View Full Version : What Songs Are Stuck in Your Head
It might be the long car ride we were forced to undergo recently but...
Really...when I realized I was pregnant, even after she was born I was like
"I'm going to avoid all those children's videos and music, etc. No TV for her! For one thing she is better off without that dreaded packaged stimulation and for another, we will avoid the songs that get stuck in your head..."
FAMOUS LAST WORDS. OH, LORD I WAS SO FULL OF IT!!!
Now I have dozens of idiotic songs stuck in my head...but I really only let her watch ONE EPISODE OF BLUES CLUES which we did not buy but RENTED from the video store and SHE IS ADDICTED.
It isn't just sesame street and Boowa and Kwala. (Have you found Boowa and Kwala on the internet yet? It's the slippery slope for us that occurred when her dad had the stomach flu and was vomitiing and I needed to distract her to keep her from going up to him demanding BOOK! BOOK!)
Her favorite songs?
1. Three blind mice
2. Boowa and Kwala songs--especially the 'jungle' song
3. Oompa oompa from "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"--the old one
4. BLUES CLUES which she demands I sing to her constantly, over and over and over...
SO WHAT STUPID SONG DO YOU HAVE THAT'S PLAYING OVER AND OVER IN YOUR HEAD???
Now I see that this is all a part of parentnhood, and I"m (kind of) cool with it.
And actually, it's some ridiculous songs from the "Wizard of Oz" that are stuck in my head..."We represent the lullaby league," etc.

"My precious one" from the Celine Dion "Miracle" lullabies CD. I received THREE of them as baby gifts (and I don't even really like her all that much; it was just a new CD out at a time that I was pregnant). Anyway, when I was on maternity leave, I always played this CD in the car (I hesitated to play the real radio, which I do all the time now). Especially these lyrics:
"and in your dreams
you'll ride on angels' wings
dance with the stars
and touch the face of god"
I even wrote these lyrics in my journal because they spoke to me so much (and I'm not even that religious).

DD does not watch TV or videos but we listen to CD's in the car. For the life of me, I cannot get Old McDonald and the Hokey Pokey out of my head.
There is nothing worse than having a hard time falling asleep at night and having your brain sing "E-I-E-I-O!!!"

I'm actually a They Might Be Giants fan for real, so of course I bought the cds that they recently did for kids... and now I'll just be sitting there thinking, "I am a grocery bag".....
The 'Journey to Ernie' song from Sesame Street.
"Its Ernie...it's me. I'd know you anywhere...."

Yesterday I had a wiggles song about a pirate ship in a storm in my head all day. Sad thing was I had for the first time gotten to drive into work without listening to a child's CD since DH had driven DS in instead of me so that I could work late.

This is really bad.
I just have random sounds in my head. You know, the sound that various buttons and switches make on the exersaucer.
When that's not there, I have the theme music from the Family Guy playing.

it tends to be something wiggles in my head-some days are really bad. DD watches Higglytown heroes-ugh, when i hear their song about getting a hero, because it runs in my head for awhile.

Dora the Explorer theme song and the Caillou theme song. "D-D-D-Dora, D-D-D-Dora...."
A song from a Barney toy someone gave them for their birthday. "Clean-up, Clean-up, everybody do your part!"

Anything by the Wiggles. Every day I seem to have a new Wiggle song stuck in my head. DD loves to go over to the stereo, point, and say "Dance!". And if I dare play anything but the Wiggles, I'm told "No Mommy!" I find myself singing the songs while cooking dinner and cleaning. We need something new over here!
Oh no - now I'm thinking of the Wiggles songs!!! Big Red Car and Fruit Salad (yummy, yummy) are running through my head now. :D

"Hello, I'm Boowa. And I... am... Kwala! Boowa and Kwala, Boowa and Kwala we are, Boowa and Kwala... we are!"
EEEK! DH and I both had it going thru our heads one night and were singing it in bed!

Pretty much anything by the Wiggles. I can't wait for the Doodlebops to come out with a CD so that we can listen to something else in the car.
DH does it all the time too.. We were out to dinner without DS a while ago, and of course he broke into "Captain Feathersword" when the drink I ordered came with a garnish held together with a sword.

My DD will be 3 in Oct and my son will is almost 6 months.
Our current favorites that go through my head all day and night are:
Wheels on the bus
The Meatball Song (I don't know the real name)
"On top of spagheeeetiiiiii. All covered with cheeeeese. I lost by poor meeeatbaaall. When somebody sneeeeezed."
She loves that!
FWIW-I have no idea about any of the songs that most of you are talking about. DD has no interest in TV really. No cartoons in our house at all. I can rarely get her to sit down and watch an Elmo DVD. We have almost all of them, but I can't get her to watch them at all. I guess it's good she'd rather play with her toys and go outside, but sometimes I wish she'd watch a half hour video, leave her brother alone ;) and let me do something constructive, like laundry... :)

Currently I have that gawd awful song by the stupid ass Wiggles stuck in my head...."Bit by bit, little by little we're building it up. We're constructing a TV set. We need you help to build it too." I hate it!

Oh, lately, it's "Signing Time with Alex and Leah", although since they put the clips from baby signing time online and we've been watching them over and over it's "do the diaper dance" and "look at me, I'm on a boat"
Other big ones are "Laurie has a pig on her head" and "Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz"
There's another one that always gets stuck in my head, but I can't remember it right now. My brain must be trying to block it out.

The Wiggles are VERY popular at our house too.
"Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack, Cockadoodle Doo...." and of course "Fruit Salad, Yummy-Yummy"

*Bump* because I thought of this thread this morning when DH told me that he was singing the ABC song in the shower! :D
As for me, I have "ring around the rosy" in my head a lot these days because DD is learning to do it -- i.e. "we all fall.... down" -- and I sing it a lot to her.
ETA: I just read back through this thread and from August until now, many of the songs PP's have mentioned are now familiar to me (now that we watch Sesame Street more often, "Journey to Ernie" is VERY familiar; I've tried to get DD into the Wiggles a bit, but although she loves music, she hasn't gotten into that show too much).
