I hope everyone had a great mother's day!
Happy Belated Birthdays to: Aidan, Nikki, James and anyone else I might have missed!
Happy Birthday Today to Annalie and Brynn
kim I'm so glad to hear the surgery went well. Also I can't believe your little lady is ONE!
christy don't feel bad about PTing, my DD is not interested either. Don't beat yourself up, it will happen eventually (at least that's what I tell myself)!
b'day gifts we got her the Melissa & Doug mailbox and some other misc. stuff. She also got a Melissa & Doug bead set, which she loves. Lots of art supplies. A purse with cell phone/keys. I'd like to get her a bike helmet and maybe a 3 wheeled scooter, even though her b'day was weeks ago. She got plenty of stuff from family/friends that she really doesn't need anything more but I feel bad that we didn't get her anything "big".

PTing: Not going so well here, either. I'm going to start pulling my hair out soon.
ETA: Thanks for the new thread! :D

Big Kids?? When the heck did *that* happen!! ;)
PTing - Going surprisingly well here (sorry everyone having troubles!). She hasn't worn a diaper or pull-up, including overnight, for three days now. I don't think of her as fully trained yet though since I still have to remind her (or make her try!!) to go potty all the time; she won't go for anyone but DH and I and she hasn't gone potty anywhere other than at home; plus she can't get her pants back up by herself either.

My goodness! I can't believe we are in a big kid thread now. Who gave our kids permission to go grow up on us???
portlandbride
05-12-2008, 09:33 PM
Thanks for the new thread.
And thanks for the birthday wishes for Brynn. I'm not around too much any more as I recently started my own business, I'm running around after two kids and I'm pregnant with #3:eek:
Birthday gifts She got a princess bike, a princess bike helmet, princess sheets, princess dress-up clothes, princess stickers (do you see a theme?!?), Memory, Candyland, a bubble mower and a T-ball set. Oh, and this huge airplane teeter-totter from Costco. These gifts were from us and the rest of our family, not just us!:)
Anyway, I'll try to keep up a little better. Happy Birthday to all of the kiddos that have turned 3!

I'm in denial that I'll have a 3-yr old soon. I can't believe it! Wasn't it the other day that we were a pregnancy group???
Congrats to portlandbride!
PTing - Brody is now in underwear, and does really well at school with #1. #2 is a whole 'nother story. We can't get him to sit on the potty for that. And at home, trying to get him to sit on the potty during the day makes him get very upset (no problem first thing in the morning and at night before bath). Once we get him to go, and give him a reward, he's happy, but before that it's a battle.

Collin peed on the potty this morning!!!! I'm sure it was a fluke, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I am in total denial that I will have a 3yr. old in the house come next week!
DD is moving into the pre-school room on June 2nd. Pre-School feels she is 75% potty trained. Anyone else find that their kid does better at daycare/pre-school than at home in regards to potty training?
Congratulations Portland Bride!
Yeah for Collin peeing on the potty!
Now that are kids are Pre-schoolers any good book recomendations?

New Thread-Thanks for setting this up ladies. I've got to say, I think we're one of the longest-running groups. I don't think there are too many 2005 pregnancy groups left, right? Heck, there's going to be a May 2009 thread before we know it!
Congrats Portlandbride! Man, this thread is getting a lot of three-time repeat offenders. I'm still scared of having two! :)
Christy-Abbey is way better at using the potty at school than at home. I think there's a lot to be said for peer pressure (in a good way). Plus, they have those little pottys that are less intimidating.

PTing~Congrats to everyone on their DC's progress!! No new news with us on the PT front. Just waiting on when to start the sleep training part. She's waking up dry more often, but I just don't think I have the energy right now to deal. :o
Books~Are you thinking parenting books for this age or books for the kids?
Alicia~I was noticing the same thing about the other big kid group fizzling out. I'm so glad we've stuck together! :)
Ally~Congrats!

wow, a new thread..3 years old..i'm in denial too
PT-ing..we are done w/ it..DS is in underwear and pullups at night.however, since having the new little guys, we have regressed a bit! The second day home from the hospital a poop in the pants incident. It was gross.. DH dealt w/ it..i was too disgusted and tired!
Sasha

We're in the big kids section, wow and yay! Thanks for the new thread in the new location! I think it is so nice that we have all stuck together for so long. :)
Portlandbride - Congratulations!
PT'ing - We are still status quo. Fully pee trained, night too, not poop trained. She was actually so close to being poop trained in mid-April, she had like a week of successes. And then I went away for a few days for work and it screwed everything up. She has refused to poop in the potty since then. To say it's been gross and frustrating would be a gigantic understatement. But today, she did poop in the potty at school. I don't want to get my hopes up but I am wishing, praying and wishing some more that it clicks again with her.

PT- DS is now peeing on the potty regularly- he even asked to go at a restaurant yesterday. My parents are in town though, so we haven't been focusing on it as much. And still no poop.

Thanks for the new thread, even IF I don't like the new section we're under! :( Big Kids!!! wtf?
portlandbride: Congrats again!!! :)
ally: so exciting about the house!!! :)
pt: i'm in the same boat as tgr and mrs.chappy he's been pt'ed since last July, but still in pull-ups at night, we have dry mornings and soaking wet mornings, we're nowhere NEAR night training, nor do I even want to think about what kind of mess that may be in the middle of the night! For now, I'm fine w/ pull-ups at night, and so is he! :)
We're off to Newport/Laguna Beach tomorrow, then headed over to Disneyland on Thursday to meet up with the rest of my fam, we haven't been since Landon was 11 mos. old, so I'm excited to see both him and Reece's reaction to it all. We're coming home Sunday, so I'll let you all know how it goes! :)
Have my BIG u/s next Thursday morning!!! :)

Happy Birthday, Maia!
Thanks for the new big kid thread!
Portlandbride: Congratulations!
PT: He is completely pee trained day/night. Now with the other -- he's so strange...he will ONLY poop at school. Refuses to go at home. He'll even say "I'll hold it until I get to school" and he'll say that on Saturday. He will sit and try at home, but nothing. I guess I shouldn't be too concerned since he is going at school, but I'm tired of him asking for a Pull Up at home.

Happy Birthday to Sarah, Jack and Jack!
We are having Sarah's party tomorrow! Just family and a friend who's daughter is one year older. I am excited because Sarah is healthy for her birthday this year and is starting to understand the concept of her birthday.
Sarah went pee pee in the potty yesterday evening, but only after a tantrum. I knew she was ready because she was doing the pee pee dance. This morning she cried while sitting on the potty. My goal is for Sarah to sit on the potty every day for a week, then we will have her sit without crying, and then I will see if she will sit until a timer goes off. I think I just need to do baby steps.
Hope you all have a good weekend!

Happy Belated 3rd Birthday to ALL the kids I've missed!!!
We're back from vacation. We had a great time, the weather was HOT though, in the 100's the whole time we were there until we got to Dana Point to take the boys to the beach yesterday, on the coast, of course, it was cooler. Disneyland was a HIT with both of them, Landon for sure. He really enjoyed everything and really got into the rides in Fantasyland. Also loved the Fatasmic show and the Electical Light Parade in California Adventure. Overall, it was a huge success. Then as we were driving to the coast yesterday, I got sad thinking about the next time we take him (we go every other year) he'll be almost FIVE!!! :(

I love everything Disney and we have never been to Disneyland...and to show you how much we love it we are driving 4 hrs from vagas to there for just the day then driving back to vegas to meet with friends..LOL LOL we, are freakin NUTS

I have a big kid?!?! Wha..?
DS turned 3 yesterday. We had a nice birthday lunch in the park with grandparents. He got his cookies with sprinkles (that's all he asked for) and birthday cake. We got a him his first remote controlled car which he's a little scared of.
Can I just tell you all that I am some what relieved to read about the PT statuses here. DS is in underwear most of the time and pee trained at home - he will go when we ask him to but not at school. He still isn't telling us when we have to go which is not the end of the world. It's just hard to remember to ask him while juggling the infant. We are nowhere near poop trained so hearing that others are in the same boat is reassuring to some degree.
I have to say that PTing has hands down been the most frustrating part of parenting for me.

Sarah's party went well over the weekend! I think she got that she was having a party! She still needed help opening presents though, and tried to blow out the candle with her fingers.
Sarah had her last session for OT and has graduated from Early Intervention. My child's first grauation. ;)
PT is going better. I have taken the pressure off of her at home and she is doing well at school and even peed in the potty at church on Sunday!

That thing is sooooo worth the money. :) Abbey was a little confused as to why we had a party when it wasn't her actual b-day, but she's always up for a party...just like momma. :)

Our party was on Saturday too and it went great. 100% agree on Alicia on the bounce house, so worth every dollar.
I have to say that PTing has hands down been the most frustrating part of parenting for me.
Yes, yes, yes. We had Sarah's 3 year old check up today and, at least for our problem - the fact that she refuses to poop on the potty - the ped. said to just ignore it when she has accidents and not make a big deal out of it. It's totally a control issue and the more of an issue you make of it, the more they know it's a hot button issue. So, we're just going to lay off it for now.
I also found out at the ped. that we are raising a future basketball player or model. 42" tall (although I think that is a bit high) but only 31 lbs. It is near impossible for me to find clothes that fit her properly.

Sasha~Glad Sarah's party went well. LOL about her "blowing" out the candles with her fingers. :) Wow!!! She is tall!
Alicia~Glad Maia's party went well and that the weather didn't keep people from enjoying themselves! :D Sorry, but I'm no help on the fear issues. We haven't really experienced many here beyond bad dreams about alligators eating her toes.
Ranchers~Glad you had a great time. Hard to believe that 5 years old really isn't that far away! :(
We're doing well here. I've just been putting last minute touches on DD's party in the midst of finishing up plans for my sister's wedding weekend. I'm acting as assistant wedding planner (to her) and bridal shower hostess.
Also, Shylah totally dressed herself this morning! :D We're talking underwear, pants, shirt, and shoes on her own while I was still in the shower! It was so nice to just hand her the toothbrush while I brushed my teeth and washed my face and then pull her hair up! Made for a much quicker morning here!

PT Luckily this is going very well for us and has been since Feb. He woke up dry for 2 weeks in the morning, but has been sick the last few days and had went during the night. He doesn't wear pull-ups for his nap either! We used one of those porta-potties and put it in the living room and he loved it in there, and we gradually moved it closer to the bathroom, then in the bathroom and now he just uses the seat.
Douglas is 3 tomorrow! We had his b-day party this weekend, but I didn't really invite any kids, except our close family friends. I just wasn't up to doing anything big. We had planned to use my sister's thomas decorations, but on the morning of his party he saw elmo cupcakes and I just made those instead. I kinda feel like a bad mommy since I didn't go all out. But we are going to have a fun day tomorrow! :)

PT'ingHelp please! Sarah is doing well at school and went at church. She was in underwear when I picked her up from school. She told me she needed to go pee and that she wanted a pull up. I have been trying to take the pressuer off at home. I took her in the bathroom and asked her to sit on the potty while I got the pull up. I got the pull up and she insisted on wanting to stand up. I wanted her to sit so I could get her shoes and pants off and get the pull up on. She threw another tantrum. Any suggestions on how to keep her from throwing the tantrums?

J had his 3 year ped visit yesterday. 41.5" and 41lbs. Talk about evenly proportioned! This visit was really different from previous. They asked him to perform tasks (like draw a circle), name items on cards, and the ped directed most of his questions to J like if he is a boy or a girl, how old he is, what is his full name, does he go to school, etc. They also did a vision test, which I was not expecting, and which J didn't fare so well on the distance portion. We are seeing a ped ophthalmologist in two weeks. I'm not really concerned because they way they did the test was not the most effective for a three year old, IMO. However, he did tell me a week or so ago that his eye hurt, so we'll see what she says.
Other than that, nothing much is new around here.

Congrats to Ranchers on your little girl! My mother said that if we even had a small thought about having #3 (we don't), we shouldn't think about conceiving anything other than a boy, since that's what we do. I'm glad you bucked that idea!
Brody turned 3 on Sunday, and we had a small family party. He had a great time, except for the fact that he got upset when we all sang him Happy Birthday. He loves chocolate cake, but not the frosting (what's wrong with my kid? LOL). He got an easel, legos and dinosaur set from us, plus other gifts from family.
PT'ing is sort of at a stand-still. He's great with #1, but not good with #2. We've gotten him to poop on the potty once. Brody's moving up to the 3-yr old room at school next month, and they expect them to be potty-trained. Not sure what happens if we haven't gotten him to be PT'd as far as pooping by that time.
I haven't been around in a while because we recently added to our family:
Carson James arrived on Tuesday, May 13. He was 8 lb 11 oz, 21.5 inches long. Brody is doing OK with the new arrival. He does like to tickle little Carson.

We are doing well here! Shylah amazes me every single day both in good and bad ways! LOL! She continues to excel in school and doing up to 4 pages of work a day with no problems! Today, I only had her do 2 pages and then I guide her through a 24-piece puzzle! She completed it (sorting edge/middle pieces, completing the frame, and filling it in) in about a half an hour! :D
She continues to do really good with her brother! Yesterday, while I was at the salon, she helped DH feed him and burp him. This morning she entertained him for probably 30 minutes showing him her toys and gently bounced his chair when he got fussy! I can't even begin to tell you how proud of her I've been these last few days!

I missed the boat! Just found this thread....
I can't believe this is a BIG KID thread!
And there are more babies coming!
And Kim is having a girl after 2 blue short & crazies!
And I've missed saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY to so many of the kids here that I can't even catch up!
And HOLY CRAP MY KID TURNS THREE TOMORROW!!!!
This is how I know he is a Big Kid:
A month ago we were in Panera (a bagel place) and DS ate my bagel instead of his lunch. So I got myself another one in a to go bag. He tried to take it from me, and got SO mad! But instead of having a fit, he slipped out of his chair, snuck around behind me, opened my diaper bag, grabbed my wallet, took $1 out, put the wallet back in, then walked up and stood in line to apparently buy himself a bagel.
I about died right then and there. I went up to tell the woman what he wanted, and he yelled "Bagel please", gave her the dollar, and waited til she put it in the bag for him, said "thank you" and went back to the table.
Honestly, when did he stop being my baby?

Happy Birthday Thomas tomorrow!!!
These kids turning three really is hard for me to believe! How did the time pass so quickly? We were eating at my parents on Sunday and watching Landon bounce around and one of us said "and to think, three years ago, he was still in my tummy!" Sooo hard to even fathom! And even more...who'd a thought three years ago, that my THIRD would be in my tummy, three years later! lmao! Good times!
Brett and I left the boys with my parents tonight and went and did b-day shopping for him tonight. His two girl cousins his age both got Barbie Jeeps for their b-days and he just thinks those are the greatest things ever. Loves to cruise w/ them and just thinks it's even better when they actually let him drive! So...we looked online all over for the boy version of those jeeps and nothing, so...instead, he'll be the proud owner of the Power Wheels Ford F150 grey truck, that seats two (so Reece can cruise too!) and is complete with an FM stereo, of course! Yeah, with over 100 acres to roam. This should be crazy! Also included in his b-day loot, a Caillou dvd since this is his new fav show some match box cars and a Handy Manny Coloring book. He should be a happy boy, come Wednesday! :)

We just got back from a 2-week vacation in Miami and at Disney World. Holy cow...that Disney World is crazy with a 3-year-old. We had more than our fair share of meltdowns, as it was really, really hot and she was totally overwhelmed. She did get to meet all of her favorite princesses (a few times!), so she was mostly a happy camper. And, we got to see Sasha and Sarah, which is always fun. Abbey has decided that Sarah is her "new best friend." Those two definitely kept us on our toes when together! :)

Welcome back, Alicia! The trip sounds great! :)
caillou: Yeah, he's a little PITA, from what it sounds like when listening to the show. lol Landon LOVES this damn show though. I was so over f-ing Scooby-Doo, that when he first showed interest, I was thrilled! lol It only comes on not long before he eats lunch and takes a nap, so I usually let him watch it and settle down before lunch/nap in the afternoon, but my parents have it on On Demand (we don't have Comcast, we have Direct tv, which damn...I could get into the On Demand stuff! ;)) Anyway...when he wants a show at their house, it's all about Caillou there too! Surely it'll be something else in a couple of months! ;)
psusna: Oh yeah, I thought of that last night as we were purchasing the damn thing, "oh, the stories this hot rod will bring!" ;) We were actually considering the Peg Perego "Gator" tractor thing, but what sold us on the f150 was the fact that it had doors to keep him and his passengers in. ;)

Happy Birthday to all the 3 year olds! :)
Congrats Irish! Welcome Carson! :) Hope all is going well with the newest member of the family!
Kim - LOVE the bagel story! These kids are getting WAY too independent!
Nic has lately become a runner, and we frequent Great Adventure (an amusement park) -- so i've been trying to work with him on being able to answer the questions he'd be asked if - HEAVEN FORBID - he were to get lost. So far, he knows his full name, and his address (street, city, state) ... and my and jeff's names (he sorta gets that we all have the last name). BUT, he only knows them if you ask him the right way. Like, if you ask "where do you live" he knows his street address, but if you ask what his street address is, he looks at you blankly... so far, he can answer the following questions:
whats your full name
whats your name (gets his first name, but you probably wouldnt understand the way he pronounces it)
whats your mommys name
whats your daddys name
where do you live
We're working on whats your phone number, but hes FAR from that one...
What other questions do ya think he'd need to answer if he was lost?

Happy Birthday, Thomas!!
Ranchers~What a cool gift!! DD is getting a Power Wheels for her bday as well (from the ILs), but we only have half an acre for her to cruise around on!
Callilou~I've never seen him and I'll keep it that way as long as I can! ;)
Alicia~Welcome back! Glad you had a good vacation!
Happy1~Wow! Mine can only say her city & state when asked where she lives! It sounds like you've got a good list of questions there. I'll see if I can think of any others, but your list looks pretty complete.
Well, I survived my sister's wedding weekend. Recouping from the weekend has been less than fun though. For example, we slept in and missed storytime this morning which had me on edge, so DH and I ended up in a big screaming fight. :( Luckily we took it upstairs (kids were downstairs) and had things resolved pretty quickly. It was still exhausting though.
This afternoon was better. I got grocery shopping done and the first half of DS's announcements dropping in the mail. I also got DDs schooling done, finished reading her an American Girls book, and had her read (a.k.a recite from memory) "Brown Bear..." by Eric Carle to her brother! All in all, it was a pretty productive day!

I'm terribly behind and have missed a ton of birthday, so Happy Birthday to all the new three year olds!
What Sarah knows - Her full name, our names, her town (although she doesn't get that one all the time. I've been working on our address with her, but we're having trouble with that one.
Caillou - I think he is so freakin' annoying! Sarah has no interest in him, thankfully!
psusna - Sarah knew Abbey would do great on the plane....as we said goodbye to them, Sarah told her that she would get to watch a lot of TV on the plane the next day! ;)
Alicia - Sarah keeps asking where Abbey is; and when I tell her Texas, she keeps asking how long it takes to get there. :)
Kim - That bagel story is hilarious!
(My computer isn't letting me bold, for whatever reason, so sorry nothing is bolded.)

My little girl is wearing panties to school today! Fingers crossed for a good day, although I am fully expecting to pick her up in different clothing. :p
Reciting Important Info-Abbey knows her full name and our city and state. She has taken to calling DH and I "Scott and Alicia," so I don't think we have to worry about that part.
Sasha-Tell Sarah it's just a 2 hour flight to Austin and only $99 each way on Jet Blue. :)

Good luck Abbey!! You can do it!! (fingers crossed)
I think it's so cool that our kids (and mom's!) get to meet up from time to time with vacations, etc.!!
Caillou -- no interest here
Known Information -- full name (which he now says as Jackson Douglas (last name) Pre-K...they are getting ready to move to the Pre-K wing so they are teaching that in case they get lost, to tell someone they belong in Pre-K :)), our names, state, city. Working on street address but not much interest there.
So yesterday DH took J to an afternoon Braves/Marlins game and both were very excited about the day. Problem -- game started at 1 and J crashed in his seat in the 3rd inning. Guess we aren't close to dropping the nap... Last time we took him to a game (last August) he lasted until the 7th inning. DH was a little upset that they left early b/c it was a great ending and his team (Marlins) won.

Happy birthday to all that I have missed!!!
Known Information His full name, our full names, my parents names, city, state, my parents city.
Caillou He likes him, so I try when turning on cartoons to be careful and not let him see that he's on. He's such a brat, and the parents let him whine and complain without discipline! I can't stand him.
Power wheels Douglas got one last year and loves it! Although the other day he was looking at his trailer (has a John Deer one) and was going down our hill and crashed into a small tree! He was okay, but he hasn't driven down that hill since!

Happy Belated Birthday to Asher, Thomas and Landon (and any others I missed)!
kimthebride I love the story about the bagel, that is hilarious!
Caillou DD loves Caillou too. I find him to be a whiney brat but for some reason that show totally calms her down. She only asks for it if we happen to pass it while looking for something to watch but she definitely enjoys it. BUT how is it that Caillou is 4 and does not have one bit of hair on his head?????
known information she can tell people her first, middle and last names. DH's first and last name and my first name. I never changed my last name and she really doesn't know my last name since I haven't really gone over that with her. She knows what state she lives in but we never really talk about the city. I haven't worked on the address/phone at all.
do you worry about stranger danger yet? DD is very social, independent and not shy at all. She goes up to any random person at the store, whatever and asks "What's your name?". Then if they ask she tells them her name (usually only first but knows her last and would tell it if asked). At what point do I worry about her telling people too much? That's one reason I haven't worked on address/phone. I can totally see her telling someone at CVS. 'Hi I'm Katherine [lastname] and I live at [address]" etc.
Alicia I hope Abbey does great in panties today.
PTing We have made no progress, everytime I mention it to DD she changes the subject or tells me she "will try tomorrow" Please tell me just one day she will agree to do it and I won't be sending her to kindergarden in diapers! Honestly I wish some of her friends were PTing. Most are younger than her and aren't there yet either so she has no peer pressure. It's driving me crazy though that she won't even try.

Happy belated Birthday to Landon!!

Holy $hit, did we have a doozey of a visit to the ped today. Never before has Landon freaked out, but I guess he's been so healthy lately (knock on wood) that the little terd just forgot how he LIKES the ped, um....lets just say, our visit today (from the moment the nurse asked him to step on the scale) involved screaming, kicking, hitting, spitting, snot slinging, you name it, he did it. It was awful! To say the least. Not even a lolly pop could calm him down. OMG...I was at a loss for words, the ped laughed and said he'd done about 5 3 year check ups today and they all went the same way Landon's was going. I talked to my cousin this evening and she was there earlier and Madison was one of the other 3 year old who pulled the shenanigans on him before we arrived! lol Good Lord...So, I have NO CLUE what his height was, as I was wrestling with him, but I did see that he weighed 33 lbs. or hell, maybe it was 34. Other than that, he just got a normal check up and a tb skin test.
known info: First, Middle and Last Name, his brothers first middle and last name which he calls him by, most of the time. Both mine and Brett's names. He knows the state, but though we've talked about the town we live in, i haven't really worked on that.

Ped visit - we have our annual on Monday and I was coming in here to check to see if there were shots with this visit. Now reading Rancher's account, I am a little scared. DS has been remarkably healthy (KNOCK ON WOOD) and hasn't seen the doctor since his last annual last year. We've been talking up the doctor so hopefully that will help but I want to prep him in case there is a shot.
We are on day 4 of no poop. Today is not going to be pretty.
Known info: His and everyone else in the family. Knows his state. Haven't really thought about teaching street, etc because he's kind of a blabber mouth anyway. I don't know what the other milestones are for the age but I am fairly certain that DS is fine. His only issue is lack of height or weight :)

Cynder give the ped's office a call before you go and ask about the shots, that's what I did so I could adequately prepare her (I just talked to the receptionist). DD did not have a shot but did have a finger prick for a lead test. DD also had not been to the ped since last October and I thought she would freak (as she did before) but surprisingly she did not. I had her watch "Elmo goes to the doctor" and we read a Bernstain Bears book about going to the doctor. We talked about it a bit and she was actually "excited" to go to the doctor.
Ranchers was it a full moon or something? Wow, I've had a similar experience before and I ended up being drenched in sweat when we left.

Happy Belated Birthday to Asher, Thomas and Landon and any others I missed!
Caillou - i dont even know who this is, and won't be trying to find out any time soon. I love tivo... we watch sesame street and my new favorite show ... word world! (my sister got nic the dvd for his birthday) .. its AWESOME! Nic's new thing to say is that he's going to eat some P-I-e pie! (usually telling his brother, and then he goes and pretends to make and eat something!..too cute!)
do you worry about stranger danger yet? - hmmm, that thought didn't even cross my mind...i was just worried about losing him! ... yet another thing to worry about... Nic's not the most social and if people are too friendly, he gets a lil clingy, which is good (sort of)... unless there's a kid with them.. then he'll be their best friend. Argh, the things we moms get to worry about...
PTing - still on standby with that here. I think I'll be buying diapers forever! (after nic's complete shutdown of all bodily functions, im not pushing...he's started to ask to go on the potty - and pees - about once every other day. I keep telling him when he complains about diaper changes that he needs to go on the potty to avoid the changes, but that hasnt worked...not sure what we're going to do...
Getting dressed: So, this is the point of the day I HATE with a passion. It's always a fight. Nic doesn't want to get dressed, and if asked to choose his own clothes, picks out pjs (even if i give him a choice of this or that, he STILL goes to his closet and gets his own pjs to wear for the day. Before i go out and buy a wardrobe of pj's that could be clothes (his preferred ones are the ones with feet...OBVIOUSLY pjs) ..any advice? (and i tried bringing two choices downstairs, but he just tried to go upstairs and get his own). I've stopped giving him choices and am just choosing his clothes for him again - its still a major battle, but he only gets a top and a bottom to throw around instead of a whole closet full...

Happy Birthday to everyone who celebrated over the weekend!
Has anyone taken their child for a complete eye exam? DS is going on Wednesday off a referral from his recent WCV and I’m not sure how to prepare him for what to expect beyond the standard parts of an exam. I guess a better question is does a child’s eye exam mirror that of an adult in terms of tests performed? The web site for the ophthalmologist we’ll be seeing doesn’t detail the exams for children, just calls it a “comprehensive eye exam”.
TIA :)

Ped visit went well. No shots for us because we are bypassing the Hep A. He's solidly in the 10% percentile for everything. Atta boy!
psusna Unbeknown to us, our visit today included a vision test. It was pretty fast and easy. DS sat in DH's lap. The first part was to check for "lazy eye" (I am sure there is a medical term though it escapes me now. They hold up two cards and have him point to the one with the letter E. Then they put this funky sunglasses on them that I guess only allows them to see the E. The nurse then mixed up a the 2 cards and asked each time to point to the E. The second part is like a letter vision chart for adults except that it uses shapes (circle, heart, square, house) instead of letter. First they read a couple of lines and then again while DH covered each eye. That's it.
psusna
06-09-2008, 09:46 AM
Cynder: That vision test is similar to what DS had at his WCV as well. He failed the distance portion where she took the cards with the shapes out into the hall and he had to tell which she was holding. Now we are going to a ped ophthalmologist for a full vision work up. -- I'm glad your DS had a good check up :)

vision test: I thought maybe he'd have one at the appt. (from hell) last week but they didn't do one. Thank goodness, because I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been able to see, as he was to busy melting down! ;)
cynder: What a good boy Sam is! :)
Got Landon all registered for pre-school today. He starts in mid-August. I'm both excited for him and sad, sad that he's old enough to go! I know it'll be good for him (and me too!). He'll go two days a week from 8-12, so I think we'll all survive! ;)

Hi everyone! I haven't posted here since before the baby was born. Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
Life's been a bit crazy - but things are setteling now.
Jacklyn Sophia was born on April 25th. She's a doll and Jessie's in love with her baby sister. She's now 6 weeks old and other than the lack of sleep - all is going very well.
Jessie turned three yesterday. Thanks for the b-day wishes! We celebrated by having 28 kids at a Little Gym near my house. The kids had a blast - but I was not thrilled with the place. The gym instructor was very good but they had 2 people on staff to work the party. They needed al least 4. But aside from a little bit of chaos - all went well and Jessie enjoyed her party.
Jessie got the Barbie Jeep for her b-day from DH's family. She doesn't want to drive it - but she does love it. I took her to TRU on Friday for her b-day present (she picked Big Sister Dora - which made me teary) and she didn't want to leave the aisle with the electric cars/jeeps etc. I had to bribe her out. She wanted to sit in every vehicle! Then on Sunday, she was a little freaked out by it. She said it went to fast - but we set it up on the "slow" setting. She did want to visit it in out garage this morning... very interesting!
I hope everyone is doing well and a big Happy Birthday to all the new 3 year olds! TIme really flies!

Happy Birthday to the latest round of three year olds!!
Jessiesmama- Congratulations!
ped visit- We're a little late as DS's doc is on maternity leave until next month. DS will have his appt at the same time that DD has her 4 month visit. I'd rather have scheduled them separately, but DH likes to be there and can't take that much time from work. I haven't heard about a vision test, but it will be interesting to see how he does. He knows his letters and shapes, but gets a little silly when asked to name them.
PT- Total regression here. He won't even go pee on the potty anymore and insists on a regular diaper. I actually ran out of them this morning and got him to wear underwear for about 5 minutes before he took them off and put on a pull-up. Have no idea what to do. We think he wants to hold on to every scrap of attention that he can get now that he has to share us with DD. A friend of mine is having a "potty party" for her son on Thursday, maybe that will kick start something.

vision exam psusna the only exam DD had was when she was 9 months or so through Infantsee. They did dialate her pupils though so J might have to have the drops, you might want to call and ask, I can't imagine getting a 3 year old (or at least my 3 year old) to cooperate with the drops.

Eye Doctor: Everything went great and his eyes are fine. She said that the pain he complains of is most likely allergy related as the inside of his eyes looked irritated today, but nothing is scratched or damaged. It was not enough to warrant Rx drops, but she said if he complains more regularly and they look irritated on the surface, she could call in a Rx drop for him. It makes sense as he has been sneezing up a storm lately. She said his vision is age appropriate and his eyes are developing right on track. I can not speak highly enough of this practice and believe that there are pediatric specialties in medicine for a reason. They were so good with him and made the exam a game where he was a pirate (with a patch on his eye(s) of adhesive cloth), and the doctor had an animatronic owl and dog in the room on the far wall to get him to look in certain directions. He didn’t fuss (even for the eye drops!) and sat up in the chair like a seasoned pro. Strongly recommend a pediatric ophthalmologist if you ever need eye care for your DC’s. It is funny, though, to try and watch him look at a book with his pupils the size of saucers -- he keeps moving it close and far to see the pictures :)
Whew. Cross that off the list. Next up, dentist.

We have been so busy here since returning from my sister's wedding. Here's a quick bulletted recap:
Summer storytime started on June 3, and we are already half way through our goal of reading 30 books!
Shylah's princess birthday party is all planned!! I just need to rent the princess cake pan, and we're all set!
For Father's Day, we got DH a card, traditional "Daddy's Girl" picture, and an Armor All kit. Still haven't figured out how to get DS in the mix.
Shylah finished up her first half of preschool!! I jotted down a quick schedule for her second half, and if all goes according to it, we'll be set to start Kindergarten this fall. I'm following her lead, though, so if it turns out to be too much, we'll back things off.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Shylah everyone!!
Yesterday was pretty rough. DH had been OOT since Monday and DD and I were missing him terribly. She had decided to kick the trying threes into full gear while he was gone on top of it so that by the time he got home yesterday, we were both a mess. :( We decided then to send her to ILs house, and they took her out to dinner and had cake and ice cream with her when they got back. Hopefully that little bit of time helped make her actual birthday a nice one.

Big Kid Bed (rail) Question
We are going on vacation in a few weeks. DD is still in a crib at home and likely too long for her Pack n Play (although ok weight-wise). I'm trying to figure out sleeping arrangements for her. We are staying in a 2 bedroom condo so she will have her own room. There are 2 twin beds with trundles underneath. Do I:
1) Push one bed to the wall, and put up a bed rail? If so ANY RECs for a bed rail? We are driving so I can bring something.
2) Push one bed to the wall to access the trundle and have her sleep on that since it is low to the floor. Maybe put pillows down should she roll off.
3) Should I schlep the PNP anyway? She's slept in that 2 years in a row down there and I'm afraid if we don't bring it she'll refuse to sleep on the bed. Although we of course will do everything to make it "fun" and "cool" etc. ;)
I'm a little concerned since she hasn't slept in BKB before that we will have some horrible nights - any suggestions are welcome!
TIA!

alien I am totally amazed that your DD hasn't tried to jump out of her crib by now.
If I were you I would just push the bed against the wall and put pillows or a big comforter on the floor incase she falls off during the night.
I really think IMO shes too big for a PNP
ahavnes
06-23-2008, 02:22 PM
alienhost-I'd do the trundle b/c it's closer to the ground (although Abbey sleeps in a regular-sized BGB and has never fallen out--and she's a crazy sleeper!)
psusna
06-23-2008, 06:10 PM
alien: I'd do the trundle as well with pillows on the floor. I'm also amazed she has not tried to escape the crib and think she is too big for the PNP.

Why, after 5 MONTHS, of night trained sleep did J wet the bed last night? I'm talking SOAK the thing down at 3:30 in the morning. Crikey. It's a rhetorical question really, I don't expect anyone to know the answer -- J doesn't even know why he did it :)

alien I am totally amazed that your DD hasn't tried to jump out of her crib by now.
HA don't be so amazed! I jinxed myself since DD jumped out of the crib twice last night after DH was putting her to bed and I was out.....can you believe it? Anyway thanks everyone for the suggestions.
I think I'm going with the trundle bed on since it is lower and put some pillows around if needed.
I still could use a bedrail recommendation though for the double bed in her room since apparently she will be using that soon. ;) We can convert the crib to a toddler bed and will do that until I can get the BGB set up with a rail etc.
ETA: psusna is it possible that DS had a dream that he was peeing and then actually wet the bed b/c he thought he was in the bathroom? That's a stretch huh? Anyway I'm sorry you had to be woken up at 3:30 to change sheets.

Alien~The first time we slept DD in a big kid bed, it was in a trundle unraised. She fell out of it twice that night, but the fall was only about 6 inches and didn't even wake her up. As far as a bed rail, we are using the Disney Princess (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/418llQd3tUL._SL500_AA280_.jpg) one by The First Years and really like it!
Psusna~Ugh!! How frustrating!
Off to ILs to visit our friend from GA. She comes to KS every couple of years to meet any new kids ;) and just catch up with what's going on with us.

cots-mary kate slept on a nap mat. i was also struggling with what to do once mk outgrew the pnp. When i realized she basically slept on the floor, I decided to try a sleeping bag. She does really well on it.

Alien - I'll reiterate what Chylynn posted about the inflatable Dora bed. Worked like a charm, Sarah loves when she gets the opportunity to sleep on it.
Cots - Sarah's daycare uses mats, and I send in a sheet and blanket. She would never fit on one of those cots seeing as she is 41+ inches tall! And like Abbey, the days she actually naps on it are hit or miss. ;)

jrdhbunny - I'm impressed that James sat still and was actually smiling during the haircut. We still get tons of crying (DS just doesn't like people touching his head...I get a bit less crying when I try it, but the haircut looks crappy). The last time was better though and he only cried/screamed for the first 5 minutes.

I think we are finally potty trained. About 2 weeks ago, we had a breakthrough, as far as pooping on the potty. He had constipation issues, so after loading him up with grapes and spiking his juice with prune juice and withholding bananas and cheese, it magically became easy. This past week, he finally started telling us when he had to go potty (although we still take him every 2 hrs to be safe). Nighttime is next!

Things have been hectic around here, as our new baby girl has arrived! Here are her stats:
Sophia Rose
6 lb 13 oz
21" length
13" head circumference

Overall, she's doing well. We've had problems with jaundice; her poor heels are full of lancet marks and bruises. But she's starting to nurse a little better now so hopefully, that will all be behind us soon!
Recovery is going well for me- I was blessed with a very short labor, easy delivery and superior epidural! Ava is very excited as a big sister; she asks to hold the baby and will get diapers, pacifers, blankets, etc.
So without further ado,

We had James's 3 year well visit yesterday.
Height- 38.5 inches (70%)
Weight- 33.5 pounds (70%)
The doctor didn't ask him his name or anything, but she did ask him to name a few colors and to count as high as he could. I guess with his talking her ear off, she figured he was fine in the vocal area. And no vision test, but she had him jump for her, touch his toes, and give her a high five. No advice on the eating front- her 3 year old son is exactly like James with his reluctance to eat solid (non-pureed) foods. As for PT, she said we should just let him dictate when he goes poop in the potty and focus mainly on peeing regularly so he can go to preschool.

We have been crazy busy here!! Homeschooling is an adventure as always. :p I have been working with her on writing her letters, and we are to the letter Hh. She can also write her name now with help! As soon as she gets more confident with that, we'll be getting her very own library card! :D She is still doing great with DS.
Just so you all don't think things are all sunshine and roses here, we have been dealing somewhat with the trying threes, and I'm still trying to convince DH to use the 1-2-3 Magic system with her on the back talking in particular!
I've also been busy planning our town's fall festival and serving as one of the team leaders in our church's nursery. Emotionally, I've really been focusing on keeping the PPD away. I don't think I actually have it, but I have noticed more irritability lately. I talked to a lady in my church about coming over once every week or two for some informal counseling with a person who has been there. (She has 6 kids - 5 girls and 1 boy - who are all adults.)

Checking in, things have been busy around here!
First off, congrats Hedgegirl and welcome baby Connor!!!
I cannot believe Landon will be starting preschool in less than two weeks. We had enrolled him in our 2nd choice, for two mornings a week (8-11:30), but got a call last week that informed us we had a spot at our first choice. So, I took him, talked w/ the teacher and he LOVED it, pitched a fit when it was time to leave. Which, as funny as this sounds, made me happy to see him liking it so much and hopefully, it'll be less hard on me, when we go to drop him and he's a happy guy about it. This pre-school is more montessori based, which is what we wanted to begin with, so that's good. He starts next Tuesday and has been asking almost daily when he gets to go to school. I'll be sending him Tues./Thurs. from 8-11:30, I hope
