*If there is already a thread about the OC, I'll delete this one! I did a search, though, and nothing came up*
Who else is addicted to this show? I had not seen a single episode prior to a week or so ago. Then my friend sat me down, and we watched the first eight episodes in a span of two days. Since then, she lent me her season one DVDs, and now I've seen it up through the Chrismakuh episode. We are going to have a season two DVD marathon on August 23! I love this show - the drama, the characters, the people-watching. It is wholly and all-encompassingly addicting, though! Seth Cohen is the coolest character on TV, in my opinion. I love watching his chemistry with Summer (and think it's sweet they're dating in real life)! I love to hate Julie Cooper and Luke. Okay, that's enough from me! Hope to hear from other fans soon, or to be directed to another OC thread, in which case I'll just delete this one.
Thanks!

Me, me, me!!! :D I'm a major addict.
Cliff and I have been watching from the beginning, and we just love it. I think it's one of the best teen soaps in forever. I got the first season on DVD for Christmas last year, and I see that the second season is coming out pretty soon, too. I'm gonna have to have that set, as well. ;)
Can't wait for the new season to start! :D

Oooh, I can't wait, southerner! My friend is gone for the weekend, though - it's taking ALL of my willpower not to pop the next disc in, because she wanted to go see the whole first season with me! OH I am in such suspense!
The new season premiers Thursday, September 8, but I don't know the time off the top of my head.

Southerner, I'm trying to finish Season One before Season Two comes out on DVD; then I'm going to have to try to squeeze Season Two in before Season Three starts! It's a little crazy!

A new season starts on September 8. It's on the same night and time as it was last season. That's Thursdays at 8:00 EST.
I LOVE this show. DH and I have a ritual. I bake chocolate chip cookies every Thursday during the OC season. So we eat milk and cookies and watch the OC every Thursday night. DH doesn't really much like TV, but he got sucked into it from the beginning of the first season, and now we watch it together. It's fun. :)

OK - I'm going to talk about last night's show, so if you haven't watched it yet, maybe you don't want to read this.
Well they seemed to get that Trey thing wrapped up very neatly in one episode, although I wonder if anything is going to happen to Marissa. The younger crowd all seem very happy right now - Seth, Summer, Marissa and Ryan - something has to happen.
Poor Sandy. He has to handle all of this himself while Krysten is at rehab. I hope she snaps out of it and starts thinking of her husband and kids.
That Julie is evil - so much fun to watch!
okay i missed it, is trey alive? why is julie a witch???
I fell asleep and missed it! Anyone know what sites have good recaps? Thanks!

and what 's with that chick in rehad with kirsten? She's creepy. It's like she's obsessed with kirsten or trying to sabotage her or something...I don't know, bad vibes...

okay i missed it, is trey alive? why is julie a witch???
Julie offered Trey $20,000 if he agreed to tell the cops that Ryan shot him and not Marissa. He said it at first b/c he thought it would "save" Marissa. She dressed as a candy striper and talked to him at the hospital. He then made an official statement saying that it was Marissa that shot him in Ryan's defense. Everything turned out okay ofcourse and Trey took off on a greyhound bus.
Did anyone else notice that they said that they can tell the cops the truth now?? And then Sandy said something to Ryan about having something to hide. I wonder what they didn't tell the police or Sandy?
I agree that the blonde that Kirsten is in rehab w/ is creepy!! Either she is love w/ Kirsten or idolizes her and wants to become her. Either way bad news!!
Did anyone else think that the sailing/ beach scenes were a little too campy?? I told my husband that I wish I had that kind of money to just grab a boat and go. I don't know just a little happy for the situation.

ohohoh!
OC Fan right here. Even my hubby will watch bits and pieces, and asks me questions about it. . . and so does my best friend's DH!! Hehehe!
LOVED the season opener last night! I too, am suspicious about the woman in rehab who is paying too much attention to Kirsten.
*plot killer coming up*
I read an article online that said Marissa's character gets kicked out of school, but not Ryan's. . . . and her "replacement" social chair gets into it with Summer.
*plot killer over*
Anyway, I cannot wait until next week. . . . I wonder what they'll do next year. . . all the kids are seniors this year.
Oh yeah. Wanted to add that I too am a Julie hater.
AND--did anyone else remember last year's season opener where Theresa told Ryan she lost the baby, and then her mom came in the room and comforted her while she cried? Personally, I don't think she lost the baby, she just lied about it because she knew Ryan wasn't happy. . . . and I bet that comes back into the plotline this season or next season at an inopportune time for Marissa and Ryan's relationship.
Okay, until next week ladies!!

Personally, I don't think she lost the baby, she just lied about it
She didn't lose the baby. I think they strongly hinted at that a few times last season. And at the end of the season, she didn't want Ryan to follow her in with the groceries b/c her baby was inside (she didn't tell him that). Her mom then said something about how the baby looks more and more like his dad everyday. Theresa's boyfriend around that time could also be the father, though. But, I do believe it will be part of this year's storyline.
If anyone else is interested in the first spoilers that MidwesternGal posted, I think I posted a link to that within the last page or so.

I totally agree, i think she is very jealous of kirsten and tries to take her family while she tells her she is not ready to leave rehab.

Just got around to watching it....
I agree with a lot of things people have said. Thought the beach scene was cheesy (but there's a little cheese in every episode) Jeri Ryan, wonder if she's going to have a big role this season?!? That could be a good storyline...
I still think Julie plays an badass villianess :D
I like how they left the Trey storyline open. I think he and Theresa will come back on the show again.
Will be interesting to see how they keep the show open for another season seeing as they are all Seniors now. That is assumining there will be another season??

Your question made me think of 90210- they all went to the local college. They'll probably do something like that.
Anyone have any ideas what's up with Charlotte?
I think the new dean plays a great bad guy. I'm looking forward to that storyline. I was hoping that once he kicked Ryan out of school, Ryan would just keep beating the crap out of him. I really liked how Ryan came back and put his arm around Marrissa and they walked off together.

I missed the beginning of last's night's episode, but I think I still caught everything.
- I don't know why the kept showing scenes of Seth and Summer in the Ferris Wheel during the whole fight with the dean - I thought they looked so silly - sitting up there staring down at the whole situation
- poor sandy. You can see that he wants Kirsten back so badly. I can't believe how selfish she is being right now, why is she putting the needs of this manipulative stranger over the needs of her family.
- Jimmy's getting himself into quite a situation - where does he get this money from?
southerner
09-16-2005, 08:06 AM
I think Julie and Jimmy are getting all of that money from Caleb's bank account. Can't wait to see the look on their faces when/if he doesn't leave her the money. I think that's the only reason Jimmy came back (the money). When/if she (julie) doesn't get it, then he'll most likely leave again. He's not in the opening credits as a regular anymore (just guest starring).
By the way Taylor and the Dean were standing next to each other, I wondered if there was something going on with them. Not only sexually, but if they are related or a "team" somehow???
I thought Marissa and Ryan have already "done the deed"?? The previews made it look like that's going to be their first time.

It would be the first time. Marissa and Ryan have never been together sexually before.
I don't think Caleb left Julie any money either... I also think Jimmy is going to get whacked. Is is possible that Jimmy is trying to romance Julie in the hopes that she'll remarry him and they'll be financially set and he'll have his family back? I think in a weird way, Jimmy and Julie do love one another... but I think that both of them are just horrible with money... I hope they don't kill off Jimmy though... Marisa is messed up enough as it is... but I am mad at Jimmy for screwing up his money AGAIN! He got all of that money from Caleb and it's gone? Can't he save anything?
Sheesh!

REALLY??? I can't remember every detail of the show. Also, I have to remember they aren't really dating as Ryan and Marissa when the show isn't on. So, of course the only times they are together is when we see them ;)

i know that Marissa and Ryan have done it before. They hooked up all the time the first time they were dating. I don't think they have since his ex came into the picture because Marissa felt betrayed.
I do remember plenty of times in the first season that they showed them making out and taking clothes off or putting clothes back on.
I was wondering if they were both over 18.... Maybe they elope as a couple of runaways!!
That one preppy chick that wants Marissa's position has to be the one spilling rumors to the dean!! Ryan was right to sock that guy!! Did you see how hard he was grabbing and pulling Marissa!?! My husband would have socked him too!!
I am also sure that the Coopers get nothing!! Kaleb was pretty smart when it came to his money. I am sure he would have put some clause on his will about how long the marriage was at the time of death... Also the lawyers keep on putting it off. He may also have it setup so that at the will isn't executed until so many months after his death and Julie's share depends on how soon she hooks up w/ someone else.
stevesbabygirl
09-16-2005, 12:17 PM
That Dean is such an a$$hole! I asked Steve what he would do if that happened to me, and he said he'd punch the guy. I thought it was very sweet of Ryan to walk back to her and put his arm around her, awwwww. I thought Taylor had something to do with it too, evil wench. I hope Summer kicks her butt. I felt kinda bad for Summer and Seth because they were stuck on the ferris wheel and couldn't do anything to help their friends.
Charlotte is a psycho. I thought that from the first time I saw her. She has already manipulated Kirsten, and I'm sure those were alligator tears she was crying last night. It kinda reminds me of that girl on 90210 (speaking of which), I think her name was Tara, that started copying Kelly all the time, and then wanted to kill her.

i know that Marissa and Ryan have done it before. They hooked up all the time the first time they were dating.
I have the first season on dvd, the second season on tape, and they haven't had sex in any of those episodes that I have watched (which is all of them). Seth and Summer have had sex. Marissa has only been with Luke sexually. She has slept in the same bed as Ryan, but that's it. They broke up so many times that it just never happened.
The one time it looked like it might happen, Kirsten walked in on them and even then, Marissa kept removing Ryan's hand when it traveled too low.
Did I miss the episode where they had sex, because I've watched the first season so many times I almost know it by heart.... it did not happen then... Did it happen in the second season and I missed it? I guess I could go back and look at tapes if someone points me in the right direction...

I'm pretty sure Ryan and Marissa have never had sex.
Kirsten is bugging me, she should care more about being with her family than helping a stranger - that's what the rehab clinic's for.
Can Marisa and Ryan never get a break - I swear, I love this show, but honestly, whose life is so messed up all the time like theirs? LOL

I bet they're going to make Taylor and the Mean Dean a couple. The dude has an agenda and it is a good story line for tv- contraversial and fun to make jokes about. My FH kept making comments about why bother beating up Jimmy when they could easily drown him. I didn't think they would kill him- he needs to be able to come back to screw up Marissa more.

Anyone else think Jonny surfer is hot? His girlfriend can't act and I did think all that "come hang out with us, we'll drop you off, show up at your house unexpectedly and bring you to the school dance" stuff was a bit over the top and unrealistic. I guess they had to get some good storylines started before the hiatus :(
So, Charlotte wants Kirsten's money, ah ha! Her and Sandy were cute together tonight.

I watched last night. Here are my thoughts:
- I also thought it was unrealistic about how quickly that group took in Marissa.
- I thought it was funny how they had a Seth, Summer and Ryan of Public school. "Seth" was the goofy skateboard guy, "Summer" was the smart-a$$ girl, and "Ryan" was the compassionate tough guy.
-I felt bad for Julie Cooper

First they got Taylor to come to the seedy mermaid hotel and threatened to tell on her, and they sent the pictures and a note to Sandy, who then went to the dean and said he had pictures and asked for him to let Ryan back into Harbour.
I liked last night's episode, although the whole Charlotte thing is annoying. Like anyone would just accept a condo from a strange crazy lady.

It was okay. We learned more about Charlotte's plans. And of course they are messing with Seth & Summer and Marissa & Ryan again. But then it wouldn't be good TV if everyone was happy. :p
I love Seth's one-liners. Summer told Ryan that Marissa wasn't going to join them for dinner b/c she was with Johnny and Seth told Ryan "Try not to punch Summer." LMAO! I think he makes the show.

I know that Julie is a biotch, but I kind of felt bad for her in this last episode (Dec. 1 epi.). I am not going to go into details in case anyone hasn't seen it yet. lol. And yes, Johnny is a hottie, but I don't like not knowing what his true intentions are with Marissa. Does he want to steal her away from Ryan or does he actually just want to be a good friend. I think he wants to steal Marissa away!!

It was a couple of words on the bottom line. It just looked like fuzzies with larger spaces in it. I am suprised that with a 65" tv I cannot read fine print on someone's shirt!

I can't wait until Thursday. Now- who do you think Kaitlyn tries to stir trouble with? Steal Seth away? Maybe Ryan? Maybe Trey comes back and he hooks up with more jaibait? Perhaps Kaitlyn goes to school with Johnny and they hook up to make Marissa start seething and realizing that she really does love Johnny?
Oh, the possibilities. :)

I was watching last night's episode and I was just mad at Seth. And the writers. And the director. First of all, I grew up in the pot capitol of North America- Vancouver. I know what smoking a joint looks like, smells like, and makes you act like. That was not beleivable. But I guess they can't show him inhaling on tv.
How would no one know he had been smoking up? It does linger in your clothes and hair, and his room would not be magically stink free with air freshener- it would smell like pot and air freshener.
Besides the pot thing- last night's episode was okay. I think it's good to show Marissa getting a bit heebed that her sister is with Johnny. Marissa always seems to have that attitude that she doesn't want a guy, but no one else can have them...

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way. I love the show normally, but it's going downhill.
Did I ever post that my friend's boyfriend(Gav) had lunch with Ben MacKenzie a few months ago? Gav works on films here as an extra wrangler/ an actor and he was talking and smoking with this guy and Gav actually asked him if he was "talent or crew" and he said talent. So Gav (who was in a few big movies) wanted to compare- and asked him what he was in, and he told him. Gav's gf is a huge fan of the show (thanks to us lending her the DVDs) so he got a picture with his camera phone of the two of them together which serves as her screensaver.

To Sare: Yes! I totally agree with you. It was unrealistic with the whole pot thing. There is no way that you can get rid of the smell just by spraying some air fresher. Plus, the scene where Kaitlyn is smoking pot and then Seth runs into her while he was out on his little walk...it's like, can't Marissa smell pot when she was standing really close to Kaitlyn? lol.
For me, the least believable part of the pot story line is that the rest of them weren't already using it on a regular basis. Come on, it's high school.
kcjaime
01-30-2006, 07:17 AM
While I did wonder why Marissa couldn't smell it when she approached them at the pier, I don't find it unbelievable that they weren't all smoking pot at some point or another.
I graduated in '96, and really, not a whole lot of people smoked pot. The ones that did, at least in my school, were an exception rather than a rule. No, I didn't know everyone, but drinking and smoking cigarettes was much more commonplace.
Just my thoughts! :)

Anna? I didn't hear that. My DH and I were discussing that we want her to come back. She is one of our all time favourite characters.
I was glad Johnny died, he was getting on my nerves. I think it would be good to see Marissa struggle with finding a guy. That would be awesome. I think Volcheck is going after Marissa for revenge on Ryan. I don't like Sadie at all. She knew that Marissa and Ryan were together and was OBVIOUSLY going after him. We need some new men for Marissa and a new woman for Ryan to shake things up a bit.
I also am enjoying Julie and Dr. Roberts together.

And I'm sorry, but the road to Brea from Newport Beach looks NOTHING like that! There is no desert in between. Even if they were driving on Laguna Canyon Road, there are no joshua trees there. The drive to Indio was much more convincing. Sorry, I grew up in the OC :).

Love Summer's dad and Julie together. They should have some fun with that.
I'm glad that Ryan and Marissa broke up. But I get tired of the same 2-3 story lines between them. I don't care for Sadie, she looks too much like the chick he got pregnant. I am still waiting for her to come back and cause some baby momma drama. Oh and who the heck rebounds that quick??? Dump your girlfriend and invite some other girl over that same night.... Really?
Did Seth quit smoking weed? I might have missed something there.

I'm liking where they've taken the storyline with Matt and Sandy. I hope the "real" Sandy is back next week and stays loyal to Matt in the end.
Marissa and Summer's fight at school was funny. I wish I could remember what they said that I thought was so funny, but I remember LOL (as I often do from Summer).
Anyone else cry at Kirsten's AA meeting? :o

I totally cried at the AA meeting. I thought it would be a special anniversary for her but was unsure of which one. I love that she took Seth and I remember the look on his face in that episode- it was heartbreaking. I have always really liked the dynamic between Seth and his parents. I do wish they'd show a little more of the family time instead of Ryan and Seth together and Kirsten and Sandy.
I'm so mad at Marissa for the downward spiral. She has some serious self-esteem issues if she keeps hooking up with the dumb guys that treat her badly. Who actually admits to a guy that she wants to be treated badly?
I love Summer for saving Marissa/Julie at dinner with Dr Roberts. That was great of her.

Marissa's always been a wreck, I guess. I wonder if Ryan really is going to be able to wash his hands of her. I'm thinking not  Dabbling in the coke now, hmm...
My thoughts about Ryan and Marissa is that both of them contribute to their drama. Marissa has her drama, yes, but Ryan needs to get off his high ("I just want no drama") horse. He acts like Marissa's drama has nothing to do with him when it was HIS brother TREY who tried to rape her and then Marissa had to shoot Trey to save Ryan's life. Like it or not, Marissa's drama is not all Marissa-created and I'm a little irritated at the way Ryan keeps trying to shed her like he is.
Marissa is definitely messed up, but then again, Ryan is no saint either. Seeing as how Marissa went from having wealth to having nothing and adjusting fairly well - well, up until the cocaine stuff now.
Ryan got kicked out of school for standing up for Marissa (actually they were both hosed by the new dean (then)) - but it was her saving his life that caused the drama in the first place.
I think that Marissa was really nice going over to stop girl-dujour from leaving town - she clearly loves Ryan... just when you're irritated with her for acting up, she goes and does something really nice and selfless.
I think I've been ticked off with Ryan ever since he exploded at Marissa over that other girl getting drunk (the one who ended up being Caleb's daughter?)... he was SO cruel and mean to Marissa - Ryan can be a bit abusive sometimes.
Anyway - I tuned out a few weeks ago when I saw the breakup coming. I didn't want the drama (the comedy had waned).
But I watched this week because I think I actually like things better when Ryan and Marissa aren't together - because they just aren't ready for one another. I think eventually by the series ending they'll be together, but I think the whole show will be about how they both grow up and eventually come together as more mature people.
I wonder how well Ryan would do going from wealth to nothing and back to wealth and the 2nd step-dad as Marissa has?
You can tell Ryan's on my poop list. Shows always manage to make the heroes piss me off! Roswell destroyed Max Evans in a similar way. After Tess, he just became completely unheroic and unrootable.
phoenics
03-31-2006, 03:48 PM
Who actually admits to a guy that she wants to be treated badly?
Someone who probably doesn't believe she deserves any better. Ryan has made some not-so-nice comments straight to Marissa's face that she's probably internalized. Plus, her own father doesn't live anywhere near them (is he dead or something?) - and she hasn't had a stable father figure ever.
Clearly Marissa has issues - she's jealous of Summer right now because Summer has what she doesn't - a super duper relationship with her dad... and now her mom is joining that unit and Summer/Julie/Summer's Dad fit well together (shockingly). I think Marissa feels left out. Caleb never projected that daddy vibe - but Summer's dad DOES... and I think that probably is bringing up some issues for Marissa.
Marissa has abandonment issues.
Added to that - she had Johnny pining for her and then he died - and then Ryan basically bolted for Johnny's ex - MAJOR abandonment issues. Plus, the way Ryan talks to Marissa sometimes borders on abusive - so I think she's internalized what he's said to her and the fact that her life basically fell apart after Ryan got to town. She probably doesn't think she deserves to be happy - I think Ryan projects that being with her is nothing but drama and so Marissa thinks she's not good enough to be with a 'good' guy.
This show is working overtime to make me dislike Ryan - Seth is a lifesaver.

I don't like Sadie at all. She knew that Marissa and Ryan were together and was OBVIOUSLY going after him.
Oh!! Thank you! I really don't like Sadie! She was foul for going after Ry like that and Ry was foul for leaving Marissa for her like that. I really don't think she's all that and a bag of chips like Ry thinks she is.
I also am enjoying Julie and Dr. Roberts together.
I love them a lot.
And Summer is just so awesome to watch - she's so funny.

Yes, Anna is coming back. I read it in the TV Guide a few weeks ago.
I absolutely CANNOT stand Marissa. Ryan deserves better, someone who appreciates him.
Please - Ryan contributes a lot to Marissa's problems. She shot someone to SAVE HIS behind.

We always blame the girl, lol.

Hahaha, yeah I agree, I think Ryan is borderline abusive with some of the things he says to Marissa. I can see why she is acting the way she is, but I was hoping that Summer would be enough to pull her out of it. I can see too why she doesn't want her dad to be replaced by Summers dad as well. She seriously needs an intervention, much in the same way that everyone interevened for Kirsten.
Speaking of, I also shed a tear when she dedicates her accomplishment to Seth. Awwwwwwww......

Is anyone else amused by how much we analyze the psyche of the characters?
I completely agree that the drama is definitely a mix of Ryan and Marissa. I hate how when she had to battle with her feelings for Johnny for months it was considered unneccesary drama but when he finds another interest it's time to let her go because of all of her drama.

Although it would be a good place to stop it. The problem with a lot of teen dramas that focus on the kids is that they go off to different places for school and there's usually a big turnaround of characters. Case in point 90210 and Dawson's Creek...
I still like the show, and don't want to see it gone, but it is a good time to stop it before it goes downhill (further).

My thoughts exactly. It just contributes to the idea that Ryan is trying to shed Marissa and he's just blaming her for everything that goes wrong, even when he's connected to what goes wrong as much as she is.

Last night's episode annoyed me. Who only applies to ONE college? You never put all of your eggs in one basket. So Seth didn't get into Brown, surely he got in somewhere else.
And since when do you know the exact date when you will get your acceptance letter in the mail? And haven't they heard of "big envelope = acceptance, little envelope = rejection"?
And although I adore Seth, he pissed me off last night. Stupid men, thinking they know what's best for their women.

scarlett First off LOVE your avatar (I'm a Buckeye fan myself...going to the spring game??)
I agree, I thought that Seth was being a royal arse last night. WTF was he thinking acting like Summer wouldn't have changed her mind and followed him. HE is her priority, not what school she goes to. Why don't men get that? Anyway -- he was trying to be all noble, and well, it backfired. Interesting to see what he responds to her next week when she asks him to tell her that he doesn't love her....
And I was half expecting Marissa to ditch the bonfire and head out with that volcheck guy. Oy. I wonder how long her turnaround will last?
Glad that Ryan and Sadie broke up. They just didn't seem like they were in love to me. Not believable.
And what the hell was dr. roberts thinking when he told julie he said that he wasn't testing her????? Isn't that pretty much what he said the week before???? Men! Pmmmpht!

Yeah the eppy annoyed me too. But for some reason I'm really liking Julie these days. The bad thing though is that I can't figure Dr. Roberts out. Summer's great - but he just - there's something weird there.
Why was his last wife always on drugs to keep her calm and zoned out? Was her life with Dr. Roberts not all it was cracked up to be? I want to think of him as a loving father, but he doesn't seem to want to extend himself directly to Marissa - maybe he's being wise, but I'm getting a weird vibe.
Maybe I am overanalyzing, but Julie could be in for some trouble, don't you think? Bear with me: she came from a poor background, probably has a few self-esteem issues, lost everything, and now has a chance at another glass slipper. A man in Dr. Roberts position could do a whoooole lot of damage with this 'reformed' Julie, if he weren't the nice guy we all think he is.
For Summer's sake, I hope I'm just imagining things. I just love Summer.
And I am SO glad that Ryan and Sadie broke up - that was just not believable at all. At the bonfire, Marissa seemed fine until she saw Ryan in the same Berkeley sweatshirt - then her demeanor shifted into a more insecure one. I dunno - just being around Ryan made her look defensive and flinchy, as though she were bracing for some putdown from him.
I hate it that I'm not liking Ryan right now - I still remember how my heart went out to him in the series opener.

I can't believe everyone broke up in the same episode.
See, I don't really remember Neil (please let's not call him Dr. Roberts ;) ) being a loving father. He works alot and IIRC he and Summer didn't/don't spend time together often. I don't know what it is about him. Maybe he justs wants a passive arn ornament and Julie is having a wild ride being back in the life. Problem though is that Julie is anything but passive :p
My heart broke for Seth. Is there anyone in here who thinks maybe this isn't really about not wanting Summer to make sacrifices? Maybe he doesn't see himself with her or wants to go to school out on his own??
Ryan and Marissa are both going to Berkley, eh? Maybe they'll take a road trip together

Previews look good! Anna and Theresa come back into the picture. You knew Theresa had to at some point, they just left that story wide open. If it it his, I wonder if there's going to be a battle for custody? Maybe that's what makes him forego college next year.
Ryan and his mother were sweet, I cried. I hope she comes to his graduation after all that. Notice how they never mentioned Trey and there were no pics of him up in her locker? Thought that was weird.
I know Sandy and Kirsten are having issues, but I really hope they don't have her start drinking again. Looks like last night she did the right thing, but I just hope she can contniue down that path. We haven't heard much more about the matchmaking business her and Julie started.
I'm glad Seth realizes the error of his ways with Summer
It will be interesting to see how they're going to do this next year with college and all. Assuming it comes back on, that is. The second half of the season has been much better that the first.

jjsanner, Theresa is an old neighborhood girlfriend of Ryan's from Chino. They've had a few rendezvous since he's lived in Newport w/ the Cohen's. Her and Ryan hooked up once when he and Marissa had broken up. At that time, she was running away from an abusive fiance (can't remember his name). She got pregnant and we never found out who the father was. Ryan thought it was his (she never told him otherwise). She told Ryan she had a "miscarriage" and Ryan moved back to Newport. We have since found out she has a son and was lying to Ryan about the miscarriage.
All caught up?

Wow. I actually last night's show!!! I think the show is getting better! Well, at least to me it is ;)
marissa - this girl really is needs to get on something. She seems to have multiple personalities to me. On second she is going to college, then she is taking drugs with loser guy, then she is skipping school and getting drunk, then she is rescuing girls from the back of vans and crying for her mommy...hmmmmm I would really like to see her reformed and them build on her character. Maybe something without having to have a boyfriend for a change?!? A career perhaps?
Summer/Seth - This had me so, so sad!!!! You could just see the pain in Seth's eyes telling Summer he didn't love her anymore. And Summer was just devastated. It really warmed my heart to have Seth realizing his mistake at the end of the eppy. Should be interesting to see what happens next, especially with Anna coming back into the picture.
Ryan Glad that he finally ended up asking his mom to come, although I can understand why he wouldn't have wanted to. Just hope she lives up to his hopes for her. And I don't think that the baby is his. This show has been written to "save" Ryan from the very beginning. I don't know that they would head down that path now, but I could totally be wrong.
It is sad how much thought I just put into that ;) ha ha

I have been wondering forever when they where going to bring Theresa back into the story line!! They did this big cliff hanger and then never mentioned her again.
Anyone else thinking WTF when Ryan hooked up with his mom's coworker from the diner. I was just thinking that I didn't know anyone that got action like that when I was in HS.
I felt so bad for Summer and Seth this week. I really like them as a couple on the show.
Marissa- So did she take that girl to the hospital? I noticed they flashed a view of what I think was a hospital but they didn't show her in the waiting room or anything. Hopefully she has snapped out of her lil bad girl phase for a while. That side of her just annoys me.

I agree. Let's hope druggy, drunk Marissa is gone again. We already have enough nonsense on the way with Teresa. I hope we find out that the baby was her boyfriend's and not Ryan's. It bugs me how there is an assumption that it's his when it could have just as easily been the other guy's.
This show is becoming like work to watch, esp. with the Seth & Summer storyline going as it is. Now they are bringing Anna back into the mix, who I think looked AWFUL in the preview. Gross hair! I do like her character, but I wish Seth would just come clean with Summer instead of lying 24 hours a day. Ugh!

What annoys me about the whole Summer/Seth storyline is that Summer said a long time ago she didn't want to be in the cold weather, but was only going to go to Rhode Island because of Seth. It was NOT her first choice. Now Seth has decided that Brown (and the accompanying cold weather) should be her future. I actually understand Seth feeling like Summer shouldn't have to give up on the idea of going to a great school just because he didn't get in (and since she is only 17, I personally think that school SHOULD be her priority, but I guess that makes me old and cynical), but there are many, many great schools (and yes, Seth, even as good as Brown!) in warmer climates. Places where Summer would probably be happier and Seth would probably get in.
I just think that the storyline rings false. Seth decided Brown was his dream--it was never Summer's dream.
Of course, in the end everything will work out. I bet that they all end up in NoCal, at Berkeley, or maybe with Summer and/or Seth at nearby Stanford.
ITA, Peppy.
Did anyone else think it was funny that everyone seemed to know exactly what day their college acceptance letters would be coming? WTH? No one can predict the U.S. Postal Service!
And did Seth only apply to Brown? They seemed to make it look that way. Who applies to only one college? An Ivy League college? Seriously, WTH?
I love this show, though. DH and I watch it every Thursday. :)
philnikki
04-19-2006, 12:48 PM
WTH? No one can predict the U.S. Postal Service!
My DH is a supervisor within the USPS, so I can attest that this is true. He thought that was dumb too ;)
I also agree with you Peppy! Its like Seth is projecting his dream onto Summer, which isn't fair to her at all. I think she would just as soon go to Berkeley if that was where Seth was going. Ultimately, they are all very good schools and they could at least give their relationship a chance to develop post high school. Granted, those typically don't work out, but this is television...anything can happen! lol Look at Donna and David from 90210! :) lol
Anyway -- I think that Summer will find out soon, and that she decides to apply to either Stanford or Berkeley, and Seth decides to do the same. That is how they all end up together. I like these characters and I would be sad to see it end just because they graduate. I think they have a lot of territory to explore with some of them. Especially interesting is the transistion between high school and college. Always room for drama there!
Anyhoo -- just my two cents. Looking forward to this week's episode!!! :D

So what did you guys think of last night's show??
First off, I am so mad at the writers for what they are doing to Kirsten and Sandy. Sandy is NOT this guy that he is acting like right now. The original Sandy would not be acting like this and making the decisions he is. Maybe that is just character development, but I don't like it one bit. And now Kirsten has relapsed...wonder if we are going to see her in an accident of some sort as a cry for attention? Hmmm
Marissa, Marissa, Marissa...just when she starts acting like a normal person, she has to end up in bed with the guy she KNOWS is not right for her. Ugh. Just because he watched the Sound of Music doesn't mean he has changed at all. This is not good.
Glad that Ryan wasn't the father, although I never thought that he was.
And Seth going to RSD makes a lot of sense, especially considering that seems to be his passion. Good thinking Anna. But what must Summer think of all of this? Ugh.
And was it me, or did you guys see Anna in the previews for next week's show at the prom??? Interesting...

04-21-2006, 08:12 AM

Anna did not look good-too skinny and what is up with the long fake nails??

04-21-2006, 08:26 AM
Was it me or did Theresa look different? I don't remember her looking like that before. How old is she anyway?
I do not like what is going on with Sandy. I agree that it is totally out of character for him to behave like that.
I hope Summer and Seth get back together! I like them better than Marissa and Ryan. I think Marissa and Ryan are better off apart. They have more interesting story lines when they're not together.
Honestly, I'm glad Kirsten is drinking again. She does some stupid shit (like that ridiculous move of telling Ryan about Theresa when he was at Berkeley) and at least if she's drinking I can blame it on the alcohol and not think she's an idiot. My DH says Kirsten looks like Mrs. Skeletor. :)
I thought Anna looked really bad. She needs to gain a little weight and lose the crappy extensions. I really do like her character. In the beginning I was rooting for her to win the Anna/Summer war. Now, though, I love Summer, and I want Seth to be with her.
Yeah, and I'm totally over the Marissa drama. Be bad or be good. Make up your mind already!

Anna was looking rough, but we (in our house) still vote Anna over Summer. We love Summer, but not as much as Anna.
I'm over Marissa. I think she needs to make a decision whether to continue down the gutter or go back and be nice girl-next-mansion again.
I really liked how Ryan was at college. I just want him to be happy and finally succeed at something without Marissa screwing it up.
This post proves one simple thing- I am way too emotionally invested in this show. Apparently I need to meet these people in real life so they won't seem like their characters to me.

OK so what did everyone think of last nights episode???
First off, their dresses sure did not look like anything that anyone that know wears or has worn to prom! Ah, but these are rich kids in newport, CA! ;)
Marissa - this doesn't surprise me at all. Marissa, you knew what he was like. You can't change him. Don't even try! Ack. So she's is drinking and heading down the bad girl route again, I guess??
Volcheck/Ryan - So its been awhile since Ryan got in a fight! So did he kill him or what? It sure seemed as if that is what they are implying happened? Did anyone else think that way too?? Hmmmmm
Summer/Seth/Anna - First off, I am glad that Anna made him tell her the truth. I am glad that Summer seemed to forgive him. Her head dive off of the ship was freaking hilarious though!
Sandy/Kirsten - I am thinking divorce proceedings might be in their near future if Sandy doesn't start acting like himself again.
And WTH is up with Seth being hauled away to jail in the previews for next week? Surely there wasn't enough in that letter that would cause something like that???? Any thoughts???

Oh! And here are some spoilers (in white) for you from www.soapoperafan.com/theoc:
The Man of the Year - May 4th, 2006
Ryan has to come to terms with his prom night fight with Volchok.
Sandy is named Newport's Man of the Year.
Sandy ends up facing yet another problem with the hospital project.
Marissa visits with little sister Kaitlin, who ends up in trouble at school.
Seth lands himself in major trouble.
The Graduates - May 18th, 2006
It's graduation, and the season finale.
Dawn returns to see Ryan graduate, and Kaitlin comes home for good.
One person on the show may not survive!
I didn't read the spoilers because I want to wait to find out.
I really don't think that Ryan killed Volchek. The previews for next week made it look that way, but there's no way to fix that situation if he did. I mean, self-defense isn't going to work -- he went over there, after all.
And I'm dying to find out what's up w/Seth. Maybe Sandy read the letter and decided to teach him a lesson about drug use (though having been a Berkeley student in the 60s, I can't imagine that Sandy hasn't ever partaken of the gangia . . .)

MLA - Don't worry, the spoilers don't spoil much! I still don't know if Ryan killed Volcheck and what the heck is up with Seth getting arrested ;)
And I thought the same thing about him getting taught a lesson by Sandy, but I find it hard to imagine as well that Sandy didn't partake in anything, ESPECIALLY given the time fram when he was at Berkeley.
Gosh, I am just waaaaayyyy too into this show ;) *hangs head in shame*

You know what, for some reason they never show previews of next week on my channel. I think Ryan probably put Volchek in a coma and he'll die sooner or later. They didn't kill off Trey, so they have to kill off someoene.
Marissa's dress was so ugly. Who wears that?
Maybe Seth gets hauled to jail because of the investigation into Sandy that was talked about last night from Neil. The cops could find the letter or the pot and send him to jail for a night. (I didn't see the previews so I really don't know).
We were saying last night that it would be interesting if Luke, Anna, Trey, Teresa all came back for their graduation.

Okay, tonight's episode was LAME. The fire was just ridiculous. Seth put the joint down on the desk in a clean spot, it fell into the trashcan, they pan back to the desk, and suddenly there are rolled up papers there to catch fire? Come on! Then minutes after the Newport Group caught fire, the police end up at the Man of the Year award ceremony to arrest Seth 'cause they think he started the fire?!? By that point they wouldn't have even been able to determine yet what had caused the fire, much less who had caused it.
And what was up with Ryan? Why didn't he drive away? Now his car is at the scene of the crime. Not smart. Then he calls Marissa -- now his cell phone records show that he wasn't with her all night. If he'd been with her, why would he have been calling her?
Ugh. I love this show, but lately the writers have really been disappointing me. :(

I sure hope it does get better by the season ender. There were quite a few things I thought were goofy about last night's episode.
Ryan and the car- You guys are right on. Why wouldn't he just drive away after a couple of minutes? Also why is he calling Marissa of all people?? Didn't he just break up with her because of all the drama she brings in to his life?
Seth and the fire- Is it just me or don't most multimillion dollar businesses put sprinkler heads in all their buildings? Also i swear they could have taken that trash can fire scene out of about dozen other soap operas. It's been done before. Why did the cops automattically suspect him.... "Hmmm, fire to a business that is under investigation by the DA for unethical practices, I bet it's his overdramatic son!"
Also the ex girlfriend- Speaking of an overdramatic scene! She sees bruised knuckles and flips out. I didn't even catch that they were dating again.
Seth and his parents- They see the letter and then Kirsten is kissing his butt to go to the award party??? If I found out that my son was smoking pot, and lied to me about getting into school, I would be taking that boy to rehab with me. That's where the damn sappy "I don't want you to be like me" moment should have been. Also why didn't he tell them about the other school that he got in to?
The only thing that I liked about last night's show were the references to Taylor and her japanese threesome. It is just too funny to because that is exactly how my high school was... You never expect the uptight ASB goody too-shoos to be the one hooking up all over the place on prom night.

I just figured they had alarm codes and Seth had his own (?). Although considering the building didn't seem to have a decent sprinkler system, I'm not that it was a great assumption on my part ;)
As for RISD, he told Ryan during the episode that, even though Summer knew now, he wasn't ready to tell his parents because he was waiting for a RISD acceptance letter in hand first.

1. Why does Ryan keep making the most insanely stupid decisions??? When is he going to realize that he's been given a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chance already and he can't keep screwing things up?
2. Did anybody else notice how Caitlyn and her roommate call each other "bitch"...just like Marissa and Summer did in the first season (right???). I'm worried that next season, when the rest of the "gang" goes off to college, that Caitlyn's crew is going to become the focus of the show. Boring!

1. Why does Ryan keep making the most insanely stupid decisions??? When is he going to realize that he's been given a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chance already and he can't keep screwing things up?

Nah - the show can't afford to switch horses in midstream like that.
Caitlyn's kind of interesting, but for me, she's not 'The OC'.
Honestly, the major draw for me with this show is Seth. Without the comedy, I'd have been long gone. heck, I've missed quite a few eppies this year... it's just not the same anymore.
I think they had Ryan do stupid things because eventually he'll have to pay the piper in some way. I hope it doesn't screw up college for him...

Actually, I read an article in TV Guide that the producer IS planning on putting mroe focus on the younger crowd next season. And, there isn't any guarantee that the 4 leads will be back...
If so, it's news to Josh Schwartz, who told my colleague, Ileane Rudolph, that he's planning a major "reinvention" of the show next season. For starters, Kaitlin (Willa Holland) will move back to town full-time, sparking a "repopulation of the high-school universe," Schwartz says. "You will see a whole new generation through Kaitlin's eyes." The "older" set, meanwhile, will segue into a "twentysomething world beyond just the bait shop. There's a whole young-adult world in Newport for our kids to get in trouble in." Schwartz won't guarantee that the core four — Seth, Summer, Ryan and Marissa — will all be back, but he did share this most welcome scoopbit: Autumn Reeser (Taylor) will be made a series regular. "You can anticipate a more fully evolved, romantically evolved version of Taylor in Season 4." Best. News. Ever.

ITA! Seth really is one of the best parts of this show. I'm glad that Taylor's thawed out a bit...she could be an enjoyable character to watch develop as well.

Same here. Seth is the draw for me, too. :)
I wouldn't be sad to see Marissa gone, forever. She is so irritating.

See below (in white) for a spoiler regarding who might be the series regular who who could be killed off in the finale (the spolier shown after last week's episode alluded to the fact that one of them might not return)

Mischa looking to move out of The O.C.?
Published by Brock Strongo May 2nd, 2006
Read More: Mischa Barton, The OC, TELEVISION
CAUTION — Potential spoiler alert for the twelve of you out there who still consider yourself O.C. fans:
According to a well-placed Gawp source, Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) may not have very long to live. It seems that producers have long been struggling with Mischa’s apathy towards the show, and acting in general (it was earlier reported that her character’s recent substance-binge was an attempt to reverse-engineer Mischa into method-acting). Since Mischa doesn’t want to be around, and the ratings are struggling, rumor has it Marissa will meet a tragic demise, either as part of a season-ending cliffhanger, or possibly even BEFORE the season is completed. Whatever the case, our source says there is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE that Mischa will be a part of the show by this time next year.
So….let’s start taking bets on how Marissa will meet her maker. Will the producers draw inspiration from Mischa’s own personal Poseidon Adventure to give Coop a watery Newpy Newps grave? Place your bets in the comments now.

GoCougs, Luckily there's always a very detailed recap on the Fox boards.
Sandy finds Kirsten in the bedroom as Seth finds Ryan in the pool room. Seth admits to Ryan that he started the fire, but it was an accident. Sandy laments that he thinks Seth is hiding something, but after their fight earlier, now isn’t the time to doubt his honesty. Seth wants to get his iPod from the car so he can listen to some mopey music, and Ryan remembers he left it parked outside of Volchok’s target. Ryan heads out to get the car and that’s when Volchok rushes up to him. He ditched the car and ran. He tells Ryan he needs to get out of town, but he needs some money. And if he goes down, Ryan goes with him. Who knew a few punches could get a guy so deep?
Summer, Marissa and Taylor decorate the bleachers for the graduation ceremony. Julie finds her daughter and hands her a graduation gift from Jimmy. A letter. Dawn arrives at the Cohen home for the graduation. Ryan happily hugs his mom. And Caitlin arrives home, her new home, also for the ceremony. Julie suspects Caitlin has more in mind that a simply sisterly gesture.
Seth finds his father upstairs and confesses that he burned down the Newport Group with a wayward roach. Although disappointed, Sandy understands. He’s good that way. At Harbor, Marissa tells Summer what the letter was about. Jimmy is working on boats sailing to the Greek Islands and has invited her to join him for a year. She’ll be doing hard work, peeling potatoes and pitting olives and such, but she thinks it’ll be a good break from the hullabaloo of Newport. Thing is, she has to fly out tomorrow night to catch up with the boat in Hawaii. Summer makes her promise that she’ll sail to Rhode Island one day.
Volchok hides in a van, waiting for a friend to bring him some clothes from the loft. The girl wonders why Volchok hasn’t just left yet, then realizes he wants to see Marissa one last time.
It’s graduation time. Before the ceremony, Marissa pulls Ryan aside and tells him about her plan. He thinks it sounds great. Just great. As long he can drive her to the airport and be the last person to say goodbye. The ceremony finally arrives and the Class of ’06 is handed their diplomas.
That night, the Cohens, Robertses, Coopers and Atwoods gather for a celebratory dinner at The Yacht Club. After the meal, Marissa pulls Julie aside and mentions Jimmy’s letter to her. But Julie already knew, as Jimmy called her last week for he thoughts on sailing before sending the letter. And Julie thinks that if this is something Marissa wants to do, she’s happy to let her go. Julie then gives Marissa her graduation gift, a pearl necklace.
Out in the parking lot, Dawn is giving Ryan his own graduation gift. An old Toyota Land Cruiser. She’s been saving up for a little while and her boyfriend Ron knows a guy who restores cars. Ryan is astounded by the gesture. Then Marissa gets a call from Volchok. He tells her that if he can’t see her one last time, he’s going to make life rough for Ryan. If she doesn’t believe, ask Ryan about the car they stole. So she does. Ryan says he needs money to help Volchok get out of town, so Marissa gives him the necklace, figuring they’re in this together.
The next morning, Ryan picks up Marissa for one last drop off with Volchok. After a pit stop at the pawn shop, of course. Marissa asks if she can come along, and Ryan resists. But he relents after saying she has to stay in the car the whole time. Elsewhere, Sandy drops by the DA’s office. And at home, Kirsten hands Seth an envelope from RISD.
Ryan exits the pawn shop and finds Volchok waiting for him. The money exchange is civilized, if chilly. Then Volchok sees Marissa behind the wheel of Ryan’s car. He slams on the window and begs to talk to her, but she simply drives off. Volchok screams in a rage.
Later, at home, Julie comes in as Marissa is packing to leave. On the verge of tears, Julie apologizes to her daughter for sleeping with one of her ex-boyfriends, and framing another for attempted homicide. Despite the colorful and non-traditional offenses, Marissa forgives her mother.
That night, the gang of four gets ready to say goodbye to Marissa. But before they do, Marissa has one last place for the group to visit. Sandy catches up with Kirsten and tells her that he talked to the DA, and since The Newport Group won’t presses charges against Seth, the whole thing is over.
In two cars, the group pulls up to the model home that Ryan and Luke accidentally burned down three years ago. The one that was completely renovated and Marissa passed out in a few months ago. And she still wants to go back inside. The kids hop the fence and go for a swim in the pool. After some cannonballs and some laughs and some tears, Ryan and Marissa head for the airport. Volchok and his friend, sitting in his van, watch them go. Volchok takes a swig from his flask and hits the gas.
Seth takes Summer into his bedroom and shows her his mail. Although his application arrived too late for the fall semester, RISD has accepted him for the spring. He starts in January. He apologizes to Summer for screwing everything up with Brown.
As Ryan drives, Volchok rams his car from behind. He then pulls alongside and tries to run Ryan off the road. And he succeeds. Ryan barrels through a curve and over an embankment. The car rolls end over end down the hill, finally crashing on another road below. Coming back to his senses, Ryan crawls out of the car. Noticing gas pouring from the tank and a small fire, he grabs an unconscious Marissa and carries her free of the wreckage in a mirror from the time he found her in Tijuana. The car explodes and Ryan lays Marissa down on the pavement and rouses her. He tells her he’s going to get help, but she begs him to stay. And then she dies.
