I will be 5 months in 2 weeks and was wondering when DH and I should start buying furniture for the nursery.

I think we ordered the crib & dresser when I was 26-27 weeks and the glider at 28 weeks. We just skated by w/that glider - it came in like a week before my EDD!

We ordered ours when I was about 5 months pregnant and i'm glad we did because some items took anywhere from 4-10 weeks to arrive. If you want your nursery "complete"...the earlier the better in case stuff is backordered.
At 22-23 weeks, and everything we bought was available to take home that day.

I was 20w. I had to actually go over to my journal at the other place and look this up. lol We ordered the crib, a hi-lo dresser, a hutch, an armoire, and a rocker/ottoman set. Everything except the hutch arrived in 10-14 days. We were told 16-20 weeks for the hutch and I think it arrived in about 10 weeks. Something to think about in case you order a custom item like a hutch.

We ordered it when I was 5 months pregnant. It took the crib and combo 8 weeks to come in. I waited until June to order my glider and I wish I hadn't because I'm 8 weeks out and they tell me there is still 4 more weeks (at least) before it comes.

We just ordered everything this past weekend. I am 23 weeks. Everything we ordered will take between 8-10 weeks, but I have heard that some things can take up to 16 weeks or more. I'm glad we got it out of the way and will be glad to have the nursery set up way ahead of time.

We ordered when I was about 20 weeks, and were told that the crib would be delivered in 12. Well, after numerous mix ups and mistakes on the part of the store, we finally got the crib just a couple of weeks before my EDD. So I always advocate buying that stuff early on.

We bought the crib when I was 24 weeks pregnant.

I think I was about 20 weeks. We were told it would be like 10 weeks but it ended up being much shorter (and I'm glad!) It feels good to have some things settled.

Wow what a slacker I am,lol I am 36 weeks and have ordered nothing. I just figured that since the baby isn't going to sleep in there for the first 3 months then I could order it anytime. I guess i will go and order them next week.

Thanks ladies,
My next appointment is on the 22nd hopefully we'll be able to find out what we're having. I think DH and I will be looking at furniture then. I didn't realize so many people bought so early in the pregnancy but you're right it takes a while for some things to come in so it is best to order early.
Thanks again

I recommend ordering as soon as you can. We ordered our nursery furniture (crib, dresser, night stand) at around 23 weeks and were quoted 8 weeks and it came in 6. We ordered the glider a week later at 24 weeks and were quoted 10-12 weeks and we are not at 13 weeks later and still waiting:rolleyes:. The baby is due in 2 weeks, so hopefully we have it by then!!!

I ordered around 20 weeks - they quoted me a SIXTEEN week wait time. It thankfully will be here no later than 9/15, though. I still have yet to order a glider.

Well after our appointment we found out that we are having a girl (90% chance) so we bought the crib, changing table and I just ordered the dresser Friday from JCPenny (should be delivered to the store in a week) the only things left are the glider, crib mattress, and crib bedding.

I'm glad we did order and started putting things together the dresser we got from JCPenny was missing the bottom to one of the drawers and we are going through some drama with them.

Thats a real bummer. Sorry! Good thing you have some time!
I guess I am in the minority here but we didn't even begin to look at furniture until after DS was born.
We bought his crib when he was 5 weeks old, but it was in stock. The changing table is a hand-me-down. And the glider we just got last week, but it only took 1.5 weeks to come in from the time we ordered it -- they quoted us 3 weeks as it is part of the Dutalier Express line. The ottoman should be here the first week in November.
We've already bought the cribs (probably the only furniture we'll buy; we're using other furniture we already have). I ordered them when I was about 15 weeks pregnant because I kept hearing stories about people having to wait 16 weeks & stuff (and considering I'm pregnant with twins, I didn't want to have to worry about the nursery when I'm 30+ weeks pregnant and the size of an 18-wheeler, nor did I want to wait until after they were born).
Because Murphy has a Law, however, the cribs arrived four days after I ordered them!!! I laughed that I've had clothing orders from the Gap that took a lot longer than that! So anyway, we're prepared now (and we still haven't taken them out of the boxes; if there's something wrong with either, we have PLENTY of time to take care of getting it fixed).

I was just about to search for this thread because I was wondering how long furniture actually takes to come in. I ordered furniture at 23+ weeks. I was quoted 14-16 weeks which stressed me out. But I just got a call less than 2 weeks after we ordered that our furniture is in. Now I have to actually choose the bedding so we can choose paint colors and paint in the next 2 weeks before it's delivered. Guess I'm glad it's early and not the original long end of 16 weeks when the baby could have been here already! :D

We ordered ours when I was 14 wks pg. Glider and crib came in after 1 week... still waiting on dresser which should take another couple weeks (6 weeks total).

I am exactly 12 weeks today and we just placed our order for the Crib and Changing table today!
The main reason was we decided to order so soon was that we wanted Black (not rubbed/antiqug...just black) and we noticed that not only it is hard to find but most of it requires a TON of lead time. So, when we came across a set that just came out at BRU, we decided to order it b/c usually when a line just comes out the maker usually doesn't have enough in stock to meet demand and since it was black, which is limited to begin with we decided to order it now.
I think we have jumped the gun, but my philosophy is it is better to be early than late:)

We bought the glider from BRU in-stock around 7 months. I was 6½-7 months when we bought and put together the dresser/changing table. Got the crib from a friend around 8 months. So I was prety big, and took it really slow and light with all of that assembly work.
If you plan on having a glider, I'd recommend getting it earlier - it was sooo nice during those last couple of months of pregnancy - I rocked for a few hours though my contractions too.
