Just being nosey. ;) We are in the first group to get our money. We also signed up for direct deposit and haven't seen it as of yet. According to the IRS they started the process on Monday the 28th. I am sure that it will be here by Friday. ;)

I was wondering this same thing. DH last two digits are 22 mine is 16? So whose wil they go off of? Probably his? So, when they said they started processing it, did they mean that it would acutally hit your account? Or it won't hit until Friday? Just cairous?

Did you file jointly? It goes by the first person on the returns, IIRC.

You can get the payment schedule that the IRS has posted on their site here (http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=180250,00.html)

From that schedule, the direct deposit listing:

DIRECT DEPOSIT

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be transmitted no later than:
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16

My guess is that some people have already received theirs based on the above.

Not yet. :( The last two of my SSN are 10 so I'm hoping to get it soon.

A good friend of ours got his yesterday.

FWIW, I still haven't gotten my tax return money yet. I sent off my signed forms just after Easter but dummy me didn't do direct deposit...but then again, they didn't ask me if I wanted that option. SO already got tax return money direct deposited into his checking account, but hasn't gotten stimulus money yet.

Both DH and I have SSNs in that first batch- I just checked our Bank of America online and our refund check is listed as pending.... now whether we will put it in an ING CD (my choice) or buy a new TV (Dh's greatest desire) remains to be seen!

Yours is going to be mailed to you then, so you won't get it until after all the direct deposits have been made, is my understanding.

DH has a S.S. # in the first batch, but we owed this year, and paid by check , so we are just waiting on the check. I really really hope it gets here BEFORE we leave for vacation on the 18th, but it looks like we may be cutting it close.

The dates that Jimmy's girl posted are only for the rebates of those who did direct deposit on their returns. If you didn't use direct deposit, you will get a paper check and those are not scheduled to be mailed until after all of the direct deposit rebates have been paid.

I work at a bank and have people asking these questions all week:) I've seen one with a SSN ending in 10 that has been direct deposited and my friend's who ends in 00 has yet to be direct deposited.

Now, oddly enough, this girl I work with, her mother received hers in the mail on Tuesday:eek: This has us all thoroughly confused.

Not yet, scheduled in the second round, so I'm hoping for Monday, but trying not to get my hopes up. I still don't know how much money we're getting. Any SAHMs that have gotten theirs already mind telling me if you and your dh both got 600 or just dh? I've heard that if you filed married filing jointly, then it doesn't matter who made what as long as it's all under $150k and then I've heard that it does matter, and even if filing jointly, you'll only get the $600 if you personally made over 3K.

To be fair, I really do feel for them. The gas increase is really, really hitting most of my tenants hard. But, yeah, when I see the big screens and brand new furniture of some of them, well, yeah, it is annoying.

jimmysgirl424
05-01-2008, 10:28 AM
So does that mean if you owed, regardless of how you paid, you're still in the paper check category?

I *think* that if you paid what you owed by electronic payment (bank draft) then you will get your stimulus via direct deposit. I will go research and see if I can find out for sure.

jimmysgirl424
05-01-2008, 10:37 AM
I was wrong. Here is the information for anyone who owed and paid by direct debit:

Q. I chose direct debit to pay my tax bill. Will my stimulus payment be direct deposited to the same account?

A. No, the account information used for an incoming direct debit payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the direct deposit of the stimulus payment. People who choose direct debit to pay a balance due will receive their stimulus payments by paper check through the mail. [Updated 3/3/08]

Q I filed my return on time, but I haven’t received my stimulus payment, even though the payment date listed for my Social Security number has passed. Why?

A. In general, the payment schedule only applies if your return was received and the IRS finished processing your return before April 15. If you filed your return on time, but close to the April 15 deadline, the IRS may not have finished processing it before April 15.

Processing times for tax returns and stimulus payments vary. If you are getting a regular income-tax refund, the IRS will send you that refund first. Normally, your stimulus payment will follow one to two weeks later.

If you are not expecting a regular tax refund, your stimulus payment should arrive a minimum of six weeks after you file.

Why do you not get one?

I was just over the cutoff amount for salary and I'm single, so I didn't have much to bring it down with (dependents, etc).

It doesn't feel completely fair - because of the high cost of living where I live, but I'm not complaining. I'm just happy to have a job and no worries about my mortgage increasing, etc..

But I stimulated the economy anyway. :D

You'll be getting a check since the IRS doesn't actually have your bank account info on file. The IRS sent your refund to the tax service's bank and then they removed their fees and direct deposited the money to you. Make sense?

No, it probably means you each got $300. $600 is the max per adult, but it's between $300 and $600 depending on your tax liability. I'm a SAHM and we received $1655.20. Don't have the slightest idea how they came up with that number, but I'm not complaining.

That is a strange number, lol! Interesting, did you and your DH make more than $150k? I know they were going to phase the amount out if you were above the income....

Nope, not even close to 150k. Or 75k.

I was told on another (non-gov't site) that each person making under 75/150k would receive $300-$600 depending on your tax liability and then $300 per child. IIRC they quoted an IRS page that explained it - I'll try to dig it up.

Quoted from another message board, which was apparently from yet another different one.

Ok if you used 1040 add lines 52 and 57 if they end up less than $1,200 then you had a less than $1200 tax liability and your check will be $600 shorter---sorry got that off another site i'm on hope it helps someone

Based off of that, we probably then had 1055.20 in tax liability, then $300 for each child. Had it been $1200 plus, we would have gotten $1200 back.

According to everything I've read our check should have been deposited today, but it's not there. I knew I shouldn't count on this money. I can't figure out why I haven't gotten it yet- we did not have any tax prep fees taken out of the refund so really there's no other explanation. Did this happen to anyone else?

The IRS website did say that checks would be deposited by close of business on 5/16, so maybe it will be there later today...but any other direct deposit I've ever gotten has been there in the morning.

Do you get any sort of refund anticipation loan? I know there are a lot of issues for anyone who had their taxes done by a service (ie Jackson Hewitt). I am not sure how the whole thing works. It is very confusing but I keep hearing stories on the news about all the different things that can cause someone with direct deposit to still have to wait for a paper check.

No, we did not get a refund anticipation loan. I did the taxes myself using a free tax prep program (TaxACTonline). I filed through their website but did not have to pay any fees.

If you filed for free through tax act, you might be in 'low tax liability' category. Did you go to the IRS site mentioned above to see if you were getting a rebate? Not the estimator, the one I posted that knows exactly what you're getting.

Katie1
05-16-2008, 08:56 AM
Hello Kitty- Yes, I went to the site you posted, and both my SS# and DH's come up with no information available.

According to the estimator though, we are well with in the guidelines for getting the rebate.

eta- I re-checked my taxes and it turns out I did pay a fee to file through taxact, but I paid it with a CC and did not have it deducted from my refund.

Ours was direct deposited today!:)

MichelleRenee
05-16-2008, 09:02 AM
Sorry, Katie1. We too were relying on our direct deposit date only to find we have to wait for a check to be mailed June 13th. We actually relied on that money a little too much with some house repairs and ended up scrambling to pull money from savings to cover what we needed. I feel dumb for letting ourselves basically spend the check before we got it. Oh well. Lesson learned.

Katie1
05-16-2008, 12:36 PM
MichelleRenee- How did you find out that you are getting a paper check instead? My problem is that the IRS has info available for my SS#, which worries me. Their website gives no information on how to find out the status of your rebate if you don't fit into one of the scenarios in the FAQs. I can wait for the paper check, I just want to be sure it's coming.

MichelleRenee

I went to the website that allows you to check the status of your rebate. I entered our info and it said it had no info for us. This was also on the day we thought we were supposed to get the deposit. I came in here to ask about it and someone mentioned something about getting a paper check if your tax preparer took their fees out of yoru refund. That was what we did and we never got a direct deposit so I can only guess we are getting a check.

Got mine, in form of a paper check this past week. Not sure what to do about it though, because I am out of the country until August. Do those checks become void after 90 days or anything?

Do you have it in your possession (i.e. was your mail forwarded), or do you just know it's sitting back in the US? It should say on the face of the check if it has a "void after" date. If you have it (or can get it) and it will be void by the time you're back, you could always endorse it over to someone you trust, and have them deposit it and hold the $ for you. Or if you're an American Express customer, your local Amex office might cash it for you in $ or local currency. Or you could deposit it by mail to your bank back in the US.

I got my paper check a number of days ago. I don't know if the fact that I filed in January or February has anything to do with the timing, or if it was just my SS #, but, either way, I'm happy its here. :)

PAPER CHECK

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.

Please allow additional delivery time, perhaps 3 to 5 days, since the paper checks are being sent through the mail.

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be mailed no later than (and received a few days after):

00 through 09 May 16
10 through 18 May 23
19 through 25 May 30
26 through 38 June 6
39 through 51 June 13
52 through 63 June 20
64 through 75 June 27
76 through 87 July 4
88 through 99 July 11

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.

We are in the first group of paper checks and still have not received it, (we filed middle of February) though we received a letter on Tuesday saying we would receive it and how much. We leave for vacation tomorrow and I was hoping it would come before that, but oh well. Hopefully it will be here when we get back.

Got this from IRS.gov....

Q. I filed after April 15 and the payment date for my Social Security number has passed. How long will it take for me to get my stimulus payment?

A. It will generally take a minimum of six weeks after you file your return to get your stimulus payment.

Check the FAQs about the rebates at irs.gov. There is a link to a change of address form. I believe they said the change takes 4-6 weeks to process, so hopefully you can get it done before your check goes out. Don't know if they will be forwarding the checks or not.

If you filed a change of address with the post office, you should receive your check, the only thing when I moved that I never received was things like the local community paper and things that didn't have an address label, so things like the sales flyers and such. Mail I always received though.

I got a notice in the mail yesterday (picked it up today) telling me how much money I was getting and that I should receive it by the 23rd. WTF???? Way to waste a tree. Then, it proceeds to tell me even though I should get it by the 23rd, if I haven't gotten it within 6 weeks of receiving this letter to call.

Well from the amount of people posting in this thread that are unsure/confused about the amount they are getting, the method they will receive it, and when, I have a feeling that mailing greatly reduced the amount of calls to their service center.

There was something on the news Thursday that said there were like 250,000 checks that had gone out that they forgot to account for children. They said that a check would be sent out in July for the remainder of the amount, if you were one of those effected(sorry if I used the wrong one) by the mistake. I will see if I can find the story.

We received ours today via direct deposit. And we did NOT get a tax refund. We had to pay, and we did so in a diffierent manner than out Economic Stimulus $$ were received.

FYI, we did receive a notice via US Mail earlier this week that was flagged "ECONOMIC STIMULUS CHECK" on the outside envelope for the world to see, but was just a notice that it was coming. Um. Duh. We live in Chicago. The WORST US MAIL Delivery system in the country (it regularly takes 3 weeks to receive mail from Arizona), why, oh, why would you announce to our neighbors ANYTHING about a check we are about to receive???? Thank God for direct deposit.

It is made out to both DH and I and we don't have any joint accounts so I will have to go to his bank with him so they can check my signature on the check. We will actually split up the check. I get my 600, DH will get his 600 and DS will get his 300 deposited into his college fund. My 600 will go into investments as usual. I am pretty sure DH will do the same. We are pretty boring.
