I'm going to boycott Edy's ice cream!
I was at the store last night and noticed that Edy's ice cream (Dryer's brand in other parts of the US) has changed their container size. Instead of giving us a whole 1.75 qts, they are now packaging their ice cream in 1.5 qt containers. And, charging the same price. So, instead of getting 14 servings in a container, there are only 12 now.
Do they think they are going to pull one over on us?
About 5 or 6 years ago, when all of the ice cream companies changed from 1/2 gallon containers to 1.75 qts, it wasn't that noticeable. But, if you see the 1.5 qt container, it is VERY obvious.
I think I will email them and tell them what a$$hats they are!

Yep, Breyers did it too. What cruelty!

I just bought one last week and didn't even notice until I got it home. Ugh.

Eh, if they hadn't done that, they would have raised the prices. Tomato, tomahto.

I don't get what the big deal is? Prices for all food items have increased and manufacturers have to respond to that. Cereal boxes have all shrunk in the past year too.

Actually, I think I would rather pay an extra .50 cents for ice cream than have the size shrink. I can totally understand that the price of food needs to increase with the times. But, why decrease the size when they can just increase the price.
Do they really think we are that stupid?
Actually, they are pretty cunning in their new marketing scheme because I'm sure they realize that 1.5 qts may not get a family through the week, so the customer will buy TWO containers instead of one, thus increasing their sales. Geez, I wish I had bought stock in ice cream.

Well, actually, they have been raising their prices steadily this past year anyways. But, now they can just fatten their wallets even more.

The jerks!
DH just brought home a Breyers today and it is still 1.75 qts. Gotta go out and buy all of them up before they start stocking the shelves with the smaller sizes! :p
The funny thing about it is that our local chain grocery store kept the 1.75 qts of Edy's on the shelves and put the 1.5 qts out too. For the same price. Der.
Good. We don't need to eat all that ice cream.

I only buy Blue Bell Ice cream (its regional), and the container says "Still a 1/2 gallon, 2 qts". I never understood that until I read this thread! :) Now I appreciate it even more!

My favorite brand is ice cream is Brighams (local) and they only sell it in a quart (not sure if it is a "real" quart or not) I HATE the fact that they don't sell it in a pint - I really don't need all the ice cream either!
