I've never organized one of these before, but I know that many of the other geographic groups have met up, and it's always sounded like fun.
Is anyone interested in meeting up for drinks or dinner one night after work?
I'd be happy to arrange things.

Could be a lot of fun. Any ideas yet?
Karen
i have always been jealous when i see that the other girls from other geographic zones get together. hopefully, i will be able to once it is planned.
hmmm...it will be funny meeting people off the internet that are not dates. not that i do that anymore, but when i was single i did internet dating.

So glad you guys are interested. :) I was thinking something lowkey, maybe in midtown or the village, since both places are accessible to most train lines. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think Manhattan is a good idea. What kind of place are we looking for -- bar or restaurant?
Is anyone interested in getting together on a weekend? I work weeknights, so if it is a weeknight, I'll probably miss out on all the fun! :(

I am interested but I don't know if I would get into manhattan-it all depends on when and where but since i am not too familiar with NYC I would proably be more interested if there is ever one in NJ area...but I am subscribing just in case...you never know what my schedule could be like and I would love to meet up with some others-just not sure if I would be able to swing it or not.
thanks for trying to organize this Kris!!

Count me in!:D
Anyone have any ideas on where we should meet?
i'm guessing somewhere in manhattan would be a central location for all since it's in between jersey, westchester, the outer bouroughs, and long island. also, i think a fair amount of us work there, as well.

I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but how about everyone interested answer two questions:
1. Would you rather a weekday evening or the weekend?
2. Would you rather meet in midtown, the Village, or some other place in Manhattan?
1. I'd prefer a weeknight since I live in the suburbs, but if enough people want to go for a weekend, I can probably make it. It would probably have to be September, since I bet alot of people are going to be away Labor Day weekend (I'm away the weekend of the 26th, and I'd really like to go since I'm an organizer... :) )
2. I'm fine with either Midtown (but NOT a tourist trap - just a lowkey place where people who can't drink can get something to eat) or the Village. I think those places are closest to the most subway/train lines.
So what do you guys think?

I'm ok with anything. My only prob is that I'll be in school til 7:30pm Mon-Thurs. If something were to be scheduled around 8pm, I'll be available.
same thing as catch, i will be in school till late monday - thursday. though, plan when most people are available. it doesn't have to revolve around my schedule. :) weekend afternoons are good for me though, i understand how it would be a hassle for you kris to come in again to the city plus a lot of people have a lot of other things to do on a w/e. as i said before, pretty much anywhere in manhattan is good for me. the village sounds good, kris.
The Village sounds good to me too. I'm available weekdays after 7:30pm.

Count me in! Midtown is better than The Village for me, since I am in a wheelchair, though. :(

Either the Village or Midtown works for me, and either weeknights (preferably after 8pm) or weekends. I'll be out of town for the first two weeks of September, though!

Weekends or Weeknights (after 11pm!)
Midtown (ideal) or Village (just fine)

Hi! I'm subscribing too. I live in Hudson Co and work in Westchester. My big inpass is my energy lately, I'm still in my first trimester and feel utterly zapped of all energy.

Would love to join in.
I live in Jersey but work in Manhattan.
Since I have a DD, a little prior notice and I should be able to arrange a night out for myself.

Anywhere in Manhattan works for me. After work would be the best.

Sorry! I've been meaning to update this, but work has just been insane. Since I think most people prefer after work, during the week, at like 8pm: how does Tuesday 9/27 or Wed 9/28 sound?
Sounds great to me. Where are we going to meet? Thanks for organizing this! :)

Wednesday is better, since I volunteer on Tuesdays.
wednesday is better bc i get out of class a little earlier on that evening. though, i could make it on tuesday, but i would just be a bit late.
just a thought. this might sound paranoid, but i was thinking that perhaps you should personally email the name of the place and more specific deets just in case some weirdo is looking at this. now, i look like i am crazy. :D

I'm happy to PM people to preserve privacy.
Next question:
Bar or restaurant?
I prefer restaurant, just because I really don't drink. :) Do people want to PM me suggestions or trust me to pick something out?
Good thinking Rebekah on the privacy issues!
i trust you to pick something out. i really don't mind either, but i don't know if i'd be up for eating a dinner then (main thing is that i am el cheapo now bc of being in school, so now i have outed myself as being paranoid and cheap. i am sure you ladies are all really excited to meet me now. ;) ), so i guess a place that doesn't really care if you only order a salad or appetizer as opposed to a maincourse. like you, kris, i don't drink much. i am a one drink kinda girl.

Either day will work for me. What about a tappas place, that way food and alcohol levels can be adjusted easily?

Ooh, what about that Tapas place in Chelsea (El Cid, I think it's called?) . . .

09-19-2005, 01:42 PM
I'm happy to look into it, but if we want some privacy, I'm going to have to announce the final details by private message.
So, how about this: Wednesday, 9/28/05 at 8:00 pm seems to be the best day for everyone. If you are able to make it, and want to be notified of the place, please PM me. Also, if you have any suggestions, please let me know. After I make some calls (to see if they'll take reservations), I'll PM you back to let you know the secret bat-details. :)
Looking forward to meeting you guys. :)

I am really hopig I can make it but can't guarantee as it depends on work I only know day by day but please PM me anyway if that is ok. :)
Hey! My Mom is coming into town on Wednesday. Darn! I really wanted to meet all of you! I hope everyone has a great time and count me in next time!

We have a time and place! The time is 9/28/05 at 8pm, and the place has been PM'd to everyone who indicated interest. If anyone else is interested, please let me know, I'm happy to send you the details.
I'll post here on Wednesday what color I will be wearing. Looking forward to see you guys. :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it tonight! Just to help us find each other - I'm short, have long dark hair, and am wearing a white button down shirt today. (Is it strange that I feel like I'm going on a group blind date?....) :)

I'm also hoping someone took pics. I got stuck at work until 9 (my boss decided that 7pm is a great time to start a meeting). May be we can have another one for all the people who missed yesterday.

I'm sorry you guys couldn't make it - it turned out to be a small group (thompso2, catch, and me) but I had a really good time. The place was great, too - I'd definitely recommend it for tapas. I didn't have a camera with me, so no pictures, but I'm certainly up for another gtg for those who weren't able to make it.
