I remember these from when I was in grade school, but I can't believe we are already dealing with them.

Yesterday I got an invitation to join "the sticker club" from one of my son's friends. Send a packet of stickers to the two kids on the letter, replace the top one with your kid's name, and pass it along to six more friends. Maybe I am a party pooper mom, but I don't want to pass thing along to six other kids, most of whom have probably already received it from the same people, and obligate their parents to go out and buy stickers. I'm debating if I feel nice enough to send stickers out to the two kids on the list or whether I should just toss the whole thing in the recycling.

In the world of baking chain letters, something called Friendship Bread is making its way through the older children in our neighborhood. I haven't had any experience with this one, but one of the other moms hinted that I might soon be aquainted with it...

What chain letters has your child received? Do you think it's fun to pass them along, or do you break the chain?

Thankfully, we haven't received any chain letters yet. I routinely break e-mail chains, so I'm sure I'll have to keep up that tradition when the time comes ;)

My feeling is that once my kid gets her own letters and can fulfill upon the requests on her own (within reason, I don't mind giving her stamps, envelopes, etc.), that's her deal, but if *I* have to be responsible for doing/buying/sending...um, it's just not happening.

i've had other moms ask first if we want to participate, i had no problem saying "no thanks, i have enough stickers on my walls + furniture all ready" :D

My son has done the sticker club letter twice and never received any stickers either time. He also did the book club which is just like the sticker letter but you send a book instead of the stickers, he didn't get any books either. No biggie but I don't think we will be doing any more chain letters.

I also frequently break chain letters and chain emails. Honestly, I don't have the money (or the time) to be buying and sending "junk" that my kids really don't need. (And I too have plenty of stickers around my house)

Ugh. I have one neighbor who has sent us a couple. The 1st one was book-related & I followed through. DS only received a couple of books, but it was worth only sending out one. Then we received a sticker chain letter & I let the neighbor know I wasn't interested. I just felt guilty spamming my friends again.

We got some amish friendship bread starter from a friend of ours, and it's really good! It's kind of a pain in the butt, but man, that was some good friend. That one's easy though, you can make the bread, and if you want pass the starter on to others, you can, otherwise you can just pitch it.
