I LOVED the first three seasons of this show, but I'm 50 minutes into the premiere and I'm having a hard time paying attention...I just don't know. I'll be back more at the end.

Summer a tree-hugger??? Sponge bath??? Huh???

I thought Seth got into RISDI? Was he not accepted, or did he just not go? Are he and Summer broken up? (I can't seem to remember much from the end of last season.) She said "I love you" in the voicemail she left him at the end, but was that just a friendly thing?

I really didn't think Marissa was going to be dead. I thought it was going to be a tease to keep people hooked for this season.

"I have to do this." ?????

Oh boy, I don't know if I can do this. What used to be my favorite show is no more. It's definitely not worth missing Grey's for. I usually don't give up on shows, but I might with this one.

Yeah, he got in, but because he applied so late, he was admitted to the spring semester instead of the fall.

I don't know. I didn't much like it. I'll give it another week or two, but . . . well, I'm just not loving it.

It wasn't anything special or great in my opinion.
Here, CTV has put it on at 7:00 so as to not interfere with their great tv night lineup. 7:00- OC, 8:00- Grey's Anatomy, 9:00 - CSI. So I'm not skipping anything else to watch it at least.

Fox's website says something about a "two night event! Tomorrow and Thursday 9/8C" but my TV guide says Rich List is on. Anyone know anything about this?

Does anyone's TV guide actually have the OC listed tonight? Mine doesn't, so I wonder what's going on? Of course the site's been updated to say "Tonight and Thursday" so who knows?

BsstGrl
11-08-2006, 10:55 AM
I thought I saw it listed for tonight. I think it's a possible pre-cursor to moving the show to Wednesdays since FOX knows it can't survive against Grey's/CSI's huge numbers. I actually already watched tonight's episode online, it was free from the website if you want to catch it there first so as not to miss anything (and commercial free at that).

nicole

I just checked my listings and it's been updated, it's definitely on tonight. I think I might watch the episode online because I have too much stuff to do tonight! I like that it's commercial free! Was the episode any good? I wasn't overly impressed witht the premiere - it seems like too much changed too fast. I didn't like the finale last season either - who in the world would just sit there (Ryan) and not try to get help!?

I thought it was a little better than the 1st episode since it got a little more into things, but still not quite the same. I'm hoping it gets better though since I've heard reviews that it's supposed to be getting back to the OC we know and love from prior years.

So FOX thinks they're going to do better against Biggest Loser, LOST, or One Tree Hill? Granted, LOST is going on hiatus after this week. That might be a good temporary move, but they have tough competition either way you slice it.

I would think so! :) I know Lost gets good ratings, but Biggest Loser and especially One Tree Hill? My guess is there are more viewers for The OC than for One Tree Hill. Grey's and CSI have HUGE ratings.

BTW, I'm so excited. We can't get DVR because Charter sucks (they don't have enough boxes and we're on a waiting list), so I miss Prison Break every Monday when I'm at meetings. I followed that link to watch The OC, and I can watch Prison Break there too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought wed night's epsode was just okay. It will be interesting to see how they wrap things up. I'm sorta over Ryan's angry at the world schtick. Things have turned out very well for him and this chip on the shoulder attitude is starting to gripe me. Summer and seth have sorta devolved into characters of their former selves. Writers, get it together! we just need a nice little soap here with some cute guys and cool clothes in fab location. That can't be so hard????.

I got closure with the whole Marissa thing last night ;)

Summer is pulling this whole hippie chick act off just so-so for me. I liked her "Cali" personality much better.

Taylor annoys me. Her mom is an ass.

I guess I'll watch it if it's on Thursday nights (b/c nothing conflicts), but not if it's moving to Wednesdays. If I keep watching, I'd like to see Ryan's mom this season or Teresa. I wonder if his brother Trey is going to show up some day. Or Jimmy. Or Hailey. Where did all those cats go?

I agree, Soutjerner. Not feeling it so much these days. I think teh only reson I watch it is to see the fashions the parents wear (because they are my peer group), as crazy as that sounds!

But I think the episode on12-14 did do a good job of putting Marissa to rest.

It will be interesting to see the proposal episode, especially as those two actors were a couple IRL for quite some time and now have apparently broken up.

Personally, I'm really enjoying this season! I feel like its funny again, and has a good balance of humor and drama. Surprisingly, I really like Taylor & Ryan. It lightens him up, and his interaction with her makes him funnier.

Admittedly, I'm not excited about the idea of pregnancies and proposals, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. :)

It's just not the same for me without Marissa. I feel like I could like it again - but at this point, I don't want to.

I'm angry at the writers for destroying the Marissa character so thoroughly (no wonder Mischa was unhappy) and I really am having trouble getting into Taylor and Ryan. I think they're cute - but that's it. They just don't have the searing chemistry that Marissa and Ryan had.

Honestly, I didn't watch from day one - I started in season 2 and bought season 1 and watched then... got hooked - but it was truly M & R that hooked me, then Seth and Summer...

I did watch last week and the alternate universe thing was funny, but I felt like they were trying to cram Ryan and Taylor down my throat and make me forget about Marissa and Ryan.

When they played their 'song' at the end of that eppy, I got choked up. Ryan and Taylor don't even come close and 'cute and fun' isn't interesting to me right now.

It's too bad. I loved this show. But how could anyone ever trust the writers again? They had a good thing and they destroyed it with Marissa and those horrid storylines. What's keeping them from going there again?

Stupid writers. They ruined what could have been. Maybe they've learned from that and are keeping things light - but I no longer trust them.

Like you didn't see this one coming down the 405?

After killing off their most famous character, turning Summer into a hippie, and forcing Ryan to fight just about everybody who looked at him the wrong way, the folks behind "The OC" have finally thrown in the beach towel.

"This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close," said Josh Schwartz, the show's creator and executive producer. According to FOX, on February 22 the struggling series will ride off into the California sunset one last time.

"The OC" was an overnight sensation when it first debuted in 2003. But darker plotlines led to a departure from what the show did best -- lighthearted comedy mixed with teen angst -- culminating in the death of Mischa Barton's character last season, and now the death of the series.

I'm kind of sad about this, but kind of not. I was really enjoying the show this season after feeling pretty indifferent towards it last year. At the same time, I just feel like it's time to do really well is over, and it might as well just go out on a high note. Hopefully the last few episodes will be really good and provide the closure they say it will.

I've been meaning to post in here for the longest time:

I really like this season. It just got so heavy and boring and Marissa centered (argh, can't STAND that girl) and now it's much more fun and engaging. I'm laughing out loud at so much stuff and really enjoying the characters again.

Did any of you moms notice that Seth was carrying Pancakes in a ring sling? :D

Also, I heard from someone else that CW might be looking in to picking up the series. Anyone else heard those rumblings?

phoenics
01-11-2007, 05:32 PM
Having a network isn't really the problem is it? Isn't the producer simply tired of the show?

The show won't make it on CW imo... not many shows make it there. And if I were the cast and crew, I'd rather just let it end. With a new producer who might grab new writers, the show would just get worse than it already is - and frankly, imo, it's not that good right now. It jumped the shark a long time ago.

phoenics
01-11-2007, 05:36 PM
Me too! It makes me realize that my problem with The OC before, was Marissa. I just didn't like the character.

I don't think the problem was Marissa - it was the way the writers handled that character. She was never allowed to grow - because they used her as a plot prop over and over again until the character was just used up and worn out.

I can understand why MB wanted out. The writers destroyed Marissa.

I haven't been able to get into the show. I miss the Summer/Marissa and Ryan/Seth chemistry - that's off now, clearly. I love Summer, Ryan and Seth, but it irritated me how Ryan acted like his poop didn't stink - he always had a mouth full of judgement for Marissa - it came off as misogynistic - but again, that's on the writers.

I'm glad the show will go out on a sort of high though.

The preview for next week is playing up the love or money, but I think this last episode actually showed a different question: Will Julie choose for her family or for herself? Last night's show was great! I wonder though, why all these people who have lived in California for most if not all of their lives don't know what you're supposed to do in an earthquake. I'm really looking forward to the next episode, but I really don't want it to come, KWIM?

stevesbabygirl
02-09-2007, 05:07 PM
Given the circumstances, I don't think anyone did anything out of the ordinary in regards to the earthquake. It looked like Julie and Kaitlyn were out on a balcony, so they moved inside to a more solid structure. It looked like Taylor and Ryan were going with the controversial theory that you shouldn't be hiding under objects because those objects will crush you, so instead, they hid next to something.

The last part freaked me out though. As a native Californian, I hate earthquakes, and even though that one seemed a little extravagant, it wouldn't be too far off if it was an 8 or a 9 on the Richter scale.

I loved it when Ryan told Taylor he loved her. I got all warm and fuzzy inside.

Am I the only one who can't stand Taylor? I miss Marissa. Sure she was annyoing and whiny, but Taylor is kinda psycho and not funny even though she's trying to be. One thing about their chemistry that I do like is that Taylor is bringing out the softer side of Ryan. With Marissa, he was still more of a bad ass, kwim?

If Kirsten loses the baby (?), I hope they do a good job with the storyline. Seems like a lot to be cramming into 2 one-hour episodes. I wonder if the finale is only an hour?

I guess I like that Taylor's crazy. I think most of the people in Newport are, but at least Taylor puts it out there in all it's groundhog costumed self. :)

I thought you were supposed to get under a doorway or something in an earthquake? Luckily I've never had to deal with anything that large. The most I've ever felt were aftershocks of small earthquakes. It was quite hilarious when it freaked out my cat though!

Seems like a lot to be cramming into 2 one-hour episodes. I wonder if the finale is only an hour?

ITA with this. I thought maybe the finale would be longer, but this is what it says on Fox's schedule:

THE SUN SETS ON “THE O.C.” IN THE EMOTIONAL ALL-NEW SERIES FINALE
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, ON FOX

Kevin Sorbo Guest-Stars

Newport Beach has not been the same since the arrival of outsider Ryan Atwood from the other side of the tracks. In the series finale, bid the fondest of farewells and find out what happens to the Cohens, the Coopers and Ryan and Taylor in “The End’s Not Near, It’s Here” episode of THE O.C. Thursday, Feb. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (OC-416)

Guest Cast: Kevin Sorbo as Frank Atwood; Gary Grubbs as Bullitt; Brandon Quinn as Spencer; Todd Sherry as Todd; Jim Pirri as Patrick.

If anyone's interested, here's what it says for next week

HE COHENS ARE IN AFTERSHOCK
ON “THE O.C.”
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 15, ON FOX

Kevin Sorbo Guest-Stars

Last Episode Before THE O.C.’s Emotional Series Finale Feb. 22

After the earthquake shakes up Orange County, the gang struggles to make sure everyone is O.K. Although Sandy has told him to stay where he is, Seth will do whatever it takes to be with Ryan and Taylor. And when they finally are reunited, Seth learns what it is really like to be a brother. When Summer and Taylor can’t find Pancakes, Taylor finds out that family bonds are greater than she thinks. Meanwhile, the Coopers are stuck in the ice cream shop until they are saved by the only man in Newport for Julie Cooper. However, like so much in Newport, things aren’t what they seem when the family returns to the Cohen house in “The Night Moves” episode of THE O.C.

Guest Cast: Kevin Sorbo as Frank Atwood, Gary Grubbs as Bullit, Viji Nathan as Psychic, Max Greenfield as Young Sandy, Ellen Hollman as Young Kirsten, Graham Miller as Young Jimmy and Cathy Lind Hayes as Teacher

So it looks like the Bullit is in the last 2 episodes and we're going to have some more flashback scenes

That was the best part of last night's show, which was, for the most part, not very good. . .

I wondered about that line... was it alluding to dragging out the show for another year? Any idea what the whole zombie thing was about?

Don't forget to watch or tape the show tonight- Series Finale! I am ready for this show to end. It really has not been that good this season.

Well can't say I LOVED the ending but I thought eveyone ended up as they should. I totally cried when Summer and Seth got married. Also did Ryan end up with Taylor? I couldn't really tell?

I think Ryan and Taylor did end up together, just judging from the look they shared at Seth and Summer's wedding. All in all, I was kinda disappointed with the last episode. But at least it was happy. :)

I'm just catching up after being gone last week. I tivoed the epi. I actually kinda liked it but in a LOT of ways it reminded me of the finale of Six Feet Under.

The best line was when Bullet said that trying to get Julie to commit was "like trying to nail jello to a wall."

Loved summer's wedding look and felt a little sad as the actors in real life are n longer a couple. I wonder if that part was hard for them to tape?

Did you notice that when Summer was telling Taylor about how she and Seth had spent the past few months, she talked about watching The Valley and said how sad she was that fake-so&so and fake-so&so had broken up in real life? I thought it was pretty funny that they had that little reference to their own break-up. (She also talked about watching Briefcase or No Briefcase, too. I'm going to miss the pop-culture references!)

I didn't know the actors were dating IRL. Interesting that I learn this now! :)
