minnows and you want to vote her out? She did well at the challenge too. And does anyone else think Morgan is just weird looking? Or is it just me? ;)
I can't believe that Rafe escaped the vote either. I thought for sure he was going to be on the chopping block after sucking so bad at the rope challenge. Whew, though, b/c for some reason, I picked him as my MVP!

I also read that the tree that hit him isn't that poisonous (like a bee sting) and using the bark of the tree on the wound will actually help heal it (it's called a Give and Take tree.)
I posted about the tree a few pages back. Our guides (in the jungle in Belize) didn't tell us that it was poisonous, just that the thorns are very very painful and that you could use the inside of the tree to take away the pain. But as part of Survivor Insider, they show that the thorns went very deep into his shoulder and they couldn't get all of them out, so some of them are still in there and will have to fester out. Also, Blake had already hurt that shoulder previously and was trying to "baby it," so that is not helping.

NEXT WEEK
Smoldering heat forces some Survivors to cool off in the water, risking an encounter with crocodiles.
As a tribe attempts to rebuild their shelter, one member takes matters into their own hands and irritates the others.
Causing sleepless nights, an inconsiderate howler monkey drives one castaway crazy. those things are LOUD
A termite-infested log becomes a delicacy for some castaways desperate for a change in their diet.
THE VOTES
Brian (Votes Morgan): First vote for Yaxha! Morgan, I’m voting for you because I overheard you telling Jaime that he can’t trust me. And don’t you dare try to mess with my fishmonger! Nobody messes with my Lydia! I hope that this works. It was kind of last minute.
Morgan (Votes Lydia): Um, believe it or not Lydia, this is going to be one of the hardest decisions that I make while I’m out here. You are a fierce competitor. You’re a really hard worker and you can do anything you put your mind to. But I made a promise and I’m keeping my word.
Gary (Votes Morgan): Morgan, you’re a great girl. I think you did great in the challenges. This is all about camp life. You’re not working and contributing to our team in the camp. Had to vote for somebody.
Brianna (Votes Morgan): Morgan, you’re a sweet girl. I truly did trust you. But you didn’t really trust me.
Jaime (Votes Morgan): I told you I was going to do anything I could to save my girl Lydia. I’m sorry you couldn’t listen and vote for Brianna.
Lydia (Votes Morgan): This was not my choice. But now I know what you mean when you told me, “What would you do if you were placed in this position when someone had asked you?”
Amy (Votes Morgan): I’m voting for Morgan. Baby girl, literally this was a last minute team decision. Good luck.
Stephenie (Votes Morgan): Morgan, you did awesome out here girl. That’s nothing against you. It’s just all part of the game and I’m going with the numbers. It helps my strategy. See you on the outside.
Rafe (Votes Morgan): If someone told me on the first day that I would be voting for you now ???, I would have called them an absolute liar. You better believe that I’m going to win this thing for you. I love you. (Kisses the paper)

If you listen to what he's said so far, he hasn't actually lied...he's just said he's a landscaper, which apparently he is now. No one has asked him yet what he did before. And when he was said "Yeah I get that alot" about looking like a former NFL player, that's probably true to. I bet a lot of people tell him he looks like one, since he is. So it's creative truism... and that's not too uncommon in Survivor....No one really gets away with no lies...His just started sooner, if you want to call them lies... :)

Actually, if I remember correctly, Gary did lie in last weeks episode. One of his fellow tribe members asked him point blank if he was an ex NFL player and Gary said "No." The other team member (i don't remember his name) then preceeded to say a girl from the other tribe told him during the tug of war challange that Gary was a quarterback.

That's exactly what happened! I was okay with Gary not mentioning what he did in the past; nobody really needed to know. But, when directly asked about it by a member of his own tribe; he flat-out lied and said no! Not a good call at all on his part and I think that it will be his un-doing on his tribe. How can they trust him to be a team player when he is already lying?

But they don't know he's lying. Who knows, Danni from the other tribe could just be mistaken or playing them. They don't know. What will be interesting is if Gary and Danni both make the merge. Then we can see a direct interaction between them and see how Gary wiggles his way out of that one. I don't know if that will happen though.
That Danni girl is so skinny! You can see her hip bones. I often wonder why they don't put on at least 5 lbs before going out there knowing they are going to be starving.

That's true, they don't know that he's lying. But....he didn't sound very convincing at all to me when he denied it to his fellow tribemates. I thought you could hear it in his voice that he was lying. But...that's just me. ;) Can't wait to see how this all pans out.

Ah, that's right. I forgot about that one....Okay, you win! But I still stand behind the "everyone lies" statement, so I don't worry about it! I think it woud be cool if he won because of it!! But then again, I'm weird like that!!
Looking forward to tonight to see what happens....

I agree! After I finished typing that post; I kinda thought to myself: "Well, I don't think a person has ever played Survivor without lying at least one time". Besides, compared to Johnny Fairplay lying about his grandmother dying; Gary's lie is pretty small potatoes. And, I will give him the benefit of the fact that he probably still believes it is in his best interests not to admit it to anyone. In any case; this is gonna be good!! :)

Hey, where is everyone? Doesn't anyone have any thoughts on last night's show?? I was very sad to see Yaxha lose and go back to tribal council. I think they did the right thing voting out Brianna though...what in the heck was she thinking just leaning against the pole during the immunity challenge? She could have at least got in there and fought for the ball!! Lydia wasn't much better; but at least she put forth the effort. Nevertheless;I can definitely see her going next whenever they go back to tribal. She just doesn't have any athletic abilities; which the whole tribe knows is absoutely crucial. I really, really hope that Steph isn't going to end up on the losing tribe again! What a bummer that would be.

See ya Brianna!

Hello Miss Priss. Wow, I would have sent her packing too. I loved how Jamie was yelling at her during the immunity challenge to move. What was she doing just standing there? I mean, I know it's hot, but I would probably half kill myself doing everything I could to win immunity. Then at Tribal Council, to say that she tried her best? Oh dear. I would have had a hard time not saying anything to her then. Ugh.
I thought that Yaxha was going to win this immunity so I was bummed to see Nakum win instead. (plus it messes up my fantasy survivor points)! But next week, the tribes are going to get shuffled so maybe that will help Steph get back on a tribe that can win. Who knows? It'll be interesting to see how the shuffle ends up this time.
I so feel Judd's pain with that howler monkey. You can hear those things for miles, they are so loud.
Some trouble in paradise with Margaret? I must admit that Bobby Jon ticked me off when he was saying that Margaret was nerve racking, blah blah blah. I wanted to reach in the tv and slap him to remind him that she saved his sorry butt in the beginning when he almost went into a seizure. How about a little gratitude? I mean, I know it's a game but still. That's your health and she helped keep him in the game. Jerk. I still can't figure out why they picked him to come back anyway.
This season just doesn't seem as exciting as previous seasons. I don't think any of the players are that interesting or are sticking out that much for me. I guess we'll see if that changes over time.
Oh my, Danni is so skinny. Seriously, I think she looks sickly. What is she going to look like in 30 days with a serious lack of food (that is, if she makes it that long)? She kind of creeps me out.
NEXT WEEK
In an unexpected twist, members of the two tribes are shuffled.
While one Survivor dangles his feet in the crocodile-infested waters, something nibbles on his toes.
A very close Immunity Challenge leads into a tense Tribal Council that could end with a tie or a major betrayal.

I was annoyed by this too! I kind of liked Bobby Jon last season, but this season he's a whiny & annoying. I hope he doesn't orchestrate booting Margaret off the tribe the next time they go to tribal council!
Ooohh, so they're swapping people between the tribes next week? I didn't know that...cool. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something works to Stephanie's benefit because I SO want to see her be on a strong tribe for once!
Brianna definitely was worthless in that immunity challenge & needed to go.
BTW, Brianna went to the same elementary school & high school I did, apparently! She's like 10 years younger than me, though. :p
