The porta potty thread inspired this one ;)

Where you live, are there toilet seat covers in most places?

I ask because since we've moved to Wyoming, I haven't seen them at all. When I lived in California, they were in every bathroom I ever went in but here in Wy they don't exist. For some reason I thought it was some sort of law that they had to be provided, but I guess not. Pretty gross....

Yes

If they don't provide, I line with TP

Yea I just put TP down as well but it seems like a waste of TP. I wish they'd just provide the covers, darnit

Mostly here as well. Then again, unless the toilet seat looks wet or it's a pretty nasty bathroom, I don't use them anyway.

I don't really notice because I don't look for them. I hover. :)

I'm in WI and I rarely, if ever, see toilet seat covers. I've just put a little TP over the "hole" in the front of the toilet seat since that's nearest the most sensitive area. The rest I don't care too much about.

Got another good question...

Other than lice (or so I've been told) what can you catch from toilet seats? Anyone know?

I don't know but here are a few things that are considered worse/dirtier than your average public toilet seat:

-Handset and buttons on a touchtone phone
-Keyboard on an office computer
-Cellphone
-Public Door handles

(I guess because they can't/won't always be cleaned appropriately and therefore harbors germs and bacteria)

Ugh. There was a news story on the other night about how filthy keyboards are. I'm so glad I have a laptop cause I'm never using the computers at school again.

They seem to be readily available where I live but I rarely use them.

As far as catching anything from a toilet seat: (http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/what-can-you-catch-in-restrooms)

...the toilet seat is not a common vehicle for transmitting infections to humans. Many disease-causing organisms can survive for only a short time on the surface of the seat, and for an infection to occur, the germs would have to be transferred from the toilet seat to your urethral or genital tract, or through a cut or sore on the buttocks or thighs, which is possible but very unlikely.
"To my knowledge, no one has ever acquired an STD on the toilet seat -- unless they were having sex on the toilet seat!" says Abigail Salyers, PhD, president of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).

So just don't rub your genitals all over the seat and you should be fine. ;)

Awwww thanks!!! For some reason someone told me you could catch public lice from them... Well then I guess I'm not going to worry about putting TP down unless they is liquid on it...

Save some of that TP ;)

Beware of the sinks though:

Studies at the University of Arizona in Tucson found that sinks are the greatest reservoir of germ colonies in restrooms, thanks in part to accumulations of water that become breeding grounds for tiny organisms.

Though 95% of men and women claim that they wash after using a public toilet, observations made by researchers discovered that only 67% actually do.
Just make sure to wash your hands really well and you should be fine!

Add the bottom of your purse to that. I saw a story on that last week and it was Gah-ross! People were stopped on the street and asked if their purses and handbags could be tested for bacteria and some of the stuff they found "hidden" was amazingly disgusting.

To answer the question, I never really pay attention b/c I hover too.
