Can I cry?... Andrew is going to be one tomorrow!! :( Where did the year go? It is hard to believe that a year ago right now I was on my way to the hospital to be induced.
I was just thinking the same thing! Ellie's birthday is Sept. 6th and tonight DH and I were watching camcorder videos of her back when she was a tiny peanut. I was singing with her (she was singing uuuuhhhhh aahhhhh uuuhhhhh with me). It made me cry. :o

Happy 1st Birthday Andrew!!!!
Taurus~ Zach can not get on a schedule, no matter how hard I try. I successfully put the other two on a very predictable schedule but so far Zach has resisted it. It's making me NUTS!:p

Happy Birthday, Andrew!!!
Gage's is this Thursday. I started crying last week looking at invitation wording. I feel like a loser mom with his party. It's not going to be elaborate- just close friends and family over for grilled burgers and hot dogs. We haven't even talked about what DH and I are going to get him!
Taurus- we're kind of unscheduled around here, too. I guess I'm no help!

Happy Birthday Andrew!
I can't believe our babies are turning one. We just ordered Zoƫ's invitations this weekend. We are doing a rock star theme. Should be fun!
Taurus~ When I was at home over the summer we had a great schedule, but now things have gone to hell in a handbasket real quick. Daycare sucks!!! So don't feel bad. Zoė has been in bed by 6:45 every night since starting back due to refusal to sleep. Uggggg.

Jess71903- that is what we are doing for Sophia's birthday too, just family and some friends for a cookout and cake. I think the 1st birthday is more for the parents! We will get balloons and cute paper plates and such and a cute cake.

Happy 1st B-day Andrew!!!!!!!
We had Kevins party this past Saturday and for the first time ever...I had a party and it did not rain. We did a Monkey theme party and everything turned out perfect. We had about 55 people over with tons of food and lots of stuff for the kids to do.
Kevins actual b-day is Friday. I'm just so sad to see my baby grow up. I really want him to stay a baby forever since hes my last. I keep going over and over what I was doing this time last year waiting for him to arrive..thinking I had 3 weeks left when little did I knw he would be here in less than 5 days...

We are just having a simple BBQ with close friends/family. I didn't even send out invitations, just called and personally invited those that are coming. No gifts, Ellie has more than enough stuff already. I'll have a little smash cupcake for Ellie and cupcakes for the kids, but the actual dessert will be peach cobbler. I just don't have the energy right now to have a big party and Ellie couldn't care less. I'll save that for next year when she's old enough to really enjoy it.
How funny, we are getting a wagon too! A Radio Flyer ATW (http://www.ridingtoys.com/tricycles-and-wagons/wagons/radioflyerallterraincargowagon.cfm#accessories).

Have you found it any cheaper than this one? I haven't, so if you know of an online or retail store selling them cheaper let me know. Otherwise we are going to order it from this site. I have kept an eye out on Craigslist but never seen this model on there used.
We go to a 3 day festival, the Oregon Country Fair, every year and we've seen these wagons all over with kids looking comfy and napping. We are going to get the canopy too so we can decorate it with flowers, ribbons etc. People turn the wagons into little floats to carry the kids/cooler etc. around in.

Thanks for the replies re: schedules. Just one more week until we HAVE to find a schedule since we have to be out the door 3 days/week to take DS1 to school. DS2 gets one more week and then I'm cracking down--no more sympathy! ;)
I can't believe the birthdays have started. We aren't until the end of Sept, but I just can't believe it. I had a very different first year with this one than my first son and sort of have whiplash from the past year flying by in seemingly constant chaos, ha ha!

Funny! We're getting Madeleine a wagon too -- the Radio Flyer Walker wagon, since we don't have a lot of outdoor space and it's smaller. She's walking all over the place without any help though, right now.
I'm sad my baby is growing up! She's such a little independent thing!

She's walking all over the place without any help though, right now.
I think I can say that Ellie "learned how to walk" yesterday. She's been working on it, taking 5-6 steps, falling, taking 3-4 steps, repeat, etc. and her sleep has been iffy, waking at night a LOT in the last week or so (the whole cognative development thing) after STTN for over 2 weeks straight. Well, the last 2 nights she STTN for the first time in over a week and at Grandmas yesterday she suddenly began just, well, walking. She was much more steady, less hesitant and didn't fall hardly at all!! I think over the last 2 nights something in her head went "click!" and she figured it out. The same thing happened when she finally "got it" and started crawling. She just woke up one morning and off she went.
I'm sad my baby is growing up! She's such a little independent thing!
Me too! She doesn't snuggle as much now, even at bedtime. She used to fall asleep in my lap all the time and now she finishes her bottle and wants to go in her crib and put herself to sleep :( I know, I know, it's great that she can (and wants to) put herself to sleep but I miss the snuggles!!

Man, I haven't checked in in a while. We were away for 2.5 weeks, and I've been busy.
Daniel's not walking. He's not crawling either. If I remember, I'm going to get an Early Intervention eval for him soon. He doesn't stand either. (Noah did the same thing, and finally walked at 19 months, but he was crawling by this point.)
He's a great baby though. He's got so many signs, and he's started waving too. He loves to dance. And he loves to eat! We had to buy him his own meal tonight at Boston Market, because last time we went, he ate so much of mine I was still hungry! The boy's a pig. I'm not sure where he puts it, because he still fits in 3-6 m clothes.
His birthday party is rapidly approaching. I'm pretty much done planning and buying, aside from a few more paper plates, oh, and I have to remember to go order the food! Oops. Guess a trip to costco is in order :)
He's developing quite a temper too! He's really good at tantrums, and it's really annoying.

Landen cruises all over but lacks any confidence to walk. He walks with our hands though. And he has stood for about 10 sec on his own before realizing what he was doing. We've been done w/ baby food and bottles for almost 2 months now. He's a picky eater though. He'll eat just about anything but only if he's in the mood. Monday he loves avocado, Tuesday it's yuck. He is talking so much though, it's scary!
Examples, my sister was feeding him some fresh fruit salad and he kept taking it out of his mouth, smooshing it and handing it back to her. And then, clear as day, he said, "I didn't want to eat." We all heard that and just looked at him, not believing our ears. I nursed him during the night and he was up a short while later and I tried nursing him again and he said, "Full." I was picking out his clothes for a wedding and had him in one outfit and was debating another and asking DH when Landen said, "I look good." So I left him in that, lol!
BFing mamas - anyone weaning or thinking about it? I'm not sure. Landen isn't very attached to it so I don't think he'd miss it. I think he'd rather drink from a cup like his brother. I have a huge freezer stash so he could be on EBM for a few months yet probably. But I nursed DS1 for 18 months and wanted to do the same for DS2. I'm just getting over my first bought w/ mastitis so I'm not so in love with BFing at the moment.

I was only able to BF for 2 weeks so I'm not an expert by any means so take my comments with a grain of salt. I would think that at this age if he is not that into it then it's really up to you to decide if YOU want to keep doing it. Health wise he will be just fine without it, especially if you can keep giving him EBM in a sippy or cup instead of milk.
I am only giving formula to DD 2x a day in the morning (in a sippy cup) and at bedtime in a bottle. She gets goats milk in a bottle for her nap and water in a sippy the rest of the time. I am not in a big hurry to eliminate the bottle since it's only 2x a day at sleep time. If she was using a bottle all the time, in public, for comfort etc. I would be more inclined to wean her off of it sooner. DD has a history of giving up things on her own as she is ready (swaddle, binky, etc) so I'll just follow her cues.

Kiley--OMG, if DS2 said a sentence like that I think I would freak out! I can't even imagine something like that coming out of his tiny body; that's amazing!
Emschwar--DS2 is the same. Often eats more table food than my 2.5 year old. I usually can't put it on the plate fast enough. Yet he is also tiny--I am just now putting away the 3 month shorts.
Weaning: I will be away from DS2 for the weekend before his birthday and I would not be going if I were not okay with it affecting our nursing. We still nurse about 5 times during the day, but I am pretty confident that if I am not around then he will be fine. When I am around though, it's a different story. He does great when left with various family members, taking bottles from DH, etc. But when I walk in the door, he turns on the tears. My mom says she swears he hears my car pull in the driveway and then turns on a dime! He will be with DH while I am away and I will pump, but if he loses interest while I'm gone I will not be upset. I am just thrilled we made it this far, and I don't 100% love the demands of BFing.

WOW! Crazy awesome verbal skills on that one of yours! That's awesome!
We are nowhere close to being done nursing. Gage can go quite a while without nursing during the day if we are busy, but he is still very dependent on nursing. I don't see us being done any time soon, and frankly, I'm not ready to let go yet either.
Gage turned 1 yesterday! We are having his little party tomorrow. I just can't believe it! He also got to go to his 1st football game yesterday. Our UCA bears were playing the 1st game of the season and we went. It's the college Tony and I went to and where Tony played 4 years of college football. It was cool to get to take Gage. It was hot and Gage got sleepy, but it was fun. We tried to go to a game last year, but the one we decided to go to was the day he ended up being admitted to the hospital with the shunt infection, so we didn't make it.

weaning - not here, not any time soon, though it crosses my mind occasionally. Since he can't digest soy or milk yet, I don't have a choice (well, I could wean him to hypoallergenic formula, but that's stupid). When he can drink soy, we'll consider it, but I'm not sure when we'll do it. Though at this point, I really want some new bras! The nursing bras I have now are the ones I wore with Noah and they do NOT fit, but I'm not about to go out and spend $ on more nursing bras!

I'm typing this as I listen to the ocean from our hotel room. It's our first family vacation the three of us. Ellie did great on the 3 hour drive here. She slept for an hour and played the rest of the time. We took a break at Dairy Queen half way for an ice cream (for me) and diaper change (for her). The hotel has an indoor pool so regardless of weather we can go swimming every day since DD is a little fishy and LOVES the water. The hotel room we have is a suite with a kitchenette and separate bedroom for her (and me if DH snores too much  ). With her PNP from grandmas house, her lovey bear and her familiar pink night light she crashed out without so much as a peep. We'll see if she STTN or wakes up a little freaked out because she is not at home or grandmas house. Since she sleeps at grandmas and at Susans regularly I don't think she is going to care too much.
The weather is going to be cool here, but sunny, so I think we will have a good time in the sand even if it's not really warm. We brought the all terrain stroller and back pack carrier so we can take beach walks either way.
On another note, there is an outlet mall here and they are having a huge labor day sidewalk sale...hehe :p I told DH that since we won't be going to the casino this trip like we do when we don't have DD that I can use the "fun money" to go shopping. He looked at me and rolled his eyes, but didn't say no...;) DD needs some long sleeved layering shirts and some basic long pants for winter, and Mama needs a new pair of shoes...hehe. :D

Wow, everyone just sort of dropped off the face of the internet over labor day weekend! Either that or I'm the biggest thread killer EVER! ;)
I had to update about our beach trip. I went to the outlet mall and spent $200 on fall clothing/PJs for DD, 2 shirts and a pair of jeans for me and a shirt for DH. DH watched DD for 3 1/2 hours while I shopped. So, he got to go to the casino that night when DD went to bed. Well, he came back 3 hours later with $200 more than he left with!! :D All of my shopping was free. :)

2 Crazy Pugs~ Hard to believe isn't it. It seems like yesterday I was pregnant.
Zoƫ has finally started walking in the past few weeks. She isn't doing it all the time because she has figured out she is much quicker crawling. Her new favorite thing to do is for me to chase her around the house. She laughs so hard! She still is a picky eater, only hard things and her purees. She is finally starting to take naps at daycare though they have to rock her to sleep. She still only has the bottom two teeth. She is as fun as can be!

TracyDP - I'm so glad you enjoyed the beach trip! The shoes your DD is wearing are adorable, can I ask where you got them?
Olivia has started walking in the past week. She is up to 4 or 5 steps at a time. She still crawls if she is in a hurry, but more and more, she is choosing to walk. She also was terribly sick last week with a tummy bug that she managed to pass on to me, my DH and my mom! Thankfully, we're all better now but that was not a fun week at all. However, since she didn't eat much during that time and what she did eat, she threw up, she has been up once or twice a night for the past two weeks. Last night she made it all the way through, finally!

TracyDP - I'm so glad you enjoyed the beach trip! The shoes your DD is wearing are adorable, can I ask where you got them?
Wal-Mart for $3.88 :) They are probably on clearance right now for even cheaper. Great shoes though, DD was able to walk in them just fine on the beach even though she's still a little wobbly and they fit her fat little feet better than almost any other shoe I've tried on her. Sorry to hear about the stomach flu. I live in fear of it because throwing up is the WORST. I'd rather have 10 colds than one stomach flu.
It's about time for a new thread in the 12-36m forum, we should come up with the name for it.
Maybe "Sept Moms: Anyone know where to get babygates cheap?!?!" lol  Just kidding. Sort of.
DD had her 1 yr appointment yesterday. 22lbs, 30.5in and healthy as can be. She's in the 50% for weight still and now in the 95% for height. Tall girl. She is as tall or taller than the 15 and 18m olds in our playgroup. She didn't even cry at all when she got her shots and her heel prick. She just gave me this very matter-of-fact look that said "Ow. that hurt". :p

Landen's party is this weekend. Hope it goes well. He's not walking and hasn't taken any steps yet either. DS1 walked full-time at 13 mo. He's talking a lot though. I can't keep track of all his words/phrases. It still blows my mind. Although, nothing is very consistent. He has started practicing in the toddler room at daycare. He'll be the youngest by a few months and the only crawler but I think he'll do fine as he's used to older kids and he's tough. :)
Not sure what we are getting him for his bday, probably nothing for now until we know what he needs after his party.
Sleeping - still not really STTN. He's up around 10pm to nurse and then 5am to nurse. He's given up most nursing during the day, he's just too busy. I think he's still nursing 4 times in 24 hours.

It's been a rough week. Ellie's 1st birthday was great but it all went downhill from there. By Tuesday we were in the peds office because of a raunchy cough. Croup. :( Yay. Totally my fault for telling the ped at her 1yr appointment how healthy she's been  I should learn to keep my big mouth shut. This means I missed my Tuesday babysitter, going into croup already strung out and tired after a week of birthday prep and cleaning and no break from the kiddo.
Then Friday just as DD was starting to feel better from the croup (though still cranky and sleep deprived) she took a header into our coffee table (lower shelf part) and got a 1/4 inch cut next to her right eye and quite a shiner. Luckily, no worse injury (thank god) but it just about gave me a heart attack. I felt like the worst Mom ever because seconds before she fell I thought to myself "I should get her out of that laundry basket before she...." SMACK. I felt horrible. :(
It was probably the last nice hot weekend of summer and DD's still recovering, DH is coming down with it now so we've spent it in the house. I need a glass of wine and a long soak in the hot tub while I say a prayer that grandma will be able to watch Ellie next weekend overnight. I hope everyone else is having a great late summer weekend without croup, nearly serious eye injury, sick DH or too much stress. :)

excerpt from my blog...
my sweet alex.
today is your birthday, you are ONE year old. i thank God for bringing you to our lives.
at one year old, you...
shake your shoulders instead of your head when you don't like something.
have a quiet, observant look when you're in a new situation. like you're studying the scene around you
wiggle your butt from side to side when you hear music.
hate bananas. i still don't understand how you can eat everything else we give you, yet bananas make you gag. (sorry for continuing to give you tastes of it, i think it's funny!)
love to push toy cars around
aren't walking on your own yet, but sure can crawl fast.
know which remote control is the "real" one.
try to climb on ryan's back as if he could carry you.
are getting so BIG!
i love you very much...

Andrew took his first two steps on Tuesday. He would have probably kept going but he tripped on the bottom of his pajama pants.
Has anyone been able to ditch the bottle completely yet? I have gotten him to drink whole milk out of his straw sippy cups during the day and then he has a bottle at bedtime. He STILL isn't SSTN and I usually wind up giving him a bottle to get him back to sleep. I stopped giving him milk in the middle of the night and give him water instead. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Also, how in the world do you go anywhere for extended periods of time when your kid is on whole milk? Most places don't have whole milk and then we wind up having to find a convenience store or gas station to get milk. Anyone know how long milk can go without being refridgerated? I know with formula you have 1-2 hours once it is made.

Our DS1 was on goat's milk for 1.5 years so that was even harder for us! We'd just pack a cooler bag and bring our own wherever we went. If we went to grandma's we just put it in the fridge. We bought a 1qt rubbermaid container that we kept it in with ice packs.
Yay for taking steps! Landen is a ways off from this. I would guess by 13 mo he'll have taken some steps.

suzly - milk can be out of the fridge for 4 hours (at room temp) before you have to pitch it. When I took sippies of milk with us for Noah, I'd either use insulated cups (there are some you can freeze so it keeps the milk cold longer - I think munchkin makes them) or I'd bring a bottle cooler. Or just buy milk at McD's or starbucks or something.
We just had our intake meeting (I think that's what it was called) with Early Intervention. Daniel qualified for services. I was kind of hoping he would, just so he'd get the help, but I'm kind of dismayed at how far behind he really is. Turns out the things I thought he did well (sitting, playing) he's doing wrong (he sits too far back on his hips and is rounding his back, he only reaches with his right hand and shouldn't be showing a preference at this age). They come back in 2 weeks for a "paperwork" meeting, and then he'll start getting PT.

suzly - milk can be out of the fridge for 4 hours (at room temp) before you have to pitch it. When I took sippies of milk with us for Noah, I'd either use insulated cups (there are some you can freeze so it keeps the milk cold longer - I think munchkin makes them) or I'd bring a bottle cooler. Or just buy milk at McD's or starbucks or something.
Don't places like McDonald's and other restaurants only have 2% milk? I haven't been able to find a place besides a convenient store or gas station that has whole milk. That is good to know that milk can be out of the fridge for 4 hours. Thanks!

Suzlywoozly-
We have ditched the bottle altogether. Sophia hasn't had one or wanted one for about 3 weeks now. She just wants her sippy cup. She was having a bottle at night, but the doctor told me that if she really didn't care, then stop the bottle, because it would just be harder to ditch it the older she got. She only has her sippy cup at daycare also. She gets her sippy cup of milk before bed. She is very laid back and a very easy baby, she could care less about the bottle. I actually took them all and threw them away (because of the BPA stuff).
As for the milk and going out- I usually put it in an insulated cup. If we are going to my parents or to my in-laws, they will usually get whole milk to have on hand while we are there.

Bottle: Ellie still likes her bottle for nap and bedtime, usually 4oz of goats milk or whole cows milk for nap, and toddler formula for bedtime...little extra nutrition. I give her 4oz of milk in the morning in her sippy cup, and I don't even take a bottle with us anymore when we go out, just the sippy. The ped asked at her 1yr appt about the bottle and told me I should be weaning her off of it ASAP. I asked her if she would tell me the same thing if I were still breast feeding 2x a day and she kind of looked at me and said "Huh, I guess not". I told her it was "snuggly time" for me and DD and I wasn't in a huge hurry to stop just yet. If DD was using her bottle for comfort and carting it around all.the.time, crying for it etc. I would be more inclined to work harder to get her off of it. I never let her have it in her crib or carry it around, its ONLY for sleepy time on my lap. Occasionally she is so tired she pushes the bottle away and just wants in bed. She has shown in the past that she gives things up as she is ready (paci, swaddling, sucking her thumb...which she hardly ever does anymore either).
I haven't had any problem with milk while traveling since I don't usually give her anything but water to drink when we are out and about. I did buy one of These Straw Cups (http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=534708&cmSource=CrossSell&relatedProductId=534491) for when I do want to take milk or juice along, but for now I've been the one using it for my own water and I have to say..it really does keep it cold all day! I wouldn't hesitate to put cold milk in it and give it to her while out doing errands or whatever. She hasn't quite figured out straws yet though, she just chews on them. I considered buying the sippy version but at $17 I figured the straw cup would last much longer in the long run.
Here in the pacific northwest there is a coffee drive-thru cart/shop on every corner so finding whole milk isn't an issue. I have asked for some whole milk in her sippy 2 times when I bought my morning coffee and both times they didn't charge me for it. Might just be that particular coffee place, I'll have to try it somewhere else and see if they charge me.

Zach refuses to drink regular milk, but he'll take half milk-half formula. And he refuses to drink it out of a sippy. Water in a sippy is fine. If I give him a sippy full of milk he looks at me like I've lost my mind. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that. We're still working on getting over a cold, so I'll deal with it once we're all well.
Zach loved his cake!

I hope you have a great time Disneygirl! DH and I have gone to Las Vegas for vacation a couple of times, and my Mom lives in St George UT and LV is the nearest airport so I fly in there all the time.
If you are inclined to see a show I would HIGHLY suggest the Cirque De Soleil Beatles show at the Mirage. WOW! I didn't really care if we went (DH is a huge Beatles fan) but I had such a great time, it was really worth it. The Elemis Spa at the Aladdin gives a great pedicure. It's $45 but you get to use all of the other spa facilities (whirlpool, sauna, steam room, snack area w/ magazines fresh fruit, juice, tea, coffee, comfy couches) for free all day. I always go about an hour early to hang out and steam, then get my pedicure and go hang out in the lounge w/ some coffee, and apple and a people magazine while I dry :D

Noah was evaluated by them when he was 15 months (but didn't qualify). Daniel's motor skills are even more delayed than Noah's were, so I wanted to get him checked out. (He doesn't crawl, can't get himself into a sitting position from lying, can't stand, can't pull up, etc.)

We made it through with only minor scars too (literally...Ellie still has a red mark next to her eye where she took a header into the coffee table 2 weeks ago).
I think we all deserve a big pat on the back for making it through alive, well and (reasonably) happy :)
I'm bumming today because I bought a pair of awesome chocolate brown corderoy overalls for Ellie at Osh Kosh a couple of weeks ago and I put them on her today. SO cute with a pink/brown long sleeve onsie and her pink camo pedipeds. ALREADY TOO SMALL!! She is tall and apparently all torso because they fit her legs perfectly but every time she sits down or bends over she pops the snaps in the crotch. So, if I go up a size the legs will drag on the ground (hard to roll up due to snaps on the ankles). It sucks, I loved those overalls. Looks like I might have to stick to overall-jumpers and tights or leggings this winter. Problem is they don't sell the brown corderoy in a jumper since they are boys overalls. :(

Tracy -- I had some fabulous clothes we received as gifts that were just seasonally inappropriate -- a dear friend gave us these darling tea collection knit overalls that didn't fit her until summertime (and summertime in Los Angeles is no time for footed knit overalls!) and now are too small. And we have a bunch of dresses that would have fit her during the crawling stage (now she's in the RUNNING stage) and we didn't put on her because she would trip.

I know, that sucks. I've had a few gifts like that too. Luckily I have a friend with a baby that is opposite season from mine size wise, so I was able to give them to her. Bummer though is that I have a boat load of summer size 12m stuff that won't do her any good since her baby will be 12m size over the winter.
I do have one thing I'm looking forward to using though. My Mom bought DD a pair of flannel lined jeans in 12m size before DD was even born and as luck would have it, they are a very large 12m and will fit her in the dead of winter just when we want to go play in the snow. :) Any suggestions on where to find cheap winter type boots? No shoes DD has now will work in a snow situation, but we won't be using them much so I'm not willing to pay the big $$ for the (OMG super CUTE) snow boots in the LL Bean catalog
And yup, we have a runner here too...and a climber, which is just fan-freakin'-tastic. I am going to have to get rid of the eliptical machine in our living room. She has learned how to climb up on it "just like mommy". So far she has also figured out how to get down, but I know it's only a matter of time before she takes a header off of it.
I don't remember if I posted one of her 1 yr portraits. We got this one of her with her lovey bear and it turned out to be by far the cutest one. She can't sleep without that bear, it's her best friend.

He loves therapy. There's a lot going on for him to watch. He gets excited when he sees his therapist. The boy is SO close to crawling. I feel like I have been saying that forever.
He has really taken off with signing and mimicking sounds.
Signs: milk, more, please, eat, all done, bye-bye and hi, dog/Katie, up, drink, touchdown
words: Mama, Daddy ("Dee"), meow, up, bye-bye, night-night,
Yesterday Wheel of Fortune came on after the news. He sat and watched it and clapped when the audience clapped. Then someone called out the letter "D" and he sat there yelling "D!, D!". He watched an old episode of Signing Time yesterday while I took a hot bath. It was a bunch of signs that he knows. When he heard a word he knew, it would catch his attention and he would sign it with them. Too cute!
Here is Gage's last tiger pic, taken on his birthday. We were going to Gage's first football game that evening and he is wearing the shirt I made him.

Happy Birthday to all our LO:)
I am still in shock that my little one is over a year old now. I get teary eyed thinking about it. Her party was a lot of fun. We did a rock star theme. I had blow up guitars and bubbles in guitar necklaces for favors and just had subs and salads for lunch. We did the party from 11-2. She was a champ through it all and even took her two naps. She would not eat any part of her cake which doesn't surprise me. She is a picky eater, though getting better. She has been walking for about a month now. She is getting really good at it, and can even turn when she is walking. She is starting to sleep longer at night (about 11 hours instead of 10). And she is on sippy cups of whole milk now.
If you are on milk, do you give your child milk at the three meals? I have been giving Z milk when she wakes up since she doesn't eat breakfast at daycare until 8. Then milk at 10:30. Lunch at 12:30 with water to drink. Snack and milk at 2:30. Dinner and water at 5:30 then milk at 6:45 and off to bed by 7:00. Should I change so she is getting milk with her meals? What does your schedule look like?
And are you giving you LO tuna yet? I want to try some from the can to try to expand her foods.

Milk: I give Ellie goats milk in the morning in her sippy (4oz), at naptime in her bottle (4oz) and she gets 4 oz of formula in her bedtime bottle. She gets an extra 4oz of GM at her afternoon nap, if she takes one.
I still give her a bottle at nap/bedtime and don't plan on stopping just yet. I figure no one cares if at 12m women still BF 2-3 times a day at naps/bedtime etc. so why should it matter if I give her a bottle for some snuggly time or comfort? She does not carry it around, never has it in the crib with her...it is only with her on my lap before going to sleep (just like nursing would be).
Fish: We haven't done fresh fish yet, but she has had tuna casserole (loved it) and the fake krab (not so much). She did like the chunks of sushi roll (the ones with fake krab "salad" in the rice roll) so I might try krab or tuna with a little mayo and see if she likes that.

TracyDP - You've mentioned that your DD loves the Trader Joes Turkey Meatballs. I'm looking for a do it herself meat for Olivia and wondered if the meatballs were fresh or frozen. Also, how to you prepare them for her? TIA!
They are frozen but fully cooked. I usually take out a package for our own dinner and take out 3 meatballs for Ellie's meals the next few days. I keep them in the fridge thawed out then microwave them 20-30 seconds and cut them up into bite size pieces (whatever that means to you). She usually eats 1/2 at one meal, but if she's starving she has eaten a whole one. It kind of depends on what else I'm serving with it or if she needs more protein because she's eaten nothing but fruit and cheerios for breakfast. I put a little of our spaghetti sauce on the cut up pieces because she likes the taste and it's fun to eat when it's messy (of course).
If you want to keep them around just for Olivia then I'd put them in a ziplock after opening the package and keep them in the freezer. You microwave them for around 1min if frozen, either that or just take 2-3 out in the morning and keep them in the fridge. They stay good for about 3 days thawed in the fridge. I've served them to her plain plenty of times and she still loves them.
DD still stuffs the whole (insert food here) into her mouth at once so we are working on taking bites now. I will often hold something for her and let her take a bite (chicken stick, banana chunk, fruit, sweet potato fry, etc) so she gets the hang of it. She has completely mastered picking up her own food though, and can easily pick her favorite bits out from the other stuff on her tray. I have started serving her the least favorite thing first, then the other stuff so she will eat the less appealing thing.

Super cute curious george stuff! I have that same high chair (FP space saver) and the best thing we ever did was strap that thing to my DH's old office chair. Now it has wheels and turns 360* making it super convenient around the kitchen.
Latest new skills: Yesterday while "reading" one of her Busy Baby books I said "where's the kitty? Point to the kitty." and she DID!! She looked at the page for a few seconds and just as I was about to take her hand and point for her she pointed to the cat and said "ki-tee" :D
Later that night we were reading her 5 noisy frogs book and she pointed to the both the frog and bug when asked! It is so amazing how some idea or skill just "clicks" and one minute they can't do something and the next minute they can.
She is also following "pointing" now, meaning I can point to something and look at it and she will follow with her eyes. I pointed to her blue lovey bear on the floor this morning and said "where's lovey bear? Can you go get lovey bear?" and pointed to it. She looked at me, followed where I was pointing and ran over and picked up the bear. It really blows my mind how much development can happen in just one year.

Very cute pic! Sophia is almost exactly the same size as Ellie. She was 22.3lbs and 30.5 inches at her 1yr, she weighed in at 23lbs today and is about 31 inches (previously fitting pants suddenly are too short).
She was at the ped today getting checked for an ear infection. Its been a rough week w/ sick kid and yesterday she started pulling/touching her ear. The croup was easier than this long drawn out "common cold" crap. I'm counting the hours until my BFF comes on Saturday to watch DD for the day. I am SO out of here. DH is on call so he can't watch her but I NEED to have a break.
I feel bad because for 2 nights we had to let Ellie CIO while she was sick :( She just didn't want consoling, wouldn't stay on our laps, had a stuffy nose and was just frustrated, over tired (rough napping) and pissed off. She wanted a bottle but couldn't enjoy it because of the stuffy nose so that just made her madder. I finally had to just let her cry. I put a sippy of water in her crib, made sure she had her bear and let her go. The first night I kept checking on her and it just got her screaming again so I finally just left her alone. 20 min of screaming/crying, 30 min of whining, 10 min of talking/singing, then out for the night. Poor thing. :(

Well Sophia had her first incident at daycare. When I went to pick her up yesterday her teacher said that one of the other kids pinched her on the face- she has 2 marks from it. And then, they were outside playing in a plastic house thing, and Sophia was standing looking out the window, and one of the other kids in her class shut the window (mind you its plastic) on her finger. They never tell you which child did it, and I know its not the last time, and I know she will probably do something in the future, but I was SO UPSET to think that my baby girl got hurt by someone else (even a child her age) and I was not there to comfort her. Even though, her teacher said it was like it never happened to her, it happended, she cried a little, they iced it (both times) and it was over for her in a minute or so.
I have been thinking about her all day hoping that today was a better day for her, because she LOVES going to daycare.

Hello September 07 Mommies!
Happy (belated) Birthday to all the Little One's! I hope your birthday's were filled with wonderful memories.
Life has been so flippin' crazy around here. We had the hardest time getting into a routine with DS going to school 5 days a week starting at 7:55 till 10:45. The boy just fights every stinking thing you ask him to do. Get dressed. Eat. Brush teeth. Get shoes/coat/backpack. URGH. Everything does not need to be such a battle! Then we started the hockey season the same week school started. He's the youngest by 1.5 yrs out of 50 kids in the Mite program and there's been alot of proactive discussions with coaches, other parents and teammates. He's a typical 4 y/o but the older kids were treating him like a pest or a baby brother. Once they knew he was 4 everyone was a bit more tolerant.
ANYWAYS (;)), Anna Carmella is doing just great. She's not screaming at people anymore, she's quite vocal, just started to walk a couple days ago, and has finally gotten back into her crib for naps & bedtime. Though she usually doesn't sleep all night in her crib, she winds up with us for part of the night. She still only has 3 teeth on the bottom, is off bottles & has finally started drinking whole milk, but only if it has strawberry Quick mixed in. :p She loves food, loves water, and still thinks her brother is the best! She cracks us up everyday.
1 year stats:
Weight: 25 lbs 15 ozs (she actually lost an oz from the previous week!)

I can't remember the head circ but I'm sure it's following her curve.
We haven't gotten her 1 yr pics yet since we decided to use the photographer that did her 8 week shots. She'll be here on Nov. 15. I am so excited to have her doing the pictures. She was great.
Here is a pic of the princess on her b-day. I'm so bummed because I didn't get any pics of her in her actual b-day dress, just the shirt we got her to eat cake in. And before anyone rolls their eyes at her tiara, that was my MIL. She's totally goofy about the girly stuff.

And then lastly, Niko & Anna are both going to be big siblings on June 15 (or thereabouts). We had been SWH since July and won't you know it, Anna's b-day comes around and we celebrate by adding another one. We are both very excited!
I hope you all and your families are doing well.

Life has been so flippin' crazy around here.
I know what you mean! our schedule has gone from busy to absolutely insane. Noah has school 4 afternoons a week, which is fantastic, I love it. But now Daniel is getting physical therapy 1-2x a week, and I'm starting my own photography business, so now my weekends are crammed with photo stuff, and my evenings are full of proofing and website building and all that, plus we're getting into the busy season for Discovery Toys, so I'm having to devote time to that, AND I volunteered to do election stuff, so I'm busy doing that until election day. I'll be glad when this month is over.
We got Daniel's report on his Early Intervention evaluation. He's got a 6 month delay in gross motor skills . His muscle tone is so so weak. His trunk isn't strong enough to hold him up properly when he sits, and his head is so big that he falls over a lot when he's sitting. The PT saw him topple the other day and it scared her - she said he could easily hurt his head or his neck when he fell, which was something I had never thought of. We have to up his tummy time a lot, which he hates, so he can strengthen his arms and his torso. He's got a lot of work ahead of him.

Oh Em, I did read awhile back that Daniel had some delays. I'm sure you have some great therapists to help him get on track. Congrats on the photog business. Your pictures are really great (those are yours, no?). I hear ya on being busy. I volunteered myself to be Vice President of DS's Mother's Club as well as a Children's Liturgy Leader with our parish. Bucktown~Congrats to you!
I too have had the baby thoughts, though we are still not sure if we want another. We would love one, but the cost of two is just a little much (daycare), and then the thought of doing IVF and Lovenox shots everyday,
Zoƫ is going through the mommy stage right now. I always said I wished for a snuggly baby, but now I wish for a 5 minute break. She also is 100% on sippy cups of whole milk, though I have a call into the ped. office. Since she started milk her constipation is back. She farts all day long and then poops tiny little pellets. It makes for one grumpy baby. I bet they are going to tell me to go with lactose free milk. She is still a picky eater but getting better by the week. She still boycotts all fruits unless they are the freeze dried bits, then loves them. In two weeks she moves up to the toddler room at daycare which I am super happy about. She sleeps like sh*t in the infant room because they are all on different schedules, lights are on, and babies are crying. Once she goes to that room she will have a nap from 12:30 - 2:30 with the lights out and soft music playing. She is such a great napper and sleeper at home, so hoping this routine sits better with her. I am taking her today to get her one year pictures taken:)

Yeah, I am pretty sure I want a sibling for Ellie, but I'm not so sure I want to go through pregnancy again. I had such a horrible experience with the herniated intestine and surgery that the whole idea is just too anxiety-inducing right now. I will have my yearly appt with my OB next month and I'll talk to him about it. But, I think it is much more likely that in a year or so DH and I will talk about being foster parents with the intent to adopt a toddler or young child. It will be a big adjustment for Ellie but then again, so would a baby. DH and I are both only children and really want some sibling for Ellie so she doesn't grow up alone like we did.

That made me LOL :p I'm 37 and DH is 41 (and we just had our FIRST) so I am right there with you. I'm torn because my pregnancy was a total breeze (I never even threw up...not once). Labor was horrible but only because we didn't know that my intestine was dying which was making me nauseous and throwing up. We all just thought it was a bad labor. Delivery was less than 20 minutes of pushing and we were done (I knew I'd been lugging these hips around for SOME reason all these years...). If you take the intestinal troubles out of the equation it would have been a comparitively easy pregnancy/labor/delivery and I would do it again in a hot minute.
But now, I don't know. I have trouble keeping my weight stable w/o being pregnant and I am not sure if I would be able to eat enough to support 2. I am afraid if I did get pregnant again my OB would have me on bedrest or close to it for the final months and with a toddler that would be so hard. I think I may reserve absolute decision for after I talk to my OB. If we decide I'm done I'll probably look into getting DH under the knife, though I'm using a Mirena IUD right now and it is working great so I may just stick with that for now. Anyway, sorry to ramble. I've just had all this bumping around in my head for the last few weeks and hadn't talked about it much.

With the cost of daycare for 2, is there any way it would be possible to quit working or go part time with some creative financing? I know the cost of daycare just for one was enough to make my working not really worth it.

We'll have 1 more, but it'll be a while. My rule is the baby has to be out of the crib and out of diapers before the next comes along. Noah was 3.5 when Daniel was born, and that's a pretty good spacing to me.

nope we're done. I always said "2, maybe 3". DH started wanting a 4th when I was pg with DD but changed his mind afterwards. However a bit of the baby bug has been nagging at me lately but I know at 36 I do NOT want to go through pregnancy, postpartum and lack of sleep again. So I'm done. No matter how much baby bug I get. I'm looking forward to getting sleep again and DH going back to work so he quits whining about money he's not making (he's a SAHD).

TracyDP-
To be completely honest, I am not cut out to be a SAHM. I like my job, my boss, my co-workers. And that makes me feel guilty also.
I completely understand that and I'm sorry if I brought up guilt. That was certainly not my intent. If I had liked all those things it would have been much harder for me to give my job up. As it was the job bored me, my boss was a joke and I didn't much care for my co-workers  I also live a full hour commute one way from my work so DD would have been in daycare for a minimum of 10 hours a day. On my income I could have maybe bought a latte with what would be left after daycare and gas/commuting expenses.
That said, if I lived near my MIL so she could watch DD and my commute was more like 15 minutes, I would probably go back part time for the extra $$ and adult conversation. For now, I'll have to make due with e-bay and playgroups. There are MANY days I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a SAHM either, but right now I really don't have any other options that would be worth it. I hope to start school next spring so that when I DO go back to work I can do something I want to rather than a job I ended up in because I didn't finish school. Unfortunately with the economy going down the toilet it looks like I'm going to be stuck out here in the boonies longer than I had hoped. I'm a city girl and this rural living is really getting to me.

So I can't figure out how to put in a picture of my son using flickr....not sure why but maybe the rules have changed since I haven't been here in such a long time. Anyway, I tried to put a link to a flickr slideshow. I'm going to see if that worked.
The pictures are going in reverse order. The one on the swing was in May....everything after that was probably already posted here.
I don't even know my son's current stats, but he's walking and talking up a storm. His favorite words are "dada" and "towel," as well as "baba" of course. He is just such a love, I can't get enough of him. I think he's about 22.5 pounds and 29.5 inches, according to his last appointment.
I just started a new school year (i'm a teacher) so he's home with DH 3 days a week and goes to daycare two days a week so DH can do his graduate work. Not sure I love his current daycare but it was cheaper than the one he was at last year (before my husband got laid off), and closer to my job). Maybe it will get a little better when he's in the toddler room.
SO, that's it from me. Just wanted you to know I"m still alive and doing well, and thinking about you all! I will try to check back in soon. I love all the recent pictures you're posted, and the updates. Take care, everyone!

Just thought I'd post our latest news.
Daniel's bloodwork (they were testing a few things to see if he was metabolizing his food correctly, to see if his muscles were breaking down, etc) came back abnormal. The ped isn't really sure what it means, he thinks it may indicate low muscle mass, so we've been referred to a pediatric neurologist at Johns Hopkins that specializes in neuromuscular disorders. Of course, we couldn't get an appt until 11/17.
Daniel's getting much better with crawling - we actually had to put up the gates to keep him from getting in trouble (though turns out we can just leave them open because his favorite game is closing them over and over and over) - though it's really neither here nor there, because the muscles he's using to crawl aren't the ones he really needs to strengthen.
Other than that, he had his first dental appt today! (Piggybacked on his brother's appt) His teeth are coming in in an unusual order, but that's no big deal, just adds to the crankiness because he's getting his molars and his bottom teeth at the same time. He'll probably lose his baby teeth early too because he's got so many teeth already (12!). He got his first flouride treatment too.
TracyDP
10-19-2008, 01:07 AM
emschwar I'm sorry to hear that the blood work came back abnormal, but I'm glad you will finally be getting some answers (hopefully). Not knowing what, if anything, is wrong is the worst. I can't believe Daniel has 12 teeth! Ellie has been sporting the same 6 teeth for over 3 months now and I don't see any new ones coming soon (NOT that I'm all excited for molars mind you...). It never even crossed my mind to take Ellie to the dentist. Is that a normal thing for this age?
We went to the pumpkin patch today and got a few cute pics of Ellie. She's such a character! Her little sense of humor just gets more silly every day. Lately she's been going "OOOOooooo" when she sees anything new or exciting and I caught it today when she saw the big tractor towing a load of pumpkins go by.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3206/2953248635_06bb9962fe_m.jpg
She loved running around amongst the pumpkins. I just followed her around and let her go where she wanted to. She kept trying to pick them up (most of which weighed several times more than her) and when she finally found one she COULD pick up, that was the one we got for her :)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3246/2953247555_43aafc4821.jpg
At one point she walked over to a big round one slightly shorter than her and just leaned over and put her head on it like she was ready for a nap. I was so bummed that I didn't have the camera at the moment.

:p jjohm we had a similar "tissue issue" here as well, I just didn't get a picture of it. DD also loves to shred paper towels. DH is really bad about leaving his paper towels in the living room if he uses one with a snack and I have several times come in from the kitchen to find DD surrounded with paper towel shreds on the floor. Luckily she has passed the point of eating the paper, though she still LOVES to chew on clothing tags.

Of course, we are getting comments like "he STILL isn't walking!" which are annoying. I read online that they have until 18mo I guess. He's taken steps before (as many as 4) and cruises well and walks w/ toys. Just not interested in walking or lacks the confidence, I guess.

We had trunk-r-treat on Wednesday night at our church and Ellie had a blast running around the parking lot at the church (how often do kids get to do that?) and saw all her friends there. It's a good thing too because I started feeling a head cold coming on last night and today I feel like complete ass, so there won't be any trick-or-treating for me tonight. DH may take her around to a few houses we know but I think we are probably just going to dress her up and have her help hand out candy. Our neighborhood is fairly big with lots of kids, and far from any other places to trick-or-treat so we usually get a LOT of kids. Last year we went through a whole Costco size bag and we were giving out 1 candy bar each!
Here is my little daffodil flower at playgroup Thursday and our Jack-o-lanterns we carved last night. The little one is in honor of Ellie's OOOOOOOOh face she does all.the.time right now. She did it when she saw the pumpkins this morning (we carved them while she was sleeping) and it was super cute.

No walking here, but that's no surprise. Actually Gage even tries to get out of it in therapy, where he has help! He is crawling everywhere, finally, though. I am proud of him. He's really doing great.
Here is Gage as BamBam. We really didn't do anything for Halloween...we went to our friends' house last night to roast hot dogs and marshmallows, and I dressed Gage up for that at first, but that was it.

Super cute pictures everyone!
I never did pick up a hat but Sabrina went as a witch (and yes she needs a barette but she keeps pulling them out):
DD's hair is quickly going to be in her eyes so I'm either going to trim it a little or start putting headbands in her hair. She loved the flower headband that was with her costume so I bought a set of kids headbands and now she brings them to me so I can put "the pretty" in her hair. She leaves them alone pretty well.
I found this website through another thread and was considering buying a few of these barettes since DD has super fine hair.

Any plans to move our thread to the toddler section? I had a QOTD but wasn't sure to post it here or wait until we do "updates" on the other thread. I guess I'll just throw it out there now.
QOTD: What is your DC's newest "thing" they do/say/etc.
DD won't take a bite of her yogurt unless I let her put 1 cheerio on it beforehand
DD just started using some of the signs I've been using around her. Just last week she signed "bath" out of nowhere (and it was bathtime!). Since then she uses "more", "all done" and "ball". It's like something in her head just clicked and all of a sudden she got it. I was getting frustrated and about to give up the signing but now I'm trying to learn even more.
DD is getting really good with face parts and knows hers and my nose, ears, mouth, teeth, eyes, and hair. She loves to touch and play with my hair (and luckily she isn't pulling it anymore).

QOTD:
Sophia's latest thing is to say "UH OH"- whenever she drops something (or I do, or DH does), and its so funny.
She also knows signs for eat, milk, more, and please. And she also knows her face parts (nose, eyes, ears, mouth, tongue, hair and teeth) and also knows her feet, fingers and toes. She thinks her toes are funny, if you ask her "where are your toes?", she pulls her feet up and grabs her toes and laughs.
She is so much fun now- she is really into puzzles (the ones with the big wooden cut out pieces) and can actually do them. She is also really into books, and will sit on the floor with her books and look through them all, babbling away and pointing at the pictures. She loves loves loves our dog Lily, also, and calls her EE EE. They are best friends, she gives Lily hugs and kisses all the time (Lily is a pug, so she just basically lets Sophia do whatever she wants to her).
Still eating everything- her new favorite is pomegranetes.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot the BELLY BUTTON! We have the Belly Button book by Sandra Boynton (the hippo book) and DD loves it. She pulls up her shirt to show anyone who will look her belly button. We had three 14-18m old toddlers at playgroup last week doing a Belly-B comparison, it was super cute. DD is also interested in her girl parts in the tub and seems fascinated with me using the bathroom. I was peeing while she was in the bathtub the other night and when I said "mommy is peeing on the potty" and did the potty sign she laughed and stood up, then peed in the tub. Not sure if there was a connection there.... She likes her feet too.

QOTD - Olivia also says UH OH anytime anything is dropped. She knows the signs for eat, more, all done and stop and we are working on the sign for milk. I think she knows it when I use it, but she hasn't used it back yet. She has also started nodding and shaking her head and get it right most of the time. DH and I were watching SNL with David Cook on TIVO last Sunday and she stopped playing to watch / listen to his songs. When the first one was finished I asked her if she liked it and she nodded - too cute.
She loves her books and loves to bring us books to read to her and also loves music. Her favorite tv show is The Wiggles and she and Daddy watch them each morning while I'm getting ready for work. She loves to dance. She has about 10 or 12 words and phrases that she uses pretty consistently.

Do we want a new thread for the toddler section? I can just move this one over there, and then we don't need to start a new one.
I can't think of any one "new thing" Daniel's got going on right now. He's a signing fiend - he's got 30 signs already! No words, but man, the kid can sign. He's starting to bear some weight on his legs, so that's good, but his trunk is still really weak. Only 11 days until our neurologist appt! Then hopefully we'll get some answers.
He loves Elmo, and he loves meat! He ate about 1/5 of DH's steak the other night at dinner, and that was after 2.5 jars of baby food! He stole all my bacon the other day at ihop too. He really loves his food. He loves cheerios too:

He's chosen a new lovey too - his toothbrush. He won't sleep without it.

Hi everyone!
**Rant**
Yesterday I brought DD to the lab to have a lead test and a CBC done. The lead test is mandatory in Chicago but I don't get the CBC. I am so pissed that I agreed to this. The tech stuck the needle in DD's arm then grabbed a vial and in between that time she said DD's arm moved and it was my fault. On top of that, she then kept moving the needle around INSIDE DD's arm trying to hit the vein again. DD was screaming, I just about passed out.
She then said she could do a finger prick, to which I agreed because I thought she was just getting a spot for the lead test but she proceeded to suck out 2 vials of blood from DD's finger. WTF!? If they don't get accurate results from that they can bite me cause I am not going thru that again!
New things~ Walking! That's her biggie now. I'm so happy cause she was killing my back!
Walking~ I think someone asked this recently. DD started walking f/t last week. So, she was 13 months 2 weeks?

People who suck at taking blood or starting IVs make me ANGRY! Gage has been stuck so many times and the one that impressed me was the one who actually LISTENED to me when I said he was difficult to stick. She didn't hesitate going to get the vein finder and someone else to help. If she stuck your DD then walked away then it was HER fault that it came out. Those things need to be done as quickly as possible on a little one! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

Frequently, if they're doing one blood test, they'll do any others that might be worthwhile doing, since they're already there. Rather than stick your kid once now, then again later if they need that test, they just do it all at once. When Daniel got his bloodwork done, they ordered the basic metabolic panel, CBC and Creatine Kinase, but, since they were already taking blood, the NP ordered a lead check too. It's not required in our area, but she figured might as well get it done, rather than have to get him stuck again later, possibly.

N is saying mostly just "Hi Da-Da" (to every.single.person, including me) and "yeah" to everything, which is fun when DS1 asks him things since the answer is always, "yeah." DS1 is in for quite a surprise when N learns "no."
he is not walking, not taking any steps on his own (just cruising). you see, walking would require that he leave my side (or my feet) for more than three seconds. i think i need to get out more. he's only independent if i'm not around.

This bloodwork stuff must be new because I didn't have to do it w/ #1. We did the lead test but it was just a finger prick. If it has to be repeated I'll bring her to Children's Hospital where they specialize in kids. I was going to ask the tech if she had the vein finder but she kept saying, Oh she has good veins....

Zoƫ had the tests too. They wouldn't do the finger print, had to get a vial from the vein. She did okay, the scariest part for her was the tournequet. She got her first flu shot a few weeks ago. We are dealing with a sinus infection, on the second week of anitbiotics, that don't seem to be working. She moved up to the toddler room (at daycare on Monday) and this helped her sleep issues. In the infant room she would sleep no more than 30 minutes for the entire day. Now they have a scheduled nap time, lights off, blinds closed, and each day she has slept for 2 hours.
Zoƫ isn't really talking. She say "UHHHHH" to everything. I feel like she is in the terrible 2's already. She wants everything her way and then throws a tantrum if she doesn't get it or mom isn't holding her (every second of the day). Hopefully she will outgrow this soon because it is taking a toll on mommy and daddy. My child used to be so laid back.Anyone else having this issue?
She can sign "milk", "more", and "finished". I haven't worked on much more with her. She still loves her baths and loves doing motorboat. I think she could do this for hours at a time.
And the question about walking: She started walking at 11 months. Now it is a run, ack.

N was never laid back, like DS1 was, and truth be told things are so much better around here than they were when he was a fussy newborn that I try not to complain, but his clinginess to me and whining/crying for me constantly at home is driving me crazy. I am a SAHM and I can't be holding him every second. He cries at my feet while I make breakfast, while I pack our diaper bag to go out, while I make dinner. He will only play independently if I am not around or for about 5 seconds if I am around. He does better when brother is around, but that usually results in them fighting over toys. (Which is fine, it's expected and at least they are both engaged in play.) This morning I thought I was going to lose my mind with N's crying as I was trying to get out the door for preschool for DS1. Then as soon as I picked him up and went toward the door, he flipped like a switch to happy. I understand he has to get out of the house, but in order to do that I have to be able to put him down for five minutes and put shoes on. AAAGGGHHHH!!!!

I was just wondering about this. It must just be the childs personality. I was thinking maybe the clingyness and "third leg" problems came partly due to not being around Mom all day and needing that extra attention when they were home. But if you are a SAHM and have the same issue then it's probably just the personality of each kid. I am a SAHM and my DD does play on her own OK as long as she knows I'm around. We have our living room mostly baby proofed, enough to leave her for a few minutes while I go in the kitchen or to the bathroom, and she usually doesn't even notice I'm gone. She will also play quietly in her crib if I need to run outside or do something and don't want to leave her alone in the living room (like shower).
DD does, however, have some clingy issues at the daycare I take her to 2 days a week. She wants to be around Kim all.the.time and gets panicy and cries if she goes to another room or out of sight for more than a minute. Kim and I have discussed it and feel it's better to keep taking DD there (she's only been going regularly for about 3 weeks, 2 days a week) because she gets to play with other kids (Kims son is 9m old) and having her home with me 24/7 won't help her be any more independent either (besides making me crazy).

DD got her first "modeling gig"...lol. She won a free pair of Babylegs and will be featured in the November Babylegs newsletter! Her picture was chosen out of all the entries. Woo Hoo! This was the picture I submitted from our trip to the coast just before her first birthday. The free pair of babylegs I requested are below that.

Congrats! Adorable picture. If you can, please post the newsletter once you get it.
I talked with two of Olivia's teachers this morning, the lead teacher and Olivia's primary. They told me that there is a very good chance she'll be moving into the toddler room in January. I certainly hope so! I think she'll be ready for January and if they didn't offer to move her, I was going to talk to them about it. Hopefully, I won't have to be *that* mom! We moved her to one nap over the weekend and so far it has gone really well. Our biggest issue is self feeding, but we've cut way back on bottles and that is helping. At least she doesn't gag anymore and most of the time swallows what she puts in her mouth. Hopefully in the next 6 weeks we can get her eating all table foods for lunch and she'll be ready to go.
QOTD - what is everyone's DC's shedule look like? Right now ours is this, which is very close to the toddler room, thankfully!
6:00 - wake up
6:30 - breakfast
9:00 - snack
11:15 - lunch
12:00 - bottle and nap
2:30 - up from nap
3:00 - snack
5:45 - dinner
6:45 - bath, story, bottle
7:30 - asleep

That's super cute, Tracy!
Schedule We are still on a two-nap schedule, and the time change really messed with N's wakeup time. He is almost always asleep by 7 pm.
N has had a clear runny nose for WEEKS and I have no idea what's up with that. I should do a little research...

Thanks! I think DD has started to get a little bit of an ego
Schedule We are still on a two-nap schedule, and the time change really messed with N's wakeup time. He is almost always asleep by 7 pm.
We have recovered from the time change and DD is waking up around the same time she did before (8-ish). We are down to 1 nap between 11:30-12 for about 2 hours (occasionally 2.5-3hrs). She can make it til bedtime most of the time without another nap, but about 2-3 days a week she either takes a 30 min car nap on the way home from town or I put her down at 5ish for a 45min nap at home. I don't let her sleep past 6 or it messes with bedtime, but a short nap (or sometimes just a quiet time playing in the dark in her crib) takes the edge off on days she is a little more tired.
N has had a clear runny nose for WEEKS and I have no idea what's up with that. I should do a little research...
I almost always have a slight runny nose for most of the winter. It's from the dry air, constant weather/temperature changes (barometric pressure messes with my head) and random mild colds. I have noticed that DD seems to have inherited that trait and often has a runny nose for no apparent reason, though right now she does have a mild cold. Just a thought.

YAY for being in the toddler forum!
Taurus - could N be teething? Olivia quite often gets a clear runny nose when she is getting bottom teeth. Her eyes water when she is getting an upper tooth. Strange, I know, but it usually lasts until the tooth pops through and then goes away.

Anyone having trouble with their child sleeping now? Z used to be the best sleeper on the planet (has STTN since 7 weeks old). Now she wakes up a couple times a night. As soon as we pick her up she falls asleep on us. Put her in the crib she cries. I am one tired momma.

Bloodwork~ Recieved a call from the ped a couple days ago. DD is slightly anemic. Totally bummed. She suggested Poly-Vi-Sol, which I went and picked up but when I smelled it  there is just no way DD will let me give that to her! I don't even want to try adding it to her milk/food cause I'm sure she'll detect it. Anyone else using this and how do you dispense it? I've started giving her cream of wheat in the AM for breakfast but want to make sure she's getting the iron count needed. We aren't big meat eaters sooo. We'll have a repeat blood draw in January at Children's.

I took N to see the doc for the runny nose and she did say she thought it was teething. I thought he was done (he had been getting all his four back teeth--molars??-- in at his one year checkup, at the end of Sept) but she said the 4th one is just poking through now, so it does make sense time-wise, since the runny nose has been almost since that checkup. She said in med school they say teething doesn't cause runny noses but that she begs to differ after her years of seeing babies! He was also grabbing his left ear, which is where the incoming tooth is. We will see if it stops after this last back tooth is in. (He got the front ones a long time ago.)
She said he could go on an antibiotic bc it fits the description of a sinus thing, given the duration, but his ears were perfect (which was why I took him in, just to be safe) but there is no way I am doing antibiotics with clear runny nose and perfect ears.
Tracy, now that you mention it, I tend to have a runny nose a lot, too, lately, and I used to as a kid as well. I have suspected milk, which we started also right after his first bday, but the doctor really didn't think it was that. We'll see! I'm just glad his ears are fine. I am going to load him up with homeopathic teething meds and such. I am so glad we saw that homeopath when he was a fussy baby bc I have such confidence now matching symptoms to homeopathic meds and administering them to him. There is truly one for every symptom that exists!

Time for a status update now that we are officially "toddlers"?
Stats: 23.5 lbs 33 inches (roughly) wearing larger size 12m and most 18m clothing (I just sorted out her 12m Carters lounge pants and bought a set of 18m that are a little long but fit over her cloth diaper butt). 18m are a little long since she is mostly torso, shorter legs. Size 5-5.5 shoes.
Teeth: She's had the same 6 teeth since before she turned 1 but it looks like our first molar (lower one) is coming in right no
