I knew it was coming, since I heard about 2 weeks ago on the news, but forgot the exact day. I had a whole pile of 1 cent stamps. Well today I went to drop off something at the Post Office, and TODAY was the day...lucky me, I got to buy 4 1 cent stamps so I could mail the letters I brought :(

I have various stamps in my desk at home, lol, some would require more than 2 one cent stamps. I also have some of the forever stamps - thank goodness for those! :)

I was going to go out and buy some forever stamps this weekend to mail my daughters graduation announcements, and forgot! Oh well!

I was at the post office Saturday and heard the postal workers that the stamps are increasing, just as a reminder. It will increase every year from now on around this time they said.

Gotta say it was so funny how people were freaking out and buying books and books of stamps. I bought a book, because I needed stamps. I don't mail that much stuff out, had I needed to send out wedding invites or something similar, sure would have bought them. I only mail my rent check, figure would cost more in gas to drop it by their house then a .42 stamp does.

Doh....I knew about this....even joked about it this morning with DH. And I still put a card in the mail with an old stamp on it. Guess I'll just wait for it to come back. Or maybe it'll be held at the recipients PO for a penny ransom. I had that happen once.

Friend of our's brought it up on Friday night. Even though we knew, she had a major funny:

She wanted to drop off stuff at the post office to mail, but she couldn't because she didn't have any stamps at home.....

Yes, she's blonde. :p

But in her defense....she...no, really, there's no excuse there.

We had a whole stack of BILLS in the mail that had to go out today, and we forgot...The mailcarrier stood at our mailbox and wrote +.01 on EVERY single envelope (probably 5 or 6). Yeah, we're smart people (I'd like to think). She could have just written it on one. :D I hope they get there on time now (credit card, car payment, etc.)

Why you shouldn't buy Forever Stamps (http://www.slate.com/id/2166475/)

In a nutshell: Stamps are required by law to increase at a lower rate than inflation, so stamps you buy next year will be worth less in constant dollars than stamps you buy this year.

I totally get the "don't by Forever stamps", but it's not like any of us are out there purchasing hundreds/thousands of dollars in stamps. For me, getting the Forever stamp was more of a convience thing of not having to have .02 or .01 cent stamps around.

I did get a roll of new stamps this week. We rarely use them all before the next increase (I still have .37 stamps!) but with graduation announcements, wedding cards, and thank you's that will need to be sent out soon, I'm sure we'll use up more than we usually do. I'll send the rest to DD for college.

Yeah, the convenience is worth it for me, because I use maybe 10 stamps a year on birthday cards. (Pay all bills online.)

I hate Forever stamps because they are so ugly. I try not to buy them but my post office never has anything else.

Both our town's post offices are OUT of one cent makeup stamps. I'm kind of pissed.
