A 700-pound grizzly bear attacked and killed a Canyon Country man Tuesday at a compound near Big Bear Lake that trains wild animals for movies and television work, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

For unknown reasons, the bear lunged at 39-year-old Stephan Miller, a trainer at Randy Miller's Predators in Action, about 3 p.m. and bit him in the neck, said sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Beavers.

Two other trainers subdued the 5-year-old, 7 1/2 -foot-tall grizzly with pepper spray and were unhurt, Beavers said. The Predators in Action website says the bear appears in the recent WiIl Ferrell movie "Semi-Pro."

Miller, cousin of Randy Miller, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's spokeswoman said.

The Dept. of Fish and Game are considering euthanizing "Rocky" the bear, but have not made a decision. The late trainer's colleagues want the State to spare the bear's life

I feel bad for the bear. I know that sounds hokey but...I hate it when people take wild animals, try to train the wild out of them, then kill them when they act like wild animals.

I feel badly for the bear too. I imagine the trainer was aware of the risk.

I remember Roy being very anti-euthanizing Manticore or whatever the name was of the tiger who chewed him up. Anyone know if he (the tiger) survived?

Gee, a wild animal used it's natural wild instincts. I'm so shocked! About as shocked as I am when my house cats attack my toes even though they're not aggressive.
